To assess the effect of a Bayesian penalised likelihood (BPL) reconstruction algorithm on the five-point scale (5-PS) score, response categorisation, and potential implications for therapy decisions after interim 2-[The present study included new patients with HL undergoing iPET-CT from 2014-2019 after two cycles of doxorubicin (Adriamycin), bleomycin, vincristine, and dacarbazine (ABVD). Two reporters categorised response using the 5-PS and measured maximum standardised uptake values (SUVEighty-one iPET-CT examinations were reviewed. Compared with OSEM, BPL increased the 5-PS score by a single score in 18/81 (22.2%) patients. The frequency of potential treatment intensification by changing a score of 3-4 was 13.6% (11/81) and represented 25% (11/44) of patients with a score of 3 on OSEM. All 11 patients remained in remission without a change in therapy (mean 63 months) except one who required second-line treatment for refractory disease. Median SUVBPL PET reconstruction increased the 5-PS score on iPET-CT in 22% of HL patients and can potentially result in unnecessary treatment escalation in over half of these patients.

Stable hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur (HCNOS) isotope compositions expressed as isotope-delta values are typically reported relative to international standards such as Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water (VSMOW), Vienna Peedee belemnite (VPDB) or Vienna Cañon Diablo Troilite (VCDT). These international standards are chosen by convention and the calibration methods used to realise them in practice undergo occasional changes. To ensure longevity and reusability of published data, a comprehensive description of (1) analytical procedure, (2) traceability, (3) data processing, and (4) uncertainty evaluation is required. Following earlier International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry documents on terminology and notations, this paper proposes minimum requirements for publishing HCNOS stable-isotope delta results. Each of the requirements are presented with illustrative examples.

Main text The CCQM Isotope Ratio Working Group (IRWG) determined that an additional key comparison of carbon isotope delta measurements was required to capture the progress of this field. Vials containing 0.25 mg of vanillin were prepared at NRC, and evaluated for bottle-to-bottle homogeneity prior to distribution to the eight participating institutes. Participants were able to choose any suitable method and reference materials for carbon isotope delta measurements, and report a carbon isotope delta value and the associated uncertainty, and analysis details. To determine the key comparison reference value (KCRV) and its associated uncertainty, the NRC in collaboration with the NIST, developed a multivariate Bayesian random laboratory effects model, which also incorporates the uncertainty due to bottle-to-bottle homogeneity and any correlations between the reported results that arise due to the use of common reference materials. The KCRV for this study was determined to be -25.833 ‰ relative to the VPDB, with associated uncertainty of 0.028 ‰, and expanded uncertainty of 0.056 ‰ (k=2). Background Income and housing are pervasive social determinants of health. Subsidized housing is a prominent affordability mechanism in Canada; however, waitlists are lengthy. Subsidized rents should provide greater access to residual income, which may theoretically improve health outcomes. However, little is known about the health of tenants who wait for and receive subsidized housing. This is especially problematic for New Brunswick, a Canadian province with low population density, whose inhabitants experience income inequality, social exclusion, and challenges with healthcare access. Methods This study will use a longitudinal, prospective matched cohort design. All 4,750 households on New Brunswick’s subsidized housing wait list will be approached to participate. The survey measures various demographic, social and health indicators at six-month intervals for up to 18 months as they wait for subsidized housing. Those who receive housing will join an intervention group and receive surveys for an additional 18 months post-move date. With consent, participants will have their data linked to a provincial administrative database of medical records. Discussion Knowledge of housing and health is sparse in Canada. This study will provide stakeholders with a wealth of health information on a population that is historically under-researched and underserved.

There may be a relationship between hypoxia and inflammation, which is important in the outcomes of a wide array of human diseases. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one such disease. There is evidence that hypoxia may influence inflammation in MS. We showed previously that about 40% of participants with MS had hypoxia in the cortical grey matter using frequency-domain near-infrared spectroscopy (fdNIRS). In this study, we aimed to determine if hypoxia in MS persists chronically (for a year or more) by measuring at baseline and ≥12 months later. We found that hypoxia persists for at least a year in 80% of participants with MS. As more individuals remained hypoxic than returned to normoxia, the development of hypoxia may relate to disease progression.

