This study aimed to: a) investigate the most common signs and symptoms reported by people infected by the COVID-19, b) compare total time and weekly level of physical activity of people between pre- and post-infection period, and c) examine the association between physical activity levels and signs and symptoms reported during the disease cycle. Twenty-two adult people (14 males and 8 females, mean age 37.9 ± 16.8 years) living in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil participated in this study. Participants received a positive diagnosis for COVID-19 by PCR. Physical activity and sitting time was assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Variables such as body mass index and the clinical condition of the disease (signs and symptoms) were collected. The most frequent signs and symptoms reported by active and inactive individuals, respectively, were loss of taste (77.8% and 25%), headache (66.7% and 25%), coughing (66.7% and 25%), difficulty breathing (61.1% and 25%), and sore throat (61.1% and 75%). A 120-minute reduction (p = 0.010) in the total time of weekly physical activity and a 155 minute reduction (p = 0.003) of weekly moderate physical activity was observed in the pre- and post-diagnostic COVID-19 infection comparison. There was further an association between difficulty breathing and being physically inactive (odds ratio = 0.222; 95%CI: 0.094 – 0.527). Our findings suggest that COVID-19 had a negative impact on physical activity and that being physically active may reduce the likelihood of presenting with difficulty breathing if infected with the SARS-CoV-2 and associated disease COVID-19.

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies play an important role in the immune response against viruses such as SARS-CoV-2. As the effector functions of IgG are modulated by N-glycosylation of the Fc region, the structure and possible function of the IgG N-glycome has been under investigation in relation to divergent COVID-19 disease courses. Through LC-MS analysis we studied both total IgG1 and spike protein-specific IgG1 Fc glycosylation of 129 German and 163 Brazilian COVID-19 patients representing diverse patient populations. We found that hospitalized COVID-19 patients displayed decreased levels of total IgG1 bisection and galactosylation and lowered anti-S IgG1 fucosylation and bisection as compared to mild outpatients. Anti-S IgG1 glycosylation was dynamic over the disease course and both anti-S and total IgG1 glycosylation were correlated to inflammatory markers. Further research is needed to dissect the possible role of altered IgG glycosylation profiles in (dys)regulating the immune response in COVID-19.

Background: Recent studies have indicated that people who live at altitude have a lower incidence of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and lesser severity in infection cases. Hypothesis: Hypoxia exposure could lead to health benefits, and it could be used in the recovery process as an additional stimulus to physical training to improve cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF). Study Design: Randomized controlled clinical trial. Level of Evidence: Level 2. Methods: The 43 participants, aged 30 to 69 years, were divided into control group (CG, n = 18) and 2 training groups: normoxia (NG, n = 9) and hypoxia (HG, n = 16). Before and after the intervention were evaluated the lactate threshold 2 (L2), peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak), and a blood sample was collected at rest to evaluate hematological adaptation. Both groups performed an 8-week moderate-intensity physical training on a bike. The HG were trained under normobaric hypoxic conditions (fractional inspired oxygen [FiO2] = 13.5%). Results: The 8-week intervention promoted a similar improvement in CRF of people recovered from COVID-19 in the HG (L2 = 34.6%; VO2peak = 16.3%; VO2peak intensity = 24.6%) and NG (L2 = 42.6%; VO2peak = 16.7%; VO2peak intensity = 36.9%). Only the HG presented differences in hematological variables (erythropoietin = 191.7%; reticulocytes = -32.4%; off-score = 28.2%) in comparison with the baseline. Conclusion: The results of the present study provide evidence that moderate-intensity training in normoxia or hypoxia promoted similar benefits in CRF of people recovered from COVID-19. Furthermore, the hypoxia offered an additional stimulus to training promoting erythropoietin increase and hematological stimulation. Clinical Relevance: The present exercise protocol can be used for the rehabilitation of people recovered from COVID-19, with persistent low CRF. In addition, this is the first study demonstrating that physical training combined with hypoxia, as well as improving CRF, promotes greater hematological stimulation in people recovered from COVID-19.

