Mental health is equally important with physical health. Many reports found out that poor mental health is one of the major factors of depression among seafarers. This study ascertains the factors affecting mental health and the strategies applied by Filipino seafarers to combat these issues. A survey was used as a research design. A total of 100 seafarers taken through convenience and snowball sampling answered the validated researcher-made questionnaire. The questionnaire was sent in the JBLFMU Alumni Portal, messenger, and Gmail. Frequency, percentage, and rank were used. Themes were used to classify the strategies applied by seafarers to counteract mental health issues onboard ship. The results revealed that the major contributory factor affecting the mental health of Filipino seafarers is stress, while they believed that a positive outlook in life makes one’s self free from mental health problems onboard. The top three factors are stress, fatigue, and separation from families and friends. The top three strategies to counteract factors that affect seafarers’ mental health onboard ship are staying positive, socializing with crewmates, and communicating with family. Lymphedema and specifically cancer-related lymphedema is not the main focus for both patients and physicians dealing with cancer. Its etiology is an unfortunate complication of cancer treatment. Although lymphedema treatments have gained an appreciable consensus, many practitioners have developed and prefer their own specific protocols and this is especially true for conventional (manual) versus surgical treatments. This collection of presentations explores the incidence and genetics of cancer-related lymphedema, early detection and monitoring techniques, both conventional and operative treatment options, and the importance and role of exercise for patients with cancer-related lymphedema. These assembled presentations provide valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by cancer-related lymphedema including the latest research, treatments, and exercises available to improve patient outcomes and quality of life., (© 2023. The majority of the results on modeling recurrent neural networks (RNNs) are obtained using delayed differential equations, which imply continuous time representation. On the other hand, these models must be discrete in time, given their practical implementation in computer systems, requiring their versatile utilization across arbitrary time scales. Hence, the goal of this research is to model and investigate the architecture design of a delayed RNN using delayed differential equations on a time scale. Internal memory can be utilized to describe the calculation of the future states using discrete and distributed delays, which is a representation of the deep learning architecture for artificial RNNs. We focus on qualitative behavior and stability study of the system. Special attention is paid to taking into account the effect of the time-scale parameters on neural network dynamics. Here, we delve into the exploration of exponential stability in RNN models on a time scale that incorporates multiple discrete and distributed delays. Two approaches for constructing exponential estimates, including the Hilger and the usual exponential functions, are considered and compared. The Lyapunov-Krasovskii (L-K) functional method is employed to study stability on a time scale in both cases. The established stability criteria, resulting in an exponential-like estimate, utilizes a tuple of positive definite matrices, decay rate, and graininess of the time scale. The models of RNNs for the two-neuron network with four discrete and distributed delays, as well as the ring lattice delayed network of seven identical neurons, are numerically investigated. The results indicate how the time scale (graininess) and model characteristics (weights) influence the qualitative behavior, leading to a transition from stable focus to quasiperiodic limit cycles.

We present a rocking filter in a highly birefringent two-mode fiber that enables resonant coupling between different modes in the LP 11 group. Our simulations and experimental results prove that such a filter allows for resonant coupling between orthogonally polarized LP 11 modes of the same spatial structure, as well as between modes of the same polarizations and orthogonal spatial distributions. Furthermore, we demonstrate that such rocking filters can be used to generate pure TE 01 , TM 01 and HE 21 beams or their coherent superposition.

We demonstrate a fiber-based optical vortex beam source operating in broadband or tunable mode in the spectral range of 1100-1400 nm. The vector vortices of the total angular momenta equal to +2, 0, and -2 are obtained by converting the respective linearly polarized (LP 11 ) modes of the two-mode birefringent PANDA fiber with stress-applying elements by gradually twisting its output section. At the input end, the PANDA fiber is powered by broadband supercontinuum or tunable Raman solitons generated in the LP 11 polarization modes of a birefringent microstructured fiber with a specially designed dispersion profile and coupled to the respective LP 11 modes of the PANDA fiber. Two pulse lasers operating in different regimes (1 ns/1064 nm and 190 fs/1037 nm) were used as the pump to generate supercontinuum or tunable solitons directly in the LP 11 modes of the microstructured fiber purely excited with a special Wollaston prism-based method. The high modal and polarization purities of the beams after successive transformations were experimentally confirmed. We also proved the vortex nature of the output beams using shearing interferometry.

This manuscript is a summary of findings focusing on various aspects of secondary lymphedema specifically as a sequelae of treatment for cancer. The topic was addressed at a session held during the 8th International Congress on Cancer Metastasis that was unique a for the inclusion of patients with lymphedema and therapists joining physicians, healthcare professionals, and researchers in an effort to give an overview of secondary lymphedema following cancer therapy as well as highlighting the unknowns in the field. Lymphedema is defined and both diagnosis and incidence of cancer-related lymphedema are explored. Further, exploration of imaging options for lymphedema and information on the genetic research for patients with cancer-related secondary lymphedema are presented. Patient education and early detection methods are then explored followed by conservative treatment. Finally, an examination of surgical treatment methods available for patients with lymphedema is covered. Overall, this manuscript presents valuable information and updates for those not familiar with incidence, diagnosis, early detection, and rehabilitation of patients with cancer-related secondary lymphedema., (© 2021.
