Background In KEYNOTE-355 (NCT02819518), the addition of pembrolizumab to chemotherapy led to statistically significant improvements in progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with advanced triple-negative breast cancer with tumor programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) combined positive score of at least 10. We report patient-reported outcomes from KEYNOTE-355. Methods Patients were randomly assigned 2:1 to pembrolizumab 200 mg or placebo every 3 weeks for up to 35 cycles plus investigator's choice chemotherapy (nab-paclitaxel, paclitaxel, or gemcitabine plus carboplatin). The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire–Core 30 (QLQ-C30), Breast Cancer–Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire, and EuroQol 5-Dimension questionnaire visual analog scale were prespecified. Patient-reported outcomes were analyzed for patients who received at least 1 dose of study treatment and completed at least 1 patient-reported outcome assessment. Changes in patient-reported outcome scores from baseline were assessed at week 15 (latest time point at which completion and compliance rates were at least 60% and at least 80%, respectively). Time to deterioration in patient-reported outcomes was defined as time to first onset of at least a 10-point worsening in score from baseline. Results Patient-reported outcome analyses included 317 patients with tumor PD-L1 combined positive score of at least 10 (pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy: n = 217; placebo plus chemotherapy: n = 100). There were no between-group differences in change from baseline to week 15 in QLQ-C30 global health status/quality of life (QOL; least-squares mean difference = −1.81, 95% confidence interval [CI] = −6.92 to 3.30), emotional functioning (least-squares mean difference = −1.43, 95% CI = −7.03 to 4.16), physical functioning (least-squares mean difference = −1.05, 95% CI = −6.59 to 4.50), or EuroQol 5-Dimension questionnaire visual analog scale (least-squares mean difference = 0.18, 95% CI = −5.04 to 5.39) and no between-group difference in time to deterioration in QLQ-C30 global health status/QOL, emotional functioning, or physical functioning. Conclusions Together with the efficacy and safety findings, patient-reported outcome results from KEYNOTE-355 support pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy as a standard of care for patients with advanced triple-negative breast cancer with tumor PD-L1 expression (combined positive score ≥10). Purpose: Exercise therapy is a crucial intervention for improving health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients undergoing haemodialysis. However, factors that improve HRQOL by improving physical function and dialysis-related symptoms remain unknown. This study aimed to examine the physical function parameters and dialysis-related symptoms that improve HRQOL following intradialytic exercise. Methods: This multicentre cohort study included 596 patients who participated in an intradialytic exercise program three times per week for a period of 6 months, which comprised of stretching and resistance training. EuroQol 5 dimensions 5-level (EQ5D-5L), grip strength, isometric knee extension strength, 10-m walking speed, Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), and improvement in dialysis-related symptoms were measured at the baseline and post-intervention. A linear mixed model was used to analyse the effects of improved physical function and dialysis-related symptoms on improvements in EQ5D-5L. Results: As a physical function index affecting ΔEQ5D-5L, only SPPB showed a significant increase in ΔEQ5D-5L compared with the non-improved group [difference in ΔEQ5D-5L, 0.05 (0.004 to 0.092) point; p < 0.05]). In addition, dialysis-related symptoms with Improved physical conditions [difference in ΔEQ5D-5L, 0.07 (0.02 to 0.13) point] and an Extended walking distance [difference in ΔEQ5D-5L was 0.07 (0.01 to 0.12) point] significantly influenced ΔEQ5D-5L (p < 0.05, both). Objectives: To investigate the crucial roles of physical function (PF) and physical activity (PA) in axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) patients, as well as their correlation with disease activity (DA), and to explore the influence of general characteristics among them. Methods: We enrolled axSpA patients from Xijing Hospital, spanning March 2022 to August 2022. Spearman rank correlation coefficients were used to assess correlations between PA (measured by the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire [GPAQ]), PF (measured by the Assessment of Spondyloarthritis international Society Health Index [ASAS‐HI], the Short Form 36‐Item Health Survey [SF‐36], and the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index [BASFI]), DA, and their influencing factors. A Mann–Whitney U‐test and Kruskal–Wallis H‐test were used to compare variables between different patients grouped by sex, human leukocyte antigen B27 (HLA‐B27), hip involvement, and intensity of PA and DA. Results: Three hundred fifty‐five axSpA patients were included. We observed a moderate to strong correlation between DA and PF in axSpA patients. PA was weakly correlated with DA or PF. DA varied significantly at different PA levels, and patients with low PA levels had poorer PF. Active patients had worse PF, less transport‐related PA, and a higher rate of hip involvement with a worse Harris Hip Score (HHS). Conclusions: We identified a close relationship between DA, PF, and PA in axSpA patients. Further, gender, HLA‐B27, and hip involvement affected the clinical manifestation of axSpA patients. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of percutaneous balloon compression (PBC) in treating trigeminal neuralgia (TN) and determine improvements in quality of life (QoL) and daily functional status. Methods: Data from primary TN (pTN) patients treated with PBC from December 2018 to April 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Short-Form 36 (SF-36) Health Survey and Functional Independence Measure (FIM) assessments were used to evaluate patients' QoL and physical function every 6 months after surgery, and facial pain was evaluated every 3 to 6 months post-surgery. Results: A total of 80 pTN patients were enrolled for analysis. The Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) scores of I-II were achieved in 67 (83.8%) patients immediately after the surgery. The estimated rates of BNI I-II pain relief at one, two, and three years were 94.2%, 87.6%, and 83.2%, respectively. All aspects of the SF-36 questionnaire were significantly improved after the PBC, especially in terms of role physical (RP), bodily pain (BP), and social functioning (SF). Patients' functional outcomes measured by FIM at the 6-month follow-up examination were 108.6 ± 9.9, which was significantly improved compared with the pretreatment scores (90.8 ± 12.7). There was no difference between the severity of facial numbness in FIM and any item of the SF-36 except RP (P = 0.004) at 6 months after surgery. There was also no difference in SF-36 and FIM between patients with or without facial hyperalgesia. Conclusions: PBC can produce long-term and stable pain relief and significantly improve the patient's QoL and physical function. Objective: This randomized controlled trial aimed at investigating the effects of tele-yoga on physical function, disease activity, spinal mobility, flexibility, muscular endurance, exercise capacity, balance, sleep quality, stress, depression, anxiety, quality of life (QoL), and mindfulness in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Methods: Sixty patients with AS were randomly assigned to the tele-yoga group (TYG) or wait-list control group (CG). In addition to their medical treatments, TYG participants attended online yoga classes three times per week for 8 weeks. The CG continued their standard medical treatment. Data were collected at baseline and after 8 weeks. The primary outcome measure was physical function as assessed by the Bath AS Functional Index (BASFI). Secondary outcome measures included the Bath AS Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), Bath AS Patient Global Score (BAS-G), Assessment of SpondyloArthritis International Society Health Index (ASAS HI), Bath AS Metrology Index (BASMI), sit-and-reach test, sit-up test, push-up test, incremental shuttle walk test, Balance Master test, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS). Results: Compared with the CG (n = 27), participants in the TYG (n = 28) demonstrated significant improvements in BASFI (p = 0.001). The TYG also showed significant improvements in disease activity, spinal mobility, flexibility, muscular endurance, balance, sleep quality, stress, depression, and QoL compared with the CG (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Tele-yoga practice appears to be a safe and promising intervention for patients with AS and should be considered as a part of holistic disease management because of its potential physical and psychological benefits. Introduction: Hereditary transthyretin (ATTRv; v for variant) amyloidosis, also known as hATTR