Abstract

The report illustrates the state of the art of the most successful AAL applications and functions based on audio and video data, namely (i) lifelogging and self-monitoring, (ii) remote monitoring of vital signs, (iii) emotional state recognition, (iv) food intake monitoring, activity and behaviour recognition, (v) activity and personal assistance, (vi) gesture recognition, (vii) fall detection and prevention, (viii) mobility assessment and frailty recognition, and (ix) cognitive and motor rehabilitation. For these application scenarios, the report illustrates the state of play in terms of scientific advances, available products and research project. The open challenges are also highlighted.

2. SUPER rehabilitation of hamstring strain injuries in soccer players: Delphi consensus study.

Abstract

Introduction: Hamstring strain injuries (HSI) are one of the most common injuries for soccer players and there is a need for new clinical-based studies on the rehabilitation of these injuries. Objective: This study aimed to create a consensus on physiotherapy and rehabilitation approaches used in HSI by physiotherapists with super league experience in Turkey. Methods: Twenty-six male physiotherapists (duration of experience in professional life, on athlete health, and in the super league: 12.84 ± 6.04 years, 12.19 ± 5.96 years, 8.71 ± 5.31 years, respectively) from different institutions participated in the study. The research was carried out in three rounds using the Delphi method. Results: Data collected using LimeSurvey and Google Forms were analyzed using the Microsoft Excel and SPSS 22 software. The response rates over the three rounds were 100%, 96%, and 96%, respectively. The 10 main items that were agreed upon in Round 1 were divided into 93 sub-items. Their numbers in the second and third Rounds were 60 and 53, respectively. At the end of Round 3, the highest consensus was on eccentric exercise, dynamic stretching, interval running, and movement-enhancing field training. All sub-items at this round were classified as SUPER (S: Soft tissue restoration techniques; U: Using supportive approaches; P: Physical fitness exercises; E: Electro-hydro-thermal methods; and R: Return to sport activities). Conclusion: SUPER rehabilitation provides a new conceptual framework in terms of approaches used by clinicians in rehabilitation for athletes with HSI. Recognizing the lack of evidence for the various approaches involved, clinicians can modify their practice and researchers can explore whether these approaches are scientifically correct. Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between elite athletes' imagery abilities and their body awareness, plank stance duration, psychological and social skills. Material and Methods: The study included 53 healthy elite athletes (female:32, male:21). The imagery abilities of the athletes were evaluated using the Movement Imagery Questionnaire-3. A Body Awareness Questionnaire was used for body awareness assessment. Plank stance duration, psychological and social skill levels were evaluated using Sport Specific Core Muscle Strength and Stability Plank Test, Athletic Psychological Skills Inventory and Social Skills Inventory, respectively. Results: External and kinesthetic imagery was found to correlate with body awareness (r=0.33, p=0.02; r=0.39, p<0.01). There was a relationship between these imagery abilities and the prediction of body responses (r=0.31, p=0.03; r=0.38, p<0.01) and sleep-wake cycle (r=0.38, p<0.01; r=0.37, p<0.01) subdimensions of body awareness. Kinesthetic imagery also was associated with changes in paying attention to changes and reactions in the body process (r=0.30, p=0.03) sub-dimension. There was no relationship between imagery and other parameters (p>0.05). Conclusion: The external and kinesthetic imagery ability of elite athletes is related to the body awareness level. Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı Özel Cerrahi Hastanesi Diz Replasman Ameliyatı Hasta Beklenti Anketi’nin Türkçe versiyonunun geçerlilik ve güvenirliğini incelemektir. Yöntem: Bu çalışmaya total diz artroplasti endikasyonuna sahip 104 gönüllü hasta (Kadın: 81/Erkek:23), dâhil edildi. Hastaların diz replasman cerrahisinden beklentilerini sorgulayan anket 19 maddeden oluşmaktadır. Yapı geçerliliğinin değerlendirilmesinde faktör analizi yöntemi kullanıldı. Eşzamanlı geçerliliği hesaplamak için hastaların beklenti düzeylerini belirttikleri diğer ölçüm yöntemi olan Visuel Analog Skalası (VAS) kullanıldı. Anketin güvenilirliği, test-tekrar test, madde analizi ile iç tutarlılık Cronbach’s alfa katsayısı ile değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 60,25±9,72 yıl idi. Örneklem yeterlilik endeksi 0.884 idi. Faktör analizi sonucunda toplam varyansın %65,95’nin açıklandığı ve anketin özgün formundaki gibi tek boyutlu olduğu bulgusuna ulaşıldı. Anketin Türkçe versiyonu iç tutarlılık katsayısı bakımından mükemmel derecede güvenilir bulundu (Cronbach's alfa=0,929). Test-tekrar test analiz sonuçları arasında anlamlı ilişki bulundu (r=0,564; p=0,002). Eş zamanlı geçerlilik sonuçlarına göre anket ile VAS arasında anlamlı ilişki bulundu (r=0,446; p, Aim: The aim of the study was to examine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Hospital for Special Surgery Knee Replacement Expectations Survey. The survey assessing the expectations of the patients from knee replacement surgery consists of 19 items. The factor analysis method was used to evaluate construct validity. The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was used to calculate concurrent validity, which is another measurement method in which patients specify their expectation levels. The reliability of the survey was evaluated by using test-retest, item analysis, and internal consistency Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Results: The mean age of the participants was 60.25±9.72 years. The sample adequacy index was 0.884. As a result of the factor analysis, it was found that 65.95% of the total variance was explained, and it was unidimensional as in the original form of the questionnaire. The Turkish version of the questionnaire was found to be perfectly reliable regarding the internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach's alpha=0.929). 7. Total diz artroplasti cerrahisi geçiren hastalarin cerrahi öncesi IL-1Beta, IL-6 ve TNF-Alpha seviyeleri cerrahi sonrasi fonksiyonel ve yapisal sonuçlarini etkiler mi?

