Permo-Triassic intrusive rocks and back-arc basins are exposed in the İstanbul-Zonguldak Tectonic Unit in the West Pontides. Their tectono-magmatic history, thus to the evolution of the back-arc basins, is poorly understood. Here, I present on olivine-bearing basalt and andesite dykes and granite dykes and pyroxene-bearing andesite dykes of Permo-Triassic crystallization and their Pb-loss ages from the basement rocks and sedimentary rocks in the İstanbul-Zonguldak Tectonic Unit (NW Turkey). They have holocrystalline and porphyritic to vitrophyric textures. U-Pb dating of igneous zircon grains from olivine-bearing basalt and andesite dykes and granite dykes yielded Middle Permian ages of ca. 270.1 ± 1.1 to 261.4 ± 1.7 Ma (2σ), and pyroxene-bearing andesite dykes obtained Early Triassic ages of ca. 252.1 ± 2.4 to 250.1 ± 2.0 Ma (2σ). Their young ages of the dykes yielded Late Triassic ages of ca. 228 to 220 Ma (2σ). Geochemically, the Middle Permian dykes have a calc-alkaline affinity and are notable for subduction components, as indicated by the presence of distinct negative Nb anomalies. Early Triassic dykes show alkaline signatures and show within-plate character, corresponding to prominent positive Nb anomalies. Combined with data from the literature, the Middle Permian dykes are magmatic products associated with the Tethys Ocean subducting under the Pontides and the Early Triassic dykes are magmatic pulses related to the rifting of the Permo-Triassic back-arc basins. The Late Triassic young ages of the Permo-Triassic dykes in the İstanbul-Zonguldak Tectonic Unit represent a deformation event corresponding to the Cimmerian Orogeny, and this implies that the Permo-Triassic back-arc basins closed during the late Triassic. Subduction erosion at convergent margins is a leading mechanism for the destruction (recycling and reworking) of continental crust. But because of the lack of direct evidence, it is not straightforward to identify erosive events and their intensities in fossil subduction zones. The Heilongjiang accretionary complex in northeastern China was formed during the early Mesozoic subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Ocean. We investigated amphibolites from this accretionary complex, whose protoliths (based on whole-rock trace elements and Sr-Nd-Hf isotopes) were mafic continental arc magmatic rocks (255-249 Ma; zircon core U-Pb ages) from the upper plate. Phase equilibria modeling constrained by mineral geochemistry indicates that the amphibolites and their wall rocks were first heated to low granulite facies (750-800 °C, ~7 kbar) at 251-244 Ma (zircon rim U-Pb ages) and then cooled to ~700 °C with increasing pressure (8-9 kbar) before 213-187 Ma (titanite and apatite U-Pb ages). To explain the occurrence of the lower arc crustal lithologies in the accretionary complex and their metamorphic history, we propose that the subducting plate strongly eroded the forearc crust, allowing the plate interface to advance landward and scrape the amphibolites and wall rocks formed under the old arc, which finally were exhumed along the subduction channel and became components of the complex. The case study exemplifies direct petrological evidence of strong subduction erosion occurring in an ancient orogen, thus implying that consumption of the entire forearc crust could occur within only ~50 m.y. The Laird Lake property, southwest Red Lake greenstone belt, straddles the contact between the Balmer (2.99–2.96 Ga) and the Confederation (2.74–2.73 Ga) assemblages. The property is 10 km along strike from the Madsen and Starrat–Olsen Au mines that are hosted near the contact. The Balmer assemblage consists of fine-grained, aphyric, locally pillowed mafic volcanic rocks, ultramafic intrusive and volcanic rocks with flow breccia textures hosting local spinifex-bearing clasts, and banded-iron formations. In contrast, the Confederation assemblage comprises porphyritic mafic volcanic rocks intercalated with intermediate to felsic volcanic rocks that include crystal lapilli tuffs, crystal tuffs, and tuffs. The Balmer assemblage is composed of tholeiitic mafic volcanic rocks with minor Al-undepleted komatiites, whereas the Confederation assemblage is calc–alkalic. Neodymium isotopes, in conjunction with trace element geochemistry, suggests that parts of the Balmer assemblage were weakly contaminated by an older intermediate basement. Both arc and back-arc volcanism occurs in the Confederation assemblage, with the arc rocks showing a stronger crustal component than the back-arc rocks. A maximum U–Pb age of 2741 ± 19 Ma for a crystal tuff and an age of 2737.68 ± 0.79 Ma for a diorite are consistent with a Confederation assemblage affinity for the intermediate calc–alkaline rocks south of the Au-bearing horizon. The Balmer assemblage represents an oceanic plateau formed by plume magmatism on the margins of the North Caribou Terrane, whereas the Confederation assemblage at Laird Lake formed in an oceanic arc setting where both arc and back-arc volcanism occurred simultaneously. The Early‐Middle Jurassic is one of the crucial coal‐forming geologic periods in the world and an important target for hydrocarbon exploration in the Turpan‐Hami Basin, China. The paleoenvironment and vegetation reconstruction of the Early‐Middle Jurassic have been investigated using elemental geochemistry and palynological analysis to reveal paleoclimate evolution. A total of 48 genera of pteridophyte spore and 35 genera of gymnosperm pollen were identified, and 5 palynological assemblages were longitudinally divided, which showed significant differences in geochemical behaviours. The paleoenvironment was a transition from suboxidation to anoxia and then to an oxidation environment under freshwater conditions. The paleowater in the northern Taibei Sag was deeper than that in the southern part during the Middle Jurassic, which coincided with the sedimentary background of the sublacustrine fan in the north and the shallow braided river delta in the south. The paleovegetation evolved from mixed lowland–upland forest in the Hettangian‐Toarcian, to lowland fern forest in the Aalenian‐Bajocian, to upland conifers forest in the early Bathonian, to upland Cheirolepidiaceae forest in the late Bathonian‐Callovian. The Toarcian and Bathonian‐Callovian arid climate and the Hettangian‐Pliensbachian and Aalenian‐Bajocian warm‐humid climate were responses to the continued global warming events and the intensification of the East Asian monsoon circulation, respectively. The influence of the Bathonian‐Callovian aridification event on the sedimentary response in the southern Taibei Sag will be delayed due to the gradual southward migration of the depositional centre. The paper reports the study of geochemistry, mineral-phase assemblages of rocks of the Ary-Bulak ongonite massif, compositions of major, minor and accessory minerals (quartz, feldspars, topaz, zinnwaldite, prosopite, rare Ca–Al-fluorides, W-ixiolite, columbite, zircon, cassiterite, and fluocerite), fluoride–calcium (F–Ca) phase, and fluorite formed from it. The rock-forming minerals of porphyritic ongonites are quartz, albite and sanidine, and minor minerals are topaz and zinnwaldite. The ongonitic matrix is composed of a quartz–sanidine–albite assemblage with micron-sized needle-shaped topaz crystals. In transitional porphyritic rocks and in the endocontact aphyric zone, the interstices between matrix minerals are filled with a F–Ca phase formed from a F–Ca (fluoritic) stoichiometric melt. Fluoride–silicate liquid immiscibility in ongonitic magma and fluid-magmatic processes led to the redistribution of REE, Y, and many trace elements between melts, fluids, minerals and a contrasting change in mineral-phase assemblages in the rocks. This is associated with the appearance of M-type (T1La–Nd, T4Er–Lu) and W-type (T3Gd–Ho) tetrad effects in the chondrite-normalized REE patterns of rocks. Degassing of magmatic fluids through the endocontact aphyric zone was accompanied by the crystallization of Sr-bearing prosopite and hydrous Ca–Al-fluorides. Aphyric rocks, compared to porphyritic ongonites and porphyritic transitional rocks, are enriched in H2O, Sr, Ba, Rb, Sn, W, Ta, Be, Zr, Hf, Sb, As, Sc, but contain less Li, Pb, Zn, Y and REE. During the effect of magmatic fluids on rocks enriched in Ca and F, especially in the endocontact aphyric zone, albite was partially or completely replaced by the F–Ca phase and kaolinite, and the F–Ca phase recrystallized into aggregates of micron-sized grains of stoichiometric fluorite without trace elements. Rb-Cs mica also crystallized in the rim of zinnwaldite laths, the zones of which maximally enriched in rubidium with the cation relation Rb > K > Cs may be a new mineral. The geochemistry of the rocks, the features of their mineral-phase assemblages, the compositional evolution of the minerals and the F–Ca phase are a consequence of the formation of the Ary-Bulak massif from ongonitic magma during a fluid-magmatic process complicated by fluoride–silicate liquid immiscibility with the participation of fluoritic and other fluoride melts, as well as magmatic fluids of P–Q and the first types. The paper presents new data on a comparative analysis of sedimentary rocks from the Mendeleev Rise (Shamshura Seamount), presumably, of the Triassic age with the Aptian sandstones obtained by the underwater sampling of the Alpha–Mendeleev Rise during expeditions in 2012, 2014, and 2016. The geochemical characteristics of rocks are very similar, and the data from different-age samples form common fields on various diagrams. Petrographic studies revealed that the sandstones of presumably Late Triassic age, as well as the sandstones of Chukotka and Wrangel Island, are dominated by fragments of shale and felsic effusives. The Aptian samples are dominated by mafic rock fragments. In addition, sharp differences are observed in the age spectra of detrital zircon populations, indicating fundamentally different provenances for the Triassic and Cretaceous sandstones on the Alpha–Mendeleev Rise. Samples from the Shamshura Seamount are characterized by populations similar to those from Triassic rocks of Chukotka and Wrangel Island, suggesting the presence of Triassic rocks in this part of the Mendeleev Rise. A set of 41 stream water samples of the Lo River catchment, Ha Giang province, collected in dry season was analyzed for pH, major cation and anion, trace element concentrations. The stream waters exhibits a midly acidic to alkaline, meanwhile, the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) values have a wide range of 17.4–284.9 mg L–1. Among major cations and anions, the stream water within the Lo River catchment is characterized by the predominant presence of Ca2+ and . This compositional pattern gives rise to the emergence of the Ca–Mg–HCO3 water type