Mexico is a large country with a great variety of climates. A previous study (2009) evaluated skin prick test results (SPT) in different regions. In this study, we compare previous sensitization patterns from 14y ago with current ones and compare them between different climatological zones.Methods: Mexican allergists were asked to share their last 100 SPT results in patients with respiratory allergy. Clinics were grouped in (semi)humid vs (semi)dry zones. Results were analyzed nationwide and compared to the 2009 results, calculating odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs), with p < 0.05 as cut-off. Similarly, we compared (semi)humid versus dry zones.Results: We collected 2915 SPT results from 28 clinics (19 cities). Dermatophagoides was the most frequently sensitizing allergen. There was a significant increase in SPT positivity from 2009 to 2023 in both in- and outdoor aeroallergens (OR 1.26– 2.65, 95% CI from 1.06– 1.50 to 1.99– 3.52). Comparing dry-humid zones, sensitization to pollen from Oleaceae, Fagaceae (p < 0.0001 all) and most weeds is more frequent in humid zones, as are Dermatophagoides and cockroach (both p < 0.0001). Eucalyptus, mesquite, and all grass pollen sensitizations predominate in dry zones (p < 0.05– 0.0001). There are no differences in sensitization to cat or dog between zones.Conclusion: We found a general increase in SPT sensitization over the past fourteen years, suggesting that this is probably not only due to climate change. The different sensitization profile throughout the country was mainly related to humidity. The van der Waals material hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) has emerged as a promising candidate for hosting room temperature single-photon emitters (SPEs) for next-generation quantum technologies. However, the requirement of a high temperature anneal (850 °C or higher) to activate the SPEs in hBN makes it difficult to integrate into hybrid structures that cannot tolerate such temperatures, including all silicon-based circuits. In this work, we present a method to deterministically activate quantum emitters in multilayered hBN on a process substrate, followed by a zero thermal budget transfer to a target substrate. This technique does not lead to any degradation or loss of photon purity in the hBN emitters and provides a procedure for combining high-purity emitters with other exciting photonic, magnetic, or electrical properties to explore new physical phenomena. The ability to transfer hBN emitters onto arbitrary substrates creates new technological possibilities to incorporate these quantum photonic properties into photonic integrated circuits and plasmonic devices.

El modelo cubano de formación continua pone de manifiesto la necesidad de establecer relaciones estables de cooperación entre la universidad y los organismos empleadores en todas las etapas de la formación, para lograr una formación y desarrollo del profesional que garantice una inserción exitosa de los egresados al mundo del trabajo y su actualización permanente. A su vez, el seguimiento a egresados deviene recurso pedagógico capaz de contribuir a la formación continua del profesional y estrechar los lazos de cooperación. En este sentido, se indaga en los rasgos que caracterizan al seguimiento a egresados como un proceso formativo a través de la sistematización teórica, el análisis y crítica de fuentes y el método de deducción genética. Se concibe el seguimiento al egresado como una actividad pedagógica, organizada y dirigida conscientemente desde una institución educativa, con la cooperación de las entidades empleadorasen aras de favorecer la continuidad del proceso formativo. Al respecto, los sujetos participantes deben adoptar una actitud consciente y crítica de sus respectivos papeles en el proceso, así como un alto grado de compromiso en el movimiento de transformación educativa.

Rabbit meat production faces challenges due to the prevalence of gastrointestinal diseases in rabbits, exacerbated by restrictions on antibiotic use in European animal production. Marine macroalgae, rich in bioactive compounds such as soluble polysaccharides, represent promising solutions to this problem. However, research on the effects of macroalgae and the underlying mechanisms in rabbits is limited, especially in commercial settings. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of Saccharina latissima (dehydrated) and Ulva lactuca (dehydrated and hydrolyzed extract) on rabbit on growth performance and gut health in a commercial farm context. A total of 96 litters (8 rabbits/litter) of crossbred rabbits weaned at 33 days of age were randomly assigned to 4 experimental groups (control, Saccharina latissima dehydrated, Ulva lactuca dehydrated and Ulva lactuca hydrolyzed extract; 24 replicates/treatment) and monitored from weaning to slaughter at 61 days of age. The key indicators of gut health were assessed 14 days post-weaning by counting coccidia, isolating specific microflora and examining histological samples. Additionally, the relevant intestinal markers (microbiome composition, mucin content and gene expression related to immune response and tight junction proteins) were determined in order to elucidate the potential mechanisms involved. The inclusion of macroalgae in the diet did not influence growth performance of the animals. S. latissima had a positive effect in reducing coccidia counts (p = 0.10) and improving mucosal morphology (p < 0.001), which can possibly be attributed to modulation of the microbiota and improved mucosal functionality. Ulva lactuca had a favorable effect on gut tight junction proteins (p < 0.001), enhancing intestinal barrier function. These findings suggest the potential of macroalgae to modify the intestinal microbiome by reducing the presence of inflammatory bacteria. Further research is warranted to elucidate the mechanisms involved and optimize macroalgae supplementation in rabbit nutrition for enhanced gut health.

