The increase in borderless digital-based business competition shows how language education is impacted by neoliberalism in this global era. We explore how linguistic technopreneurship (LT) roles is increasingly constructed as a form of linguistic entrepreneurship to exploit language-related resources to enhance one's socioeconomic value strategically. This research aims to critically examine the influence of LT toward business success digitalization for Small Medium Enterprises in West Java and it's implication for Language Education. The research also focusing on the creation of novelty, namely linguistic technopreneurship (LT), which is a refinement of entrepreneurial linguistics (EL). LT is expected to be able to explain how linguistic entrepreneurship can be indexed from two different aspects, namely how to package language education and digital business success. We then discuss under what conditions the notion of linguistic technopreneurship can be applied to digital platform-based business settings and what kind of contradictions this gives rise to. The method used is quantitative, and it involves carrying out SEM analysis. A non-probability sampling technique was used to obtain a minimum of 250 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Industry owners who run their businesses through digital platforms in West Java province, which is the province with the most significant number of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Industries in Indonesia. The research results show that LT significantly influences the success of business success and impact the language education practice. It can be concluded that language education is an added value for a person and influences socioeconomic success.

Purpose – This paper aims to explore the research field of digital transformation in small and medium enterprises (SMEs), considering the importance of SMEs in the economic development of countries. Design/methodology/approach – Considering the contributions of researchers and the challenges of SMEs to transform their business models, in this paper, the authors conducted a scientometric analysis using CiteSpace that included 448 documents indexed in Scopus. Findings – The authors appreciated the growth in the number of publications that have studied the digital transformation process in SMEs, showing a niche of researchers interested in the flourishing research topic. Likewise, the authors identified the intention of SMEs to adopt digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, data analytics, electronic commerce and the Internet of Things. Practical implications – This paper is a valuable resource for academics and researchers in information systems, decision-makers in digital transformation in SMEs and governmental organisations concerned with digital technologies adoption in SMEs to achieve digital transformation and increase competitiveness and productivity. Originality/value – This study used CiteSpace to conduct a scientometric analysis to explore how researchers have focused on frameworks and maturity models for measuring SME readiness, the impact of Industry 4.0 on SMEs, guides for helping managers evaluate their Industry 4.0 positioning, the development and implementation of digital business strategies for SMEs, the presentation of cases of SMEs that have driven digital transformation and future research opportunities.

Background and Aim of Study: Digitalization is problematized as one of the ways to improve dynamic capabilities of healthcare sector small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in their strive to stay competitive in today’s digital society. Digitalisation and dynamic capability are current key issues in both academia and practice due to the recent advances in information and communication technologies. Nonetheless, there is inadequate research informing what and why digitalisation can be leveraged to enhance the dynamic capabilities (DC), in the context of SMEs in healthcare sector. The aim of the study: to explore and explain factors influencing DC of healthcare SMEs in South Africa. Material and Methods: The study employed task-technology fit theory as a lens to explain digitalisation factors influencing the DC of SMEs. To achieve the aim of the study, a deductive approach was followed. The study population was healthcare sector SMEs, in South Africa. The sampling frame was 384 randomly selected SMEs, in a self-administered survey. Results: The empirical results show that SME performance (β=0.132, p0.05) was found to be less significant. Conclusions: The study has explained and shown that appropriating technology to task during digitalisation is key to enhancing dynamic capabilities, in the context of South African healthcare sector SMEs. The cost of digital technology is a none factor. Subsequently, digitalization is a people-driven transformation journey.

