The NOAA Chemical Sciences Laboratory (CSL) conducted the Southwest Urban NO x and VOCs Experiment (SUNVEx) to study emissions and the role of boundary layer (BL) dynamics and sea-breeze (SB) transitions in the evolution of coastal air quality. The study presented utilizes remote sensing and in situ observations in Pasadena, California. Separate analyses are conducted on the synoptic conditions during ozone (O 3) exceedance (>70 ppb) and non-exceedance (<70 ppb) days, as well as the fine-structure variability of in situ chemistry measurements during BL growth and SB transitions. Diurnal analyses spanning August 2021 revealed a markedly different wind direction during evenings preceding O 3 exceedance (northerly) versus non-exceedance (easterly) days. Increased O 3 occurred simultaneously with warmer and drier conditions, a reduction in winds, and an increase in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and fine particulate matter (PM 2.5). While the average BL height was lower and surface pressure was higher, the day-to-day variability of these quantities led to an overall weak statistical relationship. Investigations focused on the fine-structure variability of in situ chemistry measurements superimposed on background trends were conducted using a novel multivariate spectral coherence mapping (MSCM) technique that combined the spectral structure of two or more independent measurements through a wavelet analysis as reported by maximum-normalized scaleograms. A case study was chosen to illustrate the MSCM technique, where the dominant peaks in scaleograms were identified and compared to BL height during the growth phase. The temporal widths of peaks (τmax) derived from VOC and nitrogen oxide (NO x) scaleograms, as well as scaleograms combining VOCs, NO x , and variations in BL height, indicated a broadening with respect to time as the BL increased in depth. A separate section focused on comparisons between τmax and BL height during August 2021 revealed uncorrelated or weakly correlated scatter, except in the case of VOCs when really large τmax and relatively deep BL heights were ignored. Instances of large τmax and relatively deep BL heights occurred near sunrise and as onshore flow entered Pasadena, respectively. Wind transitions likely influenced both the dynamical evolution of the BL and tracer advection and thus offer additional challenges when separating factors contributing to the fine structure. Other insights gained from this work include observations of descending wind jets from the San Gabriel Mountains that were not resolved by the High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model and the derivation of intrinsic properties of oscillations observed in NO x and O 3 during the interaction between an SB and enhanced winds above the BL that flowed in opposition to the SB. This case-control study investigated single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotypes (CXC motif chemokine ligand 8 (CXCL8): rs2227306 and rs2227307 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF): rs1800629) in 85 patients with pain-related temporomandibular disorders (TMDp) and 85 controls to explore their associations with TMDp presence, pain intensity (low/high), and the presence of chronic arthralgia/myalgia. TMDp was diagnosed using a validated protocol, and polymorphisms were genotyped from buccal mucosa swabs using TaqMan assays. High pain intensity individuals had an increased risk for carrying minor allele "G" (rs2227307) and "T" (rs2227306) compared to controls (76% vs. 55.3%, p = 0.012; 72% vs. 54.1%, p = 0.030, respectively). Carriers of the minor allele "G" (rs2227307) were more prevalent in TMDp patients with arthralgia compared to controls (70.30% vs. 55.30%, p = 0.037). According to logistic regression, the most important predictors for high pain intensity were minor allele "G" of rs2227307 (OR 2.435, 95% CI 1.123–5.282), increasing age (OR 1.038, 95% CI 1.002–1.075), and female sex (OR 4.592, 95% CI 1.289–16.361). The explored gene polymorphisms were not significant risk factors for TMDp presence. This study was conducted to verify the effectiveness of chest compressions according to the direction of movement during CPR and to provide basic data for high-quality CPR. The subjects of the study were 28 students in the Department of EMS who had completed the BLS Provider course and were selected through a randomized crossover design, and SPSS 25.0 was used for data analysis. As a result of the study, chest compressions performed in the backward movement showed differences in stability and risk compared to chest compressions in the forward movement(p=0.000), and the average depth of chest compressions was also deeper(p=0.000). When summarizing the results of this study, it was found that the qualitative index of chest compressions was improved due to greater accuracy and improved depth in the rescuer's backward movement rather than forward movement during CPR during movement. A study on 81 individuals (18–75 years old) with mildly impaired fasting blood glucose (FBG) concentrations (98–125 mg/dL) was undertaken to investigate the tolerability of a food supplement (FS) based on Zea mays and Gymnema sylvestre extracts, zinc, and chromium and its efficacy on glucose and lipid metabolism. The subjects were randomized into three groups (27 in each group) and supplemented with one or two tablet(s)/day of FS (groups 1 and 2, respectively), or two tablets/day of placebo (group 3). Blood sampling was carried out at baseline (t0) and after a 3-month treatment (t1), and biochemical parameters associated with glucose and lipid metabolism and kidney and liver toxicity were evaluated. Compared to the placebo, FBG and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) were significantly (p < 0.001) reduced in group 1 subjects. In contrast, at the doses of one and two tablet(s)/day, the FS exerted no effect on the other parameters examined. We conclude that in subjects with slightly impaired FBG, ingestion of a FS based on Z. mays and G. sylvestre extracts, zinc, and chromium over 3 months lowers FBG and modulates glucose homeostasis by improving glucose metabolism. Historically, pediatric liver transplantation has achieved significant milestones, yet recent innovations have predominantly occurred in adult liver transplantation due to higher caseloads and ethical barriers in pediatric studies. Emerging methods subsumed under the term artificial intelligence offer the potential to revolutionize data analysis in pediatric