Objectives: This study aims to extend safety climate research by considering perceptions across the following three hierarchical levels within a workplace: (1) senior leaders/executives, (2) field leaders/supervisors, and (3) front-line employees. Methods: We conducted a quantitative survey study at a US utility company where we collected data related to safety climate perceptions and employee-reported safety behaviors across the different levels of organizational hierarchy. Results: The findings revealed the highest safety climate scores among senior leaders/executives, followed by field leaders/supervisors, and then employees, suggesting potential discrepancies between espoused and enacted safety values in the workplace. Conclusions: These results suggest that supervisors and top managers may have different mental models of workplace safety compared with employees. Consequently, assessing perceptions at different organizational levels provides a fuller picture of safety in the workplace. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper focuses on something not previously addressed by the literature, labour inspection in Spain in the first decades of the Franco dictatorship. Despite the Franco dictatorship's fascist-style approach of regulatory interventionism, this research shows a relapse into an abstentionist conception of labour inspection that led to worker vulnerability. The study has not only found, as was already known, normative similarities with the contemporaneous Italian and German dictatorships, but also similar (although more severe) limitations to the functioning of the inspection service. The slight improvement registered from 1947 onwards and the effort to achieve a limited equivalence with Western democracies also failed to notably improve working conditions, occupational safety and worker protection. The Labour Inspectorate suffered from understaffing and a lack of resources up to the very end of the dictatorship, something which the incipient democracy then inherited. Violence against employees in human services is a widespread problem worldwide and is reportedly on the rise. The topic in this article is organizational factors in preventing and managing violence against employees executed by service users. Data comes from 86 semi-structured and structured interviews with 101 employees and managers in one of Norway's most extensive national government agencies. The interviews were conducted in a study of an initiative against violence after an employee was murdered at work. The identified factors are related to (1) recognition of employees´ needs to feel safe and acknowledged, (2) project administration and leadership involvement and anchoring, (3) organizationally aligned and adjusted routines and understandings, (4) a generally increased focus on prevention and management of violence, (5) specific measures and (6) service delivery. The study also disclosed essential relationships between these factors, which must be acknowledged in the work to counteract violence. Workplace violence should be an issue of concern for all levels of management. Recognition of employees´ needs and anchoring in the entire organization are just as important as specific measures against violence. A good delivery of services is an important but sometimes neglected factor in the work against violence. Testing an adapted psychology of working theory (PWT) model (PWT; Duffy et al., 2016), this study examined how and when contextual constraints affect the ability of Chinese rural migrant workers (农民工) to attain decent work. Surveying a sample of 510 employed Chinese rural migrants at two time points, this study revealed that economic constraints and daily discrimination were indirectly related to attaining decent work through the mediating factors of work volition and psychological ownership over work. In addition, proactive personality moderated the relationships between daily discrimination and economic constraints and the two mediators. The results contribute to better understanding Chinese rural migrant workers' work experience, refining the PWT and enriching the literature on the underlying mechanisms and moderating factors associated with decent work attainment. The research results call for policy and social change to lessen economic constraints and discrimination at the macro level and organizational commitment to employee-oriented human resource management and counseling interventions to improve the quality of the work lives of rural migrant workers. Objective: COVID-19 has changed work conditions and instilled fear. However, research overlooked the contributing factors to fear of COVID-19 and its impact on well-being. We addressed this research gap and focused on the es-sential workforce of child care. Methods: Three samples of early childhood professionals (ECPs) (NT1 = 423, NT2 = 142, NT3 = 584) were gathered in Germany between June 2020 and May 2021. We tested via path analysis whether (1) fear of COVID-19 relates to well-being. (2) COVID-19-related work stressors relate to fear of COVID-19, and (3) fear of COVID-19 mediates the relationship of work stressors and well-being. Results: Findings of NT1 and NT3 lent support, while results of NT2 differed. Conclusions: This study under-lines the importance of adapting the work conditions during pandemics to re-duce the fear of infection and thus preserve ECPs' well-being. