We analysed the hydrogeochemical and isotopic contents in groundwater for the period 2002-2020, in the Ischia Island, a volcanic island in Southern Italy, and compared them with seismic events that occurred in the same period. The study is based on a large hydrochemical database, which includes chemical (major and minor compounds, metals and trace elements) and isotopic analyses (δ 18 O and δ 2 H). For each of the 34 seismic events occurred in the studied period, we considered coordinates, date, time, depth and magnitude. To exclude the influence of meteorological variability on the hydrochemistry, we examined rainfall time series measured in four stations located in the island. Results show hydrogeochemical anomalies for some chemical elements observed months before the seismic events. Arsenic, electrical conductivity, chromium and vanadium have been identified as potentially affected by hydrogeochemical anomalies related to the earthquakes. The variations in stable isotopes (δ 2 H and δ 18 O) in groundwater also seem associated with the earthquakes. This study aims to contribute to the individuation of components in groundwater prone to register sudden changes related to seismic events and it highlights the need of a continuous and long-term hydrogeochemical monitoring in seismic areas. A comprehensive geochemical study was conducted in the Sibuti River estuary by considering water, suspended solids (SS), and sediment samples from 36 stations during southwest monsoon (SWM) and northeast monsoon (NEM). In this study, the distribution of in situ parameters, major ions, nutrients, trace metals, and isotopes (δD, δ 18 O) were analyzed in water samples, whereas sediments and SS were studied for trace metals. The distribution revealed that suspended solids were the major carrier of Cd, Zn, and Mn, whereas sediments worked as a major source of Co, Cr, Ba, Se, Cu, and Pb. Na-Cl water type and ion exchange dominated the lower part of the estuary during both seasons. However, the mixed mechanism of Ca-Cl, Ca-Mg-Cl, and higher weathering indicated reverse ion exchange in the intermediate and upper parts of the estuary. Isotopic signatures of δD and δ 18 O in estuarine water indicate that the precipitation over the Limbang area dominates during SWM, whereas higher evaporation was confirmed during NEM. The factor analysis revealed that seawater influence in the estuary majority controlled the water chemistry irrespective of seasons. Major ions were mainly regulated by the tidal influence during the low flow time of the river (SWM), whereas the mixing mechanism of weathering and seawater controlled the concentrations during NEM. Nutrients such as NO 3 , SO 4 2- , NH 3 , and NH 4 + mainly originated from the agricultural fields and nitrification along with ammonification were responsible for the recycling of such nutrients. Trace metals except Cd were found to be geogenic in nature and originating mainly from the oxidation of pyrites present in the sandstone and mudstones of the Sibuti Formation. Redox condition was catalyzed by microorganisms near the river mouth, whereas Al-oxyhydroxides and Fe-oxyhydroxides complexes in the intermediate and upper part under oxygenated conditions controlled the absorption of metals. The Caspian Sea is exposed to numerous anthropogenic activities such as untreated wastewater discharge and agricultural activities which increased trace metals contamination. The current study was employed to assess the distribution, ecological risk assessment, and source identification of some trace metals in 125 samples of surface sediments and soil from 6 distinctive sections of Babolsar in the coastal line of the Caspian Sea. The sediment quality guidelines (SQGs) and individual risk assessment indices including enrichment factor (EF), geo-accumulation index (I geo ), contamination factor (Cf), and potential risk factor (Er) suggested a hazardous level of Cd and Cr contamination. There was a relatively high level of Pb contamination while other studied trace metals were at a low contamination level. Cumulative risk indices such as modified degree of contamination (mCD), pollution load index (PLI), and the potential ecological risk index (RI) identified that the river, wetland, and farmland sites were more contaminated compared to the Caspian Sea samples which exhibited a moderate level of contamination. The lowest level of contamination was recorded in the coastline and river delta sites. Two analytical methods including Pearson's correlation coefficient and multivariate clustering dendrogram were also applied to identify the potential sources of contamination. The results suggested that wastewaters, nitrogen, and phosphate fertilizers were the main anthropogenic source of Cd, Co, Pb, and Ni while fossil fuels and transportation activities were the predominant sources of anthropogenic Cu, V, and Zn contamination. Further studies about trace metals risk assessment and fractionation could contribute to more effective decisions for reducing the anthropogenic trace metal pollution in the Caspian Sea., (© 2022. Unconventional oil and gas (UOG) extraction is increasing exponentially around the world, as new technological advances have provided cost-effective methods to extract hard-to-reach hydrocarbons. While UOG has increased the energy output of some countries, past research indicates potential impacts in nearby stream ecosystems as measured by geochemical and microbial markers. Here, we utilized a robust data set that combines 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing (DNA), metatranscriptomics (RNA), geochemistry, and trace element analyses to establish the impact of UOG activity in 21 sites in northern Pennsylvania. These data were also used to design predictive machine learning models to determine the UOG impact on streams. We identified multiple biomarkers of UOG activity and contributors of antimicrobial resistance within the order Burkholderiales . Furthermore, we identified expressed antimicrobial resistance genes, land coverage, geochemistry, and specific microbes as strong predictors of UOG status. Of the predictive models constructed ( n  = 30), 15 had accuracies higher than expected by chance and area under the curve values above 0.70. The supervised random forest models with the highest accuracy were constructed with 16S rRNA gene profiles, metatranscriptomics active microbial composition, metatranscriptomics active antimicrobial resistance genes, land coverage, and geochemistry ( n  = 23). The models identified the most important features within those data sets for classifying UOG status. These findings identified specific shifts in gene presence and expression, as well as geochemical measures, that can be used to build robust models to identify impacts of UOG development. IMPORTANCE The environmental implications of unconventional oil and gas extraction are only recently starting to be systematically recorded. Our research shows the utility of microbial communities paired with geochemical markers to build strong predictive random forest models of unconventional oil and gas activity and the identification of key biomarkers. Microbial communities, their transcribed genes, and key biomarkers can be used as sentinels of environmental changes. Slight changes in microbial function and composition can be detected before chemical markers of contamination. Potential contamination, specifically from biocides, is especially concerning due to its potential to promote antibiotic resistance in the environment. Additionally, as microbial communities facilitate the bulk of nutrient cycling in the environment, small changes may have long-term repercussions. Supervised random forest models can be used to identify changes in those communities, greatly enhance our understanding of what such impacts entail, and inform environmental management decisions.

The importance of environmental geochemistry baseline in soils of O´Higgins Region, Chile, since it hosts in its eastern area one of the major Cu-Mo producing mines in the country, is to establish and explain relationships between the chemical compositions of the Earth's surface and potential contaminants sources such as mining industry, agriculture and urban activity. A total of 109 samples of urban, peri-urban and rural soils were analyzed with X-ray fluorescence to determine most of the elemental concentrations analyzed. The C and S analyses were performed with the high-temperature combustion method, and a MERCUR mercury analyzer was used for Hg. The study shows that the distribution patterns for most major elements and some trace elements are controlled by the lithologic substrate. This study identified areas with metals and metalloids in high concentrations, which are a risk to the environment and health according to established international regulations. Some of these components correspond to Cu (2500 ppm), Mo (26,5 ppm), As (134,6 ppm), Cr (206.6 ppm), Hg (0.2 ppm), Ni (26.4 ppm), Pb (61.7 ppm), V (227,2 ppm) and Zn (180.3 ppm). Through an elementary association analysis, most of these elements resulted from extractive activities of Cu, metal alloys and oil combustion. It was also possible to trace the use of fertilizers and pesticides in agricultural soils, as well as the combustion of oil related to vehicles in the study area. Sediment samples from 53 stations of the southwestern Chukchi sea were investigated to the spatial distributions and assess the state of trace metals contamination using ecological indices. The mean concentrations (mg kg -1 ) in sediments were: Cr (70.5), Ni (41.0), Cu (16.5), Zn (82.7), As (15.90), Cd (0.27), Pb (15.96), Hg (32.0 μg kg -1 ). The spatial distribution pattern of trace metals was similar with maximum values in the northern of the Chukchi Sea in the outer shelf sediments, while the high values of Cd were noted at stations located in the southern part of the sea where a strong influence of the Pacific waters penetrating through the Bering Strait. The ecological indices indicated no signs of anthropogenic pollution in the study sediments of the Chukchi Sea. The mineralogical and geochemical characterization of sediments of the Reconquista River allows analyzing the geochemical partition of trace elements in one of the most polluted water courses of Argentina. The low dissolved oxygen and high ammonia contents, together with the high chemical oxygen demand, attest to the poor water quality. Ammonia, Cd and Cu content in surficial water exceeds the maximum guidelines for freshwater in Argentina. The recent sediments of the uppermost bed are enriched in organic matter (OM), sulfur, Zn, Cu and Pb. The enrichment factor