In the twenty-first century, with the development of urbanization, large-scale mine wastelands in peri-urban areas have become increasingly closely related to the daily lives of urban and rural residents. Adopting a reuse method that meets the health needs of these residents, restoration, construction of mine wastelands in the suburbs of cities, and the formation of high-quality healthy environments and service supply are in line with the demands of healthy city construction and sustainable development. In addition, they have received increasing attention from all sectors of society. Based on the main criteria for constructing a healthy urban environment, this paper takes the comprehensive remediation and construction project of mine wastelands in the Taiyuan Xishan Ecological and Cultural Tourism Demonstration Area as a case study. It uses on-site surveys and an open-ended web-based questionnaire. It focuses on researching the perceived health needs of urban and rural residents in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, China concerning the main elements that determine health, such as the natural ecological environment, the construction of facilities and activities, and the local economic and industrial development. The results of 748 questionnaires that were completed by participants who effectively participated in the survey show that most participants preferred a comprehensive development model (86.6%) to reuse these areas. In addition, the specific needs of urban and rural residents for health safety, equity and quality, and healthy low-carbon industries should be considered. The differences in demand among groups of citizens due to different ages, living distances, levels of education, and occupations should be comprehensively considered. This paper demonstrates that a full understanding of the health needs of residents has great practical significance when improving the healthy environment and service supply level in mine wasteland restoration and construction and promoting the development of regional healthy city construction. Recently, the healthy environment and sustainable development of areas that host large-scale mine wastelands on the outskirts of cities have received increasing attention from all sectors of society. This paper suggests that during the reuse and construction of these areas, government management, development, and construction companies, planning and design organizations, and other departments that are involved in policy formulation and construction implementation should give full consideration to the perceived health needs of urban and rural residents in the host city, and to groups of residents of different ages, living distances, occupations, and educational levels, to form a high-quality and equitable health environment and services in the area. The scarcity of public resources and environmental pollution caused by rapid urbanization highlight the practical significance of parks in ensuring the sustainable development of a city. Therefore, the social equity of parks warrants further study. This paper proposes a fine-grained comprehensive evaluation framework that combines geographic accessibility models, geo-statistical analysis, and machine learning algorithms to explore social inequity in Taiyuan, China. In this framework, gini coefficient and lorentz curve express spatial equality, accessibility shows spatial equity, and ridge regression model handles the interdependence of variables with different dimensions to quantify the relative effects of local participants on changes in park accessibility. On this basis, the imbalance between vulnerable groups and park supply is analyzed to further understand the core concept of social equity. Results highlight serious spatial inequality in all three types of parks allocation of six urban areas, especially in community parks. The actual access level of people to parks is also stratified by their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, revealing the social inequity in access to parks. Park distribution is indeed not conducive to some social vulnerable groups, whose contradiction between supply and demand is highly prominent in urban – rural junctions and new urban areas. This paper also confirms the unfair layout of public facilities can be observed in second-tier cities of China by highlighting the social inequity of parks in Taiyuan. In this paper, with the method of epidemic dynamics, we assess the spread and prevalence of COVID-19 after the policy adjustment of prevention and control measure in December 2022 in Taiyuan City in China, and estimate the excess population deaths caused by COVID-19. Based on the transmission mechanism of COVID-19 among individuals, a dynamic model with heterogeneous contacts is established to describe the change of control measures and the population's social behavior in Taiyuan city. The model is verified and simulated by basing on reported case data from November 8th to December 5th, 2022 in Taiyuan city and the statistical data of the questionnaire survey from December 1st to 23rd, 2022 in Neijiang city. Combining with reported numbers of permanent residents and deaths from 2017 to 2021 in Taiyuan city, we apply the dynamic model to estimate theoretical population of 2022 under the assumption that there is no effect of COVID-19. In addition, we carry out sensitivity analysis to determine the propagation character of the Omicron strain and the effect of the control measures. As a result of the study, it is concluded that after adjusting the epidemic policy on December 6th, 2022, three peaks of infection in Taiyuan are estimated to be from December 22nd to 31st, 2022, from May 10th to June 1st, 2023, and from September 5th to October 13th, 2023, and the corresponding daily peaks of new cases can reach 400 000, 44 000 and 22 000, respectively. By the end of 2022, excess deaths can range from 887 to 4887, and excess mortality rate can range from 3.06% to 14.82%. The threshold of the infectivity of the COVID-19 variant is estimated 0.0353, that is if the strain infectivity is above it, the epidemic cannot be control with the previous normalization measures. A soundscape carries the culture and memories of historical and cultural areas, capable of evoking people's emotions towards a place. This paper aims to explore the influence of the soundscape on the sense of place in historical and cultural areas using a mixed-method approach. Conducting on-site measurements, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews in four areas in Taiyuan, China, this research utilized structural equation modeling and grounded theory for analysis. Research findings: Firstly, the soundwalk method identified 11 categories of soundscapes and the main sources of noise in residential areas were traffic sounds and commercial sounds. Secondly, residents showed the highest preference for natural sounds and traditional activity sounds. Preferences for activities' sounds and traditional sounds, along with the perceived frequency of daily life sounds, entertainment activities' sounds, and natural sounds were positively associated with the sense of place, while the perceived frequency of commercial sounds, traffic sounds, and pet sounds was negatively associated. Lastly, from the grounded theory, this research showed that traditional sounds effectively enhanced residents' sense of place by triggering memories, embodying culture, and connecting emotions. Daily life sounds linked residents' lives and prompted visions, while local dialects evoked emotion and culture. