There are few biomarkers to reflect the physiological conditions for substance misuse. In this study, autonomic nervous and cardiovascular parameters were measured for participants in deferred prosecution programs. The goal of this study is to develop significant biomarkers of the above subjects and enhance their motivation to join further substance misuse disorder treatment program. This study recruited 34 participants with a mean age of 35.1 years. The participants spent approximately five minutes filling in the basic information form and another five minutes filling in the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Blood pressure, heart rate, and heart rate variability data were also measured. Their sleep quality was measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Inventory (PSQI) with an average score of 8.6 and average systolic and diastolic pressure measured of 116.1 ( standard deviation SD = 13.7 ) and 77.9 mmHg ( SD = 8.1 ) during resting, respectively. Average heartbeat rates are 90.4 beats per minute ( SD = 17.0 ); and average low-frequency power ratio is 56.4% ( SD = 19.8 %). Of the participants, 35% exhibited a low-frequency power rate below 30% and above 70%. The average biological HRV age of the participants was 46.0 years ( SD = 22.9 ), which was significantly older than their average actual age ( p = 0.002 ∗ ∗ ). The biological HRV age of the participants is 10 years older than their own actual age, and it effectively reflects the physiological conditions of participants in deferred prosecution programs. These physiological parameters, especially the biological HRV age, can be used in future treatment for substance use disorder counseling programs to increase the illness insight of program participants and increase their motivation to join further substance misuse disorder treatment program.

Soothing dolls are becoming increasingly popular in a society with a lot of physical and mental stress. Many products are also combined with soothing dolls to stimulate consumers’ desire for impulse buying. However, there is no research on the relationship between consumers’ purchasing behavior, consumers’ preference for soothing dolls, and visual preference. The purpose of this study was to examine the possible factors that affect the emotional and visual preferences of soothing dolls. Two local stores’ sales lists were used to extract three different types of dolls. The 2D and 3D versions of these three dolls were used. Subjective emotional preferences were examined by the self-assessment manikin (SAM) scale, with 5-point Likert scales for valence and arousal factors. An eye tracker was used to examine visual preferences, both before and after positive/negative emotion stimulation by the International Affective Picture System (IAPS). There were 37 subjects involved, with an age range of 20–28 years. The experimental results show that the average valence/arousal scores for 2D/3D dolls were (3.80, 3.74) and (2.65, 2.68), respectively. There was no statistical difference, but both 2D and 3D pictures had high valence scores. Eye tracker analysis revealed no gaze difference in visual preference between 2D and 3D dolls. After negative emotional picture stimulation, the observation time of the left-side doll decreased from 2.307 (std 0.905) to 1.947 (std 1.038) seconds, p < 0.001; and that of the right-side picture increased from 1.898 (std 0.907) to 2.252 (std 1.046) seconds, p < 0.001. The average observation time ratio of the eye on the 3D doll was 40.6%, higher than that on the 2D doll (34.3%, p = 0.02). Soothing dolls may be beneficial for emotion relaxation. Soothing dolls always have high valence features according to the SAM evaluation’s measurement. Moreover, this study proposes a novel research model using an eye-tracker and the SAM for the SOR framework.

Background and objectives: Quality of life and sleep quality of college students were extensively studied. The present study evaluated sleep quality and quality of life of college students in Taiwan by using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), respectively. Materials and Methods: Data of 1756 college students aged 20–24 years were collected in this study. Association rule analysis was also used to provide a graphics-based visualization of the relationships between data, enabling the rapid identification of data correlations. Results: The results showed that the average physical component scale (PCS) and average mental component scale (MCS) scores were 52.9 and 44.1, respectively. Based on their body mass index (BMI), participants were divided into underweight, normal, overweight, and obese groups. The results of one-way analysis of variance showed that the p values for the PSQI, PCS, and MCS scores were 3.5 × 10−5, 1.7 × 10−5, and 0.671, respectively. The normal and overweight groups had the lowest PSQI scores. The PCS score of the obese group was lower than that of normal and overweight groups. The p values of the t-test result among PSQI, BMI, PCS, and MCS groups were 0.002

There is an impression that there are many facial differences between different American animated characters. Japanese animated characters, on the other hand, tend to be typecast, with large eyes, sharp chins, and angular faces. In essence, the subject matter of animation is primarily based on the culture of the people who make it, and the designers of the characters also have their own sense of national belonging; therefore, is it possible that the characters in animation are designed with more reference to their own people? In this study, the facial features of characters are extracted from the data of animation with high awards, box office, and ratings in America and Japan. R-language analysis of four sets of facial features data, comparing American and Japanese animated characters, was conducted using: U.S. and Japanese live action; American animated characters with American live action; and Japanese animated characters with Japanese live action. Results revealed that 23 of the 42 observations for the American animated character sample and the American live action sample were ≤0.05. Among them, 15 reference values were ≤0.001. In the group of Japanese animated characters, compared to Japanese live action, only 12 of the 42 observations were ≤0.05. Among them, seven reference values ≤ 0.001. These data prove that the design of faces of American and Japanese animated characters are exaggerated and, based on proportions of their own faces, American animators prefer to design a diverse cast of characters, which is perhaps related to the diverse ethnic structure of the United States. It is true that Japanese animated characters mostly have a single face design, and although this face has Western characteristics, it retains more of its own Japanese characteristics. However, the ‘formulaic’ style of Japanese animated characters can easily lead to aesthetic fatigue, and without continued innovation in storytelling, the character-based Japanese animation industry may be in decline.
