In conjunction with pandemics, medical image data are growing exponentially. In some countries, hospitals collect biometric data from patients, such as fingerprints, iris, or faces. This data can be used for things like identity verification and security management. However, this medical data can be easily compromised by hackers. In order to prevent illegal tampering with medical images and invasion of privacy, a new texture fusion medical image encryption (TFMIE) algorithm derived from biometric images is proposed, which can encrypt the image using biometric information for storage or transmission. First, the medical image is decomposed into n-bit-planes by bit-plane decomposition. Secondly, a fusion image is generated by a biometric image with a circular local binary pattern and pixel-weighted average method. The fused image is further decomposed into n bit-planes through bit-plane decomposition and performs XOR operation with the original medical image in reverse order. Following the execution of the XOR operation, a new scrambling and diffusion algorithm based on a one-dimensional fractional trigonometric function (1DFTF) chaotic map is employed to form the cipher image. The experimental results show that compared with the existing methods, the average information entropy value of TFMIE is 7.99, and the average values of NPCR and UACI reach 0.9958 and 0.3346, respectively, which have strong key sensitivity, good robustness, and anti-attack ability. Equine odontoclastic tooth resorption and hypercementosis (EOTRH) is one of the horses’ dental diseases, mainly affecting the incisor teeth. An increase in the incidence of aged horses and a painful progressive course of the disease create the need for improved early diagnosis. Besides clinical findings, EOTRH recognition is based on the typical radiographic findings, including levels of dental resorption and hypercementosis. This study aimed to introduce digital processing methods to equine dental radiographic images and identify texture features changing with disease progression. The radiographs of maxillary incisor teeth from 80 horses were obtained. Each incisor was annotated by separate masks and clinically classified as 0, 1, 2, or 3 EOTRH degrees. Images were filtered by Mean, Median, Normalize, Bilateral, Binomial, CurvatureFlow, LaplacianSharpening, DiscreteGaussian, and SmoothingRecursiveGaussian filters independently, and 93 features of image texture were extracted using First Order Statistics (FOS), Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM), Neighbouring Gray Tone Difference Matrix (NGTDM), Gray Level Dependence Matrix (GLDM), Gray Level Run Length Matrix (GLRLM), and Gray Level Size Zone Matrix (GLSZM) approaches. The most informative processing was selected. GLCM and GLRLM return the most favorable features for the quantitative evaluation of radiographic signs of the EOTRH syndrome, which may be supported by filtering by filters improving the edge delimitation.

Simple Summary: Detecting horse state after exercise is critical for maximizing athletic performance. The horse's response to fatigue includes exercise termination or exercise continuation at a lower intensity, which significantly limit the results achieved in races and equestrian competition. As conventional methods of detecting and quantifying exercise effort have shown some limitations, infrared thermography was proposed as a method of contactless detection of exercise effect. The promising correlation between body surface temperature and exercise-dependent blood biomarkers has been demonstrated. As the application of conventional thermography is limited by low specificity, advanced thermal image analysis was proposed here to visualize the link between blood biomarkers and texture of thermal images. Twelve horses underwent standardized exercise tests for six consecutive days, and both thermal images and blood samples were collected before and after each test. The images were analyzed using four color models (RGB, red-green-blue; YUV, brightness-UV-components; YIQ, brightness-IQ-components; HSB, hue-saturation-brightness) and eight texture-features approaches, including 88 features in total. In contrast to conventional temperature measures, as many as twelve texture features in two color models (RGB, YIQ) were linked with blood biomarker levels as part of the horse's response to exercise. As the detection of horse state after exercise is constantly developing, a link between blood biomarkers and infrared thermography (IRT) was investigated using advanced image texture analysis. The aim of the study was to determine which combinations of RGB (red-green-blue), YUI (brightness-UV-components), YIQ (brightness-IQ-components), and HSB (hue-saturation-brightness) color models, components, and texture features are related to the blood biomarkers of exercise effect. Twelve Polish warmblood horses underwent standardized exercise tests for six consecutive days. Both thermal images and blood samples were collected before and after each test. All 144 obtained IRT images were analyzed independently for 12 color components in four color models using eight texture-feature approaches, including 88 features. The similarity between blood biomarker levels and texture features was determined using linear regression models. In the horses' thoracolumbar region, 12 texture features (nine in RGB, one in YIQ, and two in HSB) were related to blood biomarkers. Variance, sum of squares, and sum of variance in the RGB were highly repeatable between image processing protocols. The combination of two approaches of image texture (histogram statistics and gray-level co-occurrence matrix) and two color models (RGB, YIQ), should be considered in the application of digital image processing of equine IRT. This study innovatively applies digital imaging techniques to quantify the irregular nanoscale roughness of the surfaces of plasma-etched, hydrophobic polymer films. The main objective is to verify meaningful roughness indicators that predict the surface wettability by quantifying the surface nanostructures in a simple way. Five texture parameters were extracted from SEM images by box-counting and a gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) algorithm, which together provide 2D spatial information of roughness features. Also, five parameters related to height and aspect ratio profiles of roughness were obtained using AFM analysis. The 2D texture parameters and AFM roughness profiles were statistically correlated, and either set could be used to predict surface wettability with high explanatory power. The prediction was most powerful when variables of fractal dimension , arithmetic mean height Ra of roughness features in the assessed area, and skewness Rsk of height in the assessed area were used in the regression model. This result indicates that both the height profile and 2D spatial distribution of roughness features strongly affect surface wettability. The correlation of gray levels with the neighboring pixels was statistically correlated with Ra and Rsk , and a simple predictive model was developed using fractal dimension and correlation. This research is significant in that it explored a novel analytical approach in assessing the roughness characteristics to predict surface wettability. Purpose: In contrast-enhanced abdominopelvic CT (CE-APCT) for oncologic follow-up, ultrahigh-resolution CT (UHRCT) may improve depiction of fine lesions and low-dose scans are desirable for minimizing the potential adverse effects by ionizing radiation. We compared image quality and radiologists' acceptance of model-based iterative (MBIR) and deep learning (DLR) reconstructions of low-dose CE-APCT by UHRCT. Methods: Using our high-resolution (matrix size: 1024) and low-dose (tube voltage 100 kV; noise index: 20–40 HU) protocol, we scanned phantoms to compare the modulation transfer function and noise power spectrum between MBIR and DLR and assessed findings in 36 consecutive patients who underwent CE-APCT (noise index: 35 HU; mean CTDIvol: 4.2 ± 1.6 mGy) by UHRCT. We used paired t-test to compare objective noise and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) and Wilcoxon signed-rank test to compare radiologists' subjective acceptance regarding noise, image texture and appearance, and diagnostic confidence between MBIR and DLR using our routine protocol (matrix size: 512; tube voltage: 120 kV; noise index: 15 HU) for reference. Results: Phantom studies demonstrated higher spatial resolution and lower low-frequency noise by DLR than MBIR at equal doses. Clinical