Solar interfacial evaporation, as a novel practical freshwater production method, requires continuous research on how to improve the evaporation rates to increase water production. In this study, sets of data were obtained from molecule dynamics simulation and literature, in which the parameters included height, diameter, height–radius ratio, evaporation efficiency, and evaporation rate. Initially, the correlation between the four input parameters and the output of the evaporation rate was examined through traditional pairwise plots and Pearson correlation analysis, revealing weak correlations. Subsequently, the accuracy and generalization performance of the evaporation rate prediction models established by neural network and random forest were compared, with the latter demonstrating superior performance and reliability confirmed via random data extraction. Furthermore, the impact of different percentages (10%, 20%, and 30%) of the data on the model performance was explored, and the result indicated that the model performance is better when the test set is 20% and all the constructed model converge. Moreover, the mean absolute error and mean squared error of the evaporation rate prediction model for the three ratios were calculated to evaluate their performance. However, the relationship between the height- radius ratio and optimal evaporation rate was investigated using the enumeration method, and it was determined that the evaporation efficiency was optimal when the height–radius ratio was 6. Finally, the importance of height, diameter, height– radius ratio, and evaporation efficiency were calculated to optimize evaporator structure, increase evaporation rate, and facilitate the application of interfacial evaporation in solar desalination. In this article, we present a machine learning model to obtain fast and accurate estimates of the molecular Hessian matrix. In this model, based on a random forest, the second derivatives of the energy with respect to redundant internal coordinates are learned individually. The internal coordinates together with their specific representation guarantee rotational and translational invariance. The model is trained on a subset of the QM7 dataset but is shown to be applicable to larger molecules picked from the QM9 dataset. From the predicted Hessian, it is also possible to obtain reasonable estimates of the vibrational frequencies, normal modes, and zero point energies of the molecules. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The COVID-19 pandemic prompted governments worldwide to implement a range of containment measures, including mass gathering restrictions, social distancing, and school closures. Despite these efforts, vaccines continue to be the safest and most effective means of combating such viruses. Yet, vaccine hesitancy persists, posing a significant public health concern, particularly with the emergence of new COVID-19 variants. To effectively address this issue, timely data is crucial for understanding the various factors contributing to vaccine hesitancy. While previous research has largely relied on traditional surveys for this information, recent sources of data, such as social media, have gained attention. However, the potential of social media data as a reliable proxy for information on population hesitancy, especially when compared with survey data, remains underexplored. This paper aims to bridge this gap. Our approach uses social, demographic, and economic data to predict vaccine hesitancy levels in the ten most populous US metropolitan areas. We employ machine learning algorithms to compare a set of baseline models that contain only these variables with models that incorporate survey data and social media data separately. Our results show that XGBoost algorithm consistently outperforms Random Forest and Linear Regression, with marginal differences between Random Forest and XGBoost. This was especially the case with models that incorporate survey or social media data, thus highlighting the promise of the latter data as a complementary information source. Results also reveal variations in influential variables across the five hesitancy classes, such as age, ethnicity, occupation, and political inclination. Further, the application of models to different MSAs yields mixed results, emphasizing the uniqueness of communities and the need for complementary data approaches. In summary, this study underscores social media data's potential for understanding vaccine hesitancy, emphasizes the importance of tailoring interventions to specific communities, and suggests the value of combining different data sources. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), which are RNA sequences greater than 200 nucleotides in length, play a crucial role in regulating gene expression and biological processes associated with cancer development and progression. Liver cancer is a major cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, notably in Thailand. Although machine learning has been extensively used in analyzing RNA-sequencing data for advanced knowledge, the identification of potential lncRNA biomarkers for cancer, particularly focusing on lncRNAs as molecular biomarkers in liver cancer, remains comparatively limited. In this study, our objective was to identify candidate lncRNAs in liver cancer. We employed an expression data set of lncRNAs from patients with liver cancer, which comprised 40 699 lncRNAs sourced from The CancerLivER database. Various feature selection methods and machine-learning approaches were used to identify these candidate lncRNAs. The results showed that the random forest algorithm could predict lncRNAs using features extracted from the database, which achieved an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.840 for classifying lncRNAs between early (stage 1) and late stages (stages 2, 3, and 4) of liver