1. An Evaluation Study of Emotional Intelligence Structure according to the Ability and Traits Perspectives among University Students

Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate emotional intelligence (EI) models in Egyptian university students, focusing on the abilities and traits of 280 senior students at Suez Canal University. The researchers used descriptive and comparative causal approaches and used the BEIS-10 modified scale and the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue-30) to test both the general factor perspective and the sub-factors. The results of the two-factor model revealed that the items of EI loaded on one single factor, while most of the traits model items loaded on two factors. This implies that ability serves as the core for emotional thinking, emphasizing the necessity of emotional self-efficacy in learners. From the perspective of sub-factors, there was coherence among the factors assessing self-emotions, evaluating others' emotions, and utilizing emotions in the ability model. However, the emotional regulation factor lost its items' distribution across the first and second factors, indicating that an individual's evaluation of others' emotions depends heavily on emotional experience and awareness.

Abstract

هدفت الدراسةُ إلى التحققِ من الخوفِ من الجريمةِ الإلكترونية وعلاقته بمستويات القلق الاجتماعي لدى عينةٍ من شباب المجتمع العربي. وقد اختيرت عينةٌ بطريقة كرة الثلج، بلغ عددها 600 طالبٍ وطالبةٍ من طلاب الجامعات. وتم الحصول على العينة من خلال مجموعات التواصل الاجتماعي عن طريق الفيس بوك. وكانت العينة المسحوبة للدراسة من البيئة المصرية والقطرية والأردنية. واستخدمت الدراسة مقياس الخوف من الجريمة الإلكترونية، ومقياس القلق الاجتماعي، وتم تقدير مؤشرات الصدق والثبات للعينة. وقد ثبت من النتائج وجود علاقات ارتباطية موجبة متوسطة من (0.227 إلى 0.374) بين أبعاد الجريمة الإلكترونية والدرجة الكلية على المقياس مع القلق الاجتماعي كدرجة كلية، وقد أثبتت الدراسة تحيز النتائج، وبررته الدراسةُ بأنه نوعٌ من الاستحسان الاجتماعي، أو الرغبة في تحسين صورة الذات، وبخاصة للأفراد ممن تعرضوا لدرجة من الجرائم الإلكترونية الموجهة نحو الأفراد، أو الشعور بالخزي والوصم في الإبلاغ عن تعرضهم للجرائم الإلكترونية. وتوصي الدراسة بضرورة رفع الوعي السيبراني لدى الشباب لخفض سلوكيات القلق الاجتماعي، وتنمية إدراك الشباب للخطر الوارد من الترويج، أو التداول، أو الإنتاج، أو أي فعل يوقع الشباب كضحية لارتكاب جريمة إلكترونية.

3. Recognition and reprogramming of E3 ubiquitin ligase surfaces by α-helical peptides

Abstract

Abstract Molecules that induce novel interactions between proteins hold great promise for the study of biological systems and the development of therapeutics, but their discovery has been limited by the complexities of rationally designing interactions between three components, and because known binders to each protein are typically required to inform initial designs. Here, we report a general and rapid method for discovering α-helically constrained (Helicon) polypeptides that cooperatively induce the interaction between two target proteins without relying on previously known binders or an intrinsic affinity between the proteins. We show that Helicons are capable of binding every major class of E3 ubiquitin ligases, which are of great biological and therapeutic interest but remain largely intractable to targeting by small molecules. We then describe a phage-based screening method for discovering “trimerizer” Helicons, and apply it to reprogram E3s to cooperatively bind an enzyme (PPIA), a transcription factor (TEAD4), and a transcriptional coactivator (β-catenin).

Abstract

Abstract Background Tanshinone IIA (TSA), a major lipophilic component extracted from the roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge, has been widely used in China for its various biological activities. However, its effect on ovarian reserve in aged mice was not studied elsewhere. Objectives This study aimed to explore the effect of TSA on the ovarian reserve of aged mice as well as young mice. Forty weeks old mice (N = 40) were considered as aged group compared to 4 weeks old mice (N = 40), and these groups were subdivided into four subgroups (N = 10) to receive different doses of TSA (0, 10, 20, and 40 μg/g/day). Methods The effect of TSA was evaluated by counting follicular number by histological examination. Basal serum levels of FSH, LH, E2, and anti‐Mullerian hormone (AMH) were measured by ELISA. Moreover, the expression levels of antioxidant genes (CAT, Nrf2, GPX1), gap junction (Cx37), ERK1/2, and Smad5 family gene were examined at both mRNA (qPCR) and protein levels (western blot). 5. Facile Fabrication of Polyaniline/Pbs Nanocomposite for High-Performance Supercapacitor Application

