Abstract The traditional multi-line laser 3D reconstruction is based on binocular epipolar constraints and the equation of the laser optical plane. Firstly, matching points are identified based on the epipolar constraints. Then, the correct matching points are selected based on the optical plane equation of the multi-line laser. Finally, 3D reconstruction is performed using the selected matching points. In actual production processes involving multi-line lasers, noticeable distortion occurs due to the projection of Diffractive Optical Elements (DOE) at a large angle. This results in curved laser light planes and curved reflections on the measured objects. Under such circumstances, efficiently screening matching points using the traditional method based on the laser plane equation becomes challenging. Additionally, inherent noise in multi-line laser systems introduces errors in extracted laser center coordinates, making it impossible to directly obtain high-precision 3D data. To address these issues, this paper proposes a method that utilizes spatial quadric surfaces and geometric estimation for completing multi-line laser 3D reconstructions. By analyzing the distortion principle of DOE and the positional relationship after optical diffraction, the multi-line laser manifests as a quadric surface on the optical output plane. Consequently, by calibrating the equations of the quadric surface and applying binocular polar constraints, suitable matching points for the multi-line laser can be chosen. Once an accurate matching point is identified, a minimum geometric distance estimation can be established based on the distance constraint between the point and its corresponding epipolar line. This distance represents the separation between the left and right camera’s laser center points and their respective epipolar lines. Utilizing this estimate of the minimum geometric distance, a refined calculation can be performed to better satisfy epipolar constraints and obtain new matching points. Ultimately, utilizing these new matching points enables the completion of 3D reconstruction for multi-line lasers. In comparison with methods relying on spatial plane and epipolar constraints, our algorithm exhibits a superior degree of matchability and accuracy.According to multiple groups of test data, the average error before optimization is 0.3126 mm, and can be increased to 0.0336 mm after optimization.

Abstract Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is considered to be one of the most comprehensive and influential form of traditional medicine. It plays an important role in clinical treatment and adjuvant therapy for cancer. However, the complex composition of TCM presents challenges to the comprehensive and systematic understanding of its antitumor mechanisms, which hinders further development of TCM with antitumor effects. Omics technologies can immensely help in elucidating the mechanism of action of drugs. They utilize high-throughput sequencing and detection techniques to provide deeper insights into biological systems, revealing the intricate mechanisms through which TCM combats tumors. Multi-omics approaches can be used to elucidate the interrelationships among different omics layers by integrating data from various omics disciplines. By analyzing a large amount of data, these approaches further unravel the complex network of mechanisms underlying the antitumor effects of TCM and explain the mutual regulations across different molecular levels. In this study, we presented a comprehensive overview of the recent progress in single-omics and multi-omics research focused on elucidating the mechanisms underlying the antitumor effects of TCM. We discussed the significance of omics technologies in advancing research on the antitumor properties of TCM and also provided novel research perspectives and methodologies for further advancing this research field.

Abstract Breast cancer (BC) remains a significant health concern for women globally, prompting the relentless pursuit of novel therapeutic modalities. As a traditional Chinese medicine, Boswellia carterii has been extensively used to treat various cancers, such as BC. However, the anti-BC effect and underlying mechanism of Boswellia carterii remain largely unclear. The aim of this study is to explore the therapeutic effect of Boswellia carterii n-hexane extract (BCHE) against BC as well as its underlying mechanism. The present study showed that BCHE significantly suppressed the viability of human BC cells. Moreover, BCHE exhibited potent anti-BC activity in vivo with no significant toxic effects. Additionally, BCHE induced ferroptosis via increased Transferrin expression and the intracellular accumulation of Fe2+, as well as decreased glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) expression and the upregulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced lipid peroxidation in BC cells. In vivo experimental results also demonstrated that BCHE effectively induced ferroptosis through GPX4 downregulation and Transferrin upregulation in tumor-bearing mice. Overall, BCHE inhibited the growth of BC cells by inducing ferroptosis mediated by modulating the iron accumulation pathway and the lipid peroxidation pathway. Therefore, BCHE could serve as a potential ferroptosis-targeting drug for treating BC.

