The purpose of this study was to explore the ways in which in-service physical education teachers construct their self-efficacy beliefs toward teaching students with disabilities in general physical education classes. Using a qualitative descriptive approach situated within self-efficacy theory, data were collected via semistructured audio-recorded interviews with 16 in-service physical educators. Three interrelated themes were constructed: (a) The more I do it, the better I feel: the importance of professional experiences; (b) I've learned from others: the influence of colleagues; and (c) Being in the general educational setting is a challenge: the impact of contextual factors. Findings supported the influence of the four sources of self-efficacy (i.e., mastery experience, vicarious experience, social persuasion, and affective and physiological state), in addition to potential contextual factors (i.e., class sizes and availability of hands-on support), impacting participants' self-efficacy to teach students with disabilities in general physical education classes. This paper investigates the potential of the Gamified Metaverse as a platform for promoting library services. The study compares the effectiveness of a traditional library program with a Metaverse- based library program in terms of knowledge acquisition and library anxiety. The research also examines students' perceptions of implementing gamification within the context of the Gamified Metaverse platform. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, including pre- and post-test analysis, statistical analysis, and qualitative data collection. The results indicate that both the traditional and Metaverse-based library programs effectively increased the participants' knowledge, with no significant difference between the two approaches. However, the Metaverse-based program was found to be less effective in facilitating interaction with librarians and reducing library anxiety. Additionally, students expressed positive perceptions of implementing gamification in the Gamified Metaverse platform, finding it engaging and motivating. These findings contribute to the understanding of the effect of the Metaverse as a tool for promoting library services and enhancing knowledge acquisition. However, it is not as effective in reducing library anxiety, particularly in terms of interaction with librarians and staff. It should be noted that the platform may have limitations such as high costs and potential side effects of virtual reality, making it more suitable as an additional tool for promoting library services, taking into account its feasibility and potential benefits for specific student populations and larger libraries. Aim: To explore nurses' perceptions of evidence-based nursing courses for undergraduates through academic-practice partnerships. Design: A deductive thematic analysis based on the practice-academic logic model. Methods: Fifteen academic and clinical nurses were interviewed between November and December 2023, either online or through face-to-face meetings. Each interview lasted 20–30 min. The interview outline was constructed based on the practice-academic partnership logic model, which was followed during the process of recorded, analyzed, and checked. Results: Themes identified include inputs (e.g., stakeholder commitment), activities (e.g., communication), outputs (e.g., nursing projects), and outcomes (e.g., improved competence). These themes highlight the various aspects and outcomes of academic-practice partnerships in evidence-based nursing courses. Conclusion: Effective academic-practice partnerships are crucial for developing evidence-based nursing courses, leading to positive educational and professional outcomes. Aim. To explore the perceptions of the nursing deans towards the alignment of nursing education following the Saudi Vision 2030. Background. The Saudi Vision 2030 has been considered a bold move, attainable and realistic, to elevate its status worldwide as a thriving nation, exceptionally with its economy, education, health, recreation, and tourism. Educational transformation must be implemented to revolutionize the pathway of nursing education towards national and international recognition as a thriving and sustainable producer of high‐caliber nursing graduates. Methods. Exploratory‐descriptive qualitative study. A total of 18 nursing deans were selected purposively who met the set inclusion criteria. Semistructured interviews were conducted from April to December 2023. Colaizzi's method was applied in analyzing the data. The COREQ checklist was employed in reporting the qualitative results. Results. Four main themes transpired from the narratives of the participants: (1) leadership and management capacities; (2) educational transformation; (3) support system; and (4) the future of nursing education in KSA. New developments in the nursing profession indicate that the College of Nursing deans in Saudi Arabia need to get involved in making creative and sustainable strategies and practical policies that can help improve nursing education across the country in partnership with various stakeholders to ensure that the nursing profession is brought into line with the kingdom's Vision 2030. Background: Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is essential in empowering adolescents with the knowledge and confidence to manage their sexual and reproductive health. Despite its recognized benefits, access to quality CSE remains limited, especially in low-income countries, where societal norms and structural barriers hinder effective delivery. The aim of this study is to investigate the experiences and perceptions among students, teachers, and principals in Nepal about comprehensive sexuality education. Methods: Qualitative methods were used. 13 Semi-structured interviews and 1 focus group discussion were carried out with 15 teachers and principals working at higher secondary schools and two focus group discussions were conducted with a total of 13 adolescents. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Results: Four themes were developed: Resistance to Teaching and Learning, Preparation and Engagement Strategies, Taboos and Silencing and Structural Barriers. Students, teachers, principals and students reported discomfort and embarrassment when discussing sensitive topics, with gender dynamics playing a significant role. Strategies like warm-up sessions and continuous interaction with students and parents were used to create a supportive learning environment. However, socio-cultural barriers and family attitudes continued to hinder open discussions about sexuality. Structural barriers, including the lack of formal training for teachers and inadequate instructional materials, further impeded effective CSE delivery. Conclusion: The experiences of CSE in Nepal among students, teachers and principals highlight significant barriers including cultural taboos, gender dynamics and insufficient resources. Background: Despite the numerous advantages of the nursing process, nursing students often struggle with utilizing this model. Therefore, studies suggest innovative teaching methods to address this issue. Teaching based on real clinical cases is considered a collaborative learning method that enhances students' active learning for the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In this method, students can acquire sufficient knowledge about patient care by accessing authentic information. Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the experiences of nursing students and faculty members regarding the implementation of nursing process educational workshops, based on real case studies. Design: A qualitative descriptive study. Participants: 9 Nursing students and 7 faculty members from the Isfahan School of Nursing and Midwifery who attended the workshops. Methods: This qualitative descriptive study was conducted from 2021 to 2023. Data was collected through semi-structured individual and focus group interviews using a qualitative content analysis approach for data analysis. Results: After analyzing the data, a theme titled "Breaking Taboos in the Nursing Process" was identified. This theme consists of four categories: "Strengthening the Cognitive Infrastructure for Accepting the Nursing Process," "Enhancing the Applicability of the Nursing Process," "Assisting in Positive Professional Identity," and "Facilitating a Self-Directed Learning Platform." Additionally, thirteen subcategories were obtained. Conclusion: The data obtained from the present study showed that conducting nursing process educational workshops, where real clinical cases are discussed, analyzed, and criticized, increases critical thinking, learning motivation, and understanding of the necessity and importance of implementing the nursing process. Background: A train-the-trainer approach can effectively support the integration of new practice standards for health and social services professionals. This study describes the effects of an enhanced train-the-trainer program to support registered nurses and social workers working in primary care clinics in their understanding of the fundamental principles of primary care. Methods: We implemented an enhanced train-the-trainer program for registered nurses and social workers in six primary care clinics. We conducted a pre-post study using quantitative and qualitative data to assess trainers' and trainees' intention, commitment, and confidence in applying acquired knowledge. Results: We trained 11 trainers and 33 trainees. All the trainers and trainees were satisfied with the program. Trainers were less confident in their abilities as trainers following the training, especially regarding tailored coaching (p = 0.03). Trainees' commitment to becoming familiar with the functioning of their clinic (p = 0.05) and becoming part of the team increased significantly (p = 0.01); however, their intention to use their knowledge decreased (p = 0.02). Trainers and trainees identified organizational and professional barriers that may explain the observed decrease. Conclusion: An enhanced train-the-trainer program positively impacted registered nurses' and social workers' assimilation of the fundamental principles of primary care. Further research is needed to understand the long-term effects of train-the-trainer programs on primary care trainees and how these effects translate into patient care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Firearm suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States. Suicide prevention experts have advocated for upstream interventions that can be implemented prior to the development of suicidal thoughts, particularly those that focus on lethal means safety (LMS; e.g., increasing secure firearm storage). To reach firearm owners with LMS messaging, researchers have developed suicide prevention training content which can be incorporated into firearm training courses. However, no study to date has evaluated impact of such training on firearm course students' subsequent knowledge, attitudes, and openness related to secure firearm storage. Thus, the current study sought to examine both the feasibility and acceptability of a LMS-focused suicide prevention training module among firearm course students, as well as the impact of this module on students' secure firearm storage-related knowledge, attitudes, and openness. Methods: Firearm instructors (N = 6) and students in firearm classes (N = 83) were recruited to participate. Students were invited to complete voluntary, anonymous pre- and post-surveys during courses they attended that were led by these instructors. Instructors and students were also invited to complete a brief qualitative interview. Results: Results indicated that firearm instructors and students in firearm courses found the module feasible and acceptable. Additionally, students' knowledge about the relationship between firearms and suicide, openness to changing firearm storage practices, and endorsement of the importance of discussing firearms and suicide with fellow firearm owners, as well as willingness and confidence to do so, all significantly increased after viewing the module. Conclusions: These findings provide strong support for the use of such culturally competent LMS messaging as upstream suicide prevention in settings such as concealed carry courses. Introduction: Preceptorships offer prelicensure nursing students the opportunity to meet their clinical objectives by working one-on-one with a registered nurse (RN). Although preceptorships can be provided for any clinical course, most prelicensure nursing programs offer them during the final semester. Preceptorships provide a bridge between academic study and the real world of nursing. By acting as a teacher, role model, evaluator, and person who can help a student to socialize with the profession, a preceptor can reduce the reality shock experienced by new nurses and provide them with realistic expectations about the nursing profession. The recent nursing shortage has inadvertently led to a preceptor shortage and forced the nursing leadership to become dependent on available RNs, including those without preceptor training or experience. Purpose: This practice update paper aimed to address the facilitators and barriers associated with preceptorships for prelicensure nursing students and discuss the proposed solutions for effective clinical preceptorship based on evidence and the author's personal reflections. Conclusion: The major facilitators were the discussion of nursing program expectations, the selection of teaching strategies with real-world examples, the creation of a structured weekly plan to promote learning, and the consideration of alternative teaching approaches. The major barriers were preceptors' dual responsibilities to students and patients, challenging students, and the lack of experienced preceptors. The proposed solutions included obtaining support from the nursing leadership team to ensure that the preceptor had a balanced workload, developing the emotional competence of the preceptor, addressing challenging students through a three-way conference with the student, the preceptor, and the clinical faculty and a written plan to ensure student progress, having the nursing leadership conduct periodic assessments of the preceptor pool, and ensuring that appropriate training was offered to candidates who were willing to become preceptors. The value of experts by experience within the field of intellectual disabilities is receiving greater recognition. This study explored the experiences of peer trainers regarding the impact of being a (1) trainee in a train the trainer course (n = 9), and (2) peer trainer in a Dutch training course (n = 6) aimed towards the self‐growth of people with intellectual disabilities. In addition to examining the experiences of peer trainers themselves, we investigated the perspective of coaches (n = 4) regarding the experiences of peer trainers. Peer trainers and coaches were questioned using individual and group interviews. Data were analysed using thematic analysis. Three themes were identified: (1) Growing and flourishing, (2) Performing a meaningful role for your peer and (3) Experiencing reciprocity and a sense of belonging. The use of alcohol and other drugs is a major public health problem in adolescence. The implementation of evidence-based prevention strategies is still scarce in the global south. This study aimed to evaluate facilitators and barriers to the implementation of the Icelandic prevention model of adolescent substance use (IPM) in Chile. We conducted a qualitative study of stakeholders during the implementation process of the IPM in six municipalities of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, Chile. We convened six focus groups with parents and professionals from schools and municipal prevention teams (38 participants). Recordings were transcribed and submitted to a six-step thematic analysis. The following facilitators emerged: Participants valued the contribution of the IPM to articulate existing programs and teams, its community focus, and the local data obtained through the survey. There were also several barriers: Those included resistance to adopting a foreign model, the tension between generating local strategies and looking for measures to ensure the fidelity of the implementation, socioeconomic differences between and within municipalities, low-risk perception and supervision of parents in Chile, and a culture that generally does not discourage adolescent substance use. Implementation of the IPM was largely accepted by the stakeholders who agreed with the community approach of the model. The main barriers to consider were related to cultural and socioeconomic factors that need to be addressed in further research and may limit the effects of the model in Chile. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The recent emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) tools has significantly influenced different fields, including education. One notable example is ChatGPT, an AI-driven large language model (LLM) developed by OpenAI. This tool holds potential for supporting both teachers and students in the teaching and learning process. While some fields of education have benefitted from using ChatGPT to enhance learning, there is a gap in the literature concerning how physical education teachers can benefit from using tools such as ChatGPT. This article explores the capabilities and practicality of the generative AI chatbot for supporting teaching and learning in physical education. The aim of this study is to examine the views of teachers who teach Qur'an courses to 4–6 year-olds on the inclusion of death in the curriculum, their observations about children's perceptions of and reactions to death, and the difficulties they experience while informing children about death. A qualitative research approach was adopted in the study. The data obtained from 41 teachers the interview form with were evaluated using descriptive analysis. According to the teachers, the inclusion of the phenomenon of death in the course curriculum for 4–6 year-olds is essential for satisfying the curiosity of children from a correct source. However, due to the multidimensional, deep and unexperienced nature of the death phenomenon, a clear answer has not yet been given to the question of the framework and limit of the explanations, and what and how much should be explained for whom. This qualitative study examined educational professionals' experiences including students with extensive support needs (ESN) in general education settings. Data were collected from 18 education professionals, including 5 special education teachers, 5 paraeducators, 4 administrators, and 4 general education teachers. The researcher used semi-structured interviews and analyzed them using thematic coding. The findings showed that the significant factors influencing successful inclusion were the belief systems of educational professionals, the number of general education classes available for inclusion, selective data collection by educators, superficial inclusion of students, the critical role of paraeducators, and interpersonal relationships among parents and educators. Recommendations included using multiple data collection methods, documenting student work in inclusive settings, revamping the paraeducator hiring and training process, increasing collaboration between general and special education teachers, expanding the number of classrooms available for ESN students, training general education teachers to teach all students, and challenging deficit thinking in teacher education programs. Despite their professed enthusiasm for open science, faculty researchers have been documented as not freely sharing their data; instead, if sharing data at all, they take a minimal approach. A robust research agenda in LIS has documented the data under‐sharing practices in which they engage, and the motivations they profess. Using theoretical frameworks from sociology to complement research in LIS, this article examines the broader context in which researchers are situated, theorizing the social relational dynamics in academia that influence faculty decisions and practices relating to data sharing. We advance a theory that suggests that the academy has entered a period of transition, and faculty resistance to data sharing through foot‐dragging is one response to shifting power dynamics. If the theory is borne out empirically, proponents of open access will need to find a way to encourage open academic research practices without undermining the social value of academic researchers. This study used video feedback in a collaborative development study to help improve teachers' perceptions of the learning needs of students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and intellectual disabilities (ID) and enhance their active participation in the classroom. Crucially, teachers need the necessary skills to discern students' subtle communications, as students with ASD and co-occurring ID may have reduced or non-existent verbal language and may express their needs mainly through behaviours. The first author video recorded ten classroom lessons and collaborated with three teachers to discuss the recordings in six meetings over the course of one semester. The data used for the analysis was taken from the first (February) and last (June) collaborative meetings of the semester. The results show how collaborative video feedback can influence teachers' judgements about students' learning and further their professional development; the subtle signals that students use to communicate become more visible when the video recordings are viewed multiple times. The collaborative discussions facilitated the teachers' understanding of students' behaviours and actions. This paper illuminates how teachers are influenced by age, gender and sexuality in teaching about sex and relationships. In this analysis grounded in feminist theory, age, gender and sexuality are considered to be enacted as doings. Six interviews with teachers working with sexuality education in K-12 schools in Sweden were chosen from of a larger body of material consisting of 21 interviews with professionals engaged in school-based sexuality education. The six interviewees were selected because they explicitly addressed how teachers' age, gender and/or sexuality come to matter in the classroom. Findings show how male and female teachers organise their teaching in relation to normative expectations of age, gender and sexuality. In sexuality education, the diverse life-courses of (hetero)sexual women offer a wide range of pedagogic possibilities for female teachers to address issues of sexuality, consent and relationships whereas male teachers are constrained to doing safe(r) forms of masculinity by directing attention away from their bodies and experiences. In understanding these results, I argue that the figure of the tant has been key in forming the pedagogic backdrop to Swedish sexuality education, hence embedding a normative 'who' in the 'how' to teach sexuality education. The age of the onset of menstruation, termed menarche, has been declining for decades worldwide. Approximately 12% of Australian girls reach menarche between eight to 11 years of age. Current health and physical education subject guidelines from the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority state that puberty education should be introduced to students between year levels five to six (ages 10–12) when many have already begun puberty. To explore how girls experiencing early menarche are currently supported in Australian primary schools, semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with 15 primary school staff from separate schools, including teachers, principals, a school services officer, and a school counsellor. Thematic analysis identified three main themes, (1) the prevalence of deficit models of early menarche and children's capacity to know; (2) gendered gatekeeping of menstruation knowledge; and (3) systemic barriers and inconsistencies in menstruation education. Our analysis complements but extends recent calls for improvements to menstruation education in Australian schools. Affirmative menstrual support practices and facilities are needed in primary schools to normalise and encourage conversations with students about menarche and menstruation irrespective of age, gender, class or culture. Exploring what practices early childhood special education (ECSE) teachers have been exposed to and use may highlight the need for improved dissemination and implementation supports. In this survey study, 312 U.S. ECSE teachers reported exposure (familiarity, training) and use of evidence-based practices (EBPs) and low-value practices (LVPs) for children with autism. Teachers reported high familiarity, training, and use of many EBPs (e.g., modeling, reinforcement), while other EBPs remain minimally used despite high familiarity (video modeling; 23.4%). Some teachers reported not using EBPs they had been trained in. Overall, teachers reported some familiarity and use of LVPs (m = 20.47, 0%–50.64%) and minimal training (preservice = 1.6%–33.33%). This paper addresses the research problem that arises from evidence that, despite supportive policy contexts, enactment of pedagogies that attend to young children's participation rights in classroom settings is highly variable. We report our exploration of the ways in which the child, and child participation are constructed in early education settings in Wales, where legislation and policy around children's rights has been a key feature of the Welsh Government agenda post‐devolution. Data were gathered via a qualitative online bilingual (English and Welsh) survey offered via email to teachers of children aged 3–7 in Wales. The overarching research question of the project was: How do teachers of children 3–7 years understand and enact the notion of participation as it relates to the children they teach? Data analysis focused on research participants' apparent constructions of the children they teach and their capabilities, and unpacked the ways in which these constructions relate to the reported opportunities for participation. The discussion is informed by the notion of the threshold concept, described by Meyer & Land as akin to a portal that opens new and previously inaccessible ways of thinking. We consider the extent to which the conceptual construction of the capable child maybe a threshold concept in shaping the realisation of children's participation rights in educative contexts. The main objective of the Youth Tackling Climate Emergency Educational Proposal (YTCEEP) is to involve secondary students in addressing climate action‐related subjects from a local context and in a proactive way. We present an evaluation of its third edition, based on the answers from final surveys assessing knowledge, perceptions and attitudes. Main results show that YTCEEP promotes reflection on environmental and social problems; although knowledge slightly improved on the subthemes researched, moderate–low knowledge on climate change in general was detected. Students do positively consider YTCEEP and the programme provides an educational opportunity to address several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to SDG13. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Eye-gaze technology provides access to a computer through the control of eye movements, thus allowing students with severe motor and communication difficulties to communicate and participate in curriculum activities and leisure; however, few studies have investigated whether any challenges exist to its implementation. This study examines the feasibility for teachers, parents, and therapists of applying an eye-gaze technology intervention for students with severe motor and communication difficulties in everyday settings. A mixed-method design was applied, focusing on the acceptability, demands, implementation, and practicality of the technology applications. Data was collected from 16 participants who assisted five students using eye-gaze technology in a previous 6-month intervention. The intervention comprised (a) use of eye-gaze devices with individualized content; and (b) services including training in use, team meetings, and bi-monthly support on implementation problems. The results showed that the participants perceived the technology as appropriate to enhance interaction and understanding of the students' learning and communication messages. Portable and easy-to-adjust systems were crucial to apply eye-gaze technology in different contexts. Improving eye-gaze services was required to afford in-service education, follow-up services, and loaning programs for sustainable implementation. Background: One of the main challenges facing individuals with an intellectual disability is the stigma associated with the various obstacles that hinder their process of full integration. Despite the efforts made, more research is called for to explore the reference environments and reveal how public and self-stigma are perceived in higher education. This scientific paper's overriding aim is to analyse how different university stakeholders (students, lecturers, and admin and service staff) perceive the presence of young people with intellectual disability. Method: An ex post facto design has been used with a sample of 306 participants and a validated instrument for measuring the perception of individuals with an intellectual disability. Results: Our findings reveal that women perceive less stigma than men, and when the analysis is broken down into the collectives involved, students with disability are clearly more conscious of public or self-stigma than their peers without any disability. Conlcusion: The disparity between gender and roles underscores the need for socioeducational interventions to promote inclusion in higher education and address self-stigma, thereby fostering self-sufficiency and emotional wellbeing among young individuals with intellectual disabilities. Being the 'mother' of most clinical specialties, general practice is as old as medicine itself. However, as a recognized academic discipline within medical schools, general practice has a relatively short life span. A decisive step forward was taken in 1956 when the University of Edinburgh established its Department of General Practice, and appointed the world's inaugural professor in the field in 1963. During the 1960s, the pioneering move in Edinburgh was followed by universities in the Netherlands (University of Utrecht), Canada (Western University, Ontario), and Norway (University of Oslo), marking the beginning of global academic recognition for general practice/family medicine. Despite its critical role in healthcare, the academic evolution of general practice has been sparingly documented, with a notable absence of comprehensive accounts detailing its integration into medical schools as an independent discipline with university departments and academic professors. Last year (2023) marked the 60th anniversary of Dr. Richard Scott's historic appointment as the first professor of General Practice/Family Medicine. Through the lens of the first four professors appointed between 1963 and 1969, we explore the 'birth' of general practice to become an academic discipline. In most western countries of today, general practice has become a recognized medical discipline and an important part of the medical education. But many places, this development is lagging behind. Purpose: To explore student and tutor perspectives on the learning efficacy of virtual, compared to in-person, problem-based tutorial (PBT) in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech-language pathology health professional programs. Materials and Methods: This was a quality improvement study using a cross sectional survey at a single institution. Separate student and tutor surveys were disseminated online. Students received the survey at two timepoints, tutors received the survey at one timepoint. Descriptive statistics summarized quantitative survey questions. Chi-squared or Fischer's Exact analyses explored differences between in-person and virtual PBT. Exploratory analyses determined if associations amongst programs and/or between cohorts existed on variables of interest. Open-ended survey questions were analyzed using content analysis. Results: A total of 241 students and 85 tutors completed the survey. Results demonstrate most students and tutors were satisfied with the use of virtual tutorials (77%; 89% respectively) and felt that they were effective in exploring content within the PBT course. However, students in the most recent cohort rated virtual tutorials more highly (p = 0.01). Conclusions: Virtual modes of PBT were successful in achieving course objectives and led to high satisfaction in users. Health professional programs can use this information when designing virtual problem-based tutorial courses in the post-pandemic era. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Problem-based learning (PBL) involves the active engagement of students in self-directed learning where learning gaps are identified, and information is retrieved and critically appraised to apply clinical reasoning to healthcare decisions. Traditionally, the PBL process has been implemented in-person through the use of small group tutorial with six to eight students and a tutor, however, the COVID-19 pandemic led to a quick transition to virtual tutorials. This study found that virtual modes of conducting PBL tutorial were successful in achieving course objectives and both students and tutors were satisfied with using virtual means to achieve course objectives in three professional rehabilitation programs (Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology). Health professional programs in rehabilitation can use this information when designing courses using PBL processes in the future, and clinicians can use this information when considering the use of virtual means for care and for collaboration between professionals in various healthcare settings. Background: Post-extubation dysphagia occurs in 3% to 62% of adults who have received invasive mechanical ventilation in an intensive care unit (ICU). A stepwise approach to identify dysphagia includes a routine swallow screening in patients who are recently extubated followed by a formal assessment by a Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP), in the event of a failed swallow screen, has been suggested. This quality improvement project aimed to implement and evaluate a new post-extubation swallow screening process. Methods: Using the Model for Improvement framework, a new process that included the Yale Swallow Protocol (YSP) was developed, implemented, and evaluated between July and December 2022 in a 20-bed tertiary ICU. All patients with at least four hours post-extubation were included in the project. Process development included a literature review and feedback from ICU educators, nurses, physicians, SLPs, and Registered Dietitians (RDs). Education was provided to critical care nurses prior to implementation. Data on patient characteristics, process indicators, and outcomes were collected between September and December 2022 to evaluate the project implementation. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the data and bivariate analyses were used to compare data between patients who passed and failed the YSP. Results: Fifty-four patients were extubated and evaluated using the new swallow screening process. Post-extubation dysphagia was diagnosed by an SLP in 30.0% of patients. Dysphagia was diagnosed in 90.0% of patients who failed, compared with 8.6% of patients who passed the YSP (P<0.001). This study examined the level of social communication problems (SCP), social anxiety (SA), and mood problems (MP) among children with ASD (age 4–13 years) enrolled in special classes (n = 74) and regular classes (n = 73) and grade level (kindergarten, 1st–3rd, 4th–6th) from teachers' perspective in schools of Palestinian Arabs in Israel. Teachers responded to three questionnaires about (1) SCP, (2) SA and (3) MP; the teachers' responses to the questionnaires were used to answer the research questions. Results: SCP, SA and MP were of medium rates for students with ASD enrolled in regular and special classes. No significant differences in the level of SCP could be attributed to class type (Regular, Special) or the grade level (kindergarten, 1st–3rd, 4th–6th). There were significant differences in SA levels that could be attributed to grade level in favor of the 4th–6th grades but there were no significant differences according to class type (Regular, Special). There were statistically significant differences in MP levels that could be attributed to the class type in favor of special classes, and the effect of grade level was not significant. There was a direct significant relationship between SCP, SA, and MP. Conclusion: SCP may be an important risk factor for the development of SA and MP among students with ASD, which lead us to incorporating social skills interventions by educational staff to alleviate or even prevent symptoms of SA and MP among students with ASD, which supports the view of inclusion [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE: This study delved into the intricate challenges confronted by educators specializing in early childhood education within the realm of remote instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, it scrutinized a spectrum of tactics and interventions implemented to overcome the challenges, presenting nuanced insights to enhance the effectiveness of online pedagogy. METHODS: Conducting a systematic literature review, this study comprehensively analysed academic sources to synthesize challenges faced by preschool teachers and their adaptive strategies during the transition to remote instruction induced by the COVID-19. The investigation focused on online teaching strategies, COVID-19 implications, and the broader landscape of remote learning. RESULTS: The review illuminated intricate challenges, encompassing technological constraints, pedagogical adjustments, and psychological adaptations. This research utilizes intellectual data analysis to deepen insights into educational dynamics by examining university professors' behavioral responses to education management amidst socioeconomic uncertainty. The study applied sophisticated regression and cluster analysis tools to sociological survey data, focusing on professors' attitudes toward distance education. The survey assessed perceptions of its advantages and disadvantages, aiming to uncover factors influencing professors' inclinations toward this mode of teaching. Results revealed six distinct behavioral "profiles" or clusters of professors, each with unique responses to distance education. These insights guide recommendations for educational policy priorities aimed at addressing weaknesses in education management. Key strategies proposed include forming databases of behavioral responses and employing algorithms for deep intellectual analysis. Smartphones and applications (apps) are replacing traditional assistive technology devices for people with vision impairment (PVI) to support their mobility and independence in daily life. However, training and learning support to enable PVI to use this technology to its full advantage requires further research. A better understanding of what, and how, training and learning support is currently being provided is required to inform the future development of training and best practice in the area. This study, using an interpretive descriptive qualitative approach, aimed to explore the perspectives of trainers on the current provision of smartphone training in Australia, Canada, and Singapore. Semi-structured interviews with 22 trainers, including 13 trainers with a vision impairment, discussed how training is currently conducted, the challenges, and their ideas on what would constitute a high-quality or ideal training programme. The data were analysed using thematic analysis and six themes emerged: structure and content of training; training provides hope, independence and connection; trainers' approach and attributes influence training; informal support and other avenues for learning; challenges associated with providing training; and suggestions to improve training. Participants highlighted that smartphone training was a source of hope for PVI and that it enabled independence. The importance of responding to clients' emotional needs, in addition to their learning needs in an individualised and graded approach, was discussed as critical to the success of training. Trainers with vision impairment who weaved their lived experience into the training sessions found this to be beneficial to their clients' learning and adjustment to vision loss. Background: Pulpectomy is used to treat primary teeth with irreversibly inflamed or necrotic pulp tissue. There is, however, a lack of consensus on clinical protocols for teaching pulpectomy at dental schools. Aim: To determine what faculty members at Brazilian dental schools are teaching about pulpectomy in primary teeth. Design: A cross‐sectional, observational study was conducted using a 39‐question survey available via the Google Forms® platform. A snowball sampling strategy was used for recruitment. Invitations to participate were sent via e‐mail, WhatsApp® and Instagram®. The data were analysed descriptively. Results: A total of 177 (58.4%) responses were obtained. Most faculty members recommended the use of Kerr hand files (66.1%), and 1% sodium hypochlorite was the most common choice for the irrigating solution (35.3%). Iodoform pastes were the first choice of faculty members (41.6%), and 60.5% of the faculty members recommended composite resin as the definitive restoration. Background: Compassionate communities have been put forward as a promising model for community-based support for people facing serious illness, caregiving, dying, and loss. In particular, educational institutions are increasingly acknowledged as potential settings to function as compassionate schools and compassionate workplaces, cultivating acceptance and validation of these experiences beyond the university setting. Objectives: This paper investigates the activities and outcomes of a compassionate community initiative—the Compassionate University program at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium. Design: Ripple Effects Mapping was used to guide the focus group and individual interviews conducted with core team members responsible for the development and implementation of the Compassionate University program. Methods: During the focus group and individual interviews, the core team members reflected on the program contributions, with their narratives visually depicted via a hand-drawn