cancer. Five of 23 significant lncRNAs (WAC-AS1, MAPKAPK5-AS1, ARRDC1-AS1, AC133528.2, and RP11-1094M14.11) were differentially expressed between early and late stage of liver cancer. Based on the Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) database, higher expression of WAC-AS1, MAPKAPK5-AS1, and ARRDC1-AS1 was associated with shorter overall survival. In conclusion, the classification model could predict the early and late stages of liver cancer using the signature expression of lncRNA genes. Background: Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is a common disease that can cause multiple organ damage in the whole body. Our aim was to use machine learning (ML) to build an independent polysomnography (PSG) model to analyze risk factors and predict OSAHS. Materials and methods: Clinical data of 2064 snoring patients who underwent physical examination in the Health Management Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Shanxi Medical University from July 2018 to July 2023 were retrospectively collected, involving 24 characteristic variables. Then they were randomly divided into training group and verification group according to the ratio of 7:3. By analyzing the importance of these features, it was concluded that LDL-C, Cr, common carotid artery plaque, A1c and BMI made major contributions to OSAHS. Moreover, five kinds of machine learning algorithm models such as logistic regression, support vector machine, Boosting, Random Forest and MLP were further established, and cross validation was used to adjust the model hyperparameters to determine the final prediction model. We compared the accuracy, Precision, Recall rate, F1-score and AUC indexes of the model, and finally obtained that MLP was the optimal model with an accuracy of 85.80%, Precision of 0.89, Recall of 0.75, F1-score of 0.82, and AUC of 0.938. Conclusion: We established the risk prediction model of OSAHS using ML method, and proved that the MLP model performed best among the five ML models. Traditional computational approaches such as Monte Carlo simulation, molecular dynamics, and density functional theory (DFT) have contributed to understanding the role of hole mobility in the development of suitable hole transporting materials (HTMs) for perovskite solar cell efficiency. However, these methods often involve significant computational expenses, thereby limiting the number of feasible studies and hindering the extraction of valuable structure−property guidelines for a rational design of novel HTMs. To address these challenges, this study proposes an ultrafast predictive model that balances prediction accuracy and time efficiency, a critical aspect for predicting the hole mobility of HTMs for perovskite optimization. The model, which leverages the Random Forest learning algorithm, enables comprehensive and rapid analysis of photovoltaic features taken from previous experiments/literature and processed with the RDKit Python library. Notably, recognizing the challenges associated with high correlation in the dataset, a method to improve the calculation of feature importance in random forests is applied. The results highlight bertz_ct, chi1, and logP as key predictive features of HTM performance. However, the model underscores the need to uncover additional predictive features based on structure–property relationships to predict the optimized hole mobility. This approach significantly accelerates the discovery process, outperforming prevalent statistical methods in the prediction of hole mobility and HTM performance. The current research is dedicated to harnessing cutting-edge technologies within the paradigm of Industry 5.0. The objective is to capitalize on advancements in Machine and Deep Learning techniques. This research endeavors to construct robust predictive models, utilizing historical data, for precise real-time predictions in estimating material quantities within a cement workshop. Machine Learning regressors evaluated based on several metrics, SVR (R-squared 0.9739, MAE 0.0403), Random Forest (R-squared 0.9990, MAE 0.0026), MLP (R-squared 0.9890, MAE 0.0255), Gradient Boosting (R-squared 0.9989, MAE 0.0042). The development of fragility curves is an important step in seismic risk assessment within the scope of performance‐based earthquake engineering. The goal of this work is to use machine learning methods (regression‐based tools) to forecast the large‐span precast parking structural responses and fragility curves. This study proposes five predicting models based on machine learning to evaluate the seismic performance of the large‐span precast parking structures, including: neural networks, genetic algorithm‐based neural networks, support vector machine, decision tree and random forest. A database that includes 453 numerical synthetic results was used to train and test the machine learning models. The seismic performance of large‐span precast parking structures were predicted using the constructed machine learning models. Finally, the sensitivity analysis of input parameters was conducted. From this paper we can conclude that: (1) the genetic optimization‐based neural networks' predicting model has the most accurate predictive ability for seismic fragility estimation and (2) the structural responses and the fragility curves of parking structures are related to the differences of the stiffness of the connectors and the number of floors, of which the stiffness of the connectors should be given special attention. Machine learning occupies a central position in the modeling of fish distribution patterns. The augmentation of explanatory variables in fish habitat through many kinds of observational methodologies necessitates the discernment of an optimal combination of these variables for fish distribution modeling. We proposed a feature selection technique, recursive feature elimination with cross-validation (RFECV), to determine optimal variables combinations for yellowfin tuna distribution in the Pacific Ocean. Four tree-based models, random forest, eXtreme Gradient Boosting, Light Gradient Boosting Machine, and categorical boosting driven by RFECV, were developed using comprehensive fisheries and biotic/abiotic data. Habitat variables including sea temperature, dissolved oxygen concentration, chlorophyll-a concentration, sea salinity, and sea surface height were identified as significant features by all models. The models were trained using the corresponding selected variables, and these trained models were employed to predict the spatiotemporal distribution of yellowfin tuna from 1995 to 2019. The results obtained could inform useful knowledge for the sustainable exploitation of yellowfin tuna in the Pacific Ocean and furnish a benchmark of feature selection for machine-learning-based distribution modeling of other pelagic species. Studies have highlighted the potential importance of modeling interactions for suicide attempt prediction. This case-cohort study identified risk factors for suicide attempts among persons with depression in Denmark using statistical approaches that do (random forests) or do not (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression [LASSO]) model interactions. Cases made a nonfatal suicide attempt (n  = 6032) between 1995 and 2015. The comparison subcohort was a 5% random sample of all persons in Denmark on January 1, 1995 (n  = 11 963). We used random forests and LASSO for sex-stratified prediction of suicide attempts from demographic variables, psychiatric and somatic diagnoses, and treatments. Poisonings, psychiatric disorders, and medications were important predictors for both sexes. Area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUC) values were higher in LASSO models (in men, 0.85, 95% CI, 0.84-0.86; in women, 0.89, 95% C, 0.88-0.90) than random forests (in men, 0.76, 95% CI, 0.74-0.78; in women, 0.79, 95% CI = 0.78-0.81). Automatic detection of interactions via random forests did not result in better model performance than LASSO models that did not model interactions. Due to the complex nature of psychiatric comorbidity and suicide, modeling interactions may not always be the optimal statistical approach to enhancing suicide attempt prediction in high-risk samples. The mineral zircon has a robust crystal structure, preserving a wealth of geological information through deep time. Traditionally, trace elements in magmatic and hydrothermal zircon have been employed to distinguish between different primary igneous or metallogenic growth fluids. However, classical approaches based on mineral geochemistry are not only time consuming but often ambiguous due to apparent compositional overlap for different growth environments. Here, we report a compilation of 11 004 zircon trace element measurements from 280 published articles, 7173 from crystals in igneous rocks, and 3831 from ore deposits. Geochemical variables include Hf, Th, U, Y, Ti, Nb, Ta, and the REEs. Igneous rock types include kimberlite, carbonatite, gabbro, basalt, andesite, diorite, granodiorite, dacite, granite, rhyolite, and pegmatite. Ore types include porphyry Cu-Au-Mo, skarntype polymetallic, intrusion-related Au, skarn-type Fe-Cu, and Nb-Ta deposits. We develop Decision Tree, XGBoost, and Random Forest algorithms with this zircon geochemical information to predict lithology or deposit type. The F1-score indicates that the Random Forest algorithm has the best predictive performance for the classification of both lithology and deposit type. The eight most important zircon elements from the igneous rock (Hf, Nb, Ta, Th, U, Eu, Ti, Lu) and ore deposit (Y, Eu, Hf, U, Ce, Ti, Th, Lu) classification models, yielded reliable F1-scores of 0.919 and 0.891, respectively. We present a web page portal (http://60.205.170.161:8001/) for the classifier and employ it to a case study of Archean igneous rocks in Western Australia and ore deposits in Southwest China. Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) ranks as the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder globally, and its incidence is rapidly rising. The diagnosis of PD relies on clinical characteristics. Although current treatments aim to alleviate symptoms, they do not effectively halt the disease's progression. Early detection and intervention hold immense importance. This study aimed to establish a new PD diagnostic model. Methods: Data from a public database were adopted for the construction and validation of a PD diagnostic model with random forest and artificial neural network models. The CIBERSORT platform was applied for the evaluation of immune cell infiltration in PD. Quantitative real-time PCR was performed to verify the accuracy and reliability of the bioinformatics analysis results. Results: Leveraging existing gene expression data from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, we sifted through differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in PD and identified 30 crucial genes through a random forest classifier. Furthermore, we successfully designed a novel PD diagnostic model using an artificial neural network and verified its diagnostic efficacy using publicly available datasets. Our research also suggests that mast cells may play a significant role in the onset and progression of PD. Execution of a marine operation (MO) requires coordinated actions of several vessels conducting simultaneous and sequential offshore activities. These activities have their operational limits given in terms of environmental parameters. Wave parameters are important because of their high energetic level. During the execution of a MO, forecast wave spectral parameters, i.e., significant wave height (Hs), peak period (Tp), and peak direction, are used to make an on-board decision. For critical operations, the