Abstract

In this work, a polyaniline/lead sulfide (PANI/PbS) nanocomposite was prepared by combining the in situ oxidation polymerization method and the surface adsorption process. This nanocomposite was applied as a supercapacitor electrode. The crystal structure, nanomorphology, and optical analysis of PANI and PANI/PbS were investigated. The electrochemical performance of the designed PANI/PbS electrode-based supercapacitor was tested by using cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronopotentiometry (CP), and AC impedance techniques in HCl and Na2SO4 electrolytes. The average crystallite size of the PANI/PbS nanocomposite is about 43 nm. PANI/PbS possesses an agglomerated network related to PANI with additional spherical shapes from PbS nanoparticles. After the PANI/PbS nanocomposite formation, there are enhancements in their absorption intensities. At a current density of 0.4 A g−1, the specific capacitance of PANI/PbS in Na2SO4 and HCl was found to be 303 and 625 F g−1, respectively. In HCl (625 F g−1 and 1500 mF cm−2), the gravimetric and areal capacitances of the PANI/PbS electrode are nearly double those of the Na2SO4 electrolyte. Also, the average specific energy and specific power density values for the PANI/PbS electrode in HCl are 4.168 Wh kg−1 and 196.03 W kg−1, respectively. After 5000 cycles, the capacitance loses only 4.5% of its initial value. The results refer to the high stability and good performance of the designed PANI/PbS as a supercapacitor electrode.

10. Potentially inadequate medications in the elderly: PRISCUS 2.0—first update of the PRISCUS list

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The term potentially inadequate medication (PIM) is used to describe substances that may be unsuitable for use in the elderly and should be avoided. The PRISCUS list, published in 2010, was the first catalog of PIM designed for the German drug market to become adopted in practice. While 24% of German patients aged ≥ 65 years were prescribed at least one PIM per year in 2009, the proportion in 2019 was only 14.5%. METHODS: In a three-round Delphi process, experts from clinical practice and research evaluated whether selected substances are PIM for the elderly. The participants were provided with dedicated literature including systematic reviews carried out for the particular purposes of this project. RESULTS: Fifty-nine persons took part in the Delphi process and, in addition, contributed comments and therapeutic alternatives. Altogether, 187 substances were classed as PIM. One hundred thirty-three of the substances now listed were not in the original PRISCUS list: these include some oral antidiabetics, all of the selective COX-2 inhibitors, and moderately long acting benzodiazepines such as oxazepam. For some other substances, e.g., proton pump inhibitors (PPI), the advisability of treatment for more than 8 weeks was considered as potentially inappropriate, as was the use of ibuprofen in doses >1200 mg/day and for more than 1 week without PPI. Risperidone for more than 6 weeks is also PIM. CONCLUSION: The new, greatly extended PRISCUS list must now be validated in epidemiological and prospective studies and its practicability in routine daily use must be verified.

11. Vonoprazan-Based versus Esomeprazole-Based Triple Therapy for Helicobacter Pylori, a Randomized Trial

Abstract

Background: Vonoprazan-based regimens are anticipated to have higher Helicobacter pylori eradication rates than PPIs. Aim and objective: to compare between the effectiveness of two 14-day regimens; one based on vonoprazan and the other on esomeprazole, to eradicate H. pylori. Patients and methods: Participants were determined to have active H. pylori infection and were either untreated or had previously received therapy were randomly assigned to either the VAL group (vonoprazan 20 mg bid, amoxicillin 1000 mg bid, plus levofloxacin 500 mg once day) or the EAL group (Esomeprazole 20 mg bid., amoxicillin 1000 mg bid., and levofloxacin 500 mg once daily). After 4-6 weeks following the end of the therapy, an H. pylori antigen test was used to determine the degree of eradication. Results: A number of 122 individuals were randomly assigned to either the VAL (n = 61) or EAL (n = 61) groups, and 118 patients were successful in completing the study. The eradication rates of H. pylori were found to be 97.7 percent for the VAL group and 68.5 percent for the EAL group, respectively (P = 0.031). All adverse treatment-related occurrences were minor and did not differ substantially between the two groups, such as nausea and vertigo. Conclusions: The VAL regimen was well tolerated and led to increased eradication rates; as a result, VAL may be thought of as a powerful regimen for treating H. pylori, particularly in nations with high levels of antibiotic resistance.

27. The Shift to Personal Learning Environment has been FruitfulPredicting Performance in Future Tasks Based on Personal Learning Environment Management during the Corona Epidemic

Abstract

The study aimed to study the performance expectation in future tasks based on personal learning management during the Corona epidemic. A random sample of 871 students from the University of Hail was selected. The study samples were from humanities, engineering, and medical colleges. The study was based on a cross-sectional study design. The study prepared a measure of future expectation of performance on the tasks. The scale is 28 items. Factor analysis was used to verify the validity of the scale, and the scale achieved acceptable indicators of good fit. The scale achieved acceptable stability using Cronbach's alpha coefficient for emotional factor 0.57, cognitive factor 0.94, and behavioral factor 0.90. The results revealed that there are differences in the future expectation on performance because of gender and type of college. The results revealed that there are positive correlations between future expectation of cognitive and emotional performance, as well as a positive relationship between emotional and behavioral performance. There was also a negative relationship between behavioral and cognitive performance.