liver transplantation by handling complex datasets without the need for interventional studies, making them particularly suitable for pediatric research. This review provides an overview of artificial intelligence applications in pediatric liver transplantation. Despite some promising early results, artificial intelligence is still in its infancy in the field of pediatric liver transplantation, and its clinical implementation faces several challenges. These include the need for high-quality, large-scale data and ensuring the interpretability and transparency of machine and deep learning models. Ethical considerations, such as data privacy and the potential for bias, must also be addressed. Future directions for artificial intelligence in pediatric liver transplantation include improving donor-recipient matching, managing long-term complications, and integrating diverse data sources to enhance predictive accuracy. Moreover, multicenter collaborations and prospective studies are essential for validating artificial intelligence models and ensuring their generalizability. If successfully integrated, artificial intelligence could lead to substantial improvements in patient outcomes, bringing pediatric liver transplantation again to the forefront of innovation in the transplantation community. Financial inclusion has become a strategic factor to reduce poverty and income inequality and achieve sustainable economic growth. The objective of this work was to study the impact of financial inclusion (access, owning, and usage of financial services dimensions) on women's human development indicators (health, education, and standard of living) in the Federal States of Mexico. The study sample was made up of 448 observations during the 2007-2020 period, that is, 14 units of analysis per Federal State. The econometric results showed that access to financial services increases the Human Development Index [HDI] and the education sub-index for women. The owning of financial products improved the HDI and its education, health, and standard of living components for women; credit financial instruments, in particular, enhanced human development indicators for women. The usage of the financial services component increased the HDI as well as the education and standard of living sub-indices. This study has practical implications for those responsible for designing and approving public policies and regulations in Mexico regarding financial inclusion and human development from a gender perspective. The present study aims to characterise the pharmacokinetics of rifampicin (RIF) in tuberculosis (TB) patients with and without HIV co-infection, considering the formation of 25-O-desacetyl-rifampicin (desRIF). It is hypothesised that the metabolite formation, HIV co-infection and drug formulation may further explain the interindividual variation in the exposure to RIF. Pharmacokinetic, clinical, and demographic data from TB patients with (TB-HIV+ group; n = 18) or without HIV (TB-HIV− group; n = 15) who were receiving RIF as part of a four-drug fixed-dose combination (FDC) regimen (RIF, isoniazid, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol) were analysed, along with the published literature data on the relative bioavailability of different formulations. A population pharmacokinetic model, including the formation of desRIF, was developed and compared to a model based solely on the parent drug. HIV co-infection does not alter the plasma exposure to RIF and the desRIF formation does not contribute to the observed variability in the RIF disposition. The relative bioavailability and RIF plasma exposure were significantly lower than previously reported for the standard regimen with FDC tablets. Furthermore, participants weighting less than 50 kg do not reach the same RIF plasma exposure as compared to those weighting >50 kg. In conclusion, as no covariate was identified other than body weight on CL/F and Vd/F, low systemic exposure to RIF is likely to be caused by the low bioavailability of the formulation. With the rapid iteration and update of wearable flexible devices, high-energy-density flexible lithium-ion batteries are rapidly thriving. Flexibility, energy density, and safety are all important indicators for flexible lithiumion batteries, which can be determined jointly by material selection and structural design. Here, recent progress on high-energy-density electrode materials and flexible structure designs are discussed. Commercialized electrode materials and the next-generation high-energy-density electrode materials are analyzed in detail. The electrolytes with high safety and excellent flexibility are classified and discussed. The strategies to increase the mass loading of active materials on the electrodes by designing the current collector and electrode structure are discussed with keys of representative works. And the novel configuration structures to enhance the flexibility of batteries are displayed. In the end, it is pointed out that it is necessary to quantify the comprehensive performance of flexible lithium-ion batteries and simultaneously enhance the energy density, flexibility, and safety of batteries for the development of the next-generation high-energy-density flexible lithium-ion batteries. In this study, we examine whether not-for-profit organizations actively manage their pension accounting assumptions and whether their assumptions are, as prior research suggests, more aggressive than those of for-profit organizations. Using a 17-year panel dataset collected from audited financial statements, we compare the accounting assumptions (the expected rate of return and the discount rate) of not-for-profit and for-profit firms. We also examine the not-for-profit sample alone to test for accounting bias motivated by various financial incentives. We model accounting assumptions as levels (between-firms) as well as changes over time (within-firms). Contrary to prior research, we find no evidence that not-for-profits use more aggressive assumptions than for-profits. Furthermore, we find that most of the accounting biases of not-for-profits are explained by between-firm variation rather than within-firm variation, suggesting that although not-for-profits use biased assumptions, they may not actively adjust them to target financial benchmarks. Logged and disturbed forests are often viewed as degraded and depauperate environments compared with primary forest. However, they are dynamic ecosystems1 that provide refugia for large amounts of biodiversity2,3, so