The present study investigated the effects of different deep‐frying times and temperatures on the amylose content, crystal structure, thermodynamics, and other properties of deep‐fried dough sticks. Results showed that the change of amylose content in deep‐fried dough sticks during the deep‐frying process was positively correlated with time and temperature. Moreover, the deep‐frying process of deep‐fried dough sticks was accompanied by the formation of starch–lipid complexes that led to the destruction of starch structure. The degreased sample and the oil sample had the same absorption peaks at 2854 and 1746 cm−1, respectively. The melting enthalpy (ΔH) of the starch–lipid complex decreased significantly. In addition, the viscosity of starch reduced as the deep‐frying time and temperature increased. Furthermore, it was found that the effect of increasing deep‐frying temperature was greater than that of time. Practical Application: As a popular deep‐fried food, the main component of deep‐fried dough sticks is starch. Starch gelatinization, protein denaturation, and interaction among components occurred during deep‐frying. At present, there are few studies focusing on the properties of starch in deep‐fried dough sticks in the real deep‐frying system. Therefore, this study provided a theoretical basis for subsequent research by measuring the effects of different deep‐frying conditions on the properties of starch in deep‐fried dough sticks. Marbofloxacin (MB) is a newly developed fluoroquinolone antibiotic used especially as a veterinary drug. It may be regarded as the improved version of enrofloxacin owing to its antibacterial activity, enhanced bioavailability, and pharmacokinetic–pharmacodynamic (PK–PD) properties. In this study, nine heavy rare-earth ions (Y, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu) were selected in light of their potential antibacterial activity and satisfactory biosafety to afford the corresponding rare-earth metal complexes of MB: the MB–Ln series. Their chemical structures and coordination patterns were characterized using IR spectroscopy, HRMS, TGA, and X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis. Our results confirmed that all the MB–Ln complexes yielded the coincident coordination modes with four MB ligands coordinating to the Ln(III) center. In vitro antibacterial screening on five typical bacteria strains revealed that the MB–Ln complexes exhibited antibacterial activities comparable with MB, as indicated by the MIC/MBC values, in which Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi were the most sensitive ones to MB–Ln. Furthermore, the MB–Ln complexes were found to be much less toxic in vivo than MB, as suggested by the evaluated LD50 (50% lethal dose) values. All the MB–Ln series complexes fell in the LD50 range of 5000–15 000 mg kg−1, while the LD50 value of MB was only 1294 mg kg−1. Furthermore, MB–Lu, as the selected representative of MB–Ln, could effectively inhibit the activity of DNA gyrase, the same as MB, suggesting the primary antibacterial mechanism of the MB–Ln series. Van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures of two‐dimensional (2D) materials promise exotic properties beyond the reach of existing material systems and open unprecedented opportunities for device applications. Here, it is demonstrated that vdW stacking of centrosymmetric ReS2 and graphene into heterostructure could induce strong second harmonic generation (SHG), though there is not any SHG from the individual ReS2 or graphene. It could be attributed to the interfacial charge transfer in the heterostructure. With the distorted 1T crystal structure of ReS2 and electrostatic screening effect, the charge transfer gives rise to non‐uniform charge distribution across the ReS2's atomic layers, resulting in the broken centrosymmetry for the second‐order hyperpolarizability. At the specific pump wavelength of 1550 nm, the strength of the induced SHG in a trilayer ReS2/graphene vdW heterostructure is approximately twice of that from a monolayer MoS2. This work reveals vdW stacking is a simple and efficient method for inducing SHG in 2D materials with centrosymmetry, which could be considered as another unique attribute of 2D materials. Nitrogen-rich heterocyclic compounds are important heterocyclic substances with extensive future applications for energetic materials due to their outstanding density and excellent physicochemical properties. However, the weak intermolecular interactions of these compounds are not clear, which severely