This article examines the impact of mainly being in different labour force statuses on women's happiness levels in Türkiye. Other predictors include educational level, household income and what makes one the happiest. Ordered logistic regression models are used by implementing a pseudo‐panel approach. Findings demonstrate that unemployed women are less likely to be happier relative to women in paid work. There is a statistically significant higher likelihood for housewives to report being happier compared to employed women throughout the years for the same cohort, which could be associated with the (socially structured) fulfilment brought about by the conformity to traditional gender roles in a context where these norms are widely adopted, and concurrently the circumstances diminishing working women's happiness at home and in the job market. The probability to report being very happy is the highest for highly educated housewives who have a high level of household income, yet it decreases over time for the cohort observed. Findings refer to the importance of enhancing the well‐being of women in paid work via supporting equal domestic division of labour patterns and improving their conditions in the labour market. This paper provides a comprehensive assessment of the total (market and non-market) gender-based production and consumption activities of Turkish men and women at different stages of their life-cycle. Turkey, one of the few emerging economies within the OECD, offers an interesting case-study as its female labour force participation rate is one of the lowest among OECD countries. Our results show that time spent by Turkish women on household activities is, on average, 30 h a week, basically three times as much as men. In fact, the women-to-men time use ratio for unpaid work is roughly twice as much as the OECD average. We estimate that the monetary value of women unpaid household production exceeds 29% of GDP, while the corresponding estimate for men is around 8%. Using the concept of life-cycle deficit, we also show that Turkish men are dependent on housework undertaken by women over their entire lifetime, which is an almost unique feature in comparison to the European and OECD countries. Finally, unlike other OECD countries that have introduced disincentives to early retirement, Turkish men continue to retire early but retain their acquired habits of not sharing the burden of household work. This paper uses labour force survey data to analyse the dynamics of job tenure in seven transition economies of Europe and a comparator country (Türkiye) for an average 13 years per country during the period 1994–2020. The country‐specific age‐period‐cohort decomposition demonstrates that the job tenure of the cohort of workers entering the labour market in the 2000s is 4–9 years shorter than that of workers who started working in the 1970s. This difference is at least twice as large as the difference in job tenure observed among workers from the same cohorts in European Union countries. These trends in tenure persist after accounting for changes in cohort composition, but they are significantly attenuated by controlling for differences in individual worker characteristics. These results suggest that the evolution of tenure in the transition economies of Europe may still be driven by the transition‐induced structural change processes in the labour market. Background and Purpose: This study was conducted in line with the request of the senior management of a hospital. The objective of the current research is to identify managerial problems through the relationship between health employees' perceptions of organizational justice, trust in the manager and the organization, and job satisfaction; develop a solution proposal over the relationships between these variables and motivation variables; and present a model proposal (BUY Model) as a result. Methods: The study sample is comprised of 673 employees. The study data were collected online using a questionnaire consisting of five scales. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistical methods, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. Results: The findings obtained from the study showed that the participants' perceptions of organizational justice, trust in the manager and the organization, job satisfaction and motivation were generally at a moderate level. The study also determined that trust in the manager and the organization had a partial mediation effect on the effect of organizational justice on job satisfaction and the variables of trust in the organization, organizational justice, and trust in the manager, respectively, and especially, the job satisfaction variable also affected motivation. Conclusion: The BUY model was developed to identify problems related to the management of healthcare human resources and solve these problems. Considering the importance of the concepts of job satisfaction and motivation in terms of employee performance, health service quality, and patient satisfaction, it is thought that the developed model will benefit managers of health institutions in increasing the job satisfaction and motivation levels of health employees. This research sought to explore the new career approaches of employed students. A comparative analysis was conducted with nonstudent employees to comprehensively grasp the novel career attitudes of working students. The neoliberal era has profoundly reshaped various disciplines, including economics, human resource management, and employment structures. Among these changes, career management has undergone a significant