The AC battery utilizing second-life time batteries has gained great interest currently with the advantages of both power solutions and economic benefits. In this system, the power converters play a crucial role in the stable and effective operation of the system. This paper focused on the AC/DC stage with the chosen topology being the interleaved full bridge (IFB) converter due to its flexibility and the ability to increase the power rate of the system. For the sake of high-performance operation, various pulse width modulation (PWM) methods for this converter are analyzed. First, based on the theory of the traditional PWM methods for a full bridge inverter in combination with the interleaved technique, this paper proposed three interleaved PWM methods for the IFB converter. Secondly, the proposed methods are theoretically compared in terms of the output current, common-mode voltage, and power losses. Finally, the evaluation is carried out by both the simulation and the experimental prototype, in which the results are in good agreement with the theoretical analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper highlights the feasibility of originalism as a constitutional interpretive approach in Malaysia. A doctrinal method through case analysis along with comparative method is applied in this paper. Originalism finds its strength in stability of language through fidelity of the text. This is pertinent in increasing the possibility of coherence and mitigating arbitrariness amidst the contemporary challenges arising from rapid change of values. Through illustration of cases, this paper suggests that originalism may have been applied in the past. This paper also proposes some supporting measures to optimize the effectiveness of originalism in interpreting the Federal Constitution by the Malaysian Judiciary. The author concludes that originalism has a place in Malaysia and in fact, serves a very important role to preserve the country's traditional values and traditional elements through fidelity to the text. Various applications of artificial intelligence (AI) are currently being developed to enhance and transform the educational experience. However, things like culture, society, and ethics may have an impact on how artificial intelligence is implemented in classrooms all around the world. This study aims to analyze the existing use of AI in education in two Southeast Asian nations, namely Indonesia and Thailand, and to compare those two environments in terms of their potential. Specifically, the research will focus on Indonesia. We gathered papers, publications, and websites from both countries in order to perform an in-depth analysis as part of a comprehensive literature study that we carried out. The ethical and social repercussions of using AI in education, the best practices and suggestions for using AI in education, the possibilities and problems presented by using AI in education, and the preparedness and obstructions presented by using AI in education. Our study demonstrates that there are parallels and variances between the perceptions and experiences of educators and students from the two nations about the use of AI in educational settings, and it also makes recommendations for future research and practice. This case study discusses how the democratic governance principles and norms impact development in the Southern African Development Community and how institutional and structural reforms require greater participation by society to address the governance challenges encountered in this subregion of Africa. Consequently, the aim of this paper is to examine and assess the relationship between SADC’s governance, democratic principles and norms, and development plans and processes. A comparative analysis was conducted using SADC’s key democratic achievement connected to policies, processes, and remaining challenges. Subsequently, the key causes of SADC’s slow development on the African continent were explored, focusing on the failure to institutionalize liberal democratic governance consistently during postcolonial transition periods, speculating SADC’s slow development. The findings suggest that SADC is impacted by democratic principles, norms, and processes, such as local governance, civil society, and decentralization of power. Bearing in mind, Southern Africa’s economic frailty, elevated levels of civil unrest and poor service delivery, and SADC authorities require a strong sub-regional governance strategy supported by robust national programs to determine and overcome the factors hindering the institutionalization of democratic principles in SADC and promote strengthened institutional capacity. The unambiguous progression toward the consolidation of democracy, within the SADC, has impacted the governance and development successes of the region, resulting in democratic values and practices remaining shallowly rooted, and slow progress toward open and transparent governance. Since many scholars (M. Gimbutas, D. Telehin, T. Movsha and others) considered the corded pottery decoration as a feature of the so-called pra-Indo-European cultural complex, the history of its diffusion is one of the key problems of the Eastern European past of the 5th--4th Millennia BC. Nevertheless, despite the question's significance, no comprehensive research would describe the spread of the corded decoration throughout Europe and define which cultures used it first. Fulfilment of this lacune is the purpose of the research paper. The scholarly novelty of the paper is such that for the first time, the corded pottery of the thirteen Eneolithic cultures will be analysed within the same text: Seredniy Stih, Dereivka, Moliukhiv Buhor, Rohachyk, Serezliivka, Yanmaya, Lukashivka, Sofiivka, Horodsk-Volhynia, Gordinești, Kasperivtsi and Usatovo. The main method of the paper is typological. Also, when it is possible, we use the methods of descriptive statistics. Conclusions. As a result of the conducted analysis, researchers concluded that classical corded decoration appears within the environment of the Trypillia and so-called 'steppe' cultures almost simultaneously -- at the beginning of the 4th Millennia BC. Further, the corded decoration became widespread within the Trypillia culture, where it is documented on the pottery of every late Trypillian local variant, while for the 'steppe' cultures, the corded decoration remains marginal. Based on this, the researchers claim that the appearance of cord decoration in the steppe is a sign of Trypillian influences and not the other way around -- an influence on Trypillia from the side of the steppe. In addition, the authors believe that the few finds of dishes decorated with cord impressions in the environment of the Serezliivka culture are an additional argument in favour of the formation of the latter based on the Trypillia culture. Autonomous parking is a revolutionary technology that has transformed the automotive industry with the rise of deep reinforcement learning, in particular, the Twin-Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient Algorithm (TD3). Nonetheless, the robustness of TD3 remains a significant challenge due to bias in Q-value estimates when determining how good an Action, A, taken at a particular state, S. To investigate this gap, this paper analyzes different loss functions in TD3 to better approximate the true Q-value, which is necessary for optimal decision making. Three loss functions are evaluated; Mean Squared Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Huber Loss via a simulation experiment for autonomous parking. The results showed that TD3 with Huber Loss has the highest convergence speed with the fastest Actor and Critic loss