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the concept of scope of practice for occupational health nurses. Background. Occupational health nurses (OHNs) practice in different industries alone or with other nurses, providing care to employees. The demand on occupational health nurses to respond to increasing organizational healthcare needs of employees and other healthcare demands raises the question, do occupational health nurses understand their scope of practice? Occupational health nurses inadvertently practicing outside their scope may jeopardize their nursing licenses, and the safety and quality of care of employees. Method. A literature review was conducted to identify defining attributes, antecedents, and consequences for the concept of scope of practice for OHNs. Walker and Avant's eight-step framework for concept analysis was applied. Results. The defining attributes of the scope of practice for OHN include but are not limited to standards and guidelines: competency, public safety; practicing certificates; using sound judgement; regulatory restrictions, limitations of practice in occupational health settings, and type of educational qualifications. The antecedents include education, training, competency, regulation, and experience. The consequences include improved quality care when education, training, and competencies are met within the practice guidelines. Possible disciplinary actions against the nurse and employer violation of workplace safety standards may occur. Conclusion. OHNs must understand and practice within their scope of practice even when placed in situations by their employers that could defy the limits of their practice. Workplace violence against nurses is a significant global occupational health problem, with incidents of violence increasing in frequency since the COVID-19 pandemic began. In this article, we provide a review of recent legislative amendments meant to bolster workplace safety in health care in Canada, analyze legal cases where nurses were the victims of violence, and discuss what these legal reforms and decisions reveal about how nurses' work is treated within the Canadian legal system. Under criminal law, the limited number of cases we could find with oral or written sentencing decisions show that, historically, the fact a victim was a nurse was not always considered an aggravating factor on sentencing. Recent legislative amendments make this a specified aggravating factor and it is important to track the impact of these amendments when judges exercise their discretion in sentencing. Under employment law, it appears that, despite the government's efforts to increase the deterrence factor under legislation with significantly increased fines for employers who fail to protect their employees from injury, courts remain reluctant to impose such sanctions. In these cases, it is also important to track the impact of harsher penalties. We conclude that combating the widespread normalization of workplace violence in health care, and specifically against nurses, is acutely needed to help ensure that these ongoing legal reforms aimed at improving the safety of health workers are effective. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to provide a basic view, which use the social learning theory and self-efficacy to explore the relationship between employee care, stress status, and work style inside healthcare organization. Design/methodology/approach: This paper is a conceptual study on healthcare industrial workers recognize the commitment in workplace safety, making the importance of work adjustment, and maintenance in a safe environment. Hospitals have reduced costs and manpower, coupled with the implementation and promotion of various evaluations, which greatly increased the load on the staff of medical institutions, resulting in longer working hours, and worsening of the working conditions. Service-profit chain makes the same predictions about service users and the resulting effect on service worker satisfaction, error reduction, turnover, and other helpful employee outcomes. This research uses a survey tool as a structured questionnaire of Chi-square test for hospitalization incidents was taken in southern hospital center to analyze demographic changes and working conditions. Findings: This paper's findings are 297 administered questionnaires; 205 questionnaires were returned, giving a returned rate of 69%. After deducting 11 invalid questionnaires, 194 valid questionnaires were procured with an effective response rate of 65.3%. This study finds the age of hospital employees and the stress of their children are related to the reason for their hospitalization. The stress, which comes from children is significantly related to the reason for the hospitalization of employees. Originality/value: This paper is exploring the relevant factors of hospitalization, which will be a helpful improvement in the useful management of healthcare industrial. The pandemic of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has impacted all the dimensions of health and even raised a significant alarm for public health authorities and community due to its rapid spread and immense incidence. Forestry services work presents high risk for injury, illness, and fatality. How worker and employer views of workplace safety compare influences the strategies to address hazardous working conditions. Interviews with forestry services workers and employers revealed themes about occupational hazards and ways to prevent work-related injury. Workers identified hazards related to the social and natural environments, and injury prevention solutions focused on interventions beyond their control and based on employer responsibility. Employers characterized hazards within job task contexts and tied solutions to worker behaviors to improve job task performance. Discordance between worker and employer reports indicates inconsistent views about what safety measures should be provided and pursued to effectively reduce injury risk. Because many workers in the forest services industry are marginalized due to their immigrant documentation status and being racially/ethnically minoritized, power differentials between workers and employers can also influence how workplace safety and health measures are determined and implemented. Aims: This study aimed to (a) elucidate the effects of hospital