Introdução: O Brasil é o terceiro colocado no ranking mundial em faturamento de serviços fitness, com 34.509 academias registradas. Entretanto, a pandemia da Covid-19 trouxe desafios e uma queda nesse faturamento. Com isto, as academias foram forçadas a adotar novas estratégias de gestão e marketing para se manterem no mercado diante deste novo contexto. Objetivo: Identificar as estratégias de marketing esportivo utilizadas por gestores de academias de Ribeirão Preto/SP para manter e captar novos clientes durante a pandemia da Covid-19. Métodos: Realizou-se um estudo qualitativo por meio de entrevista semiestruturada, realizada por meio da ferramenta Google Meet, gravadas para serem transcritas e analisadas posteriormente. Resultados: Dentre as estratégias utilizadas pelos seis gestores entrevistados, destacaram-se: segurança e limpeza da academia como marketing; priorização do relacionamento com o cliente como principal forma de retenção; uso recorrente do marketing de bonificações; pacotes e mensalidades mais atrativos para manter e ao mesmo tempo captar novos clientes; e, a utilização das redes sociais como principal forma de captação. Os problemas encontrados pelos gestores foram similares, com ao menos 1/3 apontando a falta de verba específica para o marketing, campanhas centralizadas em outras sedes ou franquias, lives ineficientes e marketing tradicional com custo muito alto. Considerações finais: Os gestores precisaram superar os obstáculos da pandemia para planejar e promover estratégias de marketing para academias com objetivos, público e porte diferentes. Ainda existem poucos estudos relacionando marketing e o mercado fitness no Brasil, destacando a importância de mais estudos que abordem esta temática.

Esse estudo investigou aspectos que podem impactar na intenção de contratação do serviço de personal trainer, de forma específica com relação ao sexo, idade e objetivo para a prática de exercícios físicos (estética, saúde ou condicionamento físico). Para a coleta dos dados, foram utilizados formulários online e uma escala validada (PALAZZI JUNIOR; CARDOSO, 2017). Foram analisadas as seguintes categorias: intenção de compra, habilidades sociais, aparência física e familiaridade. Participaram 313 pessoas sem o serviço contratado, sendo que destas 223 apresentaram a intenção de contratar. Os resultados mostraram maior intenção de contratar pelas mulheres, bem como pelos participantes com idade igual ou maior a 40 anos, que também ressaltaram a importância da aparência física e condicionamento físico do profissional. Dentre os que têm a “saúde” como objetivo, foi verificada a preferência de treinar ao ar livre e menor familiaridade com o exercício físico quando comparados aos outros objetivos “estética” e “condicionamento físico”.

A institucionalização e a regulamentação da profissão de Educação Física no Brasil se deram de maneira apartada do campo da saúde pública. Este aspecto, dentre outros, contribuiu para retardar a incorporação deste profissional no Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS), com reconhecimento de sua relevância para o desenvolvimento do colaboração interprofissonal, sobretudo no âmbito da Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS). Com atuação restrita ao componente escolar, área do esporte e lazer, somente a partir dos anos 2000, quando são instituídas políticas que implementam as práticas corporais/atividades físicas (PC/AF), o Profissional de Educação Física (PEF) ganha relevo para o trabalho em equipe na APS brasileira. Nesta compreensão, esta pesquisa objetivou analisar a inserção do PEF nos serviços de APS na perspectiva da colaboração interprofissional. Para isso, realizou-se um estudo de natureza exploratória e descritiva, com delineamento de pesquisa de campo e bibliográfica, e abordagem qualitativa e quantitativa, com profissionais da APS e gestores do SUS de dois municípios pertencentes ao Departamento Regional de Saúde XIII do estado de São Paulo. Os dados foram coletados por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica sobre aspectos críticos da incorporação do PEF nas equipes de APS brasileira; entrevistas semiestruturadas on-line com os gestores do SUS; e aplicação da Escala Jefferson de Atitudes Relacionadas à Colaboração Interprofissional (EJARCI) aos PEF e profissionais de saúde. A análise dos dados fundamentou-se, majoritariamente, pelo referencial teórico-metodológico da Educação e da Colaboração Interprofissional em Saúde associada ao arcabouço normativo do SUS. Da bibliografia