limits their widespread application. Three nitrogen-rich heterocyclic compounds were chosen to detect their molecular geometry, stacking mode and intermolecular interactions by crystal structure, Hirshfeld surface, RDG and ESP. The results show that all atoms in each molecule are coplanar and that the stacking mode of the three crystals is a planar layer style. A large amount of inter- and intramolecular interaction exists in the three crystals. All principal types of intermolecular contacts in the three crystals are N···H interactions and they account for 40.9%, 38.9% and 32.9%, respectively. Hydrogen bonding, vdW interactions and steric effects in Crystal c are stronger than in Crystals a and b. The negative ESPs all concentrate on the nitrogen atoms in the three molecules. The crystal and molecular structures, intermolecular interactions, and energy of CL-20, HATO, and FOX-7 were comparatively predicted based on molecular dynamic (MD) simulations. By comparison, the 2D fingerprint plot, Hirshfeld surface, reduced density gradient isosurface, and electrostatic potential surface were studied to detect the intermolecular interactions. Meanwhile, the effects of vacuum and different solvents on the crystal habit of CL-20, HATO, and FOX-7 were studied by AE and MAE model, respectively. The energy calculation was also analysed based on the equilibrium structures of these crystal models by MD simulations. Preparation, Crystal Structure and Antibacterial Performance of Two Transition Metal Carbacylamidophosphates Complexes. [Display omitted] • Two transition metal complexes based on carbamidophosphate ligand were prepared by the simple solvent evaporation method. • The antibacterial test shows that both the ligand and the complex had certain antibacterial activity. Compounds with carbacylamidophosphates (CAPh) structures exhibited strong coordination abilities due to its heteroatoms such as O, N, and P. After coordinated with metal ions, the complexes usually show good antibacterial activity. Alfalfa is known as the vanguard for soil conservation and the crown of herbage. White hypha disease caused by Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc has become a major disease in yield decrease. However, there are relatively few researches on the treatment white hypha disease with complexes. Based on this, two Fe(III) and Cu(III) complexes based on CAPh structure were synthesized in this study, their crystal structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, and physicochemical properties were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, etc. The antibacterial test shows that complexes has good activity for Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc, and the complexes usually exhibit better antibacterial activity than ligands. A new two‐dimensional (2D) coordination polymer, namely, poly[[diaqua[μ3‐(S)‐2‐(benzylamino)succinato‐κ4N,O1:O1′:O4]cadmium(II)] monohydrate], {[Cd(C11H11NO4)(H2O)2]·H2O}n, has been synthesized by the solvothermal reaction of Cd(CH3COO)2·2H2O with the synthesized ligand (S)‐2‐(benzylamino)succinic acid (H2L). The title compound has been structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis. In the crystal structure, each CdII cation binds to three carboxylate groups from three symmetry‐related L2− dianions. The tetradentate L2− ligand links three symmetry‐related CdII cations into a 2D folding sheet, which can be simplified as a uninodal (3,3)‐connected hcb net with the point symbol (63). In the lattice, all the folding sheets are arranged in an interdigitated fashion and aggregate into zipper‐like arrays through interlayer π–π interactions. The large and nonpolar side chain may play an important role in the formation and aggregation of the 2D sheet. A new two‐dimensional (2D) coordination polymer, namely, poly[[diaqua‐[μ4‐2,2′‐[terephthaloylbis(azanediyl)]diacetato]calcium(II)] monohydrate], {[Ca(C12H10N2O6)(H2O)2]·H2O}n, (I), has been synthesized by the reaction of CaCl2 with 2,2′‐[terephthaloylbis(azanediyl)]diacetic acid (H2L). The title compound was structurally characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis, elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy. In the crystal structure of (I), each CaII cation binds to six carboxylate groups from four symmetry‐related L2− dianions. The hexadentate L2− ligand links four symmetry‐related calcium cations into a 2D layer‐like structure, which can be simplified as a uninodal SP 2‐periodic (3,6)III net with the point symbol (43·63). In the lattice, all