Abstract Pedestrian safety, particularly for children, relies on well-designed pathways. Child-friendly pathways play a crucial role in safeguarding young pedestrians. Shared spaces accommodating both vehicles and walkers can bring benefits to pedestrians. However, active children playing near these pathways are prone to accidents. This research aims to develop an efficient method for planning child-friendly pedestrian pathways, taking into account community development and the specific needs of children. A mixed-methods approach was employed, utilizing the Datang community in Guangzhou, China, as a case study. This approach combined drawing techniques with GIS data analysis. Drawing methods were utilized to identify points of interest for children aged 2–6. The qualitative and quantitative fuzzy analytic hierarchy process assessed factors influencing pathway planning, assigning appropriate weights. The weighted superposition analysis method constructed a comprehensive cost grid, considering various community elements. To streamline the planning process, a GIS tool was developed based on the identified factors, resulting in a practical, child-friendly pedestrian pathway network. Results indicate that this method efficiently creates child-friendly pathways, ensuring optimal connectivity within the planned road network.

BackgroundBreast cancer (BC) is one of the most frequently observed malignancies globally, yet drug development for BC has been encountering escalating challenges. Commiphora myrrha is derived from the dried resin of C. myrrha (T. Nees) Engl., and is widely adopted in China for treating BC. However, the anti-BC effect and underlying mechanism of C. myrrha remain largely unclear.MethodsMTT assay, EdU assay, and colony formation were used to determine the effect of C. myrrha n-hexane extract (CMHE) on the proliferation of human BC cells. Cell cycle distribution and apoptosis were assessed via flow cytometry analysis. Moreover, metastatic potential was evaluated using wound-scratch assay and matrigel invasion assay. The 4T1 breast cancer-bearing mouse model was established to evaluate the anti-BC efficacy of CMHE in vivo. RNA-sequencing analysis, quantitative real-time PCR, immunoblotting, immunohistochemical analysis, RNA interference assay, and database analysis were conducted to uncover the underlying mechanism of the anti-BC effect of CMHE.ResultsWe demonstrated the significant inhibition in the proliferative capability of BC cell lines MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 by CMHE. Moreover, CMHE-induced G0/G1 phase arrest and apoptosis of the above two BC cell lines were also observed. CMHE dramatically repressed the metastatic potential of these two cells in vitro. Additionally, the administration of CMHE remarkably suppressed tumor growth in 4T1 tumor–bearing mice. No obvious toxic or side effects of CMHE administration in mice were noted. Furthermore, immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis demonstrated that CMHE treatment inhibited the proliferative and metastatic abilities of cancer cells, while also promoting apoptosis in the tumor tissues of mice. Based on RNA sequencing analysis, quantitative real-time PCR, immunoblotting, and IHC assay, the administration of CMHE downregulated Cyclin D1/CDK4-Rb signaling pathway in BC. Furthermore, RNA interference assay and database analysis showed that downregulated Cyclin D1/CDK4 signaling cascade participated in the anti-BC activity of CMHE.ConclusionCMHE treatment resulted in the suppression of BC cell growth through the stimulation of cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase and the induction of apoptotic cell death via the inhibition of the Cyclin D1/CDK4-Rb pathway, thereby enhancing the anti-BC effect of CMHE. CMHE has potential anti-BC effects, particularly in those harboring aberrant activation of Cyclin D1/CDK4-Rb signaling.

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study is to conduct a systematic review to assess the effects of different forms of resistance exercises (resistance exercise, resistance exercise combined with aerobic exercise, and resistance exercise combined with other exercises) on physical fitness, quality of life (QOL), and fatigue of patients with cancer.MethodsWe conducted a systematic review using the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions guidelines. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases for the studies from the establishment of the database to September 2023, including randomized controlled trials and clinical trials that evaluated the effects of different resistance exercise on physical fitness, QOL, and fatigue in all patients with cancer. Two reviewers independently assessed the quality of all the included studies using the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions and MINORS scale. We divided the intervention into three types: resistance exercise, resistance exercise combined with aerobic exercise, and resistance exercise combined with other exercises.ResultsIn total, 48 studies (3,843 participants) met the inclusion criteria. The three exercise intervention forms have significant effects on physical fitness and QOL, but the improvement effect on fatigue is not clear. A total of 34 studies reported significant and beneficial effects of resistance exercise on physical fitness across all types of cancer. There were 28 studies that reported significant or borderline improvement effects of resistance on QOL, and only 10 studies reported significant effects of resistance exercise interventions on fatigue improvement in patients with cancer.ConclusionsResistance exercise, resistance exercise combined with aerobic exercise, and resistance exercise combined with other exercises all have a positive effect on improving fitness and QOL in patients with cancer. Resistance exercise has an advantage in improving muscle strength, while combined resistance exercise has an advantage in improving QOL; however, there are no consistent findings in improving fatigue, although low-intensity resistance exercise is effective.Systematic review registrationwww.inplasy.com, identifier INPLASY2023110034.