as the most dominant species, followed by Na–Cl, Ca–Mg–Cl–SO4 and Na–HCO3–Cl types. However, the distribution of these water types corresponds closely with the geological conditions, with Na–Cl type prevailing in the watershed of granite complex, while watersheds characterized by lithologies such as Quaternary sediments, limestone, marble, shale, schist, and sandstone primarily exhibit the Ca–Mg–HCO3 water type. The dominant reaction in the water system is the dissolution of carbonate minerals, like calcite and dolomite, followed by the contribution of modest rainfall during the dry season, and small-scale processes of mixing and cation exchange. Comparison of major ions and trace element with technical standard reveal the stream waters are generally deemed suitable for the routine activities of the local population in Ha Giang province. In the geochemical review based on records from cruises of the International Deep Marine Drilling Project (DSDP, ODP, and IODP phases) and other literature data on the main types of Pleistocene sediments in the Atlantic, tables of average arithmetic chemical composition, mean weighted chemical composition, accumulation rates, and mass accumulation rates of chemical components are presented. These tables can be used for the comparative analysis with sediments of the same or other stratons in different oceanic basins, as well as with paleoceanic sediments on the continents. The terrigenous matrix dominates within the lithogenic matter. Using methods of mathematical statistics, we revealed the main geochemical associations and major factors determining the chemical composition of studied sediments. Masses of oxides of petrogenic elements and several trace elements have been calculated for Pleistocene sediments. Average chemical composition of Pleistocene sediments is proposed for the Atlantic. The Amazonian Craton is home to many Statherian to Calymmian taphrogenesis events that evolved over Large Igneous Provinces. The NW-SE faults on the Western Amazonian Igneous Belt (1.82–1.74Ga) and their reactivations, which facilitated the deposition of the Beneficente Group (1.76–1.60Ga), Prainha Formation (1.46Ga), and Alto Tapajós Group (Silurian-Devonian), are associated with these events in the southwest Amazonian Craton. Mineralogical composition, whole-rocks geochemistry, and Nd-Sr-Pb isotopic data show that the three sedimentary successions originated in the provinces of Rondônia-Juruena and Tapajós Parima, particularly during two rift stages. Beneficente Group deposition is associated with Paleoproterozoic Rift 1, while the Prainha Formation represents the post-rift 1, and Alto Tapajós Group deposition is associated with Paleozoic Rift 2. In addition, the Prainha Formation also received sediment supply from the Sunsás Province. These three sedimentary successions have an intrinsic relationship with the reworking of the local basement and their own reworking that occurred from the Paleoproterozoic to the Paleozoic. Autochthonous reworking, particularly in the Colíder and Beneficente groups, is demonstrated by Ti-magnetite grains, volcanic and arenite fragments in the Prainha Formation sublitharenite, and by angular microcline grains, high Au content, a Pb whole-rock isochron yielding the 1.796±0.096Ga age, and by ${\varepsilon _{Sr\left(0 \right)}}$ ε Sr 0 vs 1/Rb relationship in Alto Tapajós Group. ${\varepsilon _{Nd\left(t \right)}}$ ε Nd t and flat REE patterns and some positive Eu anomalies in the Prainha Formation and Alto Tapajós Group record the influence of the mafic rocks of the Mata-Matá suite. A Pb-Pb whole-rock isochron allowed hydrothermal activity recognition at 1.32Ga in the Vila do Carmo Formation. This event was ratified by positive Eu/Eu* (1.3–1.43), Ce/Ce* (1.24–2.84), and Gd/Gd*(~1.5) anomalies. Finally, Nd model ages, geochemistry, and Sr isotopes allow for correlating the local basement and the overlaying sedimentary successions along the Columbia and Gondwana boundaries. Advances in multi‐collector inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry (MC‐ICP‐MS) have led to the widespread use of iron (Fe) isotopes to elucidate the (bio)geochemical history of a range of environments. To generate Fe isotope ratio measurements, standard‐sample bracketing (SSB) is commonly used to correct for instrumental mass bias inherent to MC‐ICP‐MS. However, SSB is only accurate when sample and isotope standard Fe concentrations match, in addition to the bulk solution matrix. When the Fe concentrations differ, Fe isotope ratio measurement results may be inaccurate, a phenomenon known as the "self‐induced matrix effect." This study systematically characterised the self‐induced matrix effect for dry plasma Fe isotope ratio measurements on three MC‐ICP‐MS instruments and three introduction systems. Our extensive dataset indicates that: (1) the degree of mass bias is consistent regardless of MC‐ICP‐MS front‐end design, (2) the degree of mass bias becomes less reproducible as the concentration difference between the sample and bracketing standard increases, and (3) this applies to both pure Fe solutions and solutions from geological materials. This study reinforces the requirement to match bracketing standard and sample concentrations within 10% and provides a correction method for that fall beyond the recommended concentration range to subsequently allow for proper concentration matching during SSB. In the central north of Saudi Arabia, outcrop samples from the Cretaceous bauxite profile deposits in the Az Zabirah area were subjected to a comprehensive evaluation aimed at investigating their petrographical and geochemical characteristics using X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) coupled with Energy dispersive (EDS) analysis, and X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF) analysis. These bauxite deposits in the Az Zabirah area comprises of three main zones: the South zone, the Central zone, and the North zone. Petrologically, the bauxite samples predominantly consist of oolitic to pisolitic grains that are bound together by a matrix comprising bauxitic materials, iron oxides, calcite, and/or kaolinite. Mineralogical investigations indicate that the primary mineral composition of the bauxite includes gibbsite, boehmite, diaspore (kaolinite), hematite, quartz, and calcite. XRF showed that the dominant chemical components of the bauxite samples are Al2O3, SiO2, and Fe2O3. When considering the collective data from the rare earth elements (REEs) analysis (La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu) and chemical weathering indices such as the Chemical Index of Alteration (CIA), Chemical Index of Weathering (CIW), and Weathering Index of Parker (WIP), it becomes evident that the Az Zabirah South Zone bauxite laterite profile at Al Ba'itha mine was formed under the influence of significant and persistent weathering conditions. The sedimentary sequence of the Ninama Basin is associated with the latest phase of the continental Deccan volcanism of the Indian peninsula. It occurs as inter-, intratrappeans with a 39-m thick sequence comprising Sukhbhadar Formation and Ninama Limestone. The investigation aims to reconstruct its depositional setting based on the lithofacies and inorganic geochemistry to understand the influence of paleosalinity, paleoredox, paleodepth, provenance and paleoclimate on the sedimentation pattern. It is characterized by clastic and chemically formed rocks, including shale, mudstone, siltstone, sandstone and limestone. Facies analysis has revealed seven lithofacies, amongst which four are clastic facies, shale (SH), calcareous shale (CSH), silty mudstone (SM) and lithic greywacke (LGW), and three are carbonate facies, namely, grey-black limestone (GBL), cherty limestone (CL) and marlite (ML). Using geochemical analysis of major oxides and trace elements, ratios of Ca/(Ca+Fe), Sr/Ba, V/(V+Ni), V/Cr, Fe/(Ca+Mg), Ti/Al, Na/K, K/(Fe+Mg), CIA-K and MAP were determined and used to interpret and note the changes in the depositional system. The combined results of the lithofacies and geochemistry indicate that the deposition occurred in three phases. Phase 1 is characterized by high energy conditions in the shallow to moderate depth brackish-saline lake with oxic to dysoxic conditions; Phase 2 is characterized by anoxic deep fresh to the brackish water basin; and Phase 3 is characterized by semiarid conditions, saline, anoxic waters, high evaporation leading to shallowing of the lake, and low to moderate terrestrial input. This lacustrine basin in the paleotopographic low of the Deccan Volcanic Province is characterized by distinct lithology governed by various depositional parameters. A composite depositional model is constructed for the Ninama Basin, reflecting three phases of evolution that are dominantly controlled by the paleoenvironment. Research highlights: The present study focuses on lithofacies and inorganic geochemical analysis of Ninama paleolake sediments, Saurashtra intertrappeans, to interpret their paleosalinity, paleoredox, water depth, provenance, detrital influx, and paleoclimate. Phase 1 deposition was initiated in paleotopographic low of Deccan Traps, in an oxic–dysoxic, high-energy turbulent brackish water environment, in humid conditions. Phase 2 characterizes fine-grained clastic facies deposited in anoxic, fresh-brackish, deep lake waters in humid conditions. Phase 3 marks the shallowing, evident by carbonate facies with low-moderate terrestrial input deposited in saline and anoxic paleolake in semiarid conditions with high evaporation and low-moderate precipitation. Bhilangana granitoid is a batholithic size body exposed in Bhilangana Valley and later thrusted over rocks of Lesser Himalaya. It comprises mylonitized porphyritic granite gneiss, psammitic gneiss, and its variants, containing primary biotite and muscovite, and S-type in nature. Bhilangana granitoid is intruded by basic intrusive. The variation in chemical signatures and associated petrogenetic issues of Bhilangana granitoid are dealt with detailed petrographic, geochemical and mineral chemical study. In the vicinity of basic intrusive, the porphyritic granite gneiss shows enrichment of MgO, whereas its evolved part, psammitic gneiss shows more boron enrichment with the presence of tourmaline nodules surrounded by quartzo-feldspathic rim. The major mineral assemblage in Bhilangana granitoid is quartz–K-feldspar–plagioclase–biotite–muscovite with tourmaline, epidote, zircon, ilmenite, apatite and monazite. The granite is peraluminous with ASI values always >1. Biotite shows variation from Fe-rich siderophyllitic to Mg-rich eastonitic composition, indicating involvement of both Al-rich crustal and Mg-rich mafic sources, inferring source heterogeneity or mixing of felsic-mafic magma. Granitoid melt was buffered below QFM to NNO and partly above HM, indicating a strong reducing to the oxidizing condition of melt. The melt was saturated with the presence of 3.3–6.8 wt.