Introduction: This secondary study focuses on the question: What are the oral manifestations described in patients with COVID-19? Objective: The aim of this review is to characterize oral manifestations reported in research on patients with COVID-19. Methods: A systematic review was conducted focusing on COVID-19 oral manifestations. Research articles involving COVID-19 patients describing at least one oral manifestation were included. The search strategy was executed in databases such as Pubmed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Detailed information on oral manifestations during the disease was extracted. The review used the STROBE tool to assess the risk of bias (RoB) and performed a descriptive data analysis. Results: After analyzing 207 articles and eliminating duplicates, 10 studies were selected, revealing data from 2878 patients. The most common oral manifestations were changes in oral mucosa (21.1%), xerostomia (19.4%), and loss of taste (12.9%). Others, such as ulcers or blisters (5.0%), had lower incidence (

ABSTRACTSerratia marcescens is an opportunistic pathogen historically associated with sudden outbreaks in intensive care units (ICUs) and the spread of carbapenem-resistant genes. However, the ecology of S. marcescens populations in the hospital ecosystem remains largely unknown. We combined epidemiological information of 1,432 Serratia spp. isolates collected from sinks of a large ICU that underwent demographic and operational changes (2019–2021) and 99 non-redundant outbreak/non-outbreak isolates from the same hospital (2003–2019) with 165 genomic data. These genomes were grouped into clades (1–4) and subclades (A and B) associated with distinct species: Serratia nematodiphila (1A), S. marcescens (1B), Serratia bockelmannii (2A), Serratia ureilytica (2B), S. marcescens/Serratia nevei (3), and S. nevei (4A and 4B). They may be classified into an S. marcescens complex (SMC) due to the similarity between/within subclades (average nucleotide identity >95%–98%), with clades 3 and 4 predominating in our study and publicly available databases. Chromosomal AmpC β-lactamase with unusual basal-like expression and prodigiosin-lacking species contrasted classical features of Serratia. We found persistent and coexisting clones in sinks of subclades 4A (ST92 and ST490) and 4B (ST424), clonally related to outbreak isolates carrying blaVIM-1 or blaOXA-48 on prevalent IncL/pB77-CPsm plasmids from our hospital since 2017. The distribution of SMC populations in ICU sinks and patients reflects how Serratia species acquire, maintain, and enable plasmid evolution in both “source” (permanent, sinks) and “sink” (transient, patients) hospital patches. The results contribute to understanding how water sinks serve as reservoirs of Enterobacterales clones and plasmids that enable the persistence of carbapenemase genes in healthcare settings, potentially leading to outbreaks and/or hospital-acquired infections.IMPORTANCEThe “hospital environment,” including sinks and surfaces, is increasingly recognized as a reservoir for bacterial species, clones, and plasmids of high epidemiological concern. Available studies on Serratia epidemiology have focused mainly on outbreaks of multidrug-resistant species, overlooking local longitudinal analyses necessary for understanding the dynamics of opportunistic pathogens and antibiotic-resistant genes within the hospital setting. This long-term genomic comparative analysis of Serratia isolated from the ICU environment with isolates causing nosocomial infections and/or outbreaks within the same hospital revealed the coexistence and persistence of Serratia populations in water reservoirs. Moreover, predominant sink strains may acquire highly conserved and widely distributed plasmids carrying carbapenemase genes, such as the prevalent IncL-pB77-CPsm (pOXA48), persisting in ICU sinks for years. The work highlights the relevance of ICU environmental reservoirs in the endemicity of certain opportunistic pathogens and resistance mechanisms mainly confined to hospitals.

Introduction: COVID-19 continues to drive research aimed at elucidating the disease's behavior and clinical aspects for improved diagnosis. Objective: To describe oral manifestations reported through a survey by dentate and denture-wearing Cuban individuals hospitalized due to confirmed COVID-19 infection. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted through a survey, involving Cuban individuals aged 18 years and above, confirmed COVID-19 positive by PCR. Exclusions encompassed smokers, alcoholics, regular medication users, those with poor oral hygiene, and individuals with pre-existing oral manifestations. A questionnaire was administered to over a thousand individuals, of which 264 met the criteria. Variables related to COVID-19 infection and oral hygiene were assessed. Data were processed using SPSS, adhering to ethical principles. Results: The study comprised 264 participants with an average age of 39.96 years. Xerostomia emerged as the most prevalent oral manifestation (40.2%), followed by mandibular pain, TMJ, or bone pain (18.9%), and non-dental mouth pain (12.5%). Xerostomia was more prevalent in the 35 to 39 age group, while mandibular pain predominated in the 50 to 54 age group. No statistically significant evidence was found for dentate individuals or denture wearers, but significance was observed for those requiring hospitalization, exhibiting painless tongue lesions, single ulcers, and painful tongue lesions. Conclusions: Xerostomia was the most prevalent oral manifestation, followed by mandibular pain, TMJ or bone pain, and non-dental mouth pain. A statistically significant association was noted between the need for hospitalization and certain oral manifestations. The use of dentures was not significantly related to the studied manifestations.

