WEBSITES ,PREDATORY publishing ,WORKFLOW ,UNDERCOVER operations - Abstract
One way of exposing predatory journals is to submit a spoof article to see if it gets accepted. We investigate one journal, looking at how it has performed since a spoof paper it accepted came to light. We find that it has published almost 20% more papers following the acceptance of the spoof paper. The journal has a new web site, which appears to show that it did not publish its first paper until 2018. However, there is an old web site that lists 321 papers dating back to 2012. The editors said that this is due to a new workflow system, which meant that previously published papers could not be listed on the new web site. Moreover, the number of papers could be not accommodated, as a high configuration server would be required to provide a responsive web site. We found some plagiarism, which looks quite serious. We conclude that the spoof paper had little effect on the journal, which continues to operate, seven years after the spoof paper was accepted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The increased use of data analytics and machine learning algorithms enables better prediction of land values based on various factors such as soil quality, climate, and historical performance by processing large datasets. The primary objective of this paper is to underscore the significance of addressing the topic concerning the evaluation process of agricultural land. Concurrently, it seeks to accentuate the interconnectedness across various domains of study, encompassing strategic management, agronomy, ecology, agricultural practices, and agricultural policies. Advanced technologies such as satellite imagery, remote sensing, and Geographic Information System (GIS) tools are being integrated for more accurate and efficient land valuation. In the present study, a retrospective and descriptive bibliometric analysis using the Web of Science platform was conducted, identifying 1,630 papers on the "valuation of agricultural land" from the year 2000 to 2023, which were then analyzed with VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel to generate visual representations of keyword frequency over time. The paper reveals a notable increase in published articles, emphasizing their relevance due to their economic and financial impact, with a focus on environmental sciences and economics, confirming the topic's importance and its association with ecosystem services, land use change, and willingness to pay. The results demonstrate that this theme is increasingly addressed by researchers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DATABASE industry , *PUBLISHING , *WEBSITES , *JOB fairs - Abstract
Document type (DT) assignment is an important feature from literature databases. This work evaluated how the literature databases and the publisher websites labeled "Top 100" (T100) papers, a recurring act for which researchers identify and analyze the 100 most cited entities (e.g. articles) within a pre-defined literature set. T100 papers concurrently indexed in the Web of Science (WoS), Scopus and PubMed databses were identified. Among the 248 T100 papers analyzed, no general consensus or consistent pattern was found for labeling T100 papers by the three data sources and the publishers' websites. All four sources labeled between 30-40% of the T100 papers as reviews. However, PubMed mostly did not give DT labels to the rest of the papers whereas WOS, Scopus, and publisher websites labeled them as articles. The inter-rater agreement was only fair; the decision seemed to be influenced by whether the authors mentioned the word "review" suggestive of the publication/document type in the title, abstract or keywords. LEGISLATIVE sessions ,DOWNLOADING ,INFORMATION retrieval ,METADATA ,WEBSITES ,PARLIAMENTARY practice - Abstract
The ParlaMint project, a CLARIN flagship initiative, seeks to standardize the representation of parliamentary data across diverse languages and regions. Version 3.0 of ParlaMint encompasses corpora from 26 European countries and autonomous regions, available for download and search under the CC-BY license. These corpora adhere to a common XML encoding schema, ensuring interoperability. This study evaluates the feasibility of applying the ParlaMint schema to the proceedings of the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa. Through the conversion of a randomly selected parliamentary session, we scrutinize how various elements are modelled, delineating the steps required to initiate a comprehensive encoding endeavour. The experiment starts with data retrieval by downloading Hansard records from the South African Parliament website. An English session was selected to streamline processing for non-South African researchers. The original format consisted of session headers, metadata, introductory messages, and debate records. Speeches were identified by uppercase headers and segmented into paragraphs. Transcript conversion entailed extracting data from the PDF, eliminating technical elements, and ensuring continuity of utterances. Speaker names and functionswere identified, and the sessionwas transformed into ParlaMint-compliant TEI XML format. Meta-comments, including applause, laughter, and interruptions, were categorized based on typical phrases. Quotations, marked with indentation in the original transcript, were manually encoded as TEI elements. Foreign-language fragments were treated as gaps, with English translations provided. Multiparagraph foreign utterances were encoded paragraph by paragraph. Speaker metadata was stored in separate XML files, listing organizations and individual speakers. Speaker names and roles were converted into XML IDs, and web pages were linked for additional information. Speaker type was designated based on metadata, distinguishing between chairs, guests, and regular speakers. The encoded session comprised 95 utterances, with varying distributions among speakers. The proposed conversion process serves as a starting point for the larger endeavour of encoding South African parliamentary data in the ParlaMint schema. While not exhaustive, this study lays the groundwork for expanding the ParlaMint dataset to include African parliamentary records. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