Abstract Intestinal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) is a multifaceted pathological process, and there is a lack of clear treatment for intestinal I/R injury. During intestinal I/R, oxidative stress and inflammation triggered by cells can trigger a variety of cell death mechanisms, including apoptosis, autophagy, pyroptosis, ferroptosis, and necrosis. These cell death processes can send a danger signal for the body to be damaged and prevent intestinal I/R injury. Therefore, identifying key regulatory molecules or markers of these cell death mechanisms when intestinal I/R injury occurs may provide valuable information for the treatment of intestinal I/R injury. This paper reviews the regulatory molecules and potential markers that may be involved in regulating cell death during intestinal I/R and elaborates on the cell death mechanism of intestinal I/R injury at the molecular level to provide a theoretical basis for discovering new molecules or markers regulating cell death during intestinal I/R injury and provides ideas for drug development for the treatment of intestinal I/R injury.

Abstract Background Usenamine A, a novel natural compound initially isolated from the lichen Usnea longissima, has exhibited promising efficacy against hepatoma in prior investigation. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanisms responsible for its antihepatoma effects remain unclear. Furthermore, the role of the AKT/mechanistic target of the rapamycin (mTOR)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3)/inhibitor of differentiation/DNA binding 1 (ID1) signaling axis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and the potential anti-HCC effects of drugs targeting this pathway are not well understood. Methods CCK-8 assay was used to investigate the effects of usenamine A on the proliferation of human HCC cells. Moreover, the effects of usenamine A on the invasion ability of human HCC cells were evaluated by transwell assay. In addition, expression profiling analysis, quantitative real-time PCR, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry (IHC) analysis, RNAi, immunoprecipitation, and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay were used to explore the effects of usenamine A on the newly identified AKT/mTOR/STAT3/ID1 signaling axis in human HCC cells. Results Usenamine A inhibited the proliferation and invasion of human HCC cell lines (HepG2 and SK-HEP-1). Through the analysis of gene expression profiling, we identified that usenamine A suppressed the expression of ID1 in human HCC cells. Furthermore, immunoprecipitation experiments revealed that usenamine A facilitated the degradation of the ID1 protein via the ubiquitin–proteasome pathway. Moreover, usenamine A inhibited the activity of STAT3 in human HCC cells. ChIP analysis demonstrated that STAT3 positively regulated ID1 expression at the transcriptional level in human HCC cells. The STAT3/ID1 axis played a role in mediating the anti-proliferative and anti-invasive impacts of usenamine A on human HCC cells. Additionally, usenamine A suppressed the STAT3/ID1 axis through AKT/mTOR signaling in human HCC cells. Conclusion Usenamine A displayed robust anti-HCC potential, partly attributed to its capacity to downregulate the AKT/mTOR/STAT3/ID1 signaling pathway and promote ubiquitin–proteasome-mediated ID1 degradation. Usenamine A has the potential to be developed as a therapeutic agent for HCC cases characterized by abnormal AKT/mTOR/STAT3/ID1 signaling, and targeting the AKT/mTOR/STAT3 signaling pathway may be a viable option for treating patients with HCC exhibiting elevated ID1 expression.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on glycolipid metabolism among type 2 diabetes patients.MethodsHIIT is consistent with an exercise program (65%-90%VO2max or 75%-95% HRmax; exercise cycle≥2 weeks; frequency ≥ 2 times/week). A meta-analysis was conducted utilizing the random effects model to synthesize the data.ResultsA total of 22 RCT studies with 1034 diabetic patients were included. The gut microbiota, known as the “forgotten organ” and “human second genome,” comprises a complex microecosystem. It significantly influences the development of various tumors, including colorectal, liver, stomach, breast, and lung cancers, through both direct and indirect mechanisms. These mechanisms include the “gut-liver” axis, the “lung-intestine” axis, and interactions with the immune system. The intestinal flora exhibits dual roles in cancer, both promoting and suppressing its progression. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) can alter cancer progression by regulating the intestinal flora. It modifies the intestinal flora’s composition and structure, along with the levels of endogenous metabolites, thus affecting the intestinal barrier, immune system, and overall body metabolism. These actions contribute to TCM’s significant antitumor effects. Moreover, the gut microbiota metabolizes TCM components, enhancing their antitumor properties. Therefore, exploring the interaction between TCM and the intestinal flora offers a novel perspective in understanding TCM’s antitumor mechanisms. This paper succinctly reviews the association between gut flora and the development of tumors, including colorectal, liver, gastric, breast, and lung cancers. It further examines current research on the interaction between TCM and intestinal flora, with a focus on its antitumor efficacy. It identifies limitations in existing studies and suggests recommendations, providing insights into antitumor drug research and exploring TCM’s antitumor effectiveness. Additionally, this paper aims to guide future research on TCM and the gut microbiota in antitumor studies.

