Carbon monoxide (CO) delivery molecules are of significant current interest as potential therapeutics, including for anticancer applications. A recent approach toward generating new types of materials-based anticancer agents involves combining the Fenton reactivity of a redox active metal ion with CO delivery. However, small molecule examples of these types of entities have not been systematically studied to evaluate the combined effect on cellular toxicity. Herein we describe a Cu(II) flavonolato complex which produces anticancer effects through a combination of copper-mediated reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and light-induced flavonol CO release. Confocal microscopy studies provide evidence of enhanced flavonol uptake in the copper flavonolato system relative to the free flavonol, which leads to an increased amount of CO delivery within cells. In 2014, the Hazelwood mine fire burned for 45 days. Local communities were impacted by smoke and ash, and there were reports of raised carbon monoxide levels. Local news and social media reported residents experiencing numerous physical symptoms of smoke inhalation, including bleeding noses, coughing, wheezing and chest tightness. Paper masks to filter particulate matter were made available to residents to wear outside. The dust and ash constantly seeped into homes and offices, which required cleaning daily and sometimes multiple times during the day. Smoke was free to move across physical and bodily boundaries while those most vulnerable were hampered by lack of movement: pregnant women, the elderly and children were advised to leave the area. However, this suggestion to 'simply' move ignored the context of a community disproportionately impacted through years of economic decline and societal change. This paper explores the unequal mobilities of smoke and people that arose as a result of this event and draws on concepts of mobility justice (Sheller 2018) and emergency mobilities (Adey 2016) to reflect on the political dimensions of uneven mobility in times of crisis. At the core of carbon monoxide dehydrogenase (CODH) active site two metal ions together with hydrogen bonding scheme from amino acids orchestrate the interconversion between CO2 and CO. We have designed a molecular catalyst implementing a bimetallic iron complex with an embarked second coordination sphere with multi‐point hydrogen‐bonding interactions. We found that, when immobilized on carbon paper electrode, the dinuclear catalyst enhances up to four fold the heterogeneous CO2 reduction to CO in water with an improved selectivity and stability compared to the mononuclear analogue. Interestingly, quasi‐identical catalytic performances are obtained when one of the two iron centers was replaced by a redox inactive Zn metal, questioning the cooperative action of the two metals. Snapshots of X‐ray structures indicate that the two metalloporphyrin units tethered by a urea group is a good compromise between rigidity and flexibility to accommodate CO2 capture, activation, and reduction. Thin-cut smoking tobacco is gaining more and more popularity among consumers of tobacco products. However, this type of product remains poorly understood, including the chemical composition of its smoke. The analysis of the data on the chemical composition of the smoke of smoking tobacco products of various designs is an urgent task from the point of view of assessing the toxic load. It will help further to develop recommendations and suggestions for consumers in the manufacture of these products. The main purpose of this work is to study the effect of the product design (diameter, weight and air permeability of paper) on the chemical composition of smoke and tasting assessment. This article discusses the technological properties of smoking tobacco brands: «Pepe», «Stanley», «Corsar», «Redmont». The chemical composition of tobacco (nicotine, proteins, carbohydrates and pH) was analyzed. The analysis of the composition and breathability of paper for self-rolled cigarettes of the brands «OCB Premium» and «OCB Organic Hemp» used for the manufacture of tobacco products from thin-cut tobacco, of different diameters. The influence of the design features of the products (diameter and weight) was studied on the chemical composition of smoke (nicotine, resin, carbon monoxide). Experimentally, the dependence of the chemical composition of smoke on the air permeability of paper and the design features of thin-cut tobacco products has been established: when using paper with low air permeability and with an increase in the diameter and weight of products, the nicotine content increases by 37,55% and resin by 39,54%. The dependence between the nicotine content in tobacco and nicotine in the smoke of tobacco products from thin-cut tobacco was revealed.

Purpose: Sensing technology has been extensively researched and used due to its applications in industrial production and daily life. Due to inherent limitations of conventional silicon-based technology, researchers are now-a-days paying more attention to flexible electronics to design low-cost, high-sensitivity devices. This observational and analytical study aims to emphasis on carbon monoxide gas sensor. This review also focuses the challenges faced by flexible devices, offers the most recent research on paper-based gas sensors and pays special focus on various sensing materials and fabrication techniques. Design/methodology/approach: To get the better insight into opportunities for future improvement, a number of research papers based on sensors were studied and realized the need to design carbon monoxide gas sensor. A number of parameters were then gone through to decide the flexibility parameter to be considered for design purposes. This review also focuses on the challenges faced by flexible devices and how they can be overcome. Findings: It has been shown that carbon monoxide gas, being most contaminated gas, needs to be fabricated to sense low concentration at room temperature, considering flexibility as an important parameter. Regarding this parameter, some tests must be done to test whether the structure sustains or degrades after bending. The parameters required to perform bending are also described. The rapid urbanization and industrialization have caused a significant increase in environmental pollution, especially in air quality. This paper introduces an IoT-based environmental monitoring system to address these issues. Using state-of-the-art IoT technology, the system deploys sensors in key locations to continuously collect data on air quality indicators like Particulate Matter (PM), Carbon Monoxide (CO), and Ozone (O3). The collected data is wirelessly