Grandparental caregiving is common in China, which can directly impact grandchild development. In addition, grandparents may have an indirect impact on children through their relationship with and support of the parents. However, associations between grandparenting, parenting, and child outcomes are rarely investigated. The current study is a pilot study which includes 42 mothers, fathers, and co-residing grandparents in China, and examines whether grandparental sensitivity relates to parental sensitivity (biological child of the grandparent), and whether grandparental sensitivity and maternal and paternal sensitivity each uniquely contribute to 14-month-old children's Executive Function (EF). Results did not show a significant relation between parental and grandparental sensitivity or a unique contribution of sensitivity from mothers, fathers, or grandparents to infant EF. Our findings from exploratory analyses showed differences in sensitivity of grandparents and parents towards the third generation but did not confirm a combined effect of multiple caregivers on infant EF development in China. Highlights: This pilot study is the first to observe caregiving in mothers, fathers and co-residential grandparents in China. The study investigated the relation between grandparenting and parenting, and the association of multiple caregiving with infant EF development. Sensitivity levels of grandparents towards the third generation were lower than those of parents. Drought hinders economic and social growth in many areas of China, especially in livestock-dominated Xilin Gol League in Inner Mongolia. Most studies exclusively utilize rainfall to measure drought. To clarify the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics and evolution rules of meteorological drought, monthly observation data from nine meteorological stations in Xilin Gol were used to calculate the (effective drought index, EDI). We studied the spatiotemporal pattern of drought and its influence on vegetation in Xilin Gol using the Mann–Kendall test, (empirical orthogonal function, EOF) decomposition, and quantitative representation. (1) The annual average EDI declined by 0.029/10a, and Xilin Gol experienced an average of 0.5 drought occurrences every year. (2) A normal incidence in Xilin Gol is 67.17–72.65%, and that of severe drought is 0.02–0.99%. (3) Xilin Gol's drought intensity is mostly concentrated in the central, northeast, and southwest regions, especially southwest and central. (4) The first two principal feature vectors in Xilin Gol contributed 52.75% and 14.38% to the variance. (5) The average (normalized differential vegetation index, NDVI)of desert, typical, and meadow steppe increased, especially in typical steppe (0.034/10a). Large-scale monitoring of water quality parameters (WQPs) is one of the most critical issues for protecting and managing water resources. However, monitoring optically inactive WQPs, such as total nitrogen (TN), ammoniacal nitrogen (AN), and total phosphorus (TP) in inland waters, is still challenging. This study constructed retrieval models to explore the spatiotemporal evolution of TN, AN, and TP by Landsat 8 images, water quality sampling, and five machine learning algorithms (support vector regression, SVR; random forest regression, RFR; artificial neural networks, ANN; regression tree, RT; and gradient boosting machine, GBM) in the Nandu River downstream (NRD), a tropical river in China. The results indicated that these models can effectively monitor TN, AN, and TP concentrations at in situ sites. In particular, TN by RFR as well as AN and TP by ANN had better accuracy, in which the R2 value ranged between 0.44 and 0.67, and the RMSE was 0.03–0.33 mg/L in the testing dataset. The spatial distribution of TN, AN, and TP was seasonal in NRD from 2013–2022. TN and AN should be paid more attention to in normal wet seasons of urban and agricultural zones, respectively. TP, however, should be focus on in the normal season of agricultural zones. Temporally, AN decreased significantly in the normal and wet seasons while the others showed little change. These results could provide a large-scale spatial overview of the water quality, find the sensitive areas and periods of water pollution, and assist in identifying and controlling the non-point source pollution in the NRD. This study demonstrated that multispectral remote sensing and machine learning algorithms have great potential for monitoring optically inactive WQPs in tropical large-scale inland rivers. Human metapneumovirus (HMPV), which is distributed worldwide, is a significant viral respiratory pathogen responsible for causing acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) in children. The aim of the present study was to investigate the epidemiological and genetic characteristics of HMPV in pediatric patients in Hangzhou China following the peak of onset of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19). A total of 1442 throat swabs were collected from the pediatric patients with a diagnosis of ARTI from November 2020 to March 2021. The following viruses were detected by real‐time polymerase chain reaction analysis: HMPV, RSV, adenovirus, hPIV1‐3, influenza A, and influenza B. A two‐step method was used to amplify the F genes of the HMPV‐positive samples. Following sequencing, phylogenetic analyses were conducted using the MEGA version 7 software package. Among the 1442 samples, 103 (7.14%) were positive for HMPV. No significant differences were observed in the gender distribution. The highest incidence of HMPV occurred in children older than 6 years and the lowest was noted in children younger than 6 months. Lower respiratory tract infections were diagnosed at a higher rate than upper respiratory tract infections in HMPV‐infected children. Only 10 HMPV‐infected children (5.41%) were inpatients compared with 93 outpatients (7.39%). Co‐infection was observed in 31 HMPV‐positive samples including 24 samples of double infection and seven samples of triple infection. A total of 61F gene fragments of HMPV, which were approximately 727 bp in length were successfully sequenced. All the HMPVs belonged to the genotype B and were clustered into subgenotypes B1 (1.6%, 1/61) and B2 (98.4%, 60/61). A total of four specific amino acid substitutions were noted as follows: aa280, aa296, aa392, and aa396. These substitutions were present between sequences derived from the subgenotypes B1 and B2 in the fusion open reading frame from position 244 to 429. In conclusion, the present study provided significant information regarding the epidemiological and genetic characteristics of HMPV in children living in Hangzhou. Airspace planning scheme evaluation based on ATC‐Flight real‐time simulation which incorporates air traffic control simulator and flight simulator has become increasingly important. It has irreplaceable advantages of truly simulating and in‐depth evaluating airspace operation, especially for analyzing human factors. As a multi‐criteria decision making (MCDM) problem, it poses challenges which this study aims to overcome from three aspects. Firstly, the complexity of airspace and the characteristics of ATC‐Flight real‐time simulation are analyzed to build a multi‐criteria evaluation system. The criteria include air traffic flow, airspace operational performance, flight procedure quality, cost, controller workload and pilot workload. Secondly, a novel weighting method based on plithogenic set is presented to derive robust subjective criteria weights from a group of human decision makers. The subjective weights are then combined with objective weights using game theory to determine cumulative criteria weights. Thirdly, technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and grey correlation analysis are integrated to perform comprehensive evaluation and ranking. The first series of ATC‐Flight real‐time simulations in China are conducted to illustrate a case study. The results demonstrated that the proposed MCDM approach could improve the accuracy and discriminability of evaluation results, and outperformed other existing well‐known MCDM algorithms. Objective To investigate the influencing factors of postoperative meningioma recurrence. Methods A total of 176 patients with meningioma treated in Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University from May 2010 to January 2011 were included. The general information, imaging findings, extent of tumor resection and postoperative pathological results were analyzed. Kaplan - Meier survival curve comparison and Log - rank test were used to compare the related influencing factors of meningioma recurrence. Multifactor Cox's proportional hazards regression model was used for survival analysis. Results The median progression free survival (PFS) of patients with preoperative Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) < 70 was lower than that with KPS ^ 70 [(8.04 ± 1.98) years vs. (8.08 ± 1.18) years; X2 = 5.370, P = 0.020]. The median PFS of patients with peritumoral edema grade 2-3 was lower than that with peritumoral edema grade 0-1 [(8.05 ± 1.79) years vs. (8.06 ± 1.09) years; x = 9.805, P = 0.002]. The median PFS of patients with dural mater invasion was lower than that without dural mater invasion [(7.97 ± 1.70) years vs. (8.06 ± 1.09) years; x = 12.357, P = 0.000]. The median PFS of patients with WHO grade 23 was lower than that with WHO grade 1 [(5.14 ± 2.07) years vs. (8.12 ± 0.87) years; x = 113.774, P = 0.000]. Multivariate Cox's proportional hazards regression model showed that WHO grade 2-3 could increase the risk of postoperative meningioma recurrence (RR = 15.693, 95%CI: 5.905-41.707; P = 0.000). Conclusions The preoperative KPS score, peritumoral edema, dura mater invasion and WHO grade may affect the recurrence of meningioma, and WHO grade 2-3 can increase the risk of meningioma recurrence. Habitat degradation and fragmentation are crucial factors which result in biodiversity loss among the world. Understanding how species respond to the habitat change is helpful and essential for the conservation