transformation. Conventional organisational careers have been supplanted by new approaches such as boundaryless, protean, subjective career success and kaleidoscope careers. These emerging career paradigms align with the emergence of novel forms of employment. Moreover, in an increasingly liberalised world, the rising costs of education and the growing prevalence of paid education are prompting students to enter the workforce while continuing their studies. The proliferation of companies offering part-time employment, such as private employment agencies, corresponds to an increase in students seeking part-time work. In other words, supply and demand within the part-time labour market intersect more robustly. Furthermore, working students gain valuable experience while employed, shaping the future supply of the labour market. Our research aims to assess the suitability of new career approaches for future workers and contributes to unravelling their complexities. The study also investigates whether employees are students and whether this affects their career approaches. To analyse this research, boundaryless career attitude and professional career attitude scales were utilised as assessment tools. These new career approaches represent innovation in careers. The research dataset comprised responses from 521 working students and 374 nonstudent employees, all of whom were actively employed in Istanbul, the most populous city in Turkey and home to many universities. The data analysis employed a quantitative research methodology using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and independent t tests. The findings revealed that working students exhibited significantly greater boundaryless career orientation, organisational mobility, boundaryless mindset, and value-driven career attitudes than did their nonstudent counterparts. The outcomes of this study will make a valuable contribution to the existing body of literature concerning employed students. Furthermore, the findings are anticipated to provide valuable insights into formulating and implementing human resources policies within organisations that engage in student employment practices. By shedding light on the experiences, challenges, and potential areas for improvement in this context, this research aims to inform and enhance the effectiveness of human resource strategies tailored toward working students. There isn't much academic research on the impacts of immigration on the labor market and job structure at the national level, although Türkiye is one of the nation's hosting the greatest populations of refugees. Because of the scarcity of information, a research gap exists. As a result, the study was carried out to determine the impact of international migration on agricultural employment and the changes in agricultural employment in Türkiye. Johansen Co-integration and Granger Causality analyses were performed on data from 1988 to 2018 to evaluate the change in the agricultural workforce in Türkiye and to demonstrate the temporal influence of immigration. According to the findings of the cointegration study, a rise in emigration has a negative impact on the agricultural areas and agricultural employment while having a good impact on agricultural GDP. Migration has long-term detrimental consequences. According to the causality study, there is a one-way link between migration and agricultural GDP. A panel data analysis was performed to establish the short-term detrimental impact of migration on agricultural employment, as well as how the structure of employment altered and developed during this process. The statistics provide temporal data from 2004 to 2020, and the individual's agricultural employment status, education, income, continuous employment, and extra work status are cross-sectional data. According to the Panel Logistic Regression Analysis results, while more educated and higher income individuals leave away from the agricultural sector, the desire to have a side job leads the individual to the agricultural sector. International migration has a detrimental impact on agricultural employment and its structure in this scenario. As a result, the sustainability of the working arrangements established by immigration regulations should be assured, and limits and constraints should be implemented, particularly in the agricultural sector. When agricultural employees transition to other industries, agricultural areas are being used in ways that were not planned. As a result, in the long run, the decline in output may have a negative impact on agricultural GDP. This condition has been the topic of several research and may serve as the foundation for new ones. This paper investigates the association between religion and female labor market outcomes using new micro-level data on two distinct Muslim denominations in Turkey: Sunni and Alevi Muslims. We find a positive and significant association between being an Alevi Muslim and female labor force participation and employment, whereas there are no significant differences in male labor market outcomes between the two denominations. We provide evidence that Alevi Muslims have more gender-equal views regarding the role of women in the labor market and consider themselves as more modern. Both Sunnis and Alevis consider themselves as believers in religion (Islam). However, Sunnis are more likely to abide by the rules of religion. We argue that differences in views on gender roles and self-identity regarding modernity between the two denominations drive the results on female labor market outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, the