% H2O content. The crystallization temperature of Bhilangana granitoid (TZr) ranges between 697° and 807°C with a solidification pressure of about 2.92–4.31 kbar, implying crystallization at a depth of 8.76–13 km. The presence of greisens assemblage of quartz–mica–tourmaline–epidote, along with the presence of fluorite, is a representative greisens assemblage for Sn–W mineralization. Thus, the Bhilangana granitoid represents the fertile nature and potentiality of Sn–W minerals. Research highlights: Bhilangana granitoid is S-type, peraluminous granitoid, formed by anatexis of crustal material The biotite chemistry reveals the variation in the redox condition and modification in the oxidation state, preserved in the different variant of granite representing the magma mixing or source heterogeneity in protolith. The Bhilangana granitoid has attended the crystallization temperature (TZr) of 697–807 °C under pressure of about 2.92–4.31 kb implying the depth of crystallization of 8.76–13 km. The presence of greisenization favours the potential of Sn–W minerals. The geochemical results shows abnormal enrichment of W and Sn in the Bhilangana granitoid. Cherts originating from carbonate lacustrine environments have been widely exploited by Upper Palaeolithic hunter‐gatherers in the south of the Pyrenees. Archaeo‐petrographic sourcing studies have identified different potential sources but were unable to distinguish them. This study conducted geochemical characterisation of geological and archaeological lacustrine chert samples using laser‐induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), and applied the supervised classification model partial least squares–discriminant analysis to LIBS spectra. The model was able to discriminate geological sources and provide predictions for the origin of a selection of chert artefacts recovered at the Middle Magdalenian level from Cova del Parco (Lleida, Spain). The mineralogy of some carbonate rocks from the Abakaliki Basin has been investigated to determine the depositional environment classification and assess the suitability of the rocks for application in geotechnical construction and industrial process systems. The method of investigation included field mapping and petrographic and geochemical techniques to characterize their field characteristics, mineral types and texture and chemical contents. Mapping revealed two lithologic units of sandstone and shale that associate with the carbonates in a similar sequence. The carbonates contain fossils and are composed of calcite, quartz and rockclasts. The grains have angular to sub-rounded sphericity and are dispersed in hetereolithic groundmass. The major oxide composition shows average value of 32.30wt% SiO2, 26.37wt% CaO, 7.23wt% MgO, 6.56wt% Fe2O3, 4.38wt% Al2O3, and 3.23wt% K2O + Na2O in decreasing order of abundance. Concentrations of trace elements are significantly higher (> 100 ppm) for V, Cr, Sr, Zr, Cu, Ba, Pb and Zn and comparatively lower for Sb, Ge, Ce, Y, As, Hg, Tiand Au. The studied rocks qualify as biomicrite or wackestone and range from dolomitic, through carbonaceous to siliceous limestone deposited in a wide spectrum of environment from shallow marine to transitional setting. The rocks are marginally suitable for use as aggregates due to the presence of deleterious contents of quartz and organics. For cement production, their low content of CaO, relatively high SiO2, comparatively high LOI and elevated abundances of contaminant heavy elements are major limitations. Similarly, in paper, plastic, paint, metallurgy and pharmaceutics, the rocks are unsuitable due to the constituent minerals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Devonian thick–layer dolostone is widely developed in the Shawozi Formation (SWZF) of the Sichuan Basin, however, the properties of the dolomitisation fluid and its genesis require clarification. This study adopted field observations, microscopic identification, and geochemical data analysis methods that major and trace elements, rare–earth element (REE) analyses, carbon and oxygen isotopes based on 31 samples. The results showed that dolomites were divided into crystalline dolomites and calcareous dolomites. Crystalline dolomite, which is the most widely distributed, can be further divided into fine crystalline dolomite (FCD), fine–medium crystalline dolomite (FMCD), medium crystalline dolomite (MCD), and coarse crystalline dolomites (CCD). Calcareous dolomite, fine crystalline dolomite (FCD), and fine–medium crystalline dolomite (FMCD) have higher Fe, higher Mn, and lower Sr, whereas medium crystalline dolomite (MCD) and coarse crystalline dolomite (CCD) have the opposite characteristics. The REE content was lower and weak negative anomalies of Ce and Eu were apparent, indicating that dolomite was formed in a fragile redox environment and at a relatively low temperature. The δ13CPDB value had a small variation range, with an average value of 0.04‰. Although the variation range of δ18OPDB value was more extensive, most samples were concentrated in the range of -6.53‰~-2.1‰, indicating that the overall effect of diagenetic alteration was more negligible. Two dolomitisation models were developed: reflux seepage and burial dolomitisation. The reflux seepage model mainly developed calcareous dolomite, whereas the burial model mainly developed crystalline dolomite. As the last part of the Hercynian cycle in the Yangtze region, the Dongwu Movement included the eruption of the Emeishan large igneous province (ELIP) and was an essential event between the Guadalupian and Lopingian, which had significant implications for the paleo-oceanic environment and paleoclimate of the area. To study the changes in the sedimentary environment in the Guadalupian and Lopingian, the Zhenba section was selected, and its trace elements and rare earth elements (REEs) were analyzed. From analysis of the trace elements and REEs in the Guadalupian, the limestone samples had prominent typical shallow-water seawater deposition characteristics and were less affected by terrigenous detritus, which was in an arid oxidation environment; Sr/Cu ranged from 4 to 1381, the Rb/Sr value was low, δCe < 1, Ceanom < −0.1, Er/Nd ranged from 0.1 to 0.27, and Y/Ho ranged from 44 to 72. However, in the Lopingian, the limestone samples were more affected by terrigenous detritus, which was in a humid climate with a weak oxidation‒reduction environment; the Sr/Cu ranged from 1 to 656, the Rb/Sr value was high, δCe ≅ 1, Ceanom ≥ −0.1, Er/Nd < 0.1, and Y/Ho ranged from 26 to 44. The geochemical diagrams of TiO2‒Al2O3, Al2O3‒REE, La‒Th‒Sc, Th‒Co‒Zr/10, Th‒Sc‒Zr/10 and 87Sr/86Sr of a sample indicated that the terrigenous detritus of the sample mainly came from the South Qinling active continental margin, rather than the weathering of Emeishan basalt. Acid bentonite came from the Paleo-Tethys island arc or the island arc formed by the subduction of the South China Plate beneath the North China Plate, rather than the ELIP. We integrate the existing detrital zircon data from multiple modern river sediment samples on Viti Levu, Fiji, with the most current available geological and topographic mapping of the respective river drainage basins to compare detrital populations with potential bedrock sources. The temporal and spatial variations in zircon geochemistry supplement what is known from igneous rocks and confirm the petrological differences between plutonic and volcanic rocks from the Eocene to early Oligocene (Yavuna age, >30 Ma), middle Oligocene to middle Miocene (Wainimala age, 30–12.5 Ma), late Miocene (Colo age, 12.5–6.5 Ma) and latest Miocene (Namosi age, 6.5–5 Ma). The >30 Ma Yavuna-age zircons are restricted to areas that drain the previously mapped Yavuna Group. The 30–12.5 Ma zircons are found across central Viti Levu from west to east, and the 30–15 Ma zircons have distinctively low U/Yb and high Dy/Yb ratios. They are the best radiometric evidence of widespread early to middle Miocene arc magmatism in Fiji that was relatively U-poor. Peak deconvolution of the Colo age zircons from individual basins suggests the following ages for undated or poorly dated plutons from central Viti Levu. The large Mavuvu pluton is probably composed of multiple intrusions in the 12–10 Ma range, the Waiqa pluton is probably ca 10 Ma, and the Noikoro pluton is probably ca 9 Ma. There are zircons from unknown plutonic or volcanic sources between 8 and 7 Ma in western Viti Levu that have distinct Eu/Eu* ratios. We attribute the highest U/Yb ratios in some Colo age zircons to crustal anatexis. Namosi-age zircons are abundant in the Medrausucu Group and can be found scattered across Viti Levu. Detrital zircon samples have aided geological mapping of the tropical and poorly exposed terrain in Fiji and elucidated the magmatic history. Detrital zircons indicate widespread early to middle Miocene arc magmatism across central Viti Levu. Detrital zircon ages have provided further constraints on the ages of 12-9 Ma plutons in central Viti Levu. Some Archean and Phanerozoic gold deposits demonstrate a close spatial relationship with alkalic intrusions, although the genetic connotations of this association are contentious. Only a few of the alkalic intrusions in the Kurnalpi Terrane of the Archean Kalgoorlie–Kurnalpi Rift are associated with economic gold mineralisation (e.g. at Wallaby, Karari). The subvolcanic syenitic intrusions at the 2 Moz Karari–Whirling Dervish gold deposit are markedly different from most other alkalic rocks in the Kalgoorlie–Kurnalpi Rift. Although preserving pristine to slightly modified igneous textures, the syenitic intrusions are thoroughly altered by hypogene hydrothermal fluids, such that igneous minerals, comprising apatite micro-phenocrysts and relicts of Ba-rich K-feldspar, Ba-rich biotite, sodic amphibole and Cr-rich magnetite, total <5 modal %. Elevated SO3 (up to 1 wt%) in igneous apatite shows that the alkalic magmas were S-bearing and oxidised, and a high oxidation state carried through to the hydrothermal stages that followed, including potassic (biotite) alteration, at 650 °C (apatite–biotite geothermometry). Oxidised hydrothermal activity was interrupted by periods of sodic and sodic–calcic alteration in structurally controlled zones, interpreted to record the influx of reduced, external fluids at around 400–450 °C. A second, volumetrically minor stage of potassic (K-feldspar–pyrite–hematite) alteration in the intrusions is nevertheless significant, as it matches the proximal alteration assemblage in volcaniclastic country rock-hosted gold lodes. Overall, the hydrothermal system in the intrusions evolved from pervasive, high-temperature to more