layers pack in parallel arrays through weak interlayer hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions. The thermal stability and photoluminescence properties of (I) have been investigated. Thermogravimetric analysis reveals the different thermal stabilities of the two coordinated water molecules due to their different hydrogen‐bonding interactions. Two new compounds RbAgZnS 2 (1) and Cs 2 Ag 2 Zn 2 S 4 (2) have been successfully synthesized under facile solvothermal method using excess sulfur as a mineralizer. Compound 1 contains anionic [AgZnS 2 ] n n− layers composed of MS 4 (M ​= ​Ag/Zn) tetrahedra, in which Ag+ and Zn2+ ions occupy the same crystallographic site. In the structure of compound 2 , the anionic [Ag 2 Zn 2 S 4 ] n 2n− layer is composed of [AgS 2 ] n 3n− and [ZnS 2 ] n 2n− anion chains which are generated by AgS 4 and ZnS 4 tetrahedra, respectively. The band gap values of the two compounds reveal that they are semiconductors. Furthermore, the photoelectric response experiment indicates compound 2 exhibits excellent photoelectric response performance. Stimuli-response organic solid-state luminescence switching materials are attracting increasing interest due to their smart photophysical properties. In this study, a morpholine-modified naphthalic anhydride derivative, 4-(4-morpholinyl)naphthalic anhydride (MBC), was synthesized and studied. Its two crystal polymorphs, MBC-G and MBC-O , were obtained under different crystallization conditions. These two distinct crystals show significantly different solid-state luminescence behaviors: a green emission at 535 nm for MBC-G , and an orange emission at 572 nm for MBC-O. Upon fiercely grinding the MBC-G crystal or melting and then quickly cooling it, a phase transition occurs from MBC-G to MBC-O , accompanied by a fluorescence change from green to orange. The reverse transformation from MBC-O to MBC-G can be achieved by recrystallization. The X-ray single crystal structures show that the green emission should be attributed to molecular J-aggregation in the crystal packing, and the orange emission may originate from molecular H-aggregation. Two quaternary hetero-transition metal sulfides RbAg 5 HgS 4 (1) and CsAgHgS 2 (2) have been successfully synthesized under mild solvothermal method in the presence of thiophenol as a mineralizer. Compound 1 features an interesting 3-D [Ag 5 HgS 4 ]- framework composed of 16-membered ring [Ag (2) 4 M(1) 4 S 8 ] (M ​= ​Ag/Hg) and quasi-8-membered ring [Ag (2) 4 S 4 ] which are all constructed by MS 2 and AgS 2 linear units. Compound 2 possesses anionic [AgHgS 2 ] n n− layers formed with MS 4 (M ​= ​Ag/Hg) tetrahedra, in which Ag+ and Hg2+ ions occupy the same crystallographic site. Particularly, this is the first time that quaternary A-Ag-Hg-S (A ​= ​alkali metal) system were explored via solvothermal method, which demonstrates that structural directing agents have significant influence on the structures of hetero-transition metal sulfides. Furthermore, the XRD experiment and band gap value of compound 2 were also investigated. In this study, 0.5Ca 0.15 Sr 1.85 Bi 4 Ti 5 O 18 (CSBT)-0.5BiFeO 3 (BFO) ceramics were synthesized, and the effects of different sintering atmospheres (air and N 2) on their structure and electrical conductivity were reported. According to XRD, TEM, and Raman analyses, the 0.5CSBT-0.5BFO ceramics had a B2cb space group (orthorhombic crystal structure) and an m=5 bismuth layered perovskite structure, except the Bi 2 O 3 second phase (cubic, Pn-3m) is in the air-sintered sample. The XPS analysis results show that the air-sintered sample had a greater hole (h •) concentration than the N 2 -sintered sample. • A new anthrahydrazone ligand (9-THA) and its three metal complexes were synthesized. • The tested cancer cell lines were most sensitive to the Cu(II) complex, 9-THA-Cu. • 9-THA-Cu could bind with DNA in an intercalative mode by its planar structure. • The Cu(II) center play a key role to exert anticancer activity and induce apoptosis. In the present study, we synthesized and extensively characterized a novel ligand, 9-THA, based on 9-benzothiazolanthrahydrazone, along with its three corresponding transition metal complexes: 9-THA-Co (1), 9-THA-Ni (2), and 9-THA-Cu (3). The crystallographic analysis revealed distinct coordination geometries - six-coordinate for 9-THA-Co and 9-THA-Ni, binding three and two 9-THA ligands, respectively, and four-coordinate for 9-THA-Cu, binding one 9-THA ligand. In vitro anticancer screening demonstrated that 9-THA-Cu exhibited