mind map. Qualitative data derived from this mind map were entered into XMIND mapping software and fine-tuned based on the focus group and individual interview transcripts and additional project records. Results: Thematic analysis identified four outcome areas that encapsulate the key contributions of the Compassionate University program: (i) increased acceptance and integration of topics such as serious illness, death, and bereavement into existing practices; (ii) broader support for and formalization of compassionate procedures and policies; (iii) emergence of informal networks and internal collaboration on the topics; and (iv) diffusion of compassionate ideas beyond the university. Conclusion: The Compassionate University program facilitates a cultural shift within the university environment, fostering greater acceptance of integrating topics such as serious illness, death, and bereavement into existing practices. Additionally, compassionate procedures and policies for students and staff have been formalized, and core team members are increasingly called upon to provide support on these matters. Notably, Compassionate University stands out as one of the pioneering initiatives in Europe, attracting different educational institutions seeking guidance on cultivating a more compassionate environment. Background: Previous studies have shown that the rapid transition to emergency remote teaching due to the COVID-19 pandemic was challenging for healthcare teachers in many ways. This sudden change made them face ethical dilemmas that challenged their values and ethical competence. Research aim: This study aimed to explore and gain a deeper understanding of the ethical dilemmas healthcare teachers faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Research design: This was an inductive qualitative study using a hermeneutic approach. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and analysed thematically. Participants and research context: Healthcare teachers (n = 20) from eight universities and universities of applied sciences in the Nordic and Baltic countries participated. Ethical considerations: This study was based on the research ethics of the Norwegian National Research Ethics Committee for Medicine and Health Sciences and approved by the Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research. Findings: Healthcare teachers faced several ethical dilemmas due to restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis revealed three main themes: How should I deal with students' ill-being, and what can I as a teacher do?; What can I demand from myself and my students, what is good teaching?; How do I manage the heavy workload and everyone's needs, and who gets my time? Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of healthcare teachers' continuous need for pedagogic and didactic education, especially considering new technology and ethical issues. During the pandemic, the ethical consequences of remote teaching became evident. Ethical values and ethical dilemmas should be addressed in healthcare education programmes at different levels, especially in teacher education programmes. The purpose of this systematic literature review was to understand trends in field experiences that were part of early childhood special education (ECSE) teacher preparation activities in the United States. Thirteen studies that included an analysis of ECSE teacher candidates (TCs) completing at least one field experience, including coursework-based practicums or student teaching internships, were published between 2013 and 2022 and reviewed. Specifically, we examined the demographics of TCs and student participants to understand who was included in this research. Field experience parameters including setting, duration, instructional approach, and instructional focus were reviewed to draw comparisons between the various approaches to structuring TCs' early teaching opportunities. Finally, specific learning activities and feedback opportunities within field experiences, as well as TC and student outcomes of the studies, were explored to determine current trends and findings. Early childhood special education (ECSE) professionals were forced to drastically change their methods of providing services as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this qualitative study, we conducted interviews to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted ECSE professionals both personally and professionally. ECSE professionals described challenges as well as unexpected positive outcomes associated with continuing to work in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Professionals also explained the importance of increasing parent interaction through coaching interventions while engaging in remote service delivery. The findings conclude with professionals' discussions of how the field may be impacted by the pandemic in the future. We explored how teachers perceived challenging behavior in contrast to behaviors that exemplify social-emotional competence, and how descriptions of behavior varied based on child demographics such as gender, race/ethnicity, and disability status. Using a DisCrit lens, we conducted this study under the assumption that perceptions of behavior may be informed by teachers' implicit biases. Fourteen preschool teachers shared their perspectives on behaviors they saw in the classroom, as exemplified by descriptions of the two children they considered the most socially-emotionally successful, A/Z, and the two they considered the most challenging, C/E. Children in the A/Z group were 54% female, 46% male, 54% White, 29% Black, and 82% did not receive special education services or need screening. Children in the C/E group were 86% male, 14% female, 46% Black, 36% White, and 75% were either receiving special education services or identified by teachers as needing a referral for screening. Positive A/Z behaviors included being a model, leader, or helper; having good play skills, manners, and verbal skills; and loving to learn. The challenging behaviors for C/E students included being hard to connect with; engaging in physical aggression and defiance; and having communication difficulties and poor self-regulation skills. These findings help us understand the role of implicit bias, systems issues, and the importance of culturally responsive practices in early childhood settings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To assess the needs of faculty regarding teaching, assessment and research methods so as to develop a faculty development program in a newly established medical college of Lahore. Study Design: Descriptive Cross-sectional study. Setting: Rashid Latif Khan University (RLKU) Medical and Dental College, Lahore. Period: July-December 2023. Methods: Descriptive study was conducted in RLKU Medical College within six months. Structured selfadministered questionnaires were used for data collection via Google forms. A total of 50 faculty members gave data after verbal consent. IRB approvals were taken. Data was analysed using Excel. Frequencies and percentages were calculated. Results: Majority faculty members (88%) preferred student centered teaching approach with the usage (94%) of different methodologies in small group teaching. Feedback was being taken regarding teaching and assessment by majority (90%). Workshops on teaching methodologies was the area of interest especially small group teaching (62%), peer assisted learning (54%), problem based learning (54%) and large group teaching (52%). Most of them expressed need of workshops on assessment especially assessment types (60%), MCQ (56%), OSPE/OSCE (54%) construction. Faculty was of the opinion that workshops on mentoring (72%), reflection (56%), portfolio development (64%), research methodology (76%), computer skills (70%), ethics (60%) and soft skills (82%) need to be conducted. Conclusion: Workshops on teaching methodologies and assessments are essential our study concludes that although most of the faculty is trained but they still feel the need for workshops to keep them updated and trained in major aspects of curriculum delivery as well as research, mentoring, computer and soft skills highlighting the need of a robust faculty development program. Validate the Preschool Nutrition Education Practices Survey. Iterative approach combining design-based research and Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. Los Angeles, CA and Philadelphia, PA Early Care and Education (ECE) classrooms. Expert panel members (n = 7); ECE teachers: interviews (n = 8), pilot survey (n = 31), and final survey (n = 136). Early care and education nutrition education practices used in the classroom either during class time or mealtime. Qualitative content analysis was implemented for content, response process, and consequences of testing validity evidence. Rasch rating scale analysis was conducted for the response process and internal structure validity and reliability evidence. Qualitative field-testing produced strong content, response process, and consequences of testing validity evidence to inform survey modifications. Quantitative field-testing generated a psychometrically sound, well-targeted 12-item survey on a 4-point frequency scale with excellent item and person reliability (0.97 and 0.93 respectively) and separation (5.36 and 3.77 respectively); good Rasch Principal Components Analysis findings (60.3%); and productive item fit statistics (0.50–1.50 logits). Robust validity (content, response process, consequences of testing, internal structure) and reliability evidence were demonstrated for using the Preschool Nutrition Education Practices Survey to assess ECE teachers' use of nutrition education practices. Future research is needed to examine its relationship to other variables, such as nutrition teaching efficacy, and to determine its ability to detect change in ECE nutrition education practices over time and across groups. To provide inclusive education to autistic students, it is important that teachers possess knowledge about autism, feel competent in teaching autistic students, and have a positive attitude toward the inclusion of autistic students. In this study, we explored knowledge, self-efficacy, and attitude concerning autism among N = 887 teachers in Germany. The results showed that knowledge about autism was only moderate and teachers held some typical misconceptions about autism. Moreover, teachers did not possess overwhelmingly high self-efficacy beliefs whereas their attitude toward inclusion of autistic students was rather positive. Experience with teaching autistic students was associated with more knowledge and higher self-efficacy. Also, female teachers were more knowledgeable about autism and felt more competent in teaching autistic students than male teachers. However, the type of school where teachers were working made hardly any difference in their knowledge, self-efficacy, and attitude. Overall, the results suggest that teachers in Germany need more autism training to increase their knowledge about autism and their self-efficacy beliefs in teaching autistic students. Nowadays, autistic students are often enrolled in mainstream schools. To successfully include autistic students in general education, teachers need to possess knowledge about autism, feel competent in teaching autistic students, and have a positive attitude toward their inclusion. However, in Germany, little is known about the knowledge, the self-efficacy, and the attitude concerning autism among teachers working at mainstream schools. Therefore, we conducted a study in which we used items to assess knowledge, self-efficacy, and attitude. A total of 887 general education teachers participated in the study. The results showed that the level of knowledge about autism was moderate among teachers. Similarly, teachers did not hold overwhelmingly high self-efficacy beliefs. However, their attitude toward inclusion of autistic students was rather positive. At the same time, teachers who had experience with teaching autistic students possessed more knowledge and higher self-efficacy than teachers who had no experience with teaching autistic students. In addition, female teachers were more knowledgeable about autism and felt more competent in teaching autistic students than male teachers. In contrast, knowledge, self-efficacy, and attitude were rather similar among teachers from different types of schools. Background: Faculty development (FD) is critical to the implementation of competency-based medical education (CBME) and yet evidence to guide the design of FD activities is limited. Our aim with this study was to describe and evaluate an FD activity as part of CBME implementation. Methods: Palliative medicine faculty were introduced to entrustable professional activities (EPAs) and gained experience estimating a learner's level of readiness for entrustment by directly observing a simulated encounter. The variation that was found among assessments was discussed in facilitated debrief sessions. Attitudes and confidence levels were measured 1 week and 6 months following debriefs. Results: Participants were able to use the EPA framework when estimating the learner's readiness level for entrustment. Significant improvements in attitudes and level of confidence for several knowledge, skill, and behavior domains were maintained over time. For many years, attempts have been made to incorporate service users into psychiatric nursing education, particularly in European countries and Australia. In Asian countries, however, concrete examples of this are notably scarce, and the limited instances of implementation lack the necessary systematic organisation and long‐term sustainability. This study systematically planned and implemented a psychiatric nursing curriculum that integrated service users in Korea. It explored the experiences of 14 nursing students and four service users (who participated as instructors) who participated in these classes. Content analysis was performed on the results of focus group interviews with the participants. Owing to the participation of service users in the programme, students focused more on the patients as human beings, with the contexts of their individual lives, rather than on their diseases. The process facilitated a deeper grasp of person‐centred psychiatric nursing and heightened student engagement in the learning process. The service users' experiences as instructors breathed new meaning into their psychiatric distress as an opportunity for new possibilities and helped them view themselves in a positive light, as members of society with self‐esteem. They made great efforts to perform well in their role as instructors. These findings provide substantial evidence to support the expanded and sustained implementation of service user participation in future psychiatric nursing education. The adoption of information and communication technology is not encouraging in many developing countries and a better understanding of the factors that influence their integration is expected to promote their effective utilization. The study employed the use of the Universal Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) to identify the factors that influence the use of ICT. The study is anchored on a survey research design. Data were collected using a structured online questionnaire (google form). Findings from the study reveal that effort expectancy was related to behavioral intention to use ICT. Performance expectancy was related to behavioral intention to use ICT. The study, therefore, recommends that the universities management should create a conducive environment that will promote the effective use of ICT tools and organize training programmes for the effective use of the tools. The United States faces troubling fertility trends that include high percentages of unintended pregnancies, as well as record-low fertility rates and individuals having fewer offspring than they desire. To address these problems, scholars and public health advocates have argued for the implementation of fertility information into existing sex-education curricula. In this study, we draw from 32 semi-structured interviews with secondary school sex educators to gain insight into their experiences on this front. They contended that one of the greatest barriers to their successfully teaching fertility related material was that students do not find fertility information relevant. Participants described three appeals that they employ to communicate fertility information as persistently relevant to the adolescents in their classes. Our interviews revealed that all three of these relevance appeals employ targeted invitations for students to tailor fertility information in ways that fit them personally. These findings suggest a need to re-conceptualize targeting and tailoring research in ways that connect with the goals of in situ, relevance-oriented communication, and they indicate how a focus on teaching health educators to establish fertility as relevant would help to situate future generations for better sexual and reproductive health over a lifetime. Intensive interventions are time- and resource-demanding interventions