use of forecasts can be complemented with buoy measurements. This paper proposes to use synthetic statistics of vessel dynamic responses to predict "real-time" wave spectral parameters using multi-output machine learning (ML) regression algorithms. For a case study of a vessel with no forward speed, it is observed that the random forest model predicts accurate Hs and Tp parameters. The prediction of wave direction is not very accurate but it can be corrected with on-board observations. The random forest model has good performance; it is efficient, useful for practical purposes, and comparable with other deep learning models reported in the scientific literature. This study investigates monthly streamflow modeling at Kale and Durucasu stations in the Black Sea Region of Turkey using remote sensing data. The analysis incorporates key meteorological variables, including air temperature, relative humidity, soil wetness, wind speed, and precipitation. The study also investigates the accuracy of multivariate adaptive regression (MARS) with Kmeans clustering (MARS-Kmeans) by comparing it with single MARS, M5 model tree (M5Tree), random forest regression (RF), multilayer perceptron neural network (MLP). In the first modeling stage, principal component regression is applied to diverse input combinations, both with and without lagged streamflow (Q), resulting in twenty-three and twenty input combinations, respectively. Results demonstrate the critical role of including lagged Q for improved model accuracy, as models without lagged Q exhibit significant performance degradation. The second stage involves a comparative analysis of the MARS-Kmeans model with other machine-learning models, utilizing the best-input combination. MARS-Kmeans, incorporating three clusters, consistently outperforms other models, showcasing superior accuracy in predicting monthly streamflow. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The objective of this study was to estimate trust from conversations using both lexical and acoustic data. Background: As NASA moves to long-duration space exploration operations, the increasing need for cooperation between humans and virtual agents requires real-time trust estimation by virtual agents. Measuring trust through conversation is a novel and unintrusive approach. Method: A 2 (reliability) × 2 (cycles) × 3 (events) withinsubject study with habitat system maintenance was designed to elicit various levels of trust in a conversational agent. Participants had trust-related conversations with the conversational agent at the end of each decision-making task. To estimate trust, subjective trust ratings were predicted using machine learning models trained on three types of conversational features (i.e., lexical, acoustic, and combined). After training, model explanation was performed using variable importance and partial dependence plots. Results: Results showed that a random forest algorithm, trained using the combined lexical and acoustic features, predicted trust in the conversational agent most accurately ðR2 adj ¼ 0:71Þ. The most important predictors were a combination of lexical and acoustic cues: average sentiment considering valence shifters, the mean of formants, and Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC). These conversational features were identified as partial mediators predicting people’s trust. Conclusion: Precise trust estimation from conversation requires lexical cues and acoustic cues. Early monitoring of within-field yield variability and forecasting yield potential is critical for farmers and other key stakeholders such as policymakers. Remote sensing techniques are progressively being used in yield prediction studies due to easy access and affordability. Despite the increasing use of remote sensing techniques for yield prediction in agriculture, there is still a need for medium-resolution satellite imagery when predicting canola yield using a combination of crop and soil information. In this study, we investigated the utility of remotely sensed flowering information from PlanetScope (at 4 m) satellite imagery combined with derived soil and topography parameters to predict canola yield. Our yield prediction model was trained and validated using data from 21 fields managed under variable rate seed and fertilizer application, including cleaned harvester yield maps, soil, and topography maps. To quantify the flowering intensity of canola, 9 vegetation indices (VIs) were calculated using spectral bands from PlanetScope imagery acquired for the reproductive stages of canola. We created five random forest regression models using different subsets of covariates, including VIs, soil, and topography features, to predict canola yield within the season. Using a random forest regression algorithm, we recorded accuracies ranging from poor to best performing using coefficient of determination and root mean squared error (R2: 0.47 to 0.66, RMSE: 325 to 399 kg ha−1). The optimal subset of covariates identified electrical conductivity (EC), Normalized Difference Yellowness Index, and Canola Index as the key variables explaining within-spatial variability in canola yield. Our final model exhibited a validation R2 of 0.46 (RMSE = 730 kg ha−1), demonstrating the potential of medium-resolution satellite imagery during the flowering stage to detect and quantify sub-field spatial and temporal floral phenology changes when predicting canola yield. In recent years, machine learning (ML) has become increasingly popular in various fields of activity. Cloud platforms have also grown in popularity, as they offer services that are more secure and accessible worldwide. In this context, cloud-based technologies emerged to support ML, giving rise to the machine learning as a service (MLaaS) concept. However, the clients accessing ML services in order to obtain classification results on