is moderate, and the geoaccumulation index (Igeo) for Cu and Pb indicates uncontaminated to moderately contaminated sediments. The positive and significant correlation between As, Cr, Pb and Zn with the iron content suggests that their retention is controlled by the amount of iron oxy (hydr)oxides in the sediments, probably combined with the silt + clay abundance. In comparison with its tributary, the Las Catonas Stream, the Reconquista River, has less OM and trace elements in the sediments and more dissolved trace elements in the interstitial water. We interpret that OM is the main sorbent of the trace element. In the absence of OM, the iron oxy (hydr)oxides and the silt + clay fraction are a less efficient substitute. Consequently, the interstitial waters of the Reconquista River are enriched in these elements. Therefore, minor changes in the environmental conditions may generate significant release of hazardous trace elements from the sediments to the interstitial water and, in turn, to the surficial water of the river. In the article, the following were considered: classification of geochemical landscapes of the investigated territory, migration and accumulation of toxic chemical elements and their impact on human health. The research article was carried out in two directions: the first part-migration patterns of the chemical elements. The migration of chemical elements by landscape types has been identified, and a map has been developed showing the migration of chemical elements across the landscape. The second part of the article explores the toxicity of chemical elements that are common in the area and examines the relationship between the diseases observed in areas where the toxic elements are most commonly encountered and their effects on human health. The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the geochemical transformation of landscapes in the research area (of the Kura intermountain basin) based on the patterns of concentration and migration of macro-compounds and trace elements found in samples of mountain rocks, soil, plants and water, for which a comparative method of research and the relationship of landscape components was used. For the first time, a medium-scale "Geochemical classification of landscapes" and then "map scheme of diseases caused by anomalous concentration of microelements" of this region were compiled. The article reveals the characteristic features of the compiled maps and the features of the geochemical transformation of the study area. The geochemistry of landscapes studies the patterns of migration of chemical elements in the Earth's geographical shell. It deals with patterns of substance migration in that shell of the Earth that is the place of human life. The landscape is a fundamental concept of natural science as "chemical element," mineral, "soil." Consumption of geophagic materials can be detrimental to human health. These materials, which are harvested from the natural environment, can contain high concentrations of potentially harmful elements and minerals. In this study, mineralogical and geochemical investigation of geophagic rock materials consumed by the local population in Baringo town, in Kenya, was conducted to assess its possible health effects. Twelve representative samples were purchased from an open market in Baringo town for this investigation. Optical and scanning electron microscope as well as X-ray diffractometer was used to determine the mineralogy as well as the morphology of the minerals present in the studied samples. The material is composed of about 10 to 20% coarse to very coarse (0.38-3.00 mm) and semi-rounded to angular crystals of quartz, feldspars, and amphiboles, together with lithic fragments occurring in a fine-grained matrix. X-ray fluorescence and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry were used to determine the major and trace elements composition, respectively. The analyses show that elements such as Si, Fe, Mn, Al, Hg, Cr, Cd, and Pb are particularly above their recommended daily allowances. This study assumes 100% bioavailability of elements in the geophagic materials, in the absence of a bioaccessibility test. Therefore, the consumption of some of the revealed elements, based on this assumption, can be detrimental due to possible short- and/or long-term health effects. From a mineralogical point of view, the presence of feldspar and quartz with Moh's hardness of 6 and 7, respectively, and their coarse and angular morphology may cause damage to the dental enamel and the gastrointestinal tract. From a geochemical point of view, the high concentrations of the revealed chemical elements can have various health effects including, but not limited to neurotoxic effects, which are critical in prenatal exposure, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer amongst other serious diseases., (© 2021. In this study, laser ablation–multicollector–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (LA–MC–ICP–MS) of apatites and LA–ICP–MS of zircons are used to collect U–Pb geochronological data, Rb–Sr isotope chronology is used to analyze alkaline feldspar and plagioclase, and archival apatite geochemistry data for the exposed Naitoushan basalt and Heishigou dike in the Changbaishan Tianchi volcano (CTV) are accessed to examine the petrogenesis and determine the origin of basaltic magmatism in the CTV. The Naitoushan basalt and Heishigou dike formed at 22.2–18.7 and 0.230–0.218 Ma, respectively. In situ oxides, volatiles, trace element geochemistry and Sr–Nd isotopes of apatite are reported for two samples. Most apatites are in the early crystallization phase and form inclusions in plagioclase that are euhedral or subhedral. They have higher MgO and K2O/Na2O concentrations; lower F and Cl concentrations; Ba, Sr, Nb, Ta, Zr, Hf, K, and Ti depletion; and Th, U, Ce, Pb, P, and Nd enrichment. All apatite samples are enriched in light rare earth elements (REEs) relative to heavy REEs and have relatively homogeneous Th/U, Zr/Hf, La/Sm, and Nd/Tb ratios and Sr–Nd isotopic compositions; thus, their host magmas potentially have the same magmatic origin as oceanic island basalt. The apatite La, Yb, and U contents, Eu/Eu* and La/Yb values, and high REE contents show a weak crystallization sequence in the mafic magma. This study demonstrates that the pre-shield and post-shield mafic magmas in the CTV were likely derived from an enriched mantle source with an I-type signature related to the rollback of the Pacific plate. Uzbekistan (Central Asia) is experiencing serious water stress as a consequence of altered climate regime, past over-exploitation, and dependence from neighboring countries for water supply. The Chirchik–Akhangaran drainage basin, in the Tashkent province of Uzbekistan, includes watersheds from the Middle Tien Shan Mountains escarpments and the downstream floodplain of the Chirchik and Akhangaran rivers, major tributaries of the Syrdarya river. Water in the Chirchik–Akhangaran basin is facing potential anthropogenic pressure from different sources at the scale of river reaches, from both industrial and agricultural activities. In this study, the major and trace element chemistry of surface water and groundwater from the Chirchik–Akhangaran basin were investigated, with the aim of addressing the geogenic and anthropogenic contributions to the dissolved load. The results indicate that the geochemistry of water from the upstream catchments reflects the weathering of exposed lithologies. A significant increase in Na+, K+, SO42−, Cl−, and NO3− was observed downstream, indicating loadings from fertilizers used in croplands. However, quality parameters suggest that waters are generally suitable for irrigation purposes, even if the total dissolved solid indicates a possible salinity hazard. The concentration of trace elements (including potentially toxic elements) was lower than the thresholds set for water quality by different regulations. However, an exceedingly high concentration of Zn, Mo, Sb, Pb, Ni, U, As, and B compared with the average river water worldwide was observed. Water in a coal fly-ash large pond related to the Angren coal-fired power plants stands out for the high As, Al, B, Mo, and Sb concentration, having a groundwater contamination potential during infiltration. Spring waters used for drinking purposes meet the World Health Organization and the Republic of Uzbekistan quality standards. However, a surveillance of such drinking-water supplies is suggested. Thick coal seams recorded abundant petrological, geochemical, and mineralogical information regarding their formation, which in turn can reflect the characteristics of the coal-forming environments, provenance attributes, paleoclimate, and so on. In order to explore the geochemical and lead isotope characteristics of thick coal seams, the No. 7 coal seam in the Datun mining area, Jiangsu Province of China, was selected as the research object. In this work, 29 samples (including coal, roof, and floor rock samples) were collected from three coal mines in the Datun mining area. Through an analysis of the mineral composition and element geochemical characteristics in the coal samples, the enrichment degree of trace elements and modes of rare earth elements were determined. The genetic mechanism of abnormal enrichment of enriched elements is discussed, especially the modes of occurrence and isotope characteristics of Pb. The results showed the following: (1) The main minerals in the coal samples include quartz, potassium feldspar, plagioclase, calcite, dolomite, pyrite, gypsum, and clay minerals, with clay minerals, calcite, quartz, and dolomite being the most common. (2) The major element oxides in coal mainly include SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, MgO, CaO, Na2O, K2O, TiO2, P2O5, and FeO. In the vertical direction, the variation of SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, MgO, K2O, and FeO in coal samples from the three coal mines is consistent. The average value of Al2O3/TiO2 in the samples of Kongzhuang, Longdong, and Yaoqiao coal mines is 28.09–50.52, which basically locates the samples in the felsic source area, such that the sediment source is considered to be felsic source rock. (3) Elements U, La, Pb, and other elements are more enriched in Kongzhuang coal mine samples; elements Th, U, La, Pb, and other elements are more enriched in the Longdong coal mine samples; and elements Th, U, La, Pb, and other elements are more enriched in the Yaoqiao coal mine samples. Furthermore, W is enriched in Yaoqiao mine samples and is highly enriched in Longdong mine samples. The mining area is generally rich in the