transmitted to a central server for processing and analysis. The system provides real-time and historical data through a user-friendly interface, enabling users to monitor current conditions, identify trends, and identify potential pollution sources. The key features include scalability, allowing for the addition of new sensors, and proactive decision-making through alerts when environmental parameters exceed predefined thresholds. Syngas, a gaseous mixture of CO, H 2 and CO 2 , can be produced by gasification of carbon-containing materials, including organic waste materials or lignocellulosic biomass. The conversion of bio-based syngas to chemicals is foreseen as an important process in circular bioeconomy. Carbon monoxide is also produced as a waste gas in many industrial sectors (e.g., chemical, energy, steel). Often, the purity level of bio-based syngas and waste gases is low and/or the ratios of syngas components are not adequate for chemical conversion (e.g., by Fischer-Tropsch). Microbes are robust catalysts to transform impure syngas into a broad spectrum of products. Fermentation of CO-rich waste gases to ethanol has reached commercial scale (by axenic cultures of Clostridium species), but production of other chemical building blocks is underexplored. Currently, genetic engineering of carboxydotrophic acetogens is applied to increase the portfolio of products from syngas/CO, but the limited energy metabolism of these microbes limits product yields and applications (for example, only products requiring low levels of ATP for synthesis can be produced). An alternative approach is to explore microbial consortia, including open mixed cultures and synthetic co-cultures, to create a metabolic network based on CO conversion that can yield products such as medium-chain carboxylic acids, higher alcohols and other added-value chemicals., (© 2021. Abstract: Infarct size is a major determinant of outcomes after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Carbon monoxide-releasing molecules (CORMs), which deliver nanomolar concentrations of carbon monoxide to tissues, have been shown to reduce infarct size in rodents. We evaluated efficacy and safety of CORM-A1 to reduce infarct size in a clinically relevant porcine model of AMI. We induced AMI in Yorkshire White pigs by inflating a coronary angioplasty balloon to completely occlude the left anterior descending artery for 60 minutes, followed by deflation of the balloon to mimic reperfusion. Fifteen minutes after balloon occlusion, animals were given an infusion of 4.27 mM CORM-A1 (n = 7) or sodium borate control (n = 6) over 60 minutes. Infarct size, cardiac biomarkers, ejection fraction, and hepatic and renal function were compared amongst the groups. Immunohistochemical analyses were performed to compare inflammation, cell proliferation, and apoptosis between the groups. CORM-A1-treated animals had significant reduction in absolute infarct area (158 ± 16 vs. 510 ± 91 mm2, P < 0.001) and infarct area corrected for area at risk (24.8% ± 2.6% vs. 45.2% ± 4.0%, P < 0.0001). Biochemical markers of myocardial injury also tended to be lower and left ventricular function tended to recover better in the CORM-A1 treated group. There was no evidence of hepatic or renal toxicity with the doses used. The cardioprotective effects of CORM-A1 were associated with a significant reduction in cell proliferation and inflammation. CORM-A1 reduces infarct size and improves left ventricular remodeling and function in a porcine model of reperfused MI by a reduction in inflammation. Carbon monoxide (CO) is a toxic, hazardous gas that has a colorless and odorless nature. On the other hand, CO possesses some physiological roles as a signaling molecule that regulates neurotransmitters in addition to its hazardous effects. Because of the dual nature of CO, there is a need to develop a sensitive, selective, and rapid method for its detection. Herein, we designed and synthesized a turn-on fluorescence probe, 2-(2′-nitrophenyl)-4(3H)-quinazolinone (NPQ), for the detection of CO. NPQ provided a turn-on fluorescence response to CO and the fluorescence intensity at 500 nm was increased with increasing the concentration of CO. This fluorescence enhancement could be attributed to the conversion of the nitro group of NPQ to an amino group by the reducing ability of CO. The fluorescence assay for CO using NPQ as a reagent was confirmed to have a good linear relationship in the range of 1.0 to 50 µM with an excellent correlation coefficient (r) of 0.997 and good sensitivity down to a limit of detection at 0.73 µM (20 ppb) defined as mean blank+3SD. Finally, we successfully applied NPQ to the preparation of a test paper that can detect CO generated from charcoal combustion.

This paper provides a comprehensive review of the fundamental impacts of excess air ratio (λ) on emissions and engine performance in spark-ignition engines. It examines pollutants such as oxides of nitrogen, unburned hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide under both lean and ultra-lean conditions. In this paper, mainly the most prominent, up to date, and effective technologies such as ignition strategy, injection strategy, fuel blending, pre-chamber addition, are included. In addition to the effect the excess air ratio has on emissions, engine performance and efficiency are reviewed. This is done through the analysis of the Indicated Mean Effective Pressure, Coefficient of Variation, Fuel Consumption and Indicated Thermal Efficiency. The topics discussed relate to the primary categories listed above, but they are not exclusive to them. In this article, the formation of laser-induced graphene on the two natural polymers, cellulose, and lignin, as precursors was investigated with molecular dynamics simulations and some experiments. These eco-friendly polymers provide significant industrial advantages due to their low cost, biodegradability, and recyclable aspects. It was discovered during the simulation that LIG has numerous defects and a porous structure. Carbon monoxide, H2, and water vapor are gases released by cellulose and lignin substrates. H2O and CO are released when the polymer transforms into an amorphous structure. Later on, as the amorphous structure changes into an ordered graphitic structure, H2 is released continuously. Since cellulose monomer has a higher mass proportion of oxygen (49%) than lignin monomer (29%), it emits more CO. The LIG structure contains many 5- and 7-carbon rings, which cause the structure to have bends and undulations that go out of the plane. In addition, to verify the molecular dynamics simulation results with experimental tests, we used a carbon dioxide laser