History of scholarship and learning. The humanities ,AZ20-999 ,Social Sciences - Abstract
The research topic related to transport infrastructure and the impact of increasing land prices has attracted the attention and research interest of many scholars, practitioners, and policymakers. This is an essential basis to provide the necessary information in allocating and regulating the land value-added accordingly. The study surveyed three suburban districts of Hanoi’s capital, with 524 survey samples. The case study focuses on a road project that is constructed and passes through three of Hanoi’s suburban areas. We collected these samples using the convenience sampling method. The authors chose to conduct a survey among households with land and real estate within a 1 km radius. The purpose of these survey samples is to gauge how the development of transportation infrastructure affects the cost of urban land. Additionally, the study put out seven hypotheses, and the findings indicated that, in line with the authors’ expectations, five of the seven hypotheses were supported. Specifically, land use change and accessibility are the two variables that had the strongest impact on land price changes in the study area, while travel time and development opportunities do not show any influence on land prices. The study’s findings further support the idea that the development of transportation infrastructure in urban periphery has altered the character of land use. The study also provides some policy implications in land price management to regulate and mobilize financial resources from land generated by infrastructure development.

History of scholarship and learning. The humanities ,AZ20-999 ,Social Sciences - Abstract
Sharing-based accommodations services are experiencing rapid global growth, driven by their inherent advantages. Nevertheless, alongside the benefits, these services are also accompanied by costs and potential risks. Intriguingly, the factors impeding or restricting consumer adoption of sharing-based accommodations have not been comprehensively investigated thus far. This study utilized innovation resistance theory (IRT) to investigate the influence of various barriers on the intention to use sharing-based lodgings services. Additionally, this study extended IRT by examining the impact of personal characteristics (innovativeness and compatibility) on consumers’ perceived resistance and intention to use sharing-based accommodations services. A quota sample included 493 individuals who were aware of sharing-based accommodations services and had traveled within the past 6 months. Path analysis utilizing structural equation modeling was used to test the research hypotheses. The study’s findings demonstrated that several barriers have a detrimental impact on individuals’ intentions to engage in sharing-based accommodation, except for image barriers and usage barriers. In addition, consumers’ innovativeness and compatibility characteristics negatively impact barriers and positively impact intention to use sharing-based accommodations. Based on these findings, sharing-based accommodations providers, individuals or businesses providing accommodations, and localities providing tourism services can design more effective strategies to attract users.

The objective of this study was to investigate the mental disturbances among COVID-19 survivors while also examining their quality of life. A retrospective cohort study was conducted among COVID-19 survivors in northern Vietnam. Anxiety, depression, insomnia, cognitive impairment, and quality of life were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Mini-Cog, and Short Form-8 (SF-8), respectively. Information regarding COVID and post-COVID conditions was retrospectively collected through direct interviews. Ordinal logistic regression was employed to identify factors associated with the severity of depression and anxiety; binary logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with the presence of sleep disturbance and cognitive impairment, and linear regression was utilized to identify factors associated with the mental and physical components of the SF-8. A total of 1596 participants were included in this study, with the prevalence of depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, and cognitive impairment being 8.7%, 16.9%, 23.4%, and 5.6%, respectively. Experiencing discrimination during COVID-19 infection and post-COVID syndrome were both linked to long-term outcomes of depression, anxiety, and insomnia and were also related to a decline in the quality of life. Our study provided initial insights into the mental outcomes and quality of life among COVID-19 survivors over an extended period, with stigmatization and post-COVID syndrome identified as the primary associated factors. A longitudinal study with random sampling, a control group, and measures to better control recall bias is recommended.

