The Uhelchulu quartz diorite-granodiorite intrusions in Xiwuqi, Inner Mongolia, are exposed along the northwestern margin of the Xilinhot microcontinental block, located within the central and eastern parts of the southeastern Hegenshan suture zone. LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating yielded crystallization ages of (396 ± 8) Ma for the quartz diorite and (385 ± 5) Ma for the granodiorite, indicating an Early-Middle Devonian magmatic event. The quartz diorite exhibits I-type granite features, characterized by elevated Al2O3 (14.33–15.43 wt%), MgO (3.73–5.62 wt%), and Na (Na2O/K2O = 1.04–1.44), coupled with low P2O5 (0.15–0.20 wt%) and TiO2 (0.73–0.99 wt%). Trace element patterns show relative enrichments in Rb, Th, U, and Pb, while Nb, Ta, Sr and Ti are relatively depleted. Total REE contents are relatively low (123–178 ppm), with significant LREE enrichment (ΣLREE/ΣHREE = 4.75–5.20), and a non-obvious Eu anomaly (δEu = 0.75–0.84). In contrast, the granodiorite displays S-type granite characteristics, with high SiO2 (70.48–73.01 wt%), K (K2O/Na2O = 1.35–1.83), Al2O3 (A/CNK = 1.16–1.31), and a high differentiation index (DI = 76–82). Notably, MgO (1.44–2.24 wt%) contents are low, and significant depletions of Ba, Sr, Ti, and Eu are observed, while Rb, Pb, Th, U, Zr, and Hf are significantly enriched. Total REE contents are relatively low (178–314 ppm), exhibiting significant LREE enrichment (LREE/HREE = 6.17–8.36) and a pronounced negative Eu anomaly (δEu = 0.34–0.49). The overall characteristics point towards an active continental margin arc background for the Uhelchulu intrusions. Previous studies have suggested that the Hegenshan ocean continuously subducted northward from the Early Carboniferous to the Late Permian, but there is a lack of evidence for its geological evolution during the pre-Early Carboniferous. Therefore, this paper provides a certain basis for studying the geological evolution during the pre-Early Carboniferous in the Hegenshan ocean. We preliminarily believed that the Hegenshan ocean underwent a southward subduction towards the Xilinhot microcontinental block in the Xiwuqi area, at least from the Early Devonian to the Middle Devonian and the Hegenshan ocean may might have undergone a shift in subduction mechanism during the Late Devonian or Early Carboniferous. The Imourkhssen porphyry Cu±Mo±Au±Ag deposit is located at the Ouzellagh-Siroua Salient (OSS) straddling the boundary between the central Anti-Atlas and the central High Atlas. It is characterized by a typical porphyry-style mineralization. The volcanic rocks are intruded by numerous magmatic rocks of the Ouarzazate Group (580–539 Ma), referred to as the Late Ediacaran magmatic suites (LEMS). Of these, the Askaoun, Imourkhssen, and Imourgane granites are the most significant as they are related to the porphyry mineralization. The entire set is intruded by the Zaghar mafic dyke swarms. Zircon U-Pb dating of the Imourkhssen granite and the ore-bearing granite porphyry shows that these intrusive rocks were emplaced at 558 ± 1 and 550 ± 2 Ma, respectively. Moreover, the whole-rock major and trace element geochemistry reveal a high-K calc-alkaline I-type composition, consistent with an emplacement in a post-collisional setting under a trans-tensional tectonic regime. Ore bodies are hosted by the Askaoun granodiorite as well as the Imourgane granite. The mineralization occurs as fine-grained dissemination and infills of hydrothermally altered NNE–SSW to N–S trending veins and veinlets. Ore-related hydrothermal alteration consists of potassic, chlorite-sericite, serecitic, and propylitic mineral assemblages along with pervasive silicification and pyritization, providing a porphyry-style alteration pattern. The ore periods comprise supergene and magmatic-hydrothermal periods. The latter includes primary dissemination and secondary NNE–SSW to N–S ore-bearing system stages. The occurrence of molybdenite is either restricted to the potassic and chlorite-sericite alteration zones of the ore-bearing granite as fine disseminations or alternatively as veinlet infills within the propylitic halos. The molybdenite occurrences along with pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, and tennantite dissemination are assigned to the primary ore stage, while the NNE–SSW to N–S ore-bearing system is related to the secondary ore stage. It consists of pyrite, chalcopyrite, bornite, covellite, diagenite, sphalerite, hematite, galena, gold, and chenguodaite. The predominance of cockade and crack-and-seal textures suggest multiple episodes of ore-forming fluid circulations under epithermal conditions. The supergene stage is achieved by subordinate malachite, azurite, barite, hematite, epsomite, and chrysocolla. From the descriptions above, we argue that the Imourkhssen Cu±Mo±Au±Ag mineralization shares many mineralogical and paragenetic attributes of porphyry-copper deposits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although considered a crucial component of the Rodinia supercontinent, it remains uncertain how the Yangtze craton relates to the accretion and breakup of Rodinia. Here, the Huanglingmiao granitic complex (HGC), an intermediate-acid rock series that intruded on the southern Kongling terrane of the northern Yangtze craton margin, is investigated to help resolve this conundrum. Our analysis indicates that these rocks consist of tonalite, trondhjemite, granodiorite, oligoporphyritic granodiorite, porphyric biotite granodiorite, and fine- to medium-grained granodiorite dyke compositions. Collectively, this assemblage is further subdivided into two categories by their temporal, spatial, and geochemical features into early TTG-like and later granitic–dioritic units, which are composed of tonalite, trondhjemite, granodiorite, porphyritic granodiorite, and the fine- to medium-grained granodiorite dykes, respectively. Zircon U-Pb dating yields ages of 865~850 Ma for the TTG-like rocks, 844~825 Ma for the porphyritic granodiorites, and ~800 Ma for the granodiorite dykes. Combined with geochemical evidence, the data suggest that the early- and late-series rocks were formed by a partial melting of Mesoproterozoic and Paleoproterozoic crustal materials, respectively, suggesting that the vertical layering of the crust controlled the composition of the independent units. In addition, isotopic evidence points to different sources for the various rocks in the Kongling terrane and that mantle-derived materials influenced the early-series lithologies. Combined with previous studies on the northern margin of the Yangtze craton, it is inferred that the early-series rocks formed in an active continental margin environment, while the late-series rocks display within-plate boundary formation characteristics. The multiple magmatic activities revealed by this study record sequential partial melting with tectonic transition characteristics from an Andean-type to within-plate magmatism in the northern margin of the Yangtze craton. Taken together, these observations point to a strong association between these rocks, convergence, and incorporation of the northern Yangtze craton margin into the Rodinia supercontinent during the Tonian Period. The South China Plate is an important part of the Rodinia supercontinent in the Neoproterozoic. The Rizhao area, located on the northeastern margin of the South China Plate, records multiple periods of magmatism, among which Neoproterozoic granitic gneiss is of great significance to the tectonic evolution of the South China Block. In this study, systematic petrology, geochemistry, isotopic chronology, and zircon Hf isotopic analyses were carried out on gneisses samples of biotite alkali feldspar granitic and biotite monzogranitic compositions in the Rizhao area. Geochemical analyses suggest that these granitic rocks belong to the sub-alkaline series and have high potassium contents. They are enriched in large-ion lithophile elements K, Rb, and Ba; depleted in high field strength elements P, Nb, and Ti; enriched in light rare earth elements and moderately depleted in heavy rare earth elements; and have weak to moderate negative Eu anomalies and weak negative Ce anomalies. These rocks are post-orogenic A-type granites. LA-MC-ICP-MS U-Pb dating of zircons from two biotite alkali-feldspar granitic gneiss samples yielded weighted mean ages of 785 ± 8 Ma (MSWD = 3.0) and 784 ± 6Ma (MSWD = 1.5), respectively, and a biotite monzogranitic gneiss sample yielded a weighted mean age of 789 ± 6 Ma (MSWD = 2.3). Lu-Hf isotopic analyses on zircon grains from the two types of Neoproterozoic-aged gneisses yielded negative εHf(t) values ranging from −19.3 to −8.8 and from −18.3 to −10.4, respectively, and the corresponding two-stage Hf model age ranges are 2848–3776 Ma and 2983–3682 Ma, respectively. These granites are the product of Neoproterozoic magmatic activity and are mainly derived from the partial melting of Archean continental crust. Combining the geochemical characteristics and zircon U-Pb-Lu-Hf isotopic analyses, these A-type granitic gneisses appear to have formed in an intracontinental rift extension environment during the initial break-up of the Rodinia supercontinent, as part of the supercontinent break-up process at the northeastern margin of the South China Block. A significant amount of pegmatite has been discovered on the northwest margin of the Qaidam basin. Among this, the Jiaolesayi pegmatite, located in the northwestern margin of the Quanji Massif (Oulongbuluke micro-continent), shows rare element mineralization potential. Detailed field investigations, along with mineralogical, geochemical, and zircon U-Pb geochronological