In three and a half years, the University of Minnesota Carpentries Initiative has taught over 180 hours of synchronous workshops covering research computing skills to over 400 students. During this time, learners from every college in the university have been exposed to best practices and hands-on guidance in the use of programming tools to streamline a range of research activities, from cleaning data to conducting analysis to creating visualizations. This cross-campus initiative has allowed departments and individuals to expand their networks and skillsets, creating opportunities for professional growth through a scalable, sustainable service model. This chapter describes lessons learned in recruiting, maintaining, and growing a multi-departmental team of librarians, technology specialists, and graduate students to deliver data science education.

Following the reviews of atomic-weight determinations and other cognate data in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021, the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) Commission on Isotopic Abundances and Atomic Weights (CIAAW) reports changes of standard atomic weights. The symbol A r°(E) was selected for standard atomic weight of an element to distinguish it from the atomic weight of an element E in a specific substance P, designated A r(E, P). The CIAAW has changed the values of the standard atomic weights of five elements based on recent determinations of terrestrial isotopic abundances: Ar (argon): from 39.948 ± 0.001 to [39.792, 39.963] Hf (hafnium): from 178.49 ± 0.02 to 178.486 ± 0.006 Ir (iridium): from 192.217 ± 0.003 to 192.217 ± 0.002 Pb (lead): from 207.2 ± 0.1 to [206.14, 207.94] Yb (ytterbium): from 173.054 ± 0.005 to 173.045 ± 0.010 The standard atomic weight of argon and lead have changed to an interval to reflect that the natural variation in isotopic composition exceeds the measurement uncertainty of A r(Ar) and A r(Pb) in a specific substance. Trabajo presentado en EGU General Assembly, celebrado en Vienna (Austria) del 23 al 27 de mayo de 2022., Sudden Stratospheric Warmings (SSW) are known to have impacts on the tropospheric atmospheric circulation that can persist up to 60 days. The aim of this work is to evaluate the influence of SSW on both observed mean wind speed and daily peak wind gusts across the Northern Hemisphere for 1961-2021. A set of 26 SSW with tropospheric response, including split (12) and displaced (14) events, are chosen for this matter. Daily wind speed means and peak gust data are retrieved from the quality-controlled and sub-daily station dataset: HadISD. The ultimate goal will be to prove the ability of SSW as possible source of predictability in the medium term for surface wind speed across the Northern Hemisphere, which would have direct applications in areas such as: wind-power generation, agriculture and air quality, among many other socioeconomic and environmental issues.

Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is the etiologic agent of varicella (chickenpox) and herpes zoster (shingles) infections commonly involving skin, mucous membranes, and less frequently the central nervous system. Traditional methods for the laboratory diagnosis of these infections are time-consuming, labor-intensive, and often insensitive. As such, these tests are being replaced by more sensitive and rapid molecular methods. This study evaluated the performance of two different molecular assays, the Simplexa VZV Direct and Simplexa VZV Swab Direct, to detect VZV DNA in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and lesion-swab specimens, respectively. The Simplexa VZV Direct and Simplexa VZV Swab Direct assays were compared against individual composite reference methods that varied depending on the sample cohort examined. A total of 883 CSF and 452 cutaneous and mucocutaneous prospective, retrospective, and contrived specimens were evaluated in this multicenter study. The results of this study showed that the Simplexa assays demonstrated near perfect agreement (k = 0.98) compared to the composite reference methods for the detection of VZV in CSF and lesion swab specimens. A further comparison between the standard of care molecular assays employed at the site of specimen collection and the Simplexa assays demonstrated excellent agreement (k = 1.0). The Simplexa assays offer rapid and reliable alternatives for the detection of VZV in certain clinical specimens without the need for nucleic acid extraction.

Urquhart works in several areas of logic where he has proved important results. Our paper outlines his topological lattice representation and attempts to relate it to other lattice representations. We show that there are different ways to generalize Priestley's representation of distributive lattices---Urquhart's being one of them, which tries to keep prime filters (or their generalizations) in the representation. Along the way, we also mention how semilattices and lattices figured into Urquhart's work.