elements U, La, and Pb. The distribution curves of rare earth elements in the three mines are inclined to the right, with negative Eu anomalies. The enrichment is of the light rare earth enrichment type. (4) Pb isotope data show that the samples from the three mines are mainly distributed in the orogenic belt and the subduction zone lead source areas, where the upper crust and the mantle are mixed, with individual sample points distributed in the mantle and upper crust lead source areas. Mantle plumes related to Large Igneous Provinces have been linked to continental break‐up and validated by the outpouring of mafic‐ultramafic magmas that range from continental flood basalt magmatism to submarine plateau volcanism. This study presents a new set of geochemical and mineralogical data on mafic magmatic rocks from the Sylhet Trap of the Shillong Plateau, northeast India. The investigated mafic rocks (basalt and dolerite) are predominantly sub‐alkaline‐tholeiitic, composed of bytownite+labradorite and diopside+augite, with ophitic to sub‐ophitic and glomeroporphyritic textures, the dark interstitial region of much finer grains consisting of opaque minerals and devitrified glass. The mafic rocks of Sylhet Trap show light rare earth elements enrichment with (La/Yb)N ratio (1.92–2.86) and (La/Sm)N ratio (1.11–1.40), an almost flat pattern of heavy rare earth elements along with mild europium anomalies (Eu/Eu*= 0.94–1.11). Trace element characteristics suggest their affinity towards enriched mid‐oceanic ridge basalt and generated from low degree of partial melting of spinel source with minor involvement of crustal contamination. The similarity in geochemical characteristics of the investigated mafic rocks with the magmatism of Rajmahal Traps, eastern Peninsular India, Abor Volcanics, eastern Himalaya, along with Bunbury Basalt of western Australia and Cona Mafic exposed in southeastern Tibet, suggests their genetic linkage with mantle plume activities. Thus, we argue that the magmatic event of the Sylhet Trap is related to the Kerguelen mantle plume activity that played a significant role in the fragmentation of eastern Gondwana during the Lower Cretaceous period, giving rise to Greater India, Antarctica and northwest Australia. The article focuses on Oligocene and Miocene blowtorch volcanism within the California Borderland and its influence on the plate-boundary transition. It details the methods for sample collection, including ROV deployments and geological analyses, and presents results from 40Ar/39Ar age determinations and whole rock geochemistry. It also includes a regional plate motion model constructed using GPlates software.

Identifying source orogens for syn-orogenic sediments in dispersed fragments of a supercontinent provides key information on the tectonic evolution of the orogens involved in supercontinent assembly and on paleogeographic reconstruction. An approach using U-Pb geochronology and trace elements of multiple detrital minerals including zircon, rutile, apatite, and monazite has major advantages over detrital zircon studies alone. Application of this multi-pronged approach to Ediacaran and Cambrian clastic sedimentary rocks from the West Cathaysia terrane of the South China block demonstrates that these rocks were deposited in two distinct, but overlapping, syn-orogenic basins related to the assembly of eastern Gondwana. The Ediacaran rocks have detritus likely sourced from the Paterson Petermann orogen (PPO) in Australia, and the dominant 650–600 Ma populations and trace element compositions of detrital rutile and apatite indicate a significant Ediacaran thermal and high-pressure metamorphic event in the orogen. The appearance of Cambrian and Tonian detrital rutile and apatite populations in the Cambrian rocks indicates derivation from a different source orogen characterized by multiple thermal events, most likely the Kuunga-Pinjarra orogen (KPO). Our data suggest that West Cathaysia was located adjacent to both the PPO and the KPO and support the hypothesis that the PPO was a collisional, rather than a long-lived post-Grenvillian intraplate, orogen. Our data also suggest a poly-metamorphic history for the poorly preserved northern part of the KPO and a larger expanse of Greater India. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Cornubian Batholith (SW England) is an archetypal Variscan rare metal granite with potential for Li-mica mineralization. We present a petrographic, trace element and multivariate statistical study of micas from the Cornubian Batholith granite series and related hydrothermally altered units to assess the role of magmatic vs subsolidus processes and of fluxing elements (F and B) on the Li cycle during the evolution of the system. The mica types are as follows: (1) magmatic, which include Fe-biotite, protolithionite I and phengite-muscovite from the most primitive granites, and zinnwaldite I from more fractionated lithologies; (2) subsolidus, which encompass high-temperature autometasomatic Li-micas and low-temperature hydrothermal muscovite-phengite. Autometasomatic species include protolithionite II, zinnwaldite II and lepidolite, which were observed in the most fractionated and hydrothermally altered units, and occur as replacements of magmatic micas. Low-temperature hydrothermal Li-poor micas formed via alteration of magmatic and autometasomatic micas or as replacement of feldspars, and albeit occur in all studied lithologies they are best represented by the granite facies enriched in metasomatic tourmaline. The evolution of micas follows two major trends underlining a coupling and decoupling between the Li(F) and B fluxes. These include as follows: (1) a Li(F)-progressive trend explaining the formation of protolithionite I and zinnwaldite I, which fractionate Li along with Cs, Nb and Sn during the late-magmatic stages of crystallization, and of zinnwaldite II and lepidolite forming from the re-equilibration of primary micas with high-temperature Li-B-W-Tl-Cs-Mn-W-rich autometasomatic fluids; (2) a Li(F)-retrogressive trend explaining the low-temperature hydrothermal muscovitization, which represents the main Li depletion process. Trace element geochemistry and paragenesis of late muscovite-phengite support that muscovitization is a district-scale process that affected the upper parts of the granite cupolas through acidic and B(Fe-Sn)-saturated hydrothermal fluids associated with metasomatic tourmalinization, which were mixed with a low Eh meteoric component. This research investigates the present status and decadal variability of element distributions in the marine sediments off Doha, on the east coast of Qatar. Twenty elements were considered from 11 sediment sampling stations and 3 dust sampling stations by grouping them into major elements, toxic elements, and other trace elements. The results show elevated concentrations of certain toxic and trace elements, including Ba, Be, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, V, Zn, Mg, and Ti, in the nearshore region, primarily influenced by the settling of dissolved elements under weak hydrodynamic circulations in the Doha Bay. The relatively higher currents in offshore enable quick advection and dispersion of the elements. On the other hand, the dust deposits have caused significant contributions to the Al, As, Mg, Ca, Sr, Fe, Zn, and Cd concentrations. Decadal variability is evident in element concentrations, which are linked to the urbanisation of the capital city in the State of Qatar. The Cu, Ni, V, Zn, and Cd concentrations indicate a notable increase in recent years compared to the last two decades, with values of about 20.7, 17.9, 25.0, 25.9, 0.66 ppm in 2022. In contrast, a few other elements fluctuate between the decades/years. The results pointed out the increased elemental concentrations in the bay due to the vast expansion of infrastructure facilities in the vicinity of Doha Bay in recent years. The Geoaccumulation Index resulted in a slight pollution of Cd, while other elements are unpolluted. The Barroso–Alvão region is an excellent setting for studying Li mineralization associated with granitic pegmatites and developing Li exploration techniques. Among the distinguished pegmatite types in this pegmatite field, the spodumene-bearing dyke from Alijó is a representative example of an Iberian Li–Cs–Ta (LCT) pegmatite currently under exploitation. In this work, we examine the internal evolution of the Alijó dyke and its external metasomatic effect on the surrounding metasediments, contributing to lithium exploration techniques. Electron microprobe analyses provided clues about the crystallization conditions and the degree of differentiation of the pegmatitic melt, whereas the external metasomatism induced by the spodumene-bearing pegmatite was studied through whole-rock geochemistry. The obtained results indicate that the primary crystallization of the studied dyke likely occurred at temperatures between 450–500 °C, with emplacement at shallow crustal levels of about 2–3 kbar. The high concentrations of trace elements such as Li, Cs, Rb, Be, Sn, Nb, Ta, Ge, U, and Tl in the pegmatitic melt suggests high availability of these elements, allowing their partitioning into an early exsolved fluid phase. The exsolution of this fluid phase, subtracting components such as F and B, from the pegmatitic melt would cause a significant undercooling of the melt. Moreover, the interaction of this expelled fluid with the country rock generated a metasomatic overprint in the surrounding metasedimentary host rocks. The metasomatic effect in Alijó is strongly influenced by the nature of the host metasediments, with a significantly higher grade of metasomatism observed in pelitic (mica-rich) samples compared to psammitic (mica-poor) samples collected at same distances from the dyke. The greisen developed close to the pegmatite contact reflects this metasomatic signature, characterized by the mobilization of at least B, F, Li, Rb, Cs, Sn, Be, Nb, Ta, and Tl. We cautiously suggest that whole rock Li concentrations greater than 300 ppm, combined with a minimum value of 1000 ppm for the sum of B, F, Li, Rb, Cs, and Sn in pelitic metasediments of Barroso–Alvão, may be indicative of a mineralized pegmatite in this region. Research of the depositional environment using geological mapping, petrography, gamma-ray (GR) log, palynology, and foraminifera fossils of the Bojongmanik Formation has led to the formation of several different conclusions about the transition to the marine environment, which are attractive to revisit. The expected results of this research are to determine the paleoenvironment of the Bojongmanik and Serpong