Free-floating bike sharing (FFBS) attracts increasing research focusing on usage patterns, determining factors, and integrated transportation. However, existing researchers tend to overlook the variation in usage characteristics over various time ranges, particularly the usage pattern at night. This paper is conducted to fill the gap through a series of analysis approaches on FFSB in Beijing. The characteristics of the usage pattern, including time-varying usage and traveling distance distributions, are initially illustrated. Subsequently, the spatial patterns of FFBS are visualized and thoroughly analyzed in different time ranges and origin-destination (O-D) flows. A statistical model evaluating the environmental effects of FFBS trips revealed the source of FFBS usage. In addition to focusing on the nighttime, the usage patterns varying day and night are compared through the analysis. Objective: Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a degenerative disease. Immune dysfunction found to play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of this disease in the literature, while the characteristics of peripheral immune function remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics and alterations of peripheral immune function in patients with MSA. Methods: A case--control study was conducted between January 2021 to December 2022 at SanBo Brain Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China. A total of 74 participants were recruited, including 47 MSA patients and 27 non-MSA participants. Peripheral blood samples were collected from each participant. A total of 29 types of immune cells were measured using the flow cytometry analysis technology. Single-factor analysis and multiple-factor analysis (multiple linear regression models) were performed to determine the di erences and risk factors in immune cells between the MSA and non-MSA groups. Results: Alterations of the count or percentage of CD19+ B lymphocytes and CD3 - CD56+ B lymphocytes in MSA patients were found in this study. The reductions of the count and percentage of CD19+ B lymphocytes were still robust after adjusting for variables of age, gender, body mass index, albumin, and hemoglobin. Furthermore, the reductions in the count and percentage of CD19+ B lymphocytes in theMSA patientsweremore significant inwomen and individuals aged 60 years old or above than in the non-MSA participants. Conclusion: Our findings suggested that MSA patients may be influenced by B lymphocytes, particularly CD19+ cells. Therefore, the reductions in immune cells should be considered in the diagnosis and treatment of MSA. Further studies are warranted to confirm and expand upon these findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of orthogeriatric co-management care in long-lived elderly hip fracture patients (age ≥ 90). Methods: Secondary analysis was conducted in long-lived hip fracture patients between 2018 to 2019 in 6 hospitals in Beijing, China. Patients were divided into the orthogeriatric co-management group (CM group) and traditional consultation mode group (TC group) depending on the management mode. With 30-day mortality as the primary outcome, multivariate regression analyses were performed after adjusting for potential covariates. 30-day mobility and quality of life were compared between groups. Results: A total of 233 patients were included, 223 of whom completed follow-up (125 in CM group, 98 in TC group). The average age was 92.4 ± 2.5 years old (range 90–102). The 30-day mortality in CM group was significantly lower than that in TC group after adjustments for (2.4% vs. 10.2%; OR = 0.231; 95% CI 0.059 ~ 0.896; P = 0.034). The proportion of patients undergoing surgery and surgery performed within 48 h also favored the CM group (97.6% vs. 85.7%, P = 0.002; 74.4% vs. 24.5%, P < 0.001; respectively). In addition, much more patients in CM group could walk with or without aids in postoperative 30 days than in the TC group (87.7% vs. 60.2%, P < 0.05), although differences were not found after 1-year follow-up. And there was no significant difference in total cost between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusions: For long-lived elderly hip fracture patients, orthogeriatric co-management care lowered early mortality, improved early mobility and compared with the traditional consultation mode. Factors related to mortality after osteoporotic hip fracture (HF) have been investigated intensively, except for proximal femoral bone mineral density (BMD), which is also the primary cause of osteoporosis. In this study, we aimed to investigate the association of hip BMD with