we cannot afford to underestimate their conservation value4. Here we present empirically defined thresholds for categorizing the conservation value of logged forests, using one of the most comprehensive assessments of taxon responses to habitat degradation in any tropical forest environment. We analysed the impact of logging intensity on the individual occurrence patterns of 1,681 taxa belonging to 86 taxonomic orders and 126 functional groups in Sabah, Malaysia. Our results demonstrate the existence of two conservation-relevant thresholds. First, lightly logged forests (<29% biomass removal) retain high conservation value and a largely intact functional composition, and are therefore likely to recover their pre-logging values if allowed to undergo natural regeneration. Second, the most extreme impacts occur in heavily degraded forests with more than two-thirds (>68%) of their biomass removed, and these are likely to require more expensive measures to recover their biodiversity value. Overall, our data confirm that primary forests are irreplaceable5, but they also reinforce the message that logged forests retain considerable conservation value that should not be overlooked.An analysis of the impact of logging intensity on biodiversity in tropical forests in Sabah, Malaysia, identifies a threshold of tree biomass removal below which logged forests still have conservation value. Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic bacterial disease, as well as a complex immune disease. The occurrence, development, and prognosis of TB are not only related to the pathogenicity of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), but also related to the patient's own immune state. The research and development of immunotherapy drugs can effectively regulate the body's anti-TB immune responses, inhibit or eliminate Mtb, alleviate pathological damage, and facilitate rehabilitation. This paper reviews the research progress of immunotherapeutic compounds for TB, including immunoregulatory compounds and repurposing drugs, and points out the existing problems and future research directions, which lays the foundation for studying new agents for host-directed therapies of TB. Background/Aim: The purpose of the current study was to compare the vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) levels in the aqueous humor of patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and non-glaucomatous eyes and reveal any potential statistically significant correlations. Patients and Methods: This was an observational cross-sectional study. Aqueous humor samples (50-100 µl) were collected under aseptic conditions, from the anterior chamber at the start of glaucoma or cataract surgery. The levels of VEGF-A were measured using a multiplex bead-based immunoassay. Results: Aqueous humor samples were obtained from 76 participants: 39 with POAG and 36 with age-related cataracts as controls. VEGF-A levels were significantly elevated in the POAG group (166.37±110.04 pg/ml, p=0.011) compared to the control group (119.02±49.09 pg/ml). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that VEGF-A had significant prognostic ability for POAG (AUC=0.67; p=0.006). An optimal cut-off for VEGF-A was found to be 148.5 pg/ml with a sensitivity of 54%, specificity of 81.1%, positive prognostic value (PPV) of 75% and negative prognostic value (NPV) of 62.5%. Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for sex and age, patients with VEGF-A higher than 148.5 pg/ml had almost 10 times greater likelihood for POAG. Objective: To investigate the antioxidant activity of fermented tartaty buckwheat extract of Pleurotus eryngii in vitro as well as its protective effect on alcohol-induced liver and gastric mucosa injury in vivo. Methods: The study involved determining the contents of functional components in fermented tartary buckwheat extract and observing its antioxidant capacity. Mice models of chronic alcoholic liver and gastric mucosa injury were established using Lieber-DeCarli liquid feed. The protective effects of fermented tartary buckwheat extract at low and high doses (1.5 g/kg B.W., 3.0 g/kg B.W.) were investigated for both liver and gastric mucosa injury. Results: The extract of fermented buckwheat with Pleurotus eryngii contained more antioxidant components, the contents of polyphenols, flavonoids and triterpenes were 11.40±0.32 mg GAE/g DW, 17.19±0.30 mg RE/g DW and 7.59±0.24 mg/g, respectively. The contents of rutin and quercetin were as follows: 13.55±0.05 and 0.665±0.01 mg/g. The iron reducing antioxidant capacity and DPPH and ABTS+ free radical scavenging efficiency of Tartary buckwheat extract were 16.66±0.65, 33.49±1.26 and 15.68±1.17 µmol Trolox/g DW, respectively. Compared with the model group, both high-dose and low-dose groups significantly reduced malondialdehyde (P<0.05), aspartate aminotransferase (P<0.01), alanine aminotransferase (P<0.01), lactate dehydrogenase (P<0.05), and interleukin-1β (P<0.05) levels and significantly increased levels of superoxide dismutase (P<0.01) and glutathione peroxidase (P<0.01), downregulated protein expression levels of reactive oxygen species (P<0.01), rat sarcoma (P<0.01), rapidly accelerated fibrosarcoma (P<0.01), extracellular signal-regulated kinases (P<0.05), and mitogen activated protein kinase kinase (P<0.05). Conclusion: Fermented tartaty buckwheat extract of Pleurotus eryngii has good antioxidant activity, and has obvious protective effect on chronic alcoholic liver and gastric mucosa injury in mice. Polychlorinated diphenyl ethers (PCDEs), persistent environmental pollutants, are found in flue gas from incinerators. While air pollution control systems (APCSs) capture pollutants, the resulting sludge/fly ash (SFA) requires further treatment due to residual PCDEs and other harmful substances. This study investigated a hazardous waste thermal treatment system (HAWTTS) utilizing flameless combustion technology alongside a multistage APCS (scrubbers, cyclone demisters, bag houses). SFA from the APCS was recirculated for secondary combustion. PCDE levels were measured before and after each unit within the HAWTTS. The HAWTTS achieved a remarkable overall PCDE removal efficiency of 99%. However, the incinerator alone was less effective for low-chlorine PCDEs. Scrubbers and bag houses exhibited lower removal efficiencies (17.8% and 30.9%, respectively) due to the memory effect. Conversely, the cyclone demister achieved a high removal rate (98.2%). Following complete APCS treatment, PCDE emissions were significantly