Abstract Plants with partial or complete loss of chlorophylls and other pigments are frequently occurring in nature but not commonly found. In the present study, we characterize a leaf color mutant ‘arly01’ with an albino stripe in the middle of the leaf, which is an uncommon ornamental trait in Anoectochilus roxburghii. The albino “mutant” middle portion and green “normal” leaf parts were observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and their pigment contents were determined. The mutant portion exhibited underdevelopment of plastids and had reduced chlorophyll and other pigment (carotenoid, anthocyanin, and flavonoid) content compared to the normal portion. Meanwhile, comparative transcript analysis and metabolic pathways mapping showed that a total of 599 differentially expressed genes were mapped to 78 KEGG pathways, most of which were down-regulated in the mutant portion. The five most affected metabolic pathways were determined to be oxidative phosphorylation, photosynthesis system, carbon fixation & starch and sucrose metabolism, porphyrin and chlorophyll metabolism, and flavonoid biosynthesis. Our findings suggested that the mutant ‘arly01’ was a partial albinism of A. roxburghii, characterized by the underdevelopment of chloroplasts, low contents of photosynthetic and other color pigments, and a number of down-regulated genes and metabolites. With the emergence of ornamental A. roxburghii in southern China, ‘arly01’ could become a popular cultivar due to its unique aesthetics.

Abstract Ferroptosis is a non-apoptotic form of regulated cell death characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. It can be triggered by various mechanisms, including the glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4)-glutathione (GSH) axis, iron metabolism, lipid metabolism, the GTP cyclohydrolase 1 (GCH1)-tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) pathway, and the ferroptosis suppressor protein 1 (FSP1)-coenzyme Q10 axis. The redox balance is disrupted when ferroptosis occurs in cells, which is fatal to cancer cells. Additionally, some tumor-associated genes are involved in ferroptosis. Hence, targeting ferroptosis might be an effective strategy for treating cancer. Several small-molecule compounds exhibit anti-tumor effects through ferroptosis, including sorafenib and altretamine, which induce ferroptosis by inhibiting System-Xc and GPX4 respectively, but many problems, such as poor druggability, still exist. Some studies have shown that many traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) induce ferroptosis by inhibiting GPX4, solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11), and nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2), or by increasing the expression of Acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4), transferrin (TF), and transferrin receptor 1 (TFR1). These changes can lead to the lysosomal degradation of ferritin, accumulation of iron, lipid peroxidation and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which in turn can promote anti-tumor activities or synergistic effects with chemotherapeutic drugs. In this study, we elucidated the underlying mechanisms of ferroptosis, and the anti-tumor pharmacology of TCM targeting ferroptosis including prescriptions, Chinese herbs, extracts, and natural compounds. Our findings might act as valuable reference for research on anti-tumor drugs targeting ferroptosis, especially those drugs developed from TCM.

The traditional multi-line laser calibration method relies primarily on calibrating the spatial plane equations of multiple laser lines and reconstructing the multi-line laser in three dimensions through the plane equation and camera parameters. In traditional methods, the multi-line laser is projected as a straight line by default, but in reality, the laser line projected by the multi-line laser is not a plane due to the Diffractive Optical Element (DOE). Instead, it is a surface with a certain curvature in space. During the production process, the multi-line laser experiences significant distortion because of the DOE projecting at a large angle. Consequently, if traditional methods are used, accurate calibration of the multi-line laser cannot be achieved. To address this issue, this paper introduces a new calibration algorithm for multi-line laser based on a spatial quadric equation. By calibrating the spatial quadric equation of the multi-line laser, the spatial characteristics of the laser can be accurately captured. The algorithm involves projecting a crossed 7-line laser onto a calibration plate and changing the position of the calibration plate while capturing images. This allows for obtaining the spatial three-dimensional coordinates of each laser line in the camera coordinate system. Next, spatial quadric equations are fitted for each laser line based on the three-dimensional coordinates. Finally, 3D reconstruction is performed using the quadratic surface parameters of the multi-line laser and camera parameters. The results from 3D reconstruction demonstrate that, compared to traditional laser calibration methods based on planes, the proposed algorithm achieves higher calibration accuracy. It also improves the number of successful binocular multi-line laser matches and overall accuracy.