WEBSITES ,CITATION indexes ,WEB databases - Abstract
Accurately assigning the document type of review articles in citation index databases like Web of Science(WoS) and Scopus is important. This study aims to investigate the document type assignation of review articles in Web of Science, Scopus and Publisher's websites on a large scale. 27,616 papers from 160 journals from 10 review journal series indexed in SCI are analyzed. The document types of these papers labeled on journals' websites, and assigned by WoS and Scopus are retrieved and compared to determine the assigning accuracy and identify the possible reasons for wrongly assigning. For the document type labeled on the website, we further differentiate them into explicit review and implicit review based on whether the website directly indicates it is a review or not. Overall, WoS and Scopus performed similarly, with an average precision of about 99% and recall of about 80%. However, there were some differences between WoS and Scopus across different journal series and within the same journal series. The assigning accuracy of WoS and Scopus for implicit reviews dropped significantly, especially for Scopus. The document types we used as the gold standard were based on the journal websites' labeling which were not manually validated one by one. We only studied the labeling performance for review articles published during 2017-2018 in review journals. Whether this conclusion can be extended to review articles published in non-review journals and most current situation is not very clear. This study provides a reference for the accuracy of document type assigning of review articles in WoS and Scopus, and the identified pattern for assigning implicit reviews may be helpful to better labeling on websites, WoS and Scopus. This study investigated the assigning accuracy of document type of reviews and identified the some patterns of wrong assignments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In case of scientific misconduct, the papers can be retracted at the request of the journal's editors and/or authors. However, the retracted articles continue to be fully available through online resources, including journals websites. This paper argues that a classical retraction is insufficient to mitigate the adverse effect some retracted papers continue to have on critical issues, e.g. public health. The more strict approach, 'Hard Retraction', is presented for consideration. Its implementation would lead to (1) complete deletion of the full text of the retracted paper, (2) substitution of the original abstract with a detailed retraction notice, (3) removal of the paper from the citation databases, (4) deposition of the retracted paper in the dedicated repository accessible for registered members. The benefits and risks of such an approach are discussed. Nevertheless, it should only be reserved for cases of fraud or grave errors with broad impacts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a case report on detecting hijacked journals. Towards identification of a fake journal website and preventing a hijacked paper, we can use different tools including Google Scholar and Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus (both as scientometric databases) to distinguish a fake website from a legal journal website. Our evaluation shows that analysis of a doubtful website for a targeted journal based on Google Scholar is not reliable. In fact, the use of scientometric tools for tracking prior publications of the targeted journal is compulsory. Another result of this study is that in some uncommon cases, fake websites (clone versions) may sometimes convince a scientometric database in order to be fully/partially indexed along with an abstracting of their hijacked papers while these websites steal identity of the legal journals. Therefore, as a result, we should check both of WoS and Scopus at the same time for verifying a fake website to obtain more reliability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The blockchain technology can become a solution in data privacy and protection, being considered a public and decentralized database, in which the identity of a user is masked in the form of an address. Based on this technology, several decentralized protocols such as Bitcoin or Ethereum have been created, with the help of which decentralized applications can be created. In this article, we examine how these technologies can be used to ensure the transparency of a software application, but also the privacy and protection of user data. Other facilities like Non-Fungible Token - NFT and Smart Contract are used. The paper proposes the design and the implementation (including the source code) of a web platform for education / courses incorporating blockchain technology. The results and conclusions are showed. Finally, the contributions of the paper, the limitations and future works are also highlighted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Around 2000 years ago, the Roman philosopher Seneca the Younger complained that his peers were wasting their time and money accumulating too many books, admonishing that "the abundance of books is a distraction." Instead, Seneca recommended focusing on fewer but better-quality books and reading them thoroughly and repeatedly. After the invention of the printing press in the 15th century, the plethora of information the machine produced was thought by some to be distracting. Today, information overload and digital over-stimulation lead to digital burnout -- a situation where physical and mental exhaustion is caused by spending too much time in front of screens. Symptoms of this condition are apathy, indifference, or mental exhaustion arising from exposure to too much information. Stress induced by attempts to assimilate excessive amounts of