studies, were carried out on the pegmatite. The results show that the Jiaolesayi pegmatite is syenite, without obvious compositional zoning in the outcrop. It exhibits a peraluminous, high-K calc-alkaline nature with strong depletions in Eu, Sr, Ba, Ti, and P, and high contents of Nb, Ta, Y, Ti, U, Th, and heavy rare earth elements (HREEs), which are primarily concentrated in allanite-(Ce), euxenite-(Y), limonite, thorite, and zircon. The geochemical and mineralogical features of the syenite pegmatite indicate it belongs to the euxenite-type in the rare element class (REE) of the NYF family, with the characteristic accessory mineral being euxenite-(Y). Its 10,000 Ga/Al ratios (2.46 to 2.96), Zr + Nb + Ce + Y contents (998 to 6202 ppm), Y/Nb ratios (0.62 to 0.75), and Yb/Ta ratios (0.80 to 1.49) show an affinity with A1-type granite. Zircons from the syenite sample yielded a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 413.6 ± 1.4 Ma, while the elevated U and Th concentrations in the zircons and Th/U ratios (0.04 to 0.16) suggest the possible influence of hydrothermal processes in the late-stage fractional crystallization. In the context of the regional tectonic evolution, the syenite pegmatite may have formed from a basic alkaline magma derived from an OIB-like melt with minor crustal contamination, under the post-collisional extension setting. The Lujiang–Chuzhou Metallogenic Area is an important component of the Middle–Lower Yangtze River Valley Metallogenic Belt. Despite being an important copper–gold deposit in this area, the Shanlixu skarn Cu-Au deposit has not yet been systematically studied. According to LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating, the quartz monzonite porphyry from the Shanlixu deposit is aged 137.5 ± 1.7 Ma: while it differs from the timing of the magmatism and related mineralization in the Lujiang–Chuzhou Area, it is consistent with magmatic activity elsewhere in the Middle–Lower Yangtze River Valley Metallogenic Belt. The Ce4+/Ce3+ values of zircon in the quartz monzonite porphyry vary from 204.5 to 886.5, indicating that the intrusion might have formed in an environment with high oxygen fugacity. Additionally, the quartz monzonite porphyry exhibits high contents of Al2O3, Sr, Ba, and Mg# (Mg# = Mg2+/(Mg2+ + Fe2+)) and low ratios of Y, Nb, Ta, and K2O/Na2O, showing geochemical characteristics similar to those of adakitic rocks. Based on these characteristics, it is suggested that the intrusion might have been derived from the partial melting of subducted oceanic crust under a continental arc margin setting. Furthermore, it is strongly indicated that the quartz monzonite porphyry from the Shanlixu deposit, in the Lujiang–Chuzhou Area, is closely related to Cu-Au mineralization, as suggested by the age of the intrusion, which is approximately 137 Ma. In recent years, coal-type critical metal deposits have become a research hotspot in coal geology. As a major coal-accumulating basin in the Xinjiang area, the Turpan-Hami Basin contains abundant coal resources and has the potential to become a large coal-type critical metal deposit. However, previous studies on the enrichment characteristics of critical metal elements in coal are few and need further research. Based on SEM-EDS, XRF, and ICP-MS experiments, this study investigates the coal petrology, mineralogy, and geochemistry of the No. 22 coal of the Xishanyao Formation from the Dananhu Coal Mine, Xinjiang, to identify the sediment source, depositional environment, and controlling factors of the critical metal elements of the No. 22 coal. The results showed that the Dananhu coals are characterized by a low ash yield, low total sulfur content, high volatile yield, and high inertinite proportions. Quartz, kaolinite, and illite are the main minerals in the coal. Compared with the world's low-rank coals, Ni, Co, Mo, and Ta are slightly enriched, Li, Rb, Cs, Ba, Tl, Bi, and Ge are depleted, and the concentrations of other trace elements are comparable to the average values of the world's low-rank coals. The REY of the Dannanhu coals exhibited high fractionation, with its enrichment patterns characterized by the H-type and M-H-type. Although most of the critical metals are not enriched in the Dannanhu coals, the Ga, Zr (Hf), and Nb (Ta) concentrations in the coal ash of the Dannanhu coals have reached the economic cut-off grade and have the potential to be a substitute for rare metal resources. The terrigenous detrital sources of the Dannanhu coals mainly come from the Paleozoic dacite, andesite, and a small amount of granite from the Harik Mountain and Eastern Bogda Mountain in the Turpan-Hami Basin. The Dannanhu coals are generally in a dry and hot depositional environment, with high salinity and weak reduction-oxidation. The Early Jurassic was primarily a greenhouse phase in Earth's history. Previous studies have predominantly focused on marine strata in the Tethyan Ocean, but continental records outside of Europe are still poorly understood, which has hindered a thorough understanding of its climate dynamics. To address this gap, organic, inorganic, and isotope geochemical analyses, along with mineralogical and sedimentological assessments, were conducted on samples from the Quemo Co Formation of well QZ-16 in the Qiangtang Basin (Eastern Tethys). This study aimed to investigate carbon cycle perturbations and consequences of redox conditions and paleosalinity within a lacustrine system during the Early Jurassic. The carbon isotope profile of well QZ-16 exhibited a long-term negative excursion of ca. −3.83‰ in lacustrine sediments, with relatively heavy δ13Corg values and small excursion magnitudes. Enhanced terrigenous input, as indicated by detrital proxies such as Si/Al, Ti/Al, and Zr/Al, was driven by accelerated continental weathering during the carbon isotope excursions. The presence of coarse-grained, pelitic siltstone deposits coincided with the onset of these negative carbon isotope excursions. Sr/Ba ratios (0.05–3.64, avg. 0.73) suggest a brackish to freshwater salinity regime within the third member, implying that the deposition of the Quemo Co Formation was influenced by both freshwater and seawater inputs. Most enrichment factors (VEF, ZnEF, NiEF) having a value below 1.0 and Corg/P ratios less than 50 indicate that the lacustrine environment was characterized by predominantly oxidizing conditions, particularly during the early Toarcian negative carbon isotope excursion (T-NCIE). Despite the record of the T-NCIE event, enhanced respiration in bottom and pore waters indicates that the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event (T-OAE) was absent in this part of the eastern Tethys Ocean. The recorded Early Jurassic environmental settings in the Qiangtang Basin lacustrine system exhibit a close association with the T-CIE event (183 Ma), providing insights into the complex interplay between carbon cycle perturbation, climate, weathering, and biological processes during this greenhouse period. Himalayan leucogranite is an excellent target for understanding the orogenic process of the India–Asia collision, but its origin and tectonic significance are still under debate. An integrated study of geochronology, geochemistry, and in situ Sr-Nd-Hf isotopes was conducted for a tourmaline-bearing leucogranite in the eastern Tethyan Himalaya using LA-ICP-MS, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, and ICP-MS and LA-MC-ICP-MS, respectively. LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating of zircon and monazite showed that it was emplaced at ~19 Ma. The leucogranite had high SiO2 and Al2O3 contents ranging from 73.16 to 73.99 wt.% and 15.05 to 15.24 wt.%, respectively. It was characterized by a high aluminum saturation index (1.14–1.19) and Rb/Sr ratio (3.58–6.35), which is characteristic of S-type granite. The leucogranite was enriched in light rare-earth elements (LREEs; e.g., La and Ce) and large ion lithophile elements (LILEs; e.g., Rb, K, and Pb) and depleted in heavy rare-earth elements (e.g., Tm, Yb, and Lu) and high field strength elements (HFSEs; e.g., Nb, Zr, and Ti). It was characterized by high I Sr (t) (0.7268–0.7281) and low ε Nd (t) (−14.6 to −13.2) and ε Hf (t) (−12.6 to −9.47), which was consistent with the isotopic characteristics of the Higher Himalayan Sequence. Petrogenetically, the origin of the leucogranite is best explained by the decompression-induced muscovite dehydration melting of an ancient metapelitic source within the Higher Himalayan Sequence during regional extension due to the movement of the South Tibetan Detachment System (STDS). The significantly high lithium and beryllium contents of the leucogranite and associated pegmatite suggest that Himalayan leucogranites possess huge potential for lithium and beryllium exploration. A comprehensive study of the Maastrichtian–Danian boundary rocks in the Klementyev Mountain section (eastern Crimea) was carried out. The lithological characteristics of carbonate, carbonate–clayey, and clastic rocks are scrutinized. The dynamic of changes in the benthic and planktonic foraminiferal assemblages is analyzed. The geochemical and isotopic data were obtained for this section for the first time. The stratigraphic range of the upper Maastrichtian and lower Danian has been specified. The late Campanian–early Maastrichtian age of the underlying rocks has been confirmed for the first time. Sediments of the Klementyev Formation were deposited in a deep-sea pelagic paleoenvironment on the submerged part of the outer shelf, whereas the overlying Lower Danian sediments were deposited in shallow waters of the inner shelf with terrigenous sedimentation