Formations based on elemental geochemistry, the development of paleoenvironment proxies based on portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) in fluvial to transitional environments studies, and the contribution of paleoenvironment analysis to GR-log facies interpretation. The research methodology starts with GR-log facies analysis, Pearson's correlation, paleoenvironment analysis based on elemental affinity and elemental ratio, and comparing the paleoenvironment with GR-log-based facies. The paleoenvironment analysis based on elemental geochemistry resulted in the Bojongmanik Formation in the research area deposited at the tidal point bar, lagoon, and shoreface, while the Serpong Formation was deposited at the fluvial point bar and floodplain. Compared to previous research, the Bojongmanik Formation in the research area could be stratigraphically related to the upper Bojongmanik Formation. Proxies based on elemental geochemical affinities of carbonate-associated, carbonate-productivity, terrigenous-associated elements, and redox-sensitive trace elements show contrast changes between facies. Proxies based on the specific ratio show a detailed paleoenvironment for paleoclimate (Sr/Cu), paleosalinity (Sr/Ba), paleoredox (Cu/Zn), paleo-hydrodynamics and water depth (Zr/Rb and Fe/Mn), sediment provenance (Cr/Zr), and siliciclastic-dominated (Zr + Rb)/Sr. Adding a geochemistry element-based paleoenvironment analysis benefits from a more specific justification for GR-log facies interpretation. We present a geochemical dataset and cathodoluminescence images of apatite from the Neoarchean (2610 Ma) glimmerite-carbonatite rocks from the Siilinjärvi complex, Eastern Finland. The subhedral, tapered prismatic grains are compositionally fluorapatite, with limited substitution of Ca by Sr, Na and low REE and Si contents. The Sr/Y ratios are among the highest in a global apatite comparison, comparable to those from other calcite carbonatites, dolomite carbonatites, and phoscorites. Some grains show evidence of late- or post-magmatic interaction with a carbonatite magma or a hydrothermal fluid, resulting in REE-rich overgrowth rims or recrystallized grains with abundant fluid inclusions. We interpret the high Sr/Y ratios combined with low REE contents and depleted heavy REE+Y to represent crystallization from a mantlederived carbonatite parental magma. We show that the Siilinjärvi apatite is chemically heterogeneous but with a limited range in compositions. There are noticeable compositional differences on all spatial scales from micrometer to tens of meters, i.e., within a single crystal, between crystals in a sample, between samples and the two individual sampling locations. We conclude that the intra-crystal geochemical variability in apatite is a suitable tracer of the magmatic and post-magmatic evolution of carbonatite complexes.

Meso-Neoarchean fuchsite quartzites are present in different stratigraphic positions of Dharwar Craton including the oldest (~ 3.3 Ga) Sargur Group of western Dharwar Craton. The present study deals with the petrographic and geochemical characteristics of the fuchsite quartzites from the Ghattihosahalli belt to evaluate their genesis, depositional setting and the enigma involved in the ancient sedimentation history. Their major mineral assemblages include quartz, fuchsite, and feldspars along with accessory kyanite and rutile. The geochemical compositions are characterized by high SiO2, Al2O3, low MgO, CaO, strongly enriched Cr (1326–6899 ppm), Ba (1165–3653 ppm), Sr (46–210 ppm), V (107–868 ppm) and Zn (11–158 ppm) contents compared to the upper continental crust (UCC). The UCC normalized rare earth element (REE) patterns are characterized by depleted light REE [(La/Sm)UCC = 0.33–0.95] compared to heavy REE [(Gd/Yb)UCC = 0.42– 1.65)] with conspicuous positive Eu-anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 1.35–18.27) characteristic of hydrothermal solutions evidenced through the interlayered barites. The overall major and trace element systematics reflect a combined mafic-felsic provenance and suggest their deposition at a passive continental margin environment. The comprehensive field, petrographic, and geochemical studies indicate that these quartzites are infiltrated by Cr-rich fluids released during high-grade metamorphism of associated ultramafic rocks. The Sargur and the subsequent Dharwar orogeny amalgamated diverse lithounits from different tectonic settings, possibly leading to the release of Cr-rich fluids and the formation of fuchsite quartzite during or after the orogeny. Granulites exposed in high-grade regional metamorphic belts and exhumed as xenoliths in basaltic pipes are considered as window into the deep crust thus play a key role in constraining models of crustal processes and evolution. Here we present a detailed investigation of the tectono-metamorphic history of the two-pyroxene mafic granulite located in the southern region of the Sonapahar area. This involves conducting monazite chemical dating, analyzing petrological and geochemical characteristics, applying geothermobarometry, performing phase equilibria modeling, and tracing a pressure-temperature (P-T) path. Metamorphic P-T conditions estimated for the mafic granulite using conventional thermobarometer and winTWQ shows temperature in excess of 800°C and pressure of about 8.6 kbar, stand for high temperature granulite facies metamorphism. The metamorphic evolution path obtained from P-T pseudosection suggest a clockwise P-T evolution path, thus signify isothermal decompression and indicate rapid upliftment. Geochemical study of trace and rare earth elements (REE), suggest protolith is of tholeiite basalt in nature that is derived from back arc basin setting near to subduction zone. Additionally, the analyzed rock was examined using primitive mantle-normalized trace element spider diagram. The results indicate an enrichment in large-ion lithophile elements (Th, U, K, Pb) and a depletion in high field-strength elements (Nb, Ta, Ti). The presence of negative anomalies in Nb and Ti, coupled with elevated values of Th, K, and Pb, suggests the possibility of crustal contamination. Monazite chemical data from the studied rock reveals a peak metamorphism age of 521.3 ± 4.20 Ma, which corresponds to the Kuunga Orogeny in the later phase of global Pan-African collision. The Hardawu granites in the eastern segment of the ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic belt, the northern Qaidam Basin, were studied by whole-rock major and trace elements and in-situ zircon U-Pb geochronology and Hf isotopes to discuss the petrogenesis and tectonic evolution. Geochronological results show that the granites have a crystallization age of 401 ± 3 Ma, suggesting that they were formed in the Early Devonian. The granites have SiO2 contents of 75.32 wt.%–76.05 wt.%, total alkali contents of 8.23 wt.%–8.36 wt.%, and K2O/Na2O ratios of 1.62–1.91. They were rich in K2O, poor in TiO2, MnO, MgO, and P2O5, and have A/CNK values of 1.05–1.07, Rittmann index δ values of 2.05–2.14, and differentiation index (DI) values of 92.85–94.18. They are high potassium calc-alkaline, weak-peraluminum, and highly differentiated I-type granites. The granites also show enrichment of large ion lithophile elements (LILE) such as Rb, Ba, and Th, and depletion of high field strength elements (HFSE) such as Nb, Ta, and Ti. The total REE concentrations range from 169 ppm to 232 ppm, with enrichments of light rare earth elements and negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.39–0.55). The zircon εHf(t) values range from −0.65 to −2.29, and the two-stage model ages (tDM2) changed within a small range of 1.44 to 1.54 Ga, indicating that the magma of the Hardawu granites was originated from the partial melting of Mesoproterozoic lower crustal materials. Combined with previous studies, we suggest that the Hardawu granites were formed in the extensional tectonic setting after the collision between the Qaidam Block and the central and southern Qilian Block in the Early Devonian. Textural, mineralogical and mineral compositional observations in a suite of Neoproterozoic aillikite and calcite kimberlite dykes from southern West Greenland point to consistent variations in melt major element compositions amongst these silica-undersaturated magma types. The aillikites have notably higher bulk SiO2/CO2, H2O/CO2 and K2O compared to calcite kimberlite. Bulk rock arrays, together with field and petrographic observations, emphasize that flow sorting of olivine and other crystalline phases during magma emplacement is important in controlling the compositions of individual samples from these ultramafic dykes. Flow sorting together with variable overall proportions of entrained lithospheric mantle material result in scatter on element–element plots, which makes the interpretation of regional scale major and trace element geochemical datasets difficult. We argue that a significant proportion of the regional Ni–MgO variation in the ultramafic dyke suite of SW Greenland is due to variation in the proportion of an entrained refractory lithospheric mantle component. Therefore, ratios of elements to MgO can be used as proxies for melt compositions. Ratios of SiO2, TiO2, Al2O3, FeO and K2O over MgO are systematically higher, and CO2/MgO lower, in aillikites compared to calcite kimberlites. The trace element patterns of the calcite kimberlite and aillikite dykes show strong similarities in incompatible element concentrations, resulting in overlapping ratios for the highly to moderately incompatible elements. However, differences in Zr-Hf concentrations between rock types imply differences in mantle source mineralogy. Guided by our observations, we present mixing models that demonstrate that partial flux-melting of phlogopite–ilmenite metasomes within the cratonic mantle lithosphere is capable of produce the geochemical characteristics of aillikites and mela-aillikites in West Greenland. The Weilasituo Li–polymetallic deposit, located on the western slope of the southern Great Xing'an Range in the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt, is hosted by quartz porphyry with crypto-explosive breccia-type Li mineralisation atop and vein-type Sn-Mo-W-Zn polymetallic mineralisation throughout the breccia pipe. This study introduces new data on multistage quartz and mica in situ trace elements; the study was conducted using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and 40Ar/39Ar dating of zinnwaldite to delineate the metallogenic age and genesis of Li mineralisation. Zinnwaldite yields a plateau age of 132.45 ± 1.3 Ma (MSWD = 