Makale, WOS:000914155800001, This study conducted a comprehensive experimental and numerical assessment to investigate the effect of plastic circular balls placed in the middle of a section of a reinforced concrete slab on strength, ductility, thermal, and acoustic performance. The ball diameter/slab thickness (D/H), grades of concrete, and longitudinal tensile reinforcement ratio (q) in the slab were selected as the main variables. The variation in thermal and acoustic performance depending upon the ball’s diameter was investigated as well. The results showed that the slab’s load-carrying capacity, ductility, and energy dissipation capacity did not differ if the D/H ratio did not exceed 0.4; however, significant decreases in these values were observed when the D/H ratio exceeded 0.4. Moreover, the increase in the concrete and reinforcement’s strength had a negative effect on the slab with a D/H ratio of 0.8. The experimental results revealed that balled slabs are 3.15 times superior with respect to thermal conductivity and provide 1.38 times more insulation to absorb sound compared to nonballed slabs. In the numerical study of the slabs’ thermal performance, the mean surface temperature and heat flux on the slab where the heat transfer takes place decreased as the ball diameter increased. As seen in acoustic models, the level at which the slabs absorbed sound varied depending upon both the diameter of the balls and the sound frequency.

In this paper, numerical solution for singularly perturbed problem with nonlocal boundary conditions is obtained. Finite difference method is used to discretize this problem on the Bakhvalov-Shishkin mesh. The some properties of exact solution are analyzed. The error is obtained first-order in the discrete maximum norm. Finally, an example is solved to show the advantages of the finite difference method.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, sınıf öğretmenlerinin yazma güçlüğüne ilişkin görüşlerini belirlemektir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgubilim kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu ilkokullarda görev yapan 33 sınıf öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma verileri sınıf öğretmenlerinden, elektronik ortamda, oluşturulan açık uçlu sorularla toplanmıştır. Öğretmenlerden elde edilen veriler betimsel analiz tekniği ile incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda elde edilen veriler araştırmacı tarafından kodlanmış ve temalara ayrılarak, sınıf eğitimi alanında doktora yapan bir araştırmacının ve bir sınıf öğretmeninin görüşüne sunulmuştur. Güvenirlik Miles ve Huberman tarafından geliştirilen formülle hesaplanmıştır. Değerlendiriciler arası güvenirlik 0.83 olarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre öğretmenlerin yazma güçlüğünün tanımı ve içeriği hakkında yeterli bilgiye sahip olmadıkları, yazma güçlüğü gösteren öğrencilerin benzer harflerde sorun yaşadıkları, yazma güçlüğünün nedenlerinin farklılık gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca sınıf içi ve sınıf dışı çalışmaların yazının daha çok mekanik yönüne yönelik olduğu, yazma güçlüğü gösteren öğrencilerin aileleri ve akranları ile olan iletişimlerinin genellikle iyi düzeyde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Son olarak öğretmenler pandemi sürecinin yazı çalışmalarını olumsuz yönde etkilediğini ve bu konuda desteğe ihtiyaç duyduklarını belirtmişlerdir.

In this paper, the differential transformation (DTM) and the Adomian decomposition (ADM) methods are proposed for solving fourth order eigenvalue problem. This fourth order eigenvalue problem has nonstrongly regular boundary conditions. This the fourth order problem has been examined for p(t) = t, B = 0, a = 0,01 where p(t) ≠ 0 is a complex valued and a ≠ 0 The differential transformation and the Adomian decomposition methods are briefly described. An approximate solution is obtained by performing seven iterations with the Adomian decomposition method. The same number of iterations have been made in the differential transformation method. The approximation results obtained by both methods have been compared with each other. These data have been presented in table. The ADM and the DTM approximation solutions have been shown by plotting in Figure 1. Here, the approaches obtained by using the two methods are found to be in high agreement. Consequently, highly accurate approximate solutions of fourth order eigenvalue problem are obtained. Such good results also revealed that the Adomian decomposition and the differential transformation methods are fast, economical and motivating. The exact solution of the fourth order eigenvalue problem for nonstrongly regular can not be found in the literature. Therefore, this study will give an important idea to determine approximate solution behavior of this fourth order problem.

Introduction Healthcare workers have a high risk of cross-infection during the care of Covid-19 cases. Personal protective equipment can reduce the risk. However, healthcare workers must be trained for the proper use of personal protective equipment to decrease exposure risk. This study aimed to investigate whether videos available on YouTube, presenting procedures of donning and doffing personal protective equipment, can be a useful learning resource for healthcare workers. Methods A search of YouTube was conducted using the keywords “Covid-19, personal protective equipment, donning, doffing”. Two investigators reviewed each video and collected the basic video information. Total videos were assessed independently as educationally useful and non-useful categories using a valid tool. The relationship of each video's usefulness with viewers’ preferences and the upload source were analyzed. Results A total of 300 videos were assessed; 66 (22%) fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Total video scores of educationally useful videos were higher than non-useful ones; the differences were significant. Healthcare/government agencies and hospitals mostly created educationally useful videos, e-learning platforms, and individuals mainly created non-useful videos. Significant correlations were observed between the video's usefulness and the total view and views per day. Conclusions During a pandemic, YouTube might be a resource for learning donning and doffing of personal protective equipment for healthcare workers if an appropriate selection process applied for determining educationally useful videos.

