Natural indigo, the most widely produced and utilized natural dye, encounters quality challenges due to the lack of standardization in the natural dye industry. Rapid determination of natural indigo dye contents before the dyeing process appears extremely important. In this study, two prediction models for different concentrations were established using partial least squares in conjunction with near-infrared analysis quantitatively to analyze the natural indigo dye content. A total of 228 indigo samples were collected from 14 different dyestuffs across various regions, with concentrations ranging from 100 to 1000 mg/L and 10 to 100 mg/L, respectively. The spectral pre-processing methods of multiplicative scatter correction plus first-order derivative and Savitzky–Golay smoothing plus band normalization plus first-order derivative were selected to enhance the model prediction accuracy. The optimized model exhibited excellent prediction accuracy. Within the concentration range of 100–1000 mg/L, the model has an R 2 value of 0.9994, and a root mean square error of prediction value of 6.36 mg/L. In the concentration range of 10–100 mg/L, the model returned an R 2 value of 0.9907, and a root mean square error of prediction value of 2.80 mg/L. The model's detection limit stands at 49.2 mg/L. The results demonstrated that the near-infrared models developed in this study can be used rapidly and accurately for the quantitative determination of natural indigo dyes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Significant interest has emerged for the application of Pd-In2O3 catalysts as high-performance catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation to CH3OH. However, precise active site control in these catalysts and understanding their reaction mechanisms remain major challenges. In this investigation, a series of Pd-InOx catalysts were synthesized, revealing three distinct types of active sites: In-O, Pd-O(H)-In, and Pd2In3. Lower Pd loadings exhibited Pd-O(H)-In sites, while higher loadings resulted in Pd2In3 intermetallic compounds. These variations impacted catalytic performance, with Pd-O(H)-In catalysts showing heightened activity at lower temperatures due to the enhanced CO2 adsorption and H2 activation, and Pd2In3 catalysts performing better at elevated temperatures due to the further enhanced H2 activation. In situ DRIFTS studies revealed an alteration in key intermediates from *HCOO over In-O bonds to *COOH over Pd-O(H)-In and Pd2In3 sites, leading to a shift in the main reaction pathway transition and product distribution. Our findings underscore the importance of active site engineering for optimizing catalytic performance and offer valuable insights for the rational design of efficient CO2 conversion catalysts. Defect manipulation in metal oxide is of great importance in boosting catalytic performance for propane oxidation. Herein, a selective atom removal strategy was developed to construct a defective manganese oxide catalyst, which involved the partial etching of a Mg dopant in MnOx. The resulting MgMnOx-H catalysts exhibited superior low-temperature catalytic activity (T50 = 185 °C, T90 = 226 °C) with a propane conversion rate of 0.29 μmol·gcat.−1·h−1 for the propane oxidation reaction, which is 4.8 times that of pristine MnOx. Meanwhile, a robust hydrothermal stability was guaranteed at 250 °C for 30 h of reaction time. The comprehensive experimental characterizations revealed that the catalytic performance improvement was closely related to the defective structures including the abundant (metal and oxygen) vacancies, distorted crystals, valence imbalance, etc., which prominently weakened the Mn-O bond and stimulated the mobility of surface lattice oxygen, leading to the elevation in the intrinsic oxidation activity. This work exemplifies the significance of defect engineering for the promotion of the oxidation ability of metal oxide, which will be valuable for the further development of efficient non-noble metal catalysts for propane oxidation. Ruthenium (Ru) has been regarded as one of the most promising alternatives to substitute Pt for catalyzing alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), owing to its inherent high activity and being the cheapest platinum‐group metal. Herein, based on the idea of strong metal–support interaction (SMSI) regulation, Ru/TiN catalysts with different degrees of TiN overlayer over Ru nanoparticles were fabricated, which were applied to the alkaline electrolytic water. Characterizations reveal that the TiN overlayer would gradually encapsulate the Ru nanoparticles and induce more electron transfer from Ru nanoparticles to TiN support by the Ru–N–Ti bond as the SMSI degree increased. Further study shows that the exposed Ru–TiN interfaces greatly promote the H2 desorption capacity. Thus, the Ru/TiN‐300 with a moderate SMSI degree exhibits excellent HER performance, with an overpotential of 38 mV at 10 mA cm−2. Also, due to the encapsulation role of TiN overlayer on Ru nanoparticles, it displays super long‐term stability with a very slight potential change after 24 h. This study provides a deep insight into the influence of the SMSI effect between Ru and TiN on HER and offers a novel approach for preparing efficient and stable HER electrocatalysts through SMSI engineering. Interface engineering in electrode materials is an attractive strategy for enhancing charge storage, enabling fast kinetics, and improving cycling stability for energy storage systems. Nevertheless, the performance improvement is usually ambiguously ascribed to the "synergetic effect", the fundamental understanding toward the effect of the interface at molecular level in composite materials remains elusive. In this work, a well‐defined nanoscale MoS2/TiO2 interface is rationally designed by immobilizing TiO2 nanocrystals on MoS2 nanosheets. The role of heterostructure interface between TiO2 and MoS2 by operando synchrotron X‐ray diffraction (sXRD), solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance, and density functional theory calculations is investigated. It is found that the existence of a hetero‐interfacial electric field can promote charge transfer kinetics. Based on operando sXRD, it is revealed that the heterostructure follows a solid‐solution reaction mechanism with small volume changes during cycling. As such, the electrode demonstrates ultrafast Na+ ions storage of 300 mAh g−1 at 10 A g−1 and excellent reversible capacity of 540 mAh g−1 at 0.2 A g−1. This work provides significant insights into understanding of heterostructure interface at molecular level, which suggests new strategies for creating unconventional nanocomposite electrode materials for energy storage systems.