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to urban transportation. During the pandemic, public transportation, as an integral part of urban transportation, must ensure the safety of passengers, particularly low-mobility individuals (LMIs): older people, individuals with disabilities, and low-income individuals who prefer getting around by it. Based on passengers' travel behavior and psychological characteristics, this paper analyzes the public transportation travel of LMIs before and during the pandemic using a hybrid survey method that combines a face-to-face survey and a supplementary telephone interview. The results show that LMIs differ from the general public in public transportation travel characteristics, and the three subgroups also differ from each other. Accordingly, the conditions in the context of the pandemic should be fully considered to meet LMIs' demand for public transportation and ensure their safety when relevant policies are formulated. Large-span spatial lattice structures generally have characteristics such as incomplete modal information, high modal density, and high degrees of freedom. To address the problem of misjudgment in the damage detection of large-span spatial structures caused by these characteristics, this paper proposed a damage identification method based on time series models. Firstly, the order of the autoregressive moving average (ARMA) model was selected based on the Akaike information criterion (AIC). Then, the long autoregressive method was used to estimate the parameters of the ARMA model and extract the residual sequence of the autocorrelation part of the model. Furthermore, principal component analysis (PCA) was introduced to reduce the dimensionality of the model while retaining the characteristic values. Finally, the Mahalanobis distance (MD) was used to construct the damage sensitive feature (DSF). The dome of Taiyuan Botanical Garden in China is one of the largest non-triangular timber lattice shells worldwide. Relying on the structural health monitoring (SHM) project of this structure, this paper verified the effectiveness of the damage identification model through numerical simulation and determined the damage degree of the dome structure through SHM measurement data. The results demonstrated that the proposed damage identification method can effectively identify the damage of large-span timber lattice structures, locate the damage position, and estimate the degree of damage. Historical sites are incomplete relics left by human activities and are also valuable resources for human society, with most of them buried deep underground. Because the protection of original historical sites is difficult, very few sites choose this method. Many funerary objects that have been in historical sites are scattered in museums, losing their original context and complicating their utilization. Thus, using digital technology to protect and utilize historical sites and to explore their outstanding value from historical, aesthetic, and anthropological perspectives is a foremost concern. Therefore, this study aims to develop a comprehensive method for the protection and utilization of historical sites, that is, digital protection and utilization based on a digital twin. We constructed a historical site digital twin model using qualitative and vertical methods, including a physical entity, virtual entity, twin data center, digital twin service, and connection. We also established a technical framework of data acquisition and processing, digital protection, and digital utilization, forming a layered management and application of digital resources. In digital protection, information in the real world and the virtual world are connected to monitor risks, collect data, create simulations, and propose protection strategies, quickly and accurately. In digital utilization, the knowledge graph is constructed to associate seemingly unrelated information, explore potential knowledge, and improve information sharing. In addition, the method is validated by means of case studies of historical sites in China. In this paper, the historical sites of the Northern Qi Dynasty in Taiyuan, Shanxi, especially the Xuxianxiu Tomb and Lourui Tomb, are discussed in detail. Sandstone from the Longshan Grottoes in Taiyuan, China, was the research object of this paper. The sandstone samples were soaked in distilled water, Na2SO4 solution, and NaCl solution and subjected to freeze–thaw testing. Sandstone specimens were treated with 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 freeze–thaw cycles. The mass ratio, P-wave velocity, surface hardness, uniaxial compressive strength, and other physical-mechanical features of rock samples were measured after different numbers of cycles. The results of mercury injection, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction were combined to explore the damage mechanisms and characteristics of the rock samples under the combined action of chemicals and freeze–thaw cycles. It was found that the damage degree of sandstone increased logarithmically with the number of cycles, with Na2SO4 solution causing the most damage. Damage variables D of the samples soaked in distilled water, Na2SO4 solution, and NaCl solution after 30 freeze–thaw cycles were 3.89%, 6.51%, and 4.74%, respectively. The difference in damage between the solutions is caused by the combination of frost heave, dissolution, and salt crystallization, and the damage process generally occurs from the inside and the outside and is manifested as an increase in the number of macropores and the appearance of new pores. Freezing–thawing and salt action are important causes of the powdering and detachment of sandstone in the Longshan Grottoes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Taiyuan Xishan Ecological Restoration Zone is located in the west of Taiyuan City and belongs to the Xishan Coalfield. Due to the resource development activity of coal mining, which is caused by coal gangue accumulation, surface vegetation degradation, bare surfaces, and other phenomena, it is most common in this area. These have an impact on the surface ecology; however, after ecological restoration, the surface ecology has been greatly improved. There are many extraction models of vegetation coverage based on pixel dichotomology combined with multispectral vegetation index, but we believe that the combination of visible light vegetation index to construct models is relatively unexplored. The main problem of how to use the RGB image data in order to quickly and accurately extract vegetation coverage information is still under investigation and needs researchers' attention. In this paper, through selecting the vegetation coverage as the evaluation index of ecological restoration effect, a new RGB vegetation coverage CIVE calculation model is innovatively proposed to solve the above problem, and on the basis of this model, the vegetation cover change analysis is carried out in the Xishan ecological restoration area of Taiyuan. According to the analysis of vegetation coverage change, relevant paper data, and the characteristics of multiple historical remote sensing images, the ecological restoration area of Taiyuan Xishan is divided into six typical areas. Through empirical evaluation, we summarize and analyze these six typical areas, which can provide typical demonstration roles for other ecological restoration areas. Our findings suggest that the proposed CIVE model realizes the extraction of vegetation cover information and long-term series dynamic monitoring of vegetation coverage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Optimal allocation of water resources can solve the problems of regional water resources shortage and unreasonable