role and importance of agriculture-based investments in sustainable development were investigated. For this purpose, a situation analysis of these matters was conducted for Yozgat province, which is from the 1st Degree Priority Regions in development. In the study, interviews were conducted with managers or expert personnel of institutions and organizations related to the subject. Data obtained via the interview were the primary data of the study. Papers and books published related to the subject, and data obtained from the database of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TSI) were also the secondary data of this study. According to the research findings, it is seen that significant investments based on agriculture have been made in the province. Among these investments, there are sugar factory (2 units), Kabalı Integrated Orchard (Turkey's largest integrated orchard), geothermal greenhouses, flour production (12 units), milk and milk products (12 units), meat and meat products (11 units). and fruit and vegetable processing-packaging facilities (4 units). With investment depended on agriculture, there have been positive developments in per capita gross domestic product, employment, labor force participation rate and unemployment rate in the province. While in 2004, gross domestic product per capita was USD 3,272, employment rate was 31.6%, the participation rate to labor force was 36.2% and unemployment rate was 12.8%, in 2021 these were, respectively, USD 4,869, 48.5%, 55.1% and 12%. In Kabalı Integrated Orchard, which is one of the largest orchards in Turkey, in addition to orcharding, there have been animal breeding activities such as goose, sheep and beekeeping. The cherry orchard located in the integrated facility is the third-largest cherry orchard in Europe. The authors use the occurrence of a large and geographically varying inflow of more than 2.5 million Syrian migrants to Turkey between 2012 and 2015 to study the effect of migration on local economies. They do not find adverse employment or wage effects for native-born Turkish workers overall or for those without a high school degree. These results are robust to a range of strategies to construct reliable control groups. To explain the findings, the authors document the importance of three migration-induced demand channels: the complementarity between native and migrant labor, housing demand, and increased entrepreneurial activities. This paper investigates the gender wage gap at a regional level for NUTS 1 in Turkey and the factors contributing to this gap through an analysis of 2019 TURKSAT Household Labor Force Survey data and a Machado-Mata decomposition analysis. The paper reveals variations in the wage gap between men and women in different regions, and also in the contributing factors and finds further that the direction and dimensions of the gender wage gap change across the wage distribution. In some regions, among lower wage groups, the gender wage gap and one particular component of this gap discrimination favors women. In every region, however, women in the higher wage groups are subject to wage discrimination, and this is intensified in many regions towards the distribution's upper tail, creating a glass ceiling. In this study, we present a mathematical model of socio-economic process of labor force migration. We present our model in the terms of distributed order fractional partial differential equation. The proposed model involves time varying diffusion coefficient. To solve this model we propose an implicit discrete scheme by using graded meshes, and study numerically labor migration flow data from Turkey along with other countries throughout the period of 1966–2014. Using a micro dataset from labour force survey of Turkey and employing a multinomial logistic regression, this paper examines the determinants of mere overeducation, mere field of study mismatch and full-mismatch (who are both overeducated and field of study mismatched simultaneously). The target group consists of full-time wage-based employees who graduated from higher education and are aged 20–65. The determinants of mismatch are analysed under four variable groups which are labour market context, demography, field of study and job-specific characteristics. In line with the earlier empirical evidence, we find that the unfavourable economic conditions at the time of entry into the labour market might affect the behavioural pattern of individuals while searching for a matching job. Moreover, the sharp increase in university graduates increased further the fierce competition for the limited jobs available in the labour market, and resulted in a high likelihood of mismatch especially for the recent graduates. In sum, the estimation results yield that any mismatch category is responsive to those determinants where fully-mismatched employees are more responsive. This paper presents new evidence on the causal link between fertility and female labor supply by focusing on how informal employment interacts with maternal labor supply. We employ an IV strategy based on an unused data source for twin births in Turkey|a large middle-income country with extensive labor informality. We find that, following the first birth, female labor supply declines significantly and mothers who drop out of labor force are mostly the informally employed ones. This is contrary to the perception that informal jobs might be easier to sustain during motherhood as they are more flexible. Following further increases in family size, formally employed mothers start dropping out of labor force and their hours of work