Neste artigo, temos como objetivo analisar os processos de estigmatização e patologização aos quais determinados grupos de inscrições corporais foram submetidos ao longo da história da sociedade ocidental moderna. Compreende-se como inscrições corporais todas e quaisquer modificações realizadas sobre a superfície corporal. Enquanto algumas inscrições são exaltadas e enaltecidas, outras são estigmatizadas e alvo de discriminação social. Temos como lente teórica a filosofia anarquista, no intuito de reivindicar a autodeterminação e a autonomia de sujeitos cujas inscrições são marginalizadas, desde aquelas consideradas automutilações até as modificações corporais extremas. Temos como método a revisão bibliográfica. Concluímos, após revisão teórica, que a qualificação de certas inscrições corporais enquanto aceitas e positivas em detrimento da desqualificação de outras, que são tidas como negativas e bizarras, não são processos naturais, mas sim provenientes da densa estruturação de discursos religiosos, psiquiátricos e políticos. A origem da legitimação de certas inscrições é a mesma da deslegitimação e consequente estigmatização, isto é, a autoridade, que provém do Estado, da Igreja e do Hospital, como procuramos argumentar.

Este artigo possui como objeto de análise a negação da cisgeneridade em relação a si própria em espaços institucionalizados de produção de conhecimento. A cisgeneridade, institucionalizada tal como a heterossexualidade e a branquitude, é fator central, porém não nomeado, nos estudos sobre gênero e sexualidade. No entanto, ao nomearmos a cisgeneridade, nos deparamos comumente com sua rejeição enquanto conceito. Argumentamos, a partir de nossa experiência como corpos trans na academia, que esta rejeição toma forma de um fenômeno, o qual nomeamos de “ofensa da nomeação”.

The home industry laundry has grown rapidly. However, the growth of this industry has also led to an increase in the volume of laundry wastewater that is discharged into water bodies. This can affect the condition of water bodies, especially since the waste contains phosphates as detergent builders. Therefore, an effective wastewater treatment technology is needed. This research aims to analyze the efficiency of the modified electrocoagulation-adsorption reactor in reducing the concentration of phosphate and TSS in laundry wastewater. Laundry wastewater was flowed at a rate of 0.2 L/minute in the electrocoagulation process with a current strength of 5 A for 60 minutes, followed by column adsorption for 90 minutes conducted in one experimental reactor. Aluminum electrodes and zeolite adsorbent media were used in this experiment. The variables measured were the sampling time intervals between 150-300 minutes with a 30-minute interval. The research results show that the modification of the electrocoagulation-adsorption reactor is capable of reducing the concentration of phosphate and TSS in laundry wastewater. The best efficiency for phosphate reduction occurred at 210 minutes with an efficiency of 97.67%. Meanwhile, the optimal TSS reduction occurred at 300 minutes with an efficiency of 84.26%.

Neste artigo, temos como objetivo analisar o que denominamos de “ofensa da nomeação”, remetendo ao conjunto de mecanismos utilizados pela cisgeneridade para negar sua localização social cisgênera. Ao contrário das terminologias voltadas à transgeneridade, que surgiram ao final do século XIX e ganharam força na década de 1960, o conceito de cisgeneridade surgiu somente nas últimas décadas do século passado, e tem ganhado força recentemente. Se a transgeneridade foi nomeada por pessoas cisgêneras em uma ótica de patologização e com aportes institucionais acadêmicos, a cisgeneridade foi nomeada por pessoas trans por uma lente crítica e de oposição às normas de gênero da modernidade/colonialidade; é um conceito criado no seio de movimentos sociais, fora da academia. Percebe-se uma diferença concreta entre os discursos de pessoas trans e os de pessoas cis sobre seus pertencimentos sociais, remetendo-nos à recusa, por parte de pessoas cis, em reconhecerem sua cisgeneridade. Desse modo, procuramos investigar os obstáculos que perpassam a aplicação e o reconhecimento do conceito de cisgeneridade por pessoas cisgêneras, especialmente no meio acadêmico, que é o território de nossa pesquisa.