significant growth inhibition in HeLa-229, NCI-H460, and SK-OV-3 cancer cells with IC 50 values of 12.10 ± 0.54, 12.12 ± 0.58, and 17.65 ± 0.66 μM, respectively. Moreover, it displayed comparable cytotoxicity to cisplatin on HL-7702 normal liver cells. In contrast, 9-THA and 9-THA-Co/9-THA-Ni did not exhibit significant growth inhibition in the tested cancer cells, suggesting that Cu(II) played a pivotal role in its anticancer mechanism. Further investigation revealed the intercalative DNA binding mode of 9-THA-Cu by UV–Vis and fluorescent spectral analyses. It also exhibited competitive binding with two typical DNA intercalators, Gel-red (GR) and ethidium bromide (EB). Cell cycle and cell apoptosis experiments indicated that 9-THA-Cu at a concentration of 22 μM could induce cell cycle arrest in the S phase in 40 % of HeLa-229 cancer cells. Simultaneously, it induced 33.2 % apoptosis in HeLa-229 cells, suggesting that 9-THA-Cu may employ multiple mechanisms to exert its anticancer effects. [Display omitted] [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• The PRO-BPE cocrystal was prepared using an ultrasonication-assisted solvent evaporation method. • The PRO-BPE cocrystal has been successfully synthesized for the first time. • The solubility of PRO has been increased by a factor of 2.43 using cocrystallization technology for the first time. To improve the bioavailability and provide a lead compound for developing formulations of the highly water-insoluble prodrug probenecid (PRO), enhancing its solubility is a crucial challenge that needs to be addressed. Herein, we report the synthesis and solid-state characterization of a new pharmaceutical cocrystal, PRO-BPE, synthesized using trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene (BPE) to improve the solubility of PRO. The PRO-BPE cocrystals were characterized using various analytical techniques, including differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray powder diffraction. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction was performed to determine the crystal structure of PRO-BPE. PRO-BPE crystallized in the triclinic crystal system P-1 space group and its asymmetric unit consists of half a BPE molecule and one PRO molecule. The N1 atoms located at both ends of the BPE molecule form stable hydrogen bonds with two PRO carboxyl hydrogens through N1···H4—O4 (1.777 Å, 166.78°) interactions, whereas the O3 atoms of the carboxylic groups form C1—H1···O3 (2.479 Å, 132.10°) hydrogen bonds with two pyridyl hydrogens, resulting in a stable seven-membered ring structure. Furthermore, these fragments are further assembled via C—H···O intermolecular interactions to form a two-dimensional layered structure. Interestingly, the two pyridyl rings of each BPE molecule engage in π···π interactions with the benzene rings of two other non-coplanar PRO molecules. Finally, a three-dimensional framework structure is formed through intramolecular non-covalent interactions. Comprehensive characterization analyses provided further information regarding PRO-BPE cocrystal formation. Based on the equilibrium solubility results, the water solubility of the PRO-BPE cocrystal was superior to that of pure PRO, with an increase of 2.43 times. In summary, this study provides the first evidence that cocrystals could enhance the solubility of PRO and offers valuable insights into the solid-state properties of PRO-BPE cocrystals. Translesion synthesis (TLS) is a kind of DNA repair that maintains the stability of the genome and ensures the normal growth of life in cells under emergencies. Y-family DNA polymerases, as a kind of error-prone DNA polymerase, mainly perform TLS. Previous studies have suggested that the occurrence of tumors is associated with the overexpression of human DNA polymerase of the Y family. And the combination of Y-family DNA polymerase inhibitors is promising for cancer therapy. Here we report the functional and structural characterization of a member of the Y-family DNA polymerases, TTEDbh. We determine TTEDbh is an extreme TLS polymerase that can cross oxidative damage sites, and further identify the amino acids and novel structures that are critical for DNA binding, synthesis, fidelity, and oxidative damage bypass. Moreover, previously unnoticed structural elements with important functions have been discovered and analyzed. These studies provide a more experimental basis for further elucidating the molecular mechanisms of DNA polymerase in the Y family. It could also shed light on the design of drugs