convergence. The Huber Loss function is found to be more robust and efficient than either loss function such MSE or MAE used in isolation, making it a suitable replacement for existing loss functions in the TD3 algorithm. In the future, TD3 with Huber Loss will be used as the base model to solve overestimation problem in TD3 when the estimated Q-values that represent the expected rewards of taking an action in a particular state, are higher than their true values. Accusations of trolling (deceiving participants about one's communicative intention, conducted for amusement, Dynel 2016; Hardaker 2013) and bad faith (dishonestly denying a speaker's committing meaning, de Saussure and Oswald 2009; Oswald 2022) abound in digitally mediated communication. The labels chosen by posters significantly impact the outcome of discussions, as accusations of trolling tend to result in more abrupt settlements of disputes compared to accusations of bad faith. However, proving these deceptive activities can be challenging for posters. As a result, they often substantiate the "bad faith" label by mentioning in their accusations what they perceive as strategies indicating their interlocutors' bad faith. In this paper, I examine 161 accusations of trolling and bad faith gathered from a forum. The analysis draws on Hardaker's (2010, 2013) research and proposes a comparison of the strategies mentioned in these accusations. Purpose: This study aims to compare the impact of Australian onshore and offshore immigration detention centres (IDCs) on detainees' health and health-care events. Design/methodology/approach: It uses data extracted from the Australian Government's quarterly health reports from 2014 to 2017. These reports contain a range of data about the health and well-being of detainees, including complaints/presenting symptoms and number of appointments and hospitalisations. To compare onshore and offshore data sets, the authors calculated the rate of health events per quarter against the estimated quarterly onshore and offshore detention population. They ran a series of two-proportion z-tests for each matched quarter to calculate median z- and p-values for all quarters. These were used as an indicator as to whether the observed differences between onshore and offshore events were statistically significant. Findings: The results suggest that adults detained onshore and offshore have substantial health needs, however, almost all rates were far higher in offshore detention, with people more likely to raise a health-related complaint, access health services and be prescribed medications, often at two to three times the rate of those onshore. Originality/value: This paper adds to a modest body of literature that explains the health of people detained in Australian IDCs. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first paper to explore health service utilisation and a range of other variables found in the Australian Government's quarterly health reports. In this paper, the low energy cost synchronization control strategy of Markovian switching complex systems/networks is mainly studied and analyzed through multiple perspectives. Firstly, in order to achieve synchronization of Markovian switching complex networks with low energy cost, a control scheme based on the optimal node selection strategy that does not depend on the network coupling strength is improved, and a finite-time controller with a simpler structure is constructed. Secondly, based on the event-triggered control strategy an effective trigger event is designed to achieve the low energy cost synchronization of Markovian switching complex networks on the basis of reducing the information transmission and interaction between networks. Finally, the two control strategies mentioned in this paper are compared and analyzed from multiple perspectives through numerical simulations to better guide practical engineering. The present paper is aimed at revealing the major emotional-expressive peculiarities in the translation of a stylized text of fiction into the English language. Unlike previous linguopoetic studies, the authors offer a comparative analysis of emotionalexpressive connotations in “The Prophet” by K. Gibran with the core Sufi imagery (in translations from Arabic and Persian) analysing different types of emotions through specific lexical units transferring an emotional state. For the purposes of the data analysis, it was suggested to expand the traditional Ekman’s classification of the most common types of emotions. Thus, in this paper, various shades of basic positive emotion types were considered. Purpose: This research was conducted as part of a PhD study. The purpose of this paper is to explore the factors taken into consideration when multi-agency practitioners were considering financial harm in the context of adult protection and how this influenced their decision-making processes. Design/methodology/approach: An adapted q sort methodology initially established the areas of financial harm considered to have additional factors, which led to complexity in adult protection decision making. These factors were further explored in individual interviews or focus groups. Findings: The data identified that the decision-making process varied between thorough analysis, rationality and heuristics with evidence of cue recognition, factor weighting and causal thinking. This highlighted the relevance of Kahneman's (2011) dual processing model in social work practice. Errors that occurred through an over reliance on System 1 thinking can be identified and rectified through the use of System 2 thinking and strengthen social work decision-making. The constant evolution of high-speed digital inter- faces has created a demand for robust and reliable designs. As a key component in ensuring reliable data transfer, receiver training sequence modules play a critical role in high-speed serial communication protocols like USB (Universal Serial Bus). Formal verification and Simulation based verification are two different methods for verifying the correctness of any digital design. The Simulation based verification checks the correctness of the design through the simulation of the design. It includes building of test bench architecture using System Verilog (SV) and Universal Verification Methodology (UVM), whereas Formal verification is a mathematical approach of verifying the design exhaustively. This paper gives a comparative analysis of a design using the two different verification methods. The block subjected for the verification has been taken from the Universal Serial Bus 3.2 (USB) controller. In this paper, I situate C.S. Peirce's theory of knowledge and action in comparison to Chinese philosophy. My argument is that the comparison makes it important to understand Peirce's abduction and his maxim as a much more potent force in comparative philosophy. Peirce's priority of practical effects over theory is similar to Confucian conceptions of truth and action. Jon Alan Schmidt has summarized sixty-one formulations of Peirce's maxim, from which I draw the four main expressions of the maxim here. According to Peirce, understanding the meaning of concepts in terms of actual effects is the core element of the maxim. This view can be seen as an echo in Wang Yangming's theory of the unity of knowledge and action. The theory is essentially a moral humanist philosophy. It integrates morality, ethics, and politics. It is similar to Peirce's pragmatic maxim, as James Liszka has explained. Their activities are influenced by various factors, and timely identification of the degree of their influence allows forecasting business development and reasonably choosing development strategies. The puprose