Sample holders for transmission electron microscopy (TEM) based on micro‐electro‐mechanical systems (MEMS) have recently become popular for investigating the behavior of nanomaterials under in situ or environmental conditions. The accuracy and reproducibility of these in situ holders are essential to ensure the reliability of experimental results. In addition, the uniformity of an applied temperature trigger across the MEMS chip is a crucial parameter. In this work, it is measured the temperature homogeneity of MEMS‐based heating sample supports by locally analyzing the dynamics of heat‐induced alloying of Au@Ag nanoparticles located in different regions of the support through quantitative fast high‐angle annular dark‐field scanning TEM tomography. These results demonstrate the superior temperature homogeneity of a microheater design based on a heating element shaped as a circular spiral with a width decreasing outwards compared to a double spiral‐shaped designed microheater. The proposed approach to measure the local temperature homogeneity based on the thermal properties of bimetallic nanoparticles will support the future development of MEMS‐based heating supports with improved thermal properties and in situ studies where high precision in the temperature at a certain position is required. Gear transmission errors are influenced by temperature especially in the aerospace field. A model is proposed to investigate the influence of temperature on cylindrical gear transmission errors based on the thermal network (TETN). The gear temperature field distribution model is established based on the thermal network method, and gear thermal deformation can be calculated along the gear meshing line. Regarding the gear single-flank rolling process, the variation of gear transmission errors under temperature is determined. In numerical calculations in MATLAB, the variation of gear transmission errors at 100 ℃ compared to 20 ℃ is -4.20 μm, which decreases almost linearly while the thermal expansion coefficient of the gear material increases. The simulation of the gear transmission errors variation of temperatures using the finite element method (FEM) were carried out in Workbench software under Ansys and the average difference of the TETN model results between calculations and FEM for different temperatures was 0.24 μm. Experiments were carried out on the gear tester in temperatures ranging from 0℃ to 100℃, the TETN model results in calculations were compared with the results of the tester, and the average difference was -1.15 μm. The results show that the proposed TETN can be used as an algorithm to determine the variation of gear transmission errors under the influence of temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of geothermal resources in the Dongpu Depression can improve not only the economic benefits of the oilfield but also the ecological environment. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the geothermal resources in the region. Based on the heat flow, geothermal gradient and thermal properties, the temperatures and their distribution in different strata are calculated using geothermal methods, and the geothermal resource types of the Dongpu Depression are identified. The results show that the geothermal resources include low-temperature, medium-temperature and high-temperature geothermal resources in the Dongpu Depression. The Minghuazhen and Guantao Formations mainly include low-temperature and medium-temperature geothermal resources; the Dongying and Shahejie Formations include low-temperature, medium-temperature and high-temperature geothermal resources; the Ordovician rocks mainly include medium-temperature and high-temperature geothermal resources. The Minghuazhen, Guantao and Dongying Formations can form good geothermal reservoirs and are favorable layers for exploring low-temperature and medium-temperature geothermal resources. The geothermal reservoir of the Shahejie Formation is relatively poor, and the thermal reservoirs may be developed in the western slope zone and the central uplift. The Ordovician carbonate strata can provide thermal reservoirs for geothermal resources, and the Cenozoic bottom temperature is more than 150 °C except for most of the western gentle slope zone. In addition, for the same stratum, the geothermal temperatures in the southern Dongpu Depression are higher than those in the northern depression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Medium frequency transformer (MFT) plays a key role in future power systems and new energy systems. It is very important for the safe operation of MFT to correctly calculate the temperature rise and hot spot position. According to the heat dissipation of transformer, the equivalent thermal network model of the core-type transformer is established in this paper. The traditional thermal network model ignores the heat dissipation of the magnetic core column and the inner surface of the yoke to the air. In this paper, the magnetic core column is divided into the air surrounding part and winding surrounding part. The heat dissipation on the inner surface of the yoke is further considered. The improved thermal network model is verified by finite element simulation. The results show that compared with the traditional thermal network model, the improved thermal network model proposed in this paper can more comprehensively analyse the temperature field distribution and calculate the node temperature more accurately. In order to better understand the law of smoke propagation in long channel fires and