mortality risk after HF. Four hundred and eleven elderly patients with HF in Beijing, China, were included and prospectively followed up with a median time of 3 years. At baseline, quantitative CT technique (QCT) was used to measure areal BMD (aBMD) of the unaffected hip. Areal BMDs of the total hip (TH), femoral neck (FN), trochanter (TR), and intertrochanter were analyzed with postoperative mortality as the primary outcome. A total of 394 patients (78.59 ± 7.59 years, 75.4% female) were included in our final analysis, with 86 (82.23 ± 7.00 years, 81.4% female) dead. All hip bone densities demonstrated a significant association with mortality risks in the unadjusted model, but only TR aBMD remained significantly correlated after adjusting for all covariates. Compared to the lower TR aBMD group, the higher TR aBMD group yielded significantly lower death risks (HR 0.21 95% CI 0.05–0.9, P = 0.036). Higher survival probabilities were observed for higher TH and TR aBMD in survival analysis (P < 0.001). Hip BMD, especially TR BMD assessed by QCT, is an independent risk factor for postoperative mortality following HF. QCT may present a promising avenue for opportunistic analysis in immobilized patients, providing valuable information for early detection and personalized interventions to enhance patient outcomes. This article investigates the history of midwifery from the 1920s to 1940s in China through looking at the linkage between modern midwifery and maternal mortality in urban areas. It first shows that people's perceptions of maternal mortality and its causes changed from the nineteenth to the twentieth century, and that a modern form of midwifery service took shape in the Republican era (1912–49) in order for reducing maternal mortality rate and building a strong nation. Evidence from urban areas of Beijing and Sichuan between the 1920s and the 1940s demonstrates that the practice of modern midwifery varied with medical infrastructure and personnel in different places, and that modern midwives in small towns may practise against the rules, taking the initiative to use forceps and perform surgery to save mothers' lives. Objectives: Concerns about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic resulted in unprecedented challenges to the management of geriatric hip fractures. We aimed to evaluate the effects of the COVID‐19 surge on the time to surgery and 1 year mortality in geriatric patients with hip fracture at a large, urban Level 1 trauma center in Beijing, and to guide the management of geriatric hip fracture patients throughout the COVID‐19 pandemic. Methods: This single‐center retrospective study included consecutive patients aged ≥65 years and injured 3 weeks prior to admission. Demographic and surgical data were collected between January 20 and May 31, 2020, and from the same period in 2019. Mortality data and functional status were collected at follow‐up of 1‐year after surgery. The primary outcomes were time to surgery and 1 year mortality. Results: There were no significant differences in sex, fracture type, and surgical pattern between the 2020 (n = 261) and 2019 time‐matched (n = 307) cohorts. The time from admission to surgery was significantly delayed in the 2020 cohort compared with that in the 2019 cohort (48.9 h vs 20.5 h, p < 0.001). Fewer patients underwent surgery within 48 h in the 2020 cohort (65.5% vs 87.6%, p < 0.001). Surgical delay was also associated with an increased risk of inpatient complications (30.2% vs 20.8%, p = 0.010), however there was no significant difference in the 1‐year mortality rate, nor between pre‐injury and 1 year follow‐up mobility as assessed by Parker score. Only approximately half of the patients in both groups completely returned to their pre‐injury mobility levels. Conclusions: The COVID‐19 pandemic has significantly increased the surgery waiting time for geriatric patients with hip fractures, which resulted in increased inpatient complications without a higher mortality rate within 1 year. Mixed-mode cooling can effectively reduce the energy consumption of building cooling while satisfying the thermal comfort of occupancy and indoor air quality requirements. This paper predicted the thermal performance and energy-saving potential of an existing Beijing office building (in continental climates) operated in a mixed-mode from April to October. For the natural ventilation mode, the results predicted by simulation were validated with the results of experiments conducted in October 2021 and April 2022. Occupancy thermal comfort of the mixed-mode building was predicted using Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) and