studies indicated significantly worse objective noise, CNR, and subjective noise by DLR than MBIR, but other subjective characteristics were better (P < 0.001 for all). Compared with the routine protocol, subjective noise was similar or better by DLR, and other subjective characteristics were similar or worse by MBIR. Infrared thermography (IRT) was applied as a potentially useful tool in the detection of pregnancy in equids, especially native or wildlife. IRT measures heat emission from the body surface, which increases with the progression of pregnancy as blood flow and metabolic activity in the uterine and fetal tissues increase. Conventional IRT imaging is promising; however, with specific limitations considered, this study aimed to develop novel digital processing methods for thermal images of pregnant mares to detect pregnancy earlier with higher accuracy. In the current study, 40 mares were divided into non-pregnant and pregnant groups and imaged using IRT. Thermal images were transformed into four color models (RGB, YUV, YIQ, HSB) and 10 color components were separated. From each color component, features of image texture were obtained using Histogram Statistics and Grey-Level Run-Length Matrix algorithms. The most informative color/feature combinations were selected for further investigation, and the accuracy of pregnancy detection was calculated. The image texture features in the RGB and YIQ color models reflecting increased heterogeneity of image texture seem to be applicable as potential indicators of pregnancy. Background: Tooth segmentation on intraoral scanned (IOS) data is a prerequisite for clinical applications in digital workflows. Current state-of-the-art methods lack the robustness to handle variability in dental conditions. This study aims to propose and evaluate the performance of a convolutional neural network (CNN) model for automatic tooth segmentation on IOS images. Methods: A dataset of 761 IOS images (380 upper jaws, 381 lower jaws) was acquired using an intraoral scanner. The inclusion criteria included a full set of permanent teeth, teeth with orthodontic brackets, and partially edentulous dentition. A multi-step 3D U-Net pipeline was designed for automated tooth segmentation on IOS images. The model's performance was assessed in terms of time and accuracy. Additionally, the model was deployed on an online cloud-based platform, where a separate subsample of 18 IOS images was used to test the clinical applicability of the model by comparing three modes of segmentation: automated artificial intelligence-driven (A-AI), refined (R-AI), and semi-automatic (SA) segmentation. Results: The average time for automated segmentation was 31.7 ± 8.1 s per jaw. The CNN model achieved an Intersection over Union (IoU) score of 91%, with the full set of teeth achieving the highest performance and the partially edentulous group scoring the lowest. In terms of clinical applicability, SA took an average of 860.4 s per case, whereas R-AI showed a 2.6-fold decrease in time (328.5 s). Furthermore, R-AI offered higher performance and reliability compared to SA, regardless of the dentition group. Conclusions: The 3D U-Net pipeline was accurate, efficient, and consistent for automatic tooth segmentation on IOS images. Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore whether machine learning can be used to establish an effective model for the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) by using texture features extracted from cerebellar gray matter and white matter, so as to identify subtle changes that cannot be observed by the naked eye. Method: This study involved a data collection period from June 2010 to March 2023, including 374 subjects from two cohorts. The Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) served as the training set, with control group and PD patients (HC: 102 and PD: 102) from 24 global sites. Our institution's data was utilized as the test set (HC: 91 and PD: 79). Machine learning was employed to establish multiple models for PD diagnosis based on texture features of the cerebellum's gray and white matter. Results underwent evaluation through 5-fold cross-validation analysis, calculating the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for each model. The performance of each model was compared using the Delong test, and the interpretability of the optimized model was further augmented by employing Shapley additive explanations (SHAP). Results: The AUCs for all pipelines in the validation dataset were compared using FeAture Explorer (FAE) software. Among the models established by Kruskal-Wallis (KW) and logistic regression via Lasso (LRLasso), the AUC was highest using the “one-standard error” rule. 'WM_original_glrlm_GrayLevelNonUniformity' was considered the most stable and predictive feature. Conclusion: The texture features of cerebellar gray matter and white matter combined with machine learning may have potential value in the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, in which the heterogeneity of white matter may be a more valuable imaging marker. With the continuous progress of science and technology, image processing techniques have been used increasingly in recent years. Image processing plays an indispensable role in the fields of computer vision, artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, and related fields. Improvements in basic algorithms and the development of new algorithms have resulted in considerable innovation and progress. This paper is devoted to finding new game applications in a branch of image processing. It introduces an analysis model proposed by the author and discusses the relationship between roughness in the frequency domain and visual image interpretation. By using the concept of roughness, we separated the image features into meaningful information and residual information and analysed the image in the frequency domain. The results were compared with those of traditional image processing methods. The starting point is the visual identification of a feature based on human interpretation. The image information was separated into meaningful features and the residual component to reduce the redundancy of the model. This allowed for a sparse representation of the feature information in the image. By analysing the meaningful features and residual components of an image separately, we established a relationship between the results and the original images. Parameters such as texture, morphology, and the degree of blurring were considered and we developed a parameter called "frequency roughness". The algorithm incorporates the concepts of frequency and roughness and the roughness is determined in the frequency domain. The frequency roughness algorithm successfully separated the rough features in the frequency domain and calculated the residual value in an image. This model provided more accurate image processing results than comparable methods. This paper includes an analysis and game applications of the proposed model for de-blurring, image enhancement, recognition, and other image processing tasks. Simple Summary: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) accounts for at least 80% of renal tumours worldwide. The grading of clear cell carcinoma is crucial for its management; therefore, it is important to distinguish the ccRCC grade pre-operatively. The aim of this research is to differentiate high- from low-grade ccRCC non-invasively using machine learning (ML) and radiomics features extracted from pre-operative computed tomography (CT) scans, taking into consideration the tumour sub-region that offers the greatest accuracy when grading. Furthermore, radiomics and machine learning were compared with biopsy-determined grading in a sub-group with resection histopathology as a reference standard. Background: Renal cancers are among the top ten causes of cancer-specific mortality, of which the ccRCC subtype is responsible for most cases. The grading of ccRCC is important in determining tumour aggressiveness and clinical management. Objectives: The objectives of this research were to predict the WHO/ISUP grade of ccRCC pre-operatively and characterise the heterogeneity of tumour sub-regions using radiomics and ML models, including comparison with pre-operative biopsy-determined grading in a sub-group. Methods: Data were obtained from multiple institutions across two countries, including 391 patients with pathologically proven ccRCC. For analysis, the data were separated into four cohorts. Cohorts 1 and 2 included data from the respective institutions from the two countries, cohort 3 was the combined data from both cohort 1 and 2, and cohort 4 was a subset of cohort 1, for which both the biopsy and subsequent histology from resection (partial or total nephrectomy) were available. 