Abstract Soft porous organic crystals with stimuli‐responsive single‐crystal‐to‐single‐crystal (SCSC) transformations are important tools for unraveling their structural transformations at the molecular level, which is of crucial importance for the rapid development of stimuli‐responsive systems. Carefully balancing the crystallinity and flexibility of materials is the prerequisite to construct advanced organic crystals with SCSC, which remains challenging. Herein, a squaraine‐based soft porous organic crystal (SPOC‐SQ) with multiple gas‐induced SCSC transformations and temperature‐regulated gate‐opening adsorption of various C1‐C3 hydrocarbons is reported. SPOC‐SQ is featured with both crystallinity and flexibility, which enable pertaining the single crystallinity of the purely organic framework during accommodating gas molecules and directly unveiling gas‐framework interplays by SCXRD technique. Thanks to the excellent softness of SPOC‐SQ crystals, multiple metastable single crystals are obtained after gas removals, which demonstrates a molecular‐scale shape‐memory effect. Benefiting from the single crystallinity, the molecule‐level structural evolutions of the SPOC‐SQ crystal framework during gas departure are uncovered. With the unique temperature‐dependent gate‐opening structural transformations, SPOC‐SQ exhibits distinctly different absorption behaviors towards C3H6 and C3H8, and highly efficient and selective separation of C3H6/C3H8 (v/v, 50/50) is achieved at 273 K. Such advanced soft porous organic crystals are of both theoretical values and practical implications.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major global cause of carcinoma-related fatality. The inhibition of tubulin polymerization holds significant potential in the development of cancer drugs. In our study, we synthesized a novel pyrrolidine-2,5-dione derivative (compound 8) that exhibited potent anti-HCC activity (IC50 value of 2.082 μM) against human HCC HepG2 cells. Moreover, compound 8 significantly suppressed the HepG2 cell multiplication, and triggered G2/M phase arrest of HepG2 cells and their apoptosis. Further mechanistic investigations revealed that compound 8 suppressed tubulin polymerization by directly binding to the colchicine binding site of β-tubulin. Additionally, compound 8 significantly inhibited tumor growth with low toxicity in nude HepG2 tumor-bearing mice, achieving an approximate inhibition rate of 45.73 %. Therefore, compound 8 represents a promising pharmaceutical candidate for HCC management.

Abstract Background Cognitive function generally declines with the aging process. Although the association of physical fitness with cognitive function has been proved, how many and how well the physical fitness components are linked to cognitive function is not clear. This study aimed to examine the association of physical fitness with cognitive function, and find out which aspects of physical fitness components are the most closely related to cognitive function in community-dwelling older adults. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted from March to July 2019. The sample consisted of 107 older people in the community with a mean age of 71.7 ± 5.0 years. The cognitive function of the participants was measured by a Chinese version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). Several physical fitness items including grip strength, 5-repetition sit-to-stand, timed up and go, sit and reach, one-leg balance with the eye open, and 6-min walk were measured to reflect muscle strength, muscle endurance, agility, flexibility, balance, and cardiopulmonary endurance, respectively. Abstract A weak codon usage bias was found in Dendrobium catenatum (D. officiale) antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), after the analysis of relative synonymous codon usage, GC contents, and the effective number of codons. The codon usage preference was mainly influenced by natural selection pressure. The self‐optimized prediction method and SWISS‐MODEL were applied for peptide structural and domain analyses, and some typical antimicrobial domains were found in D. officinale AMP amino sequences, such as knot1 domain, gibberellins‐stimulated domain, cupin_1 domain, defensin_like domain, and SLR1‐BP (S locus‐related glycoprotein 1 binding pollen coat protein) domain. To investigate the AMPs gene expression pattern, abiotic stresses, such as salt stress, drought stress, salicylic acid (SA), and methyl jasmonate (JA), were applied and the gene expression levels were detected by the real‐time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Results showed that, even though the basic AMPs gene expressions were low, some AMPs can still be induced by salt dress, while the drought dress did not show the same impact. The SA and JA signaling pathways might be involved in most of the AMPs expressions. The natural selection of the D. officinale AMPs and thus forming diverse types of AMPs enhanced the plant's innate immunity and disease resistance capability, which would lead to a better understanding of the molecular mechanism for D. officinale adapting to the environment. The finding that salt stress, SA, and JA signaling pathways can induce AMP expression lays a foundation for the further development and functional verification of D. officinale AMPs.