focussed, structurally controlled, mesothermal alteration. The source of the high-temperature, oxidised, alkaline hydrothermal fluid is considered to be the oxidised, alkalic magma itself, including an alkalic magma chamber underlying the gold deposits. Based on evidence from Karari–Whirling Dervish, gold fertility indicators for alkalic intrusions include: (i) widespread high-temperature alkaline metasomatism, including coarsening of alkali-feldspar intergrowths, abundant hydrothermal magnesian biotite and advanced to total replacement of igneous minerals; (ii) low SiO2 and high K2O, relative to unmineralised alkalic rocks in the region; (iii) alteration of igneous titanite to hydrothermal rutile with concomitant depletion of Nb; (iv) low rare earth element/P owing to depletion of rare earth element in apatite by the potassic (biotite) alteration fluid; and (v) high V/Th relative to regional alkalic rocks. The Karari syenitic intrusions are characterised by almost complete replacement of igneous minerals by >400 °C metasomatic products, despite good textural preservation. Apatite composition indicates high-fO2 S-bearing magma. Intrusion mineralogy and textural relationships suggest a hydrothermal evolution similar to that in the gold mineralised volcaniclastic sedimentary country rocks. The alkalic magma is a potential source of the gold ore fluid, and the syenitic intrusions retain several mineralogical and chemical characteristics that probably indicate magma fertility. It is tempting in material sourcing analyses to treat chemical data primarily as numbers to be sorted, while disregarding their interlinked geochemistries. Consideration of geochemistry, however, often leads to the drawing of more nuanced and reliable conclusions. In this paper we re‐examine data published in 2020, related to the sourcing of stone #58 at Stonehenge, paying attention to geochemistry. The felsic volcanogenic tuff known as ‘green bean rock’ (GBR) and its carbonates are widely dispersed across the western Yangtze Block. This study investigates the origin, tectonic setting and genesis of GBR, as well as the environmental disruptions evident in carbonates from the western edge of the Yangtze Block. The analyses include mineralogy, whole‐rock geochemistry and the isotopic composition of zircon Hf, carbon and oxygen in GBR samples from the western edge of the Yangtze Block. The geochemical profile of GBR shows enriched LREE, Th and U content, depleted levels of Nb, Ta, Sr, Ba, K, Rb and Ti, and strong‐to‐moderate negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.15–0.18). Zircon Hf isotopes exhibit S‐type geochemical affinities with low negative εHf(t) values (−13.3 to −5.7) and TDM2 ages of 1684–2110 Ma. This suggests that the volcanic ashes originate from the magma of an intermediate to felsic composition. X‐ray directionality data show that the most prevalent clay minerals are illite and illite/smectite. Lithium fixed in these minerals is likely to have leached from brine. Early Triassic variances in δ13C profiles are reliable indicators of environmental disturbances, pointing to cycles of devastation and restoration in marine ecosystems, interspersed with extraneous events including volcanic activity. The Moon's mare volcanism predominantly occurs within the Procellarum KREEP Terrane (PKT), which is widely thought to be associated with KREEP components within the lunar interior. The Chang'e-5 (CE-5) mission sampled a young (2 Ga) mare basalt Em4/P58 unit of northern Oceanus Procellarum. The geochemistry of the CE-5 mare basalt enables assessment of mantle source compositions which are essential to understand the thermo-chemical mechanism for prolonged volcanism during secular cooling of the Moon. Geochemical compositions of the CE-5 bulk soil, breccias, and basalt clasts from various depths within the drill core consistently display high concentrations of incompatible trace elements (ITE: ∼ 0.3 × high-K KREEP; ∼ 5 μg/g Th) with KREEP-like inter-element ratios, for example for La/Sm, Nb/Ta, and Zr/Y. Exotic impact ejecta, extensive magma differentiation (<70 % fractional crystallization) and significant assimilation of KREEP materials during magma transit and eruption cannot account for the ITE contents and ratios or radiogenic isotope compositions (e.g., εNd initial of + 8 to + 9 and εHf initial of + 40 to + 46) of the CE-5 basalts; instead, partial melting of their mantle source played a dominant role. The Chang'e-5 basalt is a chemically evolved low-Ti mare basalt (Mg# of ∼ 34) with enriched KREEP-like ITE compositions but high long-term time-integrated Sm/Nd and Lu/Hf ratios, which represent a hitherto unsampled type of mare basalt. It formed by melting of an augite-rich mantle source (late-stage magma ocean cumulates containing > 30–60 % augite, and little or no ilmenite), with a small amount of late-stage interstitial melt that resembles KREEP (∼1–1.5 modal %, equivalent to 0.2–0.3 μg/g Th in the mantle source). The voluminous mare basalts making up the Em4/P58 unit (>1500 km3) provide compelling evidence for large-scale, ITE enriched young mare magmatism within Oceanus Procellarum. In combination with remote sensing data and with the unique Th-rich Apollo 12 basalt fragment 12032,366–18 (impact ejecta likely from Oceanus Procellarum), this implies that significant portions of the FeO- and Th-rich mare regions of the western PKT may also have formed in a similar way. The evolution of the Gondwana along the flank of the West African Craton was complex and is far from understood. Subduction-related activity along this margin spanned between c. 750 and 500 Ma. Sections close to African cratons record the earliest stages, while Autochthonous and Allochthonous domains of the Variscan Belt preserve the latest stages of the arc system, essentially between c. 540 and 500 Ma. The geochemistry of the Ediacaran-early Cambrian siliciclastic series deposited along this Cadomian active margin preserves the evolutionary history of their sources, which are related to activity in the arc and nearby continental areas. In this sense, the SW Iberian Massif (Ossa-Morena Complex) preserves a section of this Ediacaran-early Cambrian peri-Gondwanan arc. Its evolution can be tracked through the characterization of the subduction-related magmatism (including the Mérida Massif) and coeval metasedimentary record (Serie Negra Group and Malcocinado Formation) during a time interval spanning almost 100 m.y., from pre-602 Ma to at least c. 534 Ma. This study reveals that arc magmatism is closely linked with synorogenic deposition in a complex way so far unexplored. Arc recycling is revealed by the isotopic equivalence of synorogenic strata to the first magmatic event (pre-602 Ma), and by geochronological data of the arc-building pulses. The earliest magmatic pulses (c. 602–550 Ma) are characterized by significant crustal input, likely favoured by subduction erosion. Subsequently, magmatism evolved towards larger mantle involvement (c. 540–534 Ma), likely associated with progressive variation in the slab angle. These slab-mantle-upper plate interactions generated changes in the arc dynamics leading to an extensional setting with alkaline magmatism during the Cambrian. This review proposes a model of petrogenetic and geodynamic arc evolution between the Ediacaran and the Early Cambrian. Earth's first continental crust is formed by Archaean and mainly consisted of tonalite–trondhjemite–granodiorite with a small amount of diorites (DTTGs), which has an essential role in probing early crust–mantle dynamic regime and in understanding the formation mechanism of continental crust. Here, we present zircon U‒Pb dating and Lu‒Hf isotopes, whole-rock geochemistry, and petrography on DTTGs rocks in the Dunhuang Block. Three episodes of DTTGs were emplaced circa 2.67 Ga, 2.60 Ga, and 2.50 Ga. The circa 2.67 Ga TTGs exhibit high SiO2 contents (68.14–71.70 wt%), low MgO contents (0.65–1.31 wt%), and high ratios of (La/Yb)N (146 on average), with their enriched Nd-Hf isotopes [ƐHf (t) = -5.48–3.19 and ƐNd (t) = -5.77–0.53], indicating origination from partial melting of amphibolites at thickened lower crust. In contrast, the circa 2.60 Ga transitional TTGs exhibit relatively high MgO contents (2.80–3.39 wt%), flat REE (Rare earth element) patterns with moderate ratios of (La/Yb)N (20.49 on average), and dispersed Nd-Hf isotopes [ƐHf (t) = -5.48–3.19 and ƐNd (t)= −3.99–3.08]. Accordingly, circa 2.60 Ga transitional TTGs melts were produced by partial melting of the shallower crust induced by mantle-derived magma upwelling. The circa 2.50 Ga diorites exhibit low SiO2 (55.72–59.11 wt%) but high MgO (3.51–4.52 wt%) contents with positive Nd-Hf isotopes [ƐHf (t) = -0.16–4.17 and ƐNd (t) = 2.00–4.45], suggesting that they originated from partial melting of mantle wedges metasomatized by fluid from subduction slabs. Combined with the detailed petrogenetic studies and crustal thickness variation, we conclude that the complex crust–mantle interaction may be an essential reason for the Neoarchaean diversity of DTTGs from the Dunhuang Block, which experienced prolonged arc accretion before Neoarchaean, followed by delamination between 2.67 and 2.60 Ga and subsequently transitioned to subduction. The paper presents new geological, geochronological, geochemical and Nd-Sr isotopic data on the Meso- Neoproterozoic dolerites of the Siberian Craton. New U-Pb baddeleyite and apatite ages of a E-W-trending dyke and two sills from southeastern Siberia are 982 ± 11, 977 ± 7, 970 ± 31 and 972 ± 60 Ma, respectively, extending the area of distribution of the event by more than 100 km to the north. The Sette-Daban intrusions are subalkalic mostly low-Ti dolerites, although high-Ti dolerites have been locally documented as well. Trace element abundances in dolerites vary from typical to E-MORB to OIB with arc-like signatures represented by high Th/Yb and low TiO2/Yb ratios. All dolerite samples display moderately positive εNd(t) values varying from +3.3 to +7.7 and indicating the magmas were derived from a depleted mantle source. E-MORB and OIB intrusions are attributed to the different degree of interaction of magma between the depleted asthenospheric mantle and regions within the sub-continental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) that were metasomatically enriched during earlier subduction events. Available data on Sette-Daban event distribution, composition and duration satisfy the characteristics of a typical Large Igneous Province (LIP). Similar age 1000–950 Ma mafic magmatism is also recognized in the Baltic and Amazonian cratons and can be potentially correlated with the Sette-Daban event. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) deposits are a vital source of copper and critical elements for emerging clean technologies. Andean-type IOCG deposits form in continental arcs undergoing extension, and they have a temporal relationship with magmatism although they do not exhibit a close spatial relation with the causative intrusions. The processes required to form IOCG deposits and their potential connections to iron oxide–apatite (IOA)-type mineralization remain poorly constrained, as well as the characteristics of magmatism linked to both deposit types. Here we combine zircon U–Pb geochronology with zircon trace element geochemistry of intrusive rocks associated with the Candelaria deposit, one of the world's largest IOCG deposits, to unravel distinctive signatures diagnostic of magmatic fertility. Our results reveal a marked transition in the geochemistry of intrusions in the Candelaria district, characterized by changes in the redox state, water content and temperature of magmas over time. The oldest magmatic stage (~ 128–125 Ma), prior to the formation of the Candelaria deposit, was characterized by zircon Eu/Eu* ratios of 0.20–0.42, and redox conditions of ΔFMQ − 0.4 to + 1.0. The earliest magmatic stage related to the formation of Fe-rich mineralization at Candelaria (118–115 Ma) exhibits low zircon Eu/Eu* ratios (0.09–0.18), low oxygen fugacity values (ΔFMQ ~− 1.8 to + 0.2) and relatively high crystallization temperatures. In contrast, the youngest stage at ~ 111–108 Ma shows higher zircon Eu/Eu* (~ 0.37–0.69), higher oxygen fugacity values (ΔFMQ ~ + 0.4 to + 1.3) and a decrease in crystallization temperatures, conditions that are favorable for the transport and precipitation of sulfur and chalcophile elements. We conclude that Candelaria was formed through two distinct ore-forming stages: the first associated with a reduced, high temperature, water-poor magma developed under a low tectonic stress, followed by a more oxidized, water-rich, and low temperature magmatic event related to a compressional regime. The first event led to Fe-rich and S-poor IOA-type mineralization, while the second event with geochemical signatures similar to those of porphyry copper systems, generated the Cu- and S-rich mineralization. Repeated intrusions of mafic magma have long been known to be a driver of long-lived magmatic systems. Although the importance of mafic recharge of silicic magma systems is well-documented in igneous petrology, the origin of this recharge magma is sometimes obscure. By examining the pre-caldera intermediate dome complexes of the Tschicoma Formation and their relationship to a dacitic recharge event into the Tshirege Member of the Bandelier Tuff, we aim to better understand the origin of mafic recharge events into the Bandelier magma chamber of Valles caldera, and the relationship between different stages of volcanic activity within the broader Jemez Mountains volcanic field (JMVF). Based on major, trace element and radiogenic isotopic data, we divide the Tschicoma Formation into three geochemical groups with similar petrologic evolutionary paths. The Cerro Grande, Cerro Rubio and Pajarito Mountain volcanic dome complexes form group A and have assimilated various amounts of a granitoid crustal component with low εNd, εHf and radiogenic Pb. Group B consists of the Sawyer Dome, Rendija Canyon and Caballo Mountain dome complexes, which have principally evolved through different degrees of fractional crystallization of the same parent magma, itself a result of complex interactions of a mafic mantle-derived magma with the crust. The dacite domes and flows around Tschicoma Peak and the newly described Cañada Bonita dacite form group C and are the result of mixing of Rendija Canyon magma with mafic recharge magma which is preserved as distinct mafic enclaves. At a later stage of the JMVF, during the eruption of the Tshirege Member, distinctive hornblende–dacite pumices formed as a result of the influx of more mafic recharge magma into the system, which mobilized a pre-existing dacite intrusion and injected it into the Tshirege rhyolite (Stimac , 1996 ; Boro , et al. 2020). Based on trace element and isotopic compositions, we propose that dacite which was injected into the Tshirege magma chamber was related to the earlier-erupted Tschicoma Formation and itself represents a mixing product of Tshirege rhyolite and a precursor to the Tschicoma dacites. This implies that the Tschicoma magmatic system was long-lived yet dormant during the eruption of the Otowi Member of the Bandelier Tuff, then was reactivated shortly before the Tshirege eruption, temporarily co-existing and interacting with the Bandelier system as it erupted. The 17.44 Ma Walgidee Hills lamproite in the West Kimberley province of Western Australia is the type locality for several K-, Ba- and Ti-rich minerals characteristic of lamproites and, at 490 ha, the largest known lamproite. The Walgidee Hills pipe comprises a thin sequence of tuffs and breccia formed by explosive eruptions that excavated a large shallow crater that was infilled by lamproite magma which cooled and crystallised in situ. The lamproite is zoned in grain size, mineralogy, and mineral and rock composition from porphyritic olivine lamproite at the margin through medium-grained lamproite comprised of olivine (altered), titanian phlogopite, diopside, leucite (altered) and titanian potassic richterite to coarse gained lamproite rich in potassic richterite, priderite, jeppeite, perovskite, apatite, wadeite and noonkanbahite at the centre of the body. Compositional zoning is evident across the lamproite in phlogopite (to lower Mg and Al, higher Fe), potassic richterite (to higher Fe and Na, lower Ti), priderite (to lower Cr) and perovskite (to lower Cr and Fe, higher Na, Sr, Y, Nb, U, REE). The Walgidee Hills lamproite is ultrapotassic and ranges from olivine lamproite (up to ~21 wt % MgO, ~800 μg/g Ni, ~4 wt % K2O) to sanidine/leucite-rich lamproite (~7 wt % MgO, ≤100 μg/g Ni, ~8 wt % K2O) at the centre of the pipe. The lamproite has low Al2O3, total Fe, Na2O and CaO (except for intensely carbonate-veined rocks at the centre) and is highly enriched in TiO2 (3–6.5 wt %), Ba, Rb, Sr, Zr and LREE (LaN = 150–520 x primitive mantle). A transect and geochemical contours show MgO, Ni and Cr contents decrease and P, K, Ti, Fe, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, REE, Hf, Pb, Th and U abundances increase inwards to the most evolved rocks at the centre of the pipe, consistent with fractionation by inwards in situ crystallisation. The parent magma is estimated from the composition of the porphyritic olivine lamproite at the margins of the pipe to have ~16 ± 1 wt % MgO, ~600 μg/g Ni, ~6 wt % K2O with La/Yb ~ 150. Modelling suggests that the most MgO-rich lamproites result from entrainment of ~15–20 wt % mantle olivine in the parent magma. Cooling of the magma resulted in fractional crystallisation of olivine and in situ crystallisation with the evolved coarse-grained lamproites at the centre of the pipe crystallised from residual magma enriched in the more incompatible elements. Mantle xenocrysts include abundant Cr–Al spinel, chrome diopside, chrome pyrope, and rare diamond. Thermobarometry on the Cr diopside xenocrysts defines a cold paleogeotherm of ~38 mW/m2 and a thick lithosphere (~235 km) extending from the Kimberley craton. Many of the Cr diopsides from the deeper lithospheric mantle are enriched in K, Ba and LREE and these, and the Ti-rich spinel xenocrysts, are inferred to be derived from metasomatised mantle peridotite. The enriched trace element and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic signatures of the Walgidee Hills lamproite suggest derivation from or extensive incorporation of ancient formerly depleted lithospheric mantle that has undergone metasomatism and long term (≥2 Ga) geochemical enrichment including by melts from Paleoproterozoic subducted crust. To achieve this goal, it first introduces the basics of ML, including definitions, core concepts, and applications. Then, it starts reviewing the state-of-the-art of ML in petrology. Established applications mainly concern the so-called data-driven discovery and involve specific tasks like clustering, dimensionality reduction, classification, and regression. Among them, clustering and dimensionality reduction have been demonstrated to be valuable for decoding the chemical record stored in igneous and metamorphic phases and to enhance data visualization, respectively. Classification and regression tasks find applications, for example, in petrotectonic discrimination and geo-thermobarometry, respectively. The main core of the manuscript consists of depicting emerging trends and the future directions of ML in petrological investigations. I propose a future scenario where ML methods will progressively integrate and support established petrological methods in automating time-consuming and repetitive tasks, improving current models, and boosting discovery. In this framework, promising applications include (1) the acquisition of new multimodal petrologic data; (2) the development of data fusion techniques, physics-informed ML models, and ML-supported numerical simulations; and (3) the continuous exploration of the ML potential in petrology. To boost the contribution of ML in petrology, our main challenges are: (1) to improve the ability of ML models to capture the complexity of petrologic processes, (2) progressively link ML algorithms with the physical and thermodynamic nature of the investigated problems, and (3) to start a collaborative effort among researchers coming from different disciplines, both in research and teaching. The central Inner Mongolia, located at the intersection of the northern margin of the North China Craton (NCC) and the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, is crucial for deciphering the Late Palaeozoic tectonic evolution associated with the subduction and closure of the Palaeo‐Asian Ocean (PAO). Our study focused on petrology, detrital zircon LA–ICP–MS U–Pb geochronology and whole‐rock geochemistry for the Late Carboniferous to Permian sandstones within the Shuanmazhuang, Dahongshan, Naobaogou, and Laowopu formations in Siziwang Banner, central Inner Mongolia. This comprehensive analysis shed light on the dynamic interplay between the NCC and the South Mongolia Block. Detrital zircon U–Pb ages in investigated samples mainly cluster between 250 and 2650 Ma, with significant peaks at 2.4–2.5 Ga, 1.8–2.0 Ga, 400–430 Ma, and 250–320 Ma, respectively. The geochemistry data are characterized by SiO2 contents (56.29–77.95 wt. %), Na2O / K2O ratios (0.45–1.58) and SiO2/Al2O3 ratios between 4.33 and 7.44. Moreover, they exhibit the slight enrichment in large ion lithophile elements (Rb and Ba) and the depletion in high field strength elements (Nb, Ta, Th, and U). These facts indicate that the sedimentary detritus predominantly originates from felsic sources, probably deriving from the