BACKGROUND: With the continuous improvement and progress of the magnetically controlled growing rod technology in the field of the treatment of spinal deformities, numerous studies have been put into this field, but the main research status, hot spots, and development trends are not clear enough. OBJECTIVE: Based on bibliometrics, this paper discusses the quality and quantity of articles in the field of using magnetically controlled growing rods to treat spinal deformities from different countries, aiming to clarify the global development trend of magnetically controlled growing rods and evaluate the research productivity, research trends, and research hotspots in the world. METHODS: The articles published from 1998 to 2023 were retrieved mainly based on the Web of Science database. CiteSpace 5.8 and VOSviewer 1.6.19 software were used to analyze the data and generate a visual knowledge map. The following parameters were evaluated for all studies: the total number of published papers, centrality, h index, the contribution of countries, authors, and journals, and the trend and hot spots were explored through the analysis of co-citation, highly cited literature, and literature keyword explosion. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) Finally, 138 articles were included. From 2009 to 2020, the number of published articles in this field gradually increased. The United States has the largest number of articles (53, 37.32%), and the United States has the highest h index and centrality of articles. (2) The results of keyword analysis showed that: the top ten keywords, such as early-onset scoliosis, surgery, complications, and so on, objectively and truly reflected the current situation and hot spots of magnetically controlled growing rod in the field of spinal deformity treatment. In recent years, the research focus in this field is the treatment failure caused by risk factors such as the pull-out of the magnetically controlled growing rod, implantation failure, and rod fracture, the accurate use of the corresponding medical classification, the monitoring and treatment of complications such as quality of life and cerebral palsy. (3) The co-citation results showed that: combined with the innovative and effective research of the magnetically controlled growing rod technology, the classification application of spinal deformity and the monitoring and treatment of related complications may be the research trend in this field. (4) Many highly cited articles further emphasized the therapeutic effect of magnetically controlled growing rod technology, providing an effective new idea and technical support for the field of spinal deformity correction. (5) The results of literature keyword explosion analysis demonstrate that the risk factors, medical classification, quality of life, and cerebral palsy of the application of magnetically controlled growing rods may become the research frontier in this field. (6) It can be seen that the application of magnetically controlled growing rod technology in the classification of spinal deformities and the in-depth study of related complications are the development trend in this field, but to further understand the effectiveness and safety of magnetically controlled growing rod technology in the treatment of spinal deformities, we still need long-term follow-up evidence. The overall research level of this field has steadily improved in recent years, but there are also problems such as the small number of high-quality articles and the unbalanced development of research in various regions. Purpose: Lateral interbody fusion (LIF) is an increasingly popular minimally-invasive spine procedure. This study identifies notable trends in LIF literature and provides a detailed review of the bibliometric aspects of the top 100 most-cited articles. Methods: Articles were queried from the Web of Science database. Inclusion criteria consisted of peer-reviewed articles, full-text availability, and LIF focus. Network analysis including co-authorship mapping and bibliographic coupling were complemented by trend analysis to determine prominent contributors and themes. Analyses were conducted using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix (RStudio). Results: There has been a rapid increase in LIF publication and citation count since 1998. Leading journals were Spine (n = 24), Journal of Neurosurgery Spine (n = 22), and European Spine Journal (n = 12). NuVasive funded the most publications (n = 17), followed by DePuy Synthes Spine (n = 4). The United States was the most represented country (n = 81); however, trend analysis suggests a steadily growing international contribution. The most prolific author was J.S. Uribe (n = 16), followed by a tie in second place by E. Dakwar and L. Pimenta (n = 8). The most frequent keywords, "complication" (n = 34), "surgery" (n = 30), and "outcomes" (n = 24), demonstrated a patient-centric theme. Conclusions: This bibliometric analysis provides in-depth insights into the evolution and trends of LIF over the last two decades. The trends and themes identified demonstrate the innovative, collaborative, and patient-focused characteristics of this subfield. Though currently considered a 'black box,' machine learning (ML) has a promising future to ameliorate the health-care burden of stroke which is the second leading cause of mortality worldwide. Through this study, we sought to review the most influential articles on the applications of ML in stroke. Web of Sciences database was searched, and a list of the top 50 most cited articles, assessing the application of ML in stroke, was prepared by 2 authors, independently. Subsequently, a detailed analysis was performed to characterize