also decline. Higher fertility also leads to lower wages and lower job search intensity among mothers. We document substantial differences between maternal versus paternal labor supply in response to changes in family size. Unlike mothers, fathers increase their labor supply, which mostly comes from elevated informal employment|possibly due to a decline in their reservation wages. As a result, wages decline, hours of work increase, and job search activity shifts from formal to informal search methods for fathers. These results suggest that higher fertility might be associated with increased vulnerabilities and high labor income risks in countries with pervasive labor informality. We use a novel two-step empirical strategy to examine the relationship between social norms and the gender gap in labour force participation (LFP) across provinces of Turkey. In the first step, we identify the unexplained part of the gender gap in LFP that remains after accounting for differences in observed characteristics between women and men for each province by implementing a decomposition method. In the second step, we investigate the role of social norms in explaining cross-province variation in the unexplained part. The results reveal that more egalitarian gender role attitudes, smaller gender gap in tertiary education, lower fertility and consanguineous marriage rates, and lower level of religiosity significantly predict a smaller unexplained part of the gender gap in LFP favouring males. This study contributes to discussions on the politics of (non-)deportability by focusing on the case of Afghans, the largest migrant community without a right to protection in Turkey, itself the country hosting the most refugees. This article examines how the politics of (non-)deportation is shaped and practiced for Afghans and the types of everyday strategies they employ to deal with deportability. We first argue that the politics of deportation in Turkey is predominantly shaped by the needs of the informal labour market, which accounts for one-third of the total labour force. Our findings suggest that forced labour and the hypermobility of Afghans is both tolerated and hidden by the state, while Afghans' fear of deportability operates as a disciplining apparatus. Second, we argue that, when spectacles of deportation are performed, three crucial factors help Afghans avoid deportation, namely their qawm-based (ethnic or kinship) background, the involvement of Afghan associations, and street-level negotiations with the authorities. Objectives. This study aimed to demonstrate the effect of transformational and authentic leadership characteristics of healthcare managers on employees' innovative work behavior and the mediating role of innovation climate. Methods. The study was conducted in 19 hospitals in Turkey and 263 managers participated. The data were collected using the transformational leadership questionnaire, the authentic leadership questionnaire, the innovative climate assessment tool and the innovative work behavior scale. Path analysis was performed to demonstrate the relationship between the variables. Results. When transformational and authentic leadership were put into the model separately through innovation climate, transformational leadership had an effect of 0.39 units (0.22 units direct, 0.17 units indirect) and authentic leadership had a 0.44-unit effect (0.29 units direct, 0.15 units indirect) on innovative work behavior. When transformational and authentic leadership were put together in the model, the total (direct and indirect) effect of them increased to 0.52 units. In this case, the effect of authentic leadership characteristics of health managers on innovative work behavior of their followers (0.42 units) was greater than the effect of transformational leadership characteristics (0.10 units). Instruments of direct suppression and tight control are widely discussed parts of education politics in Turkey. They are often perceived as parts of a wider political struggle that is crucial to produce imaginaries and memories supporting the populist narrative of the ruling AKP. The important role of higher education in the reproduction of a professional labour force does, however, indicate that these instruments cannot be reduced to that function. Ideological objectives and economic interests are often in a contradictory relationship, hindering the AKP's ability to formulate a coherent strategy for higher education. Analysing the contradictions of the AKP's higher education policies offers significant insights into the limits of populist politics that are in conflict with aspects of the economic order. Introduction: The severity of occupational hand injuries ranges from mild to serious (such as loss of a limb). Here, we retrospectively studied patients presenting to an emergency department with hand injuries and the causes of such injuries. We recommend measures that will reduce occupational injuries and the associated effects on the workforce. Methods: Injuries diagnosed as occupational accidents from January 2017 to June 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 221 cases met this inclusion criterion. The following variables were analyzed: Age, sex, occupational injury type, time from trauma to emergency department admission, insurance status, whether or not consultation was requested, injury details, and operations performed. All data were statistically analyzed. Results: Patient age ranged from 18 to 65 years (average 31.4 years). Of all patients, 85% were male and 15% female. Most hand injuries were caused by sharp objects (81 cases), followed