Late Carboniferous–Permian continental island arc‐related intermediate‐acid igneous rocks, the Late Ordovician‐Silurian magmatic rocks in the Bainaimiao arc and the basements of the NCC. Furthermore, our present results also suggest that during the Early–Middle Permian, accelerating oceanic crust subduction triggered significant magmatic events in Siziwang Banner, leading to rapid uplift and the erosion of arc magmatic rocks, as well as the abundant corresponding sediments. Subsequently, the gradual convergence and eventual collision between the NCC and the Southern Mongolian Block took place at the end of the Permian, representing final closure of the PAO. The Ramagiri greenstone terrane (RGT) of Central Dharwar craton, India, is recognized as remnants of Archean oceanic crust squeezed between ancient proto‐continental terranes. The granites and gneisses formed as a result of partial melting, resisted subduction and collided, sinking the intervening ocean basin. The geochemical characteristics of the bimodal metavolcanics of RGT were carefully assessed using suitable proxy. An insight into them suggests that the mafic rocks bear characteristics of island arc tholeiites belonging to suprasubduction zone setting, as corroborated by their low TiO2/Yb (avg 443) and high Th/Nb (avg 0.8). Their high V/Ti (avg 0.3) ratio points towards a mantle source that has been influenced by subduction, whereas low Ti/Yb echoes high degrees of shallow melting with little residual garnet. The felsic rocks on the other hand are metaluminous–peraluminous, mostly calc‐alkaline and geochemically akin to I‐ and S‐type syncollisional and volcanic arc granite emplaced during intercontinent collision. Modeling the behavior of trace elements during lunar magma ocean solidification is important to further our understanding of the chemical evolution of the Moon. Lunar magma ocean evolution models rely on consistent datasets on how trace elements partition between a lunar silicate melt and coexisting minerals at different pressures, temperatures, and redox conditions. Here we report new experimental trace element partition coefficients (D) between clinopyroxene (cpx), pigeonite, orthopyroxene, plagioclase, olivine (ol), and silicate melt at conditions relevant for the lunar magma ocean. The data include Dcpx−melt at ambient and high pressures (1.5 GPa and 1310 °C), and partition coefficients at ambient pressure for pig, opx, ol, and pl. Overall, clinopyroxene is a phase that may control the fractionation of key geochemical trace element ratios, such as Lu/Hf and Sm/Nd, during the evolution of the lunar magma ocean. We explore the impact of the new silicate Dmineral−melt on the trace element evolution of the lunar magma ocean and we find that accessory phosphate minerals, such as apatite or whitlockite are of critical importance to explain the observed trace element and isotopic signature of the KREEP reservoir on the Moon. The new partition coefficients were applied to calculate the trace element evolution of the residual melts of the crystallizing lunar magma ocean and we propose a new trace element composition for the urKREEP reservoir. The analysis of olivine-hosted melt inclusions (MIs) from the whole sub-alkaline and alkaline magmatic suites of Mt. Etna provides fundamental information about the composition of undifferentiated magmas and their pristine volatile content. Olivine crystals (Fo88-66) were selected for Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) analysis of volatile species (H2O, CO2, F, Cl and S) contained in their host MIs, after preliminary high-pressure/high-temperature re-homogenization, which allowed to reduce the developing of cracks in the host olivine and diffusion-driven outgassing of volatiles from the melt inclusions. This permitted to explore the compositional variability of volatiles of undifferentiated melts and the degassing behavior through the feeding system. The studied MIs show significant major elements compositional heterogeneities (44.57–52.37 wt% SiO2; 3.60–7.51 wt% Na2O + K2O). Fractionation modelling was performed with Rhyolite-MELTs under variable fO2 regimes (∆FMQ + 1.5 to + 3), starting from the less evolved MIs compositions and ultimately reproducing most of the observed compositional trends. Mantle melting modelling was used to replicate the observed MIs composition, starting from a spinel-lherzolitic source, accounting for the alkalinity and Fe content of reproduced melts by varying the eutectic contribution of Amph/Phlog and Opx/Cpx respectively. Although most of the studied MIs were degassed in an open-conduit regime, the observed range of volatile concentration in MIs (2.42–6.14 wt% H2O; 308–8474 ppm CO2; 132–697 ppm F; 221–1766 ppm Cl and 16–1992 ppm S) is correlated with a slight decrease in the molar H2O/(H2O + CO2) ratio from early tholeiites to the recent 2015 alkaline products. The Samba Cu deposit is located in pre-Katangan Supergroup basement metavolcanic rocks of the Central African Copperbelt in Zambia. To better understand the formation of the Cu deposit, we use geochronologic, geochemical, and S isotopic data obtained for the deposit's host rocks and sulfide minerals. Laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometric (LA-ICP-MS) dating of zircon from host rocks, including quartz-sericite schist and biotite-sericitechlorite schist, yields ages of 1967 ± 17 Ma and 1960 ± 20 Ma, which are interpreted as the crystallization ages of the original volcanic rocks. Re-Os analyses of molybdenite intergrown with chalcopyrite constrain sulfide deposition to 548.1 ± 7.5 Ma and 524.1 ± 7.3 Ma, which correspond to the timing of the Cu mineralization. LA-ICPMS U-Pb analyses of metamorphic rutile from the biotite-sericite-chlorite schist yield a U-Pb age of 508.3 ± 6.6 Ma, which is interpreted to represent the age of regional metamorphism. Siliciclastic muds (clay-and silt-sized sediment) concentrate physical and chemical weathering products. However, both rock composition and climate can affect the mineralogy and geochemistry of these sediments. We quantitatively assessed the influence of provenance and climate on muds collected from end-member climates to test, which, if any, of these potential weathering signatures are indicative of climate in finegrained, fluvial sediments. Granulometry, mineralogy, and geochemistry of the studied muds indicated that provenance and mineral sorting hinder interpretation of (paleo)climate signals. These issues also affect chemical index of alteration (CIA) values, as well as mafic-felsic-weathering (MFW), Al2O3-(CaO* + Na2O)-K2O (A-CN-K), and Al2O3-(CaO* + Na2O + K2O)-(FeOT + MgO) (ACNK-FM) ternary plots, decreasing their utility as paleoclimate proxies. CaO content is heavily weighted within the calculations, resulting in even felsic-sourced sediment commonly plotting as mafic owing to the relative enrichment in CaO from preferential sorting of Ca-rich minerals into the mudsized fraction during transport. These results cast doubt on the indiscriminate use of CIA values and ternary plots for interpreting chemical weathering and paleoclimate within muds, particularly from glacial systems. Most notably, the positive correlations between CIA and climatic parameters (mean annual temperature and mean annual precipitation) diminished when sediments that had formed in nonglacial settings were filtered out from the data sets. This implies that CIA may only be applicable when used in nonglacial systems in which the composition of the primary source material is well constrained-such as soil/paleosol profiles. Studies have revealed the key role of deepseated, ore-forming fluids and metals in the generation of the Early Cretaceous largescale gold deposits in the Jiaodong gold province of eastern China. However, how the ore-forming materials were transported to shallow crustal levels remains unclear. Here, we investigate trace elements and sulfur isotopes of pyrite within mafic microgranular enclaves (MMEs) of Gushan granite to evaluate the role of the syn-mineralization of mafic enclaves in the transportation of ore-forming materials. Zircon U-Pb and molybdenite Re-Os dating indicate that the magmatichydrothermal event in the potassic-altered Gushan granite occurred at ca. 120 Ma, which is contemporaneous with the Jiaodong gold mineralization. The texture and geochemical compositions of pyrite indicate that pyrite grains hosted by Gushan MMEs are of deuteric hydrothermal origin and precipitated during or shortly after magma mixing. The distribution of elements (i.e., Co, Cu, Ni, Zn, As, Ag, Au, Pb, and Bi) and the sulfur isotope (4.14‰-8.8‰) data for pyrites from Gushan MMEs are quite identical to those of the Xiejia diorite intrusion (DI) and other ores from the Jiaodong gold province, which indicates a common source of these pyrites. The common origin of the pyrites, combined with evidence from previous work, suggest that the ore-forming fluids and materials originated from the metasomatized lithospheric mantle, which was the repository of water, sulfur, and volatiles from the subducted Paleo-Pacific plate, rather than by direct release from the subducted sediments of the Paleo-Pacific plate. Our results collectively show that the arc-like mafic magmas derived from the metasomatized lithospheric mantle at ca. 120 Ma were the intermediary that transported the gold and other oreforming components from the deep mantle to the shallow crustal levels where gold and ore-related material were injected into the Weideshan granitic suite during magma mixing. Thus, the Weideshan granitic suite may have played a critical role by continuously transferring gold to the shallow crustal faults where it precipitated. Therefore, future research or deep-drilling exploration programs in the area should emphasize the Weideshan granitic suite rather than the Xiejia DI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Contributions of heat and/or mass from mafic magmas are commonly invoked in models of voluminous granodiorite and andesite generation in magmatic and volcanic arcs worldwide. However, mafic intrusions are a volumetrically minor component in most arc batholiths. This is the case in the Sierra Nevada batholith, California, USA, where gabbro and diorite plutons are smaller and less abundant than the granitoid suites that make up the bulk of the batholith. Here, we constrain the timing and geochemistry of mafic intrusions in the Sierra Nevada batholith to assess the role of these compositions in arc batholith construction. Previous detailed studies on a limited number of mafic intrusions demonstrate that they formed penecontemporaneously with the felsic batholith, but there is a need for a broader survey of mafic plutons using modern geochronological techniques. New U-Pb zircon ages for 13 gabbro to diorite plutons and geochemistry from 17 mafic