to transform filter paper, as a cellulose material, and coconut shell, as a lignin material, into graphene. The object of the study is the selective coefficient of variation of dangerous parameters of the gas environment during the ignition of materials. The measure of the sample coefficient of variation of an arbitrary hazardous parameter of the gas environment observed at an arbitrary time interval is substantiated. The representativeness error of the measure of the sampling coefficient of variation, which depends on the value of the measure and the sample size, was determined. The measure allows you to numerically determine its value for an arbitrary observation interval. The difference in the measure at the intervals corresponding to the reliable absence and occurrence of ignition allows to detect the occurrence of ignition of the material. According to the results of laboratory studies, the measures of the sample coefficient of variation for carbon monoxide concentration, smoke density, and temperature of the gas medium in the laboratory chamber at intervals of absence and appearance of ignition of alcohol, paper, wood, and textiles were determined. It was established that the dangerous parameters of the gas environment at the intervals of absence and presence of ignition are characterized by different values of the increase in the measure of the sample coefficient of variation. For example, it is determined that the ignition of alcohol causes the maximum increase in the measure for carbon monoxide concentration from 0.135 to 0.441, for smoke density from 0.629 to 0.805, and for temperature from 0.001 to 0.115. When paper catches fire, the measure for carbon monoxide concentration and temperature increases from 0.0026 to 0.140 and from 0.0019 to 0.05, respectively. When burning wood, the measure for carbon monoxide concentration and temperature increases from 0.0072 to 0.177 and from 0.0067 to 0.016, respectively. The obtained results, provided that the hazardous parameters of the gas environment in the premises are measured and the sample coefficient of variation is calculated in practice, make it possible to use them in the creation of early fire detection systems. With the rapid development of urban road traffic and the increasing number of vehicles, how to alleviate traffic congestion is one of the hot issues that need to be urgently addressed in building smart cities. Therefore, in this paper, a nonlinear multi-objective optimization model of urban intersection signal timing based on a Genetic Algorithm was constructed. Specifically, a typical urban intersection was selected as the research object, and drivers' acceleration habits were taken into account. What'smore, the shortest average delay time, the least average number of stops, and themaximumcapacity of the intersection were regarded as the optimization objectives. The optimization results show that compared with the Webster method when the vehicle speed is 60 km/h and the acceleration is 2.5 m/s², the signal intersection timing scheme based on the proposed Genetic Algorithm multi-objective optimization reduces the intersection signal cycle time by 14.6%, the average vehicle delay time by 12.9%, the capacity by 16.2%, and the average number of vehicles stop by 0.4%. To verify the simulation results, the authors imported the optimized timing scheme into the constructed Simulation of the Urban Mobility model. The experimental results show that the authors optimized timing scheme is superior to Webster's in terms of vehicle average loss time reduction, carbon monoxide emission, particulate matter emission, and vehicle fuel consumption. The object of the study is the coefficients of asymmetry and excess of the selective distribution of hazardous parameters of the gas environment during material fires. The practical importance of the research lies in the use of measures of asymmetry and kurtosis for early detection of fires. The measures of asymmetry and kurtosis for sampling the final size of an arbitrary dangerous parameter of the gas environment are substantiated. The proposed measures make it possible to investigate the peculiarities of the coefficients of asymmetry and kurtosis in relation to the selective distribution of an arbitrary dangerous parameter of the gas environment. At the same time, it becomes possible to numerically determine the degree of difference of the sample distributions of dangerous parameters from the Gaussian, as well as the features of such measures. Experiments were conducted to determine the degree of asymmetry and excess of dangerous parameters of the gas environment in the laboratory chamber at the intervals of the absence and presence of ignition of the test materials. The obtained results indicate that on the intervals of absence and presence of fires, the selective distributions of dangerous parameters of the gas environment differ from the Gaussian distribution. Distributions are complex and individual in nature. Features of measures of asymmetry and kurtosis depend on the type of ignition material. It was established that the maximum values of the modulus of increase in the degree of asymmetry are characteristic for the carbon monoxide concentration (2.939) during the ignition of paper, for the smoke density (3.098) during the ignition of textiles, as well as for the temperature during the ignition of alcohol (7.163) and wood (1.06). Syngas and CO-rich off-gases are key chemical platforms to produce biofuels and bioproducts. From the perspective of optimizing and up-scaling CO co-digestion with organic waste streams, this study aims at assessing and quantifying the inhibitory effects of CO on acidogenic glucose fermentation and aceticlastic methanogenesis. Mesophilic cultures were fed in two sets of batch assays, respectively, with glucose and acetate while being exposed to dissolved CO in equilibrium with partial pressures in the range of 0.25-1.00 atm. Cumulative methane production and microbial monitoring revealed that aceticlastic methanogenic archaea were significantly inhibited (2-20 % of the methane production of CO non-exposed cultures). The acidogenic glucose degrading community was also inhibited by CO, although, thanks to its functional redundancy, shifted its metabolism towards propionate production. Carbon monoxide (CO) has emerged as a potential antitumor agent by inducing the dysfunction of mitochondria and the apoptosis of cancer cells. However, it remains challenging to deliver appropriate amount of CO into tumor to ensure efficient tumor growth suppression with minimum side effects. Herein we developed a CO prodrug-loaded nanomedicine based on the self-assembly of camptothecin (CPT) polyprodrug