No. of bitstreams: 2 Valdir_Moura2022.pdf: 6904287 bytes, checksum: 0b98cc4ea53ef29c8af3f9a1c46162d6 (MD5) license_rdf: 0 bytes, checksum: d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e (MD5) Previous issue date: 2022-08-18 The major changes that have been occurring in the diet, especially in emerging countries, create a projection of greater consumption of animal and plant foods and, consequently, the need to increase production without generating environmental impacts on forest remnants. Thus, the knowledge and understanding of the spatial-temporal dynamics of agriculture and cattle raising areas is a strategic issue since Brazilian agribusiness accounts for about 21.5% of the national GDP, requiring more specific studies on the areas occupied by agriculture and cattle raising. Concerning agriculture, the monitoring of agricultural production, carried out by the IBGE and CONAB, is based on sample surveys with rural producers, cooperatives, and agricultural financing data, which gives them high cost, time-consuming execution, subjectivity, imprecision, and lack of knowledge about the spatial distribution of agricultural production. Conversely, cattle-raising occupies approximately 220 million hectares, distributed throughout all regions of the national territory; however, around 60% present some level of degradation, generating losses and, consequently, a reduction in the carrying capacity of animals. With this, new deforestation arises so the animals can be housed comfortably. Therefore, it is necessary to propose objective methods and the use of geotechnologies associated with data mining techniques and spatial variability analysis methods through precision agriculture (or precision cattle breeding) to make the current area and crop estimation system more efficient and dynamic. This is because it is possible to work with good quality images available daily, identifying the suitability of areas and indicating their efficient use so that the conversion of exploitation forms can be carried out without degrading the forest. In this context, the general objective of this research was to develop a methodology to map the land use and evaluate the levels of pasture degradation, using different remote sensing and machine learning products, in the state of Rondônia. To this end, the work was divided into three papers: the first, investigates the origin of the current dynamics of land use and occupation in Rondônia, evaluating the consequences and environmental impacts of the colonization models, whose implementation was a factor that accelerated deforestation in the state, resulting in the landscapes over which farming and cattle ranching advances; the second proposes a new intelligent and automated methodological structure for defining desirable land use, mapping and quantifying the areas occupied by agricultural crops and pasture, aiming to delimit productive areas through conversion between use classes based on multicriteria, allowing the reordering of exploitation for livestock and agricultural production to be carried out without advancing over the forests; the third is a proposal for defining new levels of pasture degradation that meets the reality of the field and, furthermore, evaluates the spectral behavior of the different levels of degradation in order to discretize them spectrally.

Thus, it is necessary to develop cost-effective methodologies that can supply RMTC with a more accessible character to all Brazilian cities, regardless of their size. Geotechnologies are useful to this purpose. Using low-cost or free remote sensing products and automatic image classification techniques, it is possible to reduce the implementation costs of RMTCs. There are many images obtained by orbital sensors that are available without cost and which can provide information suitable to rural area mapping. This thesis developed a methodology of RMTC application that is efficient and low-cost, appropriate for application in small cities. The methodology consisted in obtaining a database composed by Planet, Sentinel-2, and Google Satellite images, which have adequate spatial resolution to rural mapping. The targets that are relevant to RMTC were mapped using two different approaches: automatic image segmentation and classification using Google Earth Engine and manual vectorization of targets that could not be classified automatically; RMTC data that is freely available online by other agencies were adjoined to the data obtained in this study and therefore were organized in an easy maintenance and accessibility WebGIS. With the obtained information, it was estimated that 27.95% of the city area is used for pasture, 33.64% is used for agriculture, and the remaining 38.41% is composed by forest areas. It was possible to estimate data over the livestock production capacity in the year of the study and carry out analyzes of the municipality's compliance with environmental conservation laws. In the present work, it was possible to use geoprocessing technologies to create a methodology capable of introducing RMTC in the administration of small municipalities, using free and robust products.

Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) detailing plays an essential role in the agricultural sector, enabling efficient monitoring, planning, and management of these areas. In this segment, remote sensing techniques have proved to be a valuable tool for mapping large agricultural areas. Therefore, the general objective of this research was to explore machine learning methods to carry out the LULC mapping through satellite images of three study areas in the state of Paraná. In addition, the generalization of the models was evaluated through cross-site classification. The work was divided into three stages covered in different scientific papers. The first paper proposed a one-dimensional Temporal Convolutional Neural Network (1D-TempCNN) to classify LULC using Satellite Image Time Series (SITS). Two other classifiers, Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM), were used to compare the results. The Overall Accuracy (OA) was above 98% for all models when the test was performed in the same training area. However, in the cross-site classification, 1D-TempCNN showed better OA values (between 94.34% and 98.67%) and greater generalization. Two Data Augmentation (DA) techniques, sliding window and scaling, contributed to the generalization of the models. This way, the proposed architecture proved viable for cross-site classification and can be used in different crop years (cross-year) or agricultural areas (cross-site). The second paper explored the early classification using the 1D-TempCNN architecture and two classic models, Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and RF. The models showed similar performance, reaching OA above 95% at the end of December. However, in the cross-site classification, only the 1D-TempCNN model achieved OA above 95% in all test scenarios, reaching this value between the beginning of December and the first half of February. Thus, this model demonstrated generalization capacity and can be used for early classification in different training areas. The third paper addressed the use of semantic segmentation to build LULC maps. Two pre-trained DeepLabv3 architectures (ResNet-50 and ResNet-101) were evaluated along with two different segmentations (true color and false color) and two training image sizes (256 x 256 and 512 x 512 pixels). The reference maps used in training and testing were derived from the results of the first paper. The OA presented results between 74.91% and 77.81%, and those of the Mean Intersection over Union (MIoU) metric between 39.46% and 52.56%. In addition, the combination of false color bands was superior to true color, and the use of smaller images resulted in more detailed and accurate maps. The model with the ResNet-101 base network presented the best results in most of the analyzed metrics. However, distinguishing between soybean and corn classes was the most significant difficulty. Therefore, this model presented generalization capacity, proving to be a viable option for constructing large area LULC maps, which allows the monitoring and planning of agricultural areas.