0.77), representing Early Cretaceous Li mineralisation. Throughout the magmatic–hydrothermal process, quartz trace elements showed Ge enrichment. Li, Al, and Ti contents decreased, with Al/Ti and Ge/Ti ratios increasing, indicating increased magmatic differentiation, slight acidification, and cooling. Mica's rising Li, Rb, Cs, Mg, and Ti contents and Nb/Ta ratio, alongside its falling K/Rb ratio, indicate the magma's ongoing crystallisation differentiation. Fractional crystallisation primarily enriched Li, Rb, and Cs in the late melt. Mica's high Sc, V, and W contents indicate a high fO2 setting, with a slightly lower fO2 during zinnwaldite formation. Greisenisation observed Zn, Mg, and Fe influx from the host rock, broadening zinnwaldite distribution and forming minor Zn vein orebodies later. Late-stage fluorite precipitation highlights a rise in F levels, with fluid Sn and W levels tied to magma evolution and F content. In summary, the Weilasituo Li–polymetallic deposit was formed in an Early Cretaceous extensional environment and is closely related to a nearby highly differentiated Li-F granite. During magma differentiation, rare metal elements such as Li and Rb were enriched in residual melts. The decrease in temperature and the acidic environment led to the precipitation of Li-, Rb-, and W-bearing minerals, and the increased F content in the late stage led to Sn enrichment and mineralisation. The magmatic rocks of the Ben Giang-Que Son complex exposed in the southern part of the Truong Son belt have petrographic compositions including gabbro, gabbrodiorite, granodiorite, and granite. Geochemically, the magmatic rocks are of subalkaline affinity and belong to the high-K calc-alkaline series. All analyzed samples contain hornblende and biotite as mafic minerals and are defined as metaluminous with a aluminum saturation index of <1.1. Chondrite-normalized rare earth element diagrams are characterized by fractionation between light and heavy rare earth elements and show small to moderate negative Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 0.81–0.44). Primitive mantle-normalized trace element patterns exhibit enrichment in LILEs such as Rb, K, U, and especially Pb and depletion of HFSEs (Nb, Ta, and Ti), indicating arc-magma. The BG-QS gabbro and gabbrodiorite have low Cr, Co, and Ni and display enrichment in 87Sr/86Sr (0.7084 to 0.7147), ꜪNd(t) (−0.5 to −1.9), and positive ꜪHf(t) (+2.4 to 4.5), suggesting generation from the enriched mantle source. The BG-QS diorite and granodiorite contain small mafic enclaves, have a wide range of SiO2 contents and enrichment in Sr-Nd isotopes (87Sr/86Sr = 0.7109–0.7178; ꜪNd(t) = −3.3 to −3.7), and display high Mg# (43–51). All these features indicate that they were formed by the mixing of magmas, which originated from an enriched mantle source and the pre-existing juvenile mafic lower crust. The whole-rock Nd and zircon Hf model ages are of 1160–760 Ma. The Ben Giang-Que Son complex yields LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb ages of 285 ± 3.1 and 278 ± 3.5 Ma that corresponds to the Cisuralian epoch (early Permian), which is linked to the subduction and amalgamation of the Indochina and South China blocks due to the closing a branch of the Paleotethys along the Song Ma suture. The sedimentary sequence of the Ninama Basin is associated with the latest phase of the continental Deccan volcanism of the Indian peninsula. It occurs as inter-, intratrappeans with a 39-m thick sequence comprising Sukhbhadar Formation and Ninama Limestone. The investigation aims to reconstruct its depositional setting based on the lithofacies and inorganic geochemistry to understand the influence of paleosalinity, paleoredox, paleodepth, provenance and paleoclimate on the sedimentation pattern. It is characterized by clastic and chemically formed rocks, including shale, mudstone, siltstone, sandstone and limestone. Facies analysis has revealed seven lithofacies, amongst which four are clastic facies, shale (SH), calcareous shale (CSH), silty mudstone (SM) and lithic greywacke (LGW), and three are carbonate facies, namely, grey-black limestone (GBL), cherty limestone (CL) and marlite (ML). Using geochemical analysis of major oxides and trace elements, ratios of Ca/(Ca+Fe), Sr/Ba, V/(V+Ni), V/Cr, Fe/(Ca+Mg), Ti/Al, Na/K, K/(Fe+Mg), CIA-K and MAP were determined and used to interpret and note the changes in the depositional system. The combined results of the lithofacies and geochemistry indicate that the deposition occurred in three phases. Phase 1 is characterized by high energy conditions in the shallow to moderate depth brackish-saline lake with oxic to dysoxic conditions; Phase 2 is characterized by anoxic deep fresh to the brackish water basin; and Phase 3 is characterized by semiarid conditions, saline, anoxic waters, high evaporation leading to shallowing of the lake, and low to moderate terrestrial input. This lacustrine basin in the paleotopographic low of the Deccan Volcanic Province is characterized by distinct lithology governed by various depositional parameters. A composite depositional model is constructed for the Ninama Basin, reflecting three phases of evolution that are dominantly controlled by the paleoenvironment. Research highlights: The present study focuses on lithofacies and inorganic geochemical analysis of Ninama paleolake sediments, Saurashtra intertrappeans, to interpret their paleosalinity, paleoredox, water depth, provenance, detrital influx, and paleoclimate. Phase 1 deposition was initiated in paleotopographic low of Deccan Traps, in an oxic–dysoxic, high-energy turbulent brackish water environment, in humid conditions. Phase 2 characterizes fine-grained clastic facies deposited in anoxic, fresh-brackish, deep lake waters in humid conditions. Phase 3 marks the shallowing, evident by carbonate facies with low-moderate terrestrial input deposited in saline and anoxic paleolake in semiarid conditions with high evaporation and low-moderate precipitation. The Early‐Middle Jurassic is one of the crucial coal‐forming geologic periods in the world and an important target for hydrocarbon exploration in the Turpan‐Hami Basin, China. The paleoenvironment and vegetation reconstruction of the Early‐Middle Jurassic have been investigated using elemental geochemistry and palynological analysis to reveal paleoclimate evolution. A total of 48 genera of pteridophyte spore and 35 genera of gymnosperm pollen were identified, and 5 palynological assemblages were longitudinally divided, which showed significant differences in geochemical behaviours. The paleoenvironment was a transition from suboxidation to anoxia and then to an oxidation environment under freshwater conditions. The paleowater in the northern Taibei Sag was deeper than that in the southern part during the Middle Jurassic, which coincided with the sedimentary background of the sublacustrine fan in the north and the shallow braided river delta in the south. The paleovegetation evolved from mixed lowland–upland forest in the Hettangian‐Toarcian, to lowland fern forest in the Aalenian‐Bajocian, to upland conifers forest in the early Bathonian, to upland Cheirolepidiaceae forest in the late Bathonian‐Callovian. The Toarcian and Bathonian‐Callovian arid climate and the Hettangian‐Pliensbachian and Aalenian‐Bajocian warm‐humid climate were responses to the continued global warming events and the intensification of the East Asian monsoon circulation, respectively. The influence of the Bathonian‐Callovian aridification event on the sedimentary response in the southern Taibei Sag will be delayed due to the gradual southward migration of the depositional centre. The paper reports the study of geochemistry, mineral-phase assemblages of rocks of the Ary-Bulak ongonite massif, compositions of major, minor and accessory minerals (quartz, feldspars, topaz, zinnwaldite, prosopite, rare Ca–Al-fluorides, W-ixiolite, columbite, zircon, cassiterite, and fluocerite), fluoride–calcium (F–Ca) phase, and fluorite formed from it. The rock-forming minerals of porphyritic ongonites are quartz, albite and sanidine, and minor minerals are topaz and zinnwaldite. The ongonitic matrix is composed of a quartz–sanidine–albite assemblage with micron-sized needle-shaped topaz crystals. In transitional porphyritic rocks and in the endocontact aphyric zone, the interstices between matrix minerals are filled with a F–Ca phase formed from a F–Ca (fluoritic) stoichiometric melt. Fluoride–silicate liquid immiscibility in ongonitic magma and fluid-magmatic processes led to the redistribution of REE, Y, and many trace elements between melts, fluids, minerals and a contrasting change in mineral-phase assemblages in the rocks. This is associated with the appearance of M-type (T1La–Nd, T4Er–Lu) and W-type (T3Gd–Ho) tetrad effects in the chondrite-normalized REE patterns of rocks. Degassing of magmatic fluids through the endocontact aphyric zone was accompanied by the crystallization of Sr-bearing prosopite and hydrous Ca–Al-fluorides. Aphyric rocks, compared to porphyritic ongonites and porphyritic transitional rocks, are enriched in H2O, Sr, Ba, Rb, Sn, W, Ta, Be, Zr, Hf, Sb, As, Sc, but contain less Li, Pb, Zn, Y and REE. During the effect of magmatic fluids on rocks enriched in Ca and F, especially in the endocontact aphyric zone, albite was partially or completely replaced by the F–Ca phase and kaolinite, and the F–Ca phase recrystallized into aggregates of micron-sized grains of stoichiometric fluorite without trace elements. Rb-Cs mica also crystallized in the rim of zinnwaldite laths, the zones of which maximally enriched in rubidium with the cation relation Rb > K > Cs may be a new mineral. The geochemistry of the rocks, the features of their mineral-phase assemblages, the compositional evolution of the minerals and the F–Ca phase are a consequence of the formation of the Ary-Bulak massif from ongonitic magma during a fluid-magmatic process complicated by fluoride–silicate liquid immiscibility with the participation of fluoritic and other fluoride melts, as well as magmatic fluids of P–Q and the first types. Garnet is a primary mineral in skarn deposits and plays a significant role in recording copious mineralization and metallogenic information. This study systematically investigates the geochemistry and geochronology of garnet and zircon in the Dafang Au‐Pb‐Zn‐Ag deposit, which represents prominent gold mineralization in southern Hunan, China. Garnet samples with distinct zoning patterns and compositional variations were identified using various analytical techniques, including Backscattered Electron (BSE) imaging, Cathodoluminescence (CL) response, textural