reduced to 1.02 ng/Nm3. While SFA still contained some PCDEs, the flameless combustion's uniform temperature distribution enhanced combustion efficiency, minimizing overall PCDE emissions. This system demonstrates significant potential for mitigating PCDE pollution from incinerators. Further research could focus on optimizing treatment processes to address residual PCDEs in SFA. The quantification of human DNA extracts from forensic samples plays a key role in the forensic genetics process, ensuring maximum efficiency and avoiding repeated analyses, over-amplified samples, or unnecessary examinations. In our laboratory, we use the Quantifiler® Trio system to quantify DNA extracts from a wide range of samples extracted from traces (bloodstains, saliva, semen, tissues, etc.), including swabs from touched objects, which are very numerous in the forensic context. This method has been extensively used continuously for nine years, following an initial validation process, and is part of the ISO/IEC 17025 accredited method. In routine practice, based on the quantitative values determined from the extracts of each trace, we use a standard method or a low-copy-number method that involves repeating the amplification with the generation of a consensus genetic profile. Nowadays, when the quantification results are less than 0.003 ng/μL in the minimum extraction volume (40 μL), we do not proceed with the DNA extract analysis. By verifying the limits of the method, we make a conscious cost-benefit choice, in particular by using the least amount of DNA needed to obtain sufficiently robust genetic profiles appropriate for submission to the Italian DNA Forensic Database. In this work, we present a critical re-evaluation of this phase of the method, which is based on the use of standard curves obtained from the average values of the control DNA analysed in duplicate. Considering the various contributions to uncertainty that are difficult to measure, such as manual pipetting or analytical phases carried out by different operators, we have decided to thoroughly investigate the contribution of variability in the preparation of calibration curves to the final results. Thus, 757 samples from 20 independent experiments were re-evaluated using two different standards for the construction of curves, determining the quantitative differences between the two methods. The experiments also determined the parameters of the slope, Y-intercept, R2, and the values of the synthetic control probe to verify how these parameters can provide information on the final outcome of each analysis. The outcome of this revalidation demonstrated that it is preferable to use quantification ranges rather than exact quantitative limits before deciding how to analyse the extracts via PCR or forgoing the determination of profiles. Additionally, we present some preliminary data related to the analysis of samples that would not have been analysed based on the initial validation, from which genetic profiles were obtained after applying a concentration method to the extracts. Our goal is to improve the accredited analytical method, with a careful risk assessment as indicated by accreditation standards, ensuring that no source of evidence is lost in the reconstruction of a criminal event. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the sleep quality as well as the influence of social support on the sleep quality of elderly people in nursing homes in northeast China, and analyze the chain-mediating role of psychological adjustment and coping styles in social support and sleep quality, thereby to provide a scientific basis for the development of effective intervention measures in this direction. Patients and Methods: This study was conducted during January–March 2023 and adopted a cluster sampling method to select 5 elderly care institutions from across the Jilin, Liaoning, and Heilongjiang provinces in Northeast China. A questionnaire survey was conducted using the Self-mate General Situation Questionnaire, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Nursing Home Adjustment Scale for the Elderly, Social Support Rating Scale, and Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire. Statistical analysis methods, including ANOVA, logistic multi-factor regression, and Pearson's correlation were employed in SPSS 26.0, while Amos 26.0 was used to build a structural equation model to analyze the interaction path and the mediating role between the variables. Results: The sleep quality of elderly individuals in elderly care institutions was relatively low 8.43(3.456). Social support of elderly individuals in elderly care institutions affected their sleep quality through i) both psychological adjustment and face-to-face coping style (B = 0.493, P < 0.001, 95% CI = 0.050– 0.122) and ii) both psychological adjustment and avoidance coping style (B = − 0.302, P < 0.001, 95% CI = − 0.119 to − 0.048). Psychological adjustment, confrontation coping, and avoidance coping played a mediating role in the sequential relationship between social support and the sleep quality of elderly individuals in elderly care institutions. Conclusion: Psychological adjustment and coping styles have a chain-mediating effect between social support and sleep quality of the elderly in northeast China's elderly care institutions. Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have attracted much attention as highly efficient, eco-friendly energy conversion devices. However, carbon-supported Pt (Pt/C) catalysts for PEMFCs still have several problems, such as low long-term stability, to be widely commercialized in fuel cell applications. To address the stability issues of Pt/C such as the dissolution, detachment, and agglomeration of Pt nanoparticles under harsh operating conditions, we design an interesting fabrication process to produce a highly active and durable Pt catalyst by introducing a robust carbon shell on the Pt surface. Furthermore, this approach provides insights into how to regulate the carbon shell layer for fuel cell applications. Through the application of an appropriate amount of H2 gas during heat treatment, the carbon shell pores, which are integral to the structure, can be systematically modulated to facilitate oxygen adsorption for the oxygen reduction reaction. Simultaneously, the carbon shell functions as a protective barrier, preventing catalyst degradation. In this regard, we investigate an in-depth analysis of the effects of critical parameters including H2 content and the flow rate of H2/N2 mixed gas during heat treatment to prepare better catalysts. Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a leading cause of chronic kidney disease and affects approximately 40% of individuals with diabetes. Cases of DKD continue to rise globally as the prevalence of diabetes mellitus increases, with an estimated 415 million people living with diabetes in 2015 and a projected 642 million by 2040. DKD is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, representing 34% and 36% of all chronic kidney disease deaths in men and women, respectively. Common comorbidities including hypertension and ageing-related nephron loss further complicate disease diagnosis and progression. The progression of DKD involves several mechanisms including glomerular endothelial cell dysfunction, inflammation, and fibrosis. Targeting these mechanisms has formed the basis of several therapeutic agents. Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) blockers, specifically angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), demonstrate significant reductions in macroalbuminuria. Sodium-glucose transporter type 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors demonstrate kidney protection independent of diabetes control while also decreasing the incidence of cardiovascular events. Emerging agents including glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonists, anti-inflammatory agents like bardoxolone, and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists show promise in mitigating DKD progression. Many novel therapies including monoclonal antibodies CSL346, lixudebart, and tozorakimab; mesenchymal stem/stromal cell infusion; and cannabinoid-1 receptor inverse agonism via INV-202 are currently in clinical trials and present opportunities for further drug development. The escalating global prevalence of diabetes highlights an urgent need for advancements in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technologies that are non-invasive, accurate, and user-friendly. Here, we introduce a groundbreaking portable wearable functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) system designed to monitor glucose levels by assessing prefrontal cortex (PFC) activity. Our study delineates the development and application of this novel fNIRS system, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize diabetes management by providing a non-invasive, real-time monitoring solution. Fifteen healthy university students participated in a controlled study, where we monitored their PFC activity and blood glucose levels under fasting and glucose-loaded conditions. Our findings reveal a significant correlation between PFC activity, as measured by our fNIRS system, and blood glucose levels, suggesting the feasibility of fNIRS technology for CGM. The portable nature of our system overcomes the mobility limitations of traditional setups, enabling continuous, real-time monitoring in everyday settings. We identified 10 critical features related to blood glucose levels from extensive fNIRS data and successfully correlated PFC function with blood glucose levels by constructing predictive models. Results show a positive association between fNIRS data and blood glucose levels, with the PFC exhibiting a clear response to blood glucose. Furthermore, the improved regressive rule principal component analysis (PCA) method outperforms traditional PCA in model prediction. We propose a model validation approach based on leave-one-out cross-validation, demonstrating the unique advantages of K-nearest neighbor (KNN) models. Comparative analysis with existing CGM methods reveals that our paper's KNN model exhibits lower RMSE and MARD at 0.11 and 8.96%, respectively, and the fNIRS data were highly significant positive correlation with actual blood glucose levels (r = 0.995, p <0.000). This study provides valuable insights into the relationship between metabolic states and brain activity, laying the foundation for innovative CGM solutions. Our portable wearable fNIRS system represents a significant advancement in effective diabetes management, offering a promising alternative to current technologies and paving the way for future advancements in health monitoring and personalized medicine. The identification of more efficient, clean, secure, and competitive energy supply is necessary to align with the needs of sustainable devices. For this reason, a study for developing innovative dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on microbial pigments is reported starting from Talaromyces atroroseus GH2. The fungus was cultivated by fermentation and the extracellular pigment extract was characterized by HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS analyses. The most abundant compound among the 22 azaphilone-type pigments identified was represented by PP-O. The device's behavior was investigated in relation to electrolyte and pH for verifying the stability on time and the photovoltaic performance. Devices obtained were characterized by UV–vis measurements to verify the absorbance intensity and transmittance percentage. Moreover, photovoltaic parameters through photo-electrochemical measurements (I–V curves) and impedance characteristics by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) were determined. The best microbial device showed a short-circuit current density (Jsc) of 0.69 mA/cm2, an open-circuit photo-voltage (Voc) of 0.27 V and a Fill Factor (FF) of 0.60. Furthermore, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the device was 0.11%. Thus, the present study demonstrated the potential of microbial origin pigments for developing DSSCs. Synthetic sunscreen offers protection against excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, and protects the skin from possible damage. However, they have low efficacy against the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are highly reactive molecules that can be generated in the skin when it is exposed to UV radiation, and are known to play a role in oxidative stress, which can contribute to skin aging and damage. Thus, there is an ongoing search for sunscreens that do not have these negative effects. One promising source for these is natural products. Therefore, the current patent review summarizes topical formulations made from natural compounds that have antioxidant properties and can be used as photoprotective or anti-aging agents, either using a single natural extract or a combination of extracts. The review reports basic patent information (applicant