utilization, and in recent years optimization algorithms have become an important tool for obtaining the results of optimal allocation of water resources. To effectively alleviate the problems of slow convergence, local optimization and prematureness in existing optimal allocation algorithms, this paper introduces a new metaheuristic algorithm: the Cheetah Optimizer (CO), with the advantages of fast convergence, robustness, and superiority-seeking ability, which is applied to the optimal allocation of water resources. Taking Taiyuan as the study area, this paper establishes a water resource optimization model with the objectives of economic, social, and ecological benefits, and CO is used to solve the model, then compares and analyzes the results with the Genetic Algorithm (GA). The results show that the total pollutant discharge of CO is within the control target of the planning year (2030), the regional satisfaction reaches 0.98, which can meet the demand for basic and development water; compared with the current year (2020), the proportion of domestic water consumption decreases by 22.58%, and the proportion of water consumption in production increases by 10.53%, 25.81% and 12.5%, respectively. The water supply ratio of surface water and groundwater is reduced by 21.70% and 11.14%, respectively, the water supply ratio of reuse water and yellow diversion water is increased by 5.43% and 27.40%. It accords with the idea of water resources allocation in Taiyuan, and verifies the effectiveness of CO. Compared with GA, CO has increased regional satisfaction, integrated water value and water distribution equity by 7.10%, 3.57% and 56.52%, respectively, reduced pollutant emissions and water shortage by 3.11% and 3.85%, at the same time, it has better coordination, which verifies the superiority of the CO. The results show that CO is reasonable and feasible to solve the optimal allocation model of water resources, which can provide a new method for solving the optimal allocation model of water resources. Industrialization has brought serious pollution problems to the eco-environment and severely weakened the ecosystem services in industry-concentrated areas. There are few studies choosing a heavy industrial city to evaluate the impacts of industrial pollution on ecosystem services and examine the relationships between industrial pollution and ecosystem services. This paper selected Taiyuan, an important energy resources and heavy chemical industry base in China, as a case study to quantitatively analyze the relationships between industrial pollution and ecosystem service value (ESV). The results showed that the pollution level of industrial solid waste decreased first and then increased, the pollution level of industrial wastewater presented a downward-upward-downward trend, whereas the pollution level of industrial waste gas continued to decrease during the study period. The total ESV increased from 8.56 billion Yuan in 2005 to 10.49 billion Yuan in 2017. Climate regulation and hydrology adjustment contributed the most value to the total ESV (more than 60%). The ESV of water supply was negative and decreased the most value (−177.52 million yuan). The fitting regression indicated that the ESV and the pollution levels of industrial wastewater, industrial waste gas and industrial solid waste exhibited significant negative correlations, which could be expressed as quadratic functions. It is of importance to enhance the urban areas' capacity for population aggregation in underdeveloped regions, aiming to rectify the imbalanced and insufficient pattern of economic development in China. Taking the Taiyuan Metropolitan Area (TMA) in central China as a case study, this paper examines the evolutionary process and characteristics of population agglomeration from 2000 to 2020, and identifies factors associated with agglomeration and their spatial effects. The findings indicated that: 1) against the background of sustained population shrinkage in the provincial area, the TMA showed a demographic trend of steady increase, albeit with a decelerated growth rate. In the metropolitan area, urban population size continued to grow rapidly, whereas the rural areas endured sustained losses. Disparities in city size continued to widen, and the polarization of concentrated population in the core cities kept increasing. 2) Agglomerations in both secondary and service industries had significant positive effects on local population agglomeration, with the former effect being stronger. Regional economic development, government fiscal expenditure, and financial advancement all contributed to facilitating local population clustering. From a spatial spillover perspective, service agglomeration and financial development promoted population agglomeration in surrounding areas. Conversely, fiscal expenditure inhibited such agglomeration. As for industrial agglomeration and regional economic development, their spatial spillover effects were non-significant. The results obtained reveal several policy implications aimed at enhancing the population agglomeration capacity of the metropolitan area in underdeveloped regions during the new era. Prediction of air pollutant concentrations is currently one of the most important methods for the prevention and control of urban air pollution in most countries, and accurate and timely prediction of pollutant concentrations is of great significance for urban pollution control. Using Taiyuan, China, as a case study, this study examines how to predict hourly air pollutant concentrations over longer periods of time while ensuring their accuracy. In this paper, an air pollutant concentration prediction method based on improved inverse distance interpolation and Informer model (EIDW-Informer), and hour-by-hour prediction of PM2.5, NO2, and O3 concentrations in Taiyuan, China is carried out. In this study, historical data from seven environmental monitoring stations in Taiyuan City were used to build multidimensional environmental vectors and calculate the similarity between sample points. Then, the missing values in the dataset were interpolated according to the similarity and distance weights, and the long series prediction was performed by Informer. The experimental results show that the EIDW-Informer method has advantages in hour-by-hour prediction compared to LSTM, CNN-LSTM, and Attention-LSTM models, which improves by 20%, 27%, and 43% on 1 h, 8 h, and 72 h time scales, respectively. The ancient lacquer films excavated from Dongshan Han tomb M6 of the Western Han Dynasty in Taiyuan City, Shanxi, China, were found sensitive to pH variation. This paper aims to demonstrate the pH-dependent warping behaviors of the ancient lacquer film and discuss their mechanism. The samples were analyzed by surface analytical techniques including attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry. The results suggest that the outer layer of the lacquer film is more oxidized than the inner layer and contains more carboxylates, with calcium ions and possibly ammonium cations as counter ions. The carboxylates are speculated to be formed by oxidative cleavages in the urushiol side chains and hydrolysis of glycerides of drying oils. The shrinkage and swelling of the lacquer film can be regulated by the type of cations (H+, Ca2+, Na+) of carboxylates through hydrogen bonds, coordination bonds and static forces. Due to the higher content of carboxylates in the outer part, it shrinks more at low pH causing warping outward and swells more at high pH causing warping inward. This paper may provide an important reference for pH control and help resolve the warping problem during conservation or restoration of ancient lacquerware. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the great breakthrough in natural gas exploration of Paleozoic Taiyuan formation in Longdong exploratory area in the southwestern part of Ordos Basin, it is urgent to solve the petrological nomenclature of sedimentary bauxite, so as to further study the pore formation mechanism, distribution law, and controlling factors of bauxite reservoirs. In this paper, X-ray diffraction, polarizing microscope, scanning electron microscope, and other methods are used to analyze the mineral composition and structure of bauxite rocks in the study area and give appropriate names. The results show that the sedimentary sequence of bauxite in the study area can be divided into five sections: A, B, C, D, and E. The main mineral components are diaspore (C section content can be more than 90%), illite, kaolinite, and chlorite; accessory mineral include anatase and pyrite; trace components include quartz, feldspar, rutile, hematite, and rock salt; and some of the pores are filled with calcite, siderite, and (iron) dolomite. The rock structure is mainly bedding and massive structure, and some of them have geopetal structure. The texture mainly consists of granular texture, grain (powder crystal) texture, gel texture, and algal bonding texture. Considering the special lithology of section A~C and the lack of existing nomenclature method, based on mineral composition and sedimentary fabric, a triangulation classification nomenclature method is established, which adopts structure+texture as secondary name and the main mineral components diaspore-mud-pyrite of the three end-member mineral components as primary name. It can not only highlight the mineral assemblage characteristics of sedimentary sequence of bauxite but also reflect the lithologic characteristics of reservoir development section and the influencing factors of reservoir formation, effectively reflecting the petrological characteristics of bauxite reservoir. Among them, the diaspore rocks with granular, bean-oolitic, and grain texture are the main lithologies forming the natural gas reservoir space of Taiyuan formation in Longdong area. The naming method is feasible and reliable for sedimentary bauxite rocks, which lays a good foundation for the study of natural gas reservoir, pore formation mechanism, and distribution law in Longdong area, southwest of the basin. Under accelerated urbanisation and rapid social and economic development, environmental pollution has become an important content of the construction industry. Therefore, the environmental benefit analysis of green buildings is of great significance to the effective use of energy and resources and to achieve the goal of protecting resources, reducing pollution and improving the ecological environment. The results show that the measured results of incremental environmental costs of the office building in Taiyuan City in land saving, energy saving, water saving, material saving, indoor environmental quality and operation management are decreased by 13.56 %, 11.02 %, 25.17 %, 14.43 %, and 15.25 %, respectively; incremental environmental benefits in land saving, energy saving, water saving, material saving, indoor environmental quality and operation management are increased by 23.15 %, 10.37 %, 19.30 %, 18.25 %, and 22.53 %, respectively. Those suggest that the BIM technology applied to the complete life cycle cost analysis of green buildings can test, measure and guide all the steps of building design, construction and maintenance and largely meet the criteria of resource-saving and energy-saving. With the increase in mining depth, potential water inrush in the limestone-fractured aquifers of Taiyuan formation and Ordovician formation becomes seriously threatened to the mining process. Grouting reinforcement, as a common prevention method, has been widely used in mine water inrush prevention. In this paper, a model of "seepage resistance" is proposed for the slurry diffusion in a single fracture and the theoretical expression on the seepage resistance corresponding to slurry with different flow patterns is conducted. The total seepage resistance model of water-displacing diffusion by slurry in series and parallel fractures is established. With the Lagrange interfacial tracing method, the control equations of water-displacing diffusion by slurry in fracture networks are derived, which get mutually validated with the theoretical results. Geological conditions or human activities will affect the hydrochemical characteristics and formation mechanism of mine groundwater to varying degrees. The northern part of the Beiyi mining area of Gubei Coal Mine is taken as the research area in this study. Based on the data of 52 groups of limestone water (Taihui water) samples in the primary environment, in the mining stage and after grouting, the spatial and temporal variation trend of the chemical characteristics of Taihui water was studied by means of constant index mathematical statistics, a Piper diagram, total ionic salinity, correlation analysis, the ion ratio method and the saturation index. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of special geological structures, mining activities and grouting treatment on the formation process of the chemical characteristics of Taihui water, and to provide a basis for the identification of water inrush sources and the resource utilization of deep mine water in this area. The results show that in the three stages, the order of cation concentration is Na+ + K+ > Ca2+ > Mg2+, and the order of anion concentration is changed from Cl− > SO42− > HCO3− to Cl− > HCO3− > SO42−. The hydrochemical type is the most abundant in the mining stage, and tends to be unified after grouting. The dissolution of carbonate minerals, gypsum, rock salt and silicate minerals; cation exchange; pyrite oxidation; and the mixing of grouting precipitation liquid mainly occur in the limestone water. These effects are enhanced or weakened due to the influence of pumping and drainage and grouting precipitation liquid. The results of this study may be beneficial to the sustainable utilization of deep groundwater resources in other similar mines, and promote the establishment of data management and identification mechanisms of water inrush sources in deep coal seams. Derailment is one of the main hazards during train passes through railway turnouts (RTs) in classification yards. The complexity of the train-turnout system (TTS) and unfavorable operating conditions frequently cause freight wagons to derail at RTs. Secondary damages such as hazardous material spillage and train collisions can result in loss of life and property. Therefore, the primary goal is to assess the derailment risk and identify the root causes when trains pass through RTs in classification yards. To address this problem, this paper proposes a failure probability assessment approach that integrates intuitionistic fuzzy fault tree analysis (IFFTA) and Noisy or gate Bayesian network (NGBN) for quantifying the derailment risk at RTs. This method can handle the fact that the available information on the components of the TTS is imprecise, incomplete, and vague. The proposed methodology was tested through data analysis at Taiyuan North classification yard in China. The results demonstrate that the method can efficiently evaluate the derailment risk and identify key risk factors. To reduce the derailment risk at RTs and prevent secondary damage and injuries, measures such as optimizing turnout alignment, controlling impact between wagons, lubricating the rails, and regularly inspecting the turnout geometries can be implemented. By