characterization, and analysis of rare‐earth elements (REE), major contents, and trace element compositions. The garnet was dated U‐Pb dating, which yielded a lower intercept age of 161.06 ± 1.93 Ma. This age is older than the underlying granodiorite porphyry, which has a concordia age of 155.13 ± 0.95 Ma determined by zircon U‐Pb dating. These results suggest that the gold mineralization may be related to the concealed granite. Two groups of garnet changed from depleted Al garnet to enriched Al garnet, and the rare earth element (REE) patterns of these groups were converted from light REE (LREE)‐enriched and heavy REE (HREE)‐depleted with positive europium (Eu) anomalies to medium REE (MREE)‐enriched from core to rim zoning. The different REE patterns of garnet in various zones may be attributed to changes in the fluid environment and late superposition alteration. The magma sources, origins and precise forming ages of the miarolite from Qishan and Kuiqi intrusions are still uncertain. New results reveal that, miarolites from the Qishan and Kuiqi intrusions yield crystallization ages of ∼101 and ∼98 Ma, and they have a high formation temperature (∼910°C) and low oxygen fugacity value, indicating crystallization condition at low pressure in the upper crust with temperature of 678°C. The Qishan and Kuiqi miarolites are characterized by enrichment in SiO2 and high‐K alkali, depletion in Ca and Mg, and belong to the high‐K weak peraluminous rock series. The samples are enriched in HFSEs (i.e., Ta, Zr and Hf) and LILEs (i.e., Ba, P and Sr), depleted in Ba and Sr with the negative anomaly of Eu. In the primitive mantle normalized trace element spider diagram, the samples show a right‐inclined 'seagull‐type' pattern, combined the ratios of (La/Yb)N, 10000 × Al/Ga, Rb/Nb and Nb/Ta etc., they were proved to be alkaline A‐type granite. Combined the characterize of the trace elements, they were derived from clay‐rich source accompanied pelite melting, and subjected to K‐feldspar crystallization fractional. The values of εHf(t) and tDM2 are distributed in the range of –2.8 to 3.3 with ∼1.2 Ga, and –6.0 to 4.0 with ∼1.2 Ga, revealing that they were generated from the Mesoproterozoic Cathaysia basement rocks. The comprehensive research reveals the Kuiqi and Qishan intrusions derived from crust‐mantle mixing and partial melting of the crust, respectively, resulting from lithospheric extension generated by the Paleo‐Pacific Plate subducted into the European–Asian Plate. Multistage tungsten mineralization was recently discovered in the Mamupu copper‐polymetallic deposit in the southern Yulong porphyry copper belt (YPCB), Tibet. This study reports the results of cathodoluminescence, trace element and Sr isotope analyses of Mamupu scheelite samples, undertaken in order to better constrain the mechanism of W mineralization and the sources of the ore‐forming fluids. Three different types of scheelite are identified in the Mamupu deposit: scheelite A (Sch A) mainly occurs in breccias during the prograde stage, scheelite B (Sch B) forms in the chlorite‐epidote alteration zone in the retrograde stage, while scheelite C (Sch C) occurs in distal quartz sulfide veins. The extremely high Mo content and negative Eu anomaly in Sch A represent high oxygen fugacity in the prograde stage. Compared with ore‐related porphyries, Sch A has a similar REE pattern, but with higher ΣREE, more depleted HREE and slightly lower (87Sr/86Sr)i ratios. These features suggest that Sch A is genetically related to ore‐related porphyries, but extensive interaction with carbonate surrounding rocks affects the final REE and Sr isotopic composition. Sch B shows dark (Sch B‐I) and light (Sch B‐II) domains under CL imaging. From Sch B‐I to Sch B‐II, LREEs are gradually depleted, with MREEs being gradually enriched. Sch C has the highest LREE/HREE ratio, which indicates that it inherited the geochemical characteristics of fluids after the precipitation of HREE‐rich minerals, such as diopside and garnet, in the early prograde stage. The Mo content in Sch B and Sch C gradually decreased, indicating that the oxygen fugacity of the fluids changed from oxidative in the early stages to reductive in the later, the turbulent Eu anomaly in Sch B and Sch C indicating that the Eu anomaly in the Mamupu scheelite is not solely controlled by oxygen fugacity. We investigated the distribution patterns and evaluated the average contents of trace elements in the k7 seam of the Karaganda coal basin in Central Kazakhstan. This paper presents the results of studying the geochemistry of 34 elements in 85 samples of the k7 seam. The study employed a suite of advanced high-resolution analytical methods, including atomic emission spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma (ICP–OES) and mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma (ICP–MS), along with their processing and interpretation. It was determined that the concentrations of trace elements in the k7 seam are primarily associated with lithophile elements, revealing high concentrations of Li, V, Sc, Zr, Hf, and Ba. Additionally, increased concentrations of Nb, Ta, Se, Te, Ag, and Th were observed compared to the coal Clarke. Specific Nb(Ta)–Zr(Hf)–Li mineralization accompanied by a group of associated metals (Ba, V, Sc, etc.) was identified. The study revealed lateral and vertical heterogeneity of the rare elements' distributions in coals, attributed to the formation dynamics of the coal basin. A correlation between Li and Al2O3 with a less positive relationship with K2O suggests the affinity of certain elements (Li, Ta, Nb, and Ba) to kaolinite. Clay layers showed increased radioactivity, with Th—13.2 ppm and U—2.6 ppm, indicating the possible presence of volcanogenic pyroclastic rocks characterized by radioactivity. Taken together, these data reveal the features of the rock composition of the source area, which is considered a mineralization source. According to geochemical data, it was found that the source area mainly consists of igneous felsic rocks, indicating that the formation occurred under conditions of a volcanic arc. This study's novelty lies in estimating the average trace elements in the k7 seam, with elevated concentrations of certain elements that suggest promising prospects for industrial extraction from coals and coal wastes. These findings offer insights into considering coal as a potential source of raw material for rare metal production, guiding the industrial processing of key elements within coal. The Hongtoushan Cu-Zn volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposit, located in the Hunbei granite–greenstone terrane of the North China Craton, has undergone a complex, multi-stage metallogenic evolution. The deposit comprises three main types of massive ores: Type-1 ores, characterized by a sulfide matrix enclosing granular quartz and dark mineral aggregates; Type-2 ores, distinguished by large pyrite and pyrrhotite porphyroblasts and a small amount of gangue minerals; and Type-3 ores, mainly distributed in the contact zone between the ore body and gneiss, featuring remobilized chalcopyrite and sphalerite filling the cracks of pyrite. The metallogenic process of the Hongtoushan deposit is divided into three main stages: (1) an early mineralization stage forming Type-1 massive ores; (2) a metamorphic recrystallization stage resulting in Type-2 massive ores with distinct textural features; and (3) a late-stage mineralization event producing Type-3 massive ores enriched in Cu, Zn, and other metals. This study integrates sulfur isotope, trace elements, and fluid inclusion data to constrain the sources of ore-forming materials, fluid evolution and metallogenic processes of the deposit. Sulfur isotope analyses of sulfide samples yield δ 34 S values ranging from −0.7 to 4.2 (mean: 1.8 ± 1.5, 1 σ), suggesting a predominant magmatic sulfur source with possible contributions from Archean seawater. Trace element analyses of pyrite grains from different ore types reveal a depletion of rare earth elements, Cu, and Zn in Type-2 massive ores due to metamorphic recrystallization, and a subsequent re-enrichment of these elements in Type-3 massive ores. Fluid inclusion studies allowed for identifying three types of ore-forming fluids: Type-1 (avg. T h : 222.9; salinity: 6.74 wt.% NaCl eqv.), Type-2 (avg. T h : 185.72; salinity: 16.56 wt.% NaCl eqv.), and Type-3 (avg. T h : 184.81; salinity: 16.22 wt.% NaCl eqv.), representing a complex evolution involving cooling, water–rock interaction and fluid mixing. This multi-disciplinary study reveals the interplay of magmatic, hydrothermal and metamorphic processes in the formation of the Hongtoushan VMS deposit, providing new insights into the fluid evolution and metallogenic mechanisms of similar deposits in ancient granite–greenstone terranes. The elemental composition of the paint was determined by non-destructive nuclear analytical techniques, namely neutron activation analysis (NAA), charge particle activation analysis (CPAA), and energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF). NAA was chosen as the primary method of analysis as there is no matrix effect, requirement of a small quantity of a sample, detection capability down to ppb level, and self-validation. Ba, Ca, and Cr are detected as the major constituents, whereas Co, Hf, Mn, Y, Sr, Sb, W, Zn and Zr were detected at trace levels in the paint sample by NAA. CPAA was also utilized for the analysis, and elements like Ca, Cr, Fe, Sr, Ti and Zr were detected in the sample. The validation of the analytical results obtained in NAA and CPAA was carried out by the EDXRF technique, in which, including Si, most of the transition and high Z elements like Ca, Cr, Fe, Sr, Zr and Ba were detected. Analysis of variance was carried out to establish the statistical indistinguishability and acceptability of the analytical results obtained by these three methods. Iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) deposits are a vital source of copper and critical elements for emerging clean technologies. Andean-type IOCG deposits form in continental arcs undergoing extension, and they have a temporal relationship with magmatism although they do not exhibit a close spatial relation with the causative intrusions. The processes required to form IOCG deposits and their potential connections to iron oxide–apatite (IOA)-type mineralization remain poorly constrained, as well as the characteristics of magmatism linked to both deposit types. Here we combine zircon U–Pb geochronology with zircon trace element geochemistry of intrusive rocks associated with the Candelaria deposit, one of the world's