of the endangered ones. Therefore, the aim of current study is to explore how to carry out biodiversity conservation from the perspective of the habitat selection of species. We studied the microhabitat selection of blue eared pheasant (Crossoptilon auritum) during its breeding time (including mating, incubation, and feeding periods). The field research was carried out from April to August in 2014 at Helan Mountains, China. Six nests of blue eared pheasants were found; 323 used plots and 171 control plots were recorded. Results indicated that blue eared pheasants prefer mountainous coniferous forest at shady slope with domination of Picea crassifolia, and its habitat selection was mainly influenced by shrub density, tree density, altitude, slope degree, hiding cover, water resource, and human disturbance. However, there were slight differences among the three periods. Our study firstly compared factors that affect the microhabitat selection of blue eared pheasants among the three periods of its breeding time. The impacts of ionospheric irregularities on precise point positioning (PPP) have been commonly noticed in the field of the ionosphere and the precise application of the Global Navigation Satellite System. But few attentions have been paid to how ionospheric irregularities deteriorate the performance of PPP. Aiming at exploring the mechanism of degradation of PPP solutions during the period of ionospheric irregularities, this paper investigates the impacts of ionospheric irregularities on the performance of kinematic PPP. The experiment uses GPS observation data sampled at the 30‐s interval over China on the days of 2014, 2015, and 2017 covering some active space weather, for example, solar and geomagnetic activities. The results show that the ionospheric irregularities caused increased positioning errors (decimeter‐ to meter‐level), enlarged phase residuals (decimeter‐level), and increased the number of detected cycle slips in PPP processing in low latitude regions of China. By proposing a novel strategy that compares the number of detected cycle slips from 30 s‐sampling interval data and 1s‐sampling interval data at the same station in an "aligned" mode, we present direct evidence of the existence of the falsely detected cycle slips in 30 s‐sampling interval data by the traditional cycle‐slip detection threshold in PPP processing. We reveal that the unnecessary and frequent reinitialization of ambiguity induced by the falsely detected cycle slips is dominantly responsible for the degradation of kinematic PPP solutions during the period of ionospheric irregularities. Our findings pointed out the direction for the improvement of kinematic PPP performance in the environment of ionospheric irregularities. The publications on elbow pain (EP) in overhead sports are increasing. The results of previous studies mostly focus on the influence of EP in the ball game and throwing sports. Thus, a bibliometric analysis of these publications may show the direction of hot topics and future research trends. The purpose of this study is to identify the research trends on EP in overhead sports. For the methods, the first step is to use the main keywords of 'Elbow pain' and 'Overhead sport' merging auxiliary vocabulary to reach the relevant global publications between 1970 and 2022 in the Web of Science (WoS) database. The literature data set is imported into EndNote literature manager software to remove duplication. Secondly, the duplication-reduced articles are imported to an Excel sheet according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria of this study. In the third step, VOSviewer software is applied as the main analysis tool in extracting data for analysis from the articles. Then, the main research results for three aspects are obtained by VOSviewer software which extracted and analyzed the parameters of author name, article title, publication journal, keywords, organization, publication country/region, and the sum of times cited from 455 qualified papers. The study found that the United States of America made the most outstanding contribution to this theme study. The research on EP in overhead sports in China requires more attention from scholars. EP in swimming is a new research direction worthy of attention. In conclusion, the research results prove the growth trend of EP in overhead sports. The EP problem not only exists in the ball game and throwing sports but also swimming. Sport commercialization and the involvement of related professional sports organizations determine the degree of EP's attention in a specific sport and the development of solutions. The development of a region or country also affects the depth and scope of EP study. Clinical research development and in-depth exploration are one of the bases to solve EP problems. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the world. Statistics revealed the number of breast cancer patients less than 40 years of age increased over time. Clinical studies found there is a trend of yearly illness happening in younger patients, whose needs related to the illness are different from older patients. The purpose of this study was to explore the uncertainty and needs of patients in different age groups who were newly diagnosed with breast cancer. A descriptive cross-sectional survey study was adopted to recruit 128 patients. The Mishel's Uncertainty in Illness Scale (MUIS, Chinese version) and the Cancer Needs Questionnaire (short-form, CNQ-SF) were used to collect data. The results revealed that a patient's age and religion negatively correlated with illness uncertainty. A patient's age, educational level, work or not, and children's age correlated with needs for care. Age, illness uncertainty, and educational level were important predictors of the needs of care, with an explanatory power of 29.0%. In Conclusion, patients ≤40 years of age had greater illness uncertainty and needs for care than those who were >40 years of age. For younger patients newly diagnosed with cancer, medical professionals should take the initiative to provide detailed and complete information on breast cancer treatment plans, prognosis, and home self-care, which helps clarify the possible future treatments and results and further enables patients to acquire self-care skills and knowledge. To determine the vaccine hesitancy of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) in a low-resource setting in China and to identify associated factors, a face-to-face questionnaire survey was conducted in the city of Guilin, China, from December 2021 to March 2022, which comprised sociodemographic information, attitudes toward vaccines and pneumonia, and PCV13 vaccination willingness and willingness to pay (WTP). Stepwise logistic regression and Tobit regression models were fitted to identify factors associated with PCV13 vaccination willingness and WTP, respectively. In total, 1254 questionnaires were included, of which 899, 254, and 101 participants showed acceptance, hesitancy, and refusal to vaccinate their children with PCV13, respectively. Only 39.07% of participants knew about PCV13 before this survey. A total of 558 (48.40%) participants accepted the full payment of vaccination, and 477 (41.37%) other participants accepted the partial payment, with a median cost of CNY 920.00. Demographics, social and psychological context, and attitudes toward vaccines were all associated with PCV13 vaccination but varied for hesitators and refusers. There is a substantial local demand for vaccinating children with PCV13 and partial payment is widely accepted. More publicity and educational efforts and a socially supportive environment are required to alleviate vaccine hesitancy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Global climate change has threatened world crop production and food security. Decoding the adaptive genetic basis of wild relatives provides an invaluable genomic resource for climate‐smart crop breedinG. Here, we performed whole‐genome sequencing of 185 diverse wild soybean (Glycine soja) accessions collected from three major agro‐ecological zones in China to parse the genomic basis of local adaptation in wild soybean. The population genomic diversity pattern exhibited clear agro‐ecological zone‐based population structure, and multiple environmental factors were observed to contribute to the genetic divergence. Demographic analysis shows that wild soybeans from the three ecological zones diverged about 1 × 105 years ago, and then the effective population sizes have undergone different degrees of expansions. Genome‐environment association identified multiple genes involved in the local adaptation, such as flowering time and temperature‐related genes. A locus containing two adjacent MADS‐box transcription factors on chromosome 19 was identified for multiple environmental factors, and it experienced positive selection that enables the adaptation to high‐latitude environment. The final closure of oceans in accretionary orogens is a transformative process for continental crustal growth. The geodynamic mechanism is still controversial. This study synthesizes the Permo-Carboniferous tectono-stratigraphy, detrital zircon U–Pb dating and magmatism in the Junggar terranes to determine their interlinkage during ocean closure. The tectono-stratigraphy shows a transition from a late Mississippian regressive to an early Pennsylvanian transgressive and late Pennsylvanian transgressive–regressive sequences controlled by the basin-bounding transtensional faults. Detrital zircon U–Pb chronology displays a change of the provenance area from distant in the late Mississippian to more proximal in the Pennsylvanian. The magmatism indicates that the late Mississippian island-arc volcanic successions, related to subduction, progressively gave way to early Pennsylvanian magmatic activity indicative of regional asthenosphere upwelling, which suggests back-arc basins opened since ~ 319 Ma. The termination of the subduction is constrained by A-type granite plutons (~ 307 Ma). The Junggar terranes changed from an active back-arc basin behind an active subduction zone (319–307 Ma), to a post-subduction back-arc basin that continued to extend in 307–290 Ma. This back-arc basin extension is synchronous with voluminous Pennsylvanian–early Permian granite emplacement in both West Junggar and East Junggar blocks. Asthenospheric upwelling in the back-arc area was triggered by subduction, but continued after subduction had ceased. Transfer of juvenile magma to the crust was enhanced by crustal thinning, high thermal gradient, decompression melting and magma pathways along strike-slip faults. The prolonged back-arc setting provided a mechanism for rapid continental crust generation in the Paleozoic southwestern part of Central Asian Orogenic Belt. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Municipal solid waste (MSW) disposal leads to environmental pollution, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Waste generated by consumption is an integral part of MSW management. Based on the meta-frontier super SBM-data envelopment analysis (DEA) (MF-SSBM-DEA) model, this study evaluates the eco-efficiency of MSW management in 30 provinces in China from 2006 to 2021, especially considering the undesirable output of GHG emissions. This study compares the heterogeneity of the performance of MSW management in different regions and explores the factors that influence the differences in its efficiency. In particular, this study uses the panel Tobit model to explore the impact of upgrading household consumption on the eco-efficiency of MSW management at two levels: consumption scale (CSC) and consumption structure (CST). In addition, we examined other socioeconomic influencing factors. The results indicate that the average eco-efficiency in 2021 was 21.5% higher than in 2006. The expansion of the CSC reduces eco-efficiency, whereas the upgrading of CST improves eco-efficiency greater than the expansion of the CSC. Urban development in China is entering an era of stock space utilisation. Herein, the spatial composite utilisation is a crucial approach to high-quality urban spatial development. Deconstructing the traditional notion of mixed land use indicates that mixed land development driven by the land market may significantly impact urban spatial composite function (USCF). To assess this effect, we analysed the theoretical mechanisms affecting the USCF in a coupled human-land spatial system. Using 296 town street units in Beijing, China for the spatial analysis of geographic big data, we employed an econometric model to examine the spatial composite functional effects of urban mixed land development (UMLD). The results indicated that the USCF strengthened alongside the maturation of the land market, while the intensity effect of the mixed land development was less pronounced. UMLD significantly promoted the spatial composite function, primarily contingent on the effects within the unit itself. Population density and UMLD exhibited a substitutive relationship in their impact on the USCF, and excessively high population density may attenuate the positive marginal effect of UMLD. Through instrumental variable methods and replacement variable estimations, the results were confirmed as robust. Abnormal climate changes have resulted in over-precipitation in many regions. The occurrence and contamination levels of mycotoxins in crops and cereals have been elevated largely. From 2017 to 2019, we did investigation targeting 15 mycotoxins shown in the wheat samples collected from Shandong, a region suffering over-precipitation in China. We found that deoxynivalenol (DON) was the dominant mycotoxin contaminating wheats, with detection rates 304/340 in 2017 (89.41%), 303/330 in 2018 (91.82%), and 303/340 in 2019 (89.12%). The ranges of DON levels were < 4 to 580 μg/kg in 2017, < 4 to 3070 μg/kg in 2018, and < 4 to 1540 μg/kg in 2019. The exposure levels were highly correlated with local precipitation. Male exposure levels were generally higher than female's, with significant difference found in 2017 (1.89-fold, p = 0.023). Rural exposure levels were higher than that of cities but not statistically significant (1.41-fold, p = 0.13). Estimated daily intake (EDI) and margin of exposure (MoE) approaches revealed that 8 prefecture cities have probabilistically extra adverse health effects (vomiting or diarrhea) cases > 100 patients in 100,000 residents attributable to DON exposure. As a prominent wheat-growing area, Dezhou city reached ~ 300/100,000 extra cases while being considered as a major regional contributor to DON contamination. Our study suggests that more effort should be given to the prevention and control of DON contamination in major wheat-growing areas, particularly during heavy precipitation year. At present, percutaneous nephrolithotomy has become an option for hospitals increasingly to treat calculus. However, due to the certain risk of percutaneous nephrolithotomy, it may lead to postoperative complications. Analyzing the preoperative factors of septic shock after percutaneous nephrolithotomy can provide guidance for reducing the incidence of septic shock after PCNL. This article establishes a logistic regression model based on preoperative factors, uses statistical methods, and uses the professional statistical software SPSS to create a database and analyze the data. The method of classification data analysis was used to determine various influencing factors including patient factors, stone factor, and preoperative factors and combined B-ultrasound guidance and percutaneous nephrolithotomy to reduce the risk of surgery. The experimental results found that the percutaneous nephroscope laser lithotripsy guided by the smart Internet of Things can effectively perform lithotripsy; in this paper, the preoperative data of different complications are obtained, and the risk of surgery is closely related to the operation time. The operation time exceeds 90 minutes and causes the risk of severe bleeding after PCNL. It is twice the operation time of less than 90 minutes and 5 times the operation time of less than 60 minutes. Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) was introduced into China as a kind of turfgrass and has invaded wheat fields of the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, causing great losses to grain yield. The acetyl–CoA carboxylase (ACCase) inhibitor clodinafop-propargyl and the acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitor mesosulfuron-methyl are highly efficient herbicides that have been widely used for control of this species, which has also resulted in its resistance evolution. However, the resistance status of L. multiflorum in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain of China remains unclear, which hinders the integrated management of this weed in winter wheat production systems. In the current study, a total of 37 L. multiflorum populations were collected from the wheat fields across the region, and their susceptibility to clodinafop-propargyl and mesosulfuron-methyl was assessed. Of these, 13 populations were resistant or evolving resistance to clodinafop-propargyl (R?, RR, and RRR) with resistance index (RI) ranging from 2.62 to 830.05, and 8 populations were resistant or evolving resistance to mesosulfuron-methyl (R? and RR) with RI ranging from 3.89 to 16.68. Seven populations showed multiple-resistance to both clodinafop-propargyl and mesosulfuron-methyl. Three ACCase (I1781L, I2041N, and D2078G) and four ALS (P197T, P197S, P197A, and W574L) resistance mutations were identified in the herbicide-resistant populations, and I1781L and P197T were predominant ACCase and ALS mutations, respectively. Real-time quantitative PCR assays showed that compared with the susceptible population, the ACCase expression was slightly upregulated in some of the clodinafop-propargyl-resistant populations (AH-01 and AH-05) following clodinafop-propargyl treatment, while the ALS expression in the mesosulfuron-methyl-resistant populations showed no significant change following mesosulfuron-methyl treatment. Whole-plant dose-response testing showed that the AH-01 population carrying an ACCase gene I2041N mutation exhibited cross-resistance to all the ACCase inhibitors tested and multiple-resistance to the ALS inhibitor bispyribac-sodium, the AH-05 population carrying an ACCase gene I1781L mutation and an ALS gene P197T mutation showed cross-resistance to all the ACCase and ALS inhibitors tested, and the HN-07 population carrying an ACCase gene D2078G mutation showed cross-resistance to all the ACCase inhibitors tested and multiple-resistance to some ALS inhibitors. All the resistant populations remained susceptible to the 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate inhibitor glyphosate and the photosystem II inhibitor isoproturon. Objective: There is evidence showing both heterozygous HTRA1 and homozygous HTRA1 mutations as causal for familial cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). The clinical and neuroimaging signs of heterozygous HTRA1‐related CSVD can mimic cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL). We aimed to characterize the genotypic and phenotypic features of HTRA1‐related CSVD, and we compared the features of heterozygous HTRA1‐related CSVD and CADASIL. Methods: We carried out genetic sequencing in a series of unrelated patients with suspected familial CSVD from China. Clinical and imaging characteristics of heterozygous HTRA1‐related CSVD and CADASIL were compared. Results: We identified nine heterozygous HTRA1 mutations and one homozygous HTRA1 mutation, seven of which are novel. Compared with CADASIL, patients with heterozygous HTRA1‐related CSVD had a higher proportion of spine disorders and a lower proportion of white matter hyperintensities involving the anterior temporal lobe (p < 0.001). Interpretation: This study shows that most HTRA1‐related CSVD patients in China carry heterozygous HTRA1 mutations. The specific extra‐neurological features and neuroimaging features reveal informative differences between heterozygous HTRA1‐related CSVD and CADASIL. We expand the mutational spectrum of HTRA1. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome viruses (PRRSVs) pose a serious threat to the swine industry in China, which has caused great difficulties for porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) immune prevention and control, due to its easily mutable and recombinant nature. In this study, two novel PRRSV strains, which were named GD-H1 and GD-F1, were isolated and fully sequenced from pig farms in Guangdong province, China. The phylogenetic analysis and recombination analysis revealed that the GD-H1 and GD-F1 were generated by the recombination of NADC30-like and NADC34-like strains which were different from the previously prevalent strain. Further pathogenic studies on piglets and sows found that the recombinant strains could cause piglets high fever, loss of appetite and lung lesions, but no piglets died. However, the recombinant strains could cause acute death and abortion in pregnant sow infection models together with average survival rates of 62.5% and 37.5% abortion rates, respectively. These findings indicated that the recombinant strains were extremely pathogenic to sows. Therefore, we report two clinical novel recombinant strains of PRRSV that are different from the traditional epidemic strains in China, which may provide early warning and support for PRRS immune prevention and control. Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is one of the most important food fishes in global aquaculture. The optimal rearing temperature for Nile tilapia is 27–30 °C; however, in some Asian breeding areas, such as south China, water temperatures in summer frequently exceed 35 °C for several days. Potential effects of long-term exposure to high temperatures on the survival and metabolism of tilapia are unclear. In this study, genetically improved farmed tilapia, age six weeks, were exposed to water temperatures of 28, 32, and 36 °C for 15 weeks. Mean survival rates and tolerance to hypoxia were significantly reduced, and respiratory rates were increased in fish reared at 36 °C, compared to the 28 and 32 °C treatments (p < 0.05). Partial temperature compensation for routine metabolic rates was observed after 15 weeks at 36 °C. Gill morphology changes in the 36 °C treatment included curling of the lamellae and hyperplasia of the filament end, which became more pronounced after acute hypoxia (0.2 mg/L O2). Transcriptomics demonstrated that expression of numerous genes related to aerobic metabolism was altered in the 36 °C treatment, including down-regulation of nine genes of the tricarboxylic acid cycle. In summary, high temperature affected tilapia gill morphology, reduced hypoxia tolerance, and inhibited aerobic metabolism, thus ultimately threatening tilapia viability and survival. Landfill leachate has been documented as a significant source of trace organic pollutants, comprising an expansive family of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). This study presents the findings on the distribution of 13 perfluoroalkyl carboxylates (PFCAs) and 4 perfluoroalkyl sulfonates (PFSAs) in leachates from 6 municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills in western China. The total concentrations of 17 PFAS in sampled leachates ranged from 1805 to 43,310 ng/L, and 15 compounds were detected in all samples. The short-chain compounds perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS, mean mass fraction 23.1%) and perfluorobutyric acid (PFBA, mean mass fraction 20.6%) were dominant. There were higher PFAS concentrations in leachates from operating landfills (mean: 12,194 ng/L) compared to closed landfills (mean: 2747 ng/L), but there was no significant difference between young (< 10 years) and old landfills (> 10 years). Moderate to weak correlations were observed between PFAS concentrations and leachate properties, e.g., TN, NH4+-N, TOC, and pH. This is the first report on the distribution of PFAS in landfill leachates from western China. The results have identified landfill leachate as an underestimated source of PFAS in the environment and have contributed to a more comprehensive evaluation on PFAS presence across China. Although crop rotations have been widely shown as an effective approach for improving yield or soil quality in the long term, the relationship between crop rotations and quality traits of crop or biochar-based fertilization is still unclear. To address this, we conducted a long-term field experiment in the Heilongjiang province of China to investigate the effects of crop rotation and biochar-based fertilizer application on the crop yield, soil parameters, crop quality, and agronomic traits in 2014–2020. The effects of rotations on crop production and soil properties were evaluated with the average yield variability during the 7 years of this study. Our results showed that the diversified corn and soybean rotations had a significant positive effect on average crop yield compared with their monocultures. The corn yield was enhanced by 0.6 Mg ha−1 (5.4%) in the corn–soybean–corn (CSC) crop sequence compared with monoculture corn. Similarly, soybean yield was enhanced by 0.21 Mg ha−1 (9.7%) in the soybean–corn–corn (SCC) crop sequence compared with monoculture soybean. However, a negative effect of crop rotations was detected on the protein content of soybean compared with the monoculture soybean, while a positive effect was detected on oil content. Additionally, no differences were detected in crop yield between biochar-based fertilization and mineral fertilization treatments, but a significant positive effect of biochar-based fertilization was observed for any crop on both protein and oil content. A significant effect of crop rotation was found on the percentage of total soil N (TN), available soil N (AN), and available soil K (AK) content. The SSS crop sequence treatment illustrated the highest TN values at 0.18%. The CCC crop sequence treatment increased AN and AK content by 9.1% and 7.8%, respectively, compared with SSS (p < 0.05). We conclude that crop rotations increase crop yield and biochar-based fertilizer application, improving crop quality traits in the long term. Thus, the addition of biochar-based fertilizer could efficiently enhance the yield and quality of crop in the rotation cropping system. The interactive mechanism of root and soil for achieving high and stable yield of maize is still unclear. Synchronizing soil nutrient supply with crop requirements by optimizing fertilization is effective cultivation measures to improve maize yield. In this study, field trials were conducted to investigate the dynamic changes of optimized fertilization on chemical and bacterial properties in rhizosphere soil, root physiological properties, and yield of fresh waxy maize. Optimized fertilization practices (one-time application of new compound fertilizer at sowing, three-, and six-leaf stages, denoted as F1, F2, and F3), local traditional fertilization (F4), and no fertilization (F0) were set up in 2-year field experiments at two sites. F3 increased the fresh ear (10.2%) and grain (9.4%) yields relative to F4. Optimized fertilization practices increased the abundance and diversity of rhizosphere soil bacterial communities at R3. The enzymatic activities of oxidoreductase, hydrolase, transferase, and lyase in rhizosphere soil under F3 were higher than those in other treatments at R1 and R3. F3 increased the contents of organic matter and total N in rhizosphere soil, as well as the root activities. These findings provide physiological information from underground on optimized fertilization types and stages in enhancing the yield of fresh waxy maize. One-time application of new compound fertilizer at six-leaf stage increased the abundance and diversity of bacterial, organic matter and total N content in rhizosphere soil, enhanced root activity at post-silking stage, and eventually improved yield of fresh waxy maize in southern China. Biomass burning organic aerosol (BBOA) impacts significantly on climate directly through scattering and absorbing solar radiation and indirectly through acting as cloud condensation nuclei. However, fundamental parameters in the simulation of BBOA radiative effects and cloud activities such as size distribution and refractive index remain poorly parameterized in models. In this study, biomass burning events with high combustion efficiency characterized by a high black carbon (BC) to BBOA ratio (0.22 on average) were frequently observed during autumn in the Pearl River Delta region, China. An improved absorption Ångström exponent (AAE) ratio method considering both variations and spectral dependence of black carbon AAE was proposed to differentiate brown carbon (BrC) absorptions from total aerosol absorptions. BBOA size distributions, mass scattering and absorption efficiency were retrieved based on the changes in aerosol number size distribution, scattering coefficients and derived BrC absorptions that occurred with BBOA spikes. Geometric mean diameter of BBOA volume size distribution Dgv depended largely on combustion conditions, ranging from 245 to 505 nm, and a linear relationship between Dgv and ΔBC/ΔBBOA ​​​​​​​ was achieved. The retrieved real part of the BBOA refractive index ranges from 1.47 to 1.64, with evidence showing that its variations might depend largely on combustion efficiency, which is rarely investigated in existing literature but which however requires further comprehensive investigations. Retrieved imaginary parts of BBOA refractive index (mi,BBOA) correlated highly with ΔBC/ΔBBOA (R>0.88) but differ a lot from previous parameterization schemes. The reason behind the inconsistency might be that single formula parameterizations of mi,BBOA over the whole BC/BBOA range were used in previous studies which might deviate substantially for specific BC/BBOA ranges. Thus, a new scheme that parameterizes wavelength-dependent mi,BBOA was presented, which filled the gap for field-based BBOA absorptivity parameterizations of ​​​​​​​BC/BBOA >0.1. These findings have significant implications