developing a risk-based model, this study connects theory with practice and provides insights that can help railway authorities better understand the impact of poor TTS conditions on train safety in classification yards. The high proportion and volatility of renewable energy pose a significant challenge to efficient collaboration between photovoltaic/thermal and wind power in multi-energy systems. Therefore, this paper proposes a Regional Multi-Energy System (RMES) based on Medium-High Temperature Solar Thermal (MHTST) technology. The novelty of the solution integrates dispatchable photovoltaic and photothermal conversion pathways, facilitating flexible and controllable utilization of solar energy via installed Thermal Energy Storage (TES). A multi-objective optimization model is developed to ensure the optimal operation of the proposed system under typical seasonal scenarios. The method that combines Branch-and-Reduce with Multi-Learning-Task is used to handle the formulated Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) and swiftly identify optimal Pareto solutions. Case studies are performed over the improved united communities of the Test Region for Energy Transition and Comprehensive Reform in Taiyuan, China. Compared with the conventional photovoltaic technology, the simulation results show that the proposed solution has superior performance in both winter-heating and summer-cooling operations across 24-hour scheduling periods: operating costs reduced by 12.5% and 18.7%, carbon emissions decreased by 7.4% and 21.4%, with local solar power accommodation increased by 263.89kW and 487.47kW, respectively. • A novel regional multi-energy system integrating medium-high temperature solar thermal is proposed. • The model solution combined branch-and-reduce with multi-learning-task is proposed. • The proposed strategy offers optimal energy schedules while reflecting renewable electricity trading. • System performances of photovoltaic and medium-high temperature solar thermal systems are compared. However, the study focusing on satisfaction differences in bus traveling before and after COVID-19 is far under-researched, this paper therefore explored satisfaction differences among low-income individuals under socioeconomic attributes, traveling attributes, and psychological attributes by using the data consist of interviews addressed to 930 individuals in Taiyuan, China. Furthermore, the relationship between satisfaction levels and modes of traveling alone and traveling with companions by bus has also been deeply analyzed to reduce single-person driving problem. Seven pieces of gold foils for surface decoration of the lacquerware were excavated in the late Western Han Dynasty tomb in the area of the Jin Yang (晋阳) Ancient City site in Taiyuan (太原), Shanxi (山西), China. These gold foils portray images of the carriage, the leopard, the tigers, the ox, and the dancer with fluttering sleeves, etc., with black lines outlining the contours and red paint depicting vivid patterns. The study used Stereo Microscopes, Metallurgical Microscopy, Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy coupled with Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (ESEM-EDS), and Laser Raman Spectroscopy (LRS) to analyse the thickness of the gold foils, the alloy composition, the composition of the paint and other surface attachments, and investigate the manufacturing process. As the results show, the thickness of the gold foils is about 26 μm. The composition is a gold-silver alloy with about 96% Au/(Au + Ag) (surface) and 98% Au/(Au + Ag) (cross-section). The metallurgical observation shows that the gold foils underwent heating and forging. The black lines on the front side are Chinese ink lines, with cracking and peeling phenomenon, and parallel polishing lines can be seen at the peeling places, while no polishing lines are observed on the back side. Some red paint made of cinnabar is above the black lines, and the binder is organic. Some lacquer residues are found on the back. According to the results of the study, the manufacturing process of the gold foils applied on the lacquerware is as follows: the gold foils are obtained by heating and forging, the front sides of the gold foils are polished, the shapes are carved out, and the gold foils are pasted on the lacquerware when the lacquerware's surface is not yet dry. The gold foils are painted with black Chinese ink and red cinnabar pigment. The study's results offer important references for understanding the manufacturing craft of the gold foils applied on the lacquerware in the late Western Han Dynasty of China and guide the conservation of the lacquerware decorated with painted gold foils. Photovoltaic–thermal (PVT) technology is gaining popularity due to the diminishing availability of traditional fossil fuels and escalating environmental concerns. Enhancing the heat dissipation of PVT to improve its electrical and thermal performance remains a significant task. This study simulates the thermodynamic and heat transfer characteristics in multiple novel PVT structures by examining the impact of various factors such as collector materials, radiation intensity, mass flow rate, and inlet temperature. This work also identifies the optimal mass flow rate for locations with different solar radiation. The numerical results indicate that the electrical efficiency of a designed cylindrical structure has increased by 1.73% while the thermal efficiency has increased by 8.29%. Aluminum is identified as the most cost-effective material for the collector. The optimal mass flow rates in selected locations of Xining, Taiyuan, and Turpan are 0.36 kg/s, 0.35 kg/s, and 0.30 kg/s, respectively. This study performed a comparative analysis of the sensory and microbial profiles of light‐flavor Bijou (LFD) from Taiyuan (Shanxi Province) and Suizhou (Hubei Province) in China. The results of the electronic nose showed that the aromatic substances of the LFD from Taiyuan (TLFD) were significantly higher (p <.05), while alcohol and aldehyde substances were significantly lower (p <.05) compared with the LFD from Suizhou (SLFD). The average response values of sensors W1C (sensitive to aromatic hydrocarbons), W3C (sensitive to amine and aromatic components), W5C (sensitive to olefins, aromatics, and polar molecules), and W2S (sensitive to alcohol and aldehyde compounds) to TLFD were 0.26, 0.33, 0.34, and 7.72, whereas the response values to SLFD were 0.25, 0.32, 0.33, and 8.04, respectively. The electronic tongue results showed that the aftertaste A (bitter aftertaste) and aftertaste B (astringent aftertaste) of the TLFD were significantly higher (p <.05) and umami was significantly lower (p <.05) as compared to the SLFD. The relative intensities of the aftertaste A, aftertaste B, and umami indicators of TLFD were 0.10, −0.008, and −0.22, respectively, while those of SLFD were −0.23, −0.36, and 0.835, respectively. MiSeq high‐throughput sequencing results showed that TLFD exhibited lower fungal richness and diversity compared to SLFD. The dominant bacterial genera were mainly Bacillus (58.12%), Kroppenstedtia (10.11%), and Weissella (6.26%), and the dominant fungal genera were Saccharomycopsis (67.53%), Rasamsonia (9.90%), and Thermoascus (7.10%). Streptomyces and Staphylococcus were identified as the key characteristic microorganisms in TLFD, while Kroppenstedtia, Rasamsonia, and Thermoascus were the key characteristic microorganisms in SLFD. Correlation analysis indicated a stronger correlation between microorganisms and sensory characteristics in SLFD samples. This study provides valuable insights into the sensory and microbiological characteristics