of the paper is to develop a toolkit for evaluating an enterprise in a global environment for choosing a development strategy. The ability of enterprises to simultaneously achieve advantages in the domestic and international markets characterizes the expediency of using process and system approaches, as well as the use of competitive advantages. The implementation of the elements of the structural and logical model of ensuring the stable development of enterprises involves the use of methods of comparative and structural analysis, expert assessments, taxonomic method and generalization. Achieving the desired state occurs due to changes in the state of the enterprise, the causes of which are the interaction of a set of conditions of the global environment. To predict changes in the state of enterprises, it is proposed to develop methodological support for evaluating the development of business systems and using management tools in the development and implementation of strategies. The interpretation of metastate indicators allows assessing trends in business systems and developing strategies, as well as priority areas for future development. As a result of the research, a toolkit for assessing enterprise development trends was formed, which will allow business systems to gain additional benefits in the global environment and form a development strategy. The methodology for assessing the development of enterprises can be used in any industry. The paper makes a contribution to the research of the methodology for assessing the development of enterprises that can be applied to other enterprises, not only to the Kharkiv area. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to estimate the possible impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the hospitalization and hospital mortality of the patients with gallstone disease and chronic liver diseases (CLD) in the worst pandemic period in Ukraine. Design/methodology/approach: A retrospective comparative analysis of annual reports data of all economy subjects, which conducted economic activity in medical practice for 2019 and 2021. Data was accepted from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) and the State Statistics Service of Ukraine (SSSU). Findings: The total hospitalization rates for diffuse liver disease and cholelithiasis significantly decreased during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ukraine, compared to the values of 2019. At the same time, the rates of in-hospital mortality for these diseases have significantly grown. Also, various proportions of similar trends were described in other countries during the first wave of the pandemic. Originality/value: This paper highlights the fact that regulatory restrictions and the fear of the population of referring to healthcare facilities considering the high risk of getting an infection had significant disruption to medical care for patients with gallstone disease and CLD. Improving the management of medical resources and strengthening all kinds of institutions in the healthcare system must be thought about if similar challenges appear in the future. Introduction: Microbial agents play a crucial role in periapical lesions and despite mechanical preparation, presence of persistent bacteria in root canal system is a challenge. Photodynamic therapy offers a debridement method, utilizing photosensitizers such as Curcumin, Indocyanine Green (ICG), and Methylene Blue (MB). This study aimed to assess and compare the penetration depth of these photosensitizers on the lateral surface of the root canal. Materials and Methods: The crown of 30 single-rooted teeth were separated by a diamond disc. The canals were prepared using a rotary system and were rinsed with 10 mL of 2.5% NaOCl. In order to remove the smear layer debris, 17% EDTA was placed in the root canal for 1 min, then rinsed with NaOCl and saline. The teeth were sterilized by autoclave and randomly assigned to three groups that filled with curcumin, ICG, or MB. Subsequently, they were incubated for 10 min and dried up by paper. Longitudinal sections were cut, and penetration depth of the photosensitizers in coronal, middle, and apical sections were measured using a stereomicroscope. Results: Curcumin demonstrated a higher average penetration depth (3000 µm) than MB, and MB showed higher penetration depth than ICG. Significantly different penetration depths were observed in pairwise comparisons among all three groups (P<0.005). Conclusion: Curcumin with its superior average penetration depth, emerges as a promising choice for effective root canal disinfection in endodontic treatments. Deep Learning neural networks have shown applicability in segmentation of brain tumor images. This research have been carried for comprehensive review of several deep learning neural networks. The datasets included in this study are standard datasets Multimodal Brain Tumor Segmentation (BraTS). This paper has summarized the performance of various deep learning neural network algorithms on BraTS datasets. Algorithms have been compared and summarized against the baseline models with specific attributes like dice score, PPV and sensitivity. It has been found that out of the different models applied on the BraTS 2015 dataset GAN in the year 2020 algorithm is showing better results on this data set. GAN architecture termed RescueNet gave the best segmentation results in terms of 0.94 dice score and 0.88 Sensitivity. This has been also observed that models used cascaded deep learning models had independent deep learning models at each stage which had no correlation among the stages which can cause class imbalance. Further it have found that the Attention models tried to solve problem of class imbalance in the brain tumor segmentation task. This work also found that existing CNN's is having overfitting issues. This paper presents a synopsis of recipients' benefits from the South African COVID-19 social relief fund. The objective of the paper is to evaluate the key benefit of the COVID-19 special grant and if the Grant had a positive impact in the lives of recipients and their family members. The paper applied a mix of succinct review and thematic analysis. Secondary data collection was from the archive of survey questionnaires conducted by the Department of Social Development. Findings from the thematic graphical analysis of the recipients' responses show that more than 93% of the COVID grant recipients used the fund for food. Furthermore, over 88% avowed that the grant had a positive impact in their lives and over 79% of the grant recipients indicated that the fund had a positive impact in the lives of their family members. The findings offer practical and policy implication for government's social security agency. The recipients' acceptance of positive benefit regarding food and overall effect on wellbeing is an indication that extension of the COVID-19 social relief fund or conversion thereof to unemployment security assistance might have the propensity to provide relief from poverty and hunger to recipients and improve social wellbeing. This article conducts a systematic literature review of 52 papers on the determinants of non-performing loans (NPL) published for 2006-2022 in peer-reviewed journals. This paper adds to the development of this emerging field of systematic review in non-medical field settings by mapping existing research to inform future research exploits. This study synthesizes NPL studies by applying the systematic review methodology. The data synthesis is done through first and second-level codes. The first level codes group studies according to bank-specific, borrower-specific and comparative (Islamic vs conventional bank