Background and Aim of Study: To remain competitive in today’s digital society, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the healthcare sector need to consider effective ways to improve their dynamic capabilities (DCs) using Software as a Service (SaaS). SaaS and DCs are current key issues in both academia and practice. The aim of the study: to develop the conceptual model for the use of SaaS to improve the DCs of healthcare SMEs in South Africa. Materials and Methods: The study employed Task-Technology Fit (TTF) and Fit Viability Model (FVM) as a lens to develop a model for the use of SaaS to improve the DCs of healthcare SMEs. To achieve the aim of the study, a deductive approach was followed. The study population was healthcare SMEs, in South Africa. The sampling frame was 384 randomly selected SMEs, in a self-administered survey. Results: The study results show that customer service (β=0.125, p0.05) and infrastructure (β=0.052, p>0.05) were found to be less significant. Conclusions: The conceptual model was developed to identify and explain the factors influencing the use of SaaS to improve the DCs of healthcare enterprises. This model is based on TTF, FVM and external constructs (organisational and environmental characteristics) that are key to improving the DC of South African healthcare SMEs.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the knowledge structure of knowledge management (KM) applications within small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In pursuit of excellence, SMEs must adopt KM like large corporations, even with limited resources. Design/methodology/approach: Through a bibliometric approach, this study evaluates current themes based on bibliographic coupling analysis and predicts future trends based on coword analysis. A total of 726 documents and 2,658 keywords were derived from the Web of Science database. Findings: Findings show four clusters in bibliographic coupling and three in coword analysis. A common theme discovered converged on digital technology to ensure SMEs follow current market trends. Research limitations/implications: Advanced application of Industry 4.0 requires digital transformation for SMEs' pursuit of excellence. Implications include sustaining SMEs through a considerable KM system integrated with digital technology for sustainable business activities. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this study is among the first to provide a science mapping analysis on KM in SMEs by applying a bibliometric analysis.

MSMEs provide substantial benefits in terms of income for most communities as well as encouraging creativity in line with maintaining local traditions and culture. The purpose of this study is to identify and propose new strategies that can help stone sculpture artisans in Trowulan improve competitiveness and business sustainability. The research method is descriptive qualitative with data collection through interviews. The results show that a holistic management strategy, ranging from strength-opportunity utilization to weakness-threat mitigation, helps Trowulan stone sculpture MSMEs strengthen their position in the market and achieve sustainable growth. This can be done by marketing and cooperation with the government and among craftsmen to face market changes and external threats.

Abstract Despite having to rely on hybrid payment systems that combine manual and electronic methods, less developing countries such as Pakistan still manage to perform business transactions successfully. This success is partly due to the indigenous collectivist cultural practices in Pakistan society. However, an explanation of how indigenous culture supports information systems in general, and in particular payment systems, is scarce. This study adds to the knowledge of culture and information systems by exploring how indigenous culture in Pakistan enables hybrid payment systems to flourish. A case study was conducted in the marble industry of KPK Pakistan where qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the industry’s participants. The findings highlight the role of the indigenous collectivist cultural practice of Pakhtunwali in successfully implementing the hybrid payment system in SMEs in Pakistan. The study makes a theoretical contribution to knowledge about culture and payment systems by examining the role of collectivist cultural practices in supporting the hybrid payment system in Pakistan. The study highlights the role of collectivist cultural practices in overcoming the limitations of the hybrid payment system. The study also informs SME owners/managers about the importance of local cultural practices in Pakistan and how these can be utilized and maintained to improve the transactional practices of businesses.

Circular Supply Chain Management (CSCM) is gaining prominence among diverse stakeholders, practitioners, and scholars. However, its adoption remains limited, particularly within Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This study employs Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM), specifically tailored for SMEs, to elucidate the contextual relationships among CSCM indicators. Furthermore, it employs the Matrice d’Impacts Croisés Multiplication Appliqué à un Classement (MICMAC) analysis to categorize these indicators into driving- dependence power quadrants. Thirteen CSCM indicators are identified and classified into three sustainability dimensions: economic, environmental, and social. The ISM model comprises four levels, with employees’ exposure to hazardous materials at level one, followed by ten indicators at level two, one at level three (reuse, remanufacturing, recycling complexity), and one at level four (eco-material). MICMAC analysis reveals that none of the indicators falls into the autonomous quadrant. Employees’ exposure to hazardous materials is categorized in the dependent indicators’ quadrant, while ten indicators belong to the linkage quadrant. The independent quadrant includes two indicators: eco-material and reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling complexity. SMEs can utilize these CSCM indicators as an initial step toward circularity implementation. The recommended implementation sequence follows the ISM model hierarchy, starting with level four indicators and progressing through levels three, two, and one, acknowledging the influence of higher-level indicators on lower-level ones.