and high hydrodynamic activity. Few studies apply geochemical concepts governing fluoride fate and transport in natural waters to geochemical conditions at contaminated industrial sites. This has negative implications for designing sampling and compliance monitoring programs and informing remediation decision‐making. We compiled geochemical data for 566 groundwater samples from industrial waste streams associated with elevated fluoride and that span a range of geochemical conditions, including alkaline spent potliner, near‐neutral pH coal combustion, and acidic gypsum stack impoundments. Like natural systems, elevated fluoride (hundreds to thousands of ppm) exists at the pH extremes and is generally tens of ppm at near‐neutral pH conditions. Geochemical models identify pH‐dependent fluoride complexation at low pH and carbonate stability at high pH as dominant processes controlling fluoride mobility. Limitations in available thermochemical, kinetic rate, and adsorption/desorption data and lack of complete analyses present uncertainties in quantitative models used to assess fluoride mobility at industrial sites. Mantle plumes related to Large Igneous Provinces have been linked to continental break‐up and validated by the outpouring of mafic‐ultramafic magmas that range from continental flood basalt magmatism to submarine plateau volcanism. This study presents a new set of geochemical and mineralogical data on mafic magmatic rocks from the Sylhet Trap of the Shillong Plateau, northeast India. The investigated mafic rocks (basalt and dolerite) are predominantly sub‐alkaline‐tholeiitic, composed of bytownite+labradorite and diopside+augite, with ophitic to sub‐ophitic and glomeroporphyritic textures, the dark interstitial region of much finer grains consisting of opaque minerals and devitrified glass. The mafic rocks of Sylhet Trap show light rare earth elements enrichment with (La/Yb)N ratio (1.92–2.86) and (La/Sm)N ratio (1.11–1.40), an almost flat pattern of heavy rare earth elements along with mild europium anomalies (Eu/Eu*= 0.94–1.11). Trace element characteristics suggest their affinity towards enriched mid‐oceanic ridge basalt and generated from low degree of partial melting of spinel source with minor involvement of crustal contamination. The similarity in geochemical characteristics of the investigated mafic rocks with the magmatism of Rajmahal Traps, eastern Peninsular India, Abor Volcanics, eastern Himalaya, along with Bunbury Basalt of western Australia and Cona Mafic exposed in southeastern Tibet, suggests their genetic linkage with mantle plume activities. Thus, we argue that the magmatic event of the Sylhet Trap is related to the Kerguelen mantle plume activity that played a significant role in the fragmentation of eastern Gondwana during the Lower Cretaceous period, giving rise to Greater India, Antarctica and northwest Australia. A flare‐up of granitoids occurred at 465–445 Ma in the South Altyn Tagh, synchronously with the exhumation of subducted continental crust. Nevertheless, it remains enigmatic whether a petrogenetic connection exists between them. Here, we report a 454–451 Ma monzogranite pluton, which is characterized by abundant inherited zircons, located in the northern margin of the South Altyn Tagh high‐pressure (HP)—ultrahigh‐pressure (UHP) metamorphic terrane. U–Pb ages and Hf–O isotopic compositions of inherited and synmagmatic zircons are investigated to trace the source rocks and petrogenesis of this pluton. The inherited zircons (zircons that predate the magmatism) exhibit a wide range of ages from 2618 to 484 Ma, displaying three major peaks at 1800–1100 Ma, 1000–800 Ma and 500 Ma. By comparing these inheritance age patterns with zircon spectra of main (meta‐)sedimentary sequences and the widespread Early Neoproterozoic granites (presently as granitic gneisses) in South Altyn Tagh, along with zircon εHf(t) and whole‐rock Nd isotopic composition, we argue that the main source rocks of the studied monzogranite are Early Neoproterozoic granitic gneisses and Late Mesoproterozoic paragneisses from the South Altyn Tagh HP–UHP metamorphic terrane. The ca. 500 Ma inherited zircons have a metamorphic origin, which is simultaneous with the peak metamorphic ages of HP–UHP metamorphic rocks in the Altyn Tagh Complex. These observations indicate that the source rocks of the monzogranite pluton are the subducted continental crust, which underwent metamorphism at ca. 500 Ma and followed by partial melting at 454–451 Ma. In addition, synmagmatic zircons exhibit variable δ18O and εHf(t) values ranging from 5.4 to 11.7‰ and from −19 to +10.3, respectively, indicating a minor contribution of mantle‐derived melts in the formation of the monzogranite. Given the studied pluton and contemporaneous extensive granitoids (465–445 Ma), characterized by similar geochemistry and source rocks, are synchronous with the final exhumation of subducted South Altyn Tagh continental crust, we propose that the reworking of exhumed continental crust at middle to lower crustal depths is their main petrogenesis. The Neotethyan Sanandaj–Sirjan Zone of western Iran has recorded major magmatic activities due to its continental arc tectonic setting during the Mesozoic. The Varcheh mafic intrusions were less‐studied plutons in the northern Sanandaj–Sirjan Zone (SSZ). Field evidence, petrography, geochemistry and U–Pb geochronological data were used to determine petrographic composition, geochemical nature, crystallization age and also to suggest a conceptual tectonomagmatic model for their emplacement. Small plutonic bodies are dominantly composed of monzogabbro that have intruded into the Cretaceous sedimentary rocks. Based on U–Pb zircon datings, these rocks have crystallized at 125–118 Ma in late Early Cretaceous (Barremian–Aptian), and are older than the supposed ages reported on geological maps. Varcheh rocks are not just typical calc‐alkaline rocks and some show alkaline affinity. Negative anomalies in Nb–Ta–Ti and enrichments in some large‐ion lithophile elements on spider diagrams are consistent with a subduction‐zone setting. Potential deep source for magma generation is partial melting of subcontinental lithospheric mantle wedge above a subducting slab of oceanic lithosphere. The spaces for the Varcheh mafic intrusions are accommodated by dominant dextral strike‐slip movement in a continental arc experiencing extension during late Early Cretaceous subduction. According to the zircon U–Pb geochronology results in this paper and previous U–Pb ages in the northern part of the SSZ, the mid‐Cretaceous magmatism reveals a significant NW‐ward younging trend and migration of the magmatic arc from the Barremian–Aptian in south‐east to the Albian–Cenomanian in the north‐west. The mineral chemistry, whole-rock geochemistry, 40Ar / 39Ar dating and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopes of the Eocene Narman (Erzurum) Volcanic rocks in the southeast of the Eastern Pontides Orogenic Belt (EPOB, NE Türkiye) were investigated. The Narman Volcanites consist of basaltic dyke, basaltic lava, and basaltic volcanic breccia facies. Volcanites contain plagioclase (An34-80), clinopyroxene (Wo38-47En41-50Fs5-18), and olivine (Fo68-90) as phenocrystals with magnetite/titanomagnetite microphenocrysts. New 40Ar-39Ar ages suggest that these volcanic rocks erupted between 44.5 ± 0.1 and 43.4 ± 0.1 Ma, within the Middle Eocene (Lutetian). Narman Volcanites have calcalkaline character, with medium-high K content. Volcanites are enriched in large ion lithophile elements (LILE) and light rare earth elements (LREE), while they are depleted in terms of high field strength elements (HFSE). Chondrite-normalized rare earth element distributions have concave shape with moderate enrichment (LaN/LuN = 2.78–7.99), leading to consideration that the magmas forming the volcanics derived from similar sources. Isotopically, the rocks in the Narman Volcanites have low-medium initial 87Sr/86Sr values (0.70405–0.70485), initial 143Nd/144Nd values (0.512606–0.512848) and positive Ndi (+0.5 – +5.2). Depleted mantle Nd model ages were TDM1 = 0.29–0.62 Ga and TDM2 =0.43–0.83 Ga. (206Pb/204Pb)i, (207Pb/204Pb)i, and (208Pb/204Pb)i values vary in the ranges of 18.246–18.709, 15.578–15.616, and 38.225–38.791, respectively. The initial (176Hf/177Hf)i ratios for the volcanites are between 0.282770 and 0.283013, while the εHf values range from +7.6 to +9. All the evidence supports the conclusion that the parental magma for the rocks probably derived from an enriched lithospheric mantle, previously metasomatized by fluids derived from subducted slab during asthenospheric upwelling, due to fragmented asymmetric delamination in a postcollisional extensional tectonic environment. During the initial stages of Pangea amalgamation in the Carboniferous period, the Rheic Ocean basin experienced subduction prompted by the convergence between Gondwana and Laurasia, culminating in the basin's closure that preceded the paleocontinent collision. This tectonic episode promoted the Carboniferous (Mississippian and Pennsylvanian) tholeiitic to calc-alkaline magmatism, represented in the Colombian Andes through the tonalite and diorite-gabbro facies of the El Carmen Pluton. We investigate the two main facies (felsic and mafic facies) of the plutonic body, which crop out in the Central Cordillera of the Colombian Andes. U-Pb zircon crystallization ages are 326 ± 1 Ma for the mafic facies and 313 ± 1 Ma for the felsic facies. Positive ɛHf(i) isotopes ranging from +5.4 to +10.9 suggest mantle-derived magma with low crustal assimilation. The progressive increase in Eu anomaly (Eu × 0.64 to 1.15) and high LREE/HREE