of LFD from different regions and offers a new perspective for understanding the production of differently flavored light‐flavor Baijiu. As environmental and human changes combine, water shortage and ecological fragility are becoming increasingly serious issues in the basin. The national "14th Five-Year Plan" proposes to build resilient basins to enhance disaster resilience. On the basis of clarifying the multi-link characteristics of water resources system resilience under the influence of meteorology-hydrology-ecology-society-economy, this paper reveals the interrelationship and chain reaction among the factors affecting the resilience of water resources system by clarifying the multi-link characteristics of water resources system resilience. Based on the interconnections among meteorology-hydrology-engineering-economic society-ecology in regional water resources systems, this study constructs a resilience evaluation index for the water resources system. The index considers different objectives, dimensions, and scales to provide a comprehensive assessment of the system's resilience. Based on the multi-dimensional relationship of the evaluation index system, the TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method based on entropy weight method is employed to depict the resilience level of the water resources system at varying spatial and temporal scales. By focusing on Shanxi Province as the research subject, a multi-link evaluation framework for assessing the resilience of the water resources system is established, and a quantitative approach to evaluate its resilience is investigated. The results show that the level of water resources resilience in Shanxi Province has improved from 2017 to 2021, and there are certain spatial and temporal differences. In 2021, only Lvliang City and Yangquan City have low resilience level, and the resilience level of other cities has been improved. Among them, Taiyuan City has the highest resilience level of 0.56, which belongs to the high resilience level. The research results can improve the cognitive level of multi-link evolution mechanism of resilience to a certain extent, and provide scientific basis for multi-dimensional targeted regulation of water resources system resilience. Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is globally recognized for its adverse implications on human health. Yet, remain limited the individual contribution of particular PM2.5 components to its toxicity, especially considering regional disparities. Moreover, prevention solutions for PM2.5-associated health effects are scarce. In the present study, we comprehensively characterized and compared the primary PM2.5 constituents and their altered metabolites from two locations: Taiyuan and Guangzhou. Analysis of year-long PM2.5 samples revealed 84 major components, encompassing organic carbon, elemental carbon, ions, metals, and organic chemicals. PM2.5 from Taiyuan exhibited higher contamination, associated health risks, dithiothreitol activity, and cytotoxicities than Guangzhou's counterpart. Applying metabolomics, BEAS-2B lung cells exposed to PM2.5 from both cities were screened for significant alterations. A correlation analysis revealed the metabolites altered by PM2.5 and the critical toxic PM2.5 components in both regions. Among the PM2.5-down-regulated metabolites, phosphocholine emerged as a promising intervention for PM2.5 cytotoxicities. Its supplementation effectively attenuated PM2.5-induced energy metabolism disorder and cell death via activating fatty acid oxidation and inhibiting Phospho1 expression. The highlighted toxic chemicals displayed combined toxicities, potentially counteracted by phosphocholine. Our study offered a promising functional metabolite to alleviate PM2.5-induced cellular disorder and provided insights into the geo-based variability in toxic PM2.5 components. The hydrogeological conditions of Huainan Coalfield are complex. The Taiyuan formation limestone water (Taihui water) in this area is a direct threat to the water source of the 1# coal mining floor. In order to prevent and control water disasters, Gubei Coal Mine adopted ground high-pressure grouting with fly ash cement to block the hydraulic connection between the Taiyuan formation limestone aquifer and the Ordovician limestone aquifer. However, the injected slurry will destroy the original hydrochemical balance of Taihui water and change its hydrochemical characteristics. Taking the influence area of the 2# karst collapse column in the Beiyi 1# coal mining area of Gubei Coal Mine as an example, a total of 25 Taihui water samples were collected. The hydrochemical characteristics and evolution law of Taihui water before and after grouting are studied via the multivariate statistical method. The research methods include constant index statistics, Piper diagram, correlation analysis, ion combination ratio, and saturation index analysis. The results show that after grouting, the concentrations of Na+ + K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, and Cl− in Taihui water decrease, while the concentrations of SO42− and HCO3− increase. The average values of PH and TDS become larger. The hydrochemical types of Taihui water are more concentrated, mainly HCO3-Na and Cl-Na. The correlations between conventional indicators decrease. According to the analysis of ion combination ratio, dissolution, cation exchange, and pyrite oxidation mainly occur in Taihui water, and these effects are enhanced after grouting. The saturation index results show that after grouting, the saturation index of dolomite, calcite, and gypsum is significantly reduced, and the saturation index of rock salt is slightly increased. The conclusion of this study is that the hydrochemical characteristics of Taihui water are greatly affected by fly ash cement. Moreover, because fly ash cement contains a lower calcium oxide content than ordinary Portland cement, the effect of fly ash cement on the ion concentration of Taihui water and the resulting hydrogeochemical effect are significantly different. The shales of the Taiyuan Formation and Shanxi Formation in the North China Basin have good prospects for shale gas exploration and development. In this study, Well KP1 at the northern margin of the North China Basin was used as the research object for rock mineral, organic geochemical, and elemental geochemical analyses. The results show that brittle minerals in the shales of the Taiyuan Formation and Shanxi Formation are relatively rare (<40%) and that the clay mineral content is high (>50%). The average TOC content is 3.68%. The organic matter is mainly mixed and sapropelic. The source rocks of the Taiyuan Formation and Shanxi Formation are mainly felsic, and the tectonic background lies in the continental island arc area. The primary variables that influenced the enrichment of organic materials during the sedimentary stage of the Taiyuan Formation were paleosalinity and paleoproductivity. Environmental context: Carbonaceous components in PM2.5 have a negative effect on the environment, human health and climate. We explored the pollution characteristic, potential sources and interaction of carbonous aerosols in two adjacent areas in Shanxi, China. The concentration levels of organic carbon and elemental carbon were of a moderate level of all those measured between 2009 and 2020. Vehicle exhaust and coal combustion were the two main sources, and Yuci may be affected by the regional transport of Taiyuan in winter. Rationale: Carbonaceous aerosols seriously affect people's health and have a strong scattering effect on visible light. Pollution cuased by carbonaceous components in