types). The literature is conscientiously analyzed through 13 subcategories using an open coding process. The literature synthesis shows that borrower-specific factors that may determine NPL include borrower profile, internal factors, external factors, and social issues. Also, the bank-specific factors that may influence NPL growth include economic conditions, management competence, profit maximization, and information economics. The findings highlight that the way borrower profiles, banks-specific factors and macroeconomic factors interact to influence NPL still needs more understanding. Further, Islamic banks and conventional banks seem to behave similarly regarding many bank-specific and macroeconomic factors even though the profit and loss sharing contract used in Islamic banks was deemed to moderate NPL positively. But the borrower-specific factors' interaction with bank-specific and macroeconomic factors of Islamic banks clients remains unclear. This paper departs from research illustrating that the development effects of high-speed rail (HSR) vary between cities being locations for stations and assumes that strategic planning and geographical contexts matter. It gives an overview of general planning through local authorities for a coming HSR and its station locations in four Swedish cities and settlements. The results show that, although Sweden represents a planning system with strong mandates for local authorities, strategic planning takes form through multi-level governance. Dyspnea is a common emergency requiring urgent care, and a variety of factors may mislead emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Typically, EMT education uses traditional lectures with paper books. The effect of interactive eBooks on EMT learning has not been explored. This study aims to develop an interactive eBook in dyspnea assessment and management and to evaluate its learning effect. A quasi-experimental design with three repeated measures was used. A total of 117 EMTs were recruited and assigned to the experimental group (eBook, n = 56) and the comparison group (paper book, n = 61). Questionnaires were administered to both groups at three time points. The results show that both materials can improve cognition and that the interactive eBook has better effects than the paper book. The interactive eBook motivated EMT to learn more than the paper book, but motivation did not last for five weeks. The long-term effect of the interactive eBook on confidence compared to the paper book is significant. The eBook can include real cases, concept maps, videos, quizzes, and instant feedback to meet learner needs. Health educators could integrate technology and cognitive strategies into EMTs' training curricula to improve their ability to provide better emergency medical services. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper introduces a novel platform that integrates three preconditioning matrices based on conservative variables: the Turkel, Choi–Merkle and Onur matrices. The platform aims to compare these matrices in terms of accuracy and robustness by investigating their performance in solving three distinct and challenging high-gradient laminar flow problems: (i) Bi-Plane NACA0012 airfoil, (ii) lid-driven flow in a square cavity and (iii) flow in a planar T-junction. These problems serve as new and challenging test cases to accurately determine the abilities of the preconditioning matrices. The preconditioning matrices are applied to evaluate the numerical solutions, and their performance in complex flow fields is assessed in terms of accuracy and efficiency. By solving these flow problems, the effectiveness of the preconditioning matrices is thoroughly analyzed. By integrating these preconditioning matrices into a single platform, this paper significantly contributes to the field. The approach enables a direct and meaningful comparison of the performance of the Turkel, Choi–Merkle and Onur matrices in solving these new and challenging laminar flow problems. While all three matrices demonstrate comparable accuracy in predicting flow characteristics like pressure coefficients, Turkel's method shows superior convergence acceleration across the almost test cases due to alpha parameter and modifications of the momentum equations. In the external flow case, Turkel converges 22–53% faster than the other matrices by adjusting momentum terms with an alpha parameter. For the internal lid-driven cavity case, Turkel again accelerates convergence up to 38% over Choi–Merkle as Reynolds and Mach numbers increase. However, Onur's method stalls at high Reynolds/Mach numbers. At low values of Reynolds and Mach numbers, Onur reduces computational cost by 17%. Finally, for the T-junction case, Turkel and Choi–Merkle perform almost identically, decreasing CPU time by 55% vs Onur, which lacks convergence robustness. While the preconditioning matrices have similar accuracy, Turkel offers the best convergence improvement by accounting for momentum effects. Onur works well at low Reynolds/Mach numbers but shows limitations at higher values. The selection of the optimal preconditioning matrix should be based on whether momentum or viscosity dominates in the flow field, as well as the intensity of the viscosity gradient rate. Aim: Develop evidence‐based recommendations for managers to support primary healthcare nurses to thrive at work. Design: A mixed‐methods sequential explanatory design. Methods: National data were collected in 2020 via an e‐survey based on a meta‐analysis of antecedents of thriving from 213 primary healthcare nurses across New Zealand. Structural equation modelling analysis identified the key factors supporting primary healthcare nurses to thrive. This informed a second open‐ended e‐survey in 2022 of 19 nurses from one primary healthcare organization. The thematic analysis provided recommendations for improving management strategies to support thriving primary healthcare nurses. Results: The vitality component of thriving significantly reduced burnout and intention to leave organization and profession. In contrast, the learning component of thriving had a significant positive effect on burnout. The key factors that support thriving at work are empowering leadership and perceived organizational supports (decreases burnout and intention to leave organization and profession through enhanced vitality). Recommendations for improving thriving were made in eight key areas: communication, effective management, professional development, scope of practice, autonomy, effective orientation, reward and work–life balance. Conclusions: Vitality is important in reducing burnout and turnover intentions. While learning was identified as increasing burnout, professional development and training for managers were identified as essential. In this paper, we theorize the 2016 Brexit referendum as a critical juncture in UK politics and analyse its effects on devolution using the concept of regional authority. We argue that Brexit raised the option of re-balancing the self-rule and shared rule dimensions of regional authority present in UK devolution. We generate hypotheses regarding parties' territorial strategies and test them against a content analysis of 2015 and 2017 UK general election manifestos. We demonstrate that proposals dealing with shared rule grew between 2015 and 2017, within the context of consistency in parties' overall territorial positioning. The governing Conservatives also offered more proposals on shared rule but not ones that increased devolved influence. Overall, they moved from favouring an increase in regional authority in 2015 to the cusp of maintaining existing regional authority and somewhat reducing it