amyloidosis, is a progressive and fatal disease associated with rapid deterioration of physical function and patients' quality of life (QOL). Vutrisiran, a subcutaneously administered RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic that reduces hepatic production of transthyretin, was assessed in patients with ATTRv amyloidosis with polyneuropathy in the pivotal HELIOS-A study. Methods: The phase 3 open-label HELIOS-A study investigated the efficacy and safety of vutrisiran in patients with ATTRv amyloidosis with polyneuropathy, compared with an external placebo group from the APOLLO study of the RNAi therapeutic patisiran. Measures of QOL and physical function were assessed. Results: At month 18, vutrisiran improved Norfolk Quality of Life-Diabetic Neuropathy (Norfolk QOL-DN) total score (least squares mean difference [LSMD] in change from baseline [CFB]: –21.0; p = 1.84 × 10–10) and Norfolk QOL-DN domain scores, compared with external placebo. This benefit relative to external placebo was evident across all baseline polyneuropathy disability (PND) scores and most pronounced in patients with baseline PND scores I–II. Compared with external placebo, vutrisiran also demonstrated benefit in EuroQoL-Visual Analog Scale (EQ-VAS) score (LSMD in CFB: 13.7; nominal p = 2.21 × 10–7), 10-m walk test (LSMD in CFB: 0.239 m/s; p = 1.21 × 10–7), Rasch-built Overall Disability Score (LSMD in CFB: 8.4; p = 3.54 × 10–15), and modified body mass index (mBMI) (LSMD in CFB: 140.7; p = 4.16 × 10–15) at month 18. Overall, Norfolk QOL-DN, EQ-VAS, and mBMI improved from pretreatment baseline with vutrisiran, whereas all measures worsened from baseline in the external placebo group. At month 18, Karnofsky Performance Status was stable/improved from baseline in 58.2/13.1% with vutrisiran versus 34.7/8.1% with external placebo. Conclusion: Vutrisiran treatment provided significant clinical benefits in multiple measures of QOL and physical function in patients with ATTRv amyloidosis with polyneuropathy. Objective: To identify long-term trajectories of physical function and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among people with hip and/or knee osteoarthritis (HKOA) and the sociodemographic, lifestyle, and clinical factors associated with different trajectories. Methods: Participants with HKOA from the EpiDoC study, a 10-year follow-up (2011–2021) population-based cohort, were considered. Sociodemographic, lifestyle, and clinical variables were collected at baseline in a structured interview and clinical appointment. Physical function and HRQoL were evaluated with the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) and EuroQoL, respectively, at baseline and the three follow-ups. Group-based trajectory modeling identified physical function and HRQoL trajectories. Multinomial logistic regression analyzed the associations between the covariates of interest and trajectory assignment (p < 0.05). Results: We included 983 participants with HKOA. We identified three trajectories for each outcome: "consistently low disability" (32.0%), "slightly worsening moderate disability" (47.0%), and "consistently high disability" (21.0%) for physical function; "consistently high HRQoL" (18.3%), "consistently moderate HRQoL" (48.4%) and "consistently low HRQoL" (33.4%) for HRQoL. Age ≥ 75 years, female sex, multimorbidity, and high baseline clinical severity were associated with higher risk of assignment to poorer physical function and HRQoL trajectories. Participants with high education level and with regular physical activity had a lower risk of assignment to a poor trajectory. Unmanageable pain levels increased the risk of assignment to the "consistently moderate HRQoL" trajectory. Conclusion: Although the trajectories of physical function and HRQoL remained stable over 10 years, approximately 70% of people with HKOA maintained moderate or low physical function and HRQoL over this period. Modifiable risk factors like physical activity, multimorbidity and clinical severity were associated with poorer physical function and HRQoL trajectories. Background This study develops a new concept, dual functionality, that integrates physical and cognitive function. We use the concept to define a measure of dual-function life expectancy (2FLE) and assess racial–ethnic inequalities in aging. Methods Drawing on data from the National Health Interview Survey Linked Mortality Files and the Health and Retirement Study, we define dual functionality as having no limitations in activities of daily living and being free of dementia. We use this measure and Sullivan life tables to estimate age-50 total life expectancy and age-50 2FLE for women and men across 4 racial–ethnic and nativity groups. Results At ages 50–54, between 79.0% (95% CI: 73.5, 84.5) and 87.6% (95% CI: 84.0, 91.2) of (non-Hispanic) Black, foreign-born Hispanic, and U.S.