largest IOCG deposits, to unravel distinctive signatures diagnostic of magmatic fertility. Our results reveal a marked transition in the geochemistry of intrusions in the Candelaria district, characterized by changes in the redox state, water content and temperature of magmas over time. The oldest magmatic stage (~ 128–125 Ma), prior to the formation of the Candelaria deposit, was characterized by zircon Eu/Eu* ratios of 0.20–0.42, and redox conditions of ΔFMQ − 0.4 to + 1.0. The earliest magmatic stage related to the formation of Fe-rich mineralization at Candelaria (118–115 Ma) exhibits low zircon Eu/Eu* ratios (0.09–0.18), low oxygen fugacity values (ΔFMQ ~− 1.8 to + 0.2) and relatively high crystallization temperatures. In contrast, the youngest stage at ~ 111–108 Ma shows higher zircon Eu/Eu* (~ 0.37–0.69), higher oxygen fugacity values (ΔFMQ ~ + 0.4 to + 1.3) and a decrease in crystallization temperatures, conditions that are favorable for the transport and precipitation of sulfur and chalcophile elements. We conclude that Candelaria was formed through two distinct ore-forming stages: the first associated with a reduced, high temperature, water-poor magma developed under a low tectonic stress, followed by a more oxidized, water-rich, and low temperature magmatic event related to a compressional regime. The first event led to Fe-rich and S-poor IOA-type mineralization, while the second event with geochemical signatures similar to those of porphyry copper systems, generated the Cu- and S-rich mineralization. Repeated intrusions of mafic magma have long been known to be a driver of long-lived magmatic systems. Although the importance of mafic recharge of silicic magma systems is well-documented in igneous petrology, the origin of this recharge magma is sometimes obscure. By examining the pre-caldera intermediate dome complexes of the Tschicoma Formation and their relationship to a dacitic recharge event into the Tshirege Member of the Bandelier Tuff, we aim to better understand the origin of mafic recharge events into the Bandelier magma chamber of Valles caldera, and the relationship between different stages of volcanic activity within the broader Jemez Mountains volcanic field (JMVF). Based on major, trace element and radiogenic isotopic data, we divide the Tschicoma Formation into three geochemical groups with similar petrologic evolutionary paths. The Cerro Grande, Cerro Rubio and Pajarito Mountain volcanic dome complexes form group A and have assimilated various amounts of a granitoid crustal component with low εNd, εHf and radiogenic Pb. Group B consists of the Sawyer Dome, Rendija Canyon and Caballo Mountain dome complexes, which have principally evolved through different degrees of fractional crystallization of the same parent magma, itself a result of complex interactions of a mafic mantle-derived magma with the crust. The dacite domes and flows around Tschicoma Peak and the newly described Cañada Bonita dacite form group C and are the result of mixing of Rendija Canyon magma with mafic recharge magma which is preserved as distinct mafic enclaves. At a later stage of the JMVF, during the eruption of the Tshirege Member, distinctive hornblende–dacite pumices formed as a result of the influx of more mafic recharge magma into the system, which mobilized a pre-existing dacite intrusion and injected it into the Tshirege rhyolite (Stimac , 1996 ; Boro , et al. 2020). Based on trace element and isotopic compositions, we propose that dacite which was injected into the Tshirege magma chamber was related to the earlier-erupted Tschicoma Formation and itself represents a mixing product of Tshirege rhyolite and a precursor to the Tschicoma dacites. This implies that the Tschicoma magmatic system was long-lived yet dormant during the eruption of the Otowi Member of the Bandelier Tuff, then was reactivated shortly before the Tshirege eruption, temporarily co-existing and interacting with the Bandelier system as it erupted. The 17.44 Ma Walgidee Hills lamproite in the West Kimberley province of Western Australia is the type locality for several K-, Ba- and Ti-rich minerals characteristic of lamproites and, at 490 ha, the largest known lamproite. The Walgidee Hills pipe comprises a thin sequence of tuffs and breccia formed by explosive eruptions that excavated a large shallow crater that was infilled by lamproite magma which cooled and crystallised in situ. The lamproite is zoned in grain size, mineralogy, and mineral and rock composition from porphyritic olivine lamproite at the margin through medium-grained lamproite comprised of olivine (altered), titanian phlogopite, diopside, leucite (altered) and titanian potassic richterite to coarse gained lamproite rich in potassic richterite, priderite, jeppeite, perovskite, apatite, wadeite and noonkanbahite at the centre of the body. Compositional zoning is evident across the lamproite in phlogopite (to lower Mg and Al, higher Fe), potassic richterite (to higher Fe and Na, lower Ti), priderite (to lower Cr) and perovskite (to lower Cr and Fe, higher Na, Sr, Y, Nb, U, REE). The Walgidee Hills lamproite is ultrapotassic and ranges from olivine lamproite (up to ~21 wt % MgO, ~800 μg/g Ni, ~4 wt % K2O) to sanidine/leucite-rich lamproite (~7 wt % MgO, ≤100 μg/g Ni, ~8 wt % K2O) at the centre of the pipe. The lamproite has low Al2O3, total Fe, Na2O and CaO (except for intensely carbonate-veined rocks at the centre) and is highly enriched in TiO2 (3–6.5 wt %), Ba, Rb, Sr, Zr and LREE (LaN = 150–520 x primitive mantle). A transect and geochemical contours show MgO, Ni and Cr contents decrease and P, K, Ti, Fe, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, REE, Hf, Pb, Th and U abundances increase inwards to the most evolved rocks at the centre of the pipe, consistent with fractionation by inwards in situ crystallisation. The parent magma is estimated from the composition of the porphyritic olivine lamproite at the margins of the pipe to have ~16 ± 1 wt % MgO, ~600 μg/g Ni, ~6 wt % K2O with La/Yb ~ 150. Modelling suggests that the most MgO-rich lamproites result from entrainment of ~15–20 wt % mantle olivine in the parent magma. Cooling of the magma resulted in fractional crystallisation of olivine and in situ crystallisation with the evolved coarse-grained lamproites at the centre of the pipe crystallised from residual magma enriched in the more incompatible elements. Mantle xenocrysts include abundant Cr–Al spinel, chrome diopside, chrome pyrope, and rare diamond. Thermobarometry on the Cr diopside xenocrysts defines a cold paleogeotherm of ~38 mW/m2 and a thick lithosphere (~235 km) extending from the Kimberley craton. Many of the Cr diopsides from the deeper lithospheric mantle are enriched in K, Ba and LREE and these, and the Ti-rich spinel xenocrysts, are inferred to be derived from metasomatised mantle peridotite. The enriched trace element and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic signatures of the Walgidee Hills lamproite suggest derivation from or extensive incorporation of ancient formerly depleted lithospheric mantle that has undergone metasomatism and long term (≥2 Ga) geochemical enrichment including by melts from Paleoproterozoic subducted crust. Primary studies of the concentrations of rare elements in the sediments of two lakes on King George Island (Kitezh and Glubokoe) showed that their geochemistry reflects the geological features of the area. Compared to the composition of the upper part of the Earth's crust, the studied sediments are enriched in Cu, Cd, V, Tl, Mn, Ti, and P. Similar patterns have been identified in the geochemistry of volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Fildes Peninsula. Trends in REE changes generally follow their behavior in rocks, but the overall REE concentration in sediments of lakes is higher, which may be due to the presence of organic matter accumulating in sediments of water bodies. Unlike the aquatic environment, the chemical composition of sediments does not reflect the significant influence of the activities of polar stations. This study aims to investigate the effects of parent rock and minerals on lateritic weathering. The study presents X-ray diffraction (XRD), whole-rock geochemistry, and Nd-Sr isotopic data for examining two profiles, 10 and 12 m thick, respectively, that illustrate the regional tropical weathering status in the Midwest of Brazil. The profiles, developed from metasedimentary and sedimentary rocks, are constituted by saprolite, mottled horizon, lateritic duricrust, and oxisol. Across the profiles, the minerals controlling the weathering geochemistry are muscovite, microcline, quartz, kaolinite, hematite, goethite, and gibbsite. Red and yellow zones in the saprolite and mottled horizon as well as the lateritic duricrust with breccia/fragmental, pisolitic, and oolitic textures make profile 1 more complex. In contrast, profile 2 has an oxisol that mantles the homogeneous vermiform lateritic duricrust. Fe2O3, accumulated during surface weathering, is a potent element in the geochemical profile control since it forms the harder goethite to hematite lateritic duricrust, bearing most of the trace elements (As, Cu, Cs, Pb, Sc, Sr, Th, U, V, and Zn) with similar ionic radii and electrovalence. The LREE have affinity for the elements of the Fe2O3 group of the lateritic duricrust. On the other hand, the K2O group together with Zr and TiO2 e in the phyllite, saprolite, and mottled horizon of profile 1, are associated with the HREE. Additionally, in profile 2, the HREE are mostly associated with the Al2O3 group and the residual minerals in the oxisol. The indication that REE is associated with phosphates, zircon, rutile/anatase, cereanite, and muscovite/illite, which have variable weathering behavior, caused the REE fractionation to occur across and between the profiles. Despite the REE fractionation, the ƐNd(0) values along the profiles consistently maintain the signature of the parent rock. Muscovite and microcline weathering, in profiles 1 and 2, respectively, control the decrease in 87Sr/86Sr signatures of both profiles and the distinct radiogenic ratios. The development of lateritic duricrust in both profiles indicates a similar weathering intensity, although the gibbsite–kaolinite predominance in the oxisol of profile 2 highlights a geochemical reorganization under humid conditions, as well as near-intense soluble silica leaching. Pressure–temperature estimates of a xenolith found within a post-obduction granodiorite in southern New Caledonia provide evidence for subcrustal, granulite facies, peak crystallisation conditions (ca. 850 °C—8.5 ± 1.0 kbar), followed by isobaric