Purpose: Budget cuts on the one hand and the need to provide new and creative services on the other hand, have prompted managers and librarians to find ways to generate income and create opportunities. The purpose of this research is to identify the factors affecting income generation in Iran's public libraries. Method: This research is an applied study of the systematic review type and was carried out with the meta-analysis method. The statistical population includes all scientific and research articles on income generation and marketing in public libraries published in Persian language journals. The data collection tool was a researcher-made checklist and the vital tool used was Glynn. The collected data were analyzed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software (version 2.0). Findings: The findings showed that at the 95% confidence level, individuals, location, product, encouragement and persuasion, price, service quality, interaction with the audience, and personalization of services are effective components of income generation in libraries. Individuals have a strong effect size, and the location, product, encouragement and persuasion, and price have a medium effect size. The effect size of the service quality, interaction with the audience, and personalization of services are weak. The results of heterogeneity tests showed that the studies under review were heterogeneous, and thus, the random effect size was used. The funnel plot showed a high standard error and high bias. In other words, the distribution of studies is not normal and random. Creating a balance between income generation and the main mission is one of the important considerations for public libraries. Libraries can help to establish this balance by relying on strategies such as: focusing on providing high-quality services and resources, prioritizing the needs of society, clarifying the flow of income generation, and focusing on the goals and mission of public libraries. Among the measures that improve the flow of income in libraries are: creating suitable infrastructures with the changes and developments resulting from information and communication technologies and creating coherent information systems, providing diverse information services, developing appropriate programs and strategies for promoting products, reforming the working structure of the library, proper cooperation and communication with other entrepreneurial and philanthropic organizations, recruiting librarians and creative specialists and inviting experts from various scientific fields to provide information advice, evaluating the services and products offered, and providing services according to the information needs of users. Originality/value: Due to the budget cuts and economic recession imposed on government institutions, the implementation of revenue generation and marketing models in libraries has become more important than ever. This study seeks to identify the most important factors affecting income generation in public libraries by reviewing previous studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The study aims to determine the extent of COVID-19's impact on the libraries and information centers within Benguet. It identified the key differences in the effect of the pandemic on each type of library: public, special, school and academic. It recalled and documented the challenges faced by libraries and librarians. It determined which aspects of their library were affected and how they were modified in terms of their policies, personnel, physical space, services, collection, infodemic response and marketing. Design/methodology/approach: The study used the qualitative descriptive method approach, specifically narrative research design and conducted online focus group discussions in which 14 librarians with managerial or supervisory functions participated. This method was used to explore the topic holistically by using qualitative inquiry. It best suited the purpose of fully understanding the experiences of libraries during the pandemic. The recorded online focus group discussions conducted through Zoom were reviewed and analyzed to identify key themes and responses from the participants. The themes identified from the thematic analysis were further validated with the participants through correspondence, chats or e-mails. Findings: The findings showed that libraries were faced with challenges brought on by the lack of a written policy for the pandemic response, a lack of information communication and technology skills and resources, strict requirements on physical setup for pandemic compliance, budget cuts or realignments and delayed procurement, misinformation and users' lack of awareness of the new services offered by the library. Research limitations/implications: The study focused on the pandemic experiences of libraries and information centers in Baguio-Benguet, which was hailed as a model for local pandemic response, through the lenses of librarians with supervisory roles or functions. Practical implications: Libraries could reflect on their experiences in this pandemic to plan for future strategies that would be best implemented in situations where face-to-face services are not allowed. Originality/value: This study presented various best practices from different library institutions that could be emulated in the future. Many of these are still relevant regardless library services are going back to normal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Both branch managers who had social workers in their libraries, and those who did not, volunteered to be interviewed. Overall, perceptions of the trend were positive, but there are still issues to be resolved about the role of the social worker in the library, how social workers and librarians can best collaborate, and what appropriate supervision and assessment of library social workers require. The study examined the marketing of information services in Medical Libraries of Public Universities in the North-West zone of Nigeria. The objectives of the study are to identify the major services provided by the medical libraries and how to improve them. An explanatory sequential mixed method was used. The study involved medical libraries of four public Universities in the zone. A sample of 365 numbers of students and 4 numbers of heads f medical libraries were chosen for the study. Surveys, questionnaires, interviews and observation schedules were used as instruments for data collection. The findings reveal that current information services, exhibitions and displays of new resources were the most common service. Similarly, current information services along with exhibitions and displays of new resources are the services that most students appeared to be aware of and use. The study shows that current information services, exhibitions and displays of new resources and others are the most accessible services. Also, users were more satisfied with current information services. The challenges surrounding the marketing of information services include lack of awareness on some of the important services, the absence of a marketing policy and inadequate funding. It is therefore recommended that libraries should do all they could to ensure that those services are adequately marketed. There is a need for a marketing policy to guide the marketing of information services of medical libraries. Medical libraries should solicit adequate funding from their parent bodies and other donor agencies to meet their users' needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Facilitating access to the Internet is an important part of the public library mission, and is crucial in ensuring that all citizens have the possibility of access to contemporary digital information and public services. Part of managing this access relies on the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), an agreement between the library and the user regarding the conditions of access. This article reports on a national UK study of public library AUPs and the development of a new national model policy for public libraries, and which can be considered as 'best practice'. The article reports analysis of AUPs across the UK, with specific focus on how they communicate the use of filtering, and surveillance. This research adds new insight by studying the content of AUPs and contributes to the limited research that exists on public library AUPs in the UK. The research analyzed AUPs from 205 authorities in the UK, a return rate of 99.5%. The resulting conclusions and synthesis of relevant guidance on AUPs led to the formation of the model policy presented in this article. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study discussed challenges facing the Tanzania National Central Library (TNCL) in providing information services to prisoners. Data were collected using a structured interview and standardized questionnaire that were administered to 41 librarians. Face to Face interview was conducted with the Library Director and two Heads of Departments who were purposefully selected. Each interview lasted between 30 and 40 minutes. All 41 TNCL employees were included in the sample of the study. The quantitative data outputs were presented in the form of descriptive statistics, mainly in tabular form while qualitative data, which were subjected to content analysis were presented mainly in a narrative form. The findings indicated that TNCL uses various sources to disseminate information to prisoners. Moreover, they also indicated that TNCL faces several challenges including inadequate funds, poor infrasture systems, restrictive prison policies and lack of library buildings which is deterring provision of information services to prisoners. The study recommended that all of the raised challenges should be solved to facilitate information provision services to prisoners. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