Electric vehicles and photovoltaic power stations can play an important role in replacing fossil fuels. This article presents a case study on the placement of charging stations powered by photovoltaic energy along an important highway in Brazil. A demand model was adopted to elaborate three scenarios for 2030 with different participation levels of electric vehicles in the Brazilian market. An optimized allocation model was used to derive the location and number of charging stations required to meet the charging demand. The results provided a list of adequate locations for installing the charging stations and offered insights into the consumed electricity and greenhouse gas emissions that could be mitigated by these actions. A financial analysis was conducted, and it was determined that the charging costs, based on the Internal Rate of Return calculation, were 10%. These costs were compared to the fueling costs of other traditional vehicles. The results showed that the costs can be 72% lower than the cost of refueling current conventional automobiles. The results of this study can serve as a reference in the public policy debate, as well as for investors in fast charging stations.

Abstract Introduction There have been no prior trials directly comparing the efficacy of different calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) antagonists for migraine prevention. Reported are the results from the first head-to-head study of two CGRP antagonists, galcanezumab (monoclonal antibody) versus rimegepant (gepant), for the prevention of episodic migraine. Methods In this 3-month, double-blind, double-dummy study, participants were randomized (1:1) to subcutaneous (SC) galcanezumab 120 mg per month (after a 240 mg loading dose) and a placebo oral disintegrating tablet (ODT) every other day (q.o.d.) or to rimegepant 75 mg ODT q.o.d. and a monthly SC placebo. The primary endpoint was the proportion of participants with a ≥ 50% reduction in migraine headache days per month from baseline across the 3-month double-blind treatment period. Key secondary endpoints were overall mean change from baseline in: migraine headache days per month across 3 months and at month 3, 2, and 1; migraine headache days per month with acute migraine medication use; Migraine-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire Role Function-Restrictive domain score at month 3; and a ≥ 75% and 100% reduction from baseline in migraine headache days per month across 3 months. Results Of 580 randomized participants (galcanezumab: 287, rimegepant: 293; mean age: 42 years), 83% were female and 81% Caucasian. Galcanezumab was not superior to rimegepant in achieving a ≥ 50% reduction from baseline in migraine headache days per month (62% versus 61% respectively; P = 0.70). Given the pre-specified multiple testing procedure, key secondary endpoints cannot be considered statistically significant. Overall, treatment-emergent adverse events were reported by 21% of participants, with no significant differences between study intervention groups. Conclusions Galcanezumab was not superior to rimegepant for the primary endpoint; however, both interventions demonstrated efficacy as preventive treatments in participants with episodic migraine. The efficacy and safety profiles observed in galcanezumab-treated participants were consistent with previous studies. Trial registration ClinTrials.gov—NCT05127486 (I5Q-MC-CGBD).

La demanda de los circuitos de distribución primaria de la provincia de Camagüey se obtiene con medición inteligente en periodos de 15 minutos, que en conjunto con el sistema de control digital de interrupciones y conmutaciones en la red, generan grandes volúmenes de conjuntos de datos, por lo que el objetivo de este trabajo fue la selección del día típico de carga en términos de la potencia aparente de Buchholz, para el rango de fechas seleccionado en cada circuito de distribución a partir de la minería de datos, mediante un método estadístico implementado en una aplicación web elaborada en Python capaz de integrarse al sistema SCADA ION Enterprise, lo que permitió el cálculo de pérdidas técnicas para la optimización de las redes y la predicción de carga real que demanda el sistema con el uso de las teorías modernas de la potencia para los sistemas desbalanceados y asimétricos.

Dentro del corpus de narrativas escritas por hijas e hijos de militantes argentinos de los 70, los textos que recuperan la infancia ocupan un lugar relevante, en particular, aquellos en los que la recuperación de la memoria del pasado reciente ligado con la última dictadura cívico-militar (1976-1983) se realiza a través de la construcción de una voz y de una mirada infantiles. En este artículo, analizo la novela autobiográfica Pequeños combatientes (2013) de Raquel Robles para indagar los modos en que se reconfigura el recuerdo a través de la construcción de una narradora niña que, desde una mirada retrospectiva, cuenta el pasaje de la niñez a la adolescencia. Ese pasaje implica una toma de conciencia en torno a la desaparición de los padres. En especial, presto atención a las funciones que cumplen en el relato la lectura y la escritura en cuanto prácticas que permiten a la niña asimilar la desaparición de los padres y la desarticulación del orden familiar.

Con el auge de las tecnologías, el acceso a la información, las técnicas de dirección y la resultante globalización de los mercados, no es posible para una entidad, subsistir sin conocer el entorno en el que se desenvuelve y las condiciones propias en las que se encuentra la interacción con los proveedores y suministradores. En efecto, las legislaciones cubanas aprobadas recientemente, comprometen al país cada vez más con el desarrollo del sector empresarial, enmarcados en la forma de organización socio-económica actual, en lo que inciden varios factores que propician la aplicación de técnicas y herramientas para obtener una mejora continua en los servicios y productos que se ofertan. El objetivo del artículo es fundamentar teóricamente la importancia del sistema de inteligencia de mercadotecnia en el sector empresarial cubano. Para ello se aplicó la revisión bibliográfica, a partir de la que se constata la necesidad de rediseñar el sistema de inteligencia de mercadotecnia de la Empresa Comercializadora y de Servicios de Productos Universales Las Tunas. Se utilizan como métodos y técnicas de investigación los siguientes: analítico-sintético, hipotético-deductivo, sistémico-estructural-funcional, observación científica, encuesta, entrevista y revisión documental. El empleo de estas herramientas metodológicas permite darle un carácter científico y un análisis integrado a la investigación; constituye un apoyo para gestionar la información del micro entorno en que se desenvuelve la entidad de forma eficiente.