country, type of applicant, and year of filing) and gives details about the invention, including its chemical composition, and the in vitro and in vivo tests performed. These patents describe natural products that can be used to protect the skin and validate their efficacy, and safety, in addition to standardizing their formulations. The compositions described illustrate the consistent innovation in the use of natural products to protect against UV damage and photoaging disorders, a promising field which is receiving growing global recognition. Aerial manipulators expand the application scenarios of manipulators into the air. To complete various operations, the contact force between the aerial manipulator and the target must be precisely controlled. In this study, we first established the mathematical models of the multirotor and the manipulator separately. Their mutual influence is regarded as each other's disturbance, and the overall linkage mechanism is established through analysis. Then, a robust sliding mode control strategy is developed for accurate trajectory tracking. The controller is derived from Lyapunov theory, which can ensure the stability of the closed-loop system. To compensate for the effect of system uncertainty, an adaptive radial basis function neural network is devised to approximate the part of the controller containing the model information. In addition, an impedance controller is designed to convert force control into position control to make the manipulator contact with the target compliantly. Introduction. There is lack of studies on the effect of anti-pronation foot taping on the myoelectric activity of knee muscles. The purpose of this study was to investigate the immediate effect of anti-pronation foot taping on the myoelectric activity of the vastus medialis oblique and vastus lateralis muscles and their activity ratio in patellofemoral pain syndrome. Methods. Twenty-six female patients were randomised into two equal groups. The study group A used augmented low dye taping, while the control group B did not. The patients' age, weight, height and BMi ranged between 18--31 years, 50--73 kg, 1.53--1.72 m and 20--25 kg/m². All patients were evaluated twice; pre- and immediately post-foot taping (pre-test post-test control group design). Normalised data of the myoelectric activity of the knee muscles were recorded using a Neuro-EMG-Micro device during stair climbing and single leg mini-squat. Results. The first 2 x 2 Mixed design MANoVA revealed that the myoelectric activity of the vastus medialis oblique decreased significantly (p = 0.001) during both stair climbing and single leg mini-squat in group A post-taping compared with pre-taping. Similarly, the activity of the vastus medialis oblique decreased significantly (p = 0.019) post-taping in group A compared with group B during single leg mini-squat. The second 2 x 2 Mixed design MANoVA test revealed that the activity ratio decreased significantly (p = 0.001) post-taping compared to pre-taping in group A during stair climbing. Conclusions. In this study, the effect of Tragopogon collinus extract on the viability of probiotic bacteria, physicochemical and sensory properties of probiotic yogurt was investigated. For this purpose, Tragopogon collinus plant extract was extracted using ultrasound method and the amounts of phenolic compounds and chemical compounds of the extract were measured. The results showed that the amount of total phenolic compounds in Tragopogon collinus plant extract was equal to 890.04±2.18 mg gallic acid per gram and most of the extract compounds included n-Hexadecanoic acid (24.25), 4-vinyl guaiacol (19.78). B-Caryophyllene (15.55) and Heneicosane (9.45). In order to investigate the effect of Tragopogon collinus extract on the properties of probiotic yogurt during the 15-day storage period, 3 treatments including control, extract with a concentration of 750 ppm, extract with a concentration of 1000 ppm and physicochemical properties including pH, acidity, synergy, viscosity, viability probiotic bacteria and sensory properties (color, odor, taste and general acceptance) were examined. The results showed that the addition of Tragopogon collinus extract to yogurt affects the physicochemical properties. Samples with extract had lower pH and synergy and higher acidity and viscosity compared to the control sample (P <0.05). Also, in these samples, the process of reducing the survival of probiotic bacteria during the storage period was slower than the control treatment, and despite the effect of the extract on the physicochemical properties of yogurt, yogurt containing the extract was acceptable in terms of sensory properties. Varied evidence found for association of serum uric acid with blood pressure in previous studies. The aim of this study is to find out the association of serum uric acid with blood pressure in urban male population of Prayagraj district situated in Uttar Pradesh, India. This was a case-control study conducted in urban settings of Prayagraj district between April to June 2022. The sample size was 200. In this male population of > 35 years and <64 years were taken. Blood pressures, serum uric acid, random blood sugar and serum creatinine were recorded and measured. The American Heart Association (2017) guidelines were used to identify hypertensives. The correlation values are obtained to check the relationship between all three biochemical parameter and blood pressure as well as relative risk is calculated to see the association between them. The receiver operating curve values are obtained to see the predicting potentials of serum uric acid for blood pressure. The mean serum uric acid and random blood sugar for hypertensive cases were found to be quite higher than the mean serum uric acid and mean random blood sugar level of normotensive controls. The correlation was strongest between serum uric acid (0.83, p<0.001) and systolic blood pressure. The area under curve (0.938) values obtained by receiver operator characteristic curve analysis suggests that serum uric acid could be considered as a predictor for hypertension. This review paper aimed to draw the red line passing through almost 25 years of research on waterjet cutting carried out at WJ_Lab, the waterjet laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Politecnico di Milano. The purpose was not to just historically analyse the obtained scientific results by themselves but to make them even more useful by introducing the concept of the waterjet digital twin passing through