Objective: There is no evidence about the effects of personal traits on physical health, mental health and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in healthcare workers in Vietnam, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to measure associations between the personality of healthcare workers (HCWs) in Vietnam and their physical health, mental health and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Methods: A multi-centre cross-sectional study was conducted on 245 HCWs in Hanoi, Vietnam, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI) was used to measure HCWs’ personality. Physical Health Questionnaire-14 (PHQ-14), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder – 7 (GAD7) and EuroQOL-5 Dimensions-5 Levels (EQ-5D-5 L) instruments were used to measure physical health, mental health and HRQOL. Multivariate Tobit regression models were used. Results: The mean EPI Extraversion and Neuroticism scores were 8.75/24 (SD=5.66) and 8.69/24 (SD=6.30). The Extraversion score was negatively associated with PHQ14 respiratory infection (Coef.= - 0.13, 95 %CI=-0.24; -0.02) and GAD7 score (Coef. = -0.22, 95 %CI= - 0.40; -0.04). The Neuroticism score was positively correlated with PHQ14 gastrointestinal issue score, PHQ14 headache score, PHQ14 respiratory infection score, PHQ14 sleep disruption score, PQH14 total score, PHQ9 score, GAD7 score and fear of COVID-19 score, while negatively correlated with EQ-5D index (Coef. = -0.006, 95 %CI= -0.010; -0.002). Conclusion: This study indicated that personality had potential roles in impacting the physical and mental well-being of HCWs in Vietnam during the COVID-19 pandemic. Interventions to implement mindfulness practices, enhance overall well-being, and foster group dynamics among HCWs should be warranted..

BackgroundThis study aimed to measure the preferences for mental health support among health professionals, their willingness to support the mental health of colleagues and associated factors.MethodA descriptive cross-sectional study was performed from August to October 2022 within five hospitals located in Hanoi, Vietnam. A total of 244 health professionals participated in the study. Data on socio-economic status, health and COVID-19-related characteristics, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21); and preferences for mental health support services were collected by using a structured self-reported questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression models were utilized to identify associated factors with the demand for mental support services.Results13.9%, 17.1% and 8.6% reported having at least mild depression, anxiety and stress, respectively. There 13.9% did not seek any mental health support during the COVID-19 pandemic. The most common support included talking with friends (52.9%), family (50.8%), colleagues (47.6%) and using social networks/Internet (43.5%). There 31.1% had been aware of mental health services, but only 18.0% used this service at least once. Regarding preferences, 47.3% had a demand for mental support services, and the most preferred service was providing coping skills (25.9%), followed by skills to support others against mental problems (22.2%). Major sources of support included psychiatrists (34.4%), colleagues (29.1%) and family (27.9%). The main preferred channels for support included telephone/mobile phone (35.7%) and Internet (20.9%). Only 12.3% were willing to provide mental support for colleagues during the pandemic. Age, education, perceived mental health status, ever seeking any mental service, and DASS-21 depression score were associated with demand for mental support services.ConclusionThis study found a lack of awareness of mental health services for health professionals, as well as moderate levels of demand for this service in this population. Raising awareness and developing tailored mental health support services are important to enhancing the mental well-being of health professionals in Vietnam to prepare for the next pandemic.

ABSTRACT: Objective: This study described the rate of suicidal ideation in lung cancer patients and identify associated factors. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted from August 2021 to October 2022 at the Nuclear Medicine and Oncology Center – Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi, Vietnam. A total of 256 patients completed the survey. The Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) was used to measure suicidal ideation. The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was utilized to evaluate depression and anxiety. Socio-demographic characteristics, clinical features and pain severity were also measured. Multivariate logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with suicidal ideation. Results: There was 8.2% having suicidal ideation. Among patients with suicidal ideation, the mean score of intensity subscale was 13.33 ± 4.98, and mean scores on intensity scale items were as follows: frequency (mean=2.86 ± 1.32). duration (mean=2.29 ± 1.15), controllability (mean=2.67 ± 1.28), deterrents (mean=2.48 ± 1.21), and reason for ideation (mean=3,05 ± 1,63). Being female (OR=3.36, 95%CI=1.35-8.37), having severxe pain (OR=5.91, 95%CI=1.65-21.18), having depression (OR=10.36, 95%CI=3.93-27.39) and having anxiety (OR=7.81, 95%CI=3.05-20.01) were positively associated with the likelihood of having suicidal ideation among lung cancer patients. Conclusion: Findings revealed the high prevalence of suicidal ideation among individuals diagnosed with lung cancer in Vietnam. Notably, this trend was more pronounced among female patients, those with severe pain, and individuals experiencing mental disorders such as depression and anxiety. Practitioners ought to prioritize the screening and intervention processes for lung cancer patients with a high risk of suicidal tendencies.