-born Hispanic women and men remain dual functional as compared with 90.4% (95% CI: 89.3, 91.4) and 91.4% (95% CI: 90.2, 92.5) of (non-Hispanic) White women and men, respectively. These and corresponding racial–ethnic disparities in dual functionality through ages 85 and older translate into substantial inequalities in 2FLE. For instance, the Black–White gap in age-50 2FLE is 6.9 years (95% CI: −7.5, −6.4) for women and 6.0 years (95% CI: −6.6, −5.4) for men. Conclusions Black, foreign-born Hispanic, and U.S.-born Hispanic older adults are estimated to live a smaller percentage of their remaining years with dual functionality than White older adults. Patients with either diabetes (DM) or depression (DP) are prone to developing other diseases and require more medical resources than do the general population. This study aimed to examine health-related quality of life, medical resource use, and physical function of patients with both diabetes mellitus and depression, and the magnitude of effects among patients with different combinations of comorbid diseases. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data from 2009 to 2014. Total 16,159 patients were studied and classified into one of 4 groups: both DM and DP(DM+/DP+), DM+/without DP(DP−), without DM (DM−)/DP+, and DM−/DP−, according to the perceived score in Patient Health Questionnaire and diabetes questionnaire in NHANES. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL), medical resource use, and physical function were measured as outcomes of interests. Multivariate logistic regression models were used. Compared with DM−/DP− patients, the DM+/DP+ (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 2.59; 95 % CI: 1.77–3.80) and DM−/DP+ (AOR: 2.44; 95 % CI: 1.94–3.06) had greater likely to have worse health. In addition, the DM+/DP+ (AOR: 5.40; 95 % CI: 1.30–22.41) and DM+/DP− (AOR: 2.49; 95 % CI: 1.91–3.25) were more likely to have medical visits, and worse physical function. This study found that both depression and diabetes mellitus worsen HRQoL, increase medical resource use, and decrease physical function. Background: To our knowledge, there is no intervention which includes personalised exercise therapy and self-management support for people with multimorbidity, although these interventions may be as effective as for people with single chronic conditions. Therefore, we developed a novel intervention, including personalised exercise therapy and self-management support for people with multimorbidity. Methods: We followed the Medical Research Council framework and conducted one scoping review, five systematic reviews, two registry-based studies, one qualitative interview study and a mixed-methods feasibility study. Following an iterative approach, together with feedback from people with multimorbidity and relevant stakeholders, we developed the MOBILIZE intervention. Results: The intervention included 24 (60 minutes) sessions of personalised exercise therapy and 24 (30 minutes) sessions of self-management support twice a week for 12 weeks, delivered in small groups by specifically trained physiotherapists. The intervention targets physiological, psychosocial, behavioural, and contextual factors to improve health-related quality of life and physical function in people living with multimorbidity. Conclusions: We developed a personalised exercise therapy and self-management support programme for people with multimorbidity. Background: Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) was initially developed for the management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and is now recognized as a core management of COVID-19 patients. This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the efficacy of PR in patients with post-acute COVID-19 infection. Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed, the Web of Science (WoS), and the Cochrane Library from their inceptions until October 2022, and randomized controlled trials and observational studies were considered. The outcomes measured included dyspnea, physical function, and quality of life. Results: Eleven studies including 677 participants with post-acute COVID-19 were included in this analysis. From a qualitative point of view and analyzing the studies separately, PR improves dyspnea, physical function, and quality of life in patients with post-acute COVID-19. However, in pooling the data of all the studies, no significant changes pre-postintervention, compared to the control, were found among the experimental studies included in the analysis in any outcome measures, due to the high heterogeneity between the studies, as well as no significant improvements being found in the observational studies. A subgroup analysis revealed significant differences in all the included outcomes. Future studies should include the same scale to assess the actual efficacy of PR. Conclusion: From a qualitative analysis point of view, PR is effective in improving physical function, reducing dyspnea, and improving quality of life in patients with post-acute COVID-19. Background regular physical exercise is essential to maintain or improve functional capacity in older adults. Multimorbidity, functional limitation, social barriers and currently, coronavirus disease of 2019, among others, have increased the need for home-based exercise (HBE) programmes and digital health interventions (DHI). Our objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of HBE programs delivered by DHI on physical function, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) improvement and falls reduction in older adults. Design systematic review and meta-analysis. Participants community-dwelling older adults over 65 years. Intervention exercises at home through DHI. Outcomes measures physical function, HRQoL and falls. Results twenty-six studies have met the inclusion criteria, including 5,133 participants (range age 69.5 ± 4.0–83.0 ± 6.7). The HBE programmes delivered with DHI improve muscular strength (five times sit-to-stand test, −0.56 s, 95% confidence interval, CI −1.00 to −0.11; P  = 0.01), functional capacity (Barthel index, 5.01 points, 95% CI 0.24–9.79; P  = 0.04) and HRQoL (SMD 0.18; 95% CI 0.05–0.30; P  = 0.004); and reduce events of falls (odds ratio, OR 0.77, 95% CI 0.64–0.93; P  = 0.008). In addition, in the subgroup analysis, older adults with diseases improve mobility (SMD −0.23; 95% CI −0.45 to −0.01; P  = 0.04), and balance (SMD 0.28; 95% CI 0.09–0.48; P  = 0.004). Conclusion the HBE programmes carried out by DHI improve physical function in terms of lower extremity strength and functional capacity. Background Impaired physical function drives adverse outcomes in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Peripheral neuropathy is highly prevalent in CKD, though its contribution to physical function in CKD patients is unknown. This study examined the relationships between peripheral neuropathy, walking speed and quality of life (QoL) in stages 3 and 4 CKD. Methods This was a prospective observational study investigating neuropathy in CKD patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) 15–60   mL/min/1.73 m2. A total of 109 patients were consecutively recruited. The presence and severity of peripheral neuropathy was determined using the total neuropathy score. Walking speed was assessed at both usual and maximal speed, and QoL was assessed using the Short- Form 36 (SF-36) questionnaire. Results Peripheral neuropathy was highly prevalent: 40% demonstrated mild neuropathy and 37% had moderate–severe neuropathy. Increasing neuropathy severity was the primary predictor of reduced walking speed (R 2   =   −0.41, P  <  0.001) and remained so after multivariable analysis adjustment for diabetes. This association was evident for both usual and maximal walking speeds. Neuropathy correlated significantly with low scores on multiple domains of SF-36 including physical function (r  =   −0.570, P  <  0.001). Subanalysis according to diabetic status revealed a high prevalence of neuropathy both with and without diabetes; relationships to walking speed remained evident in subgroup analysis. However, those with diabetes demonstrated greater severity of neuropathy, slower walking speed and lower scores in QoL. Conclusions Moderate to severe peripheral neuropathy was common in stages 3 and 4 CKD, associated with reduced walking speed independent of diabetes status and was correlated with patient-reported QoL. This suggests that neuropathy is an important contributor to declining physical function in CKD irrespective of diabetes status. Background: A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the short- and long-term effects of exercise therapy on physical function, independence, and well-being in older patients following hip fracture and, secondly, whether the effect was modified by trial-level characteristics such as