Taiyuan is serious. Numerous universities in Taiyuan have been moving to Yuci college town since 2013, and the amount of organic pollutants has increased gradually with the growing population. It is necessary to study the characteristics and relationship of carbonaceous aerosols in these two adjacent areas. Methodology: PM2.5 samples were collected in Taiyuan and Yuci college town in 2017 and 2018, and eight carbonaceous components were analysed using a Sunset Laboratory analyser. Pollution characteristic, potential sources and interaction of carbonous aerosols in the two adjacent areas were investigated. Results: The average organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) concentrations were 12.6 and 6.8 µg m−3 in Taiyuan and 11.7 and 6.9 µg m−3 in Yuci. The OC and EC concentrations in Taiyuan can be approximately divided into three levels between 2009 and 2020, and the OC and EC levels in Taiyuan studied here (2017 and 2018) were in the middle level. The OC and EC concentrations were higher when the temperature was lower. Discussion: The OC concentration in December was the highest among three winter periods, which may be caused by secondary organic carbon formation related to the lower temperature and an inversion layer. Four source categories were identified using positive matrix factorisation, namely secondary source (25.0%), dust source (16.6%), vehicle exhaust (27.0%) and coal combustion (31.4%). In Taiyuan and Yuci, the trajectory clusters were mainly from north-west and west in winter, whereas the air masses not only originated from north-west, but also north and south in autumn. Yuci may be affected by Taiyuan's regional transport in winter. The results clarify the characteristics of carbon aerosols in the two adjacent areas, and provide fundamental data for the prevention and control of regional air pollutants. Environmental context. The pollution of agricultural soil by heavy metals is a significant environmental issue that has a serious impact on human health and food security. This study focused on investigating the presence of heavy metal pollution in sewage-irrigated soils in Taiyuan city. A total of 110 soil samples were analyzed for the presence of As, Hg, Cd, Pb, Cr, Cu and Zn. The results showed that the concentrations of these metals ranged from 0.06 to 26.74 mg/kg for As, 0.00 to 0.84 mg/kg for Hg, 0.03 to 0.69 mg/kg for Cd, 44.32 to 100.09 mg/kg for Pb, 9.85 to 42.19 mg/kg for Cr, 13.38 to 53.72 mg/kg for Cu, and 42.77 to 145.47 mg/kg for Zn. The average concentrations of these metals were found to be below the risk values specified in the "Soil environmental quality (GB15618-2018)", except for As and Cd in three sampling points in Xiaodian District. The heavy metal pollution in these areas can be attributed to various sources, such as industrial activities, the use of fertilizers and pesticides, and the irrigation process. According to the geo–accumulation index, the agricultural soil in the Taiyuan irrigation area was found to be uncontaminated by Zn, Cr, Cu, and As, and lightly contaminated by Cd, Hg, and Pb. The Nemerow Pollution Index indicated that the soil at all sampling points exhibited a slight level of pollution. Moreover, the ecological risk assessment indicated that all heavy metals posed a slight level of pollution. Many ecosystem service (ES) items, such as the wind erosion prevention service (WEPS), have spatially separated service provision and benefit areas (SPA & SBA), which are connected by directional ecosystem services flows (ESF). Clarifying the specific spatial relationships between the SPA and SBA is of potential scientific and policy importance for such directional flow-conveyed ES. Much of the existing research has focused on the identification of SBA based on a given SPA. However, due to the asymmetry of supply-based and demand-based ESFs and geospatial heterogeneity, this relationship cannot be directly inferred backward to obtain the SPA for a given SBA. In this paper, we propose a methodological framework along with computational methods to delineate the SPA of a given SBA. Our methods feature ESF carrier dynamics-based algorithms to determine the specific path of the ESF which is enabled by an adapted Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model, as well as quantification approaches for evaluating the actual realization of ecosystem services value (RESV) with the support of the Revised Wind Erosion Equation (RWEQ) model. We demonstrate the applicability of our methods with the example of three mega-cities in northern China that are severely affected by the wind erosion problem. The results show that the spatial distribution of wind erosion source areas in the three cities are different, and the SPA based on the trajectory weights shows a decreasing trend from the city center to periphery, with those in the cities of Beijing and Taiyuan mainly concentrated in the northwestern direction, while the high RESV zones in the SPA are mainly concentrated in the desert areas. In the time series, wind erosion affecting these three cities mainly occurred in late April and May. The study provides a methodological and empirical basis for applied ecological analysis including the delineation of the ecological hinterlands of cities, or the formulation of precise ecological compensation programs. Conducting agricultural land suitability assessments (ALSA) scientifically is crucial for ensuring food security and fostering sustainable agricultural development. This study assessed the suitability of agricultural land in Taiyuan using a geographic information system (GIS) and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), integrating factors such as topography, soil, water sources, and social conditions at a 1 km spatial resolution. The primary aim was to map the spatial distribution of agricultural land suitability and understand county-level variations. Given the irreversible impact of urban development on land use and the critical importance of ecological conservation, corresponding subtractions for urban and natural protected areas have been applied in this study during the assessment of agricultural land suitability. The findings revealed that Taiyuan's agricultural land suitability generally falls within an intermediate range, without areas classified as completely unsuitable (lowest rank) or suitable (highest rank). The agricultural land suitability does not reach the extreme conditions of being "unsuitable" (lowest rank) nor "suitable" (highest rank), reflecting an overall intermediate potential for agricultural production across the entirety of Taiyuan. The spatial distribution indicates higher suitability in the east and lower in the west, with 33.1% of Taiyuan's territorial area deemed relatively suitable, 61.3% moderately suitable, and only 5.6% generally suitable for agricultural production. Recommendations include focusing on high-economic-return crops in suitable areas, adopting drought-resistant varieties and enhancing agricultural infrastructure in moderately suitable areas, and prioritizing ecological conservation in generally suitable areas. Additionally, county-level strategies suggest differentiated agricultural models: agritourism and boutique agriculture in urban conflict areas like Qingxu and Wanbailin; cultivation of cold-resistant crops in ecologically fragile areas like Loufan; and sustainable agricultural practices like planting drought-resistant crops in water-scarce regions like Yangqu. Background: Microbial colonization represents one of the main threats to the conservation of subterranean cultural heritage sites. Recently, the microbial colonization on murals in tombs