Talaromyces sp. DC2 is an endophytic fungus that was isolated from the stem of Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don in Hanoi, Vietnam and is capable of producing vinca alkaloids. This study utilizes the PacBio Sequel technology to completely sequence the whole genome of Talaromyces sp. DC2The genome study revealed that DC2 contains a total of 34.58 Mb spanned by 156 contigs, with a GC content of 46.5%. The identification and prediction of functional protein-coding genes, tRNA, and rRNA were comprehensively predicted and highly annotated using various BLAST databases, including non-redundant (Nr) protein sequence, Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), Clusters of Orthologous Groups (COG), and Carbohydrate-Active Enzymes (CAZy) databases. The genome of DC2 has a total of 149, 227, 65, 153, 53, and 6 genes responsible for cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, pectin, chitin, starch, and inulin degradation, respectively. The Antibiotics and Secondary Metabolites Analysis Shell (AntiSMASH) analyses revealed that strain DC2 possesses 20 biosynthetic gene clusters responsible for producing secondary metabolites. The strain DC2 has also been found to harbor the DDC gene encoding aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase enzyme. Conclusively, this study has provided a comprehensive understanding of the processes involved in secondary metabolites and the ability of the Talaromyces sp. DC2 strain to degrade plant cell walls.

Acinic cell carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignant tumor of the salivary glands that accounts for 6%-10% of all salivary gland malignancies. It has a propensity to considerably recur, metastasize to the lung or cervical lymph nodes. In addition, ACC can potentially be fatal. The parotid gland is where ACC most frequently begins. The purpose of this paper was to describe an unusual case of parotid gland ACC in a 58-year-old Vietnamese adult female. Before surgery, a fine-needle aspiration biopsy revealed the existence of tumor cells with acinar differentiation. Following that, she underwent successful surgery without complications. The existence of ACC was verified by the postoperative final histologic results.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a slowly progressing malignant tumor of the salivary glands that mostly affects minor salivary glands. ACC of parotid gland is exceptionally rare. In this article, we aimed to provide a case report of parotid gland ACC in a 55-year-old female that was misdiagnosed as benign mixed tumor. The patient was successfully treated by surgery without any complications. We recommend that ACC of parotid gland should be considered in differential diagnosis of benign mixed tumor since there still existed overlapped imaging characteristics.

The set of equivalence classes of cobounded actions of a group G$G$ on different hyperbolic metric spaces carries a natural partial order. Following Abbott–Balasubramanya–Osin, the group G$G$ is H$\mathcal {H}$‐accessible if the resulting poset has a largest element. In this paper, we prove that every nongeometric 3‐manifold has a finite cover with H$\mathcal {H}$‐inaccessible fundamental group and give conditions under which the fundamental group of the original manifold is H$\mathcal {H}$‐inaccessible. We also prove that every Croke–Kleiner admissible group (a class of graphs of groups that generalizes fundamental groups of three‐dimensional graph manifolds) has a finite index subgroup that is H$\mathcal {H}$‐inaccessible. Objective. To evaluate brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA); and find out the relationship between baPWV and risk factors, disease-related factors, some echocardiographic indicators. Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 47 patients with RA who were admitted to the Hue University Hospital Department of Cardiology. A control group that included 34 patients without RA who agreed to participate in the investigation was enrolled. Results. The average baPWV of the RA group was 1736.6±436.8 cm/s and was higher than that of the control group (1275.8±224.2 cm/s), p<0.001. There were moderate correlations between baPWV and the SCORE index (r=0.583, p<0.001). With the same risk factors such as age, gender, obesity, hypertension, and smoking, the baPWV of the RA group was higher than the control group. There were moderate correlations between baPWV and velocity A (r=0.562, p<0.001), E/e’ ratio (r=0.394, p=0.006), E/A ratio (r= -0.449, p=0.002), septal e’(r = -0.488, p<0.001), lateral e’(r= -0.397, p= 0.006). Emotional intelligence (EI), intrinsic learning motivation (IM), and willingness to communicate (WTC) are among the factors that influence students' success in foreign language learning (FLL). However, the research concerning the association between these three factors is limited, especially those dealing with the EI subcomponents. In addition, there has been no report on the link between EI, IM, and WTC of the students learning Japanese and Korean as foreign languages. Therefore, this study investigated the relationships of EI of FLL university students with IM and with WTC. At the same time, it explored the potential of EI subcomponents to serve as predictors for IM and WTC. Using descriptive statistics, Pearson product-moment correlation, and stepwise regression, this study analyzed questionnaire responses from 78 FLL undergraduates. The results indicated that the students' EI positively correlated with their IM and WTC, and one of four EI subcomponents predicted IM and WTC. Meanwhile, the one-way ANOVA test indicated that no significant difference existed within groups of students learning English, Japanese, and Korean as foreign languages.
