The production of backyard chickens is an activity of great importance in the economy of rural families in Paraguay. The Rustipollos population was created through directed crosses between a commercial meat line and a local population belonging to non-specific breeds but phenotypically assimilated to Creole breeds. The aim of this study was to evaluate the genetic diversity, relationship, and structure of Rustipollos using 29 microsatellite markers. Analysis was performed on 50 Rustipollos animals and 926 other individuals as reference breeds/populations from Europe, Africa, South, and North America. A total of 318 alleles were detected, with a mean of 10.97 per locus. The polymorphic information content indicated that 80% of all loci were highly to moderately informative. Only two breeds/populations showed loci that did not deviate from the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium. The results of genetic diversity indexes suggested moderate levels of genetic variability in Rustipollos population and low inbreeding level. The genetic differentiation index indicates a high genetic differentiation between populations. The results of the Neighbor-Net tree and STRUCTURE analyses indicate the existence of distinct gene pools, with some genetic relationships between Rustipollos, the commercial chicken strain, and south Spanish breeds. The Discriminant Analysis of Principal Components confirmed the observed genetic distances between breeds/populations. The results will be useful for sustainable use and official recognition of this population.

Se presenta un estudio de caso N=1 de adulto de 38 años de edad con alto grado de malestar ante ciertas actividades laborales. A partir de los resultados se diseña un plan de intervención hecho a medida con evidencia científica dirigido a tolerar y disminuir el malestar que presenta sintomatología ansiógena. Para la elaboración de dicha propuesta, se realiza una evaluación y diagnóstico mediante el Cuestionario de Ideas Irracionales (Ellis, 1980), la Escala de actitudes y creencias (Lega, Caballo y Ellis, 1997), el Inventario de pensamiento automático (Ruiz y Luján, 1991), auto-registro de pensamientos, la Escala de Estrés Percibido (PSS) (Cohen, Kamarck y Mermelstein, 1983), la Escala de Autoeficacia General (Baessler y Schwarcer, 1996), el Cuestionario Autoevaluativo STAI Estado-Rasgo (Spielberger, 1973) y el Inventario de Síntomas de Derogatis-Revisado. El SCL-90-R (Derogatis, Lipman y Covi, 1973). Se propone un tratamiento que incluye el entrenamiento en habilidades de tolerancia al malestar, aceptación radical, ansiedad y entrenamiento en relajación.

IntroductionCardiac architecture has been extensively investigated ex vivo using a broad spectrum of imaging techniques. Nevertheless, the heart is a dynamic system and the structural mechanisms governing the cardiac cycle can only be unveiled when investigating it as such.MethodsThis work presents the customization of an isolated, perfused heart system compatible with synchrotron-based X-ray phase contrast imaging (X-PCI).ResultsThanks to the capabilities of the developed setup, it was possible to visualize a beating isolated, perfused rat heart for the very first time in 4D at an unprecedented 2.75 μm pixel size (10.6 μm spatial resolution), and 1 ms temporal resolution.DiscussionThe customized setup allows high-spatial resolution studies of heart architecture along the cardiac cycle and has thus the potential to serve as a tool for the characterization of the structural dynamics of the heart, including the effects of drugs and other substances able to modify the cardiac cycle.

Los lipomas son neoplasias benignas conformadas por adipocitos bien diferenciados, delimitados por un delicado estroma fibroso reticular. Éstos constituyen el tumor cutáneo más frecuente en aves, siendo masas blandas que generalmente aparecen en el tejido subcutáneo. Se describe el caso de un loro amazónico (Amazona aestiva) en cautiverio, que fue llevado a consulta debido a una masa ulcerada en la región de la cadera. El diagnóstico citológico refirió que se trataba de un lipoma, y ante la ineficacia del tratamiento local, se procedió con la extirpación quirúrgica de la masa. El tratamiento posquirúrgico consistió en limpiezas con clorhexidina al 0,5 % por 15 días (d), e ibuprofeno por vía oral, por 3 d. La masa fue remitida para su estudio histopatológico, refiriendo como diagnóstico morfológico un fibrolipoma. Los puntos de sutura fueron retirados a los 18 d, observándose una cicatrización completa.

This article analyzes the organizational context for the provision of nursing care in a public hospital in Corrientes. descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study was carried out. The population consisted of 53 nurses. The instrument used was the Nursing Works Index Nursing Practice Environment Scale, which consists of 31 items, grouped into 5 dimensions. Among the characteristics and profile of the participants, there was a massive presence of women (77.4%), 43.4% had a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. In the analysis of the environments, although a higher score was observed in the male gender than in the female gender, when comparing the three that make up the questionnaire, no significant differences were found in any of them. The same behavior was found in the behavior of these factors in relation to the level of education. When analyzing the correlation between the factors of the practice environment with the age of the participants only a statistically significant negative correlation was found with the "Fundamentals of quality of care". Conclusions: An assessment was successfully developed using the PES-NWI tool. Improving awareness of this issue in the workplace is one of the main strategies of the organization in the development of its professionals.