History of scholarship and learning. The humanities ,AZ20-999 ,Social Sciences - Abstract
Air service failures and negative customer reactions have been the subjects of increasing media attention in recent years. Drawing upon the expectation disconfirmation theory (EDT), this study investigates the impact of airline service failures on various negative emotions and negative behaviors of customers based on prior expectations and actual experiences after a service failure. The collected data was from 561 customers who experienced an air service failure within the past 6 months. The results show that, consistent with the EDT theory, prior expectations and actual experiences when an airline service failure occurs lead to disconfirmation, and this determines the negative emotions of customers. The results also show that, worry and frustration only lead to negative word-of-mouth intentions. Meanwhile, anger over an airline service failure will affect both complaints, negative word-of-mouth, and intention to switch to another airline. This study contributes by expanding and showcasing the applicability of the EDT theory to the domain of airline service failures.

This study was conducted to clarify the antimicrobial susceptibility and antibiotic resistance genes of Escherichia coli O8 and O9 isolated from 244 cattle feces collected from December 2021 to March 2022 in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. E. coli was isolated from the feces following the method of TCVN 7686:2007 (ISO16654:2001), and serotypes O8 and O9 were identified by the PCR method. E. coli O8 and O9 were identified at a relatively high rate, with 15.98% and 8.20%, respectively. The disc diffusion method was applied to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility of those E. coli strains against thirteen antibiotics following the guidelines of the Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute. Those E. coli O8 and O9 strains showed high susceptibility to amikacin (98.31%), doxycycline (96.61%), ofloxacin (94.92%), and levofloxacin (93.22%). However, those isolates exhibited resistance against ampicillin (47.46%), streptomycin (44.07%), and tetracycline (42.37%). Of those 59 E. coli strains, 35 strains (59.32%) were multiple resistant against two to twelve antibiotics with 25 resistant patterns. The pattern of Am+Ac+Co+Sm+Te+Cl was the most common type (6.78%). The prevalence of six antibiotic-resistance genes was determined by using PCR. Gene tetA was the most prevalent gene (66.10%), while cat1 was the least one (5.08%). Forty-five E. coli O8 and O9 strains (76.27%) harbored from two to four antibiotic resistance genes, and the pattern of strA+tetA+sulII was detected at the highest rate (23.73%). Therefore, the prevalence and antibiotic resistance of E. coli O8 and O9 should be controlled to protect cattle and human health.

Abstract Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a significant causal agent of acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND), with huge production losses of white leg shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei, cultivated globally, including aquaculture farms in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. Controlling this disease is critical because of the worldwide expansion of antimicrobial‐resistant V. parahaemolyticus isolates. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of multi‐antibiotic resistance (MAR) in V. parahaemolyticus isolated from AHPND white leg shrimp extensively cultivated in Bac Lieu Province (Mekong Delta). Based on biochemical tests and toxR‐PCR positive detections, 34 V. parahaemolyticus isolates were identified. Antibiotic susceptibility examination revealed that most of the isolates were phenotypically multidrug resistant, including resistance to ceftazidime (100%) and amoxicillin (97.06%), followed by colistin (74%) and erythromycin (65%). These isolates were highly sensitive to doxycycline (94%), followed by florfenicol (74%) and flumequine (71%). There were 27 distinct MAR phenotypes detected among 34 isolates, with 14.71% of the isolates exhibiting the antibiotic profile AMO‐CEF‐CEP‐COL‐ERY, followed by 11.76% for each of the profiles AMO‐CEP‐TET‐COL and AMO–CEP–COL. In particular, 25 isolates (75%) were resistant to at least 5 (of the 12) antibiotics tested. A hierarchical clustering analysis of antibiotic‐resistant V. parahaemolyticus isolates indicated cross‐transmission across farms and its ability to survive in aquatic environments for extended periods (over 3 months). Our findings support the hypothesis that the variety of MARPs in V. parahaemolyticus is the result of human activities. Environmentally friendly therapy strategies should be used for the prophylaxis and treatment of V. parahaemolyticus infection.