ratios underscore a continental magmatic arc formation in congruence with a subduction context. Thermobarometric analyses of mineral geochemistry across both facies reveal the magmatic emplacement at temperatures spanning 753–910°C, pressures between 3 and 4.65 kbar, and depths approximating 9–14 km. The simultaneous presence of two magmatic facies bearing tholeiitic and calc-alkaline characteristics, separated by ~13 Ma crystallization gap, infers a magmatic recharge episode. The results highlight a slightly thickened crust due to the arc maturity, or a transition from shallow-dipping to steep-angle subduction, consistent with tectonic slab-rollback mechanisms. The modest crustal thickening, indicative of low arc maturation between 326 and 313 Ma, is concomitant with the closure of the western part of the Rheic Ocean basin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The subduction-related Sunda-Banda arc hosts several giant and major Cu–Au–Mo porphyry and epithermal Au systems, making it one of the most important magmatic-related metallogenic belts in Indonesia. They are accompanied by a number of smaller systems, one of which is the recently discovered Randu-Kuning porphyry Cu-Au deposit on Java Island. The present study investigates the geochemical characteristics of this deposit through whole-rock and mineral geochemistry and mineral geothermobarometry, focusing on three sequential dioritic intrusions that make up the host igneous complex, two barren and the third mineralized. Moreover, a comparative analysis is performed between other porphyry deposits in the Sunda-Banda arc and with Grasberg in Papua. This study shows that the older porphyry deposits have mostly similar geochemical characteristics to the younger deposits, suggesting the same magma source, which is mantle-derived oxidized I-type magma. Amphibole geothermobarometry shows that the formation of syn-ore intrusion in the older porphyry was higher in temperature and pressure than those at the younger porphyry. The halogen and oxygen fugacities inferred from biotite and amphibole chemistry indicate an oxidized, water- and halogen-rich melt. Our study shows that combining amphibole and biotite chemistry and whole-rock geochemical data is useful to fingerprint the magmatic-hydrothermal processes, especially where multiple magmatic phases occur. Identifying source orogens for syn-orogenic sediments in dispersed fragments of a supercontinent provides key information on the tectonic evolution of the orogens involved in supercontinent assembly and on paleogeographic reconstruction. An approach using U-Pb geochronology and trace elements of multiple detrital minerals including zircon, rutile, apatite, and monazite has major advantages over detrital zircon studies alone. Application of this multi-pronged approach to Ediacaran and Cambrian clastic sedimentary rocks from the West Cathaysia terrane of the South China block demonstrates that these rocks were deposited in two distinct, but overlapping, syn-orogenic basins related to the assembly of eastern Gondwana. The Ediacaran rocks have detritus likely sourced from the Paterson Petermann orogen (PPO) in Australia, and the dominant 650–600 Ma populations and trace element compositions of detrital rutile and apatite indicate a significant Ediacaran thermal and high-pressure metamorphic event in the orogen. The appearance of Cambrian and Tonian detrital rutile and apatite populations in the Cambrian rocks indicates derivation from a different source orogen characterized by multiple thermal events, most likely the Kuunga-Pinjarra orogen (KPO). Our data suggest that West Cathaysia was located adjacent to both the PPO and the KPO and support the hypothesis that the PPO was a collisional, rather than a long-lived post-Grenvillian intraplate, orogen. Magmatic periodicity is recognized in continental arcs worldwide, but the mechanism responsible for punctuated arc magmatism is controversial. Continental arcs in the Trans‐Himalayan orogenic system display episodic magmatism and the most voluminous flare‐up in this system was in early Eocene during the transition from subduction to collision. The close association of the flare‐up with collision is intriguing. Our study employs zircon Lu‐Hf and bulk rock Sr‐Nd isotopes, along with mineral geochemistry, to track the melt sources of the Nymo intrusive complex and the role of mantle magma during the early Eocene flare‐up of the Gangdese arc, Tibet. The Nymo intrusive complex is composed of gabbronorite, diorite, quartz diorite, and granodiorite which define an arc‐related calc‐alkaline suite. Zircon U‐Pb ages reveal that the complex was emplaced between ~50–47 Ma. Zircon Hf isotopes yield εHf(t) values of 8.2–13.1, while whole‐rock Sr and Nd isotopes yield εNd(t) values of 2.7–6.5 indicative of magmatism dominated by melting of a juvenile mantle source with only minor crustal assimilation (~15%–25%) as indicated by assimilation and fractional crystallization modeling. Together with published data, the early Eocene magmatic flare‐up was likely triggered by slab breakoff of subducted oceanic lithosphere at depths shallower than the overriding plate. The early Eocene magmatic flare‐up may have contributed to crustal thickening of the Gangdese arc. This study provides important insights into the magmatic flare‐up and its significant role in the generation of large batholiths during the transition from subduction to collision. The Jianbeigou gold deposit is a typical lode gold deposit in the Qinling metallogenic belt, located on the southern margin of the North China Craton. Three stages of the hydrothermal process can be distinguished, including the quartz ± pyrite, quartz‐polymetallic sulfide, and quartz‐carbonate ± pyrite stages. From the early to late stages, the homogenization temperatures of primary fluid inclusions are 281–362°C, 227–331°C, and 149–261°C, respectively. The corresponding salinities estimated for these fluids are 3.9–9.9 wt%, 0.4–9.4 wt%, and 0.7–7.2 wt% NaCl equiv. Combined with laser Raman spectroscopy data, the ore‐forming fluid belongs to a H2O‐CO2‐NaCl ± CH4 system with medium–low temperature and salinity. The δ18Ofluid and δD values for the quartz veins are –1.0‰ to 6.0‰ and –105‰ to –84‰, respectively, which indicates that the ore‐forming fluid is of mixed source, mainly derived from magma, with a contribution from meteoric water. Pyrite has been identified into three generations based on mineral paragenetic sequencing, including Py1, Py2, and Py3. The pyrites have δ34S sulfur isotopic compositions from three stages between 3.7‰ and 8.4‰, indicating that sulfur mainly originated from magma. Te, Bi, Sb, and Cu contents in pyrite were all high and showed a strong correlation with Au concentrations. Native gold and the Au‐Ag‐Bi telluride minerals were formed concurrently, and the As concentration was low and decoupled from the Au content. Therefore, Te, Bi, Sb and other low‐melting point chalcophile elements play an important role for gold mineralization in arsenic‐deficient ore‐forming fluid. Combined with the geological setting, evolution of pyrite, and ore‐fluids geochemistry, we propose that the Jianbeigou deposit can be classified as a magmatic–hydrothermal lode gold deposit. Inertinite‐rich coal is widely distributed in the Ordos Basin, represented by the No. 2 coal seam of the Middle Jurassic Yan'an Formation. This paper combined coal petrology and geochemistry to analyze the origin of inertinite, changes in the coal‐forming environment and control characteristics of wildfire. Research has shown that there are two forms of inertinite sources in the study area. Alongside typical fusinization, wildfire events also play a substantial role in inertinite formation. There are significant fluctuations in the coal‐forming environment of samples at different depths. Coal samples were formed in dry forest swamp with low water levels and strong oxidation, which have a high inertinite content, and the samples formed in wet forest swamp and limnic showed low inertinite content. Conversely, the inertinite content of different origins does not fully correspond to the depositional environment characterized by dryness and oxidation. Nonpyrogenic inertinites were significantly influenced by climatic conditions, while pyrofusinite was not entirely controlled by climatic conditions but rather directly impacted by wildfire events. The high oxygen level was the main factor causing widespread wildfire events. Overall, the combination of wildfire activity and oxidation generates a high content of inertinite in the Middle Jurassic coal of the Ordos Basin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Basalts from the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian are extensively developed in the central Lhasa subterrane, southern Tibet. Studying the petrogenesis of these rocks may have implications for the late Paleozoic arc magmatism along the central Lhasa subterrane uncovering more of the evolution of the Sumdo Paleo‐Tethys Ocean and its dynamic mechanism. Basalt samples from the Luobadui Formation in the Leqingla area, NW of Linzhou City in the central Lhasa subterrane, southern Tibet exhibit arc‐like geochemical signatures in a subduction‐zone tectonic setting characterized by high Al2O3 and low TiO2 contents, fractionated REE patterns with low Nb/La ratios and high LREE concentrations, and negative HFSE anomalies. Based on their higher Th/Ce, Nb/Zr, and lower Ba/Th, Pb/Nd ratios, slightly negative to positive εNd(t) values, and the relatively high Sr‐Pb isotopic compositions, these samples were probably derived from partial melting of a depleted mantle source of garnet + spinel lherzolite, metasomatized by subducted sediments around 297 Ma. Modeling of the trace elements indicates that these basalts experienced fractional crystallization of olivine, clinopyroxene and minor plagioclase during magma ascent and eruption. It is proposed that these Late Carboniferous–Early Permian basalts are associated with the northward subduction of the Sumdo Paleo‐Tethys Ocean seafloor along the southern margin of the central Lhasa subterrane. Structural and petrological evidence suggests an asymmetric and two-sided subduction of the Sistan oceanic lithosphere under the Lut and Afghan blocks. The subduction under the Lut block was characterized by a steeper dip angle and a higher subduction rate, leading to the retreat of the plate boundary towards the ocean and subsequent back-arc extension. Studies on the geochemistry and possible origin of the mafic-intermediate igneous rocks of the Lut block corroborate the occurrence of crustal thinning and back-arc extension, highlighting the significant role of subduction in their formation. In this research, we employed laboratory or analog modeling with scale lengths to simulate the characteristics of the Sistan oceanic lithosphere subduction and the geodynamic processes in eastern Iran. We investigated the parameters controlling the style of subduction by examining the sinking of a thin viscoelastic silicone putty sheet with varying geometric and rheological properties in a glucose syrup-filled reservoir. Our findings revealed that an increase in length and thickness, coupled with a low viscosity ratio of the lithosphere and asthenosphere, accelerates the subduction rate. We also identified a significant correlation between the dip angle and the subduction rate. In summary, the deformation of the back-arc region was analyzed through kinematic investigation in the performed experiments. The experimental outcomes, which confirm the high rate and dip angle of subduction, and also the back-arc extension, can be identified as characteristics of the Sistan Ocean's subduction zone under the Lut block. The Cornubian Batholith (SW England) is an archetypal Variscan rare metal granite with potential for Li-mica mineralization. We present a petrographic, trace element and multivariate statistical study of micas from the Cornubian Batholith granite series and related hydrothermally altered units to assess the role of magmatic vs subsolidus processes and of fluxing elements (F and B) on the Li cycle during the evolution of the system. The mica types are as follows: (1) magmatic, which include Fe-biotite, protolithionite I and phengite-muscovite from the most primitive granites, and zinnwaldite I from more fractionated lithologies; (2) subsolidus, which encompass high-temperature autometasomatic Li-micas and low-temperature hydrothermal muscovite-phengite. Autometasomatic species include protolithionite II, zinnwaldite II and lepidolite, which were observed in the most fractionated and hydrothermally altered units, and occur as replacements of magmatic micas. Low-temperature hydrothermal Li-poor micas formed via alteration of magmatic and autometasomatic micas or as replacement of feldspars, and albeit occur in all studied lithologies they are best represented by the granite facies enriched in metasomatic tourmaline. The evolution of micas follows two major trends underlining a coupling and decoupling between the Li(F) and B fluxes. These include as follows: (1) a Li(F)-progressive trend explaining the formation of protolithionite I and zinnwaldite I, which fractionate Li along with Cs, Nb and Sn during the late-magmatic stages of crystallization, and of zinnwaldite II and lepidolite forming from the re-equilibration of primary micas with high-temperature Li-B-W-Tl-Cs-Mn-W-rich autometasomatic fluids; (2) a Li(F)-retrogressive trend explaining the low-temperature hydrothermal muscovitization, which represents the main Li depletion process. Trace element geochemistry and paragenesis of late muscovite-phengite support that muscovitization is a district-scale process that affected the upper parts of the granite cupolas through acidic and B(Fe-Sn)-saturated hydrothermal fluids associated with metasomatic tourmalinization, which were mixed with a low Eh meteoric component. Many scientific studies have been conducted to constrain present and past source‐to‐sink processes and their controlling factors. The role of typhoon and monsoon rainfall on chemical weathering and soils erosion in east Asia is still not well established. Clay minerals and major elements, combined with Nd and Sr isotopic compositions were analyzed on sediments from Core MD18‐3569 located on the Taiwan margin in the northeastern South China Sea. The aim was to reconstruct the weathering history of small river basins of southwest Taiwan and to establish the impact of East Asian summer monsoon and typhoon rainfall on source to sink processes since the last glacial period. 87Sr/86Sr and ɛNd values and predominant illite‐chlorite indicate that the rivers of southwest Taiwan is the sole source of sediments to Core MD18‐3569 since last deglaciation. Variations in clay mineral assemblages and major elements allowed us to evaluate the intensity of past weathering in the rivers of southwest Taiwan. We demonstrated that long‐term changes of chemical weathering intensity record from Taiwan are driven by changes in the summer monsoon rainfall. The deglaciation is characterized by a progressive increase in the intensity of chemical weathering, which peaked at the beginning of the Holocene. The chemical weathering degree of sediments from Taiwan decreases during the Holocene concurrently with a weakening of the summer monsoon, increase in typhoon activity, and changes in the vegetation cover. All these processes induce soil erosion, regressive pedogenesis, due to shorter residence time of minerals in the soils of southwest Taiwan. Plain Language Summary: East Asian summer monsoon and typhoon rainfall are important controls on the sediment transfer from land‐sea. It is important to understand their impacts on chemical weathering and soil erosion. We analyzed the clay mineralogy and geochemistry of sediments from Core MD18‐3569, from the Taiwan margin in the South China Sea, to trace the provenance of the sediments and reconstruct the chemical weathering history of soils of southwestern Taiwan since last glacial period. Clay minerals and Nd and Sr isotopic compositions determine that the rivers of southwest Taiwan are the sources of sediments to Core MD18‐3569. Changes in chemical weathering intensity from Taiwan, recorded by clay mineral assemblages and major elements, are controlled by the East Asian summer monsoon precipitation and temperature changes from the last glacial period to the early Holocene. Chemical weathering intensity in southwestern Taiwan reaches its maximum in the early Holocene, which is associated with the increase in monsoon precipitation and temperature. During the Holocene, the weakening of the summer monsoon rainfall is accompanied by changes in vegetation cover and an increase extreme typhoon rainfall, resulting in significant soil erosion, shortening of sediment residence time, and reducing chemical weathering intensity in the southwestern of Taiwan. Dengfeng Coalfield represents a significant coalfield in Henan Province, North China. It is therefore essential to gain an understanding of the mineralogy and geochemistry of the Dengfeng coal, both from a geochemical perspective and in terms of the wider environmental context. In this study, a total of 27 coal bench samples were collected from the No. II1 coal of the Dengfeng Coalfield. The mineral species and major elements were quantitatively analysed using the X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence methods, respectively. The minerals in the Dengfeng coal are dominated by ammonian illite and kaolinite with average contents of 3.73% and 7.47%, respectively. These are followed by calcite (2.74% on average) and ankerite (0.49%). The mean value of the kaolinite Hinkley index, which is a quantitative measure of kaolinite crystallinity, is 1.26. This suggests that kaolinite formation is primarily driven by diagenetic recrystallisation. The ammonian illite exhibits an average d001 of 10.2995 Å, indicative of a prevalence of NH4+ interlayer cations, with K+ also present in notable quantities. The ratio of NH4⁺ to (NH4⁺ + K⁺) has an average value of 0.90, which is indicative of the predominance of NH4⁺. The mean value of the illite Kübler index, which is a quantitative measure of illite crystallinity, is 0.264. This suggests that the diagenetic conditions correspond to the rank of the Dengfeng coal. The kaolinite present in the Dengfeng coal is suggested to have been derived from terrigenous detritus and subsequently subjected to diagenetic recrystallisation, resulting in a relatively high Hinkley index. The ammonian illite in the Dengfeng coal was predominantly formed through the conversion of the precursor kaolinite, with the influence of seawater during peat accumulation favouring the conversion of kaolinite to ammonian illite. ABSTRACT Lake systems are among the largest integrated depositional complexes in the continental realm. Their interplay with tectonics and climate often complicates the interpretation of depositional processes, usually resulting in a complex facies architecture that is challenging to correlate regionally. The Lower to Middle Permian Roseneath–Epsilon–Murteree strata of the Cooper Basin in Australia represent a glacially influenced fluvial–deltaic lake system, which hosts substantial petroleum resources. Despite their potential, the