for simulating BBOA climate effects and suggest that linking both BBOA refractive index and BBOA volume size distributions to BC content might be a feasible and a good choice for climate models. Objectives: The objective of this study is to compare the epidemiologic, clinical, laboratory, and imaging features, and outcomes in patients with Cryptococcus gattii meningitis (CGM) and Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis (CNM). Methods: We performed a retrospective study of HIV‐negative patients with CGM and CNM (2015–2021) distinguished by metagenomic next‐generation sequencing in cerebrospinal fluid in South China. Results: A total of 81 patients (17 CGM, 64 CNM) were enrolled (72.8% male, median age 49 years, range 21–77 years), and CGM patients were younger (median, 43 vs 53 years, p =.005). Of 17 CGM, VGI and VGII accounted for 70.6% and 29.4%, respectively. CGM patients had less underlying diseases (7/17 [41.2%] vs 48/64 [75%], p =.018) and focal neurologic deficit (3/17 [17.6%] vs 35/64 [54.7%], p =.022), had higher intracranial pressure (15/17 [88.2%] vs 25/64 [39.1%], p =.002), more meningeal enhancement (14/17 [82.4%] vs 32/64 [50%], p =.034), less parenchymal involvement (median, 1 vs 3, p =.018), more lung cryptococcomas (6/12 [50%] vs 6/47 [12.8%], p =.014), faster CSF fungal clearance (p =.004), less complications (median, 1 vs 3, p <.001), and more favourable outcomes (16/17 [94.1%] vs 41/64 [64.1%], p =.035). Introduction: A growing number of biologics have recently been approved in China for psoriasis treatment, and some of these are eligible for Chinese medical insurance, resulting in a significant increase in the number of patients receiving these biologics. Nevertheless, real-world data on the efficacy and safety of biologics for treating moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in Chinese patients are limited, and relevant pharmacoeconomic studies are lacking. Therefore, we performed a prospective, single-center study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of adalimumab (ADA) and secukinumab (SEC) in real-world practice. A cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) was also conducted. Methods: Participants were enrolled between January 2019 and December 2020 at the West China Hospital, Sichuan University. Baseline and follow-up assessments were conducted, and an appropriate statistical analysis was performed. Results: A total of 183 patients were included. At week 12, the number of patients achieving a psoriasis area and severity index reduction of 75% (PASI 75) with SEC treatment was higher than that with ADA and methotrexate (MTX) (SEC versus ADA versus MTX, 90.59% versus 58.70% versus 17.14%, respectively). Adverse events (AEs) were reported in 44.83% and 56.36% of patients in the SEC and ADA groups, respectively. The cost-effectiveness ratio in the SEC group was 46,311.83 Chinese yuan(CNY), compared with 17,580.92 CNY in the ADA group. Conclusion: In real-world practice, SEC and ADA are effective and safe for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis treatment in Chinese patients. On the basis of drug prices during our study period without considering access to health insurance, ADA was more cost-effective in real-world practice. Despite increasing interest in the implications of greenwashing, few studies have examined the underlying mechanism and contingency of how greenwashing affects employee outcomes. In this study, we develop a mediated moderation model to analyze the impact of perceived greenwashing on employee job performance (i.e., task performance and organizational citizenship behavior). Using a questionnaire survey of 400 employees in 20 Chinese companies, the results reveal that perceived greenwashing negatively affects job performance and that the relationship is mediated by organizational cynicism. Furthermore, employees' green values strengthen the indirect negative relationship between perceived greenwashing practices and job performance through organizational cynicism. The study contributes to addressing the long‐discussed problem of whether greenwashing pays vis‐à‐vis a human resource management perspective and micro‐level approach. The findings indicate that a close cooperation between the human resources and corporate environmental responsibility management departments is required to achieve the sustainable development of businesses. Micromelalopha troglodyta (Graeser) has been one of the most serious pests on poplars in China. We used Illumina HiSeq 2000 sequencing to construct an antennal transcriptome and identify olfactory-related genes. In total, 142 transcripts were identified, including 74 odorant receptors (ORs), 32 odorant-binding proteins (OBPs), 13 chemosensory proteins (CSPs), 20 ionotropic receptors (IRs), and 3 sensory neuron membrane proteins (SNMPs). The genetic relationships were obtained by the phylogenetic tree, and the tissue-specific expression of important olfactory-related genes was determined by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT–PCR). The results showed that most of these genes are abundantly expressed in the antennae and head. In most insects, olfaction plays a key role in foraging, host localization, and searching for mates. Our research lays the foundation for future research on the molecular mechanism of the olfactory system in M. troglodyta. In addition, this study provides a theoretical basis for exploring the relationship between M. troglodyta and their host plants, and for the biological control of M. troglodyta using olfactory receptor as targets. Herpes simplex Type 1 (HSV-1) is a neurotropic virus that infects the peripheral and central nervous system. Usually, after primary infection in epithelial cells, HSV-1 migrates retrograde to the peripheral nervous system (PNS), where it establishes a latent infection. HSV-1 can remain latent in the nervous system, and its reactivation in the brain can rarely cause acute HSV-1 encephalitis, often a life-threatening condition, or asymptomatic reactivations that could lead to neuronal damage and ultimately neurodegenerative disorders. Acyclovir and related nucleoside analogs have been used as therapeutic agents for HSV-1 infection, but resistance to the drug can arise, and the protective effect of HSV-1 on brain cells is limited. Therefore, there is an urgent need for research into safe and effective new antiviral agents that can protect brain cells from the damage that is caused by HSV-1 infection. Vaccinium bracteatum Thunb. (VBT) is widely distributed in Korea and China, and has pharmacological actions such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antidiabetic activity. Studies on the antiviral effect of VBT on HSV-1 infection have not been reported so far. Therefore, we sought to determine the HSV-1 antiviral effect and molecular mechanism of VBT at the cellular level. We confirmed that VBT repressed the VP16 and IE genes in both Vero and SK-N-SH cells. We also found that the generation of HSV-1 virions was inhibited by VBT treatment. VBT inhibited the activities of the HSV-1-induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stressors PERK, ATF4, and CHOP. We confirmed that VBT inhibited the activity of apoptosis factors by regulating the expression of death receptor (DR) after HSV-1 infection. As HSV-1 is closely associated with brain diseases, the study of the antiviral drug effects and mechanism of VBT is meaningful. Sponge city (SPC) is currently being promoted as an initiative under the principle of sustainable development to solve the urban water crisis across China. Moreover, with the introduction of the public-private partnerships (PPPs) in SPC development, the public's concern regarding SPC PPPs has increased in terms of their more sophisticated outcomes and greater social impacts than general urban development. Thus, to develop an effective set of SIA key indicators for SPC PPPs, this study uses social impact theory (SIT) to explore in greater detail the influencing mechanism for the social impact assessment (SIA) conceptual model proposed in the authors' previous studies. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was applied to examine whether the hypothesized relationships in the influencing mechanism fit the empirical data and to further consolidate the SIA key indicators. Based on a survey questionnaire and CFA results, a verified and refined SIA framework using 23 key indicators and five corresponding dimensions was proposed, particularly within the context of SPC PPPs. Implications generated from the CFA were discussed to improve the comprehensive performance of sponge city PPPs. These 23 key indicators and the clarification of their relationships to the respective SIA dimensions and to the overall SIA results can be a useful tool for enhancing the social benefits of SPC PPPs. Simple Summary: Turtles have been on Earth for 300 million years, but their survival has been challenged as human activity has expanded. The results of a census and statistical analysis of artificially domesticated aquatic turtles in 15 provinces of China showed that 29 species were aquatic turtles native to China and a large number of exotic aquatic turtles are domesticated in China. This paper presents the current situation and problems of aquaculture and conservation of aquatic turtles in major provinces of China, and puts forward some suggestions for the conservation and management of aquatic turtles. China is a major country in turtle cultivation and has a long history of artificial breeding of turtles. In this study, a census and statistical analysis of artificially domesticated aquatic turtles in 15 provinces of China were conducted. Simple Summary: Chinese soft-shell turtle (Pelidiscus sinensis) is a widely farmed aquatic reptile in China. It has of high nutritional, pharmaceutical, and economic value, but wild Chinese soft-shell turtle has been faced with an extreme decline of populations. Thus, it is of great significance to study the germ cells biology and develop the techniques for turtle breeding and genetic