© 2022The study aims to evaluate 16 stadiums having different façade features in a comparative manner from a perceptual point of view. Therefore, the 16 stadiums constructed between 2011 and 2021 in Turkey were classified according to their facade and roof, shell forms and shell colors. The semantic differentiation scale consisting of adjective pairs of likability, complexity, impressiveness, familiarity and environmental compatibility that were found valid and reliable in previous studies was used to evaluate the selected stadiums. The means and standard deviations values were determined. Thereafter, the One-Way Analysis of Variance method was used in order to examine the impact of variables like gender and profession. The study concluded that stadiums with a circular shape and a neutral color whose covers are separete from façade, are more popular and evaluated more positively. Besides, women have a more negative approach than men and architects have a more positive approach than lay-persons (not-architect).

Aortic coarctation is among the congenita heart disease which can easily be diagnosed in infancy and childhood by means of a deliberate physical examination and echocardiography. Children without a prompt diagnosis are represented with several complications that depend on the severity of coarctation. It is of vital importance to perform stent implantation, balloon dilatation or surgical repair as soon after the diagnosis as possible since severe complications may emerge in aortic coarctation. The present report delineates the case of a 6-year old patient who was presented with fever and abdominal pain, and diagnosed by echocardiography to have aortic coarctation., Aort koarktasyonu dikkatli bir fizik muayene ve ekokardiyografi ile bebeklik ve çocukluk çağında kolayca tanı konulabilen doğumsal kalp hastalıklarından biridir. Erken tanı alamayan hastalar koarktasyonunun şiddetine bağlı olarak bebeklik, çocukluk ve erişkin dönemde çeşitli komplikasyonlar ile başvururlar. Aort koarktasyonu olan vaklarda ağır komplikasyonlar gelişebileceği için aort koarktasyonu teşhis edilir edilmez vakaların yaşına ve koarktasyonun durumuna göre stent implantasyonu, balon dilatasyonu veya cerrahi onarım yapılması hayati önem taşımaktadır. Biz burada ateş ve karın ağrısı ile müracaat eden ve yapılan ekokardiyografide aort koarktasyonu saptanan 6 yaşında bir hastayı sunduk.

Bioadhesive films were fabricated with hydrophilic polymers, hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), and xanthan gum (XG) and dried in the incubator. Textural, swelling, and bioadhesive properties, physicochemical and in vitro release characteristics, and antifungal activities of bioadhesive films were evaluated. Bioadhesive films significantly extended nystatin release by prolonging retention time of the target area formulation while rapidly releasing hydrocortisone acetate and lidocaine HCl, reducing drug administration. The polymer type affected bioadhesion strength and erosion ratio, and XG formulations had more polymer suitability. Consequently, XT-O2 formulation that was prepared with xanthan gum and tween 80, was best for its highest antifungal film activity (20.00 ± 0.07 mm), released nystatin (44.296% ± 1.695), and lowest erosion matrix (36.719% ± 0.249). The selected formulation can be used for compatibility, stability and in vivo studies targeted oral candidiasis infections. Graphical Abstract: [Figure not available: see fulltext.]

