Abstract

Ce2[Zr1-x(Zn1/3Nb2/3)x]3(MoO4)9 (CZ1-x(ZN)xM) (x = 0.02–0.08) compounds were successfully prepared to scientifically examine the effect of (Zn1/3Nb2/3)4+ doping on phase composition, microstructures, and properties. The XRD results showed that all compounds formed a pure phase with the space group of R-3c. SEM results indicated that all compounds were compact at 675 °C, and the lattice parameters and average grain size decreased with doping. Performance analysis illustrated that er was closely related to the polarizability, and Q∙f was affected by the lattice energy of the Mo–O bond. The τf was maintained at an excellent level. Far-infrared analysis indicated that the major dielectric contribution to CZ1-x(ZN)xM ceramics was related to the absorption of phonon oscillation. The optimum properties (er = 10.72, Q∙f = 59,381 GHz, τf = −11.48 ppm/°C) were obtained when x = 0.04.

Abstract

This paper reports on the successful preparation of LaPO4-x wt.% LiF (x = 0–5) ceramics using the traditional solid-state reaction method. The crystal structures, sintering behaviors, and dielectric response at microwave and terahertz frequencies were investigated. XRD results indicate that all the diffraction peaks were attributed to LaPO4, and no secondary phase was observed. Rietveld refinement was conducted to analyze the variation of the crystal structure of LaPO4-x wt.% LiF. SEM indicates that the addition of LiF significantly decreased the grain size while increasing the apparent density of the ceramics. When x = 3, the optimum microwave dielectric properties εr = 10.03, Q × f = 81,467 GHz, and τf = −43.79 ppm/°C were achieved in LaPO4-3 wt.% LiF ceramic at 750 °C. The infrared reflectance spectrum and terahertz time-domain spectroscopy were analyzed and compared with the dielectric properties measured at microwave frequency to investigate the inherent dielectric response. The findings indicate that the dielectric constant attributed to ionic displacement polarization and oxygen vacancy is an essential factor affecting dielectric loss. Moreover, it is worth noting that the LaPO4-3 wt.% LiF ceramic demonstrates excellent compatibility with silver powders, suggesting its immense potential as a dielectric material in LTCC applications. 38. Composition-structure-property relationships in CeZr1·14Bi0.045A0.045Mo4·5O18(A = Nb, Ta and Sb) microwave dielectric ceramics revealed by Raman, far-infrared and terahertz spectra

Abstract

Understanding composition-structure-property relationships is critical to developments and applications of novel microwave dielectric ceramics used in the field of wireless communications. Herein, a series of CeZr1·14Bi0.045A0.045Mo4·5O18(abbreviated as CZA, A = Nb, Ta and Sb) ceramics were prepared through a solid-state reaction method. Density and scanning electron microscope results revealed dense and homogeneous microstructures. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated the formation of solid solutions. Accordingly, the effects of extrinsic factors were negligible and thus composition-structure-property relationships were systematically investigated by the combination of the chemical bond theory, Raman spectroscopy, far-infrared (FIR) spectroscopy and terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) from an intrinsic perspective. Interestingly, the measured dielectric constants (εr) and quality factors (Q × f) are quite close to the extrapolated values from FIR and THz-TDS, and these values show a similar trend with varying components. In addition, Mo–O bonds play an important role in the coefficient of thermal expansion (α) and bond energy (E), and the composition dependent temperature coefficient of the resonance frequency (τf) can be well explained by variations of mean αand Eof Mo–O bonds.Typically, excellent properties of Q × f = 116,485 GHz (at 9.58 GHz), εr = 9.91 and τf = −19.20 ppm °C−1were achieved for the CZSb ceramic sintered at 700 °C. Notably, Q × fvalues of CZSb and CZTa ceramics are 6.13 and 4.16 times larger than that of the matrix, respectively. Ultra-high Q × f, low sintering temperatures (600 − 700 °C) and low εrmake them potential candidates for low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) applications.