Abstract

Purpose: Serum cytokines were associated with symptoms and progression of osteoarthritis. It is unknown whether these cytokines have a predictive role on the severity of symptoms after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) or not. This study was performed to investigate the effect of preoperative Serum Cytokine Levels (SCL) on length of stay in hospital (LOS), postoperative pain intensity, functional status, joint position sense, and change in X-ray. Methods: Twenty-nine patients with Grade 4 osteoarthritis degeneration level were included in the study. SCL (IL-6, TNF-alpha, IL-1beta) were assessed before surgery. Pain intensity at rest/activity and lower limb alignment were evaluated preoperative, postoperative 72nd hour and 6th week. Functional status and joint position sense were assessed before surgery and 6 weeks after surgery. Length of stay in hospital was also recorded. Results: The mean age of the participants was 67.55±6.55 years. The length of stay in the hospital mean was 6.48±3.06 day (min:3, max:16 days). Preoperative IL-6 and TNF-alpha level negatively correlated with functional status in the 6th week after surgery (r=0.46; p=0.01, r=0.39; p=0.03). Also, there was a positive correlation between preoperative TNF-alpha and the lower limb alignment at the 6th week after surgery (r=0.39; p=0.04). Conclusion: Patients with osteoarthritis who had lower preoperative IL-6 and TNF-alpha levels had better functional status and better lower limb alignment in the postoperative period. So in order to decide TKA surgery timing, primarily decreasing SCL might be caused better biomechanical development after surgery. Preoperative SCL was not directly related to the length of stay in the hospital. Amaç: Serum sitokinleri osteoartritin semptomları ve progresyonu ile ilişkilidir. Bu sitokinlerin Total Diz Artroplastisi (TDA) sonrası semptomların şiddeti üzerinde tahmin edici bir etkisinin olup olmadığı bilinmemektedir. Bu çalışma cerrahi öncesi serum sitokin seviyelerinin (SSS) hastanede kalış, cerrahi sonrası ağrı şiddeti, fonksiyonel durum, eklem pozisyon hissi ve X-ray deki değişim üzerine etkisini göstermek amacıyla gerçekleştirildi. Yöntem: Evre 4 osteoartriti olan yirmi dokuz hasta çalışmaya dahil edildi. Cerrahi öncesi SSS (IL-6, TNF-alfa, IL-1beta) değerlendirildi. İstirahat/aktivite ağrı şiddeti ve alt ekstremite dizilim düzgünlüğü cerrahi öncesi, cerrahi sonrası 72. saat ve 6. haftada değerlendirildi. Fonksiyonel durum ve eklem pozisyon hissi cerrahi öncesi ve cerrahi sonrası 6. haftada değerlendirildi. Hastanede kalış süresi kaydedildi. Sonuçlar: Bireylerin yaş ortalaması 67,55±6,55 yıldı. Hastane kalış süresi ortalaması 6,48±3,06 gündü (en düşük:3, en yüksek:16). Cerrahi öncesi IL-6 ve TNF-alfa seviyeleri 6. haftada fonksiyonel durum ile negatif yönde koreleydi (r=0,46; p=0.01, r=0,39; p=0,03). Ayrıca, cerrahi öncesi TNF-alfa ve alt ekstremite dizilim düzgünlüğü arasında pozitif korelasyon vardı (r=0,39; p=0,04). Tartışma: Cerrahi öncesi daha düşük IL-6 ve TNF-alfa seviyesi olan osteoartritli hastalar cerrahi sonrası dönemde daha iyi fonksiyonel durum ve alt ekstremite düzgünlüğüne sahiptiler. Bu nedenle TDA cerrahisi zamanlamasına karar verebilmek için öncelikle SSS'nin azaltılması, cerrahi sonrası daha iyi bir biyomekanik gelişime neden olabilir. 11. The effects of motor imagery and action observation-based plyometric training on muscle architecture and jump performance of adolescent soccer players.

Abstract

Objective: Lower limb muscle-tendon injuries are the most common injuries in adolescent soccer players. The primary aim of this study was to examine the effects of motor imagery and action observation-based (MI+AO) plyometric training (PT) on the pennation angle (PA), muscle thickness (MT) and fiber length (FL) of the vastus lateralis (VL) and biceps femoris long head (BFlh). The secondary aim was to evaluate the effects of training on single leg jump performance. Methods: Thirty-six healthy adolescent soccer players (age: 13.91±1.05 years, height:162.22±10.20 cm, weight: 52.09±8.33 kg) were randomly assigned to PT (n=17) or control (n=19) groups. Athletes in both groups continued their routine training programs. PT group also participated in 3 sessions of training per week for 8 weeks. Athletes watched the prepared videos and imagined jumping. Muscle images were taken using the ultrasound probe. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 4, 8, and 12 weeks. Results: There was no significant change in the muscle architecture parameters in the control group during 8 weeks (p>0.05). The dominant (mean difference=2.40±3.45°, p=0.01) and non-dominant side (mean difference=3.32±3.75°, p=0.01) VL PA was higher in the PT group at week 4 compared the baseline. Similarly, there was a significant increase in dominant side VL MT (mean difference=0.15±0.19 cm, p=0.03), nondominant side VL MT (mean difference=0.24±0.23 cm, p=0.01), and dominant side BFlh MT (mean difference= 0.21±0.31 cm, p=0.03). Both sides jump performance was significantly better in the PT group at weeks 4 and 8 compared to baseline (mean difference=16.71±11.76 to 22.88±12.19 cm, p<0.01). In time x group interactions, non-dominant side VL PA (p=0.03) and MT (p<0.01), dominant side BFlh MT (p=0.04), and both side jump performance (p<0.01) were higher in the PT group. Conclusion: This research provides the first evidence that MI+AO PT improves muscle architecture. It is recommended that future research be conducted in injured athletes and using neuroimaging tools.