enhance the fire protection of channel structure with different lining materials, a series of fire simulations were carried out by Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) to investigate the impact of wall thermal inertia on the maximum smoke temperature and longitudinal attenuation under the channel ceiling. Five wall materials corresponding from the foam concrete to the steel with thermal inertia ranging from 0.1 to 165 kW2•s/(m4·K2) and four heat release rates (5 MW, 7.5 MW, 10 MW and 12.5 MW) were employed. The maximum smoke temperature above the fire source and the temperature distribution under the ceiling along the channel longitudinal centerline were attained and analyzed. The results show that the maximum smoke temperature is significantly affected by the channel wall thermal property and increases with the decrease of wall thermal inertia. Based on the simulative data, a modified model taking the influence of wall thermal inertia into consideration is put forward to predict the maximum gas temperature below the ceiling. Further, the effect of channel wall thermal inertia on the longitudinal smoke temperature decay can be negligible when the thermal inertia is greater than or equal to 1.21 kW2•s/(m4·K2), however, the foam concrete wall with the thermal inertia of 0.1 kW2•s/(m4·K2) results in a smaller attenuation rate due to less heat conducted into the channel wall. Meanwhile, the smoke temperature distribution along the channel longitudinal centerline is also related to the heat release rate (HRR), and the larger the HRR, the slower the temperature decay. The investigation indicates that the temperature distribution along the longitudinal direction follows an exponential attenuation in the near fire field but presents a form of the sum of two exponential functions in the one-dimensional smoke propagation stage. Then taking the effect of wall thermal inertia and heat release rate into account, two novel models characterizing the law of longitudinal temperature attenuation were developed near fire source and in the one-dimensional smoke spread stage respectively. • Maximum smoke temperature and longitudinal temperature attenuation were investigated in a long channel. • Smoke propagation beneath the ceiling with different thermal inertia were considered. • Modified model on maximum smoke temperature with different wall thermal inertia. • Proposed correlations on smoke temperature attenuation with different wall thermal inertia. Due to the poor weldability of Inconel 738 alloy, defects (cracks, pores) always exist in the selective laser melting(SLM) process. In this paper, the molten pool evolution of the single track, including the morphology, porosity and crack formation, was systematically investigated by numerical simulation, and the effects of different preheating temperature and process parameters were verified by experimental analysis. The detailed temperature-dependent thermal physical properties were applied into the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method to simulate a powder bed computational domain which was established by Discrete Element Model (DEM). The simulation results show that the change of molten pool width by different laser power and preheating was not as significant as that of depth. The results also demonstrate that higher energy density and preheating temperature induced the generation of pores at the bottom of molten pool, which can be explained by the variation in cooling rates. Moreover, the change of temperature gradients in three-dimensional directions with the increase of preheating temperature was also investigated, which explained the reason for crack forming and extending through the center line. Finally, the evolution of molten pool at a higher preheating temperature 1000℃ was simulated to further underpin the positive effect of preheating on preventing cracks formation. • Background temperature change led to errors in thermal property if LTM was used. • When d < 14 mm, to replace LTM by RTM can decrease RE s in λ from 667% to 68%. • From 9:00 to 16:00, RTM was capable to get accurate thermal property with d = 2 mm. • When d ≥ 8 mm, the performance of RTM was similar to that of LTM. Dual probe heat pulse (DPHP) method is a useful method to measure many soil physical properties in-situ, which play important roles in soil science, meteorology, hydrology and so on. It is essential to remove the effect of background temperature fluctuations for DPHP estimations. We compared two background temperature correction methods of DPHP method, linear trend method (LTM) and reference temperature method (RTM) in field experiments. We found that misused LTM lead to large errors in DPHP estimations with shallow burial depth. When the burial depth of temperature probe (d) of DPHP sensor is <14 mm, background temperature changes are related to environmental factors such as solar radiation and wind, and RTM can decrease the relative error (RE) in thermal conductivity (λ) from 667% to 68%. Besides, our results also showed during the period from 9:00 to 16:00, the RTM method is valuable for getting accurate DPHP estimations with the 2 mm burial depth. After replacing LTM by RTM, RE s were decreased to (6 ± 28)% from (17 ± 87) % in λ , and were decreased to (9 ± 17)% from (10 ± 18)% in volumetric heat capacity (C v). But RTM is also affected by other factors such as the spatially heterogeneous temperature distribution of tested sample and should be taken into account in the further studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