by angle grinders or saws (33), compression (66), and falls (24). Fifty-one cases were treated in the emergency department and subsequently discharged without any further consultation. However, 172 cases were referred onward, 151 to the plastic surgery department and 21 to the orthopedic department. The vast majority (143) of referred patients required further surgical interventions. Discussion and Conclusion: The incidence of limb loss can be reduced by increasing the number of finger re-attachment centers and improving existing centers. We believe that better education would decrease the incidence of workplace injuries in Türkiye. An increase in the number of qualified workers and more rigorous certification would ensure that workers are adequately informed of the difficulties and dangers of any particular job. Purpose: Female labour force participation (FLFP) is undeniably critical for both developing and developed countries. This study aims to investigate the impact of economic risk on FLFP, controlling economic well-being, fertility rate and education, considering the asymmetric relationship among the indicators in Turkey. Design/methodology/approach: Time series data covering years from 1988Q1 to 2019Q4 is deployed for the empirical analysis to identify the long-run asymmetric link. Empirical analysis of the study starts with the employment of the Augmented Dickey-Fuller unit root test with the breakpoint to test for the order of integration of time series and to capture the breakpoints. The Brock-Dechert-Scheibkman test is applied to determine if or not the econometric model is correctly identified. Nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) bounds test is used to examine the existence of an asymmetric link between FLFP and economic well-being. The empirical analysis follows the investigation of the determinants of FLFP through the employment of the NARDL model. Findings: The existence of long-run link among the time series is confirmed through the results obtained from the NARDL bounds test. Furthermore, long-run NARDL estimations confirm that (i) positive shocks in economic well-being increases FLFP; (ii) positive shock in education negatively impacts FLFP; (iii) FLFP is negatively affected by economic risk; and (iv) finally, increased fertility rate increases FLFP in Turkey. Originality/value: This paper is checked from turnitin for the plagiarism which is estimated to be less than 20%. Thousands of Turkish returnees (re)join the labour force of Turkey each year. Despite the gender pay gap, women return with new skills, which increase the chance of earning higher wages before the migration. Adopting a gender perspective, this paper investigates the effects of migration experience on labour income. The findings show that the positive effect of migration experience weakens the negative effect of gender on labour income, and marriage positively affects women's labour income. Until a few decades ago, ethical issues were defined in terms of fraudulent behavior and workplace working conditions, but the concept itself has now expanded. Child labor, considered cheap and easily manageable labor in the globalizing world, is one of the chronic problems of many developing and developed countries, including Turkey. Recent studies show that child's work areas are increasingly diversified, and child labor has become an important factor in the global cheap labor market. For whatever reason, it is a universal ethical issue that children work as young adults in many different sectors, from mining to textiles and agriculture to the automotive industry. In this context, the issue of child labor in Turkey has been discussed in the context of business ethics principles. In the study, three main factors were determined as demographic, educational life, and business life variables as the determinants of the reasons for the involvement of children in work life. The multinomial logit model was used to test the relationships between the variables. The research used data from 1128 children in employment obtained from the Child Labor Force Research Micro Data Set carried out by the Turkish Statistical Institute in 2019. According to the results of the research, it has been determined that the variables related to the education life (educational status of the child, family education status, apprenticeship education status) and the variables related to the business life (working sector, working time, income and family working status) affect the working reasons of children. As a result, in an environment of increasing cooperation and competition between countries with the effect of globalization, each country's reflection of a common definition of child labor in its own national legislation is one of the most important steps to be taken in preventing child labor. In addition, in underdeveloped and developing countries, eliminating poverty, expanding school attendance conditions, and raising awareness about the existence of children's rights as individuals will be important steps. It must be admitted that it will not be possible to end child labor in all its aspects without developing a society, and public and private sector management that acts with a sense of ethical responsibility. The aim of this study; To examine the theses and academic articles on ALMPs in Turkey and to discuss the contributions of the findings of these studies to the success of ALMPs in practice. This discussion is expected to shed light on future studies on active labor market policies. The descriptive survey model was used in the research and the research data were obtained