Abstract Ternary chalcogenide, silver antimony sulfide (AgSbS2), has emerged with great potential for optoelectronic applications, thanks to its excellent optical properties, facile processability and superior stability. However, high‐performance AgSbS2‐based photodiodes have not been realized mainly due to the large dark current caused by the poor morphology and device leakage. Here, compact AgSbS2 and porous AgSbS2 thin films are fabricated mainly via modulating the sol–gel processes of the precursors. After optimizing the Ag content and the thermal annealing temperature of the AgSbS2 films, AgSbS2 photodiodes with excellent performance metrics, including low dark current density, decent specific detectivity, and superior stability, are achieved. Furthermore, the optimized AgSbS2‐based photodetectors are also introduced for heart rate detection, which exhibit excellent sensitivity and great potential for real applications.

ObjectiveTo compare the predictive performance of the percentage body fat (PBF), body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), waist–hip ratio (WHR), waist–height ratio (WHtR), a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI), abdominal volume index (AVI), and conicity index (CI) for identifying hypertension.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted among 2,801 adults (1,499 men and 1,302 women) aged 18 to 81 in Ningbo, China. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) analysis and multiple non-parametric Z tests were used to compare the areas under the curve (AUC). The maximum Youden's indices were used to determine the optimal cut-off points of 10 obesity-related indices (ORI) for hypertension risk.ResultsThe AUC of all the indices were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The AUC of all the indices in men and women were 0.67–0.73 and 0.72–0.79, respectively. Further non-parametric Z tests showed that WHR had the highest AUC values in both men [0.73 (95% CI: 0.70, 0.76)] and women (0.79 (95% CI: 0.75, 0.83)], and several central ORI (men: WHR, WC, BRI, AVI, and CI, 0.71–0.73; women: WC, WHR, and AVI, 0.77–0.79) were higher than general ORI (PBF and BMI, 0.68 in men; 0.72–0.75 in women), with adjusted P < 0.05. The optimal cut-off points for identifying hypertension in men and women were as follows: PBF (23.55%, 32.55%), BMI (25.72 kg/m2, 23.46 kg/m2), HC (97.59 cm, 94.82 cm), WC (90.26 cm, 82.78 cm), WHR (0.91, 0.88), WHtR (0.51, 0.55), ABSI (0.08 m7/6/kg2/3, 0.08 m7/6/kg2/3), BRI (4.05, 4.32), AVI (16.31 cm2, 13.83 cm2), and CI (1.23 m2/3/kg1/2, 1.27 m2/3/kg1/2). Multivariate logistic regression models showed that all indices were statistically significant (P < 0.05) with the adjusted ORs (per 1-SD increase) at 1.39–2.06 and ORs (over the optimal cut-off points) at 1.80–2.64.ConclusionsAll 10 ORI (PBF, BMI, HC, WC, WHR, WHtR, ABSI, BRI, AVI, and CI) can effectively predict hypertension, among which WHR should be recommended as the best predictor. Central ORI (WHR, WC, and AVI) had a better predictive performance than general ORIs (PBF and BMI) when predicting the risk of hypertension.

Cohesive sediment is ubiquitous in aquatic systems, which often forms fractal aggregates due to cohesive and adhesive forces between particles and is generally eroded as aggregates at low bed shear stresses. The erosion of aggregates plays a significant role in cohesive sediment dynamics. However, the effects of fractal bed aggregation on the erosion threshold of sediment have not been well understood. The incipient motion condition of cohesive sediment is investigated, in which particle aggregation is taken into account by employing the fractal theory and the van der Waals force between particles. A formula for the critical shear stress for surface erosion of cohesive sediments composed of fractal aggregates is developed based on the balance analysis of momentums acting on an aggregate in the bed surface. The developed formula has been successfully applied to different kinds of cohesive sediment. The fractal dimension is found as a function of the solid volume fraction and the diameter of primary particles. The contribution rate of the effective weight of aggregate to the erosion threshold of cohesive sediment is quantified.