information from the media, particularly social media, the internet, or work makes us ill by interfering with our sleep, sabotaging our concentration and undermining our immune system. David Lewis, a British psychologist, calls this ailment Information Fatigue Syndrome (IFS). This paper looks at Information Fatigue Syndrome (IFS), and particularly at the contribution of grey literature (GL) to IFS. To better understand the amount of grey literature around us, it is enough just to look at the GreyNet website which lists over 150 grey literature types. They include articles, blogs, images, videos, emails, web pages, press releases, lectures, manuals, academic theses, and many others. Today, grey literature occupies a considerable role and is one of the main contributors to our digital burnout. The diversity of GL types, volume generated and shared, frequency of creation and change, currency, veracity, and value will be reviewed. The purpose of the paper is to generate suggestions on how to successfully deal with Information Fatigue Syndrome. Additionally, it will offer suggestions on how to continue using valuable grey literature efficiently, and how to do all of this without causing unnecessary stress or wasting time. COMPUTER network security ,WEBSITES ,MULTIMODAL user interfaces - Abstract
Identifying owners of devices on the Internet can enable numerous network security applications. For example, accurate Owner Name Entity Recognition (ONER) of websites is critical to find influenced owners in light of new security threats. In this situation, as a specific task of Multimodal Named Entity Recognition (MNER), ONER is essential and helpful for network security. Currently, most existing MNER models only use texts and images, so they cannot effectively utilize the multimodal data of devices to achieve ONER accurately. Also, most of the existing MNER models separately use information in each modality and between modalities. Thus, the fusion is inconsistent, so the effect is not satisfied. Therefore, the paper proposes HDGT: A heterogeneous and Dynamic Graph Transformer, to improve the performance of ONER. The core components in HDGT to realize MNER are a dynamic graph and two-stream mechanism, which could learn the relationship between different modalities during training and the graph's structure well. The paper manually labels a multimodal dataset containing texts, images, and domains to prove the performance of HDGT. Also, the paper conducts experiments on existing and public MNER datasets. The results show that HDGT achieves 84.88% F1 scores on the recognition of owner entities, 75.21% F1 on Twitter2015, and 87.03% F1 on Twitter2017, which outperforms other existing MNER models. WEBSITES ,FORECASTING - Abstract
Clickjacking is a fast‐growing threat for users online. Here, an attacker program shows a user‐interface (UI) which is entirely out of context, by concealing a very sensitive UI element and rendering it in such a way that it is not visible (transparent) to the end user. The user is then tricked into clicking on the hidden element. By exploiting cameras and publishing unwanted messages, these attacks have the potential to do significant harm. Many websites still lack server‐side minimum security (eg, X‐Frame‐Options header, Content‐Security‐Policy Header, etc) and are hence susceptible to clickjacking. Additionally, client‐side defense methods fare poorly and are ineffective against advanced clickjacking attack types. This paper focuses on dealing with the detection of a possibility of a website being clickjacked. It also predicts the Level of Security of a website against a clickjacking attack and the possible security countermeasures that could be taken to avoid a clickjacking attack on the website. Testing this approach on various websites has proved effective in detecting whether or not a website is vulnerable to clickjacking. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Trauma-informed design and technology have been an important topic of discussion in the last 5 years in user experience. However, little exists to offer practical direction for practitioners applying trauma-informed approaches to websites, apps, and other digital tools. This paper shares an example of applying trauma-informed (TI) principles to a social service agency website in the United States using wellknown usability heuristics, which are principles used in interaction design to ensure usability. There appears to be a significant overlap between usability heuristics and TI principles; practitioners can use usability heuristics as a familiar foundation to make any design more traumainformed. This paper describes specific ways TI principles can be operationalized using usability heuristics to develop more user-friendly and trauma-informed websites. A case study in design shows how user experience professionals can be more trauma-informed in their work to better serve the general public or users who have experienced trauma. The identity and institutional image of universities are presented to the world through their websites. On their websites, universities publish their academic offerings, their mission, their vision, their academic objectives, their achievements, their regulations, their news and all their university work. Hence, the importance of university websites is accessible. The accessibility of university websites has been evaluated several times in the past, but there is no work that has summarized all the evaluations performed to provide a general overview of the situation. Therefore, in this research we have performed a systematic literature review (SLR) to consolidate, analyze, synthesize and interpret the accessibility results of university websites published in 42 papers that have been selected for this study. The methodology used in this SLR was that proposed in Kitchenham's guidelines, which includes three stages: planning the review, conducting the review and reporting the review. The results present the analysis and synthesis of the evaluations of 9,140 universities in 67 countries. Of