Refrigeration is an important part of the food supply chain because low temperature environment helps to maintain the quality of perishable products, thus prolonging their shelf life. However, the refrigeration system requires a considerable amount of energy consumption. This fact contributes to an increased cost in electricity bills and a reduction of competitiveness in markets. The current status of the energy consumption performance of cold stores in food companies in Thailand is scarcely available. The company stakeholders usually have no tool to evaluate their cold stores and cannot implement energy-efficiency measures effectively. In this study, a simple model based on thermal loads was developed and used to estimate the energy consumption of seven cold stores. On-site investigations were also conducted to assess their temperature performance. The results showed that the energy consumption of all investigated cold stores appeared to be better than both international and national average practices. Conversely, most cold stores exhibited moderate temperature performance. A case study of one cold store was conducted to improve its energy performance. This study aims to compare Bacillus cereus and Bacillus subtilis-operated Double chamber MFC power generation using food sector effluent. The wastewater samples were obtained from MFCs with Bacillus cereus (N=15) and subtilis (N=15) for 11 days (G power 80 percent). A multimeter measured voltage and estimated current, power, and power density for both groups. The power generation in Bacillus subtilis MFC (16003 µW/m2) was higher than Bacillus cereus (11896 µW/m2) due to its efficient biofilm formation on the anode surface. The Independent sample T test revealed that Bacillus subtilis generated considerably more MFC power (p<0.004) than Bacillus cereus. This study was conducted to examine motives and external factors of obtaining JAKIM halal certification among SMEs food manufacturers. The study employs a survey questionnaire which was distributed to the respondents during pandemic covid-19. A total of 40 completed questionnaires were returned. The results indicated that the main motive for obtaining the halal certification are customer needs and improve company image. Other motives are improved quality of products and improved production process. While the main external factors influencing the respondents to obtain JAKIM halal certification was "to fulfil customer demands". Other external factors followed by "to increase market share", "to increase customer confidence" and "can prevent food poisoning". Chilli is a plant that is not only interested by the people of Indonesia but throughout the world. It is found in many preparations, such as cooking spices and flavor enhancers in food. The high demand for Chili has made people worry about rising prices in Indonesia. In addition, Chili was also needed in parts like health, cooking ingredients, and food companies. From the data of the official government registration in July 2019, got hawkers' price of Chili was recorded at IDR 62,099 per kilogram. This was a price rise of about 21.76 percent. Suppose it is predicted that the average chili price in June 2019. chili prices have experienced a sharp spike. This is a decrease in the yield of chilli farmers. So that chilli reserves are reduced and cannot meet market needs, to overcome the spike in chilli prices, the government imports chillies from India. In the chilli cultivation process, farmers must consider many things, one of which is the selection of chilli seeds used. In addition, other factors need to be considered to get superior and quality chilli seeds. The problems that arise are those suffered by farmers regarding the selection of superior chili seeds. It is always done still manually and traditionally. Thus there is limited knowledge to determine the selection of superior chili seeds based on certain criteria. Besides that, also choosing which chili seeds are effective for planting, it is necessary to make changes so that the results are maximized. Agriculture is a sector that supports Indonesia's economic development. Agriculture in the food crop sector of the province of Banten experienced a significant increase. In 2021, Banten province will become one of the best provinces in producing rice productivity in Indonesia. Government policies need to be directed at the welfare of farmers to support the province of Banten to become the largest rice-producing province. The purpose of this research is to determine the welfare level of rice farmers in Banten province and the factors that affect the welfare of rice farmers in Banten province. Farmer's Exchange Rate is one measure in determining welfare. The Laspayers pricing index and multiple linear regression are the analysis techniques used to determine the variables that influence the welfare of the farmer. The study shows that the farmer expenditure indicator is more than the price of the agricultural commodity. The NTP (Farmer Exchange Rate) will decline in value in 2021 as a result of it. This condition is caused by the pandemic and inflation in consumer goods. Consumer price index and rice price are affecting the NTP. These factors have a positive affecting on the NTP. Indonesia is one of the fruit-producing countries with a high level of productivity. Fruit commodities are classified as perishable foods. Effective food processing efforts are needed to extend the shelf life of fruit commodities. One of the processing techniques that can be used is the packaging technique with edible packaging. Edible packaging is a packaging technique that is carried out by coating or inserting a thin layer on food. This technique has been proven to maintain the quality of fruit freshness and extend shelf life. Edible packaging materials must be resistant to changes in the food environment, safe for consumption, and do not change the taste of the food. One of the compounds commonly used in the manufacture of edible packaging is pectin. Pectin is one of the compounds that has been widely used in the food industry because of its property as a gelling agent. Pectin compound can be obtained by extraction method using water, acid solution, polyphosphate, and alcohol. Pectin can be produced from various foods, one of which is orange peel. The high productivity of oranges in Indonesia is positively correlated with high levels of orange peel waste. Oranges contain pectin which is quite high, reaching 90%. Therefore, orange peel is considered effective in producing pectin which is very useful in making edible packaging for fruit commodities. The global covid-19 pandemic situation has led to significant changes in consumption habits. Thus, the present work has as its main objective to analyze the impact of the pandemic on consumer behavior at the time of purchase, more precisely in the food and clothing sector. In order to carry out this investigation, we used a quantitative approach methodology, which was materialized in a questionnaire survey, having obtained a sample of 212 individuals. The high demand for plastic use today will result in environmental damage because the plastic that is widely used cannot be broken down. This plastic waste is dangerous for the sustainability of the food chain, pollutes water and soil, causes global warming, and causes air pollution. This research synthesizes a cellulose nanofiber composite with commercial starch in a 1:1 ratio with the influence of the addition of smoke liquid from palm oil waste. This research aims to process cellulose nanocomposite fibers combined with commercial starch and use them in biodegradable plastic by testing the effect of giving smoke liquid on the development of microbial substances in environmentally friendly biodegradable plastic food packaging. So the resulting product is expected to have the potential to reduce dependence on the use of synthetic plastic. This research aims to determine the optimum concentration of liquid acid from empty oil palm fruit bunches as an antimicrobial agent in the resulting bioplastic. The addition of liquid smoke changes the bioplastic properties of FTIR and XRD the attractive strength of bioplastic. The sample with the highest concentration of liquid smoke had the greatest tensile strength (2.34 MPa). Rapid advancements in digital technology have resulted in a new industrial revolution phenomenon known as Industry 4.0. This paper reviews the current status and progress in Indonesia heading to Industry 4.0. Natural polysaccharides such as xanthan are known for their biodegradability, biocompatibility and non-toxicity. Due to these unique characteristics, this biomaterial has been extensively investigated for many applications in the food, pharmaceutical, chemical and energy industries. For this, xanthan is needed to be produced in large amounts to cater for the industrial demand and use an alternative environmentally friendly method. Researchers have recently focused on the use of agro-waste in the production of biopolymers such as xanthan gum to reduce waste in the agricultural and food processing industry. The current method of producing xanthan relies on commercial carbon and other trace elements in the fermentation medium. As a result, the goal of this study was to evaluate the usage of liquid pineapple waste obtained from industrial waste as an alternative carbon substrate for xanthan gum production using Xanthomonas campestris ATCC 13951. In this study, different types of carbon sources such as glucose were evaluated for xanthan production. The cell dry weight and xanthan production during the 96-hours fermentation process were used to determine the efficacy of the bioprocess. It was found that liquid pineapple waste produces a 5 g/L amount of xanthan which can be used as an alternative substrate. It can be concluded that the concentration of 60 g/L of LPW was significant enough to serve as a basis for suitable carbon sources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