3D image segmentation was carried out to derive a voxel of interest (VOI) mask. Radiomics features were then extracted from the contrast-enhanced images, and the data were normalised. The Pearson correlation coefficient and the XGBoost model were used to reduce the dimensionality of the features. Thereafter, 11 ML algorithms were implemented for the purpose of predicting the ccRCC grade and characterising the heterogeneity of sub-regions in the tumours. Results: For cohort 1, the 50% tumour core and 25% tumour periphery exhibited the best performance, with an average AUC of 77.9% and 78.6%, respectively. The 50% tumour core presented the highest performance in cohorts 2 and 3, with average AUC values of 87.6% and 76.9%, respectively. With the 25% periphery, cohort 4 showed AUC values of 95.0% and 80.0% for grade prediction when using internal and external validation, respectively, while biopsy histology had an AUC of 31.0% for the classification with the final grade of resection histology as a reference standard. The CatBoost classifier was the best for each of the four cohorts with an average AUC of 80.0%, 86.5%, 77.0% and 90.3% for cohorts 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Conclusions: Radiomics signatures combined with ML have the potential to predict the WHO/ISUP grade of ccRCC with superior performance, when compared to pre-operative biopsy. Moreover, tumour sub-regions contain useful information that should be analysed independently when determining the tumour grade. Objectives: Despite the difficulty in distinguishing between squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) on the basis of medical imaging examinations, the two conditions have completely different treatment methods and prognoses. Therefore, differentiation of SCC from MRONJ on imaging examinations is very important. This study aimed to distinguish SCC from MRONJ by performing texture analysis using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) short-tau inversion recovery images. Methods: This retrospective case–control study included 14 patients with SCC of the lower gingiva and 35 with MRONJ of the mandible who underwent MRI and computed tomography (CT) for suspected SCC or MRONJ. SCC was identified by histopathological examination of tissues excised during surgery. The radiomics features of SCC and MRONJ were analyzed using the open-access software MaZda version 3.3 (Technical University of Lodz, Institute of Electronics, Poland). CT was used to evaluate the presence or absence of qualitative findings (sclerosis, sequestrum, osteolysis, periosteal reaction, and cellulitis) of SCC and MRONJ. Results: Among the 19 texture features selected using MaZda feature-reduction methods, SCC of the gingiva and MRONJ of the mandible revealed differences in two histogram features, one absolute gradient feature, and 16 Gy level co-occurrence matrix features. In particular, the percentile, angular second moment, entropy, and difference entropy exhibited excellent diagnostic performance. Conclusion: Non-contrast-enhanced MRI texture analysis revealed differences in texture parameters between mandibular SCC and mandibular MRONJ. Due to the nature of Selective Laser Melting process, the built parts suffer from high chances of defects formation. Powders quality have a significant impact on the final attributes of SLM-manufactured items. From a processing standpoint, it is critical to ensure proper powder distribution and compaction in each layer of the powder bed, which is impacted by particle size distribution, packing density, flowability, and sphericity of the powder particles. Layer-by-layer study of the process can provide better understanding of the effect of powder bed on the final part quality. Image-based processing technique could be used to examine the quality of parts fabricated by Selective Laser Melting through layerwise monitoring and to evaluate the results achieved by other techniques. In this paper, a not supervised methodology based on Digital Image Processing through the build-in machine camera is proposed. Since the limitation of the optical system in terms of resolution, positioning, lighting, field-of-view, many efforts were paid to the calibration and to the data processing. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic disease characterized by bleeding and ulcers in the colon. Disease severity assessment via colonoscopy videos is time-consuming and only focuses on the most severe lesions. Automated detection methods enable fine-grained assessment but depend on the training set quality. To suit the local clinical setup, an internal training dataset containing only rough bounding box annotations around lesions was utilized. Following previous works, we propose to use linear models in suitable color spaces to detect lesions. We introduce an efficient sampling scheme for exploring the set of linear classifiers and removing trivial models i.e., those showing zero false negative or positive ratios. Bounding boxes lead to exaggerated false detection ratios due to mislabeled pixels, especially in the corners, resulting in decreased model accuracy. Therefore, we propose to evaluate the model sensitivity on the annotation level instead of the pixel level. Our sampling strategy can eliminate up to 25% of trivial models. Despite the limited quality of annotations, the detectors achieved better performance in comparison with the state-of-the-art methods. When tested on a small subset of endoscopic images, the best models exhibit low variability. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its strain on healthcare resources, this study presents a comprehensive review of various techniques that can be used to integrate image compression techniques and statistical texture analysis to optimize the storage of Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) files. In evaluating four predominant image compression algorithms, i.e., discrete cosine transform (DCT), discrete wavelet transform (DWT), the fractal compression algorithm (FCA), and the vector quantization algorithm (VQA), this study focuses on their ability to compress data while preserving essential texture features such as contrast, correlation, angular second moment (ASM), and inverse difference moment (IDM). A pivotal observation concerns the direction-independent Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) in DICOM analysis, which reveals intriguing variations between two intermediate scans measured with texture characteristics. Performance-wise, the DCT, DWT, FCA, and VQA algorithms achieved minimum compression ratios (CRs) of 27.87, 37.91, 33.26, and 27.39, respectively, with maximum CRs at 34.48, 68.96, 60.60, and 38.74. This study also undertook a statistical analysis of distinct CT chest scans from COVID-19 patients, highlighting evolving texture patterns. Finally, this work underscores the potential of coupling image compression and texture feature quantification for monitoring changes related to human chest conditions, offering a promising avenue for efficient storage and diagnostic assessment of critical medical imaging. Simple Summary: The prognosis for patients with glioblastoma (GBM) remains dismal despite advances in tumor detection and treatment. The aim of our retrospective study was to develop a multiparametric model incorporating baseline MRI imaging, histopathological biomarkers, and demographic data to predict prognosis in patients with GBM. A training model was developed with 116 patients and validated with an external cohort of 40 patients. Three significant variables were identified as independent predictors of survival ≥ 18 months: radiomics, age, and MGMT status. Background: Clinical, histopathological, and imaging variables have been associated with prognosis in patients with glioblastoma (GBM). We aimed to develop a multiparametric radiogenomic model incorporating MRI texture features, demographic data, and histopathological tumor biomarkers to predict prognosis in patients with GBM. Methods: In this retrospective study, patients were included if they had confirmed diagnosis of GBM with histopathological biomarkers and pre-operative MRI. Tumor segmentation was performed, and texture features were extracted to develop a predictive radiomic model of survival (<18 months vs. ≥18 months) using multivariate analysis and Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regularization to reduce the risk of overfitting. This radiomic model in combination with clinical and histopathological data was inserted into a backward stepwise logistic regression model to assess survival. The diagnostic performance of this model was reported for the training and external validation sets. Results: A total of 116 patients were included for model development and 40 patients for external testing validation. The diagnostic performance (AUC/sensitivity/specificity) of the radiomic model generated from seven texture features in determination of ≥18 months survival was 0.71/69.0/70.3. Three variables remained as independent predictors of survival, including radiomics (p = 0.004), age (p = 0.039), and MGMT status (p = 0.025). This model yielded diagnostic performance (AUC/sensitivity/specificity) of 0.77/81.0/66.0 (training) and 0.89/100/78.6 (testing) in determination of survival ≥ 18 months. Conclusions: Results show that our radiogenomic model generated from radiomic features at baseline MRI, age, and MGMT status can predict survival ≥ 18 months in patients with GBM. Simple Summary: Bladder cancer is the sixth most common cancer in the United States. The prognosis is excellent for localized forms, but the survival rates drop significantly when cancer invades the smooth muscle of the bladder. Imaging is essential for the accurate staging, prognosis, and assessment of therapeutic efficacy in bladder cancer and has the potential to guide personalized treatment strategies. Computed tomography has traditionally been the standard modality, but magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the emerging technique of choice for its superior soft tissue contrast without exposure to ionizing radiation. Multiparametric (mp)MRI provides physiological data interrogating the biology of the tumor, as well as high-resolution anatomical images. Advanced MRI techniques have enabled new imaging-based clinical endpoints, including novel scoring systems for tumor staging. Artificial intelligence (AI) holds the potential for the automated discovery of clinically relevant patterns in mpMRI images of the bladder. This review focuses on the principles, applications, and performance of mpMRI for bladder imaging. Quantitative imaging biomarkers (QIBs) derived from mpMRI are increasingly used in oncological applications, including tumor staging, prognosis, and assessment of treatment response. To standardize mpMRI acquisition and interpretation, an expert panel developed the Vesical Imaging–Reporting and Data System (VI-RADS). Many studies confirm the standardization and high degree of inter-reader agreement to discriminate muscle invasiveness in bladder cancer, supporting VI-RADS implementation in routine clinical practice. The standard MRI sequences for VI-RADS scoring are anatomical imaging, including T2w images, and physiological imaging with diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI). Physiological QIBs derived from analysis of DW- and DCE-MRI data and radiomic image features extracted from mpMRI images play an important role in bladder cancer. The current development of AI tools for analyzing mpMRI data and their potential impact on bladder imaging are surveyed. AI architectures are often implemented based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs), focusing on narrow/specific tasks. The application of AI can substantially impact bladder imaging clinical workflows; for example, manual tumor segmentation, which demands high time commitment and has inter-reader variability, can be replaced by an autosegmentation tool. Background and Objective: Dental panoramic radiographs are utilized in computer-aided image analysis, which detects abnormal tissue masses by analyzing the produced image capacity to recognize patterns of intensity fluctuations. This is done to reduce the need for invasive biopsies for arriving to a diagnosis. The aim of the current study was to examine and compare the accuracy of several texture analysis techniques, such as Grey Level Run Length Matrix (GLRLM), Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM), and wavelet analysis in recognizing dental cyst, tumor, and abscess lesions. Materials & Methods: The current retrospective study retrieved a total of 172 dental panoramic radiographs with lesion including dental cysts, tumors, or abscess. Radiographs that failed to meet technical criteria for diagnostic quality (such as significant overlap of teeth, a diffuse image, or distortion) were excluded from the sample. The methodology adopted in the study comprised of five stages. At first, the radiographs are improved, and the area of interest was segmented manually. A variety of feature extraction techniques, such GLCM, GLRLM, and the wavelet analysis were used to gather information from the area of interest. Later, the lesions were classified as a cyst, tumor, abscess, or using a support vector machine (SVM) classifier. Eventually, the data was transferred into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) (version 21) was used to conduct the statistical analysis. Initially descriptive statistics were computed. For inferential analysis, statistical significance was determined by a p value < 0.05. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were used to find the significant difference between assessed and actual diagnosis. Results: The findings demonstrate that 98% accuracy was achieved using GLCM, 91% accuracy using Wavelet analysis & 95% accuracy using GLRLM in distinguishing between dental cyst, tumor, and abscess lesions. The area under curve (AUC) number indicates that GLCM achieves a high degree of accuracy. The results achieved excellent accuracy (98%) using GLCM. Conclusion: The GLCM features can be used for further research. After improving the performance and training, it can support routine histological diagnosis and can assist the clinicians in arriving at accurate and spontaneous treatment plans. Infrared thermography (IRT) was applied as a potentially useful tool in the detection of pregnancy in equids, especially native or wildlife. IRT measures heat emission from the body surface, which increases with the progression of pregnancy as blood flow and metabolic activity in the uterine and fetal tissues increase. Conventional IRT imaging is promising; however, with specific limitations considered, this study aimed to develop novel digital processing methods for thermal images of pregnant mares to detect pregnancy earlier with higher accuracy. In the current study, 40 mares were divided into non-pregnant and pregnant groups and imaged using IRT. Thermal images were transformed into four color models (RGB, YUV, YIQ, HSB) and 10 color components were separated. From each color component, features of image texture were obtained using Histogram Statistics and Grey-Level Run-Length Matrix algorithms. The most informative color/feature combinations were selected for further investigation, and the accuracy of pregnancy detection was calculated. The image texture features in the RGB and YIQ color models reflecting increased heterogeneity of image texture seem to be applicable as potential indicators of pregnancy. Their application in IRT-based pregnancy detection in mares allows for earlier recognition of pregnant mares with higher accuracy than the conventional IRT imaging technique.