adaptive comfort models. The predictions demonstrated acceptable satisfactory thermal comfort for the occupancy. The results showed that the mixed-mode building's annual cooling energy use is reduced by around 45% compared to the air-conditioned building. In addition, the building's indoor temperature and velocity distributions were predicted using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. The validation showed a satisfactory agreement between CFD simulation and measurement data. It is found from CFD results that cross-ventilation can provide thermal comfort for the occupancy while improving fresh air requirements. The suggested that operational strategies of mixed-mode cooling can be used in office buildings in continental climates. Summary: Soybean cyst nematode (SCN, Heterodera glycines) is a devastating plant-parasitic nematode worldwide. Two SCN races, race 4 (HG Type 1.2.3.5.6.7) and race 5 (HG Type 2.5.7), with increased virulence were previously identified in Northeast China. To obtain new resistance sources to these SCN populations, the response of 62 genotypes, including 51 local varieties and breeding lines, and 11 indicator lines for SCN race and HG Type identification, were evaluated. Four new primers in the regions of two loci of GmSHMT08 (Rhg4) and GmSNAP18 (rhg1) were designed for PCR amplification and subsequent sequencing to characterise haplotypes instead of genome resequencing. Results indicated three haplotypes among 51 local genotypes; there were 26 lines in Haplotype I carrying both the rhg1-a and Rhg4-a resistant loci as in 'Peking', 13 lines in Haplotype II containing only the resistant rhg1-a locus but Rhg4-b susceptible loci, and 12 lines in Haplotype III with rhg1-c and Rhg4-b susceptible loci. Interestingly, there was no 'PI 88788'-type resistance identified in Northeast China, although it accounts for 90% of sources in the USA. Two local breeding lines in Haplotype I displayed resistance to both SCN races. The resistance lines carried higher copy number (>1) of the tandem duplication at the rhg1 locus compared with susceptible lines (⩽1). The combination of the two microsatellite markers, Sat_162 on Chr 8 and 590 on Chr 18, distinguished the three haplotypes and predicted the resistance/susceptibility for SCN race 5. The knowledge of the phenotypes and molecular characteristics of 51 local breeding lines in Northeast China will accelerate the utilisation of sources for broad-based SCN resistance and marker-assisted selection. Short-chain and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs and MCCPs) have garnered significant attention because they have persistence and potential toxicity, and can undergo long-distance transport. Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) inhaled in the size-fractionated particulate phase and gas phase can carry different risks to human health due to their ability to accumulate in different regions of the respiratory tract and exhibit varying deposition efficiencies. In our study, large-volume ambient air samples in both the size-fractionated particulate phase (Dp < 1.0 μm, 1.0–2.5 μm, 2.5–10 μm, and Dp ≥ 10 μm) and gas phase were collected simultaneously in Beijing using an active sampler. The overall levels of SCCPs and MCCPs were relatively high, the ranges being 57–881 and 30–385 ng/m3, respectively. SCCPs tended to be partitioned in the gas phase (on average 75% of the ΣSCCP concentration), while MCCPs tended to be partitioned in the particulate phase (on average 62% of the ΣMCCP concentration). Significant correlations were discovered between the logarithm-transformed gas–particle partition coefficients (K P) and predicted subcooled vapor pressures (P L 0) (p < 0.01 for SCCPs and MCCPs) and between the logarithm-transformed K P values and octanol–air partition coefficients (K OA) (p < 0.01 for SCCPs and MCCPs). Thus, the slopes indicated that organic matter absorption was the dominant process involved in gas–particle partitioning. We used the ICRP model to calculate deposition concentrations for particulate-associated CPs in head airways region (15.6–71.4 ng/m³), tracheobronchial region (0.8–4.8 ng/m³), and alveolar region (5.1–21.9 ng/m³), then combined these concentrations with the CP concentrations in the gas phase to calculate estimated daily intakes (EDIs) for inhalation. The EDIs for SCCPs and MCCPs through inhalation of ambient air for the all-ages group were 67.5–184.2 ng/kg/day and 19.7–53.7 ng/kg/day, respectively. The results indicated that SCCPs and MCCPs in ambient air do not currently pose strong risks to human health in the study area.