cooling to 700 °C, and final decompression with partial rehydration at ca. 650 °C—3.5 kbar. The xenolith, dated at 24.7 Ma (U-Pb zircon), i.e., the same age as the granodiorite host rock, has low SiO2 (35.5 wt%) and high Al2O3 (33.2 wt%) contents, suggesting that it is the restite of a previous melting episode, while the elevated Ca (Ba and Sr) contents suggest mantle metasomatism. Although the concentrations of Rb, K, Ca, Ba, and Sr have been strongly modified, some geochemical (REE patterns and some "immobile" trace element ratios) and isotopic (Sr and Nd isotopic ratios, U-Pb zircon age) characteristics of the granulite facies xenolith are similar to those of the xenoliths found in other Late Oligocene intrusions in southern New Caledonia; therefore, this rock is interpreted to be related to an early magmatic episode. The rock protolith was emplaced and equilibrated at the base of the crust where it underwent ductile deformation. Younger ascending magma picked it up and they eventually crystallised together at a shallow crustal level, near the tectonic sole of the ophiolite. The recrystallisation and ductile deformation at ~8.5 kbar suggest that a rheological discontinuity existed at about 25–28 km, probably representing the Moho. It is concluded that a continental crust of normal thickness must have existed beneath New Caledonia at about 24 Ma, i.e., 10 Ma after obduction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Modeling the behavior of trace elements during lunar magma ocean solidification is important to further our understanding of the chemical evolution of the Moon. Lunar magma ocean evolution models rely on consistent datasets on how trace elements partition between a lunar silicate melt and coexisting minerals at different pressures, temperatures, and redox conditions. Here we report new experimental trace element partition coefficients (D) between clinopyroxene (cpx), pigeonite, orthopyroxene, plagioclase, olivine (ol), and silicate melt at conditions relevant for the lunar magma ocean. The data include Dcpx−melt at ambient and high pressures (1.5 GPa and 1310 °C), and partition coefficients at ambient pressure for pig, opx, ol, and pl. Overall, clinopyroxene is a phase that may control the fractionation of key geochemical trace element ratios, such as Lu/Hf and Sm/Nd, during the evolution of the lunar magma ocean. We explore the impact of the new silicate Dmineral−melt on the trace element evolution of the lunar magma ocean and we find that accessory phosphate minerals, such as apatite or whitlockite are of critical importance to explain the observed trace element and isotopic signature of the KREEP reservoir on the Moon. The new partition coefficients were applied to calculate the trace element evolution of the residual melts of the crystallizing lunar magma ocean and we propose a new trace element composition for the urKREEP reservoir. Sedimentary manganese (Mn) deposits in the southeastern Yangtze Platform of China have been newly discovered with considerable potential for resource exploration. Such deposits formed due to dynamic changes in the global environment, including the break-up of the supercontinent Rodinia, Snowball Earth glaciation, and the Neoproterozoic Oxygenation Event. The Mn-bearing sequences are hosted in the basal Datangpo Formation and are interbedded with black carbonaceous shale in a series of graben sub-basins in the Nanhua Rift Basin. We investigated the origin of these Mn deposits by analysing the major and trace elements, total organic carbon, and stable carbon and oxygen isotopes. Positive Eu anomalies were observed, indicating that the Mn was derived from a hydrothermal system. Redox-related elements, including Ce, Mo, U, V, S, and P, indicated that the depositional environment of the Mn layers was oxidative and that Mn2+ was initially oxidized to Mn oxides. However, the host rock (i.e. black carbonaceous shale) was deposited under dysoxic – anoxic and even sulfidic water conditions. The alternating distribution of Mn ore and host rock suggested alternating redox conditions in the sub-basins. A negative correlation between the Mn content and δ13Ccarb values (−10‰–−7‰) and a deficiency of sulphide minerals indicate that the diagenetic degradation of organic matter (δ13Corg from − 34‰ to − 31.9‰) took place through Mn oxide reduction rather than microbial sulphate reduction and can contribute to a considerable source of bicarbonates. The approximately homogeneous δ13Ccarb depletion and their apparent discrepancy with δ13Corg indicate that the post-depositional genesis of the Mn carbonate ore occurred in a relatively open early diagenetic pore water system with a considerable contribution from seawater-derived carbon sources. This study aims to determine the depositional setting and deposit type of the Ereen deposit in the Bayanjargalan soum of Dundgovi province and the Dartsagt deposit in the Dalanjargalan soum of Dornogovi province, Mongolia. Both deposits are hosted within the sediments of the Neoproterozoic Oortsog Formation. The ore-hosted Oortsog Formation consists of shale with muscovite-sericite-magnetite-quartz and marbled limestone. The former is characterzid by gray to black shaly texture. Major, minor and trace elements composition of 16 ore samples of these two deposits were analyzed by XRF, ICP-MS and ICP-OES. The total iron (TFe) contents of the ore samples from the Ereen deposit range from 28.83 to 51.09 wt% with an average of 41.92 wt% whereas the TFe contents of the Dartsagt deposit from 37.61 to 49.78 wt% with an average of 43.15 wt%. In the Post-Archean Australian Shale (PAAS)-normalized REY diagram, the samples from the Ereen and the Dartsagt deposits show a weakly LREE depleted and HREE weakly enriched trend. Also, in the chondrite-normalized REY diagram, negative Eu anomaly Y-enriched trend are observed. The Eu/Eu*SN values of the Ereen deposit (0.93 to 1.25, average 1.08) and the Dartsagt deposit range from 0.93 to 1.25 (avg. 1.08) and from 1.05 to 1.61 (avg. 1.22), respectively. These trace elements characteristics indicate that these two deposits belong to the Superior-type BIF deposit formed on the passive continental margin and are not likely to be associated with volcanogenic rocks. We report the whole-rock major and trace element and Sr – Nd – Pb isotopic compositions of volcanic rocks from the Nansatsu area in South Kyushu. We analysed samples from the Oldest stage (middle Miocene), Older stage (late Miocene), and Middle stage (early Pliocene) Nansatsu volcanic rocks, which are andesite to dacite in composition, with an island-arc trace element signature. The compositional variabilities within the Older and the Middle stage rocks are relatively small compared to those in the Oldest stage and Quaternary volcanic rocks. Isotopic characteristics suggested that the Oldest stage volcanic rocks had magma sources similar to regional ilmenite-series granitoids of later ages (Outer Zone granitoids), which incorporated a substantial amount of graphite-bearing accretionary sediments (Shimanto Supergroup). The sources for the Older and Middle stage magmas were similar to those of primary Quaternary basalts in South Kyushu, indicating that Pliocene and Quaternary volcanic rocks in South Kyushu share a common mantle source, despite the change in the nature of volcanic activity from andesite-dominated to more variable volcanism of basalt to rhyolite. The McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica provide a testbed for alteration processes on Mars due to the cold, arid, and windy conditions. Analysis of three sediment cores collected from Don Juan Basin, Wright Valley, Antarctica, reveals that surface sediment formation is primarily dominated by physical alteration. Chemical alteration occurs sporadically in this region and is frequently indicated by the accumulation of sulfates and Cl-bearing salts. We investigated the effects of physical and chemical alteration in Don Juan Basin by considering major and trace element abundances in the sediments based on depth and location. Our results indicate inversely related chemical- and physical-alteration gradients with proximity to Don Juan Pond where the current center of the pond represents a more chemically altering environment and the perimeter a more physically altering one. Comparing calculated sulfate abundances for Don Juan Basin cores to rock and soil samples taken by the rover Curiosity at Gale crater, we observed that the core from within Don Juan Pond best matches Curiosity soil sulfate abundances. A new Chemical Index of Alteration equation that adjusts for salt dilution was also applied to the Antarctic cores and Curiosity rocks and soils. Our analysis indicates a significantly higher degree of chemical alteration than originally reported for most Antarctic and martian samples. Our investigation provides evidence for aqueous-based chemical alteration under cold, hyperarid conditions in Don Juan Basin, Antarctica. Our work also demonstrates the analogous nature of terrestrial microenvironments to similar, local-scale sample sites on Mars, thereby supporting past or present chemical alteration on Mars. This study delves into the geochemical dispersion of gold-bearing quartz veins in the Wadi Abu Khusheiba area, southern Jordan, with a focus on uncovering the complex patterns of mineralization and their geological significance. Employing an in-depth geochemical analysis of 24 rock samples from the region, we identified that these samples are predominantly hosted by oversaturated rhyolitic rocks, characterized by high SiO2 content and abundant free Quartz and orthoclase minerals. The mineralized zone of the quartz veins is particularly notable for its gold and silver concentrations, with maximum values reaching up to 5 ppm for gold and 18 ppm for silver. Our investigation into the elemental correlations revealed nuanced relationships, dependent on the 21 sample and analyzed at confidence level of (85%). Contrary to initial assumptions, we did not find a significant positive correlation between gold (Au) and arsenic (As), nor significant negative correlations between gold and other trace elements. These insights are critical for understanding the geochemical behavior of gold in the area and offer a nuanced view of elemental associations. The results of this study are significant for both academic research and practical exploration. They enhance our comprehension of the geological history and mineralization processes in Wadi Abu Khusheiba, providing valuable data that can inform future exploration strategies and deepen our understanding of mineral deposition in similar geological settings.
