Abstract

In this article, we conduct comparative studies on the optical properties of metallic carbon nanotubes. Firstly, we compare the complex dielectric constant predicted by an analytical model, the Linear Surface Conductivity Model, with \textit{ab initio} calculations based on Density Functional Theory. We highlight the similarities and differences between these two models, with the major discrepancy being a significantly different behavior of the plasma frequency with respect to the carbon nanotube diameter. In the second step, we compare the predictions of these models with experimental measurements of the dielectric function. We demonstrate that the screened plasma frequency serves as a reliable quantifier for distinguishing between the two models. In conclusion, we find that the \textit{ab initio} calculations more accurately describe the optical properties of metallic carbon nanotubes compared to the commonly used Linear Surface Conductivity Model., Comment: 4 figures

Abstract

Abstract Nanographene materials are promising building blocks for the growing field of low-dimensional materials for optics, electronics and biophotonics applications. In particular, bottom-up synthesized 0D graphene quantum dots show great potential as single quantum emitters. To fully exploit their exciting properties, the graphene quantum dots must be of high purity; the key parameter for efficient purification being the solubility of the starting materials. Here, we report the synthesis of a family of highly soluble and easily processable rod-shaped graphene quantum dots with fluorescence quantum yields up to 94%. This is uncommon for a red emission. The high solubility is directly related to the design of the structure, allowing for an accurate description of the photophysical properties of the graphene quantum dots both in solution and at the single molecule level. These photophysical properties were fully predicted by quantum-chemical calculations.

Abstract

The biological processes underlying NK cell alloreactivity in haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) remain unclear. Many different models to predict NK alloreactivity through KIR and MHC genotyping exist, raising ambiguities in its utility and application for clinicians. We assessed 27 predictive models, broadly divided into six categories of alloreactivity prediction: ligand-ligand, receptor-ligand, educational, KIR haplotype-based, KIR matching and KIR allelic polymorphism. The models were applied to 78 NGS-typed donor/recipient pairs undergoing allogeneic HSCT in genoidentical (n=43) or haploidentical (n=35) matchings. Correlations between different predictive models differed widely, suggesting that the choice of the model in predicting NK alloreactivity matters. For example, two broadly used models, educational and receptor-ligand, led to opposing predictions especially in the genoidentical cohort. Correlations also depended on the matching fashion, suggesting that this parameter should also be taken into account in the choice of the scoring strategy. The number of centromeric B-motifs was the only model strongly correlated with the incidence of acute graft-versus-host disease in our set of patients in both the genoidentical and the haploidentical cohorts, suggesting that KIR-based alloreactivity, not MHC mismatches, are responsible for it. To our best knowledge, this paper is the first to experimentally compare NK alloreactivity prediction models within a cohort of genoidentical and haploidentical donor-recipient pairs. This study helps to resolve current discrepancies in KIR-based alloreactivity predictions and highlights the need for deeper consideration of the models used in clinical studies as well as in medical practice.

Abstract

Recent advancements in materials science have shed light on the potential of exploring hierarchical assemblies of molecules on surfaces, driven by both fundamental and applicative challenges. This field encompasses diverse areas including molecular storage, drug delivery, catalysis, and nanoscale chemical reactions. In this context, the utilization of nanotube templates (NTs) has emerged as promising platforms for achieving advanced one-dimensional (1D) molecular assemblies. NTs offer cylindrical, crystalline structures with high aspect ratios, capable of hosting molecules both externally and internally (Mol@NT). Furthermore, NTs possess a wide array of available diameters, providing tunability for tailored assembly. This review underscores recent breakthroughs in the field of Mol@NT. The first part focuses on the diverse panorama of structural properties in Mol@NT synthesized in the last decade. The advances in understanding encapsulation, adsorption, and ordering mechanisms are detailed. In a second part, the review highlights the physical interactions and photophysics properties of Mol@NT obtained by the confinement of molecules and nanotubes in the van der Waals distance regime. The last part of the review describes potential applicative fields of these 1D heterostructures, providing specific examples in photovoltaics, luminescent materials, and bio-imaging. A conclusion gathers current challenges and perspectives of the field to foster discussion in related communities.