in 2017. This helps to explain whypost-Brexit UK government policy in practice maintained a primary focus on self-rule within a general approach of limiting the further growth of regional authority. AI (ethics) initiatives are essential in bringing about fairer, safer, and more trustworthy AI systems. Yet, they also come with various drawbacks, including a lack of effective governance mechanisms, window-dressing, and 'ethics shopping.' To address those concerns, hard laws are necessary, and more and more countries are moving in this direction. Two of the most notable recent legislations include the Biden Administration's Executive Order (EO) on AI and the E.U.'s AI Act (AIA). While several scholarly articles have evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of the AIA and proposed reform measures that could help strengthen the Act, only a couple of papers do the same for the EO or compare the two regulatory initiatives. The following sections try to close this research gap by providing an in-depth comparative analysis of the EO and AIA. They offer, in particular, a critical computer-ethical evaluation of the EO's and AIA's pros and cons and similarities and differences and discuss possible ways to improve both legislations. Recently, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in bathymetric applications has become very popular due to the rapid and periodic acquisition of high spatial resolution data that provide detailed modeling of shallow water body depths and obtaining geospatial information. In UAV-based bathymetry, the sensor characteristics, imaging geometries, and the quality of radiometric and geometric calibrations of the imagery are the basic factors to achieve most reliable results. Digital bathymetric models (DBMs) that enable three-dimensional bottom topography definition of water bodies can be generated using many different techniques. In this paper, the effect of different UAV imaging bands and DBM generation techniques on the quality of bathymetric 3D modeling was deeply analyzed by visual and statistical model-based comparison approaches utilizing reference data acquired by a single-beam echosounder. In total, four different DBMs were generated and evaluated, two from dense point clouds derived from red--green--blue (RGB) single-band and multispectral (MS) fiveband aerial photos, and the other two from Stumpf and Lyzenga empirical satellite-based bathymetry (SDB) adapted to UAV data. The applications were performed in the Tavșan Island located in Istanbul, Turkey. The results of statistical model-based analyses demonstrated that the accuracies of the DBMs are arranged as RGB, MS, Lyzenga, and Stumpf from higher to lower and the standard deviation of height differences are between ±0.26 m and ±0.54 m. Background: Oral fluid intake decreases in advanced cancer in the dying phase of illness. There is inadequate evidence to support the assessment, and management, of hydration in the dying. Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is a body composition assessment tool. BIA has the potential to inform clinal management in advanced cancer, by examining the relationships between hydration status and clinical variables. Aim: BIA was used to determine the association between hydration status, symptoms, clinical signs, quality-of-life and survival in advanced cancer, including those who are dying (i.e. in the last week of life). Materials and methods: We conducted a prospective observational study of people with advanced cancer in three centres. Advance consent methodology was used to conduct hydration assessments in the dying. Total body water was estimated using the BIA Impedance index (Height – H (m)2 /Resistance – R (Ohms)). Backward regression was used to identify factors (physical signs, symptoms, quality of life) that predicted H2/R. Participants in the last 7 days of life were further assessed with BIA to assess hydration changes, and its relationship with clinical outcomes. Results: One hundred and twenty-five people participated (males n = 74 (59.2%), females, n = 51 (40.8%)). We used backward regression analysis to describe a statistical model to predict hydration status in advanced cancer. The model demonstrated that 'less hydration' (lower H2/R) was associated with female sex (Beta = -0.39, p < 0.001), increased appetite (Beta = -0.12, p = 0.09), increased dehydration assessment scale score (dry mouth, dry axilla, sunken eyes - Beta = -0.19, p = 0.006), and increased breathlessness (Beta = -0.15, p = 0.03). 'More hydration' (higher H2/R) was associated with oedema (Beta = 0.49, p < 0.001). In dying participants (n = 18, 14.4%), hydration status (H2/R) was not significantly different compared to their baseline measurements (n = 18, M = 49.6, SD = 16.0 vs. M = 51.0, SD = 12.1; t(17) = 0.64, p = 0.53) and was not significantly associated with agitation (rs = -0.85, p = 0.74), pain (rs = 0.31, p = 0.23) or respiratory tract secretions (rs = -0.34, p = 0.19). Conclusions: This is the first study to use bioimpedance to report a model (using clinical factors) to predict hydration status in advanced cancer. Our data demonstrates the feasibility of using an advance consent method to conduct research in dying people. This method can potentially improve the evidence base (and hence, quality of care) for the dying. Future BIA research can involve hydration assessment of cancers (according to type and stage) and associated variables (e.g., stage of illness, ethnicity and gender). Further work can use BIA to identify clinically relevant outcomes for hydration studies and establish a core outcome set to evaluate how hydration affects symptoms and quality-of-life in cancer. Background: Instructional videos constitute a pivotal component in flipped learning. Despite their significance, there is a dearth of research specifically dedicated to instructional videos within the context of flipped classrooms. This paucity has led to an empirical void in verifying the efficacy of instructional videos in flipped learning environments. Objectives: The present study endeavours to contribute to the extant literature on flipped pedagogical practices by providing empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of instructional videos in flipped learning environments. Methods: This study employs a convergent mixed‐methods design. Forty‐five instructional videos in three subtypes were administered in two classes over a 15‐week semester. Data, both quantitative (log data from the learning management system) and qualitative (from focus group discussions at two time points), were concurrently collected from a flipped class (n = 25) and a blended class (n = 28) with the aim of gauging student engagement and learning outcomes in the flipped class and understanding video‐viewing features typical of the flipped class. Results: Both datasets corroborated that participants in the flipped class outperformed their counterparts in the blended class in terms of video‐watching, peer interaction, knowledge retention, and transfer skills. Conclusions: The instructional videos within the flipped classroom setting serve to enhance student engagement in the learning process and improve learning outcomes. The efficacy of these instructional videos in flipped learning can be further augmented through strategic approaches in both their design and implementation. Background: In example‐based learning, examples are often combined with generative activities, such as comparative self‐explanations of example cases. Comparisons induce heavy demands on working memory, especially in complex domains. Hence, only stronger learners may benefit from comparative self‐explanations. While static text‐based examples can