This paper estimates efficiency measures for the banking system in Chile for the period 2000-2019. In contrast to previous studies, we use input-distance functions, introduce the nonparametric slack-based model, and choose the intermediate inputs approach in determining inputs and outputs. Our results suggest that the Chilean system has achieved relatively high levels of efficiency, although with no significant variation over the sample period. Ownership (government, foreign and public) and size had a positive impact on efficiency. On average, mergers and acquisitions seem to have targeted highly efficient banks in order to improve the overall efficiency of the controlling institution in the short run. Other sources of efficiency gains could be an increase in bond funding or a reduction in expenses and capital holdings. The latter could be induced by deepening the local derivatives market.

Emerging economies have specific characteristics that condition the use of intellectual capital. The economic crisis has had important consequences for emerging countries. The investments in intellectual capital could slow down this influence. This paper uses a new model for assessing the effects of an investment in intellectual capital on the performance of Russian companies in a period of crisis. The model is applied in Russian companies with data from 1,096 companies for the period 2004–2014 and 12,056 observations were made. The panel data included only active companies (from January 2004) listed with annual reports and were obtained from Bureau Van Dijk’s Ruslana database. Each company’s data cover at least seven years. The study used hierarchical linear models to unravel the effect of intellectual capital on value-added. The results show that investments in structural capital and relational capital have a direct effect on the stock of intellectual capital and generates value. Se describió la implementación y los resultados de una metodología desarrollada con estudiantes de medicina que cursan el segundo año en la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de Holguín, Filial Moa por insuficientes experiencias y habilidades en la investigación. La experiencia se desarrolló con la metodología de Aprendizaje Basado en Investigación (ABI) implementada en el primer semestre en la asignatura Prevención de Salud. Los resultados demostraron que los estudiantes obtuvieron niveles de desempeño sobresalientes, de acuerdo con las calificaciones obtenidas, lo que muestra una adecuada aplicación de la metodología en este tipo de programas de formación académica, que implica el desarrollo del ámbito investigativo en su quehacer profesional.

Fundamento: los Programas de Formación y Especialización del Médico Integral Comunitario en Venezuela requieren de docentes con una sólida preparación pedagógica, capaces de organizar y dirigir con calidad el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje.Objetivo: diseñar tareas docentes que, desde el curso de Pedagogía básica, favorezcan el proceder didáctico-metodológico de los docentes que participan en la formación y especialización de médicos en el contexto de la Misión Médica Cubana en Venezuela. Métodos: se realizó una investigación descriptiva, de corte pedagógico. Se aplicaron métodos del nivel teórico y empírico: el analítico-sintético, inductivo-deductivo, histórico-lógico, entrevista grupal, la observación participante y el análisis documental. La muestra se seleccionó de manera intencional, la conformaron los 35 docentes que participaron en los cursos de pedagogía impartidos en el 2021, en el Estado La Guaira.Resultados: se diseñaron guías de estudio con nuevas tareas docentes, estructuradas a partir del problema profesional, el objetivo y el tema de estudio. Fueron elaboradas actividades evaluativas que propiciaron una mejor interacción de los docentes con las unidades curriculares de los diferentes años académicos y con los educandos en los escenarios asistenciales. Las tareas docentes incidieron positivamente en los conocimientos pedagógicos adquiridos por los estudiantes, comprobado en el predominio de los niveles medio y alto de las dimensiones evaluadas y la observación de una adecuada asimilación de los contenidos, independencia cognoscitiva y la aplicación de los conocimientos a nuevas situaciones de la práctica pedagógica.Conclusiones: las tareas docentes incluidas en el Programa de Pedagogía básica contribuyeron al perfeccionamiento didáctico metodológico de los docentes.

Margaritasite is a mineral compound discovered in the early 1980s in Chihuahua, Mexico. It is a natural cesium uranyl vanadate found only, so far, in the Margaritas mine of the Peña Blanca highlands. In this work, a thorough characterization of the aforementioned mineral is presented. The portfolio of the techniques employed includes high-resolution X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy in selected area electron diffraction (SAED) mode, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). After extensive data analysis and modeling, new information on the mineral has been retrieved. Its phase composition is margaritasite–carnotite: a solid solution of cesium and potassium uranyl vanadate [(Cs,K)2(UO2)2(VO4)2·nH2O], and margaritasite, which is practically pure cesium uranyl vanadate [Cs2(UO2)2(VO4)2·nH2O]. The crystal structure of both components presents the space group P 1 21/c 1. Yet, each phase has similar, but appreciably different, lattice parameters. The mineral has a lamellar tabular and prismatic morphology. SAED patterns confirm the crystal structure of margaritasite. XAS spectra of Cs, V, and U confirm the elemental composition, oxidation states, and interatomic distances of this structure. These findings are consistent with the presence of cesium in this unique mineral from the paragenesis point of view.