amphiphiles. The polyprodrug nanoparticles readily dissociate upon exposure to endogenous H 2 O 2 in the tumor, resulting in rapid release of CPT and generation of high-energy intermediate dioxetanedione. The latter can transfer the energy to neighboring CO prodrugs to activate CO production by chemiexcitation, while CPT promotes the generation of H 2 O 2 in tumors, which in turn facilitates cascade CPT and CO release. As a result, the polyprodrug nanoparticles display remarkable tumor suppression in both subcutaneous and orthotopic breast tumor-bearing mice owing to the self-augmented CPT release and CO generation. In addition, no obvious systemic toxicity was observed in mice treated with the metal-free CO prodrug-loaded nanomedicine, suggesting the good biocompatibility of the polyprodrug nanoparticles. Background: While extensive studies have elucidated the relationships between exposure to air pollution and chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disorders and diabetes, the intricate effects on specific kidney diseases, notably primary glomerulonephritis (GN)-an immune-mediated kidney ailment-are less well understood. Considering the escalating incidence of GN and conspicuous lack of investigative focus on its association with air quality, investigation is dedicated to examining the long-term effects of air pollutants on renal function in individuals diagnosed with primary GN., Methods: This retrospective cohort analysis was conducted on 1394 primary GN patients who were diagnosed at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and Seoul National University Hospital. Utilizing time-varying Cox regression and linear mixed models (LMM), we examined the effect of yearly average air pollution levels on renal function deterioration (RFD) and change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). In this context, RFD is defined as sustained eGFR of less than 60 mL/min per 1.73 m 2 ., Results: During a mean observation period of 5.1 years, 350 participants developed RFD. Significantly, elevated interquartile range (IQR) levels of air pollutants-including PM 10 (particles ≤10 micrometers, HR 1.389, 95 % CI 1.2-1.606), PM 2.5 (particles ≤2.5 micrometers, HR 1.353, 95 % CI 1.162-1.575), CO (carbon monoxide, HR 1.264, 95 % CI 1.102-1.451), and NO 2 (nitrogen dioxide, HR 1.179, 95 % CI 1.021-1.361)-were significantly associated with an increased risk of RFD, after factoring in demographic and health variables. Background: Anemia is common in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), causing significant health issues and social burdens. Exposure to household air pollution from using biomass fuels for cooking and heating has been associated with anemia, but the exposure-response association has not been studied., Objectives: We evaluated the associations between personal exposure to air pollution and both hemoglobin levels and anemia prevalence among pregnant women in a multi-country randomized controlled trial., Methods: We studied 3,163 pregnant women aged 18-35 years with 9-20 weeks of gestation, recruited as part of the Household Air Pollution Intervention Network (HAPIN) randomized controlled trial in Guatemala, India, Peru, and Rwanda. We assessed 24-hour personal exposures to fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ), black carbon (BC), and carbon monoxide (CO), and measured hemoglobin levels at baseline (15 ± 3 weeks gestation). Linear and logistic regression models were used to examine the associations of measured pollutants with hemoglobin levels and anemia prevalence, adjusting for confounding., Results: Single-pollutant models showed associations of CO with higher hemoglobin levels and lower anemia prevalence. Bipollutant models involving CO and PM 2.5 also revealed that an interquartile range (IQR) increase in CO concentrations (2.26 ppm) was associated with higher hemoglobin levels [β = 0.04; 95 % confidence interval (CI): 0.01, 0.07], and a lower odds of anemia prevalence [odds ratios (OR) = 0.90; 95 % CI: 0.83, 0.98]. PM 2.5 was inversely related to hemoglobin and positively associated with anemia, but results were not statistically significant at the 0.05 alpha level. County-specific results showed that 3 of 4 countries showed a similar association between CO and hemoglobin. Fluorescence sensing and imaging techniques are being widely studied for detecting carbon monoxide (CO) in living organisms due to their speed, sensitivity, and ease of use to biological systems. Most fluorescent probes used for this purpose are based on heavy metal ions like Pd, with a few using elements like Ru, Rh, Ir, Os, Tb, and Eu. However, these metals can be expensive and toxic to cells. There is a need for more affordable and biologically safe fluorescent probes for CO detection. Drawing inspiration from the robust affinity exhibited by heme iron toward CO, in this work, a rhodamine derivative called RBF was developed for imaging CO in living cells by binding to Fe(III) and could be used for CO sensing. A Fe(III)-based fluorescent probe for CO imaging in living cells offers advantages of cost effectiveness, low toxicity, and ease of use. The fluorescence detection using the RBF-Fe system showed a direct correlation with increasing levels of CORM-3 (LOD = 146 nM) or the exposure time of CO gas, displaying reduced fluorescence. A CO test paper based on RBF-Fe was created for simple on-site CO detection, where fluorescence would diminish in response to CO exposure, allowing rapid (2 min) visual identification. Imaging of CO in living cells was successfully conducted using the probe system, showing a decrease in fluorescence intensity as CORM-3 concentrations increased, indicating its effectiveness in monitoring CO levels accurately within living cells.