intrusions in the eastern Sierra Nevada batholith document two main episodes of mafic magmatism in the eastern Sierra Nevada batholith, from 168 Ma to 145 Ma and from 100 Ma to 89 Ma. These episodes overlap with the ages of granitoid plutons in the eastern Sierra Nevada batholith, including the Late Jurassic Palisade Crest and Late Cretaceous John Muir intrusive suites, in addition to other felsic plutons dated in the eastern Sierra Nevada batholith. Nonprimitive mineral compositions in the mafic bodies indicate that their parental magmas are the evolved products of mantle-derived basalts that first differentiated in the lower crust prior to ascent and crystallization in the upper crust. The presence of rocks with cumulate textures, as well as a wide range of bulk-rock compositions (SiO2 wt% 38-64, Mg# 39-74), show that magmatic differentiation continued within each mafic body after intrusion into the upper crust. Sr/Y ratios in melt-like (i.e., non-cumulate) mafic samples suggest that the crustal thickness of the Sierra Nevada batholith was roughly 30 km in the Early Jurassic and increased to ~44 km by the Late Cretaceous. Concomitant intrusion of mafic melts along with voluminous granitoid plutons supports mantle melting as a major contributor of heat and magmatic volumes to the crust during construction of the eastern Sierra Nevada batholith. Alkalic magmatism occurred in the Selwyn Basin, Yukon, Canada throughout the Paleozoic, concurrent with extension during passive margin sedimentation. To examine magmatism associated with this extension, geochemical data were obtained from several locations in the Selwyn Basin (MacMillan Pass, Anvil District, Keno Hill, and the Misty Creek Embayment). Volcanic rocks from the Anvil District and the Misty Creek Embayment are dominated by alkalic basalts with light rare earth element (LREE)-enriched geochemical signatures, whereas metavolcanic and dike samples from Keno Hill comprise subalkaline basalts with enriched mid-ocean ridge basalt (E-MORB) signatures. The Early Ordovician Menzie Creek volcanic rocks of the Anvil District display trace element geochemical signatures intermediate between ocean island basalt (OIB) and E-MORB, whereas the Middle–Late Ordovician volcanic rocks from the Misty Creek Embayment have OIB signatures. Differences in the trace element geochemistry of the sample suites are attributed to the degree of partial melting. The Menzie Creek volcanic rocks formed from large volume melts of enriched mantle that diluted incompatible element signatures in the Early Ordovician. Late Ordovician magmatism produced the Misty Creek Embayment samples, where restricted melt volumes of an enriched mantle source resulted in the most enriched samples geochemically. The Keno Hill samples represent the shallowest melting of the analysed samples and may have resulted from melting of heterogenous subcontinental lithospheric mantle. Magmatic zircons from a Keno Hill metavolcanic sample analysed by chemical abrasion thermal ionization mass spectrometry resulted in a primary deposition age of c. 296 ± 0.36 Ma (Early Permian), during a period with little magmatism in the Selwyn Basin and representing a previously unknown unit in the area. Primary studies of the concentrations of rare elements in the sediments of two lakes on King George Island (Kitezh and Glubokoe) showed that their geochemistry reflects the geological features of the area. Compared to the composition of the upper part of the Earth's crust, the studied sediments are enriched in Cu, Cd, V, Tl, Mn, Ti, and P. Similar patterns have been identified in the geochemistry of volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Fildes Peninsula. Trends in REE changes generally follow their behavior in rocks, but the overall REE concentration in sediments of lakes is higher, which may be due to the presence of organic matter accumulating in sediments of water bodies. Unlike the aquatic environment, the chemical composition of sediments does not reflect the significant influence of the activities of polar stations. Here, Raman spectroscopy is used to develop a univariate partial least squares (PLS) calibration capable of quantifying geochemistry in synthetic and natural silicate glass samples. The calibration yields eight oxide-specific models that allow predictions of silicon dioxide (SiO2), sodium oxide (Na2O), potassium oxide (K2O), calcium oxide (CaO), titanium dioxide (TiO2), aluminum oxide (Al2O3), ferrous oxide (FeOT), and magnesium oxide (MgO) (wt%) in glasses spanning a wide range of compositions, while also providing correlation-coefficient matrices that highlight the importance of specific Raman channels in the regression of a particular oxide. The PLS suite is trained on 48 of the 69 total glasses, and tested against 21 validation samples (i.e., held out of training). Trends in root mean square error of calibration (RMSEC), root mean square error of cross-validation (RMSECV), and root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) model accuracy metrics are investigated to uncover the efficacy of utilizing multivariate analysis for such Raman data and are contextualized against recently produced strategies. The technique yields an average root mean of calibration (∼2.4 wt%), cross-validation (∼ 2.9 wt%), prediction (∼ 2.6 wt%), and normalized variance (∼ 28%). Raman band positional shifts are also mapped against underlying chemical variations; with major influences arising primarily as a function of overall oxidation state and silica concentration: via ferric cation (Fe3+)/ferrous cation (Fe2+) ratios and SiO2 (wt%). The algorithm is further validated preliminarily against a separate external set of 11 natural basaltic glasses to unravel the limitations of the synthetic models on natural samples, and to determine the suitability of "universal" Raman-model applications in scenarios where prior chemical contextualization of the target sample is possible. Geothermal energy has abundant reserves, is clean and environmentally friendly, and is an important alternative energy source for future oil and gas resources. However, during the development of dry hot rock geothermal energy, scaling in hydraulic fractures can easily lead to a decrease in water injection and thermal recovery capacity, affecting the effectiveness of thermal recovery. By comparing the differences in the temperature of the produced liquid in the enhanced dry hot rock geothermal system before and after scaling, the impact of scaling on geothermal development was analyzed, thereby proving the necessity of scale removal in the dry hot rock development process. The influence of different factors on the geochemical response characteristics of dry hot rocks during the descaling process using pH modified fluids was explored. The research results indicate that the generation of precipitates such as calcium carbonate in cracks can lead to a gradual decrease in the temperature of the produced liquid during geothermal development. During the experiment, the temperature of the extracted liquid decreased from the initial 178°C to the final 90°C. In addition, when the pH of the injected liquid is 4.5, the generation of precipitates such as calcium carbonate in hydraulic fractures is minimal, resulting in better geothermal development and the highest temperature of the produced liquid. However, when designing the pH value of the injection solution, it is still necessary to consider the corrosive and destructive effects of the injection solution's acidity and alkalinity on the development system. Finally, due to the sufficient heat exchange between injected water and dry hot rock at lower injection rates, the temperature of produced water will be higher. However, the effectiveness of geothermal development will deteriorate with the increase of injection rate, so it is more reasonable to design the injection rate of injected water at 6 L/min. Sedimentary basins provide a deep time archive of tectonic and Earth-surface processes that can be leveraged by detrital mineral U-Pb dating and geochemistry to track paleogeography, magmatism, and crustal evolution. Zircon preserves the long-term (billions of years) record of supercontinent cycles; however, it is biased toward preserving felsic crustal records. Detrital rutile complements the detrital zircon record by providing constraints on the time and temperature of rifting and mafic magmatism, metamorphism, exhumation of the middle and lower crust, subduction, and amagmatic orogenesis. We use detrital zircon U-Pb and detrital rutile U-Pb geochronology and trace element analysis of Permian to Eocene siliciclastic rocks in the southern Pyrenees to capture supercontinent cycles of ocean basins opening and closing. Detrital rutile age spectra show peaks at ca. 100 Ma associated with rifting and hyperextension in the Pyrenean realm, 200 Ma associated with the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province, and 330 Ma, 375 Ma, and 400 Ma associated with subduction and Rheic Ocean crust formation. Zr-in-rutile thermometry and rutile Cr-Nb systematics provide further insight into metamorphic facies (peak metamorphic temperatures) and source rock lithology (mafic versus felsic affinity). Detrital zircon age spectra have peaks at ca. 300 Ma, 450 Ma, and 600 Ma associated with major orogenic events and felsic magmatism, and Th/U ratios provide information on relative zircon formation temperatures. Comparison of these independent records shows that detrital rutile reflects rifting, magma-poor orogenesis, and oceanic lithospheric processes, while detrital zircon detects continental lithospheric processes. Granitic rocks forming in the syn- to post-orogenic stages can trace the compositional and structural complexity of the crust beneath an orogenic belt. The Qinling orogenic belt undertook multiple stages of tectonics and magmatism, resulting in the multifaceted evolution and compositional diversity of the crust. In the present study, the Guangtoushan and Miba plutons in South Qinling were chosen to reveal the crustal heterogeneity in study area via isotopic geochemistry and zircon geochronology. The Guangtoushan pluton was emplaced between ~215 Ma and ~202 Ma and the Miba pluton formed at ~213 Ma, as constrained by zircon U-Pb isotopic dating. Granitic rocks of the Miba pluton are characterized by amphibole bearing and homogeneous composition, with relatively depleted Sr-Nd isotopic compositions (initial 87Sr/86Sr values of 0.7060 to 0.7084 and initial εNd values of −5.4 to −9.5) and high Pb isotopic values. The Guangtoushan pluton contains muscovite and complex inherited zircon grains and has variable Sr-Nd isotopic composition (initial 87Sr/86Sr values of 0.7050 to 0.7091 and initial εNd values of −4.5 to −12.9) and low Pb isotopic values. Felsic magmas of the Guangtoushan pluton