these, 38,416 web pages, 91,421 YouTube videos and 28,395 PDF documents were evaluated. Manual methods, methods with automatic tools and the combination of both methods were used for the evaluation. Most websites were evaluated using the ISO/IEC 40500:2012 and Section 508 standards. The accessibility guidelines most commonly violated in the evaluations were: adaptable, compatible, distinguishable, input assistance, keyboard accessible, navigable, predictable, readable and text alternatives. In conclusion, the university websites, YouTube videos and PDF documents analyzed in the 42 papers present important accessibility problems. The main contribution of this SLR is the consolidation of the results of the 42 studies selected to determine the findings and trends in the accessibility of university websites around the world. Purpose: This systematic literature review aims to explore the adoption, global acceptance and implementation of human resources (HR) analytics (HRA) by reviewing literature on the subject. HRA adoption can assist HR professionals in managing complex procedures and making strategic human resource management (SHRM) decisions more effectively. The study also aims to identify the applications of analytics in various disciplines of management. Design/methodology/approach: The review is conducted using a domain-based structured literature review (SLR), emphasizing the diffusion of innovative thinking and the adoption process of HRA among early adopters. The philosophical stances are analyzed with the combination of research onion model and PRISMA protocol. Secondary data are gathered from published journals, books, case studies, conference proceedings, web pages and media stories as the primary source of information. Findings: The study finds that skilled professionals and management assistance can significantly impact adoption intentions, enabling professionals to deal with analytics. The examples and analytical models provided by early adopters allow managers to manage complex processes and make SHRM decisions. Research limitations/implications: The study suggests that the lack of use of quantitative techniques is a key limitation and should be considered in future studies. Despite the rise in the number of research papers on HRA, its application in the workplace remains limited. Practical implications: This research can assist managers in implementing HRA and help resolve complex and inefficient processes, making SHRM decisions. Originality/value: This study adds to the existing body of knowledge on how HRA can aid a company's efficacy and performance and can be considered one of the first to link adoption and HRA. Featured Application: The model is primarily utilized for the task of entity relationship extraction during the construction process of an aquatic disease knowledge graph. Entity–relationship extraction plays a pivotal role in the construction of domain knowledge graphs. For the aquatic disease domain, however, this relationship extraction is a formidable task because of overlapping relationships, data specialization, limited feature fusion, and imbalanced data samples, which significantly weaken the extraction's performance. To tackle these challenges, this study leverages published books and aquatic disease websites as data sources to compile a text corpus, establish datasets, and then propose the Fd-CasBGRel model specifically tailored to the aquatic disease domain. The model uses the Casrel cascading binary tagging framework to address relationship overlap; utilizes task fine-tuning for better performance on aquatic disease data; trains on specialized aquatic disease corpora to improve adaptability; and integrates the BRC feature fusion module—which incorporates self-attention mechanisms, BiLSTM, relative position encoding, and conditional layer normalization—to leverage entity position and context for enhanced fusion. Further, it replaces the traditional cross-entropy loss function with the GHM loss function to mitigate category imbalance issues. The experimental results indicate that the F1 score of the Fd-CasBGRel on the aquatic disease dataset reached 84.71%, significantly outperforming several benchmark models. This model effectively addresses the challenges of ternary extraction's low performance caused by high data specialization, insufficient feature integration, and data imbalances. The model achieved the highest F1 score of 86.52% on the overlapping relationship category dataset, demonstrating its robust capability in extracting overlapping data. Furthermore, We also conducted comparative experiments on the publicly available dataset WebNLG, and the model in this paper obtained the best performance metrics compared to the rest of the comparative models, indicating that the model has good generalization ability. Extracting geoscientific dataset names from the literature is crucial for building a literature–data association network, which can help readers access the data quickly through the Internet. However, the existing named-entity extraction methods have low accuracy in extracting geoscientific dataset names from unstructured text because geoscientific dataset names are a complex combination of multiple elements, such as geospatial coverage, temporal coverage, scale or resolution, theme content, and version. This paper proposes a new method based on the hierarchical temporal memory (HTM) model, a brain-inspired neural network with superior performance in high-level cognitive tasks, to accurately extract geoscientific dataset names from unstructured text. First, a word-encoding method based on the Unicode values of characters for the HTM model was proposed. Then, over 12,000 dataset names were collected from geoscience data-sharing websites and encoded into binary vectors to train the HTM model. We conceived a new classifier scheme for the HTM model that decodes the predictive vector for the encoder of the next word so that the similarity of the encoders of the predictive next word and the real next word can be computed. If the similarity