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is an innate signaling molecule that can regulate immune responses and interact with crucial elements of the circadian clock. Moreover, pharmacologically, CO has been substantiated for its therapeutic advantages in animal models of diverse pathological conditions. Given that an excessive level of CO can be toxic, it is imperative to quantify the necessary amount for therapeutic use accurately. However, estimating gaseous CO is notably challenging. Therefore, novel techniques are essential to quantify CO in therapeutic applications and overcome this obstacle precisely. The classical Myoglobin (Mb) assay technique has been extensively used to determine the amount of CO-release from CO-releasing molecules (CORMs) within therapeutic contexts. Nevertheless, specific challenges arise when applying the Mb assay to evaluate CORMs featuring innovative molecular architectures. Here, we report a fluorinated photo-CORM (CORM-FBS) for the photo-induced CO-release. We employed the 19 F NMR spectroscopy approach to monitor the release of CO as well as quantitative evaluation of CO release. The object of this study is a change in the hazardous parameters of the gas environment when materials are ignited in the premises. The subject is the features of the average bicoherence of the frequencies of the spectra of changes in the hazardous parameters of the gas environment when materials are ignited. The importance of such studies is based on the fact that the examined features can be used for the early detection of fires. The value of the average bicoherence is proposed to be determined for each frequency, taking into account the average value of the cosine argument of the complex bispectrum for a given frequency interval. It was established that the values of the average bicoherence of the spectrum of changes in the temperature of the gaseous medium in the interval of no ignition of the materials, averaged by frequency in the range of 0–2 Hz, lie in the range from ‒0.052 to ‒0.35. At the same time, the frequency-averaged values of mean bicoherence at the ignition interval of materials lie in the range of ‒0.128 to +0.155. Averaged in the frequency range of 0–2 Hz, the value of the mean bicoherence of the spectrum of changes in smoke density in the interval of absence of ignition of materials lies in the range from ‒0.018 to +0.568. In the presence of fires, this value is in the range from –0.244 to +0.23. At the same time, the average value of the average bicoherence of the spectrum of changes in the concentration of carbon monoxide of the gas medium for test materials, averaged in the range from 0 to 2 Hz, ranges from +0.016 to +0.109. In the case of ignition of materials, the average values range from +0.0007 to +0.053, except for ignition of wood (+0.117). In general, the revealed features of the average bicoherence of the frequency components of the spectra of changes in the hazardous parameters of the gas environment indicate the possibility of their use to identify fires and prevent fires. Air‐insulated switchgear plays an important role in distribution network and partial discharge (PD) is one of the common faults in its operation. The method of gas component analysis, which is to detect chemical gas products, is a novel one to discover PD. In order to study the feasibility of the method, the monitoring experiment of characteristic gases, comprising carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and ozone (O3), of metal protrusion PD is carried out. This paper conducts the comparative experiments on three main factors affecting PD: voltage, air humidity and degree of protrusion, as well as studies how they affect the formation of characteristic gases. According to the experimental result, higher applied voltage promotes the formation of characteristic gases in the same conditions. In addition, with the increase of humidity from 40% to 75%, the generation of gases is inhibited. Furthermore, when the needle–plate distance is 30 mm, the gas concentration has almost no change within 6 h, which is different from that of 10 mm. In conclusion, the difference in gases concentration reveals the influence of three main factors on the generation of characteristic gases and provides an analytical basis for PD detection by gas composition analysis. The object of the study is the selective dispersion of dangerous parameters of the gas environment during material fires. The practical importance of research consists in using the difference of sample dispersions of dangerous parameters of the gas environment on the intervals of absence and presence of ignition of materials for detection of ignition. The theoretical substantiation of the method of detecting fires in premises based on sample dispersions of current measurements of an arbitrary dangerous parameter of the gas environment, corresponding to the general populations of reliable absence and presence of fire, has been carried out. The method, at a given level of significance, determines the unbiased uniformly most powerful fire detection rule. This makes it possible to determine how much differences in sample variances are significant with a given level of significance and are caused by ignition or are random factors. Laboratory experiments were conducted to verify the proposed method. It was established that the influence of ignition on the value of the difference in the sample dispersion at the corresponding intervals of monitoring the carbon monoxide concentration, smoke density, and temperature of the gaseous environment of the laboratory chamber is different and depends on the type of ignition material. At the same time, the minimum difference of the sample dispersions is characteristic for observing the smoke density for all the studied materials. However, early detection of ignition of alcohol, paper, wood, and textiles when observing the smoke density is carried out when the threshold is exceeded by 9.01, 5.31, 2.13 and 2.55 times, respectively. It is shown that the method of early detection of fires, which is based on the detection of significant differences in sample dispersions of data from the relevant general populations. Reducing the use of fossil fuels is critical to human society. In recent years, electrocatalytic carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction has attracted widespread attention. A suitable CO2 reduction catalyst is essential to convert CO2 into more valuable chemical products with high selectivity and efficiency. In this paper, a highly selective ZnAlCe-Ternary metal hydroxides (ZnAlCe-THs) nanocomposite electrocatalyst material was designed and prepared, and its performance as an electrocatalyst for catalytic reduction of CO2 to carbon monoxide (CO) was explored. The layered structure of ZnAlCe-THs nanocomposites facilitates electron transfer as well as CO2 and proton transfer, providing a high specific surface area for the electroactive sites of the electrocatalytic reduction reaction. At the same time, the ZnAlCe-THs catalyst generates CO at an overpotential of − 0.5 V. At − 1.2 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (vs. RHE), the bias current density is about 10.46 mA cm−2 with high selectivity of 89.3% Faraday efficiency. Its excellent electrochemical properties make it a good catalyst for the selective reduction of CO2 to CO. In this paper, ZnAlCe-Ternary mental hydroxides (ZnAlCe-THs) with a layered hydrotalclike structure were prepared by hydrothermal and co-precipitation methods. It showed excellent catalytic performance in the electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide with a Faraday efficiency of 89.3% at − 1.2 V vs. RHE and a current density of 10.46 mA cm−2 for higher selectivity for CO. In order to increase the catalytic activity of the Pd(II)-complexes in the alcoxycarbonylation of 1-olefins, the presence in solution of a strong Brönsted acid together with a phosphine ligand is usually required. From an industrial point of view, such two additives, however, influenced the sustainability of the process mainly caused by the related corrosion of the reaction vessel and the toxicity of the phosphine ligand. In this paper, the methoxycarbonylation of 1-octene has been efficiently carried out by using the [Pd(TsO)2(PPh3)2]/FeCl3 catalyst system. The catalyst is very active also without addition of PPh3, reaching the TON of ca. 1300 (mol/mol) in 2 hours by using the Fe(III)/Pd(II) = 400/1 (mol/mol) system. Such value is higher than the values obtained by using the traditional strong Brönsted acid TsOH or other Lewis acid such as AlCl3, in the presence of PPh3. Carbon monoxide (CO) formation has been observed during composting of various fractions of organic waste. It was reported that this production can be biotic, associated with the activity of microorganisms. However, there are no sources considering the microbial communities producing CO production in compost. This preliminary research aimed to isolate and identify microorganisms potentially responsible for the CO production in compost collected from two areas of the biowaste pile: with low (118 ppm) and high CO concentration (785 ppm). Study proved that all isolates were bacterial strains with the majority of rod-shaped Gram-positive bacteria. Both places can be inhabited by the same bacterial strains, e.g. Bacillus licheniformis and Paenibacillus lactis. The most common were Bacillus (B. licheniformis, B. haynesii, B. paralicheniformis, and B. thermolactis). After incubation of isolates in sealed bioreactors for 4 days, the highest CO levels in the headspace were recorded for B. paralicheniformis (>1000 ppm), B. licheniformis (>800 ppm), and G. thermodenitrificans (∼600 ppm). High CO concentrations were accompanied by low O 2 (<6%) and high CO 2 levels (>8%). Carbon monoxide (CO) is a poisonous gas produced by incomplete combustion of carbon-based fuels that is linked to mortality and morbidity. Household air pollution from burning fuels on poorly ventilated stoves can lead to high concentrations of CO in homes. There are few datasets available on household concentrations of CO in urban areas of sub-Saharan African countries. CO was measured every minute over 24 h in a sample of homes in Nairobi, Kenya. Data on household characteristics were gathered by questionnaire. Metrics of exposure were summarised and analysis of temporal changes in concentration was performed. Continuous 24-h data were available from 138 homes. The mean (SD), median (IQR) and maximum 24-h CO concentration was 4.9 (6.4), 2.8 (1.0-6.3) and 44 ppm, respectively. 50% of homes had detectable CO concentrations for 847 min (14h07m) or longer during the 24-h period, and 9% of homes would have activated a CO-alarm operating to European specifications. An association between a metric of total CO exposure and self-reported exposure to vapours >15 h per week was identified, however this were not statistically significant after adjustment for the multiple comparisons performed. Mean concentrations were broadly similar in homes from a more affluent area and an informal settlement. A model of typical exposure suggests that cooking is likely to be responsible for approximately 60% of the CO exposure of Nairobi schoolchildren. Household CO concentrations are substantial in Nairobi, Kenya, despite most homes using gas or liquid fuels. Concentrations tend to be highest during the evening, probably associated with periods of cooking. Household air pollution from cooking is the main source of CO exposure of Nairobi schoolchildren. Microbial electrosynthesis (MES) is an electrically driven technology that can be used for converting CO/CO 2 into chemicals. The unique electronic and substrate properties of CO make it an important research target for MES. However, CO can poison the cathode and increase the overpotential of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), thus reducing the electron transfer rate via H 2 . This work evaluated the effect of an anti-CO HER catalyst on the performance of MES for CO/CO 2 conversion. ZnMo-metal-organic framework (MOF) materials with different calcination temperatures were synthesized. ZnMo-MOF-800 with Mo 2 C nanoparticles as active centers exhibited excellent resistance to CO toxicity. It also obtained the highest hydrogen evolution and enhanced electron transfer rate in CO atmosphere. MES with ZnMo-MOF-800 cathode and Clostridium ljungdahlii as biocatalyst obtained 0.31 g L -1  d -1 acetate yield, 0.1 g L -1  d -1 butyrate yield, and 0.09 g L -1  d -1 2,3-butanediol yield in CO/CO 2 , while Pt/C only get 0.076 g L -1  d -1 acetate yield, 0.05 g L -1  d -1 butyrate yield and 0.02 g L -1  d -1 2,3-butanediol yield. ZnMo-MOF-800 was conducive to biofilm formation, enabling it to better resist CO toxicity. Carbon monoxide (CO) as an endogenous gas signaling molecule possesses important physiological functions and is of great significance in the treatment of various diseases. Real-time tracking of CO in living organisms has become a research hotspot in recent years. This article presents a lysosomal targeted near-infrared ratio fluorescence probe (TBM-CO) for selective detection of CO based on the dicyanoisophorone skeleton and morpholine fragment. The probe TBM-CO with weak ICT effect can be transformed to precursor TBM-NH 2 with strong ICT effect by the traditional Tsuji-Trost reaction procession in the presence of Pd 2+ ions. The mechanism was proved by DFT calculation or the MS and HPLC results respectively. In the near-infrared region an obvious ratio fluorescence intensity change (F 686 / F 616 ) is observed in vitro spectral experiments. The concentration titration experiments indicate that there is a good liner relationship between the ratio fluorescence intensity and the concentration in the range of 0 to 50 μM (R 2  = 0.996) and the detection limit is calculated as 0.38 μM. The cell fluorescence imaging and co-localization experiments further demonstrate that TBM-CO is able to detect the exogenous and endogenous CO in lysosomal subcellular organelle. Finally, it was used to detect the changes of CO concentration in living mice successfully. The scientific paper conducted empirical studies related to the effectiveness of the use of dimethyl ether as an additive to diesel fuel and its