Abstract

Research on graphene based nanomaterials has flourished in the last decade due their unique properties and emerging socio-economic impact. In the context of their potential exploitation for biomedical applications, there is a growing need for the development of more efficient imaging techniques to track the fate of these materials. Herein we propose the first correlative imaging approach based on the combination of radioimaging and mass spectrometry imaging for the detection of Graphene Oxide (GO) labelled with carbon-14 in mice. In this study, 14C-graphene oxide nanoribbons were produced from the oxidative opening of 14C-carbon nanotubes, and were then intensively sonicated to provide nano-size 14C-GO flakes. After Intravenous administration in mice, 14C-GO distribution was quantified by radioimaging performed on tissue slices. On the same slices, MS-imaging provided a highly resolved distribution map of the nanomaterial based on the detection of specific radical anionic carbon clusters ranging from C2˙- to C9˙- with a base peak at m/z 72 (12C) and 74 (14C) under negative laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (LDI-MS) conditions. This proof of concept approach synergizes the strength of each technique and could be advantageous in the pre-clinical development of future Graphene-based biomedical applications.

Abstract

Atomically precise graphene quantum dots synthesized by bottom-up chemistry are promising versatile single emitters with potential applications for quantum photonic technologies. Toward a better understanding and control of graphene quantum dot (GQD) optical properties, we report on single-molecule spectroscopy at cryogenic temperature. We investigate the effect of temperature on the GQDs' spectral linewidth and vibronic replica, which we interpret building on density functional theory calculations. Finally, we highlight that the vibronic signatures are specific to the GQD geometry and can be used as a fingerprint for identification purposes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This document compares two different conditioning regimens used in stem cell transplantation for hematological malignancies. The study found that one regimen, TBF-MAC, was associated with lower relapse but higher non-relapse mortality compared to the other regimen, MAC-Flu-Bu. In patients receiving reduced intensity conditioning, there were similar outcomes between the two regimens. Overall, the study suggests that the addition of thiotepa to the standard conditioning regimen may not improve patient outcomes for certain types of diseases. Abstract

International audience; Graphene quantum dots, atomically precise nanopieces of graphene, are promising nanoobjects with potential applications in various domains such as photovoltaics, quantum light emitters or bio-imaging. Despite their interesting prospects, precise reports on their photophysical properties remain scarce. Here, we report on a study of the photophysics of C$_{96}$H$_{24}$(C$_{12}$H$_{25}$) graphene quantum dots. A combination of optical studies down to the single molecule level with advanced molecular modeling demonstrates the importance of the coupling to vibrations in the emission process. Optical fingerprints for H-like aggregates are identified. Our combined experimental-theoretical investigations provide a comprehensive description of the light absorption and emission properties of nanographenes, which not only represents an essentiel step towards precise control of sample production, but also paves the way for new exciting physics focused on twisted graphenoid.

Abstract

International audience; BackgroundAllogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) remains the best curative option for high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome . We retrospectively compared patient outcomes after allo-HSCT according to the intensity of the conditioning regimen.Patients and MethodsThree conditioning regimens were compared in 427 patients allografted for high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome: reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC), fludarabine (150-160 mg/m2) and busulfan (6.4 mg/kg); sequential FLAMSA-RIC, fludarabine, amsacrine, and aracytine followed by RIC; and myeloablative with reduced toxicity (RTC), fludarabine and busulfan (9.6 mg/kg or 12.8 mg/kg).ResultsThe patients in the 3 conditioning groups were different in regards to the number of treatment lines (P< .001), percentage of blasts in bone marrow (P< .001), and disease status at transplantation (P< .001). No significant differences in outcomes (overall survival, progression-free survival, nonrelapse mortality, relapse incidence, and graft versus host disease relapse-free survival) were observed between the 3 groups. Using propensity score analysis to overcome baseline imbalances, we compared 70 patients receiving FLAMSA-RIC to 260 patients receiving RIC, and compared 83 patients receiving RTC to 252 patients receiving RIC. The only factor influencing overall and progression-free survival was cytogenetic risk at transplantation. After the covariate adjustment using propensity score to reduce baseline imbalances, the only factor influencing overall and progression-free survival was still cytogenetic risk at transplantation.ConclusionOverall survival appears to be similar with the 3 conditioning regimens. The only factor influencing survival is cytogenetic risk at transplantation, suggesting that new promising drugs in the conditioning and/or early interventions after transplantation are needed to improve outcomes in these patients.