Objetivo: Diseñar un procedimiento que fortalezca el proceso de comercialización de los resultados de ciencia para una Entidad de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación, adscripta al Ministerio de Educación Superior. Métodos y técnicas: Se utilizó la revisión bibliográfica sistemática complementada por el análisis documental; se tuvo en cuenta para ello la documentación oficial de la entidad Biofísica Médica. El método de usuarios y el índice de satisfacción grupal permitieron validar la aplicabilidad de la propuesta. Objetivo: Diseñar un procedimiento que fortalezca el proceso de comercialización de los resultados de ciencia para una Entidad de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación, adscripta al Ministerio de Educación Superior. Métodos y técnicas: Se utilizó la revisión bibliográfica sistemática complementada por el análisis documental; se tuvo en cuenta para ello la documentación oficial de la entidad Biofísica Médica. El método de usuarios y el índice de satisfacción grupal permitieron validar la aplicabilidad de la propuesta. Principales resultados: Se diseñó un procedimiento para la comercialización de los resultados de ciencia e innovación, conformado por cuatro fases que se despliegan a su vez en cuatro etapas e interactúan de manera sistémica, permitiendo su operatividad y su potencial aplicación en situaciones concretas relacionadas con la negociación de productos y servicios derivados de la ciencia. Conclusiones: El diseño del procedimiento es coherente con lo establecido en el Sistema de Gestión de Gobierno orientado a la ciencia e innovación en Cuba, ya que potencia el impacto social y económico que debe tener el desarrollo de la ciencia en su vinculación con los diferentes actores económicos que coexisten hoy en el país.

Selenium is an essential trace element in human health. However, it has been considered a widespread selenium deficiency worldwide, although the recommended daily intake is very low (55 μg per day). Strategies have been implemented to comply with the recommended doses, for example, through bioavailable selenium such as selenoamino acids. Thus, this research aimed to elaborate on a beer-type fermented beverage produced with previously selenized Saccharomyces boulardii. For this, the yeast was selenized by adding a minimum inhibitory concentration of Na2SeO3 (74 ppm) to YPD media. Subsequently, barley must fermentations were carried out for 120 h. Kinetic parameters of the fermentation and physicochemical parameters and selenium content of the beverage were measured. The yeast accumulated up to 25.12 mg/g of dry cell. Furthermore, selenization affected the fermentation rate, but the beverage's physicochemical parameters were not different from those of the control. Due to the final concentration of selenium in the beverage (0.378 mg/kg), it is considered a process that confers advantages for the safe intake of selenium with bioavailable potential. In conclusion, fermented beverages enriched with organic selenium could be produced through cell selenization to produce functional beverages and food.

Abstract Aromatic L-Amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) deficiency is a rare neurometabolic disorder due to a homozygous or compound heterozygous pathogenic variant of the DDC gene, resulting in low synthesis of the biogenic amines dopamine, serotonin, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. Most patients had severe expression of the disease with global developmental delay, early hypotonia, movement disorders such as oculogyric crises, tremor, and dystonia. Oromandibular dystonia (OMD) is rarely recognized in patients with AADC deficiency. The aim of this study was to describe OMD in detail in 4 patients with AADC deficiency. OMD occurred in isolated form or in association with oculogyric crises, increasing the difficulty in care patients during the crises. The main form of OMD was tongue dystonia associated with mouth opening dystonia. AADC deficiency must be included in the list of genetic causes of OMD.

La infancia tiene un valor en sí misma y mucho que decir y hacer en la sociedad donde crece. Sin embargo, es evidente la necesidad de realizar una adecuada atención que parte desde sus principios generales. Muy a tono con los presupuestos planteados anteriormente nos hemos dado a la tarea de proponer acciones que contribuyan al mejoramiento de la atención a la diversidad educativa desde la práctica laboral investigativa que realiza el estudiante de la especialidad Logopedia en las distintas unidades docentes.

ABSTRACT Objectives: To evaluate the alternate use of flash glucose monitoring (FGM) with self-monitoring blood glucose (SMBG), in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Materials and methods: Two weeks of open FGM (P2), both preceded (P1) and followed by 2 weeks (P3) of SMBG with a blinded FGM system. Mean absolute relative difference (MARD) was calculated by (|FGMi − SMBGi|) / SMBGi, where it was a paired data sample. Results: In total, 34 patients were evaluated. Time in range (TIR) did not change between P1 and P2. In 12 patients (35.3%), TIR increased from 40% at P1 to 52% at P2 (p = 0.002) and in 22 (64.7%), TIR decreased or did not change. FGM use resulted in decreased % time spent in hypoglycemia (180 mg/dL) (44.5% to 51%; p = 0.046) with no significant change in % TIR. The proportion of patients who reached sensor-estimated glycated hemoglobin (eA1c) < 7% decreased from 23.5% at P1 to 12.9% at P2, p = 0.028. For the whole sample, the MARD between the two methods was 15.5% (95% CI 14.5-16.6%). For normal glucose range, hyperglycemic levels and hypoglycemic levels MARD were 16.0% (95% CI 15.0-17.0%), 13.3% (95% CI 11.5-15.2%) and 23.4% [95% CI 20.5-26.3%)], respectively. Conclusion: FGM after usual SMBG decreased the % time spent in hypoglycemia concomitant with an undesired increase in % time spent in hyperglycemia. Lower accuracy of FGM regarding hypoglycemia levels could result in overcorrection of hypoglycemia.

