Oral cavity plays an important role in many physiologic processes including digestion, respi- ration and speech.[1] The mouth is a mirror to the body and acts as an early warning system as it is more or less affected by many systemic diseases. Oral involvement may precede or follow the appearance of disease at other sites in body such as skin. [2,1] Oral disease is broadly classified into soft or hard tissue, benign, premalignant or malignant. The soft tissue lesions may be present as white or red lesions. [3] White lesions are more commonly encountered than red lesions on clinical examination of soft tissue lesions. Among the white lesions, leukoplakia is more common.[4] They could be benign, premalignant or malignant. They are broadly classified into two types: scrapable (nonkeratotic) which can be scraped off with tongue blade and nonscrapable (keratotic) which cannot be scraped off with tongue blade which are slightly raised not exceeding 2-3mm in thickness.