In the present research, fountain solution without isopropyl alcohol (IPA) for Ultraviolet offset curing ink (UV ink) was prepared by using Ethylene Glycol Mono-butyl Ether (EGME) as a substitute for IPA. The effect of EGME concentration on the water pick-up characteristics, tack value, rheological behaviors, and curing time of UV offset inks was investigated. Water pick-up characteristics, tack value and rheological behaviors were measured by Duke Ink water emulsification tester, Tack-o-scope and cone-plate rheometer, respectively. The curing time of the UV ink was evaluated by the rub test of printed sheet samples proofed on the polymer film at the standard solid ink density and the same ink thickness. The results revealed that an increase in EGME concentration increased the water pick-up characteristics of the UV ink. There was no significant influence of EGME on the tack value of UV inks. However, the tack value of UV ink was significantly affected by fountain concentration in UV inks and UV ink color. The addition of EGME reduced the dynamic viscosity and thixotropic property of UV inks but did not change the flow behavior of UV ink as shear thinning. This study indicates that UV ink emulsified with a higher EGME concentration fountain solution needs a longer curing time. The cyan UV ink has the longest curing time. Finally, the fountain solution of 10% EGME exhibited good performance in water pick-up characteristics, tack value, rheological behaviors, and curing time of UV inks.

Introduction: Industrial feed in fish farming merely covers nutritional demands and does not stimulate improved immunity in fish. Additionally, antibiotic misuse is hazardous to both the environment and human health. Therefore, for quality and safety, the most secure approach is to employ the huge supply of Vietnamese medicinal plants in fish farm food supplements. Materials and methods: EtOH extract of the leaves of A. occidentale TD1, V. negundo TD2, V. rotundifolia TD3, A. aureum L TD4, J. subtriplinerve Blume TD5 collected in Vinh Long province, Vietnam based on in vitro antibacterial assessment by agar plate diffusion method and MIC, in vivo evaluation of virulence test by artificial infection with Kosakonia sacchari bacteria on the experimental fish model Anabas testudineus and investigate the activity of plant extracts when mixed into the feed. Result: Antibacterial test by agar plate diffusion method showed that TD1 extract gave the best antibacterial result along with a concentration of 12.5 µg/ml. In the experiment to evaluate the virulence of the isolated K. sacchari strain, the result was that the strain was lethal to 87.6% of fish after 24 hours of injection at 105 CFU/ml, and the minimum lethality threshold LD50 was recorded in strains of 3.16 × 104 CFU/ml. The results were obtained in the experiment to evaluate the activity of plant extracts when mixed into feed. Feed containing TD1 protected fish from the artificial lethal agent K. sacchari (survival rate reaches 93%) and also helped to increase the weight gain of fish up to 22.8g. Conclusion: EtOH leaf extract of A. occidentale TD1 exhibits the strongest antibacterial activity and can protect perch A. testudineus against multi-antibiotic-resistant strains of K. sacchari. There is an initial assessment of the potential of Vietnamese medicinal plants to gradually replace antibiotics, aiming for safety in farming, food production, and consumption. Following that, the idea might be carried out on a bigger scale as pilot models or fish farms to become a new source of commercial animal fodder.

Agricultural production is one of the main sources of anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, contributing 50% and 60% of CH4 and N2O emissions, respectively. This study evaluated the rice yield and components, the CH4 and N2O emissions and the global warming potential between the triple rice (R-R-R) and sesame-rice rotation (S-R-R) systems in Can Tho city, Vietnam. The experiments were conducted in 3 cropping seasons: Spring-Summer 2016, Summer-Autumn 2016, and Winter-Spring 2016-2017. The results showed that there was no significant difference in yield components and grain yield between triple rice and rotation systems. The application of sesame rotation in rice-based could reduce the CH4 and N2O emission by 30.5% and 18.7%, respectively. Global warming potential in the S-R-R rotation was 9860 kg CO2e/ha, significantly lower than the R-R-R rotation (12410 kg CO2e/ha) by 20.6%. These results show that the S-R-R rotation has the potential to mitigate GHG emissions, especially CH4, which contributes to a large amount of emissions in rice cultivation.