Defrost control using digital image processing is a potential, economical, and energy-saving solution for air-source heat pump or refrigeration system, comparing with currently studied or used direct/indirect measuring methods. However, under complex operating condition of different shooting angles, lighting conditions, and pixel level, which are common in refrigeration system, the accuracy of frost state recognition with existing digital image processing methods decrease dramatically. Therefore, a new method based on optimized gray level co-occurrence matrix and new characterization parameter combination to extract image texture characteristics, combining extreme learning machine algorithm (OGLCM-ELM), is proposed for the first time. An experimental rig for evaporator frosting image under different lighting intensity, shooting angle and pixel level is set up. The collected experimental image data are divided into 3 classifications (Frostless, light frost, and heavy frost) or 2 classifications ((Frostless + light frost, and heavy frost)). The results show for ternary classification, OGLCM-ELM reveals significantly higher recognition accuracy then existing methods, average accuracy is as higher as 98.14%. It is also 5.28% and 3.14% higher than those of OGLCM-SVM, OGLCM-BP. Other performance parameters, precision, recall, F1-score, and calculating time are also totally better than other methods. For binary classification. the average accuracy of OGLCM-ELM even reaches 99% under complex operating condition, indicating it is a practical and potential technology for defrost control. Simple Summary: Overloading of the horse's thoracolumbar region is a serious problem mainly affecting sport and school horses during their daily under-saddle work. As the human population becomes heavier, the effect of rider bodyweight on equine welfare and performance requires further investigation. This study used infrared thermography to assess the effect of rider:horse bodyweight ratio on the horse's thoracolumbar region by introducing advanced digital image processing. Twelve horses during regular work were ridden by each of six riders assigned to light (L), moderate (M), and heavy (H) groups. Thermal images of the back region were taken before and after standard exercise and underwent conventional analysis and texture analysis where the thermal images were separated into red, green, and blue components. Four areas of the horse's thoracolumbar region were annotated to represent the withers area, the thoracic spine area, and the left and right areas of back muscles. Among 372 returned features, 75 texture features differed between bodyweight ratio groups, whereas the conventional thermal features did not. Contrary to conventional thermal features, the consistent measurable differences in texture features were evidenced predominantly in the red component of thermal images when the texture heterogeneity measures, such as InvDefMom, SumEntrp, Entropy, DifVarnc, and DifEntrp, were considered. Appropriate matching of rider–horse sizes is becoming an increasingly important issue of riding horses' care, as the human population becomes heavier. Recently, infrared thermography (IRT) was considered to be effective in differing the effect of 10.6% and 21.3% of the rider:horse bodyweight ratio, but not 10.1% and 15.3%. As IRT images contain many pixels reflecting the complexity of the body's surface, the pixel relations were assessed by image texture analysis using histogram statistics (HS), gray-level run-length matrix (GLRLM), and gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) approaches. The study aimed to determine differences in texture features of thermal images under the impact of 10–12%, >12 ≤15%, >15 <18% rider:horse bodyweight ratios, respectively. Twelve horses were ridden by each of six riders assigned to light (L), moderate (M), and heavy (H) groups. Thermal images were taken pre- and post-standard exercise and underwent conventional and texture analysis. Texture analysis required image decomposition into red, green, and blue components. Among 372 returned features, 95 HS features, 48 GLRLM features, and 96 GLCH features differed dependent on exercise; whereas 29 HS features, 16 GLRLM features, and 30 GLCH features differed dependent on bodyweight ratio. Contrary to conventional thermal features, the texture heterogeneity measures, InvDefMom, SumEntrp, Entropy, DifVarnc, and DifEntrp, expressed consistent measurable differences when the red component was considered. Today performance and operational efficiency of computer systems on digital image processing are exacerbated owing to the increased complexity of image processing. It is also difficult for image processors based on complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) transistors to continuously increase the integration density, causing by their underlying physical restriction and economic costs. However, such obstacles can be eliminated by non-volatile resistive memory technologies (known as memristors), arising from their compacted area, speed, power consumption high efficiency, and in-memory computing capability. This review begins with presenting the image processing methods based on pure algorithm and conventional CMOS-based digital image processing strategies. Subsequently, current issues faced by digital image processing and the strategies adopted for overcoming these issues, are discussed. The state-of-the-art memristor technologies and their challenges in digital image processing applications are also introduced, such as memristor-based image compression, memristor-based edge and line detections, and voice and image recognition using memristors. Multimodal medical fusion images are important for clinical diagnosis because they can better reflect the location of disease and provide anatomically detailed information. Existing medical image fusion methods can cause significant information loss in fusion images to varying degrees. Therefore, we designed a residual transformer fusion network (RTFusion): a multimodal fusion network with significant information enhancement. We use the residual transformer to make the image information interact remotely to ensure the global information of the image and use the residual structure to enhance the feature information to prevent information loss. Then the channel attention and spatial attention module (CASAM) is added to the fusion process to enhance the significant information of the fusion image, and the feature interaction module is used to promote the interaction of specific information of the source image. Finally, the loss function of the block calculation is designed to drive the fusion network to retain rich texture details, structural information, and color information, to optimize the subjective visual effect of the image. Extensive experiments show that our method can better recover the significant information of the source image and outperform other advanced methods in subjective visual description and objective metric evaluation. This study is aimed to evaluate effects of deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) on image quality in single-energy CT (SECT) and dual-energy CT (DECT), in reference to adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction-V (ASIR-V). The Gammex 464 phantom was scanned in SECT and DECT modes at three dose levels (5, 10, and 20 mGy). Raw data were reconstructed using six algorithms: filtered back-projection (FBP), ASIR-V at 40% (AV-40) and 100% (AV-100) strength, and DLIR at low (DLIR-L), medium (DLIR-M), and high strength (DLIR-H), to generate SECT 120kVp images and DECT 120kVp-like images. Objective image quality metrics were computed, including noise power spectrum (NPS), task transfer function (TTF), and detectability index (d′). Subjective image quality evaluation, including image noise, texture, sharpness, overall quality, and low- and high-contrast detectability, was performed by six readers. DLIR-H reduced overall noise magnitudes from FBP by 55.2% in a more balanced way of low and high frequency ranges comparing to AV-40, and improved the TTF values at 50% for acrylic inserts by average percentages of 18.32%. Comparing to SECT 20 mGy AV-40 images, the DECT 10 mGy DLIR-H images showed 20.90% and 7.75% improvement in d′ for the small-object high-contrast and large-object low-contrast tasks, respectively. Subjective evaluation showed higher image quality and better detectability. Computed tomography (CT) is an imaging technique extensively used in medical treatment, but too much radiation dose in a CT scan will cause harm to the human body. Decreasing the dose of radiation will result in increased noise and artifacts in the reconstructed image, blurring the internal tissue and edge details. To get high-quality CT images, we present a multi-scale feature fusion network (MSFLNet) for low-dose CT (LDCT) denoising. In our MSFLNet, we combined multiple feature extraction modules, effective noise reduction modules, and fusion modules constructed using the attention mechanism to construct a horizontally connected multi-scale structure as the overall architecture of the network, which is used to construct different levels of feature maps at all scales. We innovatively define a composite loss function composed of pixel-level loss based on MS-SSIM-L1 and edge-based edge loss for LDCT denoising. In short, our approach learns a rich set of features that combine contextual information from multiple scales while maintaining the spatial details of denoised CT images. Our laboratory results indicate that compared with the existing methods, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) value of CT images of the AAPM dataset processed by the new model is 