29. Selective allocation of patients with vaginal apical prolapse to either mesh augmented open abdominal repair or vaginal sacrospinous colpopexy improve functional and anatomical outcomes

Abstract

Background: To evaluate the functional and anatomical outcomes after allocation of patients with apical vaginal prolapse to either mesh augmented abdominal repair or vaginal sacrospinous-colpopexy based on proposed selection criteria.Methods: A non-randomized trial was conducted at Ain-Shams university maternity hospital on patients with apical vaginal prolapse stage ≥2 based on pelvic organ prolapse quantification system. Certain criteria were proposed for patient selection to either mesh augmented abdominal repair or vaginal sacrospinous-colpopexy. Seventy-eight patients were assigned for sacrospinous-colpopexy and 47-patients for abdominal repair. Primary outcomes were the functional outcome using urogenital distress inventory questionnaire and patient global impression of improvement (PGI-I). Both were measured at 1-year’s follow-up. Secondary outcomes involved the anatomical success (defined as no apical prolapse ≥POP-Q stage 2), perioperative data and long-term complications.Results: There was improvement in all UDI domains for sacrospinous-colpopexy and abdominal repair groups with genital prolapse domain of median (interquartile range) 0 (0-10), 0 (0-0) respectively. Eighty-nine percent of abdominal repair group and 85% of sacrospinous-colpopexy group reported scale of 1 or 2 on PGI-I scale at 1-year follow-up. PGI-I score and improvements in UDI domains were maintained till 5-year follow-up. The anatomic success rate at 1-year follow-up was 97.9% in abdominal repair group and 78.2% in the sacrospinous-colpopexy group. No long-term mesh complications were detected in mesh augmented abdominal repair over the whole follow-up periods.Conclusion: The resulting meritorious functional and anatomical outcomes favor adoption of our proposed selection criteria in the initiation of guidelines and recommendations for managing vaginal apical prolapse.

Abstract

Using empirical data, this book uniquely presents the dynamics of innovation within public sector organisations and identifies the most crucial factors that promote innovation or the determinants that enhance innovation activities. Abstract

Abstract Background Plasma cell neoplasm is characterized by complex genetic and prognostic heterogeneity. FAM72D, a gene located on chromosome 1, and the association between its expression and tumor progression and prognosis remain elusive. Methods The present study aims to assess FAM72D mRNA expression in 60 PCM patients and correlate its expression level with clinical and laboratory markers involved in diagnosing and prognosis of PCM using real-time PCR. Results Unpaired t-test revealed a significantly higher FAM72D expression level in the patients than in the control group with a median of 0.890 vs. /0.030, respectively, and p value = 0.000. The highest median level was denoted in newly diagnosed or relapsed patients (1.905, p value = 0.000). A significant positive correlation was found between FAM72D expression level and each of BMPCs count, M band, and β2 microglobulin (p = 0.000, p = 0.002, p = 0.024, respectively), and negative correlations with both serum albumin and hemoglobin level (p = 0.000, p = 0.035, respectively). The risk of relapse was 18.3-fold when the FAM72D level was greater than 1.547. Conclusion The higher FAM72D expression level in newly diagnosed and relapsed myeloma patients and its positive correlation with BMPCs confirm the stimulating effect of FAM72D on myeloma cell proliferation and its poor prognosis.

Abstract

BackgroundEating habits are important determinants of health. Young adults who have recently transitioned to university life experience stress and lack of time, which are major risk factors for poor eating habits. This study's objectives were to identify and compare eating habits between students at health and non-health colleges at Northern Border University (NBU), Saudi Arabia and to determine the relationship between students' eating habits and their sociodemographic, lifestyle, and psychological factors.MethodsThis comparative cross-section study was conducted on 480 students equally from health and non-health colleges at NBU from March to April 2023. A pre-designed electronic questionnaire was used to collect data on students' sociodemographic characteristics, eating habits, and diet-related psychological factors. Statistical analyses were carried out using STATA/SE version 11.2 for Windows.ResultsUnhealthy eating habits were reported by 44.6% and 41.3% of students at health and non-health colleges, respectively. Most students had irregular meals, skipped breakfast, ate fast food frequently, and consumed insufficient amounts of vegetables, fruits, and water. Parental separation, living away from family predisposed to unhealthy eating habits. Being 21-23 years old, playing sports, and high body mass index were linked to healthy eating habits. Psychological factors such as overeating until the stomach hurts and eating to feel happy were associated with unhealthy eating habits.ConclusionUnhealthy eating habits were prevalent among students at NBU irrespective of the type of study. Thus, implementing initiatives to promote nutrition and healthy eating habits within the university environment is crucial for health promotion and well-being among students.