Introduction: The Vietnamese climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) is a farmed species with significant economic value that is extensively disseminated in numerous countries, including Vietnam. Antibiotic and antibacterial drugs have been abused in climbing perch aquaculture. These antibiotic-resistant bacteria and/or genes can result in negative effects on public health and the environment. Materials and methods: The study collected samples of perch with suspicious signs of infection and isolated bacteria from the collected fish samples. Isolated bacteria were examined for morphological and biochemical characteristics and evaluated for their antibiotic resistance by antibiotic-immersed paper discs, sequencing methods, and phylogenetic tree analysis methods using Mega 11 software, model Kimura-2-parameter bootstrap 1,000 times, was used to identify molecules by the 16S rRNA gene. Results: In this study, 14 bacterial colonies were identified in Vietnamese climbing perch collected from several fish farms in Ho Chi Minh City that had aberrant symptoms on the exterior and within their organs. These bacteria were then put through a series of biochemical experiments to determine their colony morphologies. Following that, gene sequencing was performed, and 4 bacterial strains were found with a high degree of similarity to the 16S rRNA, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa (99.7%), Aeromonas dhakensis (99.93%), Kosakonia sacchari (100%), and Edwardsiella ictaluri (99.44%). Conclusions: 04 strains of sequenced bacteria with multi-antibiotic resistance status were detected in A. testudineus perch circulating in a fish farm in Ho Chi Minh City.

In this paper, we propose three interference cancellation based multi-hop decode-and-forward (DF) relaying protocols to enhance end-to-end system throughput under constraint of half-duplex and hardware imperfection. In the first proposed protocol, the successive interference cancellation technique is used at each hop to send N signals from a source to a destination. Hence, the first proposed protocol can increase N times of the data rate, as compared with the corresponding conventional multi-hop DF relaying protocol in which only one source data is hop-by-hop relayed to the destination via M intermediate hops. In the second one, the source and relays can at the same time transmit their signals, and the interference cancellation can be performed to remove co-channel interference components. Therefore, the data rate of the second proposed protocol can increase M/2 times, as compared with the corresponding conventional protocol. The third proposed protocol is an efficient combination of the first and second proposed ones, and hence its data rate is higher N times than the second proposed one. Moreover, the imperfect co-channel interference cancellation is also considered in the second and third protocols. For performance evaluation, we derive exact closed-form expressions of the end-to-end throughput for three proposed protocols over Nakagami-m fading channel. We also perform simulations to verify the analytical formulas, and propose an simple transmit power allocation strategy to mitigate impact of the co-channel interference and imperfect co-channel interference cancellation.

We study a system of nonlinear wave equations of the Kirchhoff-Carrier type containing a variant of the Balakrishnan-Taylor damping in nonlinear terms. By the linearization method together with the Faedo-Galerkin method, we prove the local existence and uniqueness of a weak solution. On the other hand, by constructing a suitable Lyapunov functional, a sufficient condition is also established to obtain the exponential decay of weak solutions.

Non-platinum electrodes for photoelectric devices are challenging and attractive to the scientific community. A thin film of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) was prepared on substrates coated with fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) to substitute the platinum counter electrode (CE) for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Herein, we synthesized layered and honeycomb-like MoS2 thin films via the cyclic voltammetry (CV) route. Thickness and morphology of the MoS2 thin films were controlled via the concentration of precursor solution. The obtained results showed that MoS2 thin films formed at a low precursor concentration had a layered morphology while a honeycomb-like MoS2 thin film was formed at a high precursor concentration. Both types of MoS2 thin film were composed of 1T and 2H structures and exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity for the I3–/I− redox couple. DSSCs assembled using these MoS2 CEs showed a maximal power conversion efficiency of 7.33%. The short-circuit value reached 16.3 mA·cm−2, which was higher than that of a conventional Pt/FTO CE (15.3 mA·cm−2). This work reports for the first time the possibility to obtain a honeycomb-like MoS2 thin film morphology by the CV method and investigates the effect of film structure on the electrocatalytic activity and photovoltaic performance of CEs for DSSC application.