33.6490, and the structural similarity (SSIM) value is 0.9174, which also achieves good results on the Piglet dataset with different doses. To help readers better understand the current research status and ideas, this article provides a detailed overview of the working mechanisms and use cases of commonly used radiological imaging and histopathology, the basic architecture of deep learning, classical pretrained models, common methods to overcome overfitting, and the application of deep learning in medical image-based cancer diagnosis. Finally, the data, label, model, and radiomics were discussed specifically and the current challenges and future research hotspots were discussed and analyzed. (1) Background: The application of deep learning technology to realize cancer diagnosis based on medical images is one of the research hotspots in the field of artificial intelligence and computer vision. Due to the rapid development of deep learning methods, cancer diagnosis requires very high accuracy and timeliness as well as the inherent particularity and complexity of medical imaging. A comprehensive review of relevant studies is necessary to help readers better understand the current research status and ideas. (2) Methods: Five radiological images, including X-ray, ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission computed tomography (PET), and histopathological images, are reviewed in this paper. The basic architecture of deep learning and classical pretrained models are comprehensively reviewed. In particular, advanced neural networks emerging in recent years, including transfer learning, ensemble learning (EL), graph neural network, and vision transformer (ViT), are introduced. Five overfitting prevention methods are summarized: batch normalization, dropout, weight initialization, and data augmentation. The application of deep learning technology in medical image-based cancer analysis is sorted out. (3) Results: Deep learning has achieved great success in medical image-based cancer diagnosis, showing good results in image classification, image reconstruction, image detection, image segmentation, image registration, and image synthesis. However, the lack of high-quality labeled datasets limits the role of deep learning and faces challenges in rare cancer diagnosis, multi-modal image fusion, model explainability, and generalization. (4) Conclusions: There is a need for more public standard databases for cancer. The pre-training model based on deep neural networks has the potential to be improved, and special attention should be paid to the research of multimodal data fusion and supervised paradigm. One of the most common challenges in brain MRI scans is to perform different MRI sequences depending on the type and properties of tissues. Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary malignant brain tumor in adults. The standard treatment for GBM consists of surgical resection followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy and adjuvant temozolomide. O-6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter methylation status is an important prognostic biomarker that predicts the response to temozolomide and guides treatment decisions. At present, the only reliable way to determine MGMT promoter methylation status is through the analysis of tumor tissues. Considering the complications of the tissue-based methods, an imaging-based approach is preferred. This study aimed to compare three different deep learning-based approaches for predicting MGMT promoter methylation status. We obtained 576 T2WI with their corresponding tumor masks, and MGMT promoter methylation status from, The Brain Tumor Segmentation (BraTS) 2021 datasets. We developed three different models: voxel-wise, slice-wise, and whole-brain. For voxel-wise classification, methylated and unmethylated MGMT tumor masks were made into 1 and 2 with 0 background, respectively. We converted each T2WI into 32 × 32 × 32 patches. We trained a 3D-Vnet model for tumor segmentation. After inference, we constructed the whole brain volume based on the patch's coordinates. The final prediction of MGMT methylation status was made by majority voting between the predicted voxel values of the biggest connected component. For slice-wise classification, we trained an object detection model for tumor detection and MGMT methylation status prediction, then for final prediction, we used majority voting. For the whole-brain approach, we trained a 3D Densenet121 for prediction. One of the most widely researched topics in the food industry is bread quality analysis. Different techniques have been developed to assess the quality characteristics of bakery products. However, in the last few decades, the advancement in sensor and computational technologies has increased the use of computer vision to analyze food quality (e.g., bakery products). Despite a large number of publications on the application of imaging methods in the bakery industry, comprehensive reviews detailing the use of conventional analytical techniques and imaging methods for the quality analysis of baked goods are limited. Therefore, this review aims to critically analyze the conventional methods and explore the potential of imaging techniques for the quality assessment of baked products. This review provides an in‐depth assessment of the different conventional techniques used for the quality analysis of baked goods which include methods to record the physical characteristics of bread and analyze its quality, sensory‐based methods, nutritional‐based methods, and the use of dough rheological data for end‐product quality prediction. Furthermore, an overview of the image processing stages is presented herein. We also discuss, comprehensively, the applications of imaging techniques for assessing the quality of bread and other baked goods. These applications include studying and predicting baked goods' quality characteristics (color, texture, size, and shape) and classifying them based on these features. The limitations of both conventional techniques (e.g., destructive, laborious, error‐prone, and expensive) and imaging methods (e.g., illumination, humidity, and noise) and the future direction of the use of imaging methods for quality analysis of bakery products are discussed. Regarding risk stratification and long-term patient outcome prediction, routine clinical evaluation by radiologists has several limitations. Numerous researchers have assessed the usefulness of radiomics and artificial intelligence in the context of head and neck tumor imaging given the exponential development of these technologies in medical imaging. These were geared at the creation of reliable and reproducible models based on quantitative data. Even if there are still a few obstacles to their widespread usage in clinical practice, it is clear that they have the potential to be revolutionary. In this paper, we provide a thorough overview of radiomics and artificial intelligence applications in head and neck tumor imaging. Recent advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence technology have ensured automated evaluation of medical images. As a result, quantifiable diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers have been created. We discuss radiomics applications for the head and neck region in this paper. Molecular characterization, categorization, prognosis and therapy recommendation are given special consideration. In a narrative manner, we outline the fundamental technological principles, the overall idea and usual workflow of radiomic analysis and what seem to be the present and potential challenges in normal clinical practice. Clinical oncology intends for all of this to ensure informed decision support for personalized and useful cancer treatment. Head and neck cancers present a unique set of diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. These challenges are brought on by the complicated anatomy and heterogeneity of the area under investigation. Radiomics has the potential to address these barriers. Future research must be interdisciplinary and focus on the study of certain oncologic functions and outcomes, with external validation and multi-institutional cooperation in order to achieve this. Automated dental imaging interpretation is one of the most prolific areas of research using artificial intelligence. X-ray imaging systems have enabled dental clinicians to identify dental diseases. However, the manual process of dental disease assessment is tedious and error-prone when diagnosed by inexperienced dentists. Thus, researchers