resource preserving. Nanog is a homeodomain-containing transcription factor, and it plays a vital role in maintaining the pluripotency of embryonic stem cells; there is a lack of reporting on the Nanog gene in reptile. In this study, the cDNA sequence and promoter of a Nanog gene was identified in P. sinensis, designed as PsNanog. PsNanog gene products were mainly expressed in gonads and were especially rich in ovary. Particularly, PsNanog mRNA and protein was exclusively expressed in germ cells in ovary and testis. Collectively, this is the first report on the gene structure and expression of Nanog in turtle, which may lay a foundation for further functional analysis of the Nanog in turtle, even in the reptiles. Further, PsNanog probably has the conserved and divergent function in regulating cell pluripotency and germ cell development in turtle, compared with other species, including teleosts and mammals. Nanog is a homeodomain-containing transcription factor, and it plays a vital role in maintaining the pluripotency of embryonic stem cells. Nanog's function has been well studied in many species. However, there is lack of reporting on the Nanog gene in reptile. Here, we identified a 1032 bp cDNA sequence of a Nanog gene in Pelidiscus sinensis, known as PsNanog. PsNanog has a highly conserved HD domain and shares a high identity with that of Chelonia mydas and the lowest identity with Oryzias latipes. Similarly, PsNanog presented a tight cluster with C. mydas Nanog, but was far from those of teleosts. Additionally, we cloned a length of 1870 bp PsNanog promoter. Dual luciferase assay showed that the DNA fragment of −1560 to +1 exhibited a high promoter activity. The RT-PCR and RT-qPCR results showed that PsNanog was predominantly expressed in ovary, and then in testis. The in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical analysis showed that PsNanog was expressed in the early primary oocytes and the cytoplasm of the cortical region of stage VIII oocytes in ovary, and distributed in most stages of germ cells in testis. Collectively, the results imply that PsNanog probably has the conserved function in regulating germ cell development across phyla and is also a pluripotent cell gene and expressed in germ cells, which is similar to that in teleosts and mammals. In recent years, air pollution has become a factor that cannot be ignored, affecting human lives and health. The distribution of high-density populations and high-intensity development and construction have accentuated the problem of air pollution in China. To accelerate air pollution control and effectively improve environmental air quality, the target of our research was cities with serious air pollution problems to establish a model for air pollution prediction. We used the daily monitoring data of air pollution from January 2016 to December 2020 for the respective cities. We used the long short term memory networks (LSTM) algorithm model to solve the problem of gradient explosion in recurrent neural networks, then used the particle swarm optimization algorithm to determine the parameters of the CNN-LSTM model, and finally introduced the complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition of adaptive noise (CEEMDAN) decomposition to decompose air pollution and improve the accuracy of model prediction. The experimental results show that compared with a single LSTM model, the CEEMDAN-CNN-LSTM model has higher accuracy and lower prediction errors. Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in China. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are novel non-coding RNAs with important regulatory roles in cancer progression. IGF2BP3 has been found to play oncogenic roles in various cancers including GC, while the exact mechanism of IGF2BP3 is largely unknown. Methods: The expression of IGF2BP3 in GC was evaluated by Western Blot and bioinformatics analysis. CircRNA expression profiles were screened via IGF2BP3 RIP-seq in GC. Sanger sequencing, RNase R digestion, nucleo-plasmic separation and RNA-FISH assays were used to detect the existence and expression of circARID1A. RNA ISH assay was employed to test the expression of circARID1A in paraffin-embedded GC tissues. Moreover, the function of circARID1A on cellular proliferation was assessed by CCK-8, plate colony formation, EdU assays and GC xenograft mouse model in vivo. Furthermore, the location or binding of circARID1A, IGF2BP3 protein and SLC7A5 in GC was evaluated by RNA-FISH/IF or RNA pull-down assays. Results: We identified a novel circRNA, circARID1A, that can bind to IGF2BP3 protein. CircARID1A was significantly upregulated in GC tissues compared with noncancerous tissues and positively correlated with tumor length, tumor volume, and TNM stage. CircARID1A knockdown inhibited the proliferation of GC cells in vitro and in vivo and circARID1A played an important role in the oncogenic function of IGF2BP3. Mechanistically, circARID1A served as a scaffold to facilitate the interaction between IGF2BP3 and SLC7A5 mRNA, finally increasing SLC7A5 mRNA stability. Additionally, circARID1A was able to directly bind SLC7A5 mRNA through complementary base-pairing and then formed the circARID1A-IGF2BP3-SLC7A5 RNA–protein ternary complex and promoted the proliferation of GC via regulating AKT/mTOR pathway. Conclusions: Altogether, our data suggest that circARID1A is involved in the function of IGF2BP3 and GC proliferation, and the circARID1A-IGF2BP3-SLC7A5 axis has the potential to serve as a novel therapeutic target for GC. Coix seed is a kind of widespread cereal, and it is used as a folk medicine in China. The present work focuses on the analysis of changes in triacylglycerols (TAGs) content and mycotoxins of coix seed during the processing and storage period for its quality control. Using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with evaporative light-scattering detector (HPLC-ELSD) techniques, 42 lipid components in coix seeds were identified, and seven molecular species of TAG in coix seeds from different localities in China were measured and compared, respectively. A correlation analysis between the morphological features and TAGs contents revealed the integrity instead of the particle size of the seed, displaying a highly positive correlation with its quality. The higher contents of TAGs in hulled coix seed than in polished coix seed proposed an alternative processing way. During storage, the changes in TAGs contents of seeds indicated that the storage period should be less than 3 months, and the intact seeds could maintain lipid stability better than the powder. Furthermore, the air humidity and temperature should be controlled during coix seed storage to prevent the production of mycotoxins. Understanding the impacts and extent of both climate change and human activities on ecosystems is crucial to sustainable development. With low anti-interference ability, arid and semi-arid ecosystems are particularly sensitive to disturbances from both climate change and human activities. We investigated how and to what extent climate variation and human activities influenced major indicators that are related to ecosystem functions and conditions in the past decades in Xinjiang, a typical arid and semi-arid region in China. We analyzed the changing trends of evapotranspiration (ET), gross primary productivity (GPP) and leaf area index (LAI) derived from the Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite product and the Breathing Earth System Simulator (BESS) model in Xinjiang for different climate zones. We separated and quantified the contributions of climate forcing and human activities on the trends of the studied ecosystem indicators using the residual analysis method for different climate zones in Xinjiang. The results show that GPP and LAI increased and ET decreased from 2001 to 2015 in Xinjiang. Factors that dominate the changes in ecosystem indicators vary considerably across different climate zones. Precipitation plays a positive role in impacting vegetation indicators in arid and hyper-arid zones and temperature has a negative correlation with both GPP and LAI in hyper-arid zones in Xinjiang. Results based on residual analysis indicate that human activities could account for over 72% of variation in the changes in each ecosystem indicator. Human activities have large impacts on each vegetation indicator change in hyper-arid and arid zones and their relative contribution has a mean value of 79%. This study quantifies the roles of climate forcing and human activities in the changes in ecosystem indicators across different climate zones, suggesting that human activities largely influence ecosystem processes in the arid and semi-arid regions of Xinjiang in China. xa13 is a recessive pleiotropic gene that positively regulates rice disease resistance and negatively regulates rice fertility; thus, seriously restricting its rice breeding application. In this study, CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing technology was used to delete the Xa13 gene promoter partial sequence, including the pathogenic bacteria-inducible expression element. Rice with the edited promoter region lost the ability for pathogen-induced gene expression without affecting background gene expression in leaves and anthers, resulting in disease resistance and normal yield. The study also screened a family of disease-resistant and normal fertile plants in which the target sequence was deleted and the exogenous transgene fragment isolated in the T1 generation (transgene-free line). Important agronomic traits of the T2 generation rice were examined. T2 generation rice with/without exogenous DNA showed no statistical differences compared to the wild type in heading stage, plant height, panicles per plant, panicle length, or seed setting rate in the field. Two important conventional rice varieties, namely Kongyu131 (KY131, Geng/japonica) and Huanghuazhan (HHZ, Xian/indica), were successfully transformed, and disease-resistant and fertile materials were obtained. Currently, these are the two important conventional