Introduction: Laparoscopic anorectoplasty (LAARP) is useful for the management of rectoprostatic urethral fistula (RPUF), due to easier rectal mobilization, avoidance of posterior sagittal muscular incision, and shorter hospital stay. However, its role in rectobulbar urethral fistula (RBUF) is still debated as there is a chance of urethral diverticulum (UD), due to incomplete dissection. Laparoscopy-assisted modified posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (LAMPSARP) utilizes advantages of LAARP combined with fistula dissection using small sagittal incision preserving puborectalis. The present study compares the results of LAMPSARP with LAARP for correction of RBUF associated with anorectal malformations (ARMs). Materials and Methods: All male ARM with RBUF presenting in a tertiary center in Central India (January 2014–January 2016) were included. Low male ARM, RPUF, rectovesical fistula, and congenital pouch colon were excluded. They were randomized into LAARP and LAMPSARP groups. Complications were assessed in terms of anal stenosis, mucosal prolapse, and UD. Kelly's scoring and Krickenbeck scoring were used to assess continence, and visible anal cosmesis scale (VACS) was used to assess wanal cosmesis. Results were statistically analyzed using a comparison of means and 2 × 2 contingency tables. Results: Fifty-six colostomized patients with RBUF (26 LAARP, 30 LAMPSARP) were included. Mean operative duration in the LAARP group and LAMPSARP group was 42 ± 10 min and 56 ± 12 min, respectively (P < 0.0001). On mean follow-up of 4.5 years, mucosal prolapse (53.9%) and UD (15.38%) were significantly higher in LAARP group, while anal stenosis was similar. All three, Kelly's score, Krickenbeck score, and VACS, were better (P < 0.05) in the LAMPSARP group. Conclusion: Laparoscopy-assisted modified posterior sagittal approach is better for RBUF and offers better surgical outcome.

This study relies on an aggregate dataset of 73 countries from 2013 to 2018 to investigate the nexus between fintech credit, credit information sharing on bank stability. We document several significant findings. First, our evidence implies that fintech credit tends to improve bank stability. This suggests that as fintech credit grows, it certainly competes with banks, but it also strengthens banks’ stability. Second, credit information sharing increases bank stability. Thirdly, it is found that the impact of fintech credit on bank stability may depend on credit information sharing. Specifically, the presence of credit information sharing institutions may facilitate the positive effect of fintech credit on bank stability. This result remains unchanged to the introduction of alternative regression, as well as an alternative dependent variable. Finally, policy implications are discussed based on the findings of the research.

Exosomes represent an important mode of intercellular communication and play key roles in many physiological and pathological processes. Exosomes have hitherto exhibited their capacity to modulate biological activities through their carrying of functional molecules such as proteins, lipids, and genetic materials. In the current study, we investigated exosomes released by mature dendritic cells (mDCs) and umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UCMSCs) under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) conditions. Ultracentrifugation was used to isolate and purify the exosomes. Additionally, a transmission electron microscope (TEM) and immunoblotting were used to characterise exosomal morphology and markers. The preliminary results showed that both mDCs and UCMSCs secreted exosomes into GMP culture media. Exosomes exhibited a cup-shaped morphology and showed positive for CD63. Additionally, no difference was observed between mDC-derived exosomes and UCMSC-derived exosomes regarding marker expression or morphology. This data indicates the potential for further development of GMP exosomes for clinical application.

