Advertisement calls in frogs have evolved to be species-specific signals of recognition and are therefore considered an essential component of integrative taxonomic approaches to identify species and delineate their distribution range. The species rich genus Microhyla is a particularly challenging group for species identification, discovery and conservation management due to the small size, conserved morphology and wide distribution of its members, necessitating the need for a thorough description of their vocalization. In this study, we provide quantitative description of the vocal behaviour of Microhyla nilphamariensis, a widely distributed south Asian species, from Delhi, India, based on call recordings of 18 individuals and assessment of 21 call properties. Based on the properties measured acrossed 360 calls, we find that a typical advertisement call of M. nilphamariensis lasts for 393.5 ±  57.5 ms, has 17 pulses on average and produce pulses at rate of 39 pulses/s. The overall call dominant frequency was found to be 2.8 KHz and the call spectrum consisted of two dominant frequency peaks centered at 1.6 KHz and 3.6 KHz, ranging between 1.5-4.1 KHz. Apart from its typical advertisement call, our study also reveals the presence of three rare call types, previously unreported in this species. We describe variability in call properties and discuss their relation to body size and temperature. We found that overall dominant frequency 1 (spectral property) was found to be correlated with body size, while first pulse period (temporal property) was found to be correlated with temperature. Further, we compare the vocal repertoire of M. nilphamariensis with that of the congener Microhyla ornata from the western coast of India and Sri Lanka and also compare the call properties of these two populations of M. ornata to investigate intra-specific call variation. We find statistically significant differentiation in their acoustic repertoire in both cases. Based on 18 call properties (out of 20), individuals of each locality clearly segregate on PCA factor plane forming separate groups. Discriminant function analysis (DFA) using PCA factors shows 100% classification success with individuals of each locality getting classified to a discrete group. This confirms significant acoustic differentiation between these species as well as between geographically distant conspecifics. The data generated in this study will be useful for comparative bioacoustic analysis of Microhyla species and can be utilized to monitor populations and devise conservation management plan for threatened species in this group.

Cells expressing features of senescence, including upregulation of p21 and p16, appear transiently following tissue injury, yet the properties of these cells or how they contrast with age-induced senescent cells remains unclear. Here, we used skeletal injury as a model and identified the rapid appearance following fracture of [p21.sup.+] cells expressing senescence markers, mainly as osteochondroprogenitors (OCHs) and neutrophils. Targeted genetic clearance of [p21.sup.+] cells suppressed senescence-associated signatures within the fracture callus and accelerated fracture healing. By contrast, [p21.sup.+] cell clearance did not alter bone loss due to aging; conversely, [p16.sup.+] cell clearance, known to alleviate skeletal aging, did not affect fracture healing. Following fracture, [p21.sup.+] neutrophils were enriched in signaling pathways known to induce paracrine stromal senescence, while [p21.sup.+] OCHs were highly enriched in senescence-associated secretory phenotype factors known to impair bone formation. Further analysis revealed an injury-specific stem cell-like OCH subset that was [p21.sup.+] and highly inflammatory, with a similar inflammatory mesenchymal population (fibro-adipogenic progenitors) evident following muscle injury. Thus, intercommunicating senescent-like neutrophils and mesenchymal progenitor cells were key regulators of tissue repair in bone and potentially across tissues. Primary objective: To evaluate the accuracy of an innovative machine-learning-powered near-infrared spectroscopy (mNIRS)-based bio-optical sensitivity parameters, namely specific tissue optical index (STOI) and intracranial tissue optical index (ITOI) for effective triaging of patients with suspected traumatic brain injury (TBI) across different age-groups to facilitate timely intervention and curtail the silent epidemic. Research design: Prospective, observational, double-blinded, cross-sectional single-center. Methods: A total of 240 subjects suspected with TBI and recommended for head CT scan were enrolled. Findings of CT were compared with the bio-optical sensitivity parameters (STOI+ITOI) generated by the mNIRS system to detect intracranial hemorrhages (ICHs). Statistical Software used: SPSS (IBM version 21.0) Results