impact on the efficiency of the mixture creation and combustion process. The measure of the above quality was the observation and parametric assessment of the then generated vibroacoustic processes, the relations of which were assessed using the peak and effective value of vibration accelerations, and also assessment of toxic exhaust gas components. The transformation of the main process into its vibroacoustic and emission representations allowed for the construction of mathematical relations between them, expressed in a specific engine operating space, and a vector of tribological parameters, expressing specific friction changes occurring in the critical kinematic pairs of the combustion and mixture formation area. The tests were carried out on a single-cylinder research engine with direct fuel injection, in stationary conditions with a time-invariant control vector. As part of the procedures, a constant and optimal value of thermodynamic parameters defining the thermal state of the engine was maintained, minimizing external forces and disturbances that could affect the active value of the measurement signal. The research results are empirical vibroacoustic and emission characteristics for various signal domains and their parameterization supplemented with a detailed analysis of the results, developed vibroacoustic and emission mathematical models depending on the operating parameters, type of fuel and combustible mixture formation variables, supplemented with an assessment of their degree of mapping to the dynamic source process. The dimethyl ether application resulted in a emission reduction by the coefficient: 24.3-57.8 (hydrocarbons), 1.03-1.24 (carbon monoxide), and an increase in nitrogen oxides in the range of 1.01-1.08. The use of dimethyl ether as a base fuel component has a positive effect on reducing the peak value of vibration accelerations in the range of 16-28%, and the root mean square in the range of 14-65%. This publication presents the results of the fundamental research on the interaction of laser radiation and lignocellulosic fibres with respect to the melting of the fibre main components cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. In the first part, hand sheets made of different lignocellulosic fibres were irradiated with laser radiation from a carbon monoxide laser. Fluence-dependent interaction regimes, the dynamics of flash pyrolysis and chemical changes due to irradiation are discussed. Using a high-speed camera, an intermediate liquid state could be observed as a result of the irradiation. This is decomposed into gaseous reaction products by a highly dynamic boiling process. In addition to the time-resolved investigations, extensive FTIR studies were carried out. The second part is intended to further investigate former work on melting of cellulose. The basic idea is to combine laser radiation and mechanical pressure by compressing the sample between two steel bolts and simultaneously irradiating the joint. The processed samples show some visual indications of intermediate melting, such as increased transparency or flow behaviour. Carbon monoxide (CO) is a toxic, hazardous gas that has a colorless and odorless nature. On the other hand, CO possesses some physiological roles as a signaling molecule that regulates neurotransmitters in addition to its hazardous effects. Because of the dual nature of CO, there is a need to develop a sensitive, selective, and rapid method for its detection. Herein, we designed and synthesized a turn-on fluorescence probe, 2-(2′-nitrophenyl)-4(3H)-quinazolinone (NPQ), for the detection of CO. NPQ provided a turn-on fluorescence response to CO and the fluorescence intensity at 500 nm was increased with increasing the concentration of CO. This fluorescence enhancement could be attributed to the conversion of the nitro group of NPQ to an amino group by the reducing ability of CO. The fluorescence assay for CO using NPQ as a reagent was confirmed to have a good linear relationship in the range of 1.0 to 50 µM with an excellent correlation coefficient (r) of 0.997 and good sensitivity down to a limit of detection at 0.73 µM (20 ppb) defined as mean blank+3SD. Power transformers, integral to electrical systems, necessitate substantial investment. Their operational longevity hinges critically on the quality of their insulation system. This study focuses on evaluating the condition of both oil and solid insulation within transformers, which is vital for preventing operational failures. The condition of oil insulation is influenced by a blend of chemical, electrical, and physical properties, while the aging of solid insulation is an irreversible process that ultimately dictates the end of a transformer's service life. Recent advancements, notably the guidelines from CIGRE TB 761, have provided a comprehensive framework for assessing transformer insulation. These guidelines employ a multi-parameter approach to derive a consolidated insulation index. This study applies the CIGRE TB 761 methodology to a population of 357 power transformers, facilitating a detailed comparative assessment of the oil and solid insulation. This paper discusses the methodology used and presents the results, highlighting the evaluation of both oil and solid insulation aspects. Furthermore, it investigates the relationships between various testing parameters and the overall insulation index in relation to the transformer's age. For oil insulation, key parameters include interfacial tension, color, breakdown voltage, acidity, and moisture content. Solid insulation assessment predominantly revolves around parameters such as methane, ethylene, ethane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, CO2/CO ratio, and DP value. This study also correlates the insulation condition in power transformers to the operational age, and thereby contributing to more effective monitoring and maintenance strategies. To understand the mechanism of the dehydrogenation of methanol to CO and H2 catalyzed by a ruthenium pincer complex, a density functional theory (DFT) study has been conducted on two different cycles which differ in the substances entering the cycle (methanol (cycle 1) versus methoxymethanol (cycle 2)). Our calculated results show that both cycles consist of three stages: dehydrogenation of alcohol to aldehyde (stage I); hydrogen formation (stage II); and decarbonylation with the regeneration of the catalyst (stage III). The energy barriers of the rate-determining steps for cycles 1 and 2 are 49.6 and 28.5 kcal mol-1, respectively. Thus cycle 2 is more energetically feasible. For stage III of cycle 2, our results did not support the mechanism proposed in the experiment (CO