the most impactful studies. The total number of citations to the top 50 articles were 2959 (range 35–243 citations) with a median of 47 citations. Highest number of articles were published in the journal Stroke and the United States was the major contributing country. The majority of the studies focused on the utilization of ML to improve stroke risk prediction, diagnosis, and outcome prediction. Statistical analysis revealed an insignificant association between the total and mean number of citations and the impact factor of the journal (P = 0.516 and 0.987, respectively). Recent years have witnessed a surge in the application of ML in stroke, with an enhancement in interest and funding over the years. Background: Relapsing polychondritis (RP) is an inflammatory disease with significant individual heterogeneity that involves systemic cartilage tissues. This study aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis of RP-related publications to quantitatively assess the scholarly productivity in the field. Methods: We extracted the RP-related original research articles and reviews published during 1960–2023 from the Web of Science database by using the keyword "relapsing polychondritis." By using R, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and SCImago Graphica, the bibliometric analysis was performed on the retrieved publications. Results: A total of 1096 articles, consisting of 909 original research articles and 187 reviews, were identified. A mean annual growth rate of 6.71% was found in the number of RP-related publications during 1960–2022. The United States accounted for the highest number of publications (21.9%), exhibited the highest mean citation number per publication (40.7), and engaged in the most frequent academic collaboration. Three clusters of RP-related journals were identified: 1) otology, rhinology, and laryngology; 2) respiratory and radiology medicine; and 3) rheumatology. Journals with a focus on rheumatology issued the most publications, and most of the RP-related publications were from The Journal of Rheumatology (n = 27). Most of these publications were co-authored by Dr. Jean-Charles Piette (n = 19), who also had the highest H-index (13) among all the authors. The co-citation network analysis revealed 11 highly connected clusters of RP research and indicated the "VEXAS Syndrome" as a hotspot. Conclusion: This overview of the RP research field comprehensively describes the progress in the field. The number of publications on RP has progressively increased but remains insufficient. The United States and European countries are at the forefront of RP-related research, and the journals related to rheumatology have covered the majority of publications. Additionally, several key topics for future investigations, such as "VEXAS Syndrome," have been identified. Objectives: The aim of this bibliometric analysis was twofold: to identify the 100 most cited research articles on thymoma and to highlight future research opportunities in light of past and current research efforts. Methods: The Web of Science database was queried to identify the 100 most cited articles on thymoma. Imformations relevant to scientific research were extracted and analyzed: first author, journal, impact factor, type of article, year of publication, country, organization and keywords. Results: The publication year of the top 100 most cited articles ranged from 1981 to 2018, and the number of citations ranged from 97 to 1182. Most of the included articles are original (75/100) and are mainly retrospective studies (52/75). The United States has the most published articles and citations, and the Annals of Thoracic Surgery is the most sourced journal (n = 16). Through VOSviewer analysis, high-density keywords mainly come from thymic carcinoma/invasive thymoma management, immune-related diseases, and laboratory research. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first bibliometric study on thymoma. We found most of the top 100 most cited articles are original and retrospective research. The United States has the published and cited works. Presently, the hot keywords for thymoma research has gradually tilted towards immune-related diseases and laboratory research. Bibliometric analysis allows the analysis and evaluation of scientific studies by different methods. This study aims to present an overview of the "Accounting Standards" literature in the journals indexed on the Web of Science. This subject area is scanned in 1851 publications within the "Business-Finance" category on June 25, 2021. R-Studio program is used in the analysis and this study contributes by applying bibliometric analysis to articles published in these fields since 1970. Coporate volutering has been highlighted in academic and practional business literature. This article prepared a bibliometric analysis related to corporate volunteering in the Web of Science database. Articles from the beginning of the database until 2019 were analyzed and the VOSviewer software was used to determine the areas of emphasis for researchers, the language of publication of this research, the trend in the number of publications from year to year, the most relevant journals for publication and the most cited authors. The study revealed that 97.08% of the articles are in English, with 29.7% being produced in the United States. The research provides guidance for those who wish to produce research on organizational performance, pointing to the most prominent researchers and resources on the subject. The main purpose of this study is to identify the trends in predatory publishing and to compile a core reading list of documents on the topic of 'predatory journals.' The study