rice varieties in China that can be used directly for production after improvement. Expression of the Xa13 gene in the leaves of transgenic rice (KY-PD and HHZ-PD) was not induced after pathogen infection, indicating that this method can be used universally and effectively to promote the practical application of xa13, a recessive disease-resistant pleiotropic gene, for rice bacterial blight resistance. Background: The incidence and mortality trends of esophageal cancer (EC) remain unknown in China. This study aimed to describe the trend in incidence and mortality of EC in China. Methods: We extracted age-standardized rates and numbers of EC in China for 1990-2019 from the Global Burden of Disease study 2019. The age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) and age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) were calculated to describe the trends, while the annual percentage of change and the average annual percent change (AAPC) were analyzed by the joinpoint regression analysis. The incidence and mortality data were analyzed via age-period-cohort model analysis. Results: The ASIR and ASMR decreased slightly before 1999, then increased from 1999 to 2004, and decreased again thereafter, with overall AAPC values of -2.5 (-2.8, -2.1) for females and -0.9 (-1.1, -0.8) for males regarding incidence, with overall AAPC values of -3.1 (-3.3, -2.9) for females and -1.2 (-1.3, -1.1) for males regarding mortality. As a whole, the relative risk (RR) of EC increased with age in both females and males regarding incidence and mortality, except for the 80-84-year-old age group in females and the 85-89-year-old age group in males regarding incidence, where they began to decrease. The RR of EC increased with age in females and males regarding mortality, except for the 85-89-year-old age group in males. The time period showed a trend of first rising and then decreasing, and the RR of time period effect was lower in 2015 than that in 1990 in females regarding both incidence and mortality, whereas males showed a significant upward trend in both incidence and mortality. The birth cohort effect showed an overall downward trend. Conclusions: The overall incidence and mortality of EC in China shows an increased and then decreased trend from 1990 to 2019. The AAPC decreased in incidence and mortality from 1990 to 2019. Semantic segmentation of the remote sensing images (RSIs) has attracted increasing interest in recent years. However, large-area segmentation of the woodland presents challenges. The wide distribution and diverse tree species of the woodland make feature extraction difficult. For this reason, an infrared attention network (InfAttNet) is proposed to extract woodland from multispectral RSIs. InfAttNet has an extra infrared spectral encoder which makes use of the sensitivity of vegetation to near-infrared and red edge spectrums. This extra encoder applies learning about vegetation to improve woodland segmentation. Several attention blocks are designed to enhance learning about vegetation features and so improve the performance. In addition, a new dataset is built, containing a large number of woodland RSIs and covering several typical woodland distribution regions in China. The main objective of this study is to investigate the impact of research and development (R&D) intensity on renewable energy consumption in selected Asian economies. We have relied on the autoregressive distributive lag (ARDL) method to get empirical estimates. The short- and long-run results show that a rise in R&D intensity increases renewable energy consumption in China and Japan. In the long run, energy intensity and financial development increase renewable energy consumption in China and India only. Among other control variables, a rise in CO2 emissions causes renewable energy consumption to rise in all three economies in the long run. The trade increases renewable energy consumption in India and Japan in the long run. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is one of the primary types of inflammatory bowel disease, the occurrence of which has been increasing worldwide. Research in recent years has found that the level of lysozyme in the feces and blood of UC patients is abnormally elevated, and the bacterial product after the action of lysozyme can be used as an agonist to recognize different cell pattern receptors, thus regulating the process of intestinal inflammation. Berberine (BBR), as a clinical anti-diarrhea and anti-inflammatory drug, has been used in China for hundreds of years. In this study, results showed that BBR can significantly inhibit the expression and secretion of lysozyme in mice. Therefore, we try to investigate the mechanism behind it and elucidate the new anti-inflammatory mechanism of BBR. In vitro, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was used to establish an inflammatory cell model, and transcriptomic was used to analyze the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the LPS group and the LPS + BBR treatment group. In vivo, dextran sulfate sodium salt (DSS) was used to establish a UC mice model, and histologic section and immunofluorescence trails were used to estimate the effect of BBR on UC mice and the expression of lysozyme in Paneth cells. Research results showed that BBR can inhibit the expression and secretion of lysozyme by promoting autophagy via the AMPK/MTOR/ULK1 pathway, and BBR promotes the maturation and expression of lysosomes. Accordingly, we conclude that inhibiting the expression and secretion of intestinal lysozyme is a new anti-inflammatory mechanism of BBR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wide-scale automatic monitoring based on the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) and Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (Mask R-CNN) with remote sensing images is of great significance for the management of aquaculture areas. However, different spatial resolutions brought different cost and model performance. To find more suitable image spatial resolutions for automatic monitoring offshore aquaculture areas, seven different resolution remote sensing images in the Sandu'ao area of China, from 2 m, 4 m, to 50 m, were compared. Results showed that the remote sensing images with a resolution of 15 m and above can achieve the corresponding recognition effect when no financial issues were considered, with the F1 score of over 0.75. By establishing a cost-effectiveness evaluation formula that comprehensively considers image price and recognition effect, the best image resolution in different scenes can be found, thus providing the most appropriate data scheme for the automatic monitoring of offshore aquaculture areas. Constructing protective forests to control water and soil erosion is an effective measure to address land degradation in the Bashang Plateau of North China, but forest dieback has occurred frequently due to severe water deficits in recent decades. However, transpiration dynamics and their biophysical control factors under various soil water contents for different forest functional types are still unknown. Here, canopy transpiration and stomatal conductance of a 38-year-old Ulmus pumila L. and a 20-year-old Caragana korshinskii Kom. were quantified using the sap flow method, while simultaneously monitoring the meteorological and soil water content. The results showed that canopy transpiration averaged 0.55 ± 0.34 mm d−1 and 0.66 ± 0.32 mm d−1 for U. pumila, and was 0.74 ± 0.26 mm d−1 and 0.77 ± 0.24 mm d−1 for C. korshinskii in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The sensitivity of canopy transpiration to vapor pressure deficit (VPD) decreased as soil water stress increased for both species, indicating that the transpiration process is significantly affected by soil drought. Additionally, canopy stomatal conductance averaged 1.03 ± 0.91 mm s−1 and 1.34 ± 1.22 mm s−1 for U. pumila, and was 1.46 ± 0.90 mm s−1 and 1.51 ± 1.06 mm s−1 for C. korshinskii in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The low values of the decoupling coefficient (Ω) showed that canopy and atmosphere were well coupled for both species. Stomatal sensitivity to VPD decreased with decreasing soil water content, indicating that both U. pumila and C. korshinskii maintained a water-saving strategy under the stressed water conditions. Our results enable better understanding of transpiration dynamics and water-use strategies of different forest functional types in the Bashang Plateau, which will provide important insights for planted forests management and ecosystem stability under future climate changes. Introduction: To date, little is known about the real-world protective role of Chinese inactivated and recombinant coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines under the background of the long-term "Dynamic Zero COVID-19 Case" (i.e., no infection source) in China, especially when facing the widespread Omicron severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variant infection. Methods: In this prospective, single-center cohort study, the clinical characteristics of post-vaccination Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant infection were investigated in the initial largest outbreak of Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant infection that occurred between the 8 January, 2022 and 29 January, 2022 in Anyang City, Henan Province, China. The primary endpoints were the rates of severe and critical diseases or death. The secondary endpoints were the SARS-CoV-2 shedding duration and length of hospitalization. Results: A total of 380 post-vaccination patients infected with the Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant were enrolled. The median age was 18 (interquartile range [IQR] 17–35) years, 219 (57.6%) cases were female, and 247 (65.0%) cases were students. Before confirmation of Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant infection, patients had 3 (IQR 2–4) days of dry cough (40.3%), nasal congestion (26.3%), and sore throat (26.3%). On admission, 294 (77.4%) cases