Through the applications of recycling sewage sludge to soils as nutrients, bisphenol A (BPA) and titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2-NPs) are commonly found in the agricultural environment. Previous studies have reported that BPA and nanoparticles are harmful to the environment. However, the combined toxicity of both compounds is not yet understood. ObjectiveTo compare the predictive performance of five handgrip strengths for cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors.MethodsA total of 804 Chinese middle-aged community residents' health medical examinations were collected. The absolute handgrip strength was denoted as HGS. HGS/body weight (HGS/BW), HGS/body mass index (HGS/BMI), HGS/lean body mass (HGS/LBM), and HGS/muscle mass (HGS/MM) represented relative handgrip strength (RHGS). To assess predictive performance, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and the area under the curve (AUC) were constructed.ResultsHGS was not associated with most CVD risk biomarkers; however, RHGS showed a negative correlation trend after controlling for covariates (sex, age, smoking, and exercise). HGS/BMI and HGS/BW had better AUCs for predicting CVD risk factors than HGS/LBM or HGS/MM. HGS/BMI and HGS/BW can successfully predict all CVD risk factors in men with AUCs 0.55–0.65; similarly, women may effectively predict arteriosclerosis, hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia, and metabolic syndrome with AUCs 0.59–0.64, all p < 0.05. The optimal HGS/BW cut-off points for identifying different CVD risk factors were 0.59–0.61 in men and 0.41–0.45 in women, while the HGS/BMI were 1.75–1.79 in men and 1.11–1.15 in women.ConclusionsAlmost all CVD risk biomarkers and CVD risk factors were unrelated to HGS. There is, however, a significant inverse relationship between RHGS and CVD risk factors. HGS/BMI or HGS/BW should be recommended to be the best choice for predicting the risk of CVD risk factors in five expressions of handgrip strength. We also acquired the recommended optimal cut-off points of HGS/BMI and HGS/BW for predicting CVD risk factors.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a non-invasive approach for tumor elimination that is attracting more and more attention due to the advantages of minimal side effects and high precision. In typical PDT, reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated from photosensitizers play the pivotal role, determining the efficiency of PDT. However, applications of traditional PDT were usually limited by the aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) effect of the photosensitizers employed. Fortunately, photosensitizers with aggregation-induced emission (AIE-active photosensitizers) have been developed with biocompatibility, effective ROS generation, and superior absorption, bringing about great interest for applications in oncotherapy. In this review, we review the development of AIE-active photosensitizers and describe molecule and aggregation strategies for manipulating photosensitization. For the molecule strategy, we describe the approaches utilized for tuning ROS generation by attaching heavy atoms, constructing a donor-acceptor effect, introducing ionization, and modifying with activatable moieties. The aggregation strategy to boost ROS generation is reviewed for the first time, including consideration of the aggregation of photosensitizers, polymerization, and aggregation microenvironment manipulation. Moreover, based on AIE-active photosensitizers, the cutting-edge applications of PDT with NIR irradiated therapy, activatable therapy, hypoxic therapy, and synergistic treatment are also outlined.

Objectives: To explore the immediate and retention effect of real-time tibial acceleration feedback on running biomechanics during gait retraining. Methods: Five electronic databases were searched to identify relevant studies published before May 2022. The included studies were evaluated for methodological quality and bias risk, and data were extracted. A meta-analysis was conducted on the primary outcomes, including peak tibial acceleration (PTA) and vertical ground reaction force. Subgroup analysis was performed by gender, feedback criterion, mode, dosage, fading, retention period, and running environment to evaluate the source of heterogeneity. Qualitative analysis was performed to describe other variables. Results: Fourteen studies (174 participants) were eligible. Meta-analysis showed that real-time tibial acceleration feedback reduced PTA (P < .01, P < .01), vertical impact peak (P = .004, P < .01), vertical average loading rate (P < .01, P < .01), and vertical instantaneous loading rate (P < .01, P < .01) after feedback and during retention period (5 min-12 mo). Subgroup analysis showed that the immediate effect of vertical impact peak was more noticeable with mixed gender (P = .005) and fading feedback (P = .005) conditions, and the retention effect of PTA was more noticeable with high feedback dosage (P < .01) and fading feedback (P < .01) conditions. Conclusions: Real-time tibial acceleration feedback can reduce PTA and vertical ground reaction force during gait retraining, and for periods of 5 minutes to 12 months when the feedback is removed.