be compared easily, this is challenging for transient video‐based modelling examples used in complex domains because simultaneous processing of two videos is not feasible. Objectives: To allow for such comparisons, we combined video‐based modelling examples with static representations (i.e., summarizing tables) of the observed optimal and a suboptimal solution of the problem‐solving process. A comparative self‐explanation prompt asked learners to compare the different solution approaches. Our study investigated the impact of video‐based modelling examples versus independent problem‐solving on cognitive load and problem‐solving skill development. Moreover, we investigated the effects of comparative versus sequential self‐explanation prompts, depending on learners' prior knowledge. Methods: In an experiment, 118 automotive apprentices learned a car malfunction diagnosis strategy. Apprentices were divided into three groups: (1) modelling examples with comparative self‐explanation prompts, (2) modelling examples with sequential prompts, and (3) no examples or prompts. Diagnostic knowledge and skills were assessed before and after the intervention. Cognitive load was measured retrospectively. Results and conclusions: Despite no observed effects on cognitive load, modelling examples enhanced diagnostic knowledge and diagnostic skills with scaffolds, though not independent diagnostic skills without scaffolds. The need for more practice opportunities to foster independent diagnostic skills is assumed. Additionally, comparative prompts seem promising for learners with higher prior knowledge. Takeaways: Video‐based modelling examples were more beneficial for learning than practising to apply the diagnostic strategy. Static representations allow for comparisons of video examples and comparative prompts are promising for learners with higher prior knowledge (cf. expertise‐reversal effect). Background: Social annotation has emerged as a promising educational technology that fosters collaborative reading and discussion of digital resources among learners. While the positive impact of social annotation on students' learning process and performance is widely acknowledged, students' behavioural patterns in social annotation are underexplored. Objectives: This study investigated patterns in students' use of annotation and response behaviours in social annotation activities. We also explored how students' performance in the behavioural, cognitive, emotional, and social dimensions varied based on their behavioural patterns. Methods: We recruited 93 undergraduates who were enrolled in an elective course at a large North American University. Students were tasked with collaboratively annotating the class readings uploaded to Perusall, a social annotation platform, over 7 weeks. We used metaclustering to determine the optimal number of clusters pertaining to student behaviours. We compared the differences among clusters across multiple performance dimensions. Results and Conclusions: Two distinct clusters were identified and defined as initiators and responders. We found that responders had significantly longer active reading time and exhibited greater social annotation effort compared to initiators. However, initiators received more peer acknowledgement, as evidenced by higher upvotes. No significant difference was found in cognitive insight between initiators and responders, but responders demonstrated significantly higher cognitive discrepancy. Additionally, there were no significant differences in positive and negative tones between initiators and responders; however, responders displayed higher levels of prosocial behaviours than initiators. This study has significant practical implications regarding promoting students' collaborative learning experience in social annotation. The study compares China's technological landscape with that of both developed economies and those stuck in the middle-income trap, identifying the necessity of transitioning from applied to original technology for economic leapfrogging. Through comprehensive analysis, it is highlighted that China's current technological capabilities, although leading in certain areas, predominantly remain at an intermediate level, characterized by a significant reliance on foreign core technologies and a lack of original technological innovation. The paper further explores historical contexts, policy implications, and strategic reforms required to navigate this trap, emphasizing the importance of an open policy, the cultivation of a robust innovation ecosystem, and the strategic role of government in facilitating technological progress and industrial upgrading. Aim: To explore the effectiveness and acceptability of a pilot mentoring program for alcohol and other drug (AOD) nurse practitioners (also known globally as addiction nurse practitioners). Design: Mixed method evaluation. Methods: Two‐phase evaluation comprising survey (demographics, pre‐ and post‐program perceived competency and confidence) with 15 participants completing the pre survey and 10 participants completing the post survey, and qualitative interviews after the program with 10 participants. Results: The quantitative results indicate statistically significant increases in some domains of perceived competence and confidence in treatment. Qualitative findings indicate that participants valued peer support and mentoring from experienced nurse practitioners. Where formal residency or internship programs for nurse practitioners do not exist, informal mentoring programs may address issues inherent in nurse practitioner transition that may impact retention. We recommend further exploration of mentoring programs with larger sample sizes to determine if self‐reported clinical improvements are noted. Implications for Profession and/or Patient Care: Nurse practitioners are a vital part of the healthcare system; their advanced skills and knowledge place them in an ideal position to address prescriber shortages and access to care for populations underserved by healthcare. However, literature indicates that they are often underutilised, and transition to autonomous practice remains a challenge. Our exploration of a pilot mentoring program for nurse practitioners shows that their knowledge and perceived skills are high, yet peer assistance is valued in transitioning from advanced practice registered nurse to autonomous nurse practitioner. We recommend further trialling and evaluation of nurse practitioner mentoring programs to both increase supply of nurse practitioners and provide greater access to quality healthcare for underserved populations. Background: This study examines the perceptions of the Australian public canvassed in 2021 during the COVID‐19 pandemic about their health system compared to four previous surveys (2008, 2010, 2012 and 2018). Methods: In 2021, a nationwide online survey was conducted with a representative sample of Australians (N = 5100) recruited via market research panels. The results were compared to previous nationwide Australian survey samples from 2018 (N = 1024), 2012 (N = 1200), 2010 (N = 1201) and 2008 (N = 1146). The survey included questions consistent with previous polls regarding self‐reported health status and overall opinions of, and confidence in, the Australian health system. Results: There was an increase in the proportion of respondents reporting positive perceptions at each survey between 2008 and 2021, with a significantly higher proportion of respondents expressing a more positive view of the Australian healthcare system in 2021 compared to previous years (χ2(8, N = 9645) = 487.63, p < 0.001). In 2021, over two‐thirds of respondents (n = 3949/5100, 77.4%) reported that following the COVID‐19 pandemic, their confidence in the Australian healthcare system had either remained the same (n = 2433/5100, 47.7%) or increased (n = 1516/5100, 29.7%). Overall, respondents living in regional or remote regions, younger Australians (< 45 years) and women held less positive views in relation to the system. In 2021, the most frequently identified area for urgent improvement was the need for more healthcare workers (n = 1350/3576, 37.8%), an area of concern particularly for Australians residing in regional or remote areas (n = 590/1385, 42.6%). Conclusions: Irrespective of disruptions to the Australian healthcare system caused by the COVID‐19 pandemic, Australians' perceptions of their healthcare system were positive in 2021. However, concerns were raised about inadequate workforce capacity and the cost of healthcare, with differences identified by age groups and geographical location. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is experiencing rapid expansion, forming a vast network of interconnected devices, sensors, and machines that generate large volumes of data. In the context of Industry 5.0, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of this data is essential. This paper addresses the challenges of detecting and classifying cyberattacks within the IIoT by employing advanced analytical techniques. Specifically, we explore the application of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, focusing on the comparison between the XGBoost and Naïve Bayes models. Our study uses the KDD-99 and NSL KDD datasets to evaluate the performance of these models in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. The results demonstrate that the XGBoost model significantly outperforms the Naïve Bayes model across all metrics, achieving an accuracy of 99%. These parts include principally electric motors, inverters, batteries, wheels, axles, differentials, and transmissions. Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) is one of the most popular used motors in the electric powertrain due to its several benefits over other AC motors, such as its small size, low weight, wide range of speed, elevated overload capacity, elevated power factor, and elevated efficiency. This paper compares the performance of PI and sliding-mode controllers for PMSM employed in electric vehicle applications with single-motor drive configurations. In this paper, we introduce an agent rescue scheduling approach grounded in proximal policy optimization, coupled with a singularity-free predefined-time control strategy. The primary objective of this methodology is to bolster the efficiency and precision of rescue missions. Firstly, we have designed an evaluation function closely related to the average flying distance of agents, which provides a quantitative benchmark for assessing different scheduling schemes and assists in optimizing the allocation of rescue resources. Secondly, we have developed a scheduling strategy optimization method using the Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) algorithm. This method can automatically learn and adjust scheduling strategies to adapt to complex rescue environments and varying task demands. The evaluation function provides crucial feedback signals for the PPO algorithm, ensuring that the algorithm can precisely adjust the scheduling strategies to achieve optimal results. Thirdly, aiming to attain stability and precision in agent navigation to designated positions, we formulate a singularity-free predefined-time fuzzy adaptive tracking control strategy. This approach dynamically modulates control parameters in reaction to external disturbances and uncertainties, thus ensuring the precise arrival of agents at their destinations within the predefined time. Finally, to substantiate the validity of our proposed approach, we crafted a simulation environment in Python 3.7, engaging in a comparative analysis between the PPO and the other optimization method, Deep Q-network (DQN), utilizing the variation in reward values as the benchmark for evaluation. This paper deals with a weighting technique for a class of multiple cost optimization problems with interval values. More specifically, we introduce a multiobjective interval-valued controlled model and investigate it by applying the weighting method. In this regard, several characterization theorems are derived. Moreover, a numerical example is formulated. Based on the provided illustrative example and performing a comparative analysis of the results obtained using the weighting technique versus traditional optimization methods, we can easily conclude the effectiveness of the weighting technique in solving multiple cost optimization problems, that is, the conversion of a vector problem to a scalar one. This paper provides a comprehensive theoretical derivation of the residual noise power and effective isotropic isolation (EII) signal models in baseband digital cancellation, aperture-level digital cancellation, and beamforming spatial cancellation models in simultaneous transmit and receive (STAR) arrays. We simulated and analyzed the isolation performance and self-interference (SI) noise cancellation of STAR systems using digital SI cancellation (SIC) and beamforming in a 32-element planar array. The simulation results show that in the absence of SIC or baseband digital SIC, the EII obtained by receive adaptive beamforming (ABF) is 20 dB higher than that obtained by transmit ABF. On the basis of aperture-level digital SIC, the EII obtained from transmit ABF and receive ABF is basically the same. The EII obtained by baseband digital SIC is 22.5 dB and 41.1 dB lower than that of transmit ABF and receive ABF, respectively. Introduction: Digitalization in medicine is steadily increasing. Complex treatments, scarce personnel resources and a high level of documentation are a constant burden on healthcare systems. The balancing between correct manual documentation in the digital records and limited staff resources is rarely successful. The aim of this study is to evaluate the adherence between documentation and lack of documentation in the treatment of critical care patients. Material and Methods: For the evaluation, data from the hospital information system (HIS) of several intensive care units (ICU) were examined in conjunction with data collected from a checklist. All boluses of sedatives, analgesics and catecholamines were documented paper based across all shifts and all weekdays and compared with corresponding digital data from the HIS (2019–2022) of previous years. Results: 939 complete digital patient records revealed a massive under-documentation of the medication administration compared to that applied according to the checklist. Only 12% of all administered catecholamines, 11% of α2-agonists, 33% of propofol, 92% of midazolam and 46% of opioids were found in the digital recordings. In comparison, the effect was more pronounced on weekdays compared to weekends. In addition, the highest documentation gap was found in the comparison of early shifts. Comparing neurosurgical vs. internal vs. anesthesiologic ICUs there was a highly significant difference between anesthesiologic ICUs compared with other disciplines (p < 0.0001). Discussion: Our data shows that there is a remarkable documentation gap and incongruence in the area of applied boli. Automated documentation by connecting syringe pumps that enter data directly into the HIS can not only reduce the workload, but also lead to comprehensive and legally required documentation of all administered medication. Aims: The present study aimed to explore the effects of a guided self‐help mindfulness intervention on psychological resilience and job burnout