release occurs prior to decarbonylation). Instead, we suggested and examined an alternative pathway, that is, decarbonylation occurs prior to CO release. Clostridium autoethanogenum can to convert waste gases (CO 2 , CO, H 2 ) and xylose from hydrolyzed biomass into acetate, lactate, formate, ethanol and 2,3-butanediol, being a candidate for the transformation of waste streams of lignocellulosic biorefineries. Electro-fermentation (EF) modify the pattern of traditional fermentations resulting in improved product yields as has been shown when using Clostridium strains. The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of pH on microbial growth and product distribution during fermentation and EF of xylose by C. autoethanogenum DSM10061. Fermentation and EF were carried out in a H-type reactor at three controlled pH: 5.0, 5.5 and 5.8, and at a fixed potential of -600 mV (versus Ag/AgCl) in the EF. The experiments showed that maximum biomass concentration increased as the pH increased in fermentation and EF. In accordance with maximum biomass reached, the highest substrate conversion was observed at pH 5.8 for both systems, with 76.80 % in fermentation and 96.18 % in EF. Moreover, the highest concentrations of acetic acid (1.41 ± 0.07 g L -1 ) and ethanol (1.45 ± 0.15 g L -1 ) were obtained at the end of cultures in the EF at pH 5.8. The production of lactic and formic acid decreased by the application of the external potential regardless of the pH value, reaching the lowest productivity at pH 5.8. In contrast, the specific productivity of acetic acid and ethanol was lower in both fermentation and EF at the lowest pH. Furthermore, the presence of 0.06 g L -1 of 2,3-butanediol was only detected in EF at pH 5.8. As a stable donor for releasing controlled amounts of CO, carbon monoxide releasing molecule-2 (CORM-2) is a new type of therapeutic drug that contributes to exploring the pathophysiological effects of CO. The accurate detection of CORM-2 in biological systems is of great significance for controlling its dosage as a therapeutic drug and elucidating the reaction mechanisms of CO, but currently there is a lack of metal-free near-infrared fluorescent probes. Herein, a new metal-free near-infrared fluorescent probe based on nitrofuran which could selectively identify CORM-2 was designed and it has been successfully applied in living cells, zebrafish and mice. After reacting with CORM-2, both the color and fluorescence signal of the solution are restored, which is ascribed to the reduction of the nitro group. The spectroscopic probe DXPN shows high sensitivity to CORM-2 with a low detection limit of 87 nM and near-infrared fluorescence emission of 712 nm. Notably, this is the first time that paper chips are being used as a carrier to detect CORM-2 through fluorescence signals instead of the traditional liquid phase detection mode of fluorescent probes. Current evidence suggests that airborne pollutants have a detrimental effect on fetal growth through the emergence of small for gestational age (SGA) or term low birth weight (TLBW). The study's objective was to critically evaluate the available literature on the association between environmental pollution and the incidence of SGA or TLBW occurrence. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across Pubmed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and Google Scholar using predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The methodology adhered to the PRISMA guidelines. The systematic review protocol was registered in PROSPERO with ID number: CRD42022329624. As a result, 69 selected papers described the influence of environmental pollutants on SGA and TLBW occurrence with an Odds Ratios (ORs) of 1.138 for particulate matter ≤ 10 μm (PM10), 1.338 for particulate matter ≤ 2.5 μm (PM2.5), 1.173 for ozone (O3), 1.287 for sulfur dioxide (SO2), and 1.226 for carbon monoxide (CO). All eight studies analyzed validated that exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is a risk factor for SGA or TLBW. Pregnant women in the high-risk group of SGA occurrence, i.e., those living in urban areas or close to sources of pollution, are at an increased risk of complications. Understanding the exact exposure time of pregnant women could help improve prenatal care and timely intervention for fetuses with SGA. Nevertheless, the pervasive air pollution underscored in our findings suggests a pressing need for adaptive measures in everyday life to mitigate worldwide environmental pollution. In this paper, a flexible CO gas sensor based on polyimide, interdigital electrodes, and reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/cuprous chloride (CuCl) composite film is designed and manufactured for reliable room temperature detection of high-concentration CO gas. The structure size of RGO/CuCl gas-sensitive film is 5 × 5 mm. The RGO with a 62.65% C-C bond is prepared by the thermal reduction method. The test results show that the sensor has a high response in the range of 400–2000 ppm CO gas concentration, and the maximum response is 1.56. The linear correlation coefficient of the sensor is 0.981, which indicates that the sensor has good output response characteristics. The response time of the sensor for 400 ppm CO gas is 332 s, which indicates that the sensor has a fast response rate. Furthermore, compared with other gases, the sensor shows higher gas selectivity for CO gas. This sensor has the characteristics of small size and easy attachment; therefore, it can be installed on the shoulder or helmet of tourists' safety suits, providing personalized real-time warning prompts for tourists' physical health status. In a global society that is increasingly interrelated and focused on mobility, carbon monoxide emissions derived from internal combustion vehicles remain the most important factor that must be addressed to improve environmental quality. Certainly, air pollution generated by internal combustion engines threatens human health and the well-being of the planet. In this regard, this paper aims to address the urgent need to understand and face the CO emissions produced by internal combustion vehicles; therefore, this work proposes a mathematical model based on Auto-Regressive Exogenous that predicts the CO percentages produced by an internal combustion engine during its start-up. The main goal is to establish a strategy for diagnosing excessive CO emissions caused by changes in the engine temperature. The proposed CO emissions modeling is evaluated under a real dataset obtained from experiments, and the obtained results make the proposed method suitable for being implemented as a novel diagnosis tool in automotive maintenance programs.