management and unit supervisor support for patient safety on nurse speaking‐up behaviours and (b) identify potential mediators of this relationship. Background: Speaking‐up behaviour among nurses has emerged as a critical source of patient safety. Fuller understanding of the developmental mechanisms contributing to nurses' speaking‐up behaviours could help to enhance patient safety in health care organisations. Methods: A correlational approach was used to conduct a secondary analysis of cross‐sectional survey data collected from 450 staff nurses in Korea. Path analysis was performed to test potential mediation effects. Results: After controlling for nurses' hospital and unit tenure, hospital management and supervisor support for patient safety had significant direct and indirect effects on nurses' speaking‐up (promotive and prohibitive voice) behaviours through their perceptions of response to error and communication openness. Conclusions: Study findings indicate that when hospital management and supervisors emphasize patient safety and provide necessary resources, nurses are likely to perceive the hospital's safety culture more positively, in turn enhancing their speaking‐up behaviours. Implications for Nursing Management: Hospital administrators and nurse managers should clearly display hospital management and supervisory support for patient safety through implementation of related policies, resources, and communication standards. Client-perpetrated violence (CPV) against child protective services (CPS) workers is prevalent and problematic for workers and clients leading to psychological distress, physical injury, and compromised service delivery. With accumulating evidence of prevalence and detrimental consequences, few studies examine the characteristics of violent incidents among CPS workers. This study explores how CPS workers perceive CPV through exploring characteristics of incidents that they experienced. We applied components of the stress process model to consider the importance of workers' perspectives when interpreting violence and its effects. We used inductive, thematic analysis to analyze interview data focused on workers' experiences with CPV during their first 3 years as CPS workers. The qualitative subsample (N = 34) was drawn from the Florida Study of Professionals for Safe Families (FSPSF), a statewide, longitudinal sample of recently hired frontline child welfare workers. With few exceptions, workers experienced a variety of physical and nonphysical violence. Some experienced more frequent exposure than others, particularly those who defined yelling as violent. Workers identified predictable patterns of violent circumstances and people, and commonly felt that their agencies treated violence as "business as usual." The high prevalence of violence, often predictable, indicates the importance of promoting a violence-free workplace through agency culture and responding to workers' reports of CPV with empathy and support. In addition, given workers' diverse perceptions of CPV, a manual could provide definitions of CPV, procedures to increase worker safety, and procedures to respond effectively to violence. Nurses encounter unique and substantial challenges in professional practice. Nurses remain at the forefront of care but struggle with work-related fears and risk exposure. These challenges have significantly increased during unprecedented social unrest and the global pandemic making nurses less safe than in previous years. Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic jeopardizes continuity of operations of workplaces and the health and safety of workers. Exemplar workplace-related SARS-CoV-2 benchmarks are described and illustrated with empirical data. Methods: Benchmarks were collected over a 9-month period on a large workplace (N = 5500+). These ranged from quantitative indices associated with RT-qPCR targeted testing and random surveillance screening, surveillance for new variants of SARS-CoV-2, intensive contact tracing, case management, return to work procedures, to monitoring of antibody seropositive status. Results: Data and analyses substantiated effectiveness of interventions. This was evidenced in suppressed infection rates, rapid case identification and isolation, acceptance of the program by employees, documentation of presumptive immunity, and working relationships with senior management. Context: The nature of the work in saw mills carries a huge risk as the workers are exposed to various life-threatening hazards. Aims: This study was conducted to know the "Work place Wellbeing" of the saw mill workers, occupational Hazards identification and Risk assessment (HIRA) including hazard communication, occupational accidents, injuries and diseases. Settings and Design: The study was a cross sectional study amongst workers of saw mills. Methods and Material: A total of 219 saw mill workers were interviewed. "Work place wellbeing", was studied by using the "Workplace Wellbeing Questionnaire - Black Dog Institute" which includes four areas of workplace wellbeing viz. (1) Work satisfaction, (2) Organizational respect for the employee, (3) Employer care, and (4) Intrusion of work into private life. Reliability analysis was done and Cronbach's alpha was found. Association was found between the work place wellbeing and other demographic and occupational variables. Statistical Analysis Used: Proportions and Mann--Whitney U test. Results: Scores of all the participants fall in the medium scale for "work satisfaction". For "respect", 93.6% fall in the medium scale. In "employer care" 97.7% fall in medium category. All the workers scored in the medium scale for the "intrusion in private life". None of the scores were in low scale for any domain. Injury as an event was reported by 8.22%. Specific disease prevalence was highest for back ache as 72.1%. Hazard communication was done in 40% workers.