intervention modality, duration, and initiation timepoint.Method: Medline, CENTRAL, Embase, CINAHL, and PEDro were searched up to November 2020. Eligibility criteria were randomized controlled trials investigating the effect of exercise therapy on physical function, independence, and well-being in older patients following hip fracture, initiated from time of surgery up to 1 year.Results: Forty-nine studies involving 3 905 participants showed a small-to-moderate effect of exercise therapy at short term (end of intervention) on mobility (standardized mean difference [SMD] 0.49, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.22-0.76); activities of daily living (ADL) (SMD 0.31, 95% CI: 0.16-0.46); lower limb muscle strength (SMD 0.36, 95% CI: 0.13-0.60); and balance (SMD 0.34, 95% CI: 0.14-0.54). At long term (closest to 1 year), small-to-moderate effects were found for mobility (SMD 0.74, 95% CI: 0.15-1.34), ADL (SMD 0.42, 95% CI: 0.23-0.61), balance (SMD 0.50, 95% CI: 0.07-0.94), and health-related quality of life (SMD 0.31, 95% CI: 0.03-0.59). Certainty of evidence was evaluated using Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation ranging from moderate to very low, due to study limitation and inconsistency.Conclusion: We found low certainty of evidence for a moderate effect of exercise therapy on mobility in older patients following hip fracture at end of treatment and follow-up. Purpose: This study aimed to compare the effects of virtual reality (VR) training and resistance exercises training on lymphedema symptom severity as well as physical functioning and QoL in women with breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL).Methods: In a single blinded randomized trial, women diagnosed with unilateral BCRL were randomly divided into two groups: the Xbox Kinect group received VR Kinect-based games (n = 30) and resistance exercise group received resistance training (n = 30). In addition, both groups received complex decongestive physiotherapy (manual lymphatic drainage, compression bandages, skin care, and exercises). The intervention was conducted five sessions per week for 8 weeks. The outcome measures included excessive limb volume, visual analogue scale (VAS), the Disability of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire, shoulder range of motion (ROM), shoulder muscles strength, hand grip strength, and Study Short-Form (SF-36). The outcomes were evaluated pre and post intervention (week 8).Results: Statistical significant differences were recorded in VAS (pain intensity), DASH, shoulder ROM (p < 0.001), bodily pain (p = 0.002), general health (p < 0.001), and vitality (p = 0.006) in favor of the Xbox Kinect group. However, there were statistically significant differences in shoulder flexion strength (p = 0.002), external rotation strength (p = 0.004), and abduction strength and handgrip strength (p < 0.001) in favor of the resistance exercise group.Conclusions: The VR training was superior to resistance exercises training in BCRL management. Objectives: Significant variability exists in physical rehabilitation modalities and dosage used in the ICU. Our objective was to investigate the effect of physical rehabilitation in ICU on patient outcomes, the impact of task-specific training, and the dose-response profile.Data Sources: A systematic search of Ovid MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and CINAHL plus databases was undertaken on the May 28, 2020.Study Selection: Randomized controlled trials and controlled clinical trials investigating physical rehabilitation commencing in the ICU in adults were included. Outcomes included muscle strength, physical function, duration of mechanical ventilation, ICU and hospital length of stay, mortality, and health-related quality of life. Two independent reviewers assessed titles, abstracts, and full texts against eligibility criteria.Data Extraction: Details on intervention for all groups were extracted using the template for intervention description and replication checklist.Data Synthesis: Sixty trials were included, with a total of 5,352 participants. Random-effects pooled analysis showed that physical rehabilitation improved physical function at hospital discharge (standardized mean difference, 0.22; 95% CI, 0.00-0.44), reduced ICU length of stay by 0.8 days (mean difference, -0.80 d; 95% CI, -1.37 to -0.23 d), and hospital length of stay by 1.75 days (mean difference, -1.75 d; 95% CI, -3.03 to -0.48 d). Physical rehabilitation had no impact on the other outcomes. The intervention was more effective in trials where