to target tumors. • The crystal structures of Mn(II)/Co(II) complexes of enrofloxacin (EFX) are reported. • Both complexes could maintain the coordinated status in aqueous solution. • Both complexes show comparable antibacterial activity to EFX. • They exhibit slight higher antibacterial activity than EFX towards E. coli & S. typhi. Enrofloxacin (EFX) is a third-generation fluoroquinolone drug especially used for animals world wide, which shows broad-spectrum and significant antibacterial activities. In this study, EFX was selected as the ligand to synthesize two transition metal complexes, EFX-Mn and EFX-Co, in which the bio-active metal ions, manganese(II) and cobalt(II), was set to be the active metal center. Their crystal structures were reported and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis. Both the crystal structures of EFX-Mn and EFX-Co belong to the same monoclinic crystal system with P2 1 /c space group. Viewed from the crystal structure of EFX-Mn or EFX-Co, the central Mn(II)/Co(II) adapted a six-coordinated octahedral configuration, respectively by two EFX ligands and two H 2 O co-ligands. The characteristic UV-Vis absorption peaks of both complexes were examined in tris-saline buffer solution in a time-dependent mode in 24 h, which suggested that the coordination status of EFX-Mn and EFX-Co in the solid state still maintained under near-physiological condition. In vitro antibacterial activity tests demonstrated that EFX-Mn and EFX-Co showed similar and significant growth inhibitory effects towards five typical pathogenic bacteria, compared with EFX itself. While for two gram-negative bacterial strains, E. coli and S. typhi , EFX-Mn and EFX-Co showed higher bactericidal effects than EFX, the bactericidal concentration of which was only a half as low as that of EFX. The manganese(II) and cobalt(II) complexes of enrofloxacin were reported and their crystal structures were characterized. It indicated that the coordination of enrofloxacin with Mn(II) and Co(II) maintained the antibacterial activity in vitro , and showed superiority towards E. coli & S. typhi , making both complexes promising metal-based veterinary drugs. Therefore, after ammonia enters the system, the lactone ring structure is restored, which shows that the color changes from colorfulness to colorless. With the good combination, the fabric can change from superhydrophobicity to superhydrophilicity within 10 s after encountering ammonia, which shows that the color changes from blue to white. In addition, color has a relatively high correspondence with wettability and repeatability. Red-emitting phosphors play an important role in the warm white light emitting diodes (LEDs). However, the development of red phosphors with high luminous efficiency and high thermal stability still faces severe challenges. A series of novel red emitting Eu3+ doped La 2 LiSbO 6 phosphors have been synthesized by the conventional solid-state reaction route. The effects of sintering temperatures as well as co-doped Gd3+ ions were discussed. X - ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence excitation (PLE) and emission (PL) spectra, temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectra, and CIE chromaticity coordinates were used to analyze these phosphors. The optimum sintering temperature for La 2 LiSbO 6 : Eu3+ phosphors was 1200 °C. The emission intensity reached the maximum when Eu3+ ion concentration was 18 mol%, and the dipole-dipole interaction may be responsible for the concentration quenching mechanism of Eu3+ in the La 2 LiSbO 6 :Eu3+ phosphors. Furthermore, the emission intensity could be increased by Gd3+ ions doping and the sample reached the best emission intensity when both dopant contents of Gd3+ and Eu3+ ion concentration were 10 mol%. However, due to the destabilization of the double perovskite structure caused by the doping of Gd3+ ions, the emission intensity of (La 0.80 Gd 0.10 Eu 0.10) 2 LiSbO 6 (LGLSO: Eu3+) sample was weaker than that of (La 0.82 Eu 0.18) 2 LiSbO 6 (LLSO: Eu3+). Impressively, LGLSO: Eu3+ phosphor exhibited good thermal stability and the luminous intensity at 423 K maintained 84% compared with its initial value at room temperature, which was higher than that of LLSO: Eu3+ (68%). The thermal quenching phenomenon and the enhancement mechanism of thermal stability were analyzed by the configuration coordinate diagram of Eu3+ ion. In addition, both chromaticity coordinates of samples located in red region, demonstrating their potential applications in white LEDs.