Aims To explore prognostic multimarker models for progression to macular fibrosis (MF) over 24 months specific to type 3 macular neovascularisation (T3 MNV). Methods This retrospective, exploratory, single-centre, cohort study comprised 65 eyes of 43 Caucasian patients with treatment naive T3 MNV, all with a 24-month follow-up post anti-VEGF therapy using a strict pro-re-nata (PRN) regimen. Data on demographic features, clinical findings, frequency of intravitreal treatments and optical coherence tomography biomarkers were collected at baseline and after 12 and 24 months of follow-up. Logistic regression models (LRM) and receiver-operating curve (C-index) analyses were performed to evaluate the prognostic ability of the studied biomarkers in discriminating between MF affected and unaffected patients. Results At final follow-up, MF was present in 46.2% of eyes. Subretinal hyper-reflective material (SHRM) and subretinal pigment epithelium multilaminar hyper-reflectivity (multilaminae) emerged as significant predictors for MF, with adjusted odds ratios (OR) of 18.0 (95% CL 13.4 to 24.1) and 11.8 (95% CL 8.66 to 16.0), respectively. Additionally, the presence of multifocal lesions (OR 0.04, 95% CL 0.01 to 0.30) appeared to decrease the likelihood of MF. C-indexes for the selected LRMs ranged between 0.92 and 0.88, indicating a comparably high discriminant ability. Despite consistent treatment schedules between the two groups (MF: median intravitreal treatment (IVT) number=10.5, IQR=7; non-MF: median IVT=10, IQR=6), a decline in best-corrected visual acuity was noted in the group with MF onset over the 24-month follow-up (-13.0 ETDRS letters; 95% CL -22.1 to -3.9; p=0.006). Conclusion Our study identifies SHRM and multilaminae as relevant predictors of 24-month onset of MF in patients with T3 MNV. These findings enrich our understanding of the development of MF in T3 MNV and can guide improved risk prognostication. Apparu vers la fin des années 1980 aux États-Unis et arrivé une décennie après en France, le slam est une pratique d’écriture et d'art oratoire mêlant poésie et spectacle vivant. Depuis deux décennies, c’est l’une des formes les plus émergentes de la littérature orale, une néo-orature (Bobillot, Quand 114) qui présente ses formes esthétiques, des règles et un contrat de communication spécifique. Après bref rappel historique, notre analyse se propose d’explorer ses modalités performatives nous focalisant en particulier sur les dynamiques de cocréation poétique qui naissent de l’influence entre slammeurs et public.

Purpose: to report a case of Acute Disseminated EncephaloMyelitis (ADEM) occurring after documented SARS-Cov2 infection and flu-like disease. Observation: A 59-years-old woman presented with progressive visual loss and right leg paresthesia started 6 days earlier when CT scan excluded abnormalities. Visual acuity was OU hand motion with bilateral slow pupillary response and unremarkable ocular extrinsic motility while visual field testing showed diffuse bilateral sensitivity reduction. The patient had also right leg paresthesia and reported a 2-weeks flu-like syndrome 15 days earlier, with nausea, diarrhea, anosmia, ageusia, cough. Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging revealed bilateral optic nerve enhancement, multiple brain and spine lesions. SARS-CoV-2 PCR tested negative on nasal swab and positive on cerebrospinal fluid. Patient's serum tested positive for anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG, negative for anti-aquaporin-4 and anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibodies. A diagnosis of suspect ADEM post SARS-CoV-2 infection was made and treatment with high dose intravenous methylprednisolone (with subsequent prednisone tapering) and immunoglobulins started. Ten days later vision improved to 20/30 RE and 20/25 LE and 3 months later to 20/20. Conclusion and Importance: ADEM may ensue after SARS-CoV-2 virus infection. High suspicious index and prompt aggressive treatment may result in complete vision restauration.

In times of crisis, including the current COVID-19 pandemic, the supply chain of filtering facepiece respirators, such as N95 respirators, are disrupted. To combat shortages of N95 respirators, many institutions were forced to decontaminate and reuse respirators. While several reports have evaluated the impact on filtration as a measurement of preservation of respirator function after decontamination, the equally important fact of maintaining proper fit to the users’ face has been understudied. In the current study, we demonstrate the complete inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 and preservation of fit test performance of N95 respirators following treatment with dry heat. We apply scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements, Raman spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements to analyze filter material changes as a consequence of different decontamination treatments. We further compared the integrity of the respirator after autoclaving versus dry heat treatment via quantitative fit testing and found that autoclaving, but not dry heat, causes the fit of the respirator onto the users face to fail, thereby rendering the decontaminated respirator unusable. Our findings highlight the importance to account for both efficacy of disinfection and mask fit when reprocessing respirators to for clinical redeployment.

Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial disease that represents one of the most common ophthalmologic conditions encountered in everyday clinical practice. Traditional diagnostic tests for DED, such as subjective questionnaires, tear film break-up time and the Schirmer test, are often associated with poor reproducibility and reliability, which make the diagnosis, follow-up, and management of the disease challenging. New advances in imaging technologies enable objective and reproducible measurements of DED parameters, thus making the diagnosis a multimodal imaging-based process. The aim of this review is to summarize all the current and emerging diagnostic tools available for the diagnosis and monitoring of DED, such as non-invasive tear breakup time, thermography, anterior segment optical coherence tomography, meibography, interferometry, in vivo confocal microscopy, and optical quality assessment. Although there is not a gold standard imaging technique, new multi-imaging-integrated devices are precious instruments to help clinicians to better cope with the diagnostic complexity of DED.

In this article, we aim to analyze the processes of stigmatization and pathologization to which certain groups of bodily inscriptions have been submitted throughout the history of modern western society. Body inscriptions are understood to be any and all modifications carried out on the body surface. While some inscriptions are exalted and praised, others are stigmatized and the target of social discrimination. We have as a theoretical lens the anarchist philosophy, in order to claim self-determination and autonomy of subjects whose inscriptions are marginalized, from those considered self-mutilation to extreme body modifications. Our method is the bibliographic review. We conclude, after a theoretical review, that the qualification of certain bodily inscriptions as accepted and positive to the detriment of the disqualification of others, which are considered negative and bizarre, are not natural processes, but rather come from the dense structuring of religious, psychiatric, and political discourses. The origin of the legitimation of certain inscriptions is the same as the delegitimation and consequent stigmatization, that is, the authority, which comes from the State, the Church, and the Hospital, as we seek to argue.