El Plan de Estado para el enfrentamiento al cambio climático en Cuba, concibe como uno de sus propósitos, afianzar una nación más preparada para aportar una propuesta integral a partir de la primera identificación de zonas y lugares priorizados, sus afectaciones y las acciones a acometer. En el presente artículo científico se exponen los resultados del proceso de validación de un instrumento para el diagnóstico de estrategias institucionales de enfrentamiento al cambio climático. El estudio realizado se corresponde con la tipología de validez de contenido, el cual se corresponde con una metodología de corte descriptivo e interpretativo. El estudio desplegado posibilita sostener que el instrumento elaborado es pertinente y tiene relevancia para diagnosticar las estrategias institucionales de enfrentamiento al cambio climático, teniendo como base el juicio de expertos, el cual fue realizado por docentes investigadores con una alta experiencia en la temática sometida a su consideración. Puede ser significativo efectuar un estudio científico similar para someter al análisis la medición de la confiabilidad del cuestionario elaborado, así como resultaría conveniente que el presente instrumento, sea aplicado en fase piloto, para proceder a la realización de los ajustes necesarios.

Introducción: incorporar aspectos funcionales y el estudio de las articulaciones temporomandibulares al ámbito ortodóncico exige del examen inicial de las mismas y, a partir de esa posición en relación céntrica, realizar diagnóstico y planificar el tratamiento ortodóncico. Objetivo: determinar la posible asociación entre deslizamientos de relación céntrica a posición de máxima intercuspidación con la edad e identificar cambios de las variables oclusales como consecuencia del deslizamiento. Métodos: se realizó un estudio transversal descriptivo y correlacional en el período comprendido de octubre de 2018 a octubre de 2019 en la Clínica “Victoria de Santa Clara”. Se conformó una muestra intencionada, no probabilística, de 30 jóvenes entre 15 y 19 años de edad, con dentición permanente completa y deslizamiento anormal de relación céntrica a posición de máxima intercuspidación. Se examinaron variables oclusales: resaltes, sobrepases, relación de molares y de caninos y líneas medias dentarias. Resultados: la media de la magnitud del deslizamiento anterior entre la relación céntrica y la posición de máxima intercuspidación mostró un valor de 1,53 mm en adolescentes de 15 años de edad, mientras que en el deslizamiento lateral la distribución se comportó de manera homogénea. Introduction: in the training process of student- athletes, conceived as subjects endowed with high capacities, the harmonization of teaching with the practice of high competition sports represents a challenge for educational institutions. So, the introduction of innovative resources that contribute to the correct development of this assignment constitutes a claim. Objective: to design a series of psychopedagogical guidance actions for the comprehensive training of Taekwondo student-athletes of the "Ormani Arenado” Sport Initiation School (Eide in Spanish), so that they can harmonize sports practice with teaching activity. Materials and methods: the methodology followed is based on a qualitative research perspective, where the descriptive and exploratory methods were fundamental in the diagnosis of the current conditions of the psychopedagogical guidance process. The analysis of documents, semi-structured interviews and the survey were th fundamental methods used to collect relevant information for the design of the proposed activities. Results: the study derives the need to implement actions that improve the process of psychopedagogical guidance to student-athletes, so that they contribute to the optimal harmonization between sports and academic activity. Conclusions: the main contribution of the proposed strategy is the recognition of the need to achieve coordinated work between teachers, coaches, psychologists, educational psychologists and the rest of those involved in the comprehensive training of student -athletes, in a process where the latter necessarily have to assume an active role.

El objetivo del presente trabajo fue determinar la edad de transición de madera juvenil a madura a partir del estudio de la variación axial y radial de la densidad y realizar modelos descriptivos de distribución de madera juvenil y madura en el fuste de Populus deltoides, clon `Stoneville 67´ de 20 años de edad. La densidad presentó un aumento de sus valores de médula a corteza y desde la base hacia el ápice. La edad de transición se determinó entre los 10-12 años de edad, el volumen de madera juvenil y madura fue del 40 % y 60 % respectivamente. La distribución de la madera juvenil coincidió con el modelo de cilindro central.

Context: No reports about the response of the main Coffea arabica L. genotypes grafted onto Coffea canephora in the presence of plant growth promoting rhizobium have been found yet. Aim: To evaluate the effect of Rhizobium alamii Rpr2 on C. arabica L. development while grafted onto C. canephora (Robusta). Methods: The trial was conducted under a randomized block design, with a 4x2 factorial arrangement, in four replicas. The factors were four C. arabica L. genotypes. (Isla 6-14, Isla 5-15, Isla 6-11, and San Ramón), and two rhizobium application levels (with rhizobium or without it). The days to inosculation were evaluated, along with the percentage of graft inosculation, graft height, graft stem height, number of graft leaf pairs, foliar area, dry leaf mass, root growth, root volume, and root dry mass. Results: The results showed the interaction between the grafted C. arabica species, and strain R. alamii Rpr2. The inoculated scion Isla 6-14/Robusta showed a better response than the other treatments and the control, which makes it a suitable variant for coffee growing. Conclusions: The utilization of plant-growth promoting bacteria is an effective alternative for grafting stimulation and development, which might lead to greater availability of plantlets ready for large-scale planting in the field.