Roseneath–Epsilon–Murteree strata are inadequately understood in terms of regional facies architecture and their palaeogeographical implications. Using a multidisciplinary approach with robust data, including cores, petrology, wireline logs and geochemistry, the sedimentary evolution of the Roseneath–Epsilon–Murteree strata is described within a new basin‐wide sequence stratigraphic framework defined by key surfaces identified from cores and wireline logs. Detailed facies analysis of over 1400 m of cores and wireline logs from nine wells identified twelve lithofacies and eight facies associations, revealing various depositional processes and environments. The Roseneath–Epsilon–Murteree strata are interpreted as having formed in a fluvial–deltaic–lacustrine system influenced by a cold climate. First‐order and second‐order maximum flooding surfaces define a regional sequence stratigraphic framework, subdividing the Roseneath–Epsilon–Murteree strata into four sequence units (SU1, SU2, SU3 and SU4), deposited during four phases (I, II, III and IV). Cyclic stacking patterns observed in both cores and wireline logs reveal two transgressive–regressive cycles. Palaeogeographical maps of the four depositional phases suggest that the Roseneath–Epsilon–Murteree strata were dominated by a lacustrine system with some delta and mire deposits. Rivers primarily drained towards the south/south‐west from the Gidgealpa, Merrimelia, Packsaddle and Innamincka ridges (‘GMI Trend’) as indicated by decreasing sandstone percentages and increasing gross unit isopach maps. The deposition of the Roseneath–Epsilon–Murteree strata was primarily controlled by basin subsidence. Additionally, palaeoclimate trends and extensive glaciation in the Permian played important roles in providing sediments and affecting lake level changes. The lake system recorded by the Roseneath–Epsilon–Murteree strata serves as an analogue for other fluvial–deltaic–lacustrine systems in basins worldwide. Cambrian shales in China and elsewhere contain abundant oil and gas resources. However, due to its deep burial and limited outcrop, there has been relatively little research conducted on it. The Cambrian shale of the Tadong low uplift in the Tarim Basin of western China, specifically the Xidashan–Xishanbulake Formation (Fm.) and overlying Moheershan Fm. provide a case study through the use of organic petrology, mineralogy, organic and elemental geochemistry, with the aim of analyzing and exploring the hydrocarbon generation potential (PG) and organic matter (OM) enrichment mechanisms within these shale formations. The results indicate that: (1) the Cambrian shale of the Tadong low uplift exhibits relatively dispersed OM that consists of vitrinite‐like macerals and solid bitumen. These formations have a higher content of quartz and are primarily composed of silica‐based lithology; (2) shale samples from the Xidashan–Xishanbulake and Moheershan formations demonstrate high total organic carbon (TOC) and low S2 content. The OM is predominantly type I and type II kerogens, indicating a high level of maturation in the wet gas period. These shales have undergone extensive hydrocarbon generation, showing characteristics of relatively poor PG; (3) the sedimentary environments of the Xidashan–Xishanbulake and Moheershan formations in the Tadong low uplift are similar. They were deposited in warm and humid climatic conditions, in oxygen‐deficient environments, with stable terrigenous inputs, high paleoproductivity, high paleosalinity, weak water‐holding capacity, and no significant hydrothermal activity; and (4) the relationship between TOC and the paleoproductivity parameter (P/Ti) is most significant in the Lower Cambrian Xidashan–Xishanbulake Fm., whereas correlation with other indicators is not evident. This suggests a productivity‐driven OM enrichment model, where input of land‐derived material was relatively small during the Middle Cambrian, and the ancient water exhibited lower salinity. A comprehensive pattern was formed under the combined control of paleoproductivity and preservation conditions. This study provides valuable guidance for oil and gas exploration in the Tarim Basin. The use of tracers, particularly isotope geochemistry tracers, is the most efficient method for understanding and providing fresh perspectives on hydrologic processes. The purpose of this study is to determine the stable isotope and geochemical characteristics of groundwater alluvial aquifers in eastern Ethiopia. Samples of water from rainfall, surface water, and groundwater sources were gathered and analyzed. The research discovered that EC, pH, and TDS fluctuated from 871 to 6090 μS/cm, 6 to 8.2, and 558 to 3898 mg/L, correspondingly. In both regions major cation and anion concentrations fall in the order of Ca2+ > Na+ > Mg2+ > K+ and SO42− > HCO3− > Cl− > NO3− respectively. The most common water types are mixed Na-Mg-Ca, Ca-Cl, Na-Cl, and Ca- HCO3−. Hydrogeochemical experiments revealed that carbonate and silicate weathering and ionic exchanges primarily govern the supply of important ions in the waters and the geochemical history. The stable isotopic compositions vary from − 2.772 to − 0.418 ‰ with a mean value of− 1.772 ‰, for oxygen and from− 10.37 to 1.01 ‰ with a mean value of− 4.306 ‰ for hydrogen. The results show precipitation has been found to have more enriched isotope compositions than groundwater. In other words, both the hydrogen and oxygen isotope of groundwater are depleted than the precipitation isotope composition. The findings contribute to our knowledge of the stable isotope and geochemistry and are useful in determining the primary compositions of groundwater, water type, and the hydrogeochemistry of semi-arid areas. The role of subglacial abrasion in sustaining subglacial microbiomes is an area of growing interest. It is likely that subglacial abrasion produces a range of bioutilisable compounds, some released from fluid inclusions in the confines of the mineral matrix and some produced via the surface free radicals that crushing produces in a variety of different minerals. As yet, the geochemical reactions which are initiated by abrasion remain poorly understood. This is largely because of the multiple potential sources and sinks of free radicals that occur in even the most simple of multi-mineralic system during crushing and subsequent wetting of the mixture. We illustrate this assertion by conducting a series of laboratory experiments where common, "simple" silicate minerals, such as quartz and feldspar, are abraded and incubated with ultra-pure water. Gaseous reaction products included CH4, H2 and CO2. The concentrations of major ions (including Na+, K+, Mg2+, and Ca2+), dissolved silicate, dissolved iron and pH of the solution during incubation are reported. These results were used to calculate HCO3- in solution and the saturation index with respect to various minerals using PHREEQCi. We found that abrasion of silicates produces bio-available gases and has the potential to increase the concentration of various weathering products in solution. Further, we found that even trace amounts of carbonates, an impurity in many natural rocks and minerals, may significantly affect the reaction products, making it challenging to concretize the reactions taking place. These results highlight the importance of conducting abrasion experiments utilising natural samples to better understand how apparently negligeable changes in mineralogy might affect the reaction products of abrasion and crushing. We present bulk-rock and mineral Fe isotope data of ultramafic to mafic xenoliths and basaltic to andesitic lavas from Adagdak Volcano (Adak Island, Central Aleutians) to study the effects of early differentiation on the Fe isotopic evolution of island arc basalts and their crystallization products. The Fe isotope composition of ultramafic cumulate xenoliths increases from dunite (δ56Fe = –0.09 to –0.02 ‰) to clinopyroxenite (δ56Fe = +0.06 to +0.09 ‰), consistent with higher modal proportions of clinopyroxene (δ56Fe = –0.05 to +0.11 ‰) relative to olivine (δ56Fe = –0.10 to +0.06 ‰) in the latter. Mid-crustal cumulate amphibole gabbro and hornblendite cumulates also record heavier Fe isotope compositions (δ56Fe = +0.04 to +0.08 ‰) due to the abundance of isotopically heavy amphibole (δ56Fe = +0.07 to +0.09 ‰) and magnetite (δ56Fe = +0.11 to +0.13 ‰) in these rocks. High inter-mineral fractionations observed in spinel-olivine and spinel-clinopyroxene pairs (Δ56Fe spl-ol = +0.12 to +0.28 and Δ56Fe spl-cpx = +0.06 to +0.19) suggest that spinel is not recording equilibrium crystallization conditions for the ultramafic assemblages, likely due to subsolidus Fe-Mg exchange. Our data also include Fe isotope measurements of one mantle dunite (δ56Fe = +0.03 ± 0.05 ‰). Five Adagdak lavas, spanning from basalts to andesites, yield a narrow range of δ56Fe between +0.03 and +0.06 ‰. Our results highlight the potential of amphibole in driving the Fe isotope depletion trends observed in many erupted arc lavas, as amphibole hosts 28–99 % of the FeO T budget in the amphibole gabbro and hornblendite cumulates. This is also supported by single-crystal synchrotron Mössbauer spectroscopy of two amphibole grains, the first from an amphibole gabbro and the second from a hornblendite, which yield Fe3+/ΣFe ratios of 0.55 ± 0.06 and 0.58 ± 0.02, respectively. Water content and hydrogen isotope compositions determined by secondary-ion mass spectrometry from the same amphibole grains indicate partial dehydrogenation. Using Rayleigh fractionation modeling to account for oxidation during post-crystallization dehydrogenation, we calculate magmatic