This paper considers modalities added to the relevance logic LR (lattice-R), which is R with the distributivity of conjunction and disjunction omitted. First, the modalities are defined from the Ackermann constants and the lattice connectives. Then, we introduce modalities as primitives equipped with some fairly usual properties. We also consider some other logics in the neighborhood. For each logic, including classical linear logic, we prove decidability. Lincoln, Mitchell, Scedrov, and Shankar (1992) claimed to have proved classical linear logic undecidable. We examine their work and find that their paper does not contain a proof of the admissibility of the cut rule, which would be essential for their claims to hold. Furthermore, according to their interpretation of proofs in linear logic, computations that lead to a dead-end state are not considered, unlike computations from inaccessible states that are included. The same problem with the direction of a proof vs the direction of a computation appears in all other publications that claim undecidability, including Kanovich (2016).

We present a UV spectroscopic study of ionized outflows in 21 active galactic nuclei (AGN), observed with the HST. The targets of the SUBWAYS sample were selected with the aim to probe the parameter space of the underexplored AGN between the local Seyfert galaxies and the luminous quasars at high redshifts. Our targets, spanning redshifts of 0.1-0.4 and bolometric luminosities (L_bol) of 10^45-10^46 erg/s, have been observed with a large multi-wavelength campaign. Here, we model the UV spectra and look for different types of AGN outflows. We find that 60% of our targets show a presence of outflowing H I absorption, while 40% exhibit ionized outflows seen as absorption by either C IV, N V, or O VI. This is comparable to the occurrence of ionized outflows seen in the local Seyfert galaxies. All UV absorption lines in the sample are relatively narrow, with outflow velocities reaching up to -3300 km/s. We did not detect any UV counterparts to the X-ray ultra-fast outflows (UFOs), most likely due to their being too highly ionized. However, all SUBWAYS targets with an X-ray UFO demonstrate the presence of UV outflows at lower velocities. We find significant correlations between the column density (N) of the UV ions and L_bol of the AGN, with N of H I decreasing with L_bol, while N of O VI is increasing with L_bol. This is likely to be a photoionization effect, where toward higher AGN luminosities, the wind becomes more ionized, resulting in less absorption by neutral or low-ionization ions and more absorption by high-ionization ions. In addition, we find that N of the UV ions decreases as their outflow velocity increases. This may be explained by a mechanical power that is evacuating the UV-absorbing medium. Refereed/Peer-reviewed This study establishes baseline water quality characteristics for the Gold Coast Broadwater, southern Moreton Bay (Australia) utilising routinely monitored parameters between 2016 and 2021, across 18 sites. Combined site mean concentrations of NOx-N, NH3-N and total nitrogen were 11.4 ± 33.4 μg/L, 12.7 ± 27.2 μg/L, and 169 ± 109 μg/L, respectively, whilst PO4-P and total phosphorous were 7.30 ± 5.10 μg/L and 21.7 ± 14.1 μg/L. Additionally, total suspended solids and turbidity combined site means were 6.6 ± 6.0 mg/L and 3.4 ± 2.9 NTU, respectively. During high rainfall periods nutrient concentrations increased by up to >200-, >150-, 15-, 12- and >12-fold for NOx-N, NH3-N, TN, PO4-P and TP, respectively, compared to quiescent conditions. Furthermore, TSS and NTU values increased by up to 15- and 40-fold during periods of measured rainfall compared to quiescent conditions.

We describe an undocumented change in how calm periods in near-surface wind speed (and direction) observations have been encoded in a subset of global datasets of sub-daily data after 2013. This has resulted in the under-estimation of the number of calm periods for meteorological stations across much of Asia and Europe. Hence average wind speeds after 2013 have been over-estimated, affecting the assessment of changes in global stilling and reversal phenomena after this date. By addressing this encoding change we show that globally, since 2010, wind speeds have recovered by around 30% less than previously thought., ZZ was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (grants no. 42071022).