Abstract Background We proposed that the behaviors that demonstrate compassionate care in the intensive care unit (ICU) can be self-assessed and improved among ICU clinicians. Literature showing views of intensivists about their own compassionate care attitudes is missing. Methods This was an observational, prospective, cross-sectional study. We surveyed clinicians who are members of professional societies of intensive care using the modified Schwartz Center Compassionate Care Scale® (SCCCS) about their self-reported compassionate care. A modified SCCCS instrument was disseminated via an email sent to the members of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine between March and June 2021. Results Three hundred twenty-three clinicians completed the survey from a cohort of 1000 members who responded (32.3% response rate). The majority (54%) of respondents were male physicians of 49 (+ − 10 SD) years of age and 19 (12 + − SD) years in practice. The mean SCCCS was 88.5 (out of 100) with an average score of 8 for each question (out of 10), showing a high self-assessed physician rating of their compassionate care in the ICU. There was a positive association with age and years in practice with a higher score, especially for women ages 30–50 years (P = 0.03). This work explores the evolution of auditory analysis in NMR spectroscopy, tracing its journey from a supplementary tool to visual methods such as oscilloscopes, to a technique sidelined due to technological advancements. Despite its renaissance in the late 1990s with artistic and scientific applications, widespread adoption was hindered by the necessity for hardware modifications and reliance on specialized software. Addressing these barriers, this paper introduces a new feature in Mnova NMR software that facilitates the easy auditory interpretation of NMR signals. We discuss new applications of this tool, emphasizing its utility in aiding the identification of specific functional groups by auditory analysis of the spectrum’s multiplets, such as distinguishing between aromatic, olefinic, or aliphatic protons, thereby enriching the interpretative capabilities of NMR data.

The Mediterranean Sea comprises just 0.8 % of the global oceanic surface, yet considering its size, it is regarded as a disproportionately large sink for anthropogenic carbon due to its physical and biogeochemical characteristics. An underwater glider mission was carried out in March–April 2016 close to the BOUSSOLE and DyFAMed time series moorings in the northwestern Mediterranean Sea. The glider deployment served as a test of a prototype ion-sensitive field-effect transistor pH sensor. Dissolved oxygen (O2) concentrations and optical backscatter were also observed by the glider and increased between 19 March and 1 April, along with pH. These changes indicated the start of a phytoplankton spring bloom, following a period of intense mixing. Concurrent measurements of CO2 fugacity and O2 concentrations at the BOUSSOLE mooring buoy showed fluctuations, in qualitative agreement with the pattern of glider measurements. Mean net community production rates (N) were estimated from glider and buoy measurements of dissolved O2 and inorganic carbon (DIC) concentrations, based on their mass budgets. Glider and buoy DIC concentrations were derived from a salinity-based total alkalinity parameterisation, glider pH and buoy CO2 fugacity. The spatial coverage of glider data allowed the calculation of advective O2 and DIC fluxes. Mean N estimates for the euphotic zone between 10 March and 3 April were (-17±36) for glider O2, (44±94) for glider DIC, (17±37) for buoy O2 and (49±86) mmolm-2d-1 for buoy DIC, all indicating net metabolic balance over these 25 d. However, these 25 d were actually split into a period of net DIC increase and O2 decrease between 10 and 19 March and a period of net DIC decrease and O2 increase between 19 March and 3 April. The latter period is interpreted as the onset of the spring bloom. The regression coefficients between O2 and DIC-based N estimates were 0.25 ± 0.08 for the glider data and 0.54 ± 0.06 for the buoy, significantly lower than the canonical metabolic quotient of 1.45±0.15. This study shows the added value of co-locating a profiling glider with moored time series buoys, but also demonstrates the difficulty in estimating N, and the limitations in achievable precision.

Se inventariaron los foraminíferos grandes del Sector Baracoa, del Parque Nacional Alejandro de Humboldt (PNAH), Guantánamo, Cuba. Los muestreos se realizaron mediante buceo ligero colectándose sustratos abióticos en tres localidades Nibujón, Bahía de Taco y Bahía de Yamanigüey. Se inventariaron 14 especies pertenecientes a18 géneros de foraminíferos. Este trabajo contribuyó al inventario de la biodiversidad marina del PNAH, para su incorporación al Plan de Manejo de dicho parque.

