Supply chain risk management is considered a topic of increasing interest worldwide and its focus has evolved over time. The recent coronavirus pandemic (known as COVID-19) has forced business to handle a new global crisis and rapidly adapt to unexpected challenges. In an attempt to help companies counteract the pandemic risk, as well as to fuel the scientific discussion about this topic, this paper proposes a systematic literature review on risk management and disruptions in the supply chain focusing on quantitative models and paying a particular attention to highlighting the potentials of the studies reviewed for being applied to counteract pandemic emergencies. An appropriate query was made on Scopus and returned, after a manual screening, a useful set of 99 papers that proposed models for supply chain risk management. The relevant aspects of pandemics risk management have been first identified and mapped; then, the studies reviewed have been analysed with the aim of evaluating their suitability of being applied to sanitary crises. In carrying out this review of the literature, the study moves from previous, more general, reviews about risk management and updates them, starting from the lines of research that have been covered in recent years and evaluating their consistency with future research directions emerging also as a consequence of the pandemic crisis. Gaps and limitations of the existing models are identified and future research directions for pandemics risk management are suggested.

The Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) is often used to improve a system's reliability. This paper proposes a new approach that aims to overcome the most critical defects of the traditional FMEA. This new methodology combines the Entropy and Bwm methodology with the EDas and System Dynamics, FMECA: The EN-B-ED Dynamic FMECA. The main innovation’s point of the proposed work is the presence of an unknown factor (Cost) in order to take into consideration the economic aspect; the evaluation of the four-factor through both an objective method (Entropy method) and a subjective method (BWM); the ranking method used (EDAS method), much more accurate than RPN; the development of a dynamic criticality analysis to take in consideration the dynamic aspect of the system. This work aims to give manufacturing companies an easy and replicable method to analyze the possible failure modes and prevent the fault.

Maintenance of equipment is a crucial issue in almost all industrial sectors as it impacts the quality, safety, and productivity of any manufacturing system. Additionally, frequent production rescheduling due to unplanned and unintended interruptions can be very time consuming, especially in the case of centrally controlled systems. Therefore, the ability to estimate the likelihood that a monitored machine will successfully complete a predefined workload, taking into account both historical data from the machine’s sensors and the impending workload, may be essential in supporting a new approach to scheduling activities in an Industry 4.0 production system. This study proposes a novel approach for integrating machine workload information into a well-established PHM algorithm for Industry 4.0, with the aim of improving maintenance strategies in the manufacturing process. The proposed approach utilises a logistic regression model to assess the health condition of equipment and a neural network computational model to estimate its failure probability according to the scheduled workloads. Results from a prototypal case study showed that this approach leads to an improvement in the prediction of the likelihood of completing a scheduled job, resulting in improved autonomy of CPSs in accepting or declining scheduled jobs based on their forecasted health state, and a reduction in maintenance costs while maximising the utilisation of production resources. In conclusion, this study is beneficial for the present research community as it extends the traditional condition-based maintenance diagnostic approach by introducing prognostic capabilities at the plant shop floor, fully leveraging the key enabling technologies of Industry 4.0.