private data may be reluctant to upload sensitive information to cloud. The model owners may also prefer not to outsource their models in order to prevent model inversion attacks and to protect intellectual property. The privacy-preserving evaluation of ML models is possible through multi-key homomorphic encryption (MKHE), that allows both the client data and the model to be encrypted under different keys. In this paper, we propose an MKHE evaluation method for decision trees and we extend the proposed method for random forests. Each decision tree is evaluated as a single lookup table, and voting is performed at the level of groups of decision trees in the random forest. We provide both theoretical and experimental evaluations for the proposed method. The aim is to minimize the performance degradation introduced by the encrypted model compared to a plaintext model while also obtaining practical classification times. In our experiments with the proposed MKHE random forest evaluation method, we obtained minimal (less than 0.6%) impact on the main ML performance metrics considered for each scenario, while also achieving reasonable classification times (of the order of seconds). Background: Despite the clear clinical diagnostic criteria for necrozoospermia in andrology, the fundamental mechanisms underlying it remain elusive. This study aims to profile the lipid composition in seminal plasma systematically and to ascertain the potential of lipid biomarkers in the accurate diagnosis of necrozoospermia. It also evaluates the efficacy of a lipidomics-based random forest algorithm model in identifying necrozoospermia. Methods: Seminal plasma samples were collected from patients diagnosed with necrozoospermia (n = 28) and normozoospermia (n = 28). Liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) was used to perform lipidomic analysis and identify the underlying biomarkers. A lipid functional enrichment analysis was conducted using the LION lipid ontology database. The top 100 differentially significant lipids were subjected to lipid biomarker examination through random forest machine learning model. Results: Lipidomic analysis identified 46 lipid classes comprising 1267 lipid metabolites in seminal plasma. The top five enriched lipid functions as follows: fatty acid (FA) with ≤ 18 carbons, FA with 16–18 carbons, monounsaturated FA, FA with 18 carbons, and FA with 16 carbons. The top 100 differentially significant lipids were subjected to machine learning analysis and identified 20 feature lipids. The random forest model identified lipids with an area under the curve > 0.8, including LPE(20:4) and TG(4:0_14:1_16:0). Conclusions: LPE(20:4) and TG(4:0_14:1_16:0), were identified as differential lipids for necrozoospermia. Seminal plasma lipidomic analysis could provide valuable biochemical information for the diagnosis of necrozoospermia, and its combination with conventional sperm analysis may improve the accuracy and reliability of the diagnosis. In recent years, the focus has shifted towards leveraging physics-based modelling and data-driven analysis to predict drilling incidents and anomalies in real time, with the goal of reducing non-productive periods. However, much of this attention has directed at specific drilling operations like drilling and tripping, leaving other vital processes, such as wellbore conditioning, comparatively overlooked. The primary objective of this study is to employ data-driven techniques for predicting the dynamic state of the wellbore by utilising sensor data, operating parameters, and surface measurements. Accurate predictions are pivotal for automating these processes, promising significant savings in both redundant time and associated costs, ultimately elevating operational efficiency. In this research, the surface drilling parameters such as flowrate, rotation speed, block position, and drill string length are incorporated with the surface measurements such as hookload, pressure, and torque during wellbore conditioning operation to predict further surface sensor measurements. Different parameter settings are evaluated to find the best approach. Six supervised learning algorithms are used to select the best prediction method. The findings reveal that considering all surface parameters and measurements yields the most accurate predictions. Among various single and multi-target regression methods, including deep learning approaches, the Gaussian process and random forest models exhibit the lowest prediction errors. By reliably predicting and understanding wellbore behaviour, this research paves the way for more efficient and autonomous drilling operations in the future, bridging a critical gap in the industry's automation capabilities. The increase in penetration levels of distributed generation (DG) into the grid has raised concern about undetected islanding operations. Islanding is a phenomenon in which the grid-tied inverter of a distributed generation system, and some of the local loads are disconnected from the grid. If this condition is not detected and the generation (e.g. from a photovoltaic energy source) remains operative, the isolated DG system will stay energised by the inverter. The phase mismatch between the grid and the inverter voltage makes this scenario undesirable since it could be hazardous for the maintenance operator and could harm the inverter and loads in the event of an unsynchronised reconnection of the grid. Consequently, the article presented a novel hybrid active anti-islanding approach for fast and reliably detecting unintended islanding. For the modelling and experimental setup, a multiphase grid-tied photovoltaic distributed generating system was employed, and it was regarded as a viable application. Initially, the study introduces a fault-tolerant control (FTC) technique of data-driven predictive control to limit the impact of grid