Sürdürülebilir kalkınma yerel dinamiklerin harekete geçirilmesi ile toplumun sosyal, kültürel ve ekonomik olarak iyileşmesini amaçlar. Bu ancak, çevresel değerlerin korunması ve ekonomik kalkınma arasındaki uzlaşma ile gerçekleşebilir. Bu çalışma, Cittaslow ve SlowFood hareketinin, bir yerel kalkınma modeli olabileceği fikrini tartışmak amacı ile hazırlanmış olup Niksar ilçesini kapsamaktadır. Çalışmada Niksar’ın Cittaslow’a ait 72 kriter açısından değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır. Değerlendirmelere sonucunda; 72 kriterin 22 tanesini sağlamayıp, 50 âdetinde ise plan ve proje bulunmaktadır. Niksar İlçesi’nin üyelik potansiyelinin pozitif olduğu tespit edilmiştir. İkinci olarak Niksar’da yaşayan kişilerin Cittaslow algılarını ve desteklemeye dair görüşlerini belirlemek için 88 kişiyle anket yapılmıştır. Verilere faktör analizi, anova ve t testi uygulanmıştır. Analiz sonucunda Niksar’ın Cittaslow unvanına sahip olmasını isteyenlerin ve Cittaslow kavramını bilme oranının yüksek olduğunu, Niksar’da yerel kalkınmanın turizm ve yerel değerlerin tanıtımı ile sağlanacağı fikri belirlenmiştir., Sustainable development aims to improve the society socially, culturally and economically by activating local dynamics. This can only be achieved through a compromise between environmental protection and economic development. This study was prepared to discuss the idea that Cittaslow and SlowFood movement could be a model of local development and covers Niksar district. In the study, Niksar was evaluated in terms of 72 criteria belonging to Cittaslow. As a result of the evaluations; It does not meet 22 of 72 criteria, and there are plans and projects in 50 of them. It has been determined that the membership potential of Niksar District is positive. Secondly, a survey was conducted with 88 people in order to determine the perceptions of the people living in Niksar on the Cittaslow and their views on support. Factor analysis, anova and t test were applied to the data. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that those who want Niksar to have the title of Cittaslow and have a high rate of knowing the concept of Cittaslow, and that local development in Niksar will be achieved through the promotion of tourism and local values.

The Covid 19 pandemic affected the education system, causing distance-learning in most parts of the world. Thanks to the rapid vaccination, face-to-face instruction started again, university students returned to colleges, and dormitories were again used. To respond to the changing living conditions and ensure a healthy indoor environment, strategies for pandemic-resistant and flexible design of dormitories have been discussed, which is the focus of this article. To achieve this goal, state dormitories in Turkey, their current condition, and functional/ technical solutions were studied in detail using a four-stage methodology developed with this study, and their adaptation potential for new flexible and pandemic-resistant designs in the post-pandemic world was discussed. The research results showed that the case dormitory is unlikely to adapt to pandemic conditions in terms of pandemic resilience, flexibility, and Turkey Covid-19 Guidelines and that the methodology has the potential to be applicable to the evaluation of similar buildings.

In this study, earthquake performance of the structures was tested which were modeled according to the minimum criteria of simplified analysis approach proposed in TBEC-2019. For this purpose, 144 reinforced-concrete building models were designed according to parameters such as earthquake design class, building height (number of storey), number of spans, soil type and three different simplified formulas suggested in the code. The level of structural performance of buildings models was determined by the linear (L) and nonlinear performance analysis (NL) methods that given in TBEC-2019. The base shear force, top displacements and over-strength factor (Ω) of each structural model were obtained, and performance analysis was performed by comparatively. As a result of the structural analyses, it was seen that some of the buildings model designed according to minimum column sectional criteria given in simplified methods could not meet the suggested seismic performance level. While the number of structural models that provide the controlled damage (CD) level in the L analysis method is 44 (30.55%), it is 107 (74.3%) in the NL analysis method. The insufficient performance was obtained in both L and NL methods in models which have over-strength values below 3. It has been observed that multi-criteria of building performance are not met with the weakening of local soil conditions. It was also seen that the L method chosen in the performance analysis gave more conservative results with this study.

The aim of this research is to find out how activity-based digital storytelling affects the writing and digital storytelling-making skills of gifted students. In this research, which is designed as an action research, the researcher was the practitioner and also the conductor of the research. The research was conducted in the first semester of the 2018-2019 academic year in the Science and Art Center, where talented students were studying. The study group consists of 7 gifted third-grade students who continue the support education program. The implementation of the action plan took 10 weeks. The data were collected by Student Information Form, 6 + 1 Analytical Writing and Evaluation Scale, Digital Storytelling Evaluation Rubric, interview forms, researcher and student diary. According to the results of the study, the action plan applied improved the writing skills of the students. It was observed that the writing skills of the students improved according to the scores of the students during the pre-evaluation and final evaluation and application process. It was seen that the digital story formation skills of the students improved during the pre-evaluation and final evaluation and application process. According to the opinions of the students, it was determined that with the activity-based digital storytelling activities, the students learned how to write the text types, they liked writing and they found the studies entertaining and these studies improved their writing skills. In addition, it was that writing activities make writing easier, develop imagination, and digital storytelling studies also helped to see and correct errors in writing, and to write more attentive and carefully. In this study, in which action research was used, as the results are not generalized, the activity-based digital storytelling studies can be applied with different methods and the results can be investigated. Additionally, application oriented research can be increased to improve the writing skills of gifted students. Article visualizations

In this study, the numerical integration method is performed for approximate solution of the singularly perturbed Volterra integro-differential equations. Firstly, it starts with the finite difference method on the uniform mesh points, then the trapezoidal method is used for integrals. The system of equations obtained here is solved with the Thomas algorithm. An example is presented that demonstrates the accuracy and economy of the proposed method

