This document is a symposium introduction written by Spencer Weber Waller, the John Paul Stevens Chair in Competition Law at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Waller discusses his experience as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Zagreb and his participation in the eighth Šoljan Conference on Competition Law and Policy in Dubrovnik, Croatia. He highlights the importance of the conference and the legacy of Professor Vedran Šoljan, a pioneer in Croatia's competition law. Waller also mentions a panel on Consumer Antitrust Private Enforcement in Europe, which inspired the creation of a mini symposium to publish the papers from the panel. The constellation fish, Valenciennellus tripunctulatus, is a small mesopelagic teleost typically found in equatorial and temperate waters worldwide, although the species has been also rarely recorded in the Mediterranean Sea (less than 20 specimens from the available literature since 1918). The Mediterranean records have been documented for the Strait of Messina, the southern Tyrrhenian Sea, the Ligurian Sea and the Adriatic Sea. The present paper offers an updated review on the occurrence of V. tripunctulatus in the Mediterranean basin and provides data on three new specimens, collected in the Strait of Messina between April 2010 and March 2024. Furthermore, we also report information from two individuals found in March 1992 and February 2017, respectively. Overall, the standard length of these specimens ranged from 24.1 to 28.2 mm, whereas weight varied from 0.18 g to 0.20 g. Morphometric and meristic data were reported, and this analysis revealed few differences between examined individuals in the number of PV (ventral series anterior to pelvic fin base) and AC (from anal fin origin to caudal fin base) photophore series. The relationship between total length and standard length (SL = 0.75 × TL + 2.98), total length and head length (HL = 0.17 × TL + 1.47) and standard length and head length (HL = 0.23 × SL + 0.88) showed high correlation values. Considering the lack of data on this species in the Mediterranean, updating morphometric, meristic, biological, ecological and distribution information is very important for taxonomic purposes and useful in understanding the characteristics of the regional population and eventual differences between Mediterranean stock(s) and those from other oceanic areas. Livestock farming feed in the northern highlands of Peru is based on the association of ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.) ecotype cajamarquino–white clover (Trifolium repens L.) Ladino variety, which constantly varies in its agronomic characteristics and nutritional value due to management considerations and its association with the soil and the animal. The objective of this study was to evaluate yield, plant height, growth rate, tillering, tiller number, spikelets, basal diameter in ryegrass, elongation rate, internode length and decline points in clover over one year. Nutritive value was represented by crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), in vitro digestibility of dry matter (IVDDM) and metabolisable energy (ME) at three cutting frequencies (30, 45 and 60 days). Better yield (5588 kg DM ha) and plant height (47.1 cm) were shown by the 60-day cutting frequency; however, there was no difference (p > 0.05) between the three cutting frequencies in annual yield. There were no differences between the number of tillers and basal diameter. Clover height, elongation rate and internode length were higher at 60 days. The highest CP concentration and the lowest NDF value (p < 0.05) were achieved by clover at 30 and 45 days. The Mediterrane an Sea is a biodiversity hotspot, being home to a vast array of marine species. Furthermore, seawater warming is facilitating the arrival and spread of new thermophilic species, posing a severe threat to biodiversity. Among the species currently extending their range and increasing in abundance in Mediterranean waters, sea chubs (genus Kyphosus) are one of the most enigmatic. One challenge arises from the high phenotypic similarity between the two congeneric species documented in the basin: Kyphosus vaigiensis and Kyphosus sectatrix. Their resemblance has often led to identification challenges, resulting in incorrect or omitted species-level classifications. Therefore, despite the growing presence of these fish in the Mediterranean, it remains unclear whether only one or both species are experiencing a demographic increase and range extension. To date, there have been 26 reports of Kyphosus individuals in the Mediterranean Sea, documented in 24 separate papers. Here, we reviewed the history of the genus in the basin and provided 13 new records of these fish from multiple localities along Mediterranean coasts. In addition, we sequenced the entire mitogenomes of two specimens, assessed their phylogenetic relationships with published Kyphosus mitochondrial DNAs from around the world, and conducted detailed morphological and meristic analyses on one of them, allowing us to provide accurate species-level identifications. Our results indicate that K. vaigiensis is the species currently expanding its range in the Mediterranean Sea, while K. sectatrix is still very rare and only sporadically reported. Notably, our mitogenome data indicate that Mediterranean K. vaigiensis individuals most likely came from Atlantic waters, while there is no evidence to support an entrance through the Red Sea or any other anthropogenic vector. The heterobranch Elysia timida is reported as a new species for the malacofauna of Bosnia and Herzegovina based on the finding of a single specimen collected on