Abstract

The article reports on a study published in "Current Biology," in which Arizona State University marine-conservation biologist Jesse Senko and colleagues successfully used light-emitting diodes (LED) in fish nets to avoid by-catch like elasmobranchs such as sharks, rays and skates. Also cited is the effectiveness of LED in driving away cephalopods like Humboldt squid.
