The second technical report of InTheMED contains the description of the work progress carried out by the seven scientific teams from Portugal, Spain, Germany, Italy, Tunisia, Greece and Turkey, for the second half of the project, from September 2021 to February 2023. Furthermore, this document analyses the objectives of the project and the degree of fulfilment of each of them and revises the expected impacts, the Exploitation and Dissemination Plan and The Data Management Plan. This document collects the work done in the first part of Task 5.3 " Development and Upscaling of Remediation Technologies" and represents both D5.3a Report on the Appropriate Innovative Remediation Process Developed and M5.3a First Draft of the Innovative Remediation Strategies Performed. The aim of this document is to define specific water remediation strategies for the different cases studies of the project. This subtask is based on the results of the training session on sustainable integrated water management and the living lab, which involved stakeholders in a social learning process for the design of new water management in accordance with the 4Rs principle (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, and Recover). After the individual interviews carried out with the users and stakeholders of the Requena-Utiel aquifer, Spain, from March to October 2021, the Spanish living lab was held on the 4th of March 2022 in Requena city. The Spanish team of the PRIMA project eGroundwater and the Spanish team of the InTheMED project, both form the Universitat Politècnica de València, organized this event. The objective of this study is to provide an overview of local climate change over the Mediterranean (MED) area under the scope of the InTheMED project, EU funded in the framework of the PRIMA programme. Future precipitation and temperature projections are assessed until the end of this century for five different pilot sites, located in the MED region. To this end, the outputs of 17 Regional Climate Models under the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios are used. For each pilot site, the raw climate model data were downscaled at each monitoring station location and bias-corrected on the basis of observations recorded in a 30-year historical period. The changes in the annual precipitation are heterogeneous across the five pilot sites: a negligible variation is expected for some areas and a decrease of up to 30% for others. On the contrary, a significant increase in temperature is expected for all sites, confirming the ongoing warming in the MED region., This research is supported by the PRIMA programme under grant agreement No1923, project InTheMED. Resumen del trabajo presentado en el 7th IAHR Europe Congress, celebrado en Atenas (Grecia) del 07 al 09 de septiembre de 2022., The European research projects InTheMED and eGROUNDWATER share the aim of promoting innovative and sustainable management of the Mediterranean aquifers. One of the ways to achieve this objective is the creation of dynamic spaces in which all interested actors can cooperate, experiment and evaluate innovative ideas, different scenarios and new technologies on real cases of interest. In this regard, a living lab on improving groundwater governance, coordinated by the eGROUNDWATER team with the participation of the InTheMED team, was organized including all stakeholders who play a significant role in the management of the Requena-Utiel aquifer, which is a shared pilot site of the two projects. The aim of the living lab was to identify, together with stakeholders, problems and mitigation measures, and to evaluate possible strategies to satisfy the individual needs according to a sustainable use of the groundwater resources., Research financed by the InTheMED project, which is part of the PRIMA Programme supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme (GA n. 1923). It has also received funding from the eGROUNDWATER project (GA n. 1921), part of the PRIMA programme supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

The current document, Deliverable D5.2, is part of Task 5.2 “Capacity building on sustainable integrated water management” and targets reinforcing stakeholder capacity at the regional level, contribute to the strengthening of water related organizations, and to prepare a regional roster of experts from the MED countries who can deal successfully with sustainable water management issues in the region. There will be a call for the interested stakeholders identified in Task 5.1, who will be engaged in a social learning process for the design of new water management consistent with the 4R principle (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse and Recover) and to implement the best available technologies for an efficient treatment of their effluents. Special attention will be put on reusing treated wastewater as an alternative source of irrigation, in-situ reuse in industrial processes, and aquifer recharge. The results will be disseminated through participatory interactive sessions (Living Labs) in close collaboration with WP4 and all case-study partners. Milestone 7.4 collects the signatures of the participants to the Mid-Term Workshop of the InTheMED project that the Spanish partner hosted at UPV from March 22nd to March 24th, 2022. The Data Management Plan is the deliverable number D1.4 of the “Innovative and Sustainable Groundwater Management in the Mediterranean” Grant Agreement Number 1923 project. This document seeks to provide guidance on how to manage the data that will be collected and produced within the InTheMED project. Following the recommendations provided by the European Commission, this deliverable has been prepared considering the template of the “Guidelines on FAIR Data Management in Horizon 2020”, and it covers: Type, format and size of collected, processed and generated data. Handling of the data during and after the end of the project. Definition of the dissemination level of the data: open access or confidential. Methodologies and standards to be applied. Curation and preservation of the data during and after the end of the project. This Deliverable is the second version of the Data Management Plan (DMP) and an update of the one presented in March 2021. This updated version answers specific topics that remained unresolved in the first version. The DMP is considered to be a living document that is expected to evolve during the project. The DMP is considered a living document, meaning that it will be accurately modified and updated when significant changes occur, such as the production of new data, changes in consortium policies or changes in consortium composition and external factors. This report is part of Task 3.2 ���Training and validation of the models in the case studies. The aim of milestone M3.2 is to outline the surrogate models implemented for each study case. Their evaluation and performance are discussed. Two types of smart models were developed: the first type is developed based on long-time historical data, the so-called data-driven models; the second one is built on the basis of available numerical model.
