This Article examines tbe 1948 Displaced Persons Act wbicb provided for tbe ability of certain European refugees to immigrate to tbe United States following World War IL The 1948 Act discriminated against Jewish survivors of the Holocaust and imprinted Nazi racial laws and ideology upon U.S. law. Moreover, in debates over passage ofs•cb a law, a vast amount ofovert antisemitism emerged, generated by politicians and ordina77 citizens, wbicb went well beyond the question of the admission ofrd•gees to the United States. By examining tbe complex and transnational events leading up to tbe 1948 Displaced Persons Act. and drawing upon underutilized archival material, tbis Article helps to uncover and explain antisemitism in tbe immediate post-war period.