Fe3+/ΣFe ratios of 0.41 ± 0.04 for the amphibole gabbro and 0.30 ± 0.05 for the hornblendite. These data are then used to estimate an appropriate Fe force constant for Adagdak amphibole and quantitatively evaluate the effects of amphibole fractionation. Through a fractional crystallization model, we show how arc melts may experience periods of increasing δ56Fe during olivine-dominated fractionation, followed by decreasing δ56Fe once magnetite and amphibole saturate as cumulate phases. Notably, this dichotomy between fractionation of isotopically light versus heavy cumulate assemblages and its effects on the Fe isotope evolution of arc magmas is not captured by the Adagdak lava record, highlighting the utility of cumulates in chronicling the early isotopic evolution of magmatic systems. This research investigates the present status and decadal variability of element distributions in the marine sediments off Doha, on the east coast of Qatar. Twenty elements were considered from 11 sediment sampling stations and 3 dust sampling stations by grouping them into major elements, toxic elements, and other trace elements. The results show elevated concentrations of certain toxic and trace elements, including Ba, Be, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, V, Zn, Mg, and Ti, in the nearshore region, primarily influenced by the settling of dissolved elements under weak hydrodynamic circulations in the Doha Bay. The relatively higher currents in offshore enable quick advection and dispersion of the elements. On the other hand, the dust deposits have caused significant contributions to the Al, As, Mg, Ca, Sr, Fe, Zn, and Cd concentrations. Decadal variability is evident in element concentrations, which are linked to the urbanisation of the capital city in the State of Qatar. The Cu, Ni, V, Zn, and Cd concentrations indicate a notable increase in recent years compared to the last two decades, with values of about 20.7, 17.9, 25.0, 25.9, 0.66 ppm in 2022. In contrast, a few other elements fluctuate between the decades/years. The results pointed out the increased elemental concentrations in the bay due to the vast expansion of infrastructure facilities in the vicinity of Doha Bay in recent years. The Geoaccumulation Index resulted in a slight pollution of Cd, while other elements are unpolluted. The petrogenesis and geodynamic implications of the Early Paleozoic adakitic rocks in the east of Inner Mongolia remain topics of debate. This study presents new petrology data through zircon U-Pb age and Lu-Hf isotopic composition, whole-rock major-trace element geochemistry, and Sr-Nd isotopes from adakitic rocks. The zircon U-Pb dating results demonstrate that the formation age is 242.8 ± 1.0 Ma, which is the product of Early Triassic magmatism. Petrology and geochemical study have shown that the granodiorite have high SiO2 (66.93~69.40%), Al2O3 (15.37~15.43%), and MgO (1.35~1.55%), with LREE enrichment and HREE deficit, and they have high Sr, low Y, and high Sr/Y ratios, showing typical signatures of adakitic rocks. The εHf(t) values of zircon vary between +11.3 and +13.8, with low whole-rock (87Sr/86Sr)i (0.703382) and positive εNd(t) values, and the average Mg# of the rock is 56.14, suggesting that adakite derived from partial melting of MORB materials and magma interaction with the mantle. Comprehensive analysis suggests that during the Late Permian to Early Triassic, the subducted slab of the Paleo-Asian Ocean broke off, and the residual oceanic slab preserved in the mantle beneath the subduction zone underwent partial melting, generating adakitic magma. Coastal aeolian deposits are product of the coupling between aerodynamics and coastal hydrodynamics, which is of great significance for reconstructing aeolian activities and the coastal environmental change. Here, we investigated the coastal aeolian deposits on Changxing Island, northeastern China, using geochemistry and microscopy of the minerals together with the published sedimentological data. The results showed that aeolian deposits are mainly derived from beach sands reworked by wind. Previously published Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) dating results show that the deposition ages of the aeolian deposits are 41 ka, 49 ka, and 67 ka, respectively. The sedimentologic and geochemistry of aeolian deposits are sensitive to climate change. Notably, the micromorphology structure of the surface of quartz sand particles reveals the process of the coastal environment evolution. ∼41 ka, the surface of the grains is characterized by significant subaqueous environments, showing subangular with high relief, large conchoidal fracture, and V-shaped pits. These features correspond to the early sub-interstadial stage of MIS3, characterized by a warm and humid climate and sea level highstand. Under the relative sea level rise, the high rate of sand supply produced by coastal erosion contribute to aeolian deposit formation. In contrast, at 49 ka and 67 ka, the quartz grain exhibits typical aeolian environment features that exhibits subrounded with low relief, upturned plates, and dish-shaped pits, which respond to glacial periods of cold and windy conditions and sea level lowstand. The exposure of abundant sandy material, coupled with lower vegetation cover and strong East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM) contribute to higher sediment availability and sand accumulation. The conditions of the burial environment trigger microstructural modifications and physical‐chemical changes in the bone, such as chemical dissolution, increase of crystallinity, chemical exchanges, collagen degradation and changes in porosity, hence to reproduce these patterns is a challenging task. This work presents a new method to accelerate the diagenetic processes in the laboratory. Artificial aging is obtained by immersion at 80°C in "enriched" solutions derived from the leaching of gravesoils, maintaining the same pH, for 1 month, on modern bones collected from an autopsy. Two distinct solutions from two graves of the necropolis of Travo (IT) (7th–8th century AD) were adopted. The induced damage patterns, on the bone microstructure and the organo‐mineral fraction, have been compared with those observed on buried skeletal elements from the same graves, by providing a multi‐analytical approach (BSE‐SEM, EMPA, FT‐IR, MP‐AES). Bioapatite parameters, such as crystallinity index and Ca/P molar ratio, evolved similarly and, in some cases, reached the same values of buried bones. Conversely, in the absence of microbial activity, the organic fraction better survived the artificial aging. For the same reason, the porosity due to bioerosion was absent in the artificially aged samples, whereas the biological pores and the post‐mortem fractures exhibited the same histomorphology. It is believed that the opportunity of reproducing the diagenetic changes by replicating the chemical environment of the burial site at the laboratory scale is of great interest to forensic science and archaeology (e.g., to reconstruct the burial environment). Acid sulfate soils (ASS) containing hypersulfidic material (pH >4) can, when drained, transform to ASS with a thionic horizon (pH <4), which can cause environmental effects due to the formation of sulfuric acid and the consequent mobilization and leaching of metals and acid into waterways, as well as cause geotechnical problems. Yet, the occurrence of ASS has till now not been a topic of research in Norway. The present pilot study was carried out on an area along the northern coast of Norway. Thirty‐nine localities were sampled and analysed near Alta. Of these, six were classified as ASS with either hypersulfidic or parahypersulfidic material. ASS is not as widespread as within the Baltic Sea area, but the analyses document the occurrence of ASS with hypersulfidic material with high acidifying potential in certain areas if oxidized. This pilot study shows that ASS occurs in specific areas. Three localities with documented ASS were studied in greater detail. Here, sections were excavated and analysed to help with the understanding of the geological context of these occurrences. In this way, the geological prerequisites considered of importance of soils with ASS with hypersulfidic material are outlined. The prerequisites for ASS occurrence that evolved during this study include young, marine, fine‐grained deposits and a low relief environment subjected to episodic sedimentation but otherwise calm water and little water exchange. The contemporary scientific investigations delves into the mechanisms of migration, distribution, and fractionation of rare earth elements and yttrium (REE + Y) in aqueous environments characterized by humid and arid sedimentogenesis. This particular facet has been employed to solve numerous fundamental inquiries pertaining to lithology and paleolimnology. The manner in which REE + Y behave in water bodies within the cryolithozone remains largely unexplored. By evaluating the concentration levels and distribution patterns of REE + Y in the waters and sediments of the lakes situated in the Ukok Plateau and the Ulagan depression, under the prevailing conditions of cryolithogenesis as the primary geochemical process transforming rocks, soils, and sediments, we were able to augment the existing comprehension of nival sedimentation. In all the lakes examined, the content of REE + Y in the water exhibits a similar magnitude as that of small lakes in other landscape zones of the southern Western Siberia, while the content level of REE + Y is greater in the bottom sediments. The concentrations, distribution and fractionation of REE + Y vary from lake to lake and