disponível, constam apenas poucas publicações, dispersas e formuladas sob pretextos teóricos e objetivos muito diversos sobre a incorporação desse profissional no SUS, notadamente na APS. As entrevistas indicaram que há reconhecimento da importância do PEF como membro de equipe da saúde, porém obstáculos vinculados à frágil relação interprofissional, à precária infraestrutura e condições de trabalho, somado ao baixo financiamento e à formação inadequada limitam a sua atuação na saúde. A análise da EJARCI demonstrou que todas os participantes apresentam atitudes a favor da colaboração interprofissional, com diferenças estatísticas significantes entre a categoria profissional e a escolaridade, indicando que profissionais de enfermagem e de nível superior apresentam maior inclinação para a colaboração interprofissional, quando comparados ao de nível médio, como os técnicos de enfermagem e Agentes Comunitários de Saúde. O menor escore médio foi identificado para o PEF, contudo sem significância estatística. A efetiva inserção deste profissional na APS brasileira, com contribuiçoes para a colaboração interprofissional, poderia ser alcançada a partir de maior investimento em políticas públicas de educação e de saúde de modo a garantir postos de trabalhos suficientes e adequados, acompanhado da reorientação de seu modelo de formação pautado em mecanismos de ensino-aprendizagem que o prepare para atuação em equipe colaborativa no SUS. The institutionalization and regulation of the Physical Education profession in Brazil took place separately from the field of public health. This aspect, among others, contributed to delay the incorporation of this professional in the Unified Health System (SUS), with recognition of its relevance for the development of interprofessional collaboration, especially in the scope of Primary Health Care (PHC). With activities restricted to the school component, the area of sports and leisure, only from the 2000s onwards, when policies that implement body practices/physical activities (PC/AF) were instituted, did the Physical Education Professional (PEF) gain prominence in the of teamwork in Brazilian PHC. In this understanding, this research aimed to analyze the insertion of PEF in PHC services from the perspective of interprofessional collaboration. For this, an exploratory and descriptive study was carried out, with a field and bibliographic research design, and a qualitative and quantitative approach, with PHC professionals and SUS managers from two municipalities belonging to the Regional Health Department XIII of the state of Sao Paulo. Data were collected through bibliographic research on critical aspects of PEF incorporation in Brazilian PHC teams; semi-structured online interviews with SUS managers; and application of the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Related to Interprofessional Collaboration (EJARCI) to PEF and health professionals. Data analysis was mainly based on the theoretical-methodological framework of Education and Interprofessional Collaboration in Health associated with the normative framework of the SUS. From the available bibliography, there are only a few publications, scattered and formulated under very different theoretical pretexts and objectives on the incorporation of this professional in the SUS, notably in the PHC. The interviews indicated that there is recognition of the importance of the PEF as a member of the health team, but obstacles linked to the fragile interprofessional relationship, the precarious infrastructure and working conditions, added to the low funding and inadequate training limit its performance in health. The EJARCI analysis showed that all participants showed attitudes in favor of interprofessional collaboration, with statistically significant differences between professional category and schooling, indicating that nursing and higher education professionals are more inclined to interprofessional collaboration when compared to medium level, such as nursing technicians and Community Health Agents. The lowest average score was identified for the PEF, however without statistical significance. The effective insertion of this professional in Brazilian PHC, with contributions to interprofessional collaboration, could be achieved through greater investment in public education and health policies in order to guarantee sufficient and adequate jobs, accompanied by the reorientation of its model of training based on teaching-learning mechanisms that prepare them to work in a collaborative team in the SUS.