faults on inverters. Furthermore, the article suggested the Sandia frequency and voltage shift (SFVS) approach for inverter-based distributed generation to identify an islanding state. The approach employs a positive feedback gain to minimise NDZ and THD; moreover, the system does not affect the power quality. To minimise system damage, this scenario necessitates the use of effective islanding detection algorithms. This study suggests using empirical mode decomposition (EMD) to enhance power quality to extract detailed coefficients, which are subsequently processed to detect common transient fluctuations during islanding. In the grid-tied inverter, random forest (RF) is also utilised to categorise the condition as islanding or non-islanding. This exhibits an acceptable trade-off between output power quality and islanding detection effectiveness. The quality of the data and the selection of hyperparameters impact the performance of ML models. Following that, hyperparameter adjustment of the random forest model is done using the memetic firefly algorithm (MFA), which has a considerable impact on overall classification performance. The hyperparameters of the suggested RF model have been successfully calculated to attain the maximum accuracy and the least loss. Results demonstrate that the suggested method produces less THD (2.44) than the conventional detection, leading to faster islanding detection, a better non-detection zone of 0.3639 Hz, and a shorter detection time of 0.89 ms, respectively. Background: Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a procedure with high morbidity and mortality. Identifying patients for maximum benefit and risk assessment is crucial in the decision‐making process. This has led to the development of predictive risk models for HSCT in adults, which have limitations when applied to pediatric population. Our goal was to develop an automatic learning algorithm to predict survival in children with malignant disorders undergoing HSCT. Methods: We studied allogenic HSCTs performed on children with malignant disorders at a third‐level hospital between 1991 and 2021. Survival was analyzed using the Kaplan–Meier method, log‐rank test for the univariate analysis, and Cox regression for the multivariate analysis. A prognostic index was constructed based on these findings. Lastly, we constructed a predictive model using a random forest algorithm to forecast 1‐year survival after HSCT. Results: We analyzed 229 HSCTs in 201 patients with a median follow‐up of 1.64 years. Variables that impacted on the multivariate analysis were older age (hazard ratio [HR] 1.40, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.12–1.76, p =.003), oldest period of HSCT (HR 0.46, 95% CI 0.29–0.73, p <.001), and mismatched donor (HR 2.65, 95% CI 1.51–4.65, p =.001). Our prognostic index was associated with 3‐year overall survival (OS; p <.001). A random forest was developed using as variables: diagnosis, age, year of HSCT, time from diagnosis to HSCT, disease stage, donor type, and conditioning. This achieved 72% accuracy in predicting 1‐year OS. Conclusions: Our index and random forest was effective in predicting 1‐year survival. The Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) is a hydrological model for simulating and predicting runoff. Although powerful, SWMM can be computationally demanding. Therefore, we develop machine learning (ML) models to approximate the behavior of SWMM and expedite the task of predicting runoff. We perform a case study for the First Creek watershed in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. We train ML models using rainfall data and subcatchment characteristics and apply feature engineering and clustering to objectively compare the outputs from SWMM and ML models. The results show that random forests can predict runoff volume accurately, with a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 0.006 (0.001) ${10^6}$ 10 6 gallons, where predictions are made almost instantaneously. Background: Vestibular migraine (VM) and Menière's disease (MD) are two common causes of recurrent spontaneous vertigo. Using history, video-nystagmography and audiovestibular tests, we developed machine learning models to separate these two disorders. Methods: We recruited patients with VM or MD from a neurology outpatient facility. One hundred features from six "feature subsets": history, acute video-nystagmography and four laboratory tests (video head impulse test, vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials, caloric testing and audiogram) were used. We applied ten machine learning algorithms to develop classification models. Modelling was performed using three "tiers" of data availability to simulate three clinical settings. "Tier 1" used all available data to simulate the neuro-otology clinic, "Tier 2" used only history, audiogram and caloric test data, representing the general neurology clinic, and "Tier 3" used history alone as occurs in primary care. Model performance was evaluated using tenfold cross-validation. Results: Data from 160 patients with VM and 114 with MD were used for model development. All models effectively separated the two disorders for all three tiers, with accuracies of 85.77–97.81%. The best performing algorithms (AdaBoost and Random Forest) yielded accuracies of 97.81% (95% CI 95.24–99.60), 94.53% (91.09–99.52%) and 92.34% (92.28–96.76%) for tiers 1, 2 and 3. The best feature subset combination was history, acute video-nystagmography, video head impulse test and caloric testing, and the best single feature subset was history. Conclusions: Machine learning models can accurately differentiate between VM and MD and are promising tools to assist diagnosis by medical practitioners with diverse levels of expertise and resources. The escalating frequency and sophistication of cyber threats pose significant challenges to