Mangrove ecosystems play important ecological roles, including the mitigation of global climate change and biodiversity conservation. However, they have received little attention from scientists for the research and conservation of bats and general biodiversity. In Vietnam, bat species inhabiting mangroves have been relatively unstudied, while this ecosystem is located along the country’s coastal zones and has declined dramatically due to the development of agriculture, wind energy and other threats. To initially fill this gap, five bat surveys were conducted between September 2019 and November 2021 within Ha Long Bay and Ben Tre province, which contain representative mangrove areas of northern and southern regions of Vietnam, respectively. Bats were captured using mist nets, mobile nets and hand nets. Their echolocation calls were recorded and analyzed using the PCTape system and Selena software, respectively. Five species were captured and recorded: Cynopterus brachyotis, Macroglossus minimus, Myotis hasselti, Myotis pilosus and Taphozous melanopogon. They are all new to both Ha Long Bay and Ben Tre province. Four species (C. brachyotis, M. minimus, M. hasselti and M. pilosus) have been rarely documented from other ecosystems in Vietnam but have commonly been recorded and captured in mangrove areas. Of these species, M. pilosus is a globally “Vulnerable” species. While searching for prey, Myotis hasselti emitted high energy echolocation calls sweeping from about 96 to about 24 kHz with a signal duration of about 5 ms. This species sometimes uses social calls of a horseshoe-shaped structure, which last about 15 ms and are emitted about 26 ms in front of a search call. Results from our surveys indicated the importance and potential of mangroves for bat research and conservation.

This study focuses on understanding the factors that affect the intention of using financial technology among young Vietnamese in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fintech studies are abundant in developed countries and mainly focus on consumers’ conditions, awareness, habits, and capital. These are expected to differ significantly from the situation in developing countries. We have reviewed factors that can affect the user’s intention, including the Perceived Benefit (PB), Perceived Risk (PR), Belief (B), and Social Influence (SI), and rely on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) model in this research. The survey sample comprises 161 Z-generation consumers with strong flexibility and knowledge about the use of Fintech. We use the PLS-SEM (partial least squares structural equation modeling) analysis method with the SmartPLS software (SmartPLS GmbH, Oststeinbek, Germany) to evaluate the research model. We find that the Perceived Benefit (PB) has the most significant impact on the intention to use Fintech, followed by Belief (B). However, in general, the factors are not significant, perhaps due to many reasons that are intrinsic in Vietnam. Based on this result, service providers, policymakers, and researchers can calibrate the development and research for the following stages. We offer findings different from the previous research, thus especially extending the literature on young people.