Bio-optical sensitivity parameters (STOI+ITOI) analysis of 1288 scanned lobes showed high specificity of 97% (CI 95–98%), sensitivity of 96% (CI 92–99%), and accuracy of 97% (CI 96–98%) across all ages, maintaining robust performance for detecting subdural, epidural, subarachnoid hemorrhages, and contusions. Also, the reliability in the diagnosis of ICH was evidenced by Youden's index of 0.93 and positive and negative likelihood ratios of 29.13 and 0.04, respectively. Conclusion: The mNIRS-based STOI+ITOI proves to be an effective triage tool for TBI, exhibiting superior diagnostic performance across all age-groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Organic manure amendments into the rainfed agricultural soil could change the carbon saturation deficit. This study was conducted in the central Himalayan region of India to assess the impact of varying quantities of farmyard manure (FYM) and vermicompost (VC) on changes of soil carbon saturation deficit in the rainfed agricultural system. The experimental plots with three replications and three different amendment rates, such as 15, 30, and 60 Mg ha−1 of FYM and VC were used on the traditional paddy-wheat-finger millet-fallow cropping system. The soil amended with FYM and VC showed significant (p <.05) variations in the soil carbon content, nitrogen content, total microbial activity, β-glucosidase activity, and acid phosphatase activity with an increasing rate of both the manures in each cropping season. The mean soil carbon saturation deficit values varied from 25 to 36% and 19 to 28% in the first year cropping and second year cropping seasons, respectively. Our results demonstrate that the VC amendment was better than FYM for the accumulation of more carbon content in the rainfed agricultural soils of Himalaya, whereas the organic manure amendment rates must be considered for climate change impact mitigation action policy in the future. Aluminum alloy 7075-T651 is a widely used material in the aviation, marine, and automobile sectors. The wide application marks the importance of this material’s research in the manufacturing field. This research focuses on optimizing input process parameters of the turning process in the machining of Aluminum 7075-T651 with a tungsten carbide insert. The input machining parameters are cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut for the output response parameters cutting force, feed force, radial force, material removal, and surface roughness of the workpiece. For optimization of process parameters, the Taguchi method, with standard L9 orthogonal array, is used. ANOVA is applied to obtain signifi-cant factors and optimal combinations of process parameters.

Medication adherence is crucial for managing respiratory conditions effectively. This study aimed to explore the multifaceted factors influencing medication adherence among patients with respiratory illnesses. A comprehensive analysis focused on patient demographics, characteristics, clinical aspects, beliefs about medications, and reasons for irregular medication use. A cross-sectional design assessed medication adherence and beliefs in COPD patients through questionnaires. The study identified a middle-aged population (average age: 48.5 years) with high smoking prevalence, aligning with established COPD risk factors. Medication adherence scores indicated moderate levels (average ARMS score: 62.7), but with significant individual variation. Financial burden emerged as the primary barrier, with nearly 28% of participants reporting cost-related non-adherence, particularly impacting lower socioeconomic status (SES) patients. Social stigma regarding respiratory illness, a novel factor, influenced adherence, especially in urban areas (19.8% reported experiencing stigma). The study found a positive correlation between positive medication beliefs and adherence, highlighting the importance of fostering trust in treatment effectiveness. A confirmed COPD diagnosis and specific inhaler devices (DPI, PMDI with spacer) were also linked to improved adherence. The "carpal boss" is a variant present in 19% of the population according to cadaveric studies but becomes symptomatic in only 1% of cases. With the rising popularity of "yoga," which includes prolonged hyperextension at the wrist joint with weight bearing, an increasing number of individuals with silent carpal boss present with dorsal wrist pain due to impingement over the dorsal soft tissues by this innocuous bony protuberance. This warrants the attention of radiologists and clinicians while dealing with wrist pain. It can be challenging to identify this bossing on routine radiographs, necessitating special views. We describe the use of dynamic ultrasound in diagnosing "symptomatic" carpal boss, the effects of which become even more evident on imaging during hyperextension—the triggering movement.