have employed different advanced computer vision techniques, as well as machine and deep learning models for dental disease diagnoses using X-ray imagery. In this regard, a lightweight Mask-RCNN model is proposed for periapical disease detection. The proposed model is constructed in two parts: a lightweight modified MobileNet-v2 backbone and region-based network (RPN) are proposed for periapical disease localization on a small dataset. To measure the effectiveness of the proposed model, the lightweight Mask-RCNN is evaluated on a custom annotated dataset comprising images of five different types of periapical lesions. The results reveal that the model can detect and localize periapical lesions with an overall accuracy of 94%, a mean average precision of 85%, and a mean insection over a union of 71.0%. The proposed model improves the detection, classification, and localization accuracy significantly using a smaller number of images compared to existing methods and outperforms state-of-the-art approaches. Medical image processing, which includes many applications such as magnetic resonance image (MRI) processing, is one of the most significant fields of computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) systems. It has witnessed great growth over the last few decades as a result of the tremendous advancements in computer technology. One of the applications that uses MRI and digital image processing techniques is to assess whether the brain has any anomalies. The large variation in the brain shape among people poses a significant challenge in the computer-based diagnosis process. As a result, comparing a person's brain image to other people's brain images may not be a reliable way to diagnose a brain tumour. In this study, we present a method that takes advantage of the fact that the two lobes of the brain are symmetric to decide if there are any abnormalities as tumours cause a deformation in the shape of one of the lobes, which affects this symmetry. The proposed method determines the status of the brain by comparing the two lobes of the brain with each other and decides the presence of abnormalities in it based on the results of the comparison. Various features extracted from the images, such as colour and texture, have been studied, discussed, and used in the comparison process. The proposed algorithm was applied to 300 images from standard datasets and the results obtained were very satisfactory where the precision, recall, and accuracy reached 95.3%, 94.7%, and 95% respectively. Image representation or reconstruction methods are important in digital image processing. Due to different image features happening in different regions, in this work, an image representation algorithm based on Gaussian function and non-uniform partition is proposed to represent the image with different functions in non-uniform regions. That means the pixel values in each region can be approximated by an extension of the Gaussian function after applying the least square approximation. The experimental results prove that the proposed algorithm has better performance than other non-uniform partition algorithms in terms of reconstructed image quality and time complexity. In addition, the partition mesh density can reflect the texture complexity of image regions and help to determine where the watermark can be embedded. Simple Summary: Worldwide gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies account for about 25% of the global cancer incidence. For some malignancies, screening programs, such as routine colon cancer screenings, have largely aided in the early diagnosis of those at risk. However, even after diagnosis, many GI malignancies lack robust biomarkers to serve as definitive staging and prognostic tools to aid in clinical decision-making. Radiomics uses high-throughput data to extract various features from medical images with the potential to aid personalized precision medicine. Machine learning is a technique for analyzing and predicting by learning from sample data, finding patterns in it, and applying it to new data. We reviewed the fundamental concepts of radiomics such as imaging data acquisition, lesion segmentation, feature design, and interpretation specific to GI cancer studies and assessed the clinical applications of radiomics and machine learning in diagnosis, staging, evaluation of tumor prognosis, and treatment response. Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, consisting of a wide spectrum of pathologies, have become a prominent health issue globally. Despite medical imaging playing a crucial role in the clinical workflow of cancers, standard evaluation of different imaging modalities may provide limited information. Accurate tumor detection, characterization, and monitoring remain a challenge. Progress in quantitative imaging analysis techniques resulted in "radiomics", a promising methodical tool that helps to personalize diagnosis and treatment optimization. Radiomics, a sub-field of computer vision analysis, is a bourgeoning area of interest, especially in this era of precision medicine. In the field of oncology, radiomics has been described as a tool to aid in the diagnosis, classification, and categorization of malignancies and to predict outcomes using various endpoints. In addition, machine learning is a technique for analyzing and predicting by learning from sample data, finding patterns in it, and applying it to new data. Machine learning has been increasingly applied in this field, where it is being studied in image diagnosis. This review assesses the current landscape of radiomics and methodological processes in GI cancers (including gastric, colorectal, liver, pancreatic, neuroendocrine, GI stromal, and rectal cancers). We explain in a stepwise fashion the process from data acquisition and curation to segmentation and feature extraction. Furthermore, the applications of radiomics for diagnosis, staging, assessment of tumor prognosis and treatment response according to different GI cancer types are explored. Carcinoma is a primary source of morbidity in women globally, with metastatic disease accounting for most deaths. Its early discovery and diagnosis may significantly increase the odds of survival. Breast cancer imaging is critical for early identification, clinical staging, management choices, and treatment planning. In the current study, the FastAI technology is used with the ResNet-32 model to precisely identify ductal carcinoma. ResNet-32 is having few layers comparted to majority of its counterparts with almost identical performance. FastAI offers a rapid approximation toward the outcome for deep learning models via GPU acceleration and a faster callback mechanism, which would result in faster execution of the model with lesser code and yield better precision in classifying the tissue slides. Residual Network (ResNet) is proven to handle the vanishing gradient and effective feature learning better. Integration of two computationally efficient technologies has yielded a precision accuracy with reasonable computational efforts. The proposed model has shown considerable efficiency in the evaluating parameters like sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and F1 Score against the other dominantly used deep learning models. To suppress the streak artifacts in images reconstructed from sparse-view projections in computed tomography (CT), a residual, attention-based, dense UNet (RAD-UNet) deep network is proposed to achieve accurate sparse reconstruction. The filtered back projection (FBP) algorithm is used to reconstruct the CT image with streak artifacts from sparse-view projections. Then, the image is processed by the RAD-UNet to suppress streak artifacts and obtain high-quality CT image. Those images with streak artifacts are used as the input of the RAD-UNet, and the output-label images are the corresponding high-quality images. Through training via the large-scale training data, the RAD-UNet can obtain the capability of suppressing streak artifacts. This network combines residual connection, attention mechanism, dense connection and perceptual loss. This network can improve the nonlinear fitting capability and the performance of suppressing streak artifacts. The experimental results show that the RAD-UNet can improve the reconstruction accuracy compared with three existing representative deep networks. It may not only suppress streak artifacts but also better preserve image details. Anamorphosis is related to the art that gives illusion (distortion) over the image or object when the viewer looks the