Abstract Although the move to more service‐oriented business can be beneficial even to smaller firms, servitization in SMEs remains a largely unexplored topic. The authors contribute to fill this gap exploring how SMEs can overcome the knowledge gaps of servitization faced by companies in the early‐stages of this journey. By combining systematic literature review and expert panel methodology, the authors identify three knowledge gaps that hinder servitization initiatives in SMEs and propose a set of managerial recommendations to tackle with these gaps. In particular, the authors suggest a structured plan of recommendations, and point out how each stakeholder can contribute to fill the mentioned gaps. The proposed actions are specifically suggested for SMEs and focus on greater engagement of internal and external stakeholders. In addition to contributing to the domain scientific research on servitization, the authors therefore respond to the call for application‐oriented research.

Although cloud computing offers many benefits, such as flexibility, scalability, and profitability, some small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are still unable to fully utilize cloud resources, such as memory, computing power, storage, and network bandwidth. This reduces their productivity and increases their expenses. Therefore, the central objective of this paper was to examine the key challenges related to the allocation of cloud computing resources in small and medium enterprises. The method used for this study is based upon qualitative research using 12 interviews with 12 owners, managers, and experts in cloud computing in four countries: the United States of America, the United Kingdom, India, and Pakistan. Our results, based on our empirical data, show 11 key barriers to resource allocation in cloud computing that are classified based on the technology, organization, and environment (TOE) framework. Theoretically, this research contributes to the body of knowledge concerning cloud computing technology and offers valuable understanding of the cloud computing resource allocation approaches employed by small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In practice, this research is useful to aid SMEs in implementing successful and sustainable strategies for allocating cloud computing resources.

This research aims to determine how much influence Islamic financial literacy and Islamic financial inclusion have on the sustainability of small and medium enterprises in the Bandung Raya area. In the context of Sharia finance, a common problem faced by SMEs today is that many SMEs show a lack of knowledge and ability in financial management. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) often face challenges in obtaining financial support from institutions, limited options in accessing financial services, and a lack of use of technology to increase competitiveness and encourage innovation. As a result, many SMEs face the risk of bankruptcy. Therefore, this research aims to determine the influence of Sharia financial literacy and Sharia financial inclusion on the sustainability of small and medium enterprises in Bandung Raya. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach, the sampling technique used purposive sampling by considering respondents from SMEs in Bandung Raya that had been established for more than one year and were still actively running businesses. The data analysis technique was carried out using Partial Least Square with the Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM). The test results show that Sharia financial literacy has a positive effect on business sustainability and financial inclusion has a positive effect on business sustainability in Bandung Raya. These findings add to the literature and present implications for stakeholders to initiate programs that support the sustainability of SME businesses.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of usage of finance on performance of small and medium enterprise of fish trading along Lake Victoria region Kenya. The study was anchored on positivism philosophy while credit rationing theory was used as a guide to the study. Methodology/Approach: Mixed research design was adopted in the study. Target population of 4,500 respondents with a sample size 173 of traders was selected using the Yamane formula. Questionnaire and interview schedules were used as data collection instrument. The study data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics which include mean and mode. Descriptive statistics was computed to summarize and describe the demographic characteristics of the respondents. Data was presented using tables. Findings: Simple linear regression results showed that usage of finance had a positive significant effect on performance of Small and Medium Enterprises of fish trading along Lake Victoria region (coefficient of correlation 0.698, p=0.000