the control group received low-dose physical rehabilitation and in trials that investigated functional exercises.Conclusions: Physical rehabilitation in the ICU improves physical function and reduces ICU and hospital length of stay. Purpose: Older breast cancer survivors (BCS) may be at greater risk for cognitive dysfunction and other comorbidities; both of which may be associated with physical and emotional well-being. This study will seek to understand these relationships by examining the association between objective and subjective cognitive dysfunction and physical functioning and quality of life (QoL) and moderated by comorbidities in older BCS. Methods: A secondary data analysis was conducted on data from 335 BCS (stages I–IIIA) who were ≥ 60 years of age, received chemotherapy, and were 3–8 years post-diagnosis. BCS completed a one-time questionnaire and neuropsychological tests of learning, delayed recall, attention, working memory, and verbal fluency. Descriptive statistics and separate linear regression analyses testing the relationship of each cognitive assessment on physical functioning and QoL controlling for comorbidities were conducted. Results: BCS were on average 69.79 (SD = 3.34) years old and 5.95 (SD = 1.48) years post-diagnosis. Most were stage II (67.7%) at diagnosis, White (93.4%), had at least some college education (51.6%), and reported on average 3 (SD = 1.81) comorbidities. All 6 physical functioning models were significant (p <.001), with more comorbidities and worse subjective attention identified as significantly related to decreased physical functioning. One model found worse subjective attention was related to poorer QoL (p <.001). Objective cognitive function measures were not significantly related to physical functioning or QoL. Conclusions: A greater number of comorbidities and poorer subjective attention were related to poorer outcomes and should be integrated into research seeking to determine predictors of physical functioning and QoL in breast cancer survivors. Background: The prevalence of sarcopenia increases as renal function decreases, and a considerable number of hemodialysis (HD) patients have sarcopenia. Exercise and nutritional support are established interventions to prevent and treat sarcopenia. Recently, many studies evaluating intradialytic neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) showed improvement of muscular strength and mass, functional capacity, and quality of life (QOL). However, there has been no research about the effect of simultaneous nutritional support and NMES in HD patients.Methods: This is a 12-week, randomized controlled, parallel-group, multicenter trial of intradialytic NMES and protein supplementation for HD patients. Seventy-two patients receiving HD will be randomly assigned in a 1:1:1:1 ratio to control, intradialytic NMES only, protein supplementation only, and intradialytic NMES combined with protein supplementation groups. NMES will be delivered to a total of four areas of the bilateral vastus medialis and vastus lateralis using a 4-channel NMES instrument. A total of 25 g of protein supplements will be provided at the beginning of every dialysis session or after the NMES. The primary endpoint is the difference of hand grip and leg muscle strength at 12 weeks among 4 treatment groups. Secondary endpoints include muscle mass, physical performances, and questionnaires about QOL and physical activity.Discussion: In this study, we will evaluate the differential effectiveness of nutritional support and NMES during HD on muscle strength, muscle mass, physical function, and QOL. We expect that this study can provide guidelines for a new therapeutic option for HD patients who are unable or hesitant to exercise. Introduction: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) has a major impact on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and other patient-reported outcomes (PROs), important components in the assessment of therapeutic efficacy. We evaluated the impact of upadacitinib on PROs in PsA patients with inadequate responses or intolerance to biologic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARD-IR). Methods: Patients enrolled in the phase 3 SELECT-PsA 2 randomized controlled trial (RCT) received 56 weeks of oral upadacitinib 15 mg QD, upadacitinib 30 mg QD, or placebo switched to either dose of upadacitinib at week 24. PROs included patient global assessment of disease activity (PtGA), pain, physical function (HAQ-DI), health-related quality of life (SF-36 physical (PCS) and mental (MCS) component summary