original image or from the random viewpoint. This illusion effect is nullified when the image or object is viewed from the standard viewpoint. In digital imaging domain, anamorphic images (distortion) are generated by changing the pixel coordinates of the given image into new pixel coordinates, and this process typically increases the size of the original image matrix which results in gaps between the successive pixels. In anamorphic transform, the gaps between the successive pixel positions increases as we travel from viewing end to the tail end, and these gaps are filled by interpolating the successive pixels. The viewing angle, distance, height between the viewer and original image are responsible for the amount of distortion introduced in anamorphic images. The proposed work reveals that the rotation of the original image also plays an important role in creating distortion in anamorphic images. The proposed work uses the Kullback-Leibler distance (KLD) to measure the amount of distortion between the original and anamorphized images. A larger KLD implies that the original and anamorphic images are well separated i.e., a good anamorphism has achieved. It is found that the smaller viewing angle combined with the viewing distance and height achieves the larger KLD. The optimum anamorphic image generation is done at two levels: (i) Choosing an appropriate viewing angle, distance, and height, and (ii) Choosing the appropriate rotation of the image to be anamorphized. The former is optimized through KLD, and for the latter Shannon's entropy of the tail portion of the original image under different rotations is used. The detection of edges in images is a pressing issue in the field of image processing. This technique has found widespread application in image pattern recognition, machine vision, and a variety of other areas. The feasibility and effectiveness of grey theory in image engineering applications have prompted researchers to continuously explore it. The grey model (GM (1,1)) with the first-order differentiation of one variable is the grey prediction model that is most frequently used. It is a typical trend analysis model and can be used for image edge detection. The traditional integer-order differential image edge detection operator has problems such as blurred and discontinuous edges, incomplete image details, and high influence by noise. We present a novel grey model for detecting image edges based on a fractional-order discrete operator in this paper. To improve the features of the original image, our model first preprocesses it before calculating the prediction of the original image using our fractional-order cumulative greyscale model. We obtain the edge information of the image by first subtracting a preprocessed image from the predicted image and then eliminating isolated noise points using the median filtering method. Based on the discrete wavelet transform, image edges are finally extracted. The comparison experiments with a traditional edge detection operator show that our algorithm can accurately locate the image edges, the image edges are clear and complete, and this model has better anti-noise performance. Therefore, this paper innovatively proposes two-dimensional (2D) entropy of the chunking image in calculating uniformity complexity (U) to evaluate surface segregation of bituminous mixtures with digital image processing (DIP). Before image chunking, Otsu algorithm and Canny edge detection are properly combined to obtain a more accurate aggregate distribution image. Furthermore, the feasibility of this detecting method is verified through a simulation experiment, a grading comparison experiment, and a noise interference experiment. Simple Summary: This study compared the measured diameters of Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST)-defined chest target lesions and lymph nodes between deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR)-based ultra-low-dose CT (ULDCT) and contrast-enhanced CT and found that the measured diameters in ULDCT were highly correlated with that of contrast-enhanced CT and highly repeatable. Methods: The consecutive adult patients with noncontrast chest ULDCT (0.07–0.14 mSv) and contrast-enhanced CT (2.38 mSv) were prospectively enrolled. Patients with poor image quality and body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2 were excluded. The diameter of pulmonary target lesions and lymph nodes defined by Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) was measured. The measurement variability between ULDCT and enhanced CT was evaluated by Bland-Altman analysis. Results: The 141 enrolled patients (62 ± 12 years) had 89 RECIST-defined measurable pulmonary target lesions (including 30 malignant lesions, mainly adenocarcinomas) and 45 measurable mediastinal lymph nodes (12 malignant). The measurement variation of pulmonary lesions between high-strength DLIR (DLIR-H) images of ULDCT and contrast-enhanced CT was 2.2% (95% CI: 1.7% to 2.6%) and the variation of lymph nodes was 1.4% (1.0% to 1.9%). Conclusions: The measured diameters of pulmonary lesions and lymph nodes in DLIR-H images of ULDCT are highly close to those of contrast-enhanced CT. An early evaluation of colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRCLM) is crucial in determining treatment options that ultimately affect patient survival rates and outcomes. Radiomics (quantitative imaging features) have recently gained popularity in diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Despite this, radiomics faces many challenges and limitations. This study sheds light on these limitations by reviewing the studies that used radiomics to predict therapeutic response in CRCLM. Despite radiomics' potential to enhance clinical decision-making, it lacks standardization. According to the results of this study, the instability of radiomics quantification is caused by changes in CT scan parameters used to obtain CT scans, lesion segmentation methods used for contouring liver metastases, feature extraction methods, and dataset size used for experimentation and validation. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the diagnostic utility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) texture analysis for evaluating mandibular suppurative osteomyelitis (OM). Materials and methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we analyzed the records of 50 patients with and without OM who underwent MRI between April 2019 and March 2021. The presence or absence of OM served as a predictor variable. The outcome variables were the texture features of the region of interest, which were analyzed. Quantitative parameters based on histogram features (90th percentile) and gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) features (Sum Averg) were calculated using short-tau inversion-recovery data with a region of interest. These six features out of 279 parameters were selected using Fisher, probability of error, and average correlation coefficient methods in MaZda. For the analysis of trivariate statistics, the post-Mann–Whitney test of the Kruskal–Wallis test with Bonferroni adjustment was used, and the p value was set to 0.05. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic effect of texture function to distinguish between acute and chronic diseases. Results: One histogram feature and five GLCM features showed differences among the non-OM patients, acute OM patients, and chronic OM patients (p < 0.05). The ROC analysis revealed a high area under the curve ranging from 0.91 to 0.96 for six texture features. Conclusion: The six texture features of the mandibular bone marrow demonstrated differences among patients without and with acute and chronic OM. Noise standard deviation (STD) is an important parameter in many digital image processing applications. This paper presents a Gaussian noise parameter estimation algorithm using multiple singular value decomposition (SVD) and non‐linear fitting. The proposed algorithm adds known noise to the original noise image many times to generate a noise‐corrupted image set and then performs SVD on each image. By analyzing the singular values of the noise‐corrupted images, an overdetermined equation system with respect to the noise STD is established. The Gauss–Newton iteration method and backtracking Armijo line search are used to solve the equations, which improve the convergence speed and reduce computational cost. Compared with other methods, the mean error of the proposed algorithm on the TID2008 dataset is 0.028, which is several times lower than other methods.