Background- Sepsis remains a common cause of death. Involving in important cellular processes, the cereblon (CRBN) protein plays a role in sepsis. This study aimed to show the CRBN protein expression and its effects on the patients in the intensive care unit. Methods- Samples were taken by deep tracheal aspiration from patients. The presence of CRBN was pathologically investigated by using immunohistochemical tests and polyclonal antibodies against CRBN. The relationship between gender, sepsis, steroid, survival, and the presence of CRBN was examined. Results- Respiratory and neurologic diseases were the most common reasons for admission. Acinetobacter was the most frequent microorganism. In patients with more than normal inflammatory cells, we observed a negative correlation between CRBN expression and PNL rate (p = 0.031). In patients with CRBN, there was no correlation between steroid and mortality, APACHE/Glasgow score, length of stay in hospital and ICU. Conclusion- Although the prognosis in sepsis is better in CRBN-deficiency animals, the presence of CRBN in humans does not affect it. The more we saw inflammatory cells in aspiration material, the less there was a CRBN. The response to steroids, an immunomodulator, did not change with the presence of the immunomodulator target molecule, CRBN. This requires us to reconsider using immunomodulators in the treatment of sepsis.

Oil yield and the properties of oil can be improved with various enzymatic pre-treatments before obtaining oil from oilseeds by cold-press extraction. A commercial mixture of pectolytic enzymes was used in this study. In addition, apple seed meal as a source of β-glucosidase enzyme and citric acid were applied to oilseeds (pumpkin, terebinth and flaxseed) as pre-treatments. The results were evaluated by comparing the effects of the pre-treatments on oil yield and properties. Enzyme preparate could increase the oil yield of pumpkin seeds (~300%) and flaxseed (151%). Significant increases in the phenolic contents of terebinth (from 91.67 to 319.33 mg GAE/kg) and flaxseed oils (from 12.03 to 40.47 mg GAE/kg) were achieved by citric acid and enzymatic pre-treatments. These two pre-treatments were also effective in terms of peroxide formation and oxidative stability in terebinth oil. With the help of the pre-treatments applied to oilseeds it was possible to increase the transition of phenolics from seeds to oil for terebinth oil with increase ratios of 245% for citric acid, 248% for the enzymatic process compared to the control.

A commercial enzyme preparation consisting of pectolytic, cellulotic and hemicellulotic enzymes was applied to the oil extraction by cold pressing from apricot kernel, flaxseed and grape seed. The effects of enzyme pre-treatment varied depending on the different oil seed used as raw material. Although the increase in free fatty acidity can be considered as a negative effect (from 0.37 to 0.52), the decrease in peroxide number andp-anisidine values, increase in oil yield (22.75%), higher levels of total carotenoids and tocopherols, as well as a remarkable increase in phenolic content (x1.68) and radical scavenging effect (including hydrophilic and lipophilic-induced and total antioxidant capacity) showed that the use of enzyme application in the cold pressing of apricot kernel oil would be beneficial. Many of these positive results could not be achieved in the pressing of flaxseed or grape seed oils under the same conditions. A high negative correlation (r=-92.2) was found betweenp-anisidine value and δ-tocopherol for grapeseed oil.Hydrophilicandlipophilicantioxidant capacity, total phenolics, and total carotenoids negatively correlated well (r values above 80) with peroxide values for apricot seed oil. Correlation results showed that carotenoids play an important role in the oxidative stability of the oils, where it was much more evident for apricot seed oil (r=-97.5). Los efectos del pretratamiento enzimático variaron dependiendo de las diferentes semillas oleaginosas como materia prima. Aunque el aumento de la acidez libre puede considerarse como un efecto negativo (de 0,37 a 0,52), la disminución del valor de peróxidos y dep-anisidina, el aumento del rendimiento de aceite (22,75%), niveles más altos de carotenoides totales y tocoferoles, además de un aumento notable en el contenido de fenoles (x1.68) y el efecto captador de radicales (incluida la capacidad antioxidante total e inducida por hidrófilos y lipófilos) mostraron que la aplicación de enzimas en el prensado en frío del aceite de hueso de albaricoque resulta beneficioso. Muchos de estos resultados positivos no se pudieron lograr al prensar los aceites de semillas de linaza y uva, en las mismas condiciones. Se encontró una alta correlación negativa (r = -92.2) entre el valor dep-anisidina y el δ-tocoferol para el aceite de semilla de uva. La capacidad antioxidante hidrófila y lipófila, los fenoles totales y carotenoides totales se correlacionaron negativamente bien (valores de r por encima de 80) con los valores de peróxido para el aceite de semilla de albaricoque. Los resultados de correlación mostraron que los carotenoides juegan un papel importante en la estabilidad oxidativa de los aceites, mucho más evidente para el aceite de hueso de albaricoque (r = -97,5).