the 28th February 2021 in the shallow waters of the Neum Bay, Klek Peninsula. Considering the scarcity of previous studies on marine Heterobranchia in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with only 6 species recorded so far, the present record extends the knowledge about this group of molluscs in the area and first summarises the species known from country. Intercultural education and the pedagogy of recognition are among the fundamental dimensions of contemporary education in European schools. The recognition of the role that learning about religions and drawing lessons from them plays in creating a cohesive society is becoming more widespread. European educational policies suggest integrating intercultural competence into the professional identity of teachers in all subjects, including religious education teachers. Intercultural learning is a constitutive part of shaping the identity of all religious communities. The intercultural sensitivity of religious education teachers, along with attitudes and behaviours that reflect openness, adaptability, and communication with those of different cultural and religious backgrounds, influences the development of intercultural competence in students. This paper examines differences in the intercultural sensitivity of religious education teachers from various religious communities in Croatia in relation to their intercultural experiences, gender, and acquired theoretical knowledge. The research utilised a quantitative methodology, and the analysis of results incorporated descriptive and differential statistics (t-test). Although the teachers demonstrated a relatively high level of intercultural sensitivity, differences were still evident among the groups. Understanding the concept of the religious dimension of intercultural education emerged as a significant factor influencing the ethnorelative or ethnocentric attitudes and behaviours of religious education teachers. Differences observed in intercultural experiences and gender lead to the conclusion that there is a need to create equal opportunities in intercultural education for both men and women. Additionally, there is a need to increase opportunities for intercultural exchanges and encounters with members of other cultures and religions to enable teachers to develop a more open identity. Over the last decade, there has been a proliferation of mass antitrust damages cases before national courts of Member States. The procedural landscape varies very much, however, a number of MS have some form of compensatory and/or injunctive collective tool for consumers and other categories of victims from antitrust violations. Croatia has no such system in place, so the purpose of this article is to analyse the potential and limits of assignment and bundling of claims as an alternative to a full-fledged collective compensatory redress mechanism. The paper identifies advantages and possible disadvantages and limitations of this tool. The author argues, that while the general rules of contract law offer wide discretion and possibilities to organize a ‘collective’ action for damages though mass assignment, it falls short of consumer protection measures. This paper analyses the development of private actions for damages as a significant pillar of private enforcement of EU competition law and discusses the quantification and estimation of harm. Since the adoption of the EU Directive 2014/104/EU on Antitrust Damages Actions, private enforcement in Europe has undergone crucial clarifications in the case law of EU courts, yet the critical issue of quantifying damages in private actions has only recently been addressed by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). This paper takes a closer look at the recent ruling in the Tráficos Manuel Ferrer case (C-312/21) and assesses the implications of that case law for private enforcement proceedings. Concerning the allocation of procedural costs, this judgment has established that injured parties may be required to bear a cost risk, even if they are partially successful. This finding needs further reflection in the context of consumer claims for damages, as it is susceptible to add an additional cost burden on plaintiffs. The second intricate finding concerns the relation between the ability of national courts to estimate damages and the exhaustion of evidence disclosure. Taking the example of Spain, the paper advocates for the specific inclusion of the principle of proportionality when determining harm in private actions for damages and especially in cases involving consumers or smaller harmed parties. This paper discusses the use of the concept of Fair Funds for consumer competition law enforcement from an EU perspective. With such Fair Funds, the US Securities and Exchange Commission distributes collected fines and disgorged profits to compensate victims of securities law violations. The paper explains the use of Fair Funds in US law, highlights similarities, and adapts the concept for use in European competition law enforcement. It places an emphasis on the usefulness of such a concept against the role of consumers, but the conclusions can equally be drawn for small and medium enterprises’ private enforcement or private enforcement of competition law in general. It shows the advantages and disadvantages of including a system of Fair Funds. The paper argues that Fair Funds can serve as an alternative form of compensation, particularly for large groups of individual victims harmed in a small amount, such as consumers, with that overcome the lack of a harmonized collective redress system on EU level, and improve the coordination between public and private