The research was carried out in areas of natural and artificial forests under xerophytic conditions in the Imías and San Antonio del Sur municipalities of Guantánamo province, with the objective of evaluating carbon retention in these types of forests. The data corresponding to forest dynamics and the Project for the Organization and Development of the Forest Economy of the year 2018 were processed with the automated system SUMFOR v-4.02 . Natural forests were the ones with the highest retention with 181.53 tC/ha, while artificial forests retained 179.27 tC/ha. By deposits, the highest percentage is reported in the soil with 68.55 while by forest categories the highest results are obtained by the producing forests with 186.44 tC/ha, the rest of the categories have a similar behavior between them, ranging between 170 and 179. In a projection of the carbon baseline for 10 years, it was evidenced that by the year 2028 total carbon retention would have increased 35% with respect to the initial value, growth to which natural forests would contribute 69%. Information on carbon retention was obtained for the Manigua costera, Uveral, and typical Xerophyte formations that had not yet been studied in the country, and carbon retention values for the species Trichilia hirta L. and Phyllostylon brasiliensis capan . are presented for the first time.

A nivel nacional y los territorios enfrentan retos comunes en el abordaje a los impactos generados por la pandemia de Covid-19. En este marco se valoraron aspectos de acciones sociales y riesgos epidemiológicos para el enfrentamiento a la Covid-19. A través de una investigación cualitativa, se abordo el tema a partir de las categorías y componentes establecidos en la gestión de riesgos epidemiológicos en situaciones de emergencias, que permitieron exponer las experiencias cubanas con resultados alentadores a partir del trabajo conjunto, la voluntad política del Gobierno cubano y de los organismos, y el relevante papel desempeñado por el Ministerio de Salud Pública y sus profesionales, implementar medidas de prevención y control en el enfrentamiento a la pandemia que aunque estas medidas son muy similares en los países, su efectividad depende de su cumplimiento por parte de la sociedad y el papel decisivo de los gobiernos.

Two brown seaweeds (Saccharina japonica and Undaria pinnatifida) were characterized in terms of their nutritional and mineral composition, as well as their potential to modify the human gut microbiota. Nutritional analysis of these seaweeds showed that they comply with the criteria set out in European legislation to be labeled “low fat,” “low sugar,” and “high fiber.” Mineral content analysis showed that 100 g of seaweed provided more than 100% of the daily Ca requirements, as well as 33–42% of Fe, 10–17% of Cu, and 14–17% of Zn requirements. An in vitro human digest simulator system was used to analyze the effect of each seaweed on the human colonic microbiota. The gut microbiota was characterized by 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and short-chain fatty-acid analysis. Seaweed digestion and fermentation showed beneficial effects, such as a decrease in the phylum Firmicutes and an increase in the phyla Bacteroidetes and Actinobacteria. At the species level, seaweed fermentation increased the proportion of beneficial bacteria such as Parabacteroides distasonis and Bifidobacterium. Regarding of metabolic pathways, no significant differences were found between the two seaweeds, but there were significant differences concerning to the baseline. An increase in short-chain fatty-acid content was observed for both seaweeds with respect to the negative control, especially for acetic acid. Given of the obtained results, S. japonica and U. pinnatifida intake are promising and could open new opportunities for research and application in the fields of nutrition and human health.

Introduction: Phobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by fear or intense and irrational fear toward something. It presents an annual rate of incidence of 8 % and hypnosis is one of the most used treatments in those who suffer from this disorder. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the hypnotherapeutic pattern applied to patients in school age with phobic anxiety disorders. Methods: A quasi-experiment hypnotherapeutic intervention was carried out in the 30 patients with school phobia that attended the hypnosis multidisciplinary service at the Therapeutic Hypnosis Clinic in Santiago de Cuba, from October, 2016 to the same month in 2018. To such an effect, the intervention consisted of 3 stages and the Mc-Nemar test was applied for 2 related samples, as well as the chi-square test. Results: In the series there was a prevalence of the male sex patients (53.3 %), mainly between 8 and 9 years (37.5 %), as well as the specific phobias. After having applied the hypnosis, a favorable psychological response was obtained in all the patients. Conclusions: The hypnotherapeutic pattern applied was effective, because a favorable clinical course and a good treatment response were achieved.

Introducción: según la Organización Mundial de la Salud, el software educativo ha revolucionado el modelo pedagógico tradicional hacia nuevos modelos didácticos, donde el espacio, el tiempo y los recursos para el aprendizaje no están limitados. Objetivo: diseñar un software educativo como soporte bibliográfico para la asignatura Rehabilitación II, de la carrera Estomatología. Métodos: se realizó una investigación de innovación tecnológica en la Facultad de Estomatología de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Villa Clara, durante el curso 2018-2019. Se utilizaron métodos teóricos: histórico–lógico, analítico–sintético, e inductivo–deductivo; empíricos: revisión de documentos, entrevista no estructurada a estudiantes de otros años superiores y a directivos y otros docentes de la facultad, y cuestionario a estudiantes. Para la confección de la software educativo se utilizaron los programas: Notepad++, Paint, Photoshow, Microsoft Office Power Point y Wondershare Photo Story Platinum. Resultados: el análisis documental confirmó carencias de bibliografías y medios de enseñanza para el estudio e impartición de los contenidos de la asignatura, lo cual fue confirmado por los informantes clave. La mayoría de los estudiantes prefirieron como medio de obtención de la información un software educativo, el cual fue diseñado y valorado por criterios de especialistas. Conclusiones: por su información el software educativo es un recurso capaz de ser utilizado como medio de enseñanza en la impartición y estudio de la asignatura. Fue valorado por especialistas como un material funcional, de aplicabilidad, atractivo, factible y original.