had normal chest computerized tomography (CT) imaging. Additionally, only 5 (1.3%), 30 (7.9%), 4 (4/342, 1.2%), and 7 (7/379, 0.2%) patients had lymphocyte counts <800 per mm3, C-reactive protein levels >10 mg/L, lactate dehydrogenase levels ≥250 U/L, and D-dimer levels ≥0.5 mg/L on admission, respectively. During hospitalization, 308 (81.1%) and 72 (18.9%) were identified as mild and moderate cases, respectively, and no one progressed to severe and critical types, with a SARS-CoV-2 shedding period and length of hospital stay of 17 (IQR 12–22) and 19 (IQR 15–24) days, respectively. Conclusion: The current study found that approximately 80% of individuals infected with the Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant were mild, approximately 20% of patients were moderate, and no severe, critical, or fatal cases were identified in a prospective cohort including 380 participants vaccinated with non-mRNA-based vaccines. Discussion: This study supports the consideration of policy adjustments and changes to prevent and control the Omicron-predominant COVID-19 in China and other regions with high SARS-CoV-2 vaccination rates. Organic aerosol (OA) has a significant contribution to cloud formation and hence climate change. However, high uncertainties still exist in its impact on global climate, owing to the varying physical properties affected by the complex formation and aging processes. In this study, the hygroscopicity, volatility, cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) activity, and chemical composition of particles were measured using a series of online instruments at a rural site in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region of China in fall 2019. During the campaign, the average hygroscopicity of OA (κOA) increased from 0.058 at 30 nm to 0.09 at 200 nm , suggesting a higher oxidation state of OA at larger particle sizes, supported by a higher fraction of extremely low volatility OA (ELVOA) for larger size particles. Significantly different diurnal patterns of κOA were observed between Aitken mode particles and accumulation mode particles. For Aitken mode particles (30–100 nm), the κOA values showed daily minima (0.02–0.07) during daytime, while the accumulation mode exhibited a daytime peak (∼ 0.09). Coincidently, a daytime peak was observed for both aged biomass burning organic aerosol (aBBOA) and less oxygenated organic aerosol (LOOA) based on source apportionment, which was attributed to the aging processes and gas–particle partitioning through photochemical reactions. In addition, the fraction of semi-volatile OA (SVOA) was higher at all measured sizes during daytime than during nighttime. These results indicate that the formation of secondary OA (SOA) through gas–particle partitioning can generally occur at all diameters, while the aging processes of pre-existing particles are more dominated in the accumulation mode. Furthermore, we found that applying a fixed κOA value (0.1) could lead to an overestimation of the CCN number concentration (NCCN) up to 12 %–19 % at 0.1 %–0.7 % supersaturation (SS), which was more obvious at higher SS during daytime. Better prediction of NCCN could be achieved by using size-resolved diurnal κOA , which indicates that the size dependence and diurnal variations in κOA can strongly affect the NCCN at different SS values. Our results highlight the need for accurately evaluating the atmospheric evolution of OA at different size ranges and their impact on the physicochemical properties and hence climate effects. Background: Although insulin pump therapy is an important treatment modality for patients with type 1 diabetes, rates of pump use appear to vary broadly internationally. This study aimed to investigate the application of insulin pump therapy among patients with type 1 diabetes in China. Methods: Data were collected from the Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in China: Coverage, Costs and Care Study (3C Study). A total of 779 participants from this cross-sectional study were included. Multivariable logistic regression was used for data analysis. Results: The median (interquartile range) age at diagnosis of diabetes was 17 (10–28) years and the duration of diabetes was 4 (1–8) years. Among 779 patients, only 89 patients (11.4%) used an insulin pump to control blood glucose. A statistically significant difference was found in HbA1c favoring insulin pump therapy (8.3 ± 1.7% vs. 9.2 ± 2.6%) without obvious differences for severe hypoglycaemia. There were higher proportions of patients with no smoking, frequent daily intake of fruits and vegetables, and adequate self-blood glucose monitoring among patients with insulin pump therapy as compared to those using multiple daily insulin injections. Logistic regression analysis showed that younger age at diagnosis, longer duration of diabetes, higher education level of family members, and higher household income were associated with the use of an insulin pump. Conclusions: Data from 3C Study demonstrated that only a minority of patients with type 1 diabetes in China utilize insulin pump therapy. Insulin pump therapy was associated with better blood glucose control and self-management. The Bashang Plateau is the core zone of the agro-pastoral ecotone in northern China and represents an ecological barrier for preventing the invasion of wind-blown sand in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region. Increasing plant cover to control soil erosion is an effective measure to address land degradation; however, plant cover is different from climatic conditions. In this study, we determined the optimal spatial distribution of Populus simonii Carr., which is a widely planted species used for revegetation on the Bashang Plateau. A modified Biome-BGC model was used to simulate the dynamics of the net primary productivity (NPP), actual evapotranspiration (AET), and leaf-area index (LAI). The model was validated using field-observed tree-ring and MODIS AET and NPP data. The dynamics of AET, NPP and LAI for P. simonii at 122 representative sites in the study area for the period 1980–2019 were simulated by the validated model. The results showed that the spatial distributions of mean AET, NPP, and LAI generally decreased from southeast to northwest. The ranges of optimal plant cover in terms of maximum LAI for P. simonii were 3.3 in the Fengning–Weichang area, 1.9 in the Shangyi–Zhangbei–Guyuan area and 1.3 in the Kangbao area. Mean annual precipitation (MAP), elevation, soil texture and mean annual temperature were the main factors influencing the distribution of AET, NPP and LAI. As the MAP decreased, the correlations between AET, NPP, LAI and precipitation gradually decreased. In different subregions, the factors influencing optimal-plant-cover distribution varied significantly. These quantitative findings provide the optimal plant cover for the dominant tree in different subregions and provide useful information for land degradation management on the Bashang Plateau. Introduction: The tuberculosis (TB) positive conversion rate among psoriasis patients who received biologics has been reported worldwide, particularly in regions with low TB risk. Nonetheless, the TB-related safety of biologics such as adalimumab and secukinumab remains elusive in areas with high TB risk. According to the World Tuberculosis Report 2021, China is the country with the second highest TB burden, but data on TB conversion are also limited. Thus, we performed a retrospective, single-center study to profile the TB infection status conversion ratio among psoriasis patients treated with adalimumab and secukinumab in China. Methods: Patients were enrolled between April 2019 and February 2021 from West China Hospital, Sichuan University. Baseline and relevant clinical information were summarized, and proper statistical analysis was used under different conditions. Results: Five (5.43%) patients suffered TB conversion in the adalimumab group, two of whom developed active TB within the first 6 months. In the secukinumab group, four (5.26%) patients had TB positive conversion with no reports of active TB. Conclusion: Our data show a relatively high rate of TB conversion among these psoriasis patients after mean treatment duration of 17.13 months. We recommend that, in patients who receive adalimumab, TB be reevaluated after the first 3 months and then monitored semiannually for the next 2 years. Tropical mountain ecosystems are usually colonized by numerous invasive plant species and represent an ideal 'natural laboratory' to study the effects of altitude on plant invasion. The aim of this study was to investigate the soil chemical and microbiological properties along an altitudinal gradient on a mountain colonized by the invader Ageratina adenophora. Rhizosphere soil of A. adenophora was collected over an altitudinal gradient (1400–2400 m) in Ailao Shan, China. We determined soil organic carbon (C), nutrient contents, enzyme activities, bacterial community composition as well as C and nitrogen (N) contents of the plant roots. Ecoenzymatic stoichiometric indices were calculated to estimate the relative C, N or P limitations of the microbial community. There was a significant effect of altitude on soil organic C in the rhizosphere, and a turning point in these measured variables was detected at an altitude of 2000 m. At low elevations, the rapid growth of invasive plants depleted the deficient phosphorus (P) in tropical soils, leading to microbial P limitation; at high elevations, microbes invested more energy to obtain C from resistant litter, leading to microbial C limitation. Bacterial beta diversity and soil pH contributed most to the altitudinal differences in ecoenzymatic stoichiometry, and Proteobacteria and Acidobacteria were the dominant bacterial phyla that determined the nutrient uptake status of microorganisms. These results demonstrate how microbial nutrient acquisition belowground of A. adenophora along an altitudinal gradient, which could contribute to further knowledge about the effects of altitude on biological invasion.