This study investigates the impact and operational challenges of the Shared Service Facility (SSF) for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Philippines, focusing on enhancing MSME competitiveness and sustainability. Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and data analysis, the study assesses the SSF’s effectiveness in supporting MSMEs and identifies key challenges hindering its operation. The findings reveal significant improvements in MSMEs’ access to resources, innovation capacity, and market competitiveness following SSF assistance. However, logistical, managerial, and resource-related challenges pose significant hurdles to the SSF’s operational efficiency and effectiveness. To address these challenges, a comprehensive Strategic Plan is formulated, outlining key actions to improve logistical efficiency, enhance managerial effectiveness, strengthen financial sustainability, upgrade technological infrastructure, and foster collaboration and partnerships. Implementation of these strategic initiatives is crucial for optimizing the SSF’s operation, enhancing its impact on MSME competitiveness, and ensuring long-term sustainability. Overall, this study contributes valuable insights into the role of the SSF in fostering MSME development and economic growth in the Philippines, highlighting the importance of targeted interventions and collaborative efforts to support inclusive and sustainable development.

Purpose: The main goal of the paper is to thematically cluster, identify, and present the most significant topics in the field of digitalization within small and medium enterprises. Additionally, the paper aims to propose guidelines for future research in this area. Methodology: In the paper, a bibliometric analysis of the literature was carried out on a sample of 285 articles with a special focus on keyword analysis, co-occurrence network analysis and trend topics analysis. Results: There has been a noticeable increase in interest in this topic since 2019, accompanied by a significant rise in the number of published articles and citations. Based on the analysis, five key thematic clusters were identified, which are related to the most frequently researched topics, and they are defined as follows: Digital technologies and Industry 4.0, Digital marketing and social media, COVID-19 and Innovation, Digital transformation, and Business models. Conclusion: The topic of digitalization in small and medium enterprises is gaining significant importance within the academic environment. This paper provides comprehensive guidelines covering methodological, practical, and thematic aspects, along with proposed research questions for future studies in this field.

This study analyzes the problem factors affecting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) performance with social capital variables. The problems are related to developing MSMEs’ financial and non-financial performance and are considered inseparable from various internal and external influences. This research is a quantitative-qualitative research with primary data. The utilization of questionnaires and interviews as methods for data collection. The data analysis technique used was a statistical analysis based on partial least squares (PLS). The study’s results found that internal and external factors had a significant positive effect on the financial performance of MSMEs. The E-commerce factors and social capital significantly positively affected the financial performance of MSMEs. However, the colonial capital did not strengthen the relationship between internal variables, external, and E-commerce on the financial performance of MSMEs.

The labor market is not always able to meet the demand for workers who have competence in accounting. One of the sectors experiencing this condition is the owner of Desa tea shop in Semarang city. It certainly has an impact on the training and mentoring conducted by business owners to improve the competence of their employees. This study aims to look at the training and mentoring process carried out by the owner of the village tea shop employees in Semarang City. The research was conducted by surveying micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) or owners of Village Tea Shops. The results showed that the average time needed to train employees to perform work related to product presentation and transaction data input in the group of employees with low accounting competence (group 2) was longer than that of employees with medium and high accounting competence. In addition, the average time needed to assist employees to perform work related to product presentation and data input in the group of employees with low accounting competence is longer than that of employees with medium and high accounting competence. The results indicate that the lack of accounting competence of village tea shop employees has an impact on the owner's efforts to make employees have better work readiness. Further research can expand the population and research area so that the research results can be better generalized to provide an overview of the challenges of accounting digitalization in UMKM.

Manufacturing has experienced an immense transformation since the emergence of Industry 4.0. Digitalization has substantially improved production efficiency and product quality, and innovative business models have emerged. The backbone of emerging countries like India comprises small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that provide jobs for millions of families. Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) account for around 31% of the nation’s GDP and 43% of 2021–2022 exports, both significant contributors to economic growth when there is a substantial labour pool. Therefore, they are often known as India’s growth engine. Unfortunately, in today’s highly competitive digital market, they fail to keep pace with technological innovations and keep their employees up to date. This article discusses the significance of digitalization for India’s SMEs, addressing the hurdles and the methods to remove them. New consumer markets have been established due to government programs like Make in India, Digital India, and E-Government.