are determined by several factors: the chemical properties of REE + Y in solutions, the intensity of transformation of host rocks and the mineral forms of the REE + Y in the rocks (minerals). The concentrations, distribution and fractionation of REE + Y in bottom sediments vary slightly from lake to lake except for the contents of Eu, Y, La. The content of Eu, Y, La in the bottom sediment of the lake is influenced by a combination of factors, including their concentrations in the water, the redox conditions of diagenesis, and the mineral composition of the bottom sediment, particularly the amount of accessory minerals. This paper documents the zircon U–Pb ages, whole-rock geochemistry, and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopes of the Mesozoic granites in the central part of the North Qilian Orogenic Belt to provide information on the tectonic evolution and crustal accretion process of the Qilian Orogenic Belt. Zircon U–Pb dating yields an age of 215.3 ± 3.1 Ma, indicating that the Beidaban monzogranites formed from Late Triassic. They are characterized by high contents of SiO2, Al2O3, and K2O; are slightly peraluminous (A/CNK = 1.08–1.15); and have mineralogical assemblages of primary biotite and ilmenite, illustrating that they are shoshonitic and peraluminous S-type granite. The Beidaban monzogranites have initial (87Sr/86Sr)i values ranging from 0.71456 to 0.71867 and εNd(t) values ranging from –12.9 to –8.5 with two-stage Nd model ages of 1.69–2.04 Ga, suggesting that they originated from partial melting of the Paleo-Mesoproterozoic (Longshoushan Group) continental crustal metasedimentary rocks. Initial Pb isotopic compositions (206Pb/204Pb = 19.44–21.80; 207Pb/204Pb = 15.76–15.89; 208Pb/204Pb = 39.62–41.26) and geochemical features such as high Th/Ta (9.3–67.4, 37.4 on average) and Rb/Nb (12.5–17.1) are consistent with recycled crustal components. Combined with previous geochronological and geochemical data, we suggest that the Mesozoic granites probably formed in a post-collisional tectonic setting and that the North Qilian Orogen Belt experienced comprehensive intracontinental orogenesis after the closure of the Qilian ocean. The integration of archaeological, historical and geoarchaeological records represents a significant contribution to research into the medieval landscape. This study focuses on the medieval field system in the deserted village of Debrné, located in northeastern Bohemia, Czechia. The village features a well‐preserved croft plužina field system, a typical historical landscape of central Europe. The main and most visible elements of the field system are the earthen field boundaries, which were the focus of the geoarchaeological investigations. Archaeological excavations in trench S1 revealed a collection of larger stones at a depth of 1 m, potentially serving a drainage function akin to the observed plužina. Additionally, a boulder paving, identified as a remnant of a path between fields, provided insights into the historical use of the area. In trench S2, positioned closer to the village's core, layers with increasing stone content were recorded at a depth of 130 cm. However, the drainage structure observed in trench S1 was not replicated. The dating of earthen field boundaries indicated the creation of the terrace in the second half of the 16th century in trench S1. In trench S2, radiocarbon dating at a depth of 70 to 80 cm ranged from 1025 to 1175 A.D., predating the first written source about Debrné. Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating in trench S2 suggested exposure to sunlight during the third century A.D. Archaeobotanical analysis of charred macroremains from trench S1 revealed 236 plant macroremains belonging to approximately 20 taxa, showcasing wild‐growing, collected useful species such as raspberry, blackberry and elderberry. Trench S2 yielded 23 plant macroremains belonging to 11 taxa, with similar species as trench S1. Pedological and micromorphological examinations displayed distinct layering in both trenches, showing up to six layers. Micromorphological analysis unveiled vuggy microstructures, varying grain sizes and elemental patterns, shedding light on different periods of occupation. Multidisciplinary investigations of the buried soils forming the earthen field boundaries discovered that the original soil cover comprised automorphic lixisols and cambisols, which also form under present conditions. These results underscore the importance of integrating pedological, geoarchaeological, archaeobotanical and physical data to comprehend the intricate nature of anthropogenic landscape changes. The physical process of crystal-melt separation is responsible for the accumulation of small to very large volumes (>100 km3) of eruptible rhyolitic melt in the shallow crust. Granitic intrusions, although providing a terminal, time-integrated image of melt segregation processes, host an unmatched record of the physical properties controlling mechanisms and rates of interstitial melt extraction from a crystal-rich source. We applied mass balance calculations and thermodynamic modeling simulations to an extensive bulk rock geochemistry dataset (>150 samples) collected in a Permian upper-crustal granitoid intrusion of the Italian Southern Alps. Textural and geochemical evidence indicate that this intrusion constituted a single, zoned magma body, with a crystal-rich base and a thick (~2 km), high-silica cap (75–77 wt% SiO₂). The large compositional variability of the crystal-rich materials suggests variable degrees of melt extraction efficiency and corresponding terminal porosities. Specifically, the loosely bimodal distribution of porosity values (φ) indicates that at least two distinct melt segregation mechanisms were operating in this system, which produced both high (0.65–0.45) and low terminal porosities (0.45–0.25) in the crystal-rich, cumulate materials. Modeling of latent heat budget shows that coexistence of cumulate products with differing terminal porosity signature can be explained by melt segregation processes taking place at different depths across a thick, interconnected magmatic reservoir with an initial homogenous water content (~4 wt% H2O). Deep in the mush column, low water activities (a H₂O < 0.5) promoted thermal buffering of cooling magma at high crystallinities, enabling residual melt extraction by percolation through a crystalline framework accompanied by compaction. Instead, at shallower depths, high water activities (a H₂O > 0.5) ensured prolonged magma residence at porosities that promoted crystal melt separation via hindered settling. Distinct melt extraction processes, acting synchronously but at different depths in vertically extensive silicic mush columns, can account for the large volumes of residual, haplogranitic melt mobilized during the relatively short lifespan of upper crustal magma reservoirs (~105 years). Bagana is a persistently active stratovolcano located on Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea. Characteristic activity consists of prolonged lava effusion over months to years, with occasional shifts to explosive vulcanian or sub Plinian eruptions that threaten surrounding communities. Satellite observations have shown that Bagana is a major SO2 emitter, particularly during eruptive intervals. Despite persistent and potentially hazardous activity, no previous geophysical, petrological, or geochemical studies have constrained the magma storage conditions and reservoir processes at Bagana. To address this knowledge gap, we present new bulk rock major, trace element, and radiogenic isotope data, plus mineral phase major element compositions, for Bagana lavas erupted in 2005 and 2012 and ash erupted in 2016. We use our new data to understand the magmatic processes controlling the typical effusive activity and provide the first estimates of magma storage conditions beneath Bagana. The basaltic andesite bulk rock compositions (56–58 wt% SiO2) of our Bagana lavas reflect accumulation of a plagioclase + clinopyroxene + amphibole + magnetite + orthopyroxene crystal cargo by andesitic-dacitic (57–66 wt% SiO2) carrier melts. Constraints from clinopyroxene and amphibole thermobarometry, amphibole hygrometry, and experimental petrology suggest that the high-An plagioclase + clinopyroxene + amphibole + magnetite assemblage crystallizes from basaltic-basaltic andesite parental magmas with >4 wt% H2O, over a temperature interval of ~1100–900°C, at pressures of ~130–570 MPa, corresponding to ~5–21 km depth. Continued crystallization in the magma storage region at ~5–21 km depth produces andesitic to dacitic residual melts, which segregate and ascend towards the surface. These ascending melts entrain a diverse crystal cargo through interaction with melt-rich and mushy magma bodies. Degassing of carrier melts during ascent results in crystallization of low-An plagioclase and the formation of amphibole breakdown rims. The radiogenic isotope and trace element compositions of Bagana lavas suggest that parental magmas feeding the system derive from an enriched mantle source modified by both slab fluids and subducted sediments. Our findings suggest that the prolonged lava effusion and persistently high gas emissions that characterise Bagana's activity in recent decades are sustained by a steady state regime of near-continuous ascent and degassing of magmas from the crustal plumbing system. Our characterisation of the Bagana magmatic plumbing system during effusive activity provides a valuable framework for interpreting ongoing monitoring data, and for identifying any differences in magmatic processes during any future shift to explosive activity.