the accuracy improvements due to microAWJ. This strategy effectively creates synergy among the topics and gives the opportunity to researchers in this field to both have an example of how research in industrial manufacturing processes can be guided by scientific and industrial needs, at least from the author's point of view, and to appreciate how it can be made useful for further improvements by introducing a powerful concept as the digital twin. Background: Plant viruses cause economic losses by reducing the quantity and quality of major crops. This issue is a growing concern due to the expansion of global trade and climate change. In addition, the emergence of new pathogen strains increases the difficulty of controlling viral diseases. Effective management strategies are therefore needed. The control strategy for viral diseases relies primarily on non-chemical and cultural practices, as no commercial viricides are currently available. Some compounds have been identified as effective against certain viruses, but their use in the field is limited due to issues such as concentration, toxicity, and efficacy. Therefore, it is imperative to discover novel antiviral agents that address the existing challenges associated with the identified antiviral candidate compounds. Results: In this study, we evaluated iodine-conjugated organic compounds mixed with sialic acid, whey, and blood meal for virus disease management against seven viruses that cause significant yield losses and economic damage to plants. The candidate compounds reduced virus accumulation and symptom development. Treatment with candidate compounds, A4 and A5, reduced viral RNA accumulation to about half that of those in the control group and showed reduced symptoms along with healthier growth. In addition, we performed transcriptome analysis of treatment with two viruses, which suggested that the mechanism of viral RNA replication inhibition might relate to plant defense systems based on phytohormone pathways. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that treatments with naturally derived materials, such as iodine, nitrogen, and sialic acid-conjugated organic substances, may directly or indirectly impact the host plant's resistance to various virus infections. Cognitive automation (CA) moves beyond rule-based business process automation to target cognitive knowledge and service work. This allows the automation of tasks and processes, for which automation seemed unimaginable a decade ago. To organizations, these CA use cases offer vast opportunities to gain a significant competitive advantage. However, CA imposes novel challenges on organizations' decisions regarding the automation potential of use cases, resulting in low adoption and high project failure rates. To counteract this, we draw on an action research study with a leading European manufacturing company to develop and test a model for assessing use cases' amenability to CA. The proposed model comprises four dimensions: cognition, data, relationship, and transparency requirements. The model proposes that a use case is less (more) amenable to CA if these requirements are high (low). To account for the model's industry-agnostic generalizability, we draw on an internal evaluation within the action research company and three additional external evaluations undertaken by independent project teams in three distinct industries. From a practice perspective, the model will help organizations make more informed decisions in selecting use cases for CA and planning their respective initiatives. From a research perspective, the identified determinants affecting use cases' amenability to CA will enhance our understanding of CA in particular and artificial intelligence as the driving force behind CA in general. BACKGROUND: Cells adherence provides specific information about physiology and pathology, the adhesion measurement between living cells and nanostructures can be measured by atomic force microscopy, but this detection technique is difficult to operate and costly. The adhesion height and effective contact area between cells and substrates are also the key factors affecting measurement value of the overall impedance. These factors change with structural parameters of the substrates, so the adhesion measurement between living cells and substrate can be indirectly reflected by the impedance value. OBJECTIVE: To establish a mapping relationship between the impedance measurement and the adhesion measurement of living cells. The possibility of dynamic measurement of adhesion is realized by this method, and the experimental process is simplified. METHODS: Laser interference technology was used to prepare nanoarray structures with different periods on the surface of silicon wafers for cells culture. Under the same experimental conditions, the impedance of living cells on the substrates of different cycle sizes were measured. The adhesion between cells and different substrates were analyzed by measuring impedance after the interaction between cells and substrate. RESULTS: The adhesion of living cells on the substrates of different sizes be analyzed, and the mapping relationship between the impedance and the adhesion measurement was established. The results showed that, the larger the impedance value between cells and substrate, the larger the effective contact area and the smaller the gap between them. CONCLUSION: The difference of adhesion height and effective adhesion area between living cells and substrates were obtained. Tourism contributes to national and local economies especially in the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts of Turkey including the study area, Fethiye-Göcek, Muğla in southwest Turkey. The study evaluates land use/land cover (LULC) changes driven by tourism development as a case considering the past (1995–2020) and future environmental impacts on the area. High-resolution remote sensing and some socio-economic data were employed to monitor the situation and causes of LULC changes using Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Land Surface Temperature (LST). The results show a decrease in the size of water surface, forest and maquis lands due to tourism development together with an increase in urban fabrics and bare lands due to urbanisation and forest fires. A significant positive correlation was detected between the urbanisation rate, population size and built-up area as well as air temperature and LST. Rapid and unplanned tourism development boosted investments for infrastructure and