is greater than a specified threshold, the real next word can be regarded as part of the name, and a successive word set forms the full geoscientific dataset name. We used the trained HTM model to extract geoscientific dataset names from 100 papers. Our method achieved an F1-score of 0.727, outperforming the GPT-4- and Claude-3-based few-shot learning (FSL) method, with F1-scores of 0.698 and 0.72, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Built heritage in developed tourism destinations presents a resource of attractiveness, and its presentation through digital technology impacts the perception of culture. The paper aims to determine opportunities for further development of digital promotion of cultural attractions by identifying the potential of websites, online marketing tools and smart technologies implemented by tourism attraction decision-makers. Qualitative and qualitative research methods were used as longitudinal research and structured interviews with decision-makers of the tourist destination. Positive developments in implementing the digital promotion of cultural heritage during and after the pandemic are evident, but not fast enough considering the accelerated development of new smart technologies. At the same time, decision-makers recognise the importance of the digital promotion of cultural heritage. However, they are still unfamiliar with the possibilities of smart technology to affirm the digital promotion of cultural heritage. The paper points to the conclusion of how the advantages and potentials of developing a smart culture in destinations, recognised as a strategic policy of development, are implemented in the digital marketing of heritage sites. This paper is a visual analysis on photographs that were gathered from the main and secondary pages of the websites of the Philippines' top four higher educational institutions (HEIs), namely University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD), Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), and University of Santo Tomas (UST). Specifically, this paper used denotative reading, analysis of visual grammar, and connotative reading on the photographs to ascertain how each of these four Philippine HEIs represented their self-images in contradistinction with each other in terms of their teaching, research, extension, internationalization, campus and facilities, and student life, as well as their overall positioning. This paper was able to establish that UPD has strongest self-representation in teaching, and campus and facilities; ADMU in campus and facilities, and teaching; DLSU in teaching and student life; and UST in student life, and campus and facilities. This paper was also able to establish that UPD has the weakest self-representation in extension and internationalization; ADMU in research and extension; DLSU in extension and internationalization; and UST in research and internationalization. This paper is significant as it is the first publication that analyzes the websites of Philippine HEIs and even of Philippine corporations, while contributing to meager international literature on websites of HEIs and corporations. By looking at individual and collective self-representations of the top Philippine HEIs, this paper aims to gather insights on the status of Philippine higher education including the challenges it faces. A lot of applications including event logs and web pages uses XML format for utilizing, keeping, transferring and displaying data. Thus, volume of data expressed in XML has increase rapidly. Numerous research has been done to extract and mine information from XML documents. Mining XML documents allows an understanding to the architecture and composition of XML documents. Generally, frequent subtree mining is one of the methods to mine XML documents. Frequent subtree mining searches the relation between data in a tree structured database. Due to the architecture and the composition of XML format, normal data mining and statistical analysis difficult to be performed. This paper suggests a framework that flattens and converts tree structured data into structured data, while maintaining the information of architecture and the composition of XML format. To gain more information from event logs, converting into structured data from semistructured format grants more ability to perform variety data mining techniques and statistical test. This paper aimed to conserve and digitise indigenous games, making them accessible online, in order to harmonise cultural traditions with modernity. The majority of contemporary youth are exposed to Western entertainment that contradicts African values and traditions. Certain games have had a detrimental impact on society, leading young people to engage in acts of violence, sexual promiscuity, and even self-harm. African youth in pre-colonial times acquired moral principles through instruction from communal elders, who imparted these lessons through the use of moral games. This study contends that the process of digitization can be employed in conjunction with conventional means of knowledge dissemination and conservation to address the void in a societal context where cultural customs are diminishing. The significance of elders, relationships, and the corpus remains paramount. The study aimed to find an Afro-centric approach to digitise traditional games for educational entertainment. The study centred on the Sankofa and Diffusion of Innovation theories. The study employed qualitative case study research methodology to achieve its objective. Information was collected through a document survey. The data underwent thematic analysis. The paper investigated decolonial approaches to safeguard games via social media, applications, and websites. The study concluded that qualitative methodologies are necessary for determining the optimal and economically efficient technologies. Additionally, it emphasised that decolonization necessitates the establishment of alternative knowledge systems to challenge the dominance of Western and Eurocentric epistemology.