- Abstract
Introduction: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a multifactorial challenge driven by a complex interplay of proximal drivers, such as the overuse and misuse of antimicrobials and the high burden of infectious diseases, and distal factors, encompassing broader societal conditions such as poverty, inadequate sanitation, and healthcare system deficiencies. However, distinguishing between proximal and distal drivers remains a conceptual challenge., Objectives: We conducted an umbrella review, aiming to systematically map current evidence about proximal and distal drivers of AMR and to investigate their relationships., Methods: Forty-seven reviews were analysed, and unique causal links were retained to construct a causality network of AMR. To distinguish between proximal and distal drivers, we calculated a 'driver distalness index (Di)', defined as an average relative position of a driver in its causal pathways to AMR., Results: The primary emphasis of the literature remained on proximal drivers, with fragmented existing evidence about distal drivers. The network analysis showed that proximal drivers of AMR are associated with risks of resistance transmission (Di = 0.49, SD = 0.14) and antibiotic use (Di = 0.58, SD = 0.2), which are worsened by intermediate drivers linked with challenges of antibiotic discovery (Di = 0.62, SD = 0.07), infection prevention (Di = 0.67, SD = 0.14) and surveillance (Di = 0.69, SD = 0.16). Distal drivers, such as living conditions, access to sanitation infrastructure, population growth and urbanisation, and gaps in policy implementation were development and governance challenges, acting as deep leverage points in the system in addressing AMR., Conclusions: Comprehensive AMR strategies aiming to address multiple chronic AMR challenges must take advantage of opportunities for upstream interventions that specifically address distal drivers., (Copyright © 2023 The Authors. - Abstract
Background: Hyperactive coagulation might cause dangerous complications such as portal vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism after mesenchymal stem/stromal cell (MSC) therapy. Tissue factor (TF), an initiator of the extrinsic coagulation pathway, has been suggested as a predictor of this process., Methods: The expression of TF and other pro- and anticoagulant genes was analyzed in xeno- and serum-free manufactured MSCs. Furthermore, culture factors affecting its expression in MSCs were investigated. Finally, coagulation tests of fibrinogen, D-dimer, aPPTs, PTs, and TTs were measured in patient serum after umbilical cord (UC)-MSC infusions to challenge a potential connection between TF expression and MSC-induced coagulant activity. RESULTS: Xeno- and serum-free cultured adipose tissue and UC-derived MSCs expressed the highest level of TF, followed by those from dental pulp, and the lowest expression was observed in MSCs of bone marrow origin. Environmental factors such as cell density, hypoxia, and inflammation impact TF expression, so in vitro analysis might fail to reflect their in vivo behaviors. MSCs also expressed heterogeneous levels of the coagulant factor COL1A1 and surface phosphatidylserine and anticoagulant factors TFPI and PTGIR. MSCs of diverse origins induced fibrin clots in healthy plasma that were partially suppressed by an anti-TF inhibitory monoclonal antibody. Furthermore, human umbilical vein endothelial cells exhibited coagulant activity in vitro despite their negative expression of TF and COL1A1. Patients receiving intravenous UC-MSC infusion exhibited a transient increase in D-dimer serum concentration, while this remained stable in the group with intrathecal infusion. There was no correlation between TF expression and D-dimer or other coagulation indicators., Conclusions: The study suggests that TF cannot be used as a solid biomarker to predict MSC-induced hypercoagulation. Local administration, prophylactic intervention with anticoagulation drugs, and monitoring of coagulation indicators are useful to prevent thrombogenic events in patients receiving MSCs. - Abstract
Background: Subdural hematoma following spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery is a rare complication. Surgical removal of the hematoma is the standard treatment. However, there are still many patients who suffer permanent nerve damage of varying degrees after surgery. Cell therapy has recently shown great potential for treating nerve damage., Case Presentation: This report described a case of paraplegia due to an epidural hematoma occurring after spinal anesthesia for cesarean section. The patient underwent surgery to remove the hematoma and rehabilitation afterward. However, no improvement was noted. Paralysis of the lower extremities associated with urinary retention and constipation persisted. The patient received three administrations of cell infusion: the first time with autologous bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells and the following two with autologous adipose mesenchymal/stromal cells. After three cell infusions, the patient was able to walk and could urinate and defecate voluntarily. Sensory and motor function were improved and MRI showed a decrease in adherence of the nerve roots and spinal cord., Conclusions: Our results demonstrated that cell therapy may ameliorate paralysis of the lower extremities as well as fecal and urinary function following spinal hematoma associated with spinal anesthesia., Competing Interests: The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (© 2024 The Authors. - Abstract
The sorption of antibiotics on soil minerals and their cotransport have been widely studied for the past few years; however, these processes in concentrated salt solutions (estuary-like conditions) are not fully understood. This study aims to determine the possible sorption of oxytetracycline (OTC) on various natural and synthesized microsized minerals (including haematite, goethite, kaolinite, bentonite, lateritic, kaolinitic and illitic soil clays) under conditions mimicking pure, fresh, brackish and sea waters. The sorption of OTC was found to decrease in surface charge (herein zeta potential), hence altering the colloidal properties of the materials used. The sorption capacities of soil clays for OTC follow the inequality illitic soil clay > kaolinitic soil clay > lateritic soil clay, and the sorption capacities were found to decrease at higher salt concentrations. Seawater can intensify the release of the sorbed OTC from soil clay surfaces while favouring the coaggregation of the remaining OTC with soil clays. This implies that the long-range transport of OTC or other similar antibiotics can be governed by the mineralogical composition/properties of the suspended particles. More importantly, increasing salt concentrations in estuaries may form a chemical barrier at which limited amounts of OTC/antibiotics can pass through, while the remaining OTC/antibiotics can be favoured to aggregate simultaneously with suspended mineral particles., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The author declares that he has no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier B.V. - Abstract
Traditional pork value chains dominate the production and distribution of pork in Vietnam; however, the high level of microbiological contamination in pork may increase the risk of food-borne disease for consumers. There is limited evidence about how to feasibly and scalably reduce microbial contamination in pork sold in traditional markets. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of light-touch interventions for changing worker behaviour in small-scale slaughterhouses and vendors at traditional pork shops, as well as to identify risk factors for pork contamination. The intervention packages consisted of providing hygiene tools and delivering a food safety training which had been designed in a participatory way and covered 10 small-scale slaughterhouses and 29 pork shops. Pig carcasses, retailed pork, contact surfaces, and hands were sampled to measure the total bacterial count (TBC) and Salmonella contamination before, three and six weeks after the intervention, and trainee practices were observed at the same time. Linear and generalized linear mixed effects models were constructed to identify risk factors for TBC and Salmonella contamination at the slaughterhouses and pork shops. The interventions at slaughterhouses and pork shops both showed a slight reduction of TBC contamination in pig carcasses and Salmonella prevalence in retailed pork, while the TBC in retailed pork decreased only marginally. For slaughterhouses, the regression model indicated that smoking or eating during slaughtering (indicating poor hygienic practices) was associated with TBC increasing, while cleaning floors and wearing boots reduced TBC contamination. For pork shops, using rough materials (cardboard or wood) to display pork was the only factor increasing TBC contamination in pork, whereas cleaning knives was associated with lower TBC. Besides, the presence of supporters and wearing aprons reduced the probability of Salmonella contamination in pork. The findings highlight the effectiveness of light-touch interventions in reducing microbial contamination in pig carcasses at small-scale slaughterhouses and pork at traditional shops over the study period., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2023 The Authors. - Abstract
Aim: To present outcomes of single trocar thoracoscopic surgery in the treatment of pleural empyema (PE) in children. Patients and Methods: The thoracoscopic surgery was performed using a single trocar inserted through the fifth intercostal space. A conventional rigid scope with a working channel was used. Pleural fluid was aspirated, followed by debridement and ablation of all septa using one instrument through the working channel. Results: Sixty patients from 1 month to 14 years of age underwent surgery without any intraoperative complications or death. The mean operative time was 67 ± 21 minutes. There was no conversion to open thoracotomy. Postoperative complications occurred in 4 patients. Reoperation was required in 1 patient. Mean duration of postoperative hospitalization was 15 ± 9 days. Follow-up was obtained in 57 patients and resulted in normal clinical and chest X-ray findings in all patients. Conclusion: Single trocar thoracoscopic operation is safe, feasible, and effective in the treatment of PE in children. A future study with control group is required to draw accurate conclusions.