examined 541 documents on the topic of 'predatory journals' indexed in the Web of Science database published between 2012 and 2021. The data set was analyzed quantitatively (bibliometric study) and qualitatively (document classification). For bibliometric analysis, parameters like year, disciplines, number of citations, countries, document types, and journals were used. The documents were classified into four groups, namely, General (326), Empirical Studies (89), Technical Specifics (71), and Cautionary Texts (55). The results of the analysis and co-relation between quantitative and qualitative parameters reveal that publications in medical sciences (221) form the majority in almost all groups. There is a steady growth in publications in all groups during 2018 and 2019. Research papers and editorial materials are greater in number. The largest number of documents are from the United States (163 documents). A large number of papers have been published in the journals Scientometrics (22) and Learned Publishing (28). The most highly cited (17) papers have been published in Nature. The core reading list of forty documents on predatory journals is the outcome of the study after examining the co-relationship between the two methods. The articles accessed from Web of Science database were subjected to bibliometric analysis by science mapping technique to examine the international internal audit research studies. The first article was published in 1975; number of articles has increased since 2002. Alzeban A., Barac K., Wood D.A. and Sarens G. are the authors working most intensively on this subject, while, Wood D.A. is the author with the most collaborations. United States holds the highest number of articles, number of citations, and strong links to other country-based publications. However, it is observed that number of publications and impact of the publications are not in the same direction. In recent years, topics including quality, effectiveness, standards, assurance, data analysis, and financial reporting quality have been studied with respect to internal audit. The National Inpatient Sample (NIS) (the largest all-payer inpatient database in the United States) is an important instrument for big data analysis of neurosurgical inquiries. However, earlier research has determined that many NIS studies are limited by common methodological pitfalls. In this study, we provide the first primer of NIS methodological procedures in the setting of neurosurgical research and review all reported neurosurgical studies using the NIS. We designed a protocol for neurosurgical big data research using the NIS, based on our subject matter expertise, NIS documentation, and input and verification from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project. We subsequently used a comprehensive search strategy to identify all neurosurgical studies using the NIS in the PubMed and MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science databases from inception to August 2021. Studies underwent qualitative categorization (years of NIS studied, neurosurgical subspecialty, age group, and thematic focus of study objective) and analysis of longitudinal trends. We identified a canonical, 4-step protocol for NIS analysis: study population selection; defining additional clinical variables; identification and coding of outcomes; and statistical analysis. Methodological nuances discussed include identifying neurosurgery-specific admissions, addressing missing data, calculating additional severity and hospital-specific metrics, coding perioperative complications, and applying survey weights to make nationwide estimates. Inherent database limitations and common pitfalls of NIS studies discussed include lack of disease process–specific variables and data after the index admission, inability to calculate certain hospital-specific variables after 2011, performing state-level analyses, conflating hospitalization charges and costs, and not following proper statistical methodology for performing survey-weighted regression. In a systematic review, we identified 647 neurosurgical studies using the NIS. Although almost 60% of studies were reported after 2015, <10% of studies analyzed NIS data after 2015. The average sample size of studies was 507,352 patients (standard deviation = 2,739,900). Most studies analyzed cranial procedures (58.1%) and adults (68.1%). The most prevalent topic areas analyzed were surgical outcome trends (35.7%) and health policy and economics (17.8%), whereas patient disparities (9.4%) and surgeon or hospital volume (6.6%) were the least studied. We present a standardized methodology to analyze the NIS, systematically review the state of the NIS neurosurgical literature, suggest potential future directions for neurosurgical big data inquiries, and outline recommendations to improve the design of future neurosurgical data instruments. Gliomas are the most common primary malignant tumor of the central nervous system. At the present time, radiotherapy (RT) is the cornerstone of therapeutic approaches, but the worldwide research trends in RT for gliomas in the world are unclear. This bibliometric analysis aimed to investigate trends in glioma RT research since 2011. The Web of Science database was searched, and SigmaPlot 14.0 and VOSviewer software were used to analyze and visualize the trends. Bibliometric analysis of 5106 articles was conducted. While the number of publications per year was relatively steady, the number of citations grew exponentially from 356 in 2011 to 21,051 in 2020. Articles originated from 89 countries, with the majority from the United States. Journal of Neuro-Oncology and Texas A&M University were the journal and