Lean implementation focuses on reducing waste and improving efficiency in business operations, a strategy widely embraced in developed countries. However, its adoption among Indonesian SMEs is limited and lacks adequate research. Understanding how lean practices can effectively enhance competitiveness and productivity in this vital sector of the Indonesian economy is crucial. Despite its widespread use in Western countries, there's a noticeable gap in research specifically examining how lean principles are applied within SMEs, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. Furthermore, there's a clear scarcity of studies detailing the current state of lean implementation in Indonesia, particularly within SMEs. This study conducted a systematic literature review (SLR), thoroughly searching peer-reviewed journals and conference papers. We identified 441 articles related to lean practices in Indonesia, with 40 focusing specifically on SMEs. Through this review, we uncovered key themes and trends in lean implementation, offering valuable insights into current practices and highlighting areas for future research. This paper represents one of the first comprehensive SLRs exploring lean practices within Indonesian SMEs. It aims to deepen our understanding of how lean methodologies impact SME operations in Indonesia and provides practical guidance for researchers and practitioners interested in lean implementation. By bridging these research gaps, we hope to contribute to the body of knowledge on lean implementation in Indonesian SMEs, suggesting strategies for effective implementation and paving the way for further study in this important area.

This research analyzes the role of teamwork in the development and innovation of small and medium enterprises in Serbia. Correlation and regression analysis showed that aspects of teamwork, such as the frequency of sharing ideas, feeling comfortable when expressing opinions, participating in brainstorming sessions and evaluation processes of new ideas, are significantly related to the development and innovation of the company. The importance of the process of evaluation and implementation of new ideas, as well as cross-functional cooperation and encouragement of risk-taking, is particularly emphasized. The results suggest that fostering an environment that supports open communication, collaboration and innovation can improve the success and competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises. The research confirms the hypothesis that efficient teamwork significantly contributes to development and innovation, and recommends entrepreneurs to adopt practices that encourage quality teamwork as a strategy for sustainable growth and market success.

This study investigated the impact of implementing Ngawi Hijau, a regional spatial planning policy adopted by the Ngawi Regency government, on green entrepreneurship behavior of micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) actors engaged in the wood processing industry subsector in Ngawi Regency, Indonesia. Using 150 MSME actors as the research sample and the ordinary least squares estimation technique, this study found that green policy, which includes policy targets, MSME group abilities, MSME resources, incentives, and security, has a positive and significant impact on green entrepreneurship in Ngawi Regency. This study proves that clear and relevant public policy objectives are a prerequisite for effective policy implementation. Clear policy targets make the target group of the policy understand the policy implications, thereby lowering the resistance to the policy. Therefore, in contrast to the top-down model, which emphasizes the role of authority institutions, this research empowerment model proves that, as one of the parties most responsible for policy, aspects related to MSME actors have a pivotal role in realizing effective policy implementation. Among the five factors under consideration, the ability and resources of MSMEs and incentives have a relatively more significant contribution than the other factors in encouraging green entrepreneurial behavior in the wood industry business in Ngawi regency. Thus, to strengthen the readiness of the wood industry MSME actors in implementing the green policy, the Ngawi Regency government needs to pay more attention to the condition of MSME resources, which include HR, financial, and technical aspects. Incentives in terms of financial and non-financial assistance can be an instrument for strengthening MSME resources.

The key aim of the study is to establish barriers to environmental management accounting (EMA) adoption by manufacturing small and medium enterprises (EMA) in Gauteng province, South Africa from an institutional theory standpoint. To attain the aim of the study 34 in-depth interviews were undertaken with manufacturing SME owners and managers on 34 SMEs. Thematic analysis was adopted to analyze interview transcripts and revealed that lack of government support, financial barriers, lack of incentives to adopt EMA, and absence of guidance to adopt EMA are acting as barriers of SMEs in South Africa from adopting EMA. As a result, the study proposes various incentives such as tax concessions and discounts on eco-materials to encourage SME EMA adoption. Also, the government should take center-stage in making available green training and amplifying awareness of environmental management within SMEs in South Africa. Overall, the study would help regulators and policymakers to align regulations and green strategies with factors that hinder EMA adoption in a ploy to overcome them.