enforcement. Maintaining biodiversity in agrocenoses is becoming an important element of sustainable development strategies. Flower strips can perform various functions, and their use in the agricultural landscape is a form of a natural mechanism for regulating the agricultural habitat and improving the effectiveness of biological methods of combating crop pests. This manuscript is a case study in Wielkopolska National Park, a valuable wildlife area situated in a temperate zone characteristic of the climate conditions of western Poland. The purpose of this study was to analyze the species composition of plants in a flower strip two years after sowing a mixture of seeds of perennial plants, and to determine the diversity of the collected arthropods depending on the flowering intensity of plants in the strip. The most intense flowering period in the flower strip occurred in June, when the number of flowering plants was the highest and belonged to one species, Trifolium repens (81.52% of all flowering plants). In the same month, the largest share of beneficial arthropods were specimens from Hymenoptera/Parasitica (29.15%), which may indicate their preference for T. repens. The share of beneficial arthropods in relation to all caught arthropods was higher in June (58.74%) than in July (35.16%), with Hymenoptera predominating, represented mainly by Parasitica, which may indicate their preference for species from the genus Trifolium. Narcissus poeticus L. (Amaryllidaceae), a facultative serpentinophyte, is a highly variable species and particularly important ancestor of cultivated daffodils, but is rarely studied in field populations. This study, based on natural populations in the Balkans, focused on karyotype variability, genome size, ploidy and the presence of B chromosomes. Thirteen native populations from different environmental and soil conditions were collected and analyzed using flow cytometry to estimate nuclear genome size, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for physical mapping of rDNA, fluorochrome labeling (chromomycin and Hoechst) for heterochromatin organization and silver nitrate staining of nucleoli for determining rRNA gene activity. The organization of rDNA and natural triploids is reported here for the first time. The presence of individuals with B chromosomes (in 9/13 populations) and chromosomal rearrangements was also detected. The observed B chromosome showed three different morphotypes. The most frequent submetacentric type showed four different patterns, mainly with active ribosomal genes. The results obtained show that N. poeticus has a dynamic genome with variable genome size due to the presence of polyploidy, B chromosomes and chromosomal rearrangements. It is hypothesized that the observed changes reflect the response of the genome to different environmental conditions, where individuals with B chromosomes appear to have certain adaptive advantages. While the general diet of Mediterranean elasmobranchs has been widely studied, little is known about food partitioning and competition among sympatric species, despite these being important forces structuring marine communities. Using stomach content and stable isotope analyses, we investigated diet and trophic levels and evaluated the diet overlap and partitioning of Scyliorhinus canicula, Mustelus mustelus, and M. punctulatus in the northwestern Adriatic Sea. These shark species were confirmed as opportunistic mesopredators, but significant differences in their diets emerged. The two bentho-demersal Mustelus species had a larger trophic overlap with S. canicula than between each other. Given the pronounced morphological similarity of these two Mustelus species, this is likely a strategy to limit competition. The strictly benthic S. canicula showed a more varied diet compared to the other species. Stable isotope analysis highlighted that despite the smaller size and overlapping diets, S. canicula occupied a slightly higher trophic level. A better characterization of the trophic role of these species in the food web of the basin can be obtained from these data. At an ecosystem level, this information is essential to evaluate the possible consequences of the decline or recovery of the population of these exploited species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper relates the renderings of teenage vernacular in the four translations of J. D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye in Yugoslavia (1958, 1979, 1987) and Serbia (1995) (Eraković 2002) to the wider cultural factors present at the time of each (re)translation. Retranslation is approached as a phenomenon that is shaped by a variety of factors in a particular historical context. In this case, the factors include the development of the jeans prose literary genre in Yugoslavia, different publishing policies and practices during the 1970s and 1990s in Serbia, political contexts surrounding the publications of the four translations, and the translators' agencies. The translators' agencies are deduced from paratexts (the third translator's published commentary and interviews), the differences between the versions of the teenage vernacular in the two translations (1979 and 1987) by the second translator, and a comparative analysis of the global strategies applied in the (re)translations. It is argued that the first translation (1958) predominantly complied with the target literary tradition regarding the acceptability of nonstandard language varieties in a literary work, whereas the following three show evidence of competing translators' agencies in addition to changing publishing policies, which came as consequences of major societal changes.