by scanning the literature. In this context, Turkish theses and academic articles on the active labor force programs implemented by İŞKUR between the years 2004-2022 were accessed through the Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education, Google Scholar and DergiPark database. A total of 98 theses and articles that met the screening criteria were evaluated by content analysis method. As a result of the said evaluation, Istanbul, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Bursa, etc. that there is not enough work done in industrialized metropolitan cities, and even no research is done in some metropolitan cities; It has not been demonstrated how effective on-the-job training programs, programs for the benefit of society, and job and vocational counseling services, which are widely applied in Turkey, are effective in the employment and retention of unemployed individuals; active labor market policies are discussed in general rather than individually, so the net contributions of programs to employment cannot be determined independently of each other; the studies focused on the satisfaction with the programs and the problems experienced in implementation; however, there were not enough findings on basic issues such as creating and maintaining employment; It has been observed that no research has been conducted using the mixed method. Although there have been significant developments in the female labor force participation rate in Turkey in recent years, this rate is below the OECD average. There are various social and economic reasons behind this situation. This study, female labor force participation in the Türkiye TR22 Sub-region, investigates with a logit model, taking into account the variables of age, relationship to the head of the household, marital status, education level, and household size. The micro data set of the TURKSTAT Labor Force Survey of 2021 was used in the study. The findings obtained from the analysis show that female labor force participation in the region examined in Turkey is affected by the variables of age, education level, and marital status. The results highlight that female labor force participation can be increased through education, vocational training, and entrepreneurship. Regional Competitiveness Operational Programme (RCOP) is one of the policies which aims to increase the competitiveness of the poorest regions of Turkey by supporting enterprises and creating employment opportunities. This study aims to investigate whether RCOP has generated more employment opportunities in the "East-Central Anatolia Region" compared to its neighbor called "West-Central Anatolia Region". As an identification strategy, we implement Difference-in-Differences (DiD) methodology, and for the robustness check, we apply DiD with Propensity Score Matching (PSM). The entire analysis relies on data derived from the Household Labor Force Survey between 2004 and 2017. Our findings show that RCOP increased only the employment rate of young people aged between 15–24. We find no evidence of a positive effect for people over 24 years old. Governments in other countries which are also concerned about unemployment and vulnerability among youth could implement similar policies. Even though the programme has been effective in increasing the youth employment rate, the employment gap between men and women persists in favor of men in all age groups, including the youth. Objective: This study aimed to examine the factors affecting the loss of workforce, including the time to return to work and work-related situations in patients with traumatic hand injury who were taken to a hand rehabilitation program. Materials and Methods: The patients aged between 18-65 years with a history of traumatic hand injury in the last five years were analyzed retrospectively. Demographic and clinic data were taken from the medical records, and work-related problems were obtained by telephone calls. The severity of hand injury was assessed with Modified Hand Injury Severity Score (MHISS). Results: A total of 147 patients (129 males, 18 females; mean age 39.83±10.4 years) were included. The duration of return to work was correlated with total MHISS (rho=0.262 p=0.003) while not related to age, education level, gender, or injured hand's dominance (p>0.05). Duration of return to work after hand injury and total MHISS were lower in the patients who had job modifications (p<0.001, p=0.002). Job modification rate, salary reduction, and patient-reported hand dexterity loss were higher in patients with work-related injuries (p<0.05). In this study, the cost structure and profitability of tobacco production were examined in the sample of Uşak province. Esme and Ulubey districts in Uşak were the districts with the highest tobacco production. It was determined that 71 tobacco farmers, calculated according to the stratified sampling method, should be interviewed in the villages of these districts. Data were obtained through face-to-face interviews with farmers in the producer survey. Tobacco farming is an important income activity in the region where the family workforce is utilised. Labour force, land rent, and machinery rent were determined as the most significant cost factors in tobacco production. We found that large-scale enterprises are more profitably. In addition, it was determined that the organisation of tobacco farmers was insufficient. With the organisation, farmers will be able to provide the inputs used in tobacco production under more favourable conditions, and the development of marketing opportunities will make a positive contribution.