- Abstract
The increasing daily use of cosmetic and personal care ingredients (CPCIs) requires improved understanding of the fate and impacts of CPCIs in environmental systems. Effects of CPCIs on colloidal properties of various geocolloids such as iron oxides (goethite, haematite), clay minerals (kaolinite, bentonite) and soil clays (kaolinitic-, illitic- and lateritic soil clays) were studied by tracking time-resolved changes in zeta potential (ζ) and observing suspended particle density. Two polymers representing anionic CPCIs, i.e., polyacrylate crosspolymer-11 (PC11) and cationic CPCIs, i.e., polyDADMAC (PD) show contrast effects on ζ and colloidal properties of the selected materials. While PC11 tended to associate with Fe oxides, PD can be adsorbed by clay minerals and soil clays. The neutralization due to the sorption of either PC11 or PD onto opposite-charge sign surface sites can lower the net surface charge of the materials, thereby enhancing electrostatic attraction, stimulating particle size growth, and eventually intensifying co-aggregation. The observed colloidal properties of iron oxides, clay minerals and soil clays under the presence of PC11 and PD may reflect what are happening in many aquatic environments where CPCIs co-exist with various mineral colloids. Therein, CPCIs likely delay the transport of the opposite-charge sign colloids, while they increase the dispersibility and transportability of the same-charge sign colloids. This implies that intensifying presence of a given CPCI could have selective effects on colloid systems. As a whole, CPCIs can change the fate and the final destination of mineral colloids and themselves; therefore, their effects and relevant treatment techniques need to be included into the future agenda., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The author declares that he has no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier B.V.