and domain scores), fatigue (FACIT-F), psoriasis symptom severity (SAPS), and work productivity (WPAI). Mean changes from baseline in PROs, improvements ≥ minimum clinically important differences (MCID) and scores ≥ normative values, and maintenance of improvements were assessed. Results: At weeks 12 and 24, patients treated with either upadacitinib dose reported statistically and nominally significant improvements from baseline across all PROs versus placebo (p ≤ 0.05), except the WPAI absenteeism domain, which were maintained or further improved to week 56. A significantly greater proportion of patients receiving either upadacitinib dose reported improvements ≥ MCID and scores ≥ normative values versus placebo (nominal p ≤ 0.01) in most PROs at weeks 12 and 24, with clinically meaningful improvements continuing to week 56. Improvements ≥ MCID were reported as early as week 2 in PtGA, pain, and HAQ-DI. Purpose: This study aimed to identify the association between health-related physical indicators—sarcopenia-related factors, physical fitness, independence in activities of daily living (ADL) and habitual physical activity—and self-rated quality of life (QoL) in people with neurocognitive disorder (NCD). Methods: This cross-sectional study included 115 participants (78.22 ± 7.48 years; 74.8% female) clinically diagnosed with NCD. Self-rated QoL was evaluated using The Quality of Life-Alzheimer's Disease (QoL-AD). Dual energy X-ray Absorptiometry, handgrip strength, Short Physical Performance Battery, and the 6-m Walk test were used to assess sarcopenia-related factors. Senior Fitness Test and One Leg Balance test, Barthel Index, Baecke Modified Habitual Physical Activity Questionnaire were used to determine physical fitness, independence in ADL and physical activity, respectively. Regressions analyses were performed to examine associations between these variables and QoL-AD. Results: Data from univariable linear regression analysis revealed that self-rated QoL was associated with sarcopenia-related factors (lower body function, handgrip strength, gait speed, and appendicular skeletal muscle mass index—ASMI), physical fitness (upper-and-lower-body strength, agility/dynamic balance, cardiorespiratory fitness and body mass index), habitual physical activity and independence in ADL. Results from multivariable regression analysis showed that ASMI (B = 1.846, 95% CI 0.165–3.527, p = 0.032) and lower body function (B = 0.756, 95% CI 0.269–1.242, p = 0.003) were positively associated with self-rated QoL. These variables explained 20.1% of the variability seen in self-rated QoL, controlling for age, sex, marital status and education. Conclusion: Sarcopenia-related factors, namely lower body function and ASMI, should be acknowledged in future research studies as critical health-related indicators associated with QoL in people with NCD. Purpose: We aimed to explore the relationship between characteristics of the sarcopenic phenotype and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in community-dwelling overweight and obese older adults with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: Appendicular lean mass (ALM), corrected for height (ALM/m2) was assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Muscle strength was assessed using handgrip strength (HGS), and lower extremity physical function was assessed using the Short Performance Physical Battery (SPPB) and gait speed. HRQoL was determined using the short-form 36 (SF-36) survey. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine the association between characteristics of the sarcopenic phenotype and domains of HRQoL. Results: A total of n = 152 community-dwelling older adults were included (T2DM cohort: n = 87, 71.2 ± 8.2 years, BMI: 29.5 ± 5.9 kg/m2; Obese cohort: n = 65, 68.7 ± 5.6 years, BMI: 33.7 ± 4.9 kg/m2). After adjusting for potential confounders, gait speed and SPPB were positively associated with the physical function subscale of HRQoL (Gait speed: ß = 0.658; P < 0.001; SPPB: ß = 0.478; P < 0.001). This relationship was also maintained for gait speed when assessed independently by cohort (T2DM cohort: ß = 0.637; P < 0.001; Obese cohort: ß = 0.507; P = 0.003). Conclusions: Our results further contribute to the literature suggesting that lower body extremity function is associated with the physical function subscale of HRQoL. However, larger longitudinal data are required to assess whether lower body extremity function is independently associated with HRQoL, which includes the potential impact of nutrition and physical activity status.