O aumento na incidência de doenças cardiovasculares tem sido associado à modificação do estilo de vida com menor engajamento da população em programas de exercícios físicos, sendo a falta de tempo para se exercitar uma das barreiras percebidas por grande parte da população. A perda da integridade da função endotelial é um marcador prognóstico para doenças cardiovasculares e o exercício físico crônico de característica aeróbia e realizado por método contínuo de treinamento parece ser efetivo para a melhora da função vascular. No entanto, diante dos recentes desafios para o engajamento da população em programas de exercício físico surge a necessidade de se avaliar os efeitos de outros tipos e métodos de treinamento sobre a função vascular. Portanto, o objetivo do presente estudo foi investigar os efeitos do treinamento aeróbio realizado por método contínuo ou método intervalado, com cargas não equiparadas, sobre a reatividade vascular da artéria aorta de ratos Sprague Dawley. Os animais foram divididos em três grupos: sedentário (SDA), treinamento contínuo (TRAC) e treinamento intervalado (TRAI) e tiveram livre acesso à água filtrada e ração padrão durante todo o estudo. Os grupos TRAC e TRAI treinaram em esteira três dias por semana (segunda, quarta e sexta) ao longo de 5 semanas. O grupo TRAC realizou 40 minutos de corrida contínua (40%-60% Vmax) e o grupo TRAI realizou 18 minutos de corrida intervalada, sendo estes divididos em três blocos de seis minutos, onde 2 minutos eram em maior intensidade (50-70% Vmax), seguidos de 4 minutos em menor intensidade (25-35% Vmax). A reatividade vascular da artéria aorta foi avaliada por meio das curvas de concentração-resposta à acetilcolina (ACh) e fenilefrina (PE) para avaliar o relaxamento e a contratilidade respectivamente. Nenhuma alteração foi verificada em quaisquer um dos grupos para a ação da PE. O relaxamento endotélio dependente induzido pela acetilcolina foi 20% maior no grupo TRAI quando comparado ao SDA e a sensibilidade do tecido à acetilcolina estava aumentada em 2 vezes em anéis de aorta provenientes de animais do grupo TRAI (EC50= -7,22 ± 0,08) comparado ao observado em anéis de animais do grupo SDA (EC50= -6,89 ± 0,08). Para o grupo TRAC tanto a resposta máxima quanto a sensibilidade não foram modificadas. Ambos os grupos TRAC e TRAI apresentaram ainda redução de 16% da gordura epididimal em relação ao SDA. Em conclusão, o modelo de treinamento intervalado utilizado foi eficaz e, principalmente, eficiente para promover aprimoramento da resposta endotélio dependente. Os resultados observados trazem um novo paradigma acerca da prescrição de treinamento aeróbio cujo objetivo seja a melhora da função vascular. The raise in the incidence of cardiovascular diseases has been associated with lifestyle modification with lower engagement of the population in physical exercise programs, being the lack of time to exercise one of the barriers perceived by much of the population. The impairment of endothelial function is a predictive marker for cardiovascular disease, whereas aerobic exercise performed by continuous training method seems to be effective in improving vascular function. However, in view of the recent challenges to engage population in exercise programs, it is necessary to investigate the effects of other training types and methods on vascular function. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of both continuous and interval aerobic training, with non-equal loads, on the vascular reactivity of Sprague Dawley rats\' aorta. The animals were divided into three groups: sedentary (SDA), continuous training (TRAC) and interval training (TRAI) and had free access to filtered water and standard feed throughout the study. The TRAC and TRAI groups trained on a treadmill three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) over five weeks. The TRAC group performed 40 minutes of continuous running (40%-60% Vmax) and the TRAI group performed 18 minutes of interval running, divided into three blocks of six minutes, 2 minutes of which were at higher intensity (50-70% Vmax), followed by 4 minutes at lower intensity (25-35% Vmax). The vascular responsiveness of the aorta artery was assessed using concentration-response curves to acetylcholine (ACh) and phenylephrine (PE) to assess relaxation and contractility respectively. No change was seen for PE responsiveness. The endothelium-dependent relaxation induced by acetylcholine was 20% higher in the TRAI group when compared to the SDA group and tissue sensitivity to acetylcholine was increased 2-fold in aortic rings from animals in the TRAI group (EC50= -7.22 ± 0.08) compared to SDA group (EC50= -6.89 ± 0.08). For TRAC group both the maximal response and sensitivity were not modified. Both TRAC and TRAI groups also showed a 16% reduction in epididymal fat compared to SDA. In conclusion, the interval training model used was efficient and mainly effective in enhancing the endothelium-dependent response. The present results bring a new paradigm about the prescription of aerobic training to improve vascular function.
