- Abstract
Reduction in the running resistance of an automobile, especially, that in the aerodynamic drag, is important for realizing carbon neutrality. However, a vehicle with low aerodynamic drag is known to have poor crosswind stability against the yaw-angle variation of the incoming flow. Sound understanding of the unsteady aerodynamic characteristic is crucial to ensure the steering stability in crosswind conditions. In this study, the unsteady flow around the vehicles subjected to yaw-angle fluctuation of incoming flow is investigated by Large Eddy Simulation, with a particular emphasis placed on the phase delay in the fluctuations in the surface pressure and those in the resulting side force acting on the vehicle.