among psychiatric nurses. Background: Psychiatric nurses work in challenging and potentially high stress settings. Mindfulness interventions can improve psychological resilience and reduce job burnout of nurses. However, face‐to‐face delivery of mindfulness interventions may be inconvenient for individuals. Guided self‐help interventions may be more accessible. Methods: This randomized controlled trial was conducted from January to August 2022. One hundred and eighteen psychiatric nurses were randomized into the intervention and control groups. The individuals in the intervention group received an 8‐week guided self‐help mindfulness intervention, while the individuals in the control group received a psycho‐educational brochure. The Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, the Connor‐Davidson Resilience Scale and the Maslach Burnout Inventory‐Human Services Survey were used to evaluate the levels of mindfulness, psychological resilience and job burnout, respectively. Results: After an 8‐week intervention, compared with the control group, the levels of mindfulness and psychological resilience were higher, while the level of job burnout was lower in the intervention group. Conclusions: The guided self‐help mindfulness intervention can improve psychological resilience and reduce job burnout among psychiatric nurses. This paper presents an improved rule-based control scheme for battery energy storage (BES) system with the goal of minimising the fluctuation output from photovoltaic (PV) sources while ensuring the operational constraints of BES are regulated at the specified ranges for safety purposes. The control scheme is formulated in accordance with the intended operational limitations of the BES, including charge/discharge current limits and state-of-charge (SOC). The simulation studies were carried out using MATLAB/Simulink to evaluate the effectiveness of an improved rule-based control scheme on the 1.2 MW PV system data acquired from a location in Malaysia. Furthermore, a comparative study on the effectiveness of an improved rule-based control scheme compared with the conventional rule-based control scheme has been carried out. The simulation results show that an improved rule-based control scheme can effectively reduce the fluctuations in the output power of the PV sources and dispatch the output to the utility grid on an hourly basis with an efficiency of up to 94.47%. Finally, the comparison results on the effects of the BESS capacity also illustrate that an improved rule-based control scheme is more effective compared to the conventional rule-based control scheme in the previous study. Objectives: Individuals living with young-onset dementia fall through the gaps of adult and geriatric services. Given that non-cognitive symptoms of dementia in younger people are often psychiatric and behavioural in nature, these people may contact mental health services. There is sparse information investigating the frequency of people with young-onset dementia who contact mental health triage in Victoria. Methods: Triage data were obtained from the Victorian Agency for Health Information. The data contained demographics for people registered with Victorian mental health services. Consumers who had an International Classification for Diseases code for dementia and were aged less than 65 years were identified as people with young-onset dementia. Using information of the frequency of people with young-onset dementia who were registered with each area-based mental health service, population census statistics were used to make estimates of the frequency of young-onset dementia. Results: Of the 6172 people who had a dementia diagnosis, 1020 of them were aged less than 65 years and had young-onset dementia. There were proportionally more men who had young-onset dementia compared to women. There were more people with young-onset dementia registered to rural mental health services compared to metropolitan services. Conclusion: Findings provide important information for service planning in Victoria. Recommendations include upskilling and education for the assessment of dementia for those clinicians who work in mental health services, particularly in rural regions. What is known about the topic? Objective: In Australia, there is little evidence exploring why higher degrees by research (HDRs) are undertaken by surgeons. This study aims to describe the attitudes and experiences of surgical trainees and surgeons towards HDRs. Methods: A 23-question cross-sectional survey of surgical trainees and consultant surgeons from three Australian public hospitals was undertaken between August and December 2022. Data were analysed according to stage of career and HDR status and assessed using chi-squared test, with P < 0.05 considered significant. Results: Out of 270 participants, 72 (27%) completed the survey including 30 (42%) trainees and 42 (58%) consultants. Overall, 43 (60%) participants had completed or were undertaking a HDR, which was similar between trainees (n = 18) and consultants (N = 25; P = 0.968). A HDR was associated with more publications (P < 0.5). Respondents with a HDR were more likely to have a salaried academic position (50%) than those without (15%). There was no significant difference in academic appointments based on HDR attainment (P = 0.192). For surgical trainees, 93% rated the strengthening of resumes as the primary driver, compared with only 60% of consultants. For consultants, academic career aspirations and research interests were ranked the highest at 64% equally. Lack of time and competing nature of surgical training were equally ranked among all as the key barriers to completing a HDR. Conclusions: These results provide insight into the academic pursuits of surgeons with an understanding of the role HDRs play, including the different drivers for Masters and Doctorates. This is important for supporting future surgeons who seek to pursue research. What is known about the topic? This case study evaluated the effects of a health package (HP) of a light intensity individualised exercise program and advice on anxiety management and nutrition, on the physical and mental health of people with or without COVID-19, who were quarantined in hotels used as Special Health Accommodation and admitted to the Royal Prince Alfred Virtual Hospital, Sydney during the COVID-19 pandemic. After initial screening and consenting, participants completed three surveys: Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale; Brief Fatigue Inventory; and the European Quality of Life 5-Dimensions 5-Levels, and were provided with the HP for the duration of their quarantine. The three surveys and a participant reported experience measure were completed prior to discharge. The HP for people in quarantine demonstrated stability of health outcomes and reduction in fatigue. Most participants reported that the HP helped them cope with isolation. Provision of a HP during quarantine could be useful to support physical and mental health. What is known about the topic? This paper presents a comparative efficiency analysis of hashing algorithms from a perspective of their use in systems based on the zero-knowledge succinct non-interactive argument of knowledge (zk-SNARK). Hash functions sha256, sha3, poseidon, mimc, and blake2, most commonly used in modern distributed ledgers, are considered. For parameter measurement experiments, an infrastructure using the ZoKrates toolbox is developed. Based on experimental data, the limits of practical applicability of the algorithms to the problem of proving knowledge of a hash preimage with zk-SNARK circuits in distributed ledgers are determined, and related efficiency problems are considered.
