1. Comparative Analysis of Hand-Crafted and Machine-Driven Histopathological Features for Prostate Cancer Classification and Segmentation

Abstract

Histopathological image analysis is a reliable method for prostate cancer identification. In this paper, we present a comparative analysis of two approaches for segmenting glandular structures in prostate images to automate Gleason grading. The first approach utilizes a hand-crafted learning technique, combining Gray Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM) and Local Binary Pattern (LBP) texture descriptors to highlight spatial dependencies and minimize information loss at the pixel level. For machine driven feature extraction, we employ a U-Net convolutional neural network to perform semantic segmentation of prostate gland stroma tissue. Support vector machine-based learning of hand-crafted features achieves impressive classification accuracies of 99.0% and 95.1% for GLCM and LBP, respectively, while the U-Net-based machine-driven features attain 94% accuracy. Furthermore, a comparative analysis demonstrates superior segmentation quality for histopathological grades 1, 2, 3, and 4 using the U-Net approach, as assessed by Jaccard and Dice metrics. Abstract

Study Design: Cross-sectional Objective: This study evaluated the various reasons and causes for odontophobia among Saudi parents accompanying pediatric patients at King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on a total number of 300 parents (Male=150; Female=150) who participated in the study with age ranges from 30- to 55-year-old to know the various reasons and causes for odontophobia among Saudi parents accompanying pediatric patients attending dental clinic in college of dentistry, King Khalid University, Abha. The Questionnaire was given to Saudi parents accompanying pediatric patients attending dental clinics and data was collected from them. The data were entered and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 20). A P-value of less than 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: The majority of participants, 189(63%) were, said that they have experience of dental fear and anxiety in their lifetime period. 255(85%) agreed that they have come across one of their relatives or friends having the fear of dental treatment. Parents experienced various reasons for the cause of their dental fear, one of the major factors for dental fear they told was having the dentist remove their tooth (26%). Parents 155 (52%) stated that they visited dental clinic for treatment very often and 66(22%) visited rarely. Conclusions: Recognizing the level of fear that prevents patients from seeking dental care and understanding the occurrence of dental anxiety hold crucial importance in dental practice. While only a small percentage of subjects reported dental fear or would consider refusing dental consultations, assessing dental fear provides valuable insights for dental practitioners. However, there is a call for further research and efforts to enhance the comprehension of dental anxiety and behaviors during dental visits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

10. EEFFECTS OF VIDEO-ASSISTED TEACHING PROGRAM ON KNOWLEDGE OF UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION MANAGEMENT AND PREVENTION AMONG PARENTS OF THE CHILDREN UNDER FIVE YEARS OLD, FARASAN, KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA

Abstract

Among children, Acute Upper Respiratory Infections constitutes a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. It accounts for 4 million of the 15 million child deaths in the world, annually. Globally, 30-60% of paediatric outpatient attendance and 20-30% of hospital admissions are due to Acute upper respiratory tract infections. Mothers are the main caregivers for their children, so their behaviours may be used as a disease prevention technique. The aim of the study is to identify the parent’s knowledge and practice of upper respiratory tract infection of children with under five age groups. Pre experimental design was used and 104 parents were selected by using of purposive sampling technique. The knowledge and practice were assessed by using structured interview schedule and checklist. The results of the study shows that in knowledge the total mean score for pre-test was 2.33±0.886, whereas in post-test it was 8.89±0.81 with the mean difference of 6.56. It shows that parents had excellent knowledge on Upper respiratory tract infections after implementation of educational programme, it shows that teaching was more effective. The overall mean score for practice on Upper respiratory tract infections shows that, in pre-test the mean score was 6.85±1.413, whereas in post-test it was 20.49±1.115, with the mean difference of 13.64. It predicts that parents were improved their practice after implementation of education programme on Upper respiratory tract infections preventive measures. The calculated ‘t’ value for awareness and practice scores were 7.24 & 2.914 at 0.05 level respectively. Hence it shows that significant improvement of parents knowledge and practice of Upper respiratory tract infections after implementation of educational programme. Infection prevention is critical in children under the age of five, as is thorough handwashing while caring for children who have respiratory infections. The researchers proposed that special instructional and educational programs for mothers be conducted to inform them about the preventive measures that should be taken to avoid upper respiratory tract disease.