institution, respectively, with the highest number of publications. The articles mainly involved oncology, neurology, radiology, and surgery. This bibliometric analysis found an increased focus on glioblastoma, survival, and chemotherapy in glioma RT research. • Incidental adrenal masses detected in up to 10% of abdominal imaging for patients >65 • Less than 1/3 of patients undergo necessary imaging follow-up • Only 1/5 of patients undergo necessary biochemical testing • Dedicated teams and specific recommendations in radiology report increase follow-up • Referral for endocrinology consultation associated with high rates of evaluation Incidental adrenal masses (IAMs) are detected in approximately 1%-2% of abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans. Recent estimates suggest that more than 70-million relevant CT scans are performed annually in the United States; thus, IAMs represent a significant clinical entity. Most clinical guidelines recommend an initial follow-up evaluation that includes imaging and biochemical testing after index IAM detection. Systematic review of literature in the PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science databases to determine whether guidelines regarding IAM evaluation are followed and to identify effective management strategies. Our initial search was in January 2018 and updated in November, 2019. 31 studies met inclusion criteria. In most institutions, only a minority of patients with IAMs undergo initial follow-up imaging (median 34%, IQR 20%-50%) or biochemical testing (median 18%, IQR 15%-28%). 2 interventions shown to improve IAM evaluation are IAM-specific recommendations in radiology reports and dedicated multi-disciplinary teams. Interventions focused solely on alerting the ordering clinician or primary care provider to the presence of an IAM have not demonstrated effectiveness. Patients who are referred to an endocrinologist are more likely to have a complete IAM evaluation, but few are referred. Most patients with an IAM do not have an initial evaluation. The radiology report has been identified as a key component in determining whether IAMs are evaluated appropriately. Care teams dedicated to management of incidental radiographic findings also improve IAM follow-up. Neurosurgeons, especially spine surgeons, have the highest risk of facing a malpractice claim. Average verdicts in spine surgery litigation has been shown to be over USD $1 million/case. This systematic review aimed to clarify the impact of tort reforms on neurosurgical health care environments across the United States, including patient outcomes, practice of defensive medicine, and physician supply aims. A systematic literature search was performed using PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science databases until May 13, 2022. Study quality was assessed using the quality assessment tool for studies reporting prevalence data. Five studies (all rated as good quality) were included. Two studies found that in higher-risk state malpractice environments, risk of postoperative complications was higher and odds of nonhome discharge were larger (odds ratio 1.1169, 95% confidence interval 1.139–1.200). One study found that neurosurgeons reported practice of defensive medicine by ordering more imaging in a higher-risk environment, while this was not shown in a study examining imaging rates in different medicolegal environments. One study observed that noneconomic damage caps were associated with a 3.9% increase of physician supply in high-risk specialties. There was a suggestive association between tort reforms and less practice of defensive medicine among neurosurgeons, improvement in postoperative outcomes in spinal fusion patients, and increase in physician supply. More elaborate studies on the medicolegal environment in neurosurgical practice are needed to give more insight on the current size of the problem that litigation presents in the United States and the effects tort reforms have on neurosurgical health care environments. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to augment clinicians' diagnostic and decision-making capabilities. It is well suited to identify patterns and correlations within data sets and may be applied to identify elements of importance in complex and data-laden areas such as patient selection, diagnostics, treatment, and outcome prediction. The development of modern neurosurgery has been dependent on major technological advances. In line with this, a growing interest is seen in the use of AI to assist in neurosurgical research and enhance neurosurgical practices. A bibliometric analysis of the 50 most-cited articles alluding to the use of AI in neurosurgery, from inception until July of 2022, was undertaken using the Web of Science database. Statistical analyses were performed on R. The citation count ranged from 29 to 159 (mean: 51.9, standard deviation: 24.8), and the top-cited article was a 2018 systematic review published in World Neurosurgery. Most articles were published after 2015 (85%). The United States was the largest contributing country on the list with 22 articles. Four first and last authors, each, had 2 or more publications. Female first and last authorship was attributed to 18% and 0% of the articles, respectively. This review highlights the most-impactful articles pertaining to AI in the field of neurosurgery. Although female authors were significantly underrepresented on the list, their work was at least as impactful as their male peers. Finally, the striking dominance of articles originating from the developed world raises concerns as to the future of AI in attending to the global health crisis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
