Background: Social media has brought incredible changes in recent times due to expanding online technological aspects which help health-care professionals to utilize them to improve patient health outcomes. It acts as an effective mode of communication for dentists to interact with patients around the globe which builds up good doctor–patient relationships. Furthermore, social media has become an abundant source of health-care patient information and acts as an excellent resource to promote health education among people. Aim: This study aims to evaluate the knowledge, practice, and perception of social media in dentistry among dental students and to identify the common social media platform used by dental students to share their online dental-related posts and further evaluate their perception toward usage of social media as a tool for dental practice to share information about dental-related diseases. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted as an online survey using self-constructed questionnaires among the undergraduate and postgraduate students at Karapaga Vinayaga Institute of Dental Sciences over 6 months, from July 15, 2023 to January 15, 2024. Participants’ consent was sought and ethical approval was received from the Ethical Review Committee. Results: About 71.6% of the postgraduates, 68.8% of interns, and 49.45% of final-year undergraduates responded that dentistry should have an online presence with a statistically significant value of P = 0.007. The majority of about 75.3% of the postgraduates accepted that social media is effective in dental practice. This states that postgraduates contribute to higher knowledge and have adequate practice in using social media in dentistry which was statistically significant. Conclusion: The present study identified that postgraduates contribute more in the count for sharing sufficient knowledge and also practice in using social media in dentistry. This study explains that it is the responsibility of dentists to educate patients more about utilizing social media as a key to gaining knowledge about dental diseases and treatment procedures. Clinical Significance: This study aims to identify the need for dentists to know more about the utilization of social media in dentistry to promote dental health education and to help the general population acquire knowledge about various dental diseases and their treatment procedures.

Introduction: The accurate diagnosis of thyroid disease relies on the sensitivity and specificity of laboratory tests, which require specific reference intervals. Thyroid hormone levels can be influenced by factors such as age, gender, iodine intake and geographical region. Therefore, it is recommended for clinical laboratories to establish their own reference intervals. Aim: To establish reference intervals for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Free Thyroxine (FT4), Anti-thyroglobulin antibody (anti-TG), and Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody (antiTPO) in males and and females. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Biochemistry, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi, India, from December 2021 to July 2022. The study included 217 apparently healthy subjects aged between 18 years and 60 years. TSH, FT4, anti-TPO, and anti-TG levels were analysed to establish reference values for males and females in the two age groups: 18-40 years and 41-60 years. Reference intervals for thyroid parameters were expressed as mean±Standard Deviation (SD), median, 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to assess the statistical significance of thyroid parameters between gender and age groups. Results: The mean age in the female population was 38.24±11.64 years, while in the male population, it was 39.24±10.98 years. Introduction: Prolactin is a hormone released from the anterior pituitary gland under tonic inhibitory control by dopamine. A decrease in dopamine levels is usually observed in decompensated liver disease, which could be due to its inhibition by the increased synthesis of false neurotransmitters. However, the level of serum prolactin in liver disease patients still remains disputed. Aim: To evaluate the serum prolactin levels in patients with liver disease of different aetiologies and compare them with healthy controls. Materials and Methods: The present cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Biochemistry from August 2021 to August 2022 at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi, Kerala, India. A total of 100 patients with liver disease and 100 age- and gender-matched healthy controls were enrolled in the study. Serum prolactin was estimated using the Electro-Chemiluminescence Immuno Assay (ECLIA) technique. The serum prolactin levels were compared among patients with liver disease of different aetiologies and with healthy controls. Statistical analysis was carried out using the Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Dun Bonferroni test. Results: The median serum prolactin levels were significantly elevated in the cases {40.61 (29.13-70.24 ng/mL)} compared to the controls {17 (10.95-20.70 ng/mL)}, This p-value is correct as the median levels for cases is {40.61 (29.13-70.24 ng/mL)}. Comparison of prolactin levels showed no statistically significant difference based on the distribution of age and gender. In the present study, prolactin levels were found to be most prominent in patients with fatty liver disease. Conclusion: The serum prolactin level increased significantly in liver disease patients, particularly in patients with fatty liver. Hence, prolactin levels can be used as a useful predictive biomarker for fatty liver.

The study aims to investigate the impact of corporate governance on financial distress of listed companies in Sri Lanka. Board size, board composition, CEO duality, board meeting, director ownership, and audit committee size are proxies for corporate governance while financial distress is measured by the Altman Z-score. Altman Z-score measures financial distress inversely and bigger the Z-score indicates the smaller the risk of financial distress. Using hundred and eight individual observations of firms listed in Sri Lanka for the period of 2019 to 2021 and employing fixed effects model, the effect of corporate governance practices on financial distress is evaluated. The results from panel data regression analysis reveal that firms having large number of directors on the board have a low likelihood of financial distress of listed companies in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, when a chief executive officer serves as the chairman of the board at a company, the more likely it is that the company will experience financial distress. But, board composition, audit committee size, board meeting and director ownership have not shown any significant impact on financial distress. The current study also provides evidence that firm-specific characteristics such as firm size, leverage and profitability, could be useful as to determining the likelihood of financial distress. The findings may be of prominence to the academic researchers, practitioners, and regulators who are interested in discovering the quality of corporate governance practices in a developing market and its impact on financial distress.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in microorganisms is an urgent global health threat. AMR of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. It is of great importance to underpin the resistance pathways involved in the mechanisms of AMR and identify the genes that are directly involved in AMR. The focus of the current study was the bacteria M. tuberculosis, which carries AMR genes that give resistance that lead to multidrug resistance. We, therefore, built a network of 43 genes and examined for potential gene-gene interactions. Then we performed a clustering analysis and identified three closely related clusters that could be involved in multidrug resistance mechanisms. Through the bioinformatics pipeline, we consistently identified six-hub genes (dnaN, polA, ftsZ, alr, ftsQ, and murC) that demonstrated the highest number of interactions within the clustering analysis. This study sheds light on the multidrug resistance of MTB and provides a protocol for discovering genes that might be involved in multidrug resistance, which will improve the treatment of resistant strains of TB., (Copyright © 2022.