should be derived mainly from meta-sedimentary rocks beneath South Qinling, while the Miba pluton originated primarily from partial melting of meta-igneous rocks. The compositional diversity recorded in the Early Mesozoic plutons was caused by the heterogeneous crust, and partial melting was induced by heating of the up-welling asthenosphere in a post-collision setting. The planned pilot CO2 storage Zar-3 is an oil field with a gas cap in the final production stage in the SE Czech Republic. It is composed of a dolomite Jurassic reservoir sealed by three different formations that differ significantly in lithology. Previous studies left open questions on the nature of pore space and connectivity and the quality of the seal in the future CO2 storage complex. Microscopic petrography of the reservoir suggests dolomitisation in shallow water followed by karstification and brecciation with fracture-correct-dominated porosity. The seal horizons have porosity limited to the micro- and nanoscales. The oil consists of significantly biodegraded black oil of Jurassic origin mixed with less biodegraded gasoline-range hydrocarbons. Biomarkers in the caprock bitumens trapped in nanopores show a genetic relationship to the reservoir oil. Gas in the not yet fully depleted gas cap of the field is of thermogenic origin with no contribution of microbial methane. The formation water has total dissolved solids typical of isolated brines not diluted by infiltrated fresh water. The geochemical characteristics of the storage system together with the fact that the initial oil column is about 105 m tall with another 150 m of gas cap suggest that the seals are efficient and the Zar-3 future storage complex is tight and safe. The Zanhuang Complex is situated on the eastern margin of the Trans-North China Orogen, with the Huangcha Pluton being a constituent of this complex. To ascertain the nature of the approximately 2.5-billion-year-old Huangcha Pluton, crucial evidence for understanding its extensional setting was sought through petrogenesis and dating investigations. LA-ICP-MS dating of zircon from the granite yielded an age of (2488 ± 6) Ma. Primarily composed of porphyritic monzonite with sporadic melanocratic enclaves, the Pluton's phenocrysts are predominantly feldspar with minor quartz. The granite exhibits high SiO2 content (72.64%–74.16%) and alkali levels, with Na2O + K2O ranging from 7.59% to 9.07%, classifying it as a shoshonitic series with a slightly peraluminous feature. Enrichment in large-ion lithophile (LIL) elements (Rb, Th, and U) and depletion in Sr, V, Cr, Co, and Ni were observed, with high Rb/Sr and Ga/Al ratios ranging from 0.73 to 2.72 and 2.75 × 10−4 to 3.11 × 10−4, respectively. The rock exhibits high εNd(t) values, ranging from −0.06 to 0.88, with TDM2 ages falling between 2.79 and 2.87 billion years. Zircon grains display 176Hf/177Hf ratios ranging from 0.281266 to 0.281412 and εHf(t) values spanning from 0.96 to 6.18, calculated using the 207Pb/206Pb age. It is suggested that the Huangcha Pluton represents A-type granite formed via anatexis of the Neoarchean TTG in an extensional setting following orogenic processes. The formation of the Huangcha Pluton further corroborates the stabilization of the North China Craton towards the end of the Neoarchean. This finding supports the hypothesis that the North China Craton may belong to the Rae-family cratons, sharing similar magmatic and tectono-metamorphic records around ~2.5 billion years ago. The late Paleozoic tectonic setting of the Zongwulong Belt (ZWLB), a significant unit located in the northern Qaidam margin, Qinghai province, remains uncertain. Diabase dykes in the western part of the Zongwulong Belt offer insights into this issue. Field investigations reveal that the dips of the dykes are almost vertical, and they have sharp boundaries with the host rocks. These dykes consist of plagioclase, clinopyroxene, and opaque minerals exhibiting a characteristic porphyritic texture and massive structure. Zircon U-Pb dating of the dykes yields a weighted 206Pb/238U age of 289 ± 1 Ma. The dykes exhibit relatively high concentrations of TFeO, K2O + Na2O, and TiO2, while the SiO2 and MgO concentrations are relatively low. They display relative light-over-heavy REE enrichment, and lack negative Nb-Ta and Eu anomalies. The dykes underwent negligible crustal contamination, and experienced extensive fractional crystallization of olivine, clinopyroxene, and Fe-Ti oxides. Originating from the spinel–garnet transition zone at depths of approximately 75 km, the dykes result from garnet facies low-degree melting (5%–10%) in a continental rift setting. Combining these findings with regional geological data, we propose that the ZWLB likely experienced a continental rift in the west and exhibited a narrow oceanic environment in the east in the late Paleozoic period, potentially representing the most distant north branch of the East Paleo-Tethys Ocean. This study aims to investigate the effects of parent rock and minerals on lateritic weathering. The study presents X-ray diffraction (XRD), whole-rock geochemistry, and Nd-Sr isotopic data for examining two profiles, 10 and 12 m thick, respectively, that illustrate the regional tropical weathering status in the Midwest of Brazil. The profiles, developed from metasedimentary and sedimentary rocks, are constituted by saprolite, mottled horizon, lateritic duricrust, and oxisol. Across the profiles, the minerals controlling the weathering geochemistry are muscovite, microcline, quartz, kaolinite, hematite, goethite, and gibbsite. Red and yellow zones in the saprolite and mottled horizon as well as the lateritic duricrust with breccia/fragmental, pisolitic, and oolitic textures make profile 1 more complex. In contrast, profile 2 has an oxisol that mantles the homogeneous vermiform lateritic duricrust. Fe2O3, accumulated during surface weathering, is a potent element in the geochemical profile control since it forms the harder goethite to hematite lateritic duricrust, bearing most of the trace elements (As, Cu, Cs, Pb, Sc, Sr, Th, U, V, and Zn) with similar ionic radii and electrovalence. The LREE have affinity for the elements of the Fe2O3 group of the lateritic duricrust. On the other hand, the K2O group together with Zr and TiO2 e in the phyllite, saprolite, and mottled horizon of profile 1, are associated with the HREE. Additionally, in profile 2, the HREE are mostly associated with the Al2O3 group and the residual minerals in the oxisol. The indication that REE is associated with phosphates, zircon, rutile/anatase, cereanite, and muscovite/illite, which have variable weathering behavior, caused the REE fractionation to occur across and between the profiles. Despite the REE fractionation, the ƐNd(0) values along the profiles consistently maintain the signature of the parent rock. Muscovite and microcline weathering, in profiles 1 and 2, respectively, control the decrease in 87Sr/86Sr signatures of both profiles and the distinct radiogenic ratios. The development of lateritic duricrust in both profiles indicates a similar weathering intensity, although the gibbsite–kaolinite predominance in the oxisol of profile 2 highlights a geochemical reorganization under humid conditions, as well as near-intense soluble silica leaching. Pressure–temperature estimates of a xenolith found within a post-obduction granodiorite in southern New Caledonia provide evidence for subcrustal, granulite facies, peak crystallisation conditions (ca. 850 °C—8.5 ± 1.0 kbar), followed by isobaric cooling to 700 °C, and final decompression with partial rehydration at ca. 650 °C—3.5 kbar. The xenolith, dated at 24.7 Ma (U-Pb zircon), i.e., the same age as the granodiorite host rock, has low SiO2 (35.5 wt%) and high Al2O3 (33.2 wt%) contents, suggesting that it is the restite of a previous melting episode, while the elevated Ca (Ba and Sr) contents suggest mantle metasomatism. Although the concentrations of Rb, K, Ca, Ba, and Sr have been strongly modified, some geochemical (REE patterns and some "immobile" trace element ratios) and isotopic (Sr and Nd isotopic ratios, U-Pb zircon age) characteristics of the granulite facies xenolith are similar to those of the xenoliths found in other Late Oligocene intrusions in southern New Caledonia; therefore, this rock is interpreted to be related to an early magmatic episode. The rock protolith was emplaced and equilibrated at the base of the crust where it underwent ductile deformation. Younger ascending magma picked it up and they eventually crystallised together at a shallow crustal level, near the tectonic sole of the ophiolite. The recrystallisation and ductile deformation at ~8.5 kbar suggest that a rheological discontinuity existed at about 25–28 km, probably representing the Moho. It is concluded that a continental crust of normal thickness must have existed beneath New Caledonia at about 24 Ma, i.e., 10 Ma after obduction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The accurate reconstruction of the early Cambrian paleoclimate and paleoceanographic conditions on the Yangtze Plate is crucial for understanding the ancient environment during the Cambrian Explosion. It is also a key factor in understanding the ecological habits of organisms during the Cambrian Explosion. The study utilized field outcrops, thin section analysis, and major and trace elements to investigate the sedimentary environment, provenance, paleoweathering, and paleoclimate of the Lower Cambrian Hongjingshao (HJS) Formation (Cambrian Stage 3, ~515 Ma) in the Yangtze Basin, eastern Yunnan, SW China. The HJS sandstones are composed of 10 lithofacies, including massive and weakly bedded gravel supported by coarse sandstone (Gm), trough cross-bedded sandstone (St), planar cross-bedded sandstone (Sp), ripple cross-laminated sandstone (Sr), horizontal bedded sandstone (Sh), scour-fill sandstone (Se), massive sandstone (Sm), fine to medium sandstone with thin bed muddy siltstone (Fl), muddy siltstone (Fsc), and mudstone (Fm). On the basis of these lithofacies, channel fill and over-bank deposits in delta and shallow shelf depositional environments are suggested for HJS Formation. The major elements-based provenance discriminant function and mineral composition indicate that felsic rocks from the recycled orogen and continental block are the main sediment source terrane for the HJS sandstones of the study area. CIA, PIA, and CIW values range from 71.29 to 93.72, indicating an intermediate to intense chemical weathering and semiarid to humid climate conditions in Cambrian Stage 3. The research findings have clarified the paleoclimate and paleoceanographic environment of the Early Cambrian in the Yangtze region, which is of significant importance for understanding the early biological and ecological marine environment in the study area.