has gradually attracted attention. Methods: In this study, a total of 33 samples, including 27 aerosol samples and 6 mural painting samples, were collected from different sites of Xu Xianxiu's Tomb and analyzed using culture-dependent methods. We compared the diversities of culturable bacteria and fungi isolated from the air and murals and explored the potential impacts of microorganisms on the biodeterioration of the murals. Results: Phylogenetic analyses revealed that the culturable bacteria belonged to Bacillus, Microbacterium, Lysobacter and Arthrobacter. And the most of fungal belonged to the Penicillium, Cladosporium and Aspergillus genera. The composition and structure of airborne bacteria and fungi outside the tomb were both significantly different from that inside the tomb. The variation trends of airborne bacterial and fungal concentrations at different sampling sites were remarkably similar. Bacillus frigoritolerans, Bacillus halotolerans, Bacillus safensis, Exiguobacterium mexicanum, Microbacterium trichothecenolyticum, and Micrococcus yunnanensis were bacterial species commonly isolated from both the mural and air environments. Fungal species commonly isolated from aerosol samples and mural painting samples were Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Penicillium brevicompactum, and Peyronellaea glomerata. The prediction of the ecological functions of the bacteria revealed that chemoheterotrophy or aerobic_chemoheterotrophy accounted for substantial relative proportions in all sample types. Conclusion: These results suggest that the aerosol circulation between the inside and outside environments of the tomb was weak and that the outside environment had yet to have an impact on the air microbial community inside the tomb. Selective colonization of microorganisms, which is mediated by interaction between microorganisms and special microenvironmental factors, is an important reason for the biodeterioration of murals. In recent years, with the discovery of oil and gas in the Carboniferous bauxite reservoir in the Ordos basin, the formation and distribution of bauxite and bauxite reservoirs have attracted the attention of oil and gas explorers. Based on the slightly equidistant core testing of minerals and the porosity on the formation and calibration on the logging curves, we established a logging identification method for bauxite in the study area and fitted the formula for calculating the diaspore content and porosity using logging data. By applying this formula and a large amount of logging data, thickness and porosity maps of the Taiyuan formation of bauxite in the southeastern part of the basin were produced. Then, according to the thickness of the earliest deposited Taiyuan formation on the unconformity surface, we analyzed the paleogeomorphology of the bauxite deposition. Finally, a sedimentary facies map of the Taiyuan formation was developed based on the content of sandstone, coal seams, and carbonate rocks contained there. The results show that the diaspore content of bauxite is positively correlated with the natural gamma logging (GR) values. According to the diaspore contents and the GR values, the aluminiferous rocks in the Taiyuan formation can be divided into three categories: ① Bauxite for GR values > 450 API and diaspore content >70%; ② Argillaceous bauxite for GR values = 300–450 API and diaspore content = 25%–70%; and ③ Bauxitic mudstone for GR values = 220–300 API and diaspore content = 0%–25%. Bauxite mainly occurred in the middle and deep lagoon environments in the lower part of the Taiyuan formation. The lagoon is distributed along the paleokarst groove in the NW strike, with a width of approximately 30–40 km and a length of approximately 150–200 km, among which the thickness of pure bauxite is 9 m, argillaceous bauxite 26 m and alumina mudstone 6 m. Bauxite with a high porosity mainly existed in pure bauxite. The lagoon bauxite in the lower part of the Taiyuan formation gradually changes upward into a tidal flat swamp and carbonate platform environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Besides its systematic identification with disasters and hazards, resilience could be a powerful tool for understanding changes in the built environment. This study analyses the development of the workers' residential area in an industrial community (IC) in China after its economic transformation. How can a resilience approach help analyze the impact of economic changes on the built environment? ICs were self-contained and multifunctional compounds that first emerged in socialist China in the 1950s and were used to organize social production (factory) and collective life (workers' residential areas). Although existing research has explored the possible changes in the built environment of ICs before and after economic transformation, these changes that have either taken place or are still happening have never been quantified. Additionally, the impact of changes in the level of enclosure of workers' residential areas after the factory bankruptcy, a distinctive aspect of the built environment, has seldom been explored. Thus, this study uses a resilience approach to analyze the impact of changes in the level of enclosure on the built environment of the workers' residential area after the factory bankruptcy by taking the case of Shanxi Knitting Factory (SKF) in Taiyuan, China. This study seeks to use resilience to understand changes in ICs under the background of China's economic transformation. The finding shows that the factory bankruptcy significantly impacts the changes in the built environment of its workers' residential area, as well as affecting the level of enclosure in the built environment. With the disappearance of enclosures after the factory bankruptcy, the workers' residential area of the SKF is gradually shifting from an enclosed, isolated, and self-contained industrial auxiliary facility to an open, diversified, and heterogeneous space. Urban park green spaces (UPGS) constitute a vital component of urban ecosystems, and the unequal distribution of UPGS can significantly impact the well-being of residents. Therefore, investigating the spatial delineation methods of UPGS service levels from the perspective of opportunity equity contributes to enhancing people's quality of life and promoting social harmony. Taking the Yingze District of Taiyuan City as an example, this study uses a modified accessibility measurement method of UPGS with the smallest clustered unit (building) as the service demand point and the UPGS entrance/exit as the service provision point, to establish a micro-scale evaluation framework for spatial equity considering the service radius and service quality of UPGS. The findings are as follows: after setting different service radius for UPGS at different levels, additional areas not covered by UPGS service were identified compared to setting the same service radius uniformly, which could prevent these areas from being overlooked in urban plans. After considering the quality of UPGS services, additional areas with low and high UPGS service levels were identified. Accurate spatial delineation of UPGS service level can avoid wasting public resources by including areas with high service levels in the scope of new UPGS requirements, while areas with low service levels lose opportunities for consideration in future urban infrastructure planning. This study emphasizes the residents' demand for both the quantity and quality of UPGS, facilitating an accurate assessment of whether urban residents can enjoy UPGS, the number of UPGS options available to them, and evaluate the quality of UPGS services experienced.