designed to be implemented with a single student with unique learning needs. Economic evaluation provides a methodology for evaluating the time and material resource costs of implementing these interventions to provide detailed feasibility information for educators considering their implementation. This study presents a cost analysis of the time and materials required to implement an intensive intervention, I-Connect, and compares those costs to the reported effects, from the perspective of the intervention agent and recipient (i.e., teacher and student) using time as the primary cost metric. The results suggest the total time cost of implementing I-Connect falls within the time teachers and students are likely to have available. Furthermore, teachers will likely find I-Connect to be a cost-effective option for generating a 50% increase in on-task behavior if they have an initial 40 min of available time to become familiar with the intervention procedures, prepare the intervention, train the student to engage in self-monitoring, and initiate a 10-min session of I-Connect. BACKGROUND: Psychosocial support provision in schools is a promising strategy for overcoming barriers to accessing mental health care. This study aimed to assess teachers' knowledge, attitudes, practices, skills, and perceived barriers in providing psychosocial support to students in Jordan. METHODS: The sample included teachers working in public schools, private schools, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) schools, and Zaatari camp schools, as well as non‐formal education centers. The study utilized a multi‐stage stratified cluster sampling technique to select a nationally representative sample. RESULTS: A total of 549 teachers were included, and only 25.2% have ever received mental health training. Most teachers reported a high level of good and acceptable knowledge of psychosocial support and had a positive attitude toward the provision of psychosocial support, however, about a quarter (25.5%) agreed on feeling nervous in discussing students' psychosocial problems with their parents or school administrators. The least enacted practice was the systematic engagement with parents, school administration, and other community resources in students' well‐being (sometimes, 31.6%; rarely, 20.4%). Gaps in skills were mainly in communicating with external resources and parents. The main barriers included parents' misunderstanding of teachers' role in providing psychosocial support to students (56.8%), lack of integration of psychosocial support in the curriculum (55.6%), and challenges in identifying students with psychosocial problems due to large class sizes (54.3%). CONCLUSION: The results show that gaps extend beyond the individual level of teachers to the community level. School‐based psychosocial support interventions must consider the multiple factors that influence their implementation at multiple levels, including the individual, relational, community, and societal levels. This study investigates how academic staff achieves career satisfaction (CS) and life satisfaction (LS) under direct and different configurations of servant leadership (SL) dimensions. Using a survey of academics in Spain, China, and Pakistan, this study uses Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the direct relationship, and fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) to find configurations of SL dimensions that lead to career and LS. Direct relationships revealed that in each country, almost all dimensions failed to create any individual impact on CS and LS. The fsQCA results revealed an asymmetric relationship between the different SL dimensions and outcomes. Prior SL, CS, and LS research has primarily relied on symmetrical correlational methods. This is one of the first studies to use fsQCA in SL, CS, and LS in higher education literature. Furthermore, there is significantly limited research on SL in a cross-country setting. Although recent literature has emphasized the value of African-centered schools among Black youth, little is known about the factors that make Afrocentric schools successful. The current study examined experienced educators' perceptions of their PK − 8 Afrocentric schools using a qualitative focus group interview (n = 7). Drawing from care ethics and the Integrative Model for the Study of Stress in Black American Families, researchers identified three key themes: (1) the formative Influence of upbringing experiences inspiring many educators to work at Afrocentric schools; (2) educators' understanding of the utility of Afrocentric education as foundational to student development and building a community of care; and (3) the dual and synergistic influence of both racial and cultural socialization on educators' outlook of students' character development. Aim: To identify and synthesize research on the awareness, attitudes and action related to sustainability and climate change from the perspective of nursing students and educators globally. Design: Integrative review. Methods: The review was guided by Whittemore and Knafl. Included studies were appraised using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. A deductive content analysis based on Elo and Kyngäs' methodology was employed. Data Sources: CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, British Education Index, GreenFILE and Scopus were searched up to the 8th November 2022. Results: Thirty‐two studies were included in the review. Two studies included nursing educators in their samples, the rest focused solely on students. Findings suggest that whilst some students were aware of sustainability issues and felt that nurses have a responsibility to mitigate climate change, others showed limited awareness and believed that nurses have more important priorities. A global interest was seen among students for increased curricular content related to sustainability and climate change. Waste management and education of others were suggested actions students can take; however, barriers included lack of confidence and limited power. Conclusion: There is a need for sustainability education within nursing curricula, accompanied by student support. Implications for the Profession: The review acts as a starting point to make sustainable healthcare and climate change mitigation integral aspects of nursing. Impact: Sustainability education within nursing curricula can positively impact on sustainable healthcare and climate change mitigation. Although access to effective medical care for acutely sick children has improved globally, the number of children surviving but who may not be thriving due to disability, is increasing. This study aimed to understand the views of health professionals, educators and caregivers of pre-school children with disabilities in Malawi, Pakistan and Uganda regarding early identification, referral and support. Using applied thematic analysis, we identified themes relating to; limited 'demand' by caregivers for services; different local beliefs and community perceptions regarding the causes of childhood disability. Themes relating to 'supply' of services included inability to respond to community needs, and inadequate training among professionals for identification and referral. Stepwise, approaches provided to the families, community health worker and higher-level services could include training for community and primary care health workers on basic identification techniques and enhanced awareness for families and communities on the importance of early identification of children with disabilities. Lack of collaboration between the community and health services may lead to entrenched pessimistic views of what can be done to support children with disabilities - generating a greater mistrust and low parental take-up of vital health services. If parents do not receive help at the community and clinic level, then, there is a need to move away from trying to provide a 'specific diagnosis' to working more on a level of assessing the child's functioning in terms of what their limitations are and how they can be addressed. Any identification and referral programme needs to consider the varying local beliefs, the stigma of having a child with a disability and feelings of blame, right from the start. A stepwise, incremental approaches, ranging from the provision of basic information, such as using brief materials highlighting 'red flag' milestones and conditions which are linked to guidance for support to families, community health workers, as well as higher levels of medical services, are likely to work best.