facilities and thus increased the demands for lands. Such lands were mostly gained by filling the sea or transforming agricultural and greenhouse areas, forest and maquis-covered lands. The unplanned development of tourism and urban areas caused serious hazards to the natural and cultural areas which threaten the sustainability of tourism. Calcium (Ca2+) regulates a multitude of cellular processes during fertilization and throughout adult life by acting as an intracellular messenger to control effector functions in excitable and non-excitable cells. Changes in intracellular Ca2+ levels are driven by the coordinated action of Ca2+ channels, pumps, and exchangers, and the resulting signals are shaped and decoded by Ca2+-binding proteins to drive rapid and long-term cellular processes ranging from neurotransmission and cardiac contraction to gene transcription and cell death. S-acylation, a lipid post-translational modification, is emerging as a critical regulator of several important Ca2+-handling proteins. S-acylation is a reversible and dynamic process involving the attachment of long-chain fatty acids (most commonly palmitate) to cysteine residues of target proteins by a family of 23 proteins acyltransferases (zDHHC, or PATs). S-acylation modifies the conformation of proteins and their interactions with membrane lipids, thereby impacting intra- and intermolecular interactions, protein stability, and subcellular localization. Disruptions of S-acylation can alter Ca2+ signalling and have been implicated in the development of pathologies such as heart disease, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer. Here, we review the recent literature on the S-acylation of Ca2+ transport proteins of organelles and of the plasma membrane and highlight the molecular basis and functional consequence of their S-acylation as well as the therapeutic potential of targeting this regulation for diseases caused by alterations in cellular Ca2+ fluxes. In cloud computing, the combinations of various computing units are globally separated, however, electronically connected. In recent years, the number of cloud users has adequately increased in the modern societies. In order to restrict the illegal access of the intruders, a strong user authentication is required for cloud computing environment. In this regard, in this paper, we came up with a computationally productive and safer anonymous authentication pattern for cloud users. Moreover, in our scheme, mutual authentication is performed in an anonymous way between the cloud user and the cloud server to strongly verify the legitimacy of each user before providing an access into the cloud. After the successful anonymous mutual authentication, the targeted cloud service provider and the cloud users make mutual communication between them. In case of any misbehaviouring after successful mutual authentication, an efficient revocation mechanism is proposed through which the trusted third party (TTP) can revoke the cloud users or service providers from the cloud environment. Even though there were many anonymous cloud computing authentication schemes, the previously proposed authentication schemes suffered from high computational cost during certificate verification. Legal boundaries are used for delineating the spatial extent of ownership property's spaces. In underground environments, these boundaries are defined by referencing physical objects, surveying measurements, or projections. However, there is a gap in connecting and managing these boundaries and underground legal spaces, due to a lack of data model. A 3D data model supporting underground land administration (ULA) should define and model these boundaries and the relationships between them and underground ownership spaces. Prominent 3D data models can be enriched to model underground legal boundaries. This research aims to propose a new taxonomy of underground legal boundaries and model them by extending CityGML, which is a widely used 3D data model in the geospatial science domain. We developed, implemented, and tested the model for different types of underground legal boundaries. The implemented prototype showcased the potential benefits of CityGML for managing underground legal boundaries in 3D. The proposed 3D underground model can be used to address current challenges associated with communicating and managing legal boundaries in underground environments. While this data model was specifically developed for Victoria, Australia, the proposed model and approach can be used and replicated in other jurisdictions by adjusting the data requirements for underground legal boundaries. Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) occasionally cause immune-related adverse events (AEs), which pose challenges to the continuation of treatment. Although ICIs are widely used in patients with cancer, studies reporting immune-mediated pancreatitis remain scarce., Objectives: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to address current knowledge gaps and provide clinical guidance for ICI-associated pancreatitis and lipase elevation., Patients and Methods: We searched PubMed/Medline, Embase, and Web of Science for phase 3 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating ICIs. The incidence of any-grade and grade 3-5 pancreatitis/lipase elevation was calculated. Then, we performed a random-effect model meta-analysis to pool the odds ratios (ORs) of these outcomes using RCTs evaluating the addition of an ICI to systemic therapy to assess the effect of ICIs on pancreatic AEs. A systematic review of the treatment of ICI-related pancreatitis was also conducted., Results: The incidence analysis included 81 articles (79 RCTs) comprising 36,871 patients. The incidence of treatment-related pancreatitis was 0.68% (any-grade) and 0.32% (grade 3-5). Meta-analysis revealed that the addition of ICI therapy significantly increased any-grade (OR 2.12, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.45-3.11, p < 0.001) and grade 3-5 pancreatitis (OR 1.76, 95% CI 1.01-3.08, p < 0.05) with low heterogeneity among ICI subtype subgroups (any-grade: I 2 = 0%, p = 0.99; grade 3-5: I 2 = 0%, p = 0.63). In analysis of treatment outcome among 146 patients from 53 articles, glucocorticoids were used in 80.6% (n = 108/134) and ICIs were discontinued in 76.5% (n = 101/132; permanent discontinuation: 62.5% [n = 35/56])., Conclusions: The overall rate of pancreatitis appears low, but the addition of ICI therapy significantly increased the incidence of pancreatitis.