traditional intrusion detection methods. Signature-based misuse detection, hybrid detection, and anomaly detection, while effective in isolation, often struggle to keep pace with the ever-evolving tactics employed by attackers. This research stems from the pressing need to develop intrusion detection models that offer improved accuracy, adaptability, and robustness in the face of rapidly changing attack vectors. Our study leverages a comprehensive set of experiments conducted on diverse datasets, including N-BaIoT, NSL-KDD, and CICIDS2017. The primary focus is on the evaluation and comparison of machine learning algorithms such as Random Forest, XGBoost, and decision trees. Notably, our research culminates in the development of a hybrid intrusion detection model that combines the strengths of these algorithms. The results of our experiments indicate that the hybrid model, particularly when combining Random Forest and XGBoost, exhibits exceptional accuracy. This approach outperforms individual algorithms, achieving an accuracy rate of 97% in certain cases. We attribute this success to the ensemble learning approach, which capitalizes on the consensus of diverse classifiers. In conclusion, our research not only demonstrates the effectiveness of ensemble learning in enhancing intrusion detection but also underscores the importance of continuous adaptation in the face of evolving threats. The demand for high-performance computing (HPC) resources in computing fields such as machine learning has increased significantly in recent years. Computing power has been growing exponentially to keep up with this demand. However, these gains have not been able to translate to performance improvement in real-world applications. One of the biggest reasons for this is performance degradation in terms of input/output (I/O) due to the increased storage latency and complex parallel I/O architecture of accessing data in distributed storage systems. In this study, we analyze application-specific I/O patterns to gain a deeper understanding of I/O throughput and the interaction between applications and the I/O system. Specifically, we analyze the importance of each feature of I/O patterns through feature analysis based on the collected monitoring information. We also investigate the feasibility of identifying the application based on the analyzed key features. To this end, we present the analysis accuracy and confusion matrix of four algorithms, including random forest, which are widely used as classification algorithms in the experimental results. Misidentification errors in tumor marker tests can lead to serious diagnostic and treatment errors. This study aims to develop a method for detecting these errors using a machine learning (ML)-based delta check approach, overcoming limitations of conventional methods. We analyzed five tumor marker test results: alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), cancer antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), cancer antigen 125 (CA125), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and prostate-specific antigen (PSA). A total of 246,261 records were used in the analysis. Of these, 179,929 records were used for model training and 66,332 records for performance evaluation. We developed a misidentification error detection model based on the random forest (RF) and deep neural network (DNN) methods. We performed an in silico simulation with 1 % random sample shuffling. The performance of the developed models was evaluated and compared to conventional delta check methods such as delta percent change (DPC), absolute DPC (absDPC), and reference change values (RCV). The DNN model outperformed the RF, DPC, absDPC, and RCV methods in detecting sample misidentification errors. It achieved balanced accuracies of 0.828, 0.842, 0.792, 0.818, and 0.833 for AFP, CA19-9, CA125, CEA, and PSA, respectively. Although the RF method performed better than DPC and absDPC, it showed similar or lower performance compared to RCV. Our research results demonstrate that an ML-based delta check method can more effectively detect sample misidentification errors compared to conventional delta check methods. Background: Life satisfaction is a key component of students' subjective well‐being due to its impact on academic achievement and lifelong health. Although previous studies have investigated life satisfaction through different lenses, few of them employed machine learning (ML) approaches. Objective: Using ML algorithms, the current study predicts secondary students' life satisfaction from individual‐level variables. Method: Two supervised ML models, random forest (RF) and k‐nearest neighbours (KNN), were developed based on the UK data and the Japan data in PISA 2018. Results: Findings show that (1) both models yielded better performance on the UK data than on the Japanese data; (2) the RF model outperformed the KNN model in predicting students' life satisfaction; (3) meaning in life, student competition, teacher support, exposure to bullying and ICT resources at home and at school played important roles in predicting students' life satisfaction. Conclusions: Theoretically, this study highlights the multi‐dimensional nature of life satisfaction and identifies several key predictors. Methodologically, this study is the first to use ML to explore the predictors of life satisfaction. Practically, it serves as a reference for improving secondary students' life satisfaction. Classification methods with Machine Learning have been used in various fields, including volcanology. This method makes it possible to automatically perform data processing and classification on large scale data in a short time. Seismic time series data from volcanic earthquakes of Mt. Merapi are classified into five types of earthquakes, i.e.: Volcanic Type A (VTA), Volcanic Type B (VTB), Multiphase (MP), Low-frequency (LF) and Rockfall (RF), with a total sample data of 266 earthquakes, could be classified automatically using machine learning. The features of the signal are taken from the dominant frequency value, the spectral pattern that is formed, and the amplitude value to differentiate the earthquake dataset into each class. Classification is done using the XGBoost algorithm. Tests were carried out using various data test–train percentage to get the best result. Based on the XGBoost function test, which the best value obtained with an accuracy of testing the data is 76.67% using the 70%:30% train–test scenario. The results of this accuracy value are greater when compared to the accuracy value of previous studies with the SVM method which is 74.4% accuracy. This research focuses on understanding the spatial variation of Soil Organic Matter (SOM) and pH levels in the North of Morocco. The study employs a comprehensive approach to enhance predictive modelling, incorporating the Boruta algorithm for effective environmental covariates selection and optimizing model parameters through hyperparameter optimization. Utilizing a Random Forest (RF) model with remote sensing indices and topographic features, the research predicts SOM and pH to identify key contributors to their spatial variability. SOM prediction saw significant success, with a notable correlation to remote sensing indices such as the RVI, NDVI, and TNDVI. These indices, indicative of vegetation health and productivity, emerged as primary influencers of SOM. In comparison, the influence of topographic features like elevation, slope, and aspect was found to be less significant. Conversely, predicting pH was challenging due to the minimal spatial variability within the dataset. Addressing this limitation could involve dataset expansion or alternative models for low-correlated data handling. Despite the RF model's limited efficacy in pH prediction, an observable correlation between SOM and pH was identified, consistent with prior research. Areas with higher SOM exhibited lower pH values, indicating relative soil acidification from organic matter decomposition. The study's RF model demonstrated potential in SOM prediction using remote sensing indices, but enhancing pH prediction is essential. Future research may explore dataset expansion, diverse sampling, or testing alternative predictive models for better performance with low-correlated datasets. Aim: Malnutrition in pregnant women significantly affects both mother and child health. This research aims to identify the best machine learning (ML) techniques for predicting the nutritional status of pregnant women in Bangladesh and detect the most essential features based on the best-performed algorithm. Methods: This study used retrospective cross-sectional data from the Bangladeshi Demographic and Health Survey 2017–18. Different feature transformations and machine learning classifiers were applied to find the best transformation and classification model. Results: This investigation found that robust scaling outperformed all feature transformation methods. The result shows that the Random Forest algorithm with robust scaling outperforms all other machine learning algorithms with 74.75% accuracy, 57.91% kappa statistics, 73.36% precision, 73.08% recall, and 73.09% f1 score. In addition, the Random Forest algorithm had the highest precision (76.76%) and f1 score (71.71%) for predicting the underweight class, as well as an expected precision of 82.01% and f1 score of 83.78% for the overweight/obese class when compared to other algorithms with a robust scaling method. The respondent's age, wealth index, region, husband's education level, husband's age, and occupation were crucial features for predicting the nutritional status of pregnant women in Bangladesh. Web applications are important for various online businesses and operations because of their platform stability and low operation cost. The increasing usage of Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices within a network has contributed to the rise of network intrusion issues due to malicious Uniform Resource Locators (URLs). Generally, malicious URLs are initiated to promote scams, attacks, and frauds which can lead to high-risk intrusion. Several methods have been developed to detect malicious URLs in previous works. There has been a good amount of work done to detect malicious URLs using various methods such as random forest, regression, LightGBM, and more as reported in the literature. However, most of the previous works focused on the binary classification of malicious URLs and are tested on limited URL datasets. Nevertheless, the detection of malicious URLs remains a challenging task that remains open to research. Hence, this work proposed a stacking-based ensemble classifier to perform multi-class classification of malicious URLs on larger URL datasets to justify the robustness of the proposed method. This study focuses on obtaining lexical features directly from the URL to identify malicious websites. Then, the proposed stacking-based ensemble classifier is developed by integrating Random Forest, XGBoost, LightGBM, and CatBoost. In addition, hyperparameter tuning was performed using the Randomized Search method to optimize the proposed classifier. The proposed stacking-based ensemble classifier aims to take advantage of the performance of each machine learning model and aggregate the output to improve prediction accuracy. The classification accuracies of the machine learning model when applied individually are 93.6%, 95.2%, 95.7% and 94.8% for random forest, XGBoost, LightGBM, and CatBoost respectively. The proposed stacking-based ensemble classifier has shown significant results in classifying four classes of malicious URLs (phishing, malware, defacement, and benign) with an average accuracy of 96.8% when benchmarked with previous works.
