It has been reported that stingless bees of the genus Trigonaare regular visitors to the Jatropha curcasbioenergetic plant, physic nut. These bees use their mandibular system to extract cellulose and resin from the stem, materials necessary for the construction of nests. The objective of this work was to evaluate the prevalence of begomovirus (BV) in populations of Trigonas visitors of J. curcasin Soconusco, Chiapas, Mexico. Eleven individuals of the genus Trigonawere collected in five populations, individuals were grouped as T. fuscipennisand T. fulviventris, using taxonomic clues. Using the PA/PB primers, 79% and 69% of T. fuscipennisand T. fulviventris, respectively, had BVs. The results suggest that bees of the genus Trigonacould be transmitters of BV, a potential risk in the crop J. curcas.

AbstractComplications related to pulmonary artery stenting are potentially life-threatening. We reported a novel technique of how to achieve the introduction of a partial dilated stent into a long sheath using a snare in the event of a iatrogenic perforation of a balloon catheter.There are no publications of similar techniques describing successful resolution of this type of complication.

Evidence supporting a starting dose of 2 g/day of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) in combination with tacrolimus (TAC) for renal transplantation (RT) is still limited, but maintaining a dose of <2 g could result in worse clinical outcomes in terms of acute rejection (AR). This study aimed to determine the association between AR and infectious and noninfectious complications after RT with a dose of 1.5 g vs2 g of MMF. A prospective cohort study was performed with a 12-month follow-up of recipients of RT from living donors with low (1.5 g/day) or standard (2 g/day) doses of MMF. The association between adverse effects and complications and doses of MMF was examined using Cox proportional hazard models, and survival free of AR, infectious diseases, and noninfectious complications was evaluated using the Kaplan–Meier test. At the end of the follow-up, the incidence of infectious diseases was 52% versus 50% (P= .71) and AR was 5% versus 5% (P= .86), respectively. The survival rate free of gastrointestinal (GI) complications requiring medical attention was higher in the low-dose group than in the standard-dose dose (88% vs 45%, respectively; P< .001). The use of 1.5 g/day of MMF confers a reduction in GI complications without an increase in infectious diseases or the risk of AR.

Portal hypertension may have major consequences on the pulmonary vasculature due to the complex pathophysiological interactions between the liver and lungs. Portopulmonary hypertension (PoPH), a subset of group 1 pulmonary hypertension (PH), is a serious pulmonary vascular disease secondary to portal hypertension, and is the fourth most common subtype of pulmonary arterial hypertension. It is most commonly observed in cirrhotic patients; however, patients with noncirrhotic portal hypertension can also develop it. On suspicion of PoPH, the initial evaluation is by a transthoracic echocardiogram in which, if elevated pulmonary pressures are shown, patients should undergo right heart catheterization to confirm the diagnosis. The prognosis is extremely poor in untreated patients; therefore, management includes pulmonary arterial hypertension therapies with the aim of improving pulmonary hemodynamics and moving patients to orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). In this article, we review in detail the epidemiology, pathophysiology, process for diagnosis, and most current treatments including OLT and prognosis in patients with PoPH. In addition, we present a diagnostic algorithm that includes the current criteria to properly select patients with PoPH who are candidates for OLT.

Aunque las manifestaciones oftálmicas parecen estar asociadas a la enfermedad por coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), no hay suficiente evidencia. Por ello, el objetivo de este estudio fue determinar los distintos tipos y la frecuencia de las manifestaciones oftálmicas en pacientes recuperados de la infección con SARS-CoV-2 en México.

Yeast cultures of Saccharomyces cerevisiaewere exposed to pulsed magnetic fields of low intensity. Field intensities from 0.92 mT to 2.73mT and frequencies of 20, 77.5, 135, 192.5 and 250Hz were employed. Proliferation and cell viability measurements were made in exposed and control cultures. For the frequency of 20Hz, statistically significant differences were found (p<0.001) in cell proliferation using field intensities of 1.81 and 2.71mT. No changes were observed at this frequency for lower field strengths. At 77.5Hz, only changes in proliferation were observed for 0.92mT (p<0.001). No changes were observed to any other frequency or intensity of the magnetic field. The cell viability studies were performed at different times, from 4 to 12h of exposure. At 1.81mT and 20Hz, an increase in colony-forming units (CFUs) of 26.1% was observed (p<0.024) at 4h, and after 10h of exposure the increase in CFUs was 51.5% (p<0.001). But when exposing the cells for 9h to a magnetic field of 2.71mT at 20Hz, the CFUs decreased by 25.9% (p<0.003), and at 0.92mT and 77.5Hz, a decrease in CFUs of 18.6% was observed (p<0.019) at 4h, while after 12 h of exposure an increase